My favourite gelato spot in Brisbane! I love how chunky a lot of the flavours are because of the mix ins. My favourite go to flavour is the bounty (coconut and chocolate). Be sure to use the app to save up points you can redeem for rewards!

Great selection of ice cream. Decided to try the non-conventional flavours and got the weekly ice cream (mine was white chocolate chip cereal and milk ice cream) and it was bloody good with chunks of caramel bites. A little on the pricey end just a single scoop but I definitely think it’s worth it, coming from someone who doesn’t eat desserts in general
Tumbling out of the restaurant next door we find ourselves staring at Gelato heaven. Phuong Tran and I are so topped up it would be unwise to eat anything. We decide to simply admire this Gelateria and food envy their sweet-tooth patrons.
As I have a final look at the Gelato, I hear Espresso&Matcha whisper “Coffee”! I say to PT that we can share a Coffee Waffle Cone? Long story short, we compromise on a Pistachio Praline Waffle Cone. This Pistachio Gelato is chock-full of fresh Pistachios. Bellissimo!
It can be a bit pricey, but it's pretty damn good. Havent tried every flavour yet but i'll get there. Current favourite would have to be the pandan and coconut one.

A dessert institution to which I’m fully committed - throw away the key.
The biggest problem here is too many game changing flavours & social etiquette (& the laws of physics) dictate I can’t eat them all. Today it was an ol’ fav. Don’t get me wrong: I appreciate the weekly specials like Anzac, Hot Cross Buns & Tyrion, I really do. I’ll browse & sample them alllll day long. But the traditionalist in me can’t resist the indulgent, silky Dulce de Leche - basically all the others can just go home. Rich sweetness reignited the fading sugar rush of recent easter egg overconsumption & cooled down an unseasonably tropical day. Soo delishe.
Prepare to run the gauntlet & hope your visit here isn’t crazy busy.
This gelato place has diverse ranges of gelato with changing daily specials that will not bore you. I always get confused when choosing the flavours. Really dig the pistacchio and apple pie flavour. The service is pretty fast and the prices are pretty good. Overall, it’s a must-stop place wherever I’m near Southbank!
The best ice cream place ever. Any time I am around the area, I always stop by for a scoop of ice cream. There are so many amazing flavours and there are tonnes of vegan options available. Too scared to buy a tub of ice cream incase I eat the whole thing.
Definitely recommend this place again and again to all my friends and family and their reviews are always great too!
P.s. my favourite flavours (vegan) are the chocolate sorbet and pandan-coconut.
Special flavours change weekly but their classics are to die for. Their mint flavour is very different and recommended to try. They use real mint leaves and it doesn't taste like fake mint. Amazing creations
Such interesting and amazing flavours to choose from. Could literally spend hours here just looking lol. We got strawberry, mango, apple pie and salted caramel ice cream.
Can one really be picky about gelato? This place can get quite packed after dinner, so be strategic about where you stand for example... really nice gelato in a really nice spot.
This has become my cheat meal and a place I make sure to stop at whenever I’m close. The prices are good in comparison to other dessert places in the area as well. Staff are also on the ball
A friend and I waltzed straight up to the bar about 8 pm on this balmy Sunday evening and tasted flavours until we thought: 'Right! That's probably crossed the line and then done a little dance' then a bunch of people started lining up, seems we beat the queue!
I had the Nicky's Glasses (salted caramel and coffee) and the Cinnie Bunstein ('doughnut gelato with cinnamon buns, peanut praline, brown sugar caramel and baked cheesecake')
My choices were probably a bit unbalanced - the first was overpowered by the second.

Gelato Messina is hands down our favourite gelato in Brisbane. We're so stoked we don't have to drive down to Coolangatta anymore to sample their delicious flavours! We almost always order from their specials board (last week it was Ice Vovo and Golden Gaytime) but we also love their coconut, lychee and hazelnut. The South Brisbane outlet is a dimly lit industrial style space with funky bean bags for patrons to relax on - and with the music pumping people might mistake it for a bar! The only thing we get frustrated about is ordering. There's going to have to come a time where they change the system at South Brisbane. Most people form an orderly line but a lot of people push in and it's all a bit hectic. But look, the semi-chaos is definitely worth it as their gelato is freaking amazing. Thanks Messina!
Really good icecream, the choice of flavors is amazing. the place is always full. it’s open until late. the place is suitable for children.
One of the best gelato in town. They are quite generous by giving a large scoop of ice cream. I had two flavours (I forgot the name of the first one whereas the other is gianduia). Gianduia is a good choice if you like the combination of chocolate and nutty flavour. Hazelnut flavour is strong. There is also enough space for people sitting and enjoying their ice cream. Great place!
It was so good. We had pistachio, salted coconut with mango, and green tea. The salted coconut one is really recommended :) However, they kind of have limited space for sitting. Anyhow, the location is good, staffs are friendly, and it's so delicious
Went here for a cheeky ice cream on a warm weekday. My partner and I shared two scoops on a waffle cone - Crazy Yuzu (one of the specials for the day) and the Pear and Rhubarb.
The ice cream was beautifully creamy and delicious. The Crazy Yuzu was a highlight with chucks of mandarin cake and flavours of yuzu and matcha - just as advertised.
The ambience was casual - limited seating inside and outside, with high ceilings and popular music playing. Service was friendly and efficient.

love the variety of flavours and the gluten free options! the good thing is that they let you try/taste before you buy. usually i go for at least 2 or 3 scoops since it’s more for value but i find myself not being able to actually eat all of it so 2 scoops is honestly the most i ever need.
i love the choc mint flavour! but that might just be because i’m a choc mint lover. their choc pieces are on the bigger side though.
also tried their vanilla nougat and the nougat pieces were imo also a bit on the bigger side. i guess it does give that authentic feel but i don’t enjoy crunching through whole bits while my ice cream is melting away :”(
their chocolate flavours are SoooOooO rich. definitely wouldn’t recommend grabbing more than 1 scoop of chocolate in one go. best to break it up with less rich, refreshing flavours like grapefruit sorbet (fave!!)

I came here for a few times and always got the specials. My favourite was the baked cheesecake. The ice cream comes in cone and cup. I prefer to eat in the cup so that it is not messy when the ice cream melts. The ice cream is very worth it, not too expensive for the size.
The shop itself does not provide many chairs and seating area. If you are coming here with a bunch of your friends, you might have to chat and eat ice cream while standing in front of the shop.
Simple and nice interior. Great service too. Will come back here again to enjoy more of the daily special ice cream.
Holy Gelato I think this is the best ive had! It actually reminds me of the gelato in Rome, both taste and texture. I previously have been a Cremona addictee, but now Messina has my heart. The khaleesi, the pecan do it and both the passionfruit and mango sorbet delightful and the strawberry and cream was my fave. The take home pack we ordered via deliveroo was value for money sooo good that we got 6 serves out of it! In the cups you can get for free in delivery. Happy days
Great ice cream, with a nice atmosphere to hang out with company. There were just so many to choose from. I ordered the pear and rhubarb and it was really yummy. However, the ice cream is a tad too sweet and i would love for it to be less sweet.
I always have this gelato whenever I'm in Sydney/Melbourne. Finally it has arrived in Brisbane! My go-to flavour is always coffee, but this time I thought I'll try something different. 'Pistachio praline' caught my eye. It was very creamy, but a tad too sweet for my liking. The cone was fresh and crispy. I thought there would be bits of pistachio, since the word 'praline' is in the name. That would make it more exciting. $4.80/scoop is reasonable. Will be coming back!
Tonight we were wondering around south Brisbane and facing the big line in front of this place we couldn't just keep walking without checking what was the fuzz about.
After checking the available flavours we opted for the pannacota and the miso n malt.
The pannacota was just amazing, creamy, not too sweet and the fig and caramel present gave it a nice texture and flavour would rate it a 5 out of 5. The miso n malt on the other hand was extremely sweet and the bits of fudge in the ice cream have it a nice texture but also made it even sweeter, there was a nice malt flavour present and the ice cream was probably the creamiest one I have tried in Brisbane but the sweetness made it be a let down. This one I would rate a 3.5 out of 5.
Overall they have really good ice cream and definitely deserve the line of people that was waiting to order.
Do you know how hard it is to find an interesting sorbet option that isn't fruit when you're lactose intolerant? Incredibly. Not that I don't enjoy fruit sorbets, but every now and again I want something else. That something else is salted coconut and mango salsa or their mind boggingly good pandan and coconut ice sorbet. Imagine my surprise when there's an entire cabinet of the goods! I like that they generously pack down your choice into cup or cone. I dislike their random queuing but what else can you expect where everyone wants to oggle over the myriad of choices?
My cousin's hubby told me that there was a rather newly opened gelato place with a long queque. So out of curiosity, we drove there at night around 9 pm and I could see there were still some queque till out the shop. So while we in line there a staff giving us the menu and they definitely had different flavours from other gelato places. I picked a strawberry sorbet and gianduja chocolate meanwhile my cousin chose poached fig in marsala and her husband chose the limited edition flavour which I forgot the names.
Honestly for me I did not really like it cause even it was soft in texture, the gelato itself was too sweet and also I couldn't really find the flavour that I really liked such as almond cherry or amaretti. Well, if you are a fan of sweet you might like it better than me.
Absolutely wonderful ice-cream. My favourite flavours were mango and caramel yogurt, but the passionfruit was amazing too. I was also really happy that I got to taste the flavours before I bought them.
We are absolutely delighted that Gelato has opened a store in Brisbane. The range of flavours is extensive so it was very hard to choose. The staff are quick to offer you samples (we liked all the flavours that we tried) and they are very generous with the serving sizes when you finally make your selection. This is a great option for an after dinner treat!

A first for Brisbane and people were raving about Messina coming to Brisvegas. The ambience is cool and relaxed and a great cosy place to enjoy your favorite ice cream with friends and family. There are lots of choices and the flavours are quite out there. The staff member we had waa vwry helpful and made us try many flavours to help us pick what to get.
They have great combinations, however some are acquired taste. Not all flavours are for everyone and some are a bit subtle on the flavour.
We had five scoops. The pistachio praline, coconut lyche and straberries cream were my favorites. The poached fig was okay. The salted caramel flavours were good too.
Great place to visit, and would love to try their cakes as well. Given the hype though, not necessarily the best gelato in town.
Great icecream, vibes and affordability. First time I came I shared a double scoop of the Wagon Wheel and Baked Cheesecake flavours with my partner. We then decided to go back the following night! I then ordered a salted coconut and mango salsa sorbet which was delish! Highly recommend this place 😊
Beautiful and sugary sooo sugary set in a hipster 70s decor when we were exhorted to have a spoonful of sugar for ourselves and one for the farmer. Now it's 2017 and the sugar is so evil- Messina raise the sugar vectors to a fine and exquisite art form. Bean bags for the fatties in which they sprawl
Since Gelato Messina opened their Brisbane branch, I've always wanted to give it a try and today I've finally got the chance to😝 after sample a few of the ice creams, I've decided to get Pistachio Praline and Poached Figs in Marsala and as I eat the Pistachio Praline, I can get tastes of actual pistachio bits and poached figs is definitely a recommend as it is so refreshing. After we finished, while we were resting our tummies, they give us a cup worth of 2 scoops of Nutella/ferro rocher ice cream for free and the ice cream doesn't taste sickly sweet and it is really smooth. I will definitely be back Gelato Messina❤
The range of flavours was exciting, though I think the specials board seemed to be erring on the side of safe rather than crazy innovative (e.g. 'milkshake') & I would have like to see some classic but unusual flavours like flior di latte, liquorice, green tea & black sesame. I chose panacotta with fig jam & amaretto & nougat. The former was my favourite, the latter a little sweet to my tastes. The ice cream is good but not the greatest I've ever had & the cone was just an ordinary cone. Service & seating fine when relatively quiet on a weekday. I will return to sample more.
A really nice place to go with friends, good environment, delicate ice creams, many flavours to choose, service is fine. Overall, it's a good ice cream shop. But it will be better for me if Gelato Messina can also provide some topics or sides!
If you are after a rich, bitter, not-so-sweet kind of chocolate gelato, then you have to try their Chocolate fondant! It is soo rich and the texture is incredible ! Otherwise , they have up to 40+ options of gelato & sorbet , including those on special menu ! I also recommend the pandan coconut, the flavour is AMAZING, Definitely worth coming back🤤
Been twice now! Went a week after it opened with lines out the door. Staff weren't very helpful and information about gelatos very wanting 2.5/5.
Yesterday arvo @newmoonwitch77 wanted to go there. Being on a fodmap diet at present I chose 1 scoop of Raspberry sorbet, newmoon had the Tiramisu and the salted caramel coffee.
First of all staff were more knowledgeable this time round. My sorbet was way too sweet! New moon said she has had better at Gelato Blue and Cow & The Moon in Newtown in Sydney.
I think it depends on which flavours you chose how flavoursome they are, but boy try making a decision with all the different flavours!!
very popular spot. Good varieties of choice on the flavor. Does not taste like the traditional ice-cream. It is more dense and i have been told that is because there is no water added in it. Salted caramel coffee flavor is a charm. Banana froster is a must for banana and cinnamon lover

The Meatballs Family visited Gelato Messina following a lovely meal at Julius. Despite all the hype, our expectations weren't overly high as we sampled their gelato at the pop-up shop next to GOMA earlier in the year and found it to be overpriced and above average at best.
We ordered three cones, including Tiramisu , Chocolate Fondant and Vanilla. $4.80 for a single scoop and $4 for the kids was a very fair price.
The Chocolate Fondant was a bit too sweet and I didn't love the hint of cinnamon, but Mini Meatball was quite happy with it. The Tiramisu and Vanilla were both very good. The Chocolate Fondant rated a 3.5 and the others a 4.
Not my favorite gelato in Brisbane (La Macelleria is the overall best and the Dark Chocolate at Gelato Milani is perfect) but better than our first experience and we'll be back.
Having waited months upon months for the opening of Gelato Messina, we finally caught wind that it opened at the end of March along Melbourne Street in Southbank. Without further delay, Queen V and I went for an afternoon snack before going to the opening of Eat Street. Arriving at around 2pm, there was a small crowd of people outside the store.
The rolling dessert colossus that is Gelato Messina has finally landed in Brisbane. Prior to this, Queenslanders had to make the trip all the way out to Coolangatta for the popular gelati, or wait until their next interstate trip. Now, it is much more conveniently located amidst the residential towers of South Brisbane, a short walk from either Southbank or West End.
