Review The Alliance Hotel - Brisbane

We randomly stopped by here for lunch while driving around. The venue is beautiful and looks full of history. The food was really nice and the lady who served us on the day was super friendly. I found the menu not very large and a little expensive however had some really nice choices. We loved the place and glad we stopped by.

We really enjoyed our return visit to the Alliance Hotel. From the easy booking method to the paying of the bill at the end, was all very well done. The staff were professional and friendly. The menu had something for everyone and the food was brought out in good time and was delicious! We'll be back again!

We had a great meal and tried some of the daily specials which were fresh and tasty. The service was excellent and the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. A good choice for a delicious meal with a friendly atmosphere.

Rarely do I walk into a place and it feels home. I felt this on both occasions and felt like I was greeted by friends and so warmly welcomed. Yes the Food was Absolutely amazing & delicious but for me it was about far more than that it was the level of comfort I felt a Priceless memory .

Beautiful meal. Great Service. Thank you, everyone. It isn't easy for Hospitality Venues at the moment. (Covid times). Your staff were able to navigate the Covid rules and show patience and hospitality as well as deliver great dinner service. The food is outstanding. ( We're 'out of towners', from Melbourne). Thank you. Amos Roach & Yvette Scholtmeyer. Herding Cats Management & Events

The Alliance Hotel was excellent. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The food was really good. I had the Barra Curry, Thai style, followed by the Chocolate and Caramel mille-feuille. So nice, the Barra crispy skin, the balance of the spices, yum. The mille-feuille was one the best balanced desserts I've had for some time, delicious in flavour and texture. Congratulations! I'll be back.

Had the beef cheeks and pork belly. Totally delicious. The service was exceptional. Prices reasonable. Will go back again for sure

Had a big group and luckily got a private area to ourselves. Was a fantastic dinner and the food was really great.

Busy place - but the food is heart and the atmosphere is good. Decent pub! So we enjoyed it. If you’re after something simple and easy this is it.

Been to this place couple times on few business trips in Brisbane. My colleague recommended this place as it's nearby our Brisbane office. The food was outstanding and consistent. Ordered 1kg mussels with white wine and cream, sirloin steak with blue cheese souffle and pork belly. The mussel was really fresh and cream was tasty, steak was soft and melt in your mouth kind of quality, and pork belly was cook well. Very happy with our dinner and will definitely come back.

Don't order Spanish Anchovies from the bar menu. For $14 you get some cat food tin of anchovies on a plate with toast and butter. They don't even take it out of the tin. I sent it back untouched. They did not offer a replacement. I will never come back here.

Excellent food great service! Table service in the restaurant makes this place a rare niceity. Food options are all the way from fine dining to simply a good pub burger. Everything we've ever ordered is tasty.

Love this place. Dined here a couple of times. A gastro pub with loads of charm. Although not a perfect pub, they make up for with their well curated menu.

Pretty good service and the food is very nice. I had a rib fillet with mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the caramelized shallots were a nice accompaniment to the steak.

I was staying nearby and stopped in for dinner as the location was convenient – it was so good I went back three times that week. I tried a range of dishes and in all of them, the fresh produce was what stood out – their menu featured the best Tasmanian meats and fish, incredible salads, and perfectly cooked chips. And everything was served with a smile. Top stuff.

There is no doubt that this establishment is worthy of a higher rating however I must be harsh due to a lack of attention to food detail.
The staff were professional and attentive with a bright friendly greeting and quick to take drinks order and provide menu.
On recommendation from the waitress I chose the Roast Suckling Pig. Unfortunately, I had to send it back to the chef as the meat was cold in the middle. The waitress was quick to convey apologies and a new dish was prepared.
Could not fault. Absolutely magnificent dish. I just wish I could have had it right first up!
The wine list was very good offering a broad selection at very affordable prices.
I'll be back for an opportunity to give my rating a bump up.

Always outstanding due to the variety on offer and this is their real success. Probably best pub food in QLD. Service always superb and good range of wines to match

We've been coming to The Alliance for about four years and you couldn't ask for a better local. The bar food is superb, especially the parmy and the beef burger and chips. Lots of different beers on tap, with a rotating tap to shake it up and a good wine list for non-beer drinkers. The restaurant is a fantastic setting for a more formal dinner setting, but still relaxed and has a menu that fits the bill. The staff are always super friendly and Nick is a top guy and publican! Sipping cocktails in the Chalet Bar is a perfect way to end an evening. Gold stars all round.

I went here last night and loved it. The meals were fresh, generous and delicious! I love the extensive beer list. The service was faultless too. I'll definitely be back.

Absolutely fantastic Wagyu BBQ Brisket.
Best I have ever eaten! Shame I don't live in Brisbane otherwise the Alliance Hotel would be my local!
Staff were very friendly and service was fast.
Overall the score of 5* gives it justice!

Just had a 40th b'day upstairs in their Liechhardt Room. The entire experience from booking through to finish was first class. Their functions team are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and the team on the night were efficient and responsive to our every request. It is a terrific room that is flexible for most events and whilst we had 45 people it didn't seem too big at all. A particularly big cheer goes to the food. Often at stand up events such as this the usual spring rolls and party pies come round but at the Alliance there are terrific tasty options, easy to work out the right numbers required so no waste, and everyone had enough to eat. The Alliance knows what they do, and they do it brilliantly. The restaurant downstairs is also awesome.

Venue is lovely and staff are wonderful. Was very excited about my rib fillet especially for $40 but came out practically well done when I requested medium rare... And red wine jus was a bit runny. But still a nice venue and may go back for another chance... it may have just been my unlucky night because my two girlfriends had meals they loved.

The Chalet Bar feels like you're taking a step back in time, the architecture and decor is simply stunning.

This would have to be one of Brisbane's best kept secrets!! The bartender's know their art and take pride in making superb cocktails.
Gastro pub for lunch and dinner. Casual dining in the front bar and functions venue on the weekends. The Alliance Hotel is truly a local gem in Brisbane's inner-city suburb Spring Hill.
The picture is of the Crispy Zucchini Flowers with tomato escabeche and buffalo milk.

What a great spot, it's not a destination, it's an institution. The team have done an outstanding job in such a short time... It's a must !!

You must try this place.

Went here for dinner last week and have to admit even though it was slightly pricey it was worth ever cent!!

The food is AMAZING!

The only thing I can mark this place down for is the staff need to learn to smile and it would be a 10/10

A great gastro pub that maintains food standards on the numerous times I have dined here, steaks are especially good.
Service is also very prompt and helpful.

brought some friends along and the food was ok - however the suckling pig was dry. service on the night was also mediocre - we had to ask repeatedly to get our water refilled. it's disappointing because last time we went the food and the service was stellar.

Went to the Alliance a few months ago and it was great. The renovation was top notch and is a definate if you are in the area. Food and drink list was great and our meals were fantastic. Only downside being they are not open on a Sunday. Will be back.

Great work! Really great and fantastic service! tt

This place was a revelation as it looks like nothing from the outside. But inside, it's a great little gastro pub. The food was of excellent quality. My lamb shoulder was tremendous and all the accompanying dishes and desserts were great. The only disappointment of the night was hubby's suckling pig, which was basically all fat and no meat. But despite that, we would definitely go back
Absolutely Gr8
Overpriced

Fantastic!. Had my 21st party at the Alliance on the weekend and I couldn't fault it one bit. Great venue, amazing food, cheap drinks and the staff were lovely! I would recommend the Alliance to anyone! So to the everyone at the Alliance, thank you so much!!

FANtastic - No Faults!!. We dined for a business meeting/lunch on Wednesday 16th April 2014. Arrived early and the greeting was sincere and friendly. Selected a table and the water arrived promptly as I waited for my guests. I was first one in and it wasn’t long before the place was filling up with two`s and three`s and a couple of big (10+ pax) groups. All handled with easy by the 3 (yes three) wait staff. A fine difference from other so called "pub style venues" who throw one wait staff on to the floor to handle all of the menu service work!!. My guests arrived (we were a three pax) and we were then given menus and menu recommendations from the waitress. The owner greeted us and also made his recommendations as well. Wine list was solid and boutique beers on tap as well. The ordered drinks arrived promptly and with the food orders taken it was down to business. Food arrives - minimum of fuss in good time - in between a very good wait service but not intrusive. Now the go was the steak menu – judging by the amount of customers ordering them – menu read well. Looks like steaks are the specialty. We ordered 2 x Veal Cutlets (upon recommendations) and 1 x Salmon for mains. The Veal Cutlets were just FANtastic - nice and thick, cooked to perfection with a light crumb and backed up with a great coleslaw which complimented and well roasted chat potatoes with garlic and thyme. The salmon looked good - was perfectly cooked and my guest suggested it was the best he had had for a long while. Sides of chips (thin and very nice) and beans/asparagus with toasted almonds and garlic – great!. I had the desert - Pistachio cake with lemon curd, strawberries and ice-cream - this was just divine - would go back just for that!!. Anyway - overall the service was great – selected menu items were FANtastic and we paid what you would expect from a more up market pub restaurant/bistro come dining hall experience. Big test is would I go back?? - And that’s a definite YES!!. Well done guys - a nice little gem in the dreary end of St Pauls Tce/Boundary St - Spring Hill - even though it’s taken me a year to find you.

Excellent. Saturday night was great. The food and the service were both excellent

We ate with a kids water polo team. The venue was fresh and clean and interesting. The staff were super attentive, efficient, polite. The meals were served promptly and high quality for pub food. The choice and price for the kids meals was attractive. Would certainly eat there again! Well done staff.

Really enjoyed the beer food wine and service at this hotel. Menu prices for mains were more like $32 and above rather than $15 to $25 as indicated on urban spoon. I will be coming back as we enjoyed our meal.

Can't believe some people. As i am frequent dinner at the Alliance Hotel I feel abliged to comment on the lady who had a promblem with their meal. I was sitting at the table closest to the kitchen on the night in question. The chef who can cook and is ruggedly good looking explained to the woman in question that asian food typically contains nuts like peanuts and nut oil was not rude or condescending in any shape or form, if I suffered from a severe nut allergy I would ask whats in the dish before eating it (wouldn't anybody). Pestos can use any type of nuts including peanuts, walnuts etc and are typically used for different flavor profiles.
After the couple left the rest of the table stayed ate there main meals, order desserts before leaving. I will be back again and again as the food is awesome and the staff extremely friendly.

before leaving.

Caution...We will not go back!. My daughter has a serious allergy to peanuts but ordered the spring roll for entrée as it mentioned a Pesto dressing. Little did she know that the Chef had substituted pine nuts and used peanuts - possibly because they are cheaper?

Anyway she ended up in St Andrews Hospital for the rest of the night!

Before we paid the bill and raced out to go to the hospital my wife politely mentioned this to the Chef who arrogantly dismissed her as "silly for ordering an Asian dish" and turned away!!

We won't be going back and will in fact 'spread the word'!

I can definitely see why Alliance Hotel won best restaurant in the QHA 2013 awards. The staff went above and beyond and really made me feel at home, and the food is to die for (they even have a condiment table of sauces for your steak). Will definitely be back before I return back to Melbourne.

Not a good one. I dined there with a friend,
We ordered, the staff so far were polite.
When I commented on the blue cheese souffle i was verbaly attacked by the female wait person.
Apparently it is a great seller and I was the only one to complain, ( I heard this story several times as I tried to explain that it was not that good, not even a souffle!! )
well my heart sank my night was ruined , I did not eat and my friend was very upset.
I went to pay and mentioned the illfated souffle again and yet another lecture about ( I was basically wrong ) ( not exact words but close ).
I paid and left in a very upset mood.
So if you want to get bullied by a certain staff member mention the souffle.
All the other staff were fantastic.

Quality food - higher than you'd expect for a little bar which has such a great vibe. The restaurant is slightly segregated from the main bar so you can still enjoy a quiet meal before deciding to kick on. Skip the bar food and sit down for a top quality steak.
Only criticism is the past few times we have tried to eat there, they have closed the restaurant to private functions - would benefit from a function room and remaining open to the public also.
Phill
Fantastic modern hotel style food. This aint just pub grub, it's a great flavour treat.

Fantastic and charming local pub! Great atmosphere, excellent food and a great selection of beer and wine. The bistro is cosy and the front bar offers a old school feel. Service is always great.

Stupendous. The food here is fantastic, I couldn't fault it.

Whilst living at Oxygen apartments for a month I ate at this restaurant on several occasions and my parents became locals to the point where the staff became well acquainted and made eating dinner there a great occasion.

Worth the money on each dish, whenever I ate there, I made it a three course meal with drinks and still came home filled and not at all disappointed with the taste and price.

The service was great and the staff are extremely friendly, professional and make you feel welcome. I would most definitely recommend this place.

One of a kind in Brisbane. Had a great night when I visited.
Food excellent, warm service and a generous host.
Will definately be back.
PS. Afterwards had a few drinks in the old style front bar which topped of a super night.

Love this place. It reminds me of the gastropubs in England. Elegant 19th century mahogany bars and furniture, high ceilings, white walls, exposed brick. Very Spring Hill. Great restaurant menu, good wine lists and if you don’t feel like splashing out, the bar menu is fabulous. Just what inner-city Brisbane needs.

This pub has a lot of potential and has improved every time I've been there. The restaurant is great value and the menu offers a great range of upmarket and well priced meals that you would expect in a top Sydney or Melbourne pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I would not hesitate to take somebody there for lunch or dinner.

Great Rib Great service. Great to go to a real pub where the owner is there and the service is good old Briso friendly.
The beer was cold and replaced once empty by a friendly bar tender. The rib eye on the bone was second to none and the wine list matched it well.
If your looking for a countery for $5 this is not the place. But if you want some quality food and a safe and comfortable local environment this pub has it.
Highly recommend it and support it because it's family owned.

Better pubs around. Had high expectations after reading a glowing review by a local restaurant critic, sadly they weren't met. Very average food for the price, nothing at all worth mentioning. Also we were sat in a hot corner that was not cooled by either ac vents despite the restaurant being half empty. Wont go back.

All our meals were delicious! fantastic steaks. service was so friendly and professional. such a great addition to spring hill.

Excellent Service Excellent Meals. We walked into the Alliance without a reservation and although they were fully booked, the maitre d' made a table available to us. Most places would have turned us away with a baby in pram and 3yo. Meal suggestions were made and the chef even came out to suggest a meal for our 3yo. It was so nice to dine at a real restaurant with our children and not be rushed. Thank you Team Alliance.
Iris Winterbottom
Little gem. The bar menu is terrific. Good range of delicious, well presented meals at reasonable prices. Amazing range of beers. Nice place to have Sunday lunch.
Roxie
Worst service and attitude I have ever had. We used a discount voucher for the meals, I'm not sure if it was because of that but we had really bad service.
We waited to order for 30 mins, no one even came to our table to offer water or drinks. Totally ignored.
After finally ordered and got our meals and drinks, no one came to ask if everything was alright or need anything else.
Even when they brought the meals, they said nothing and just put the plates on the table.

The food itself was alright, so it's really disappointing.
In regards to the establishment it is well refurbished however the staff seem arrogant for what is essentially an over priced pub.

I think the reason all the restaurants and cafes give out vouchers or coupons is to get new customers and the point of doing that is to make them feel like they want to come back again with their friends or family even without vouchers but with their service it will never happen.
Yum Yum
Good wine list and the wagyu burger is yum! Duck spring rolls also a favourite. A cute corner pub.
JasnGen
Great little pub that has been reno'd really well. Good menu in both the bistro & bar. The "Meature" menu is super & it is so good to come to a pub that is not a chain pub with the same old crappy pub meals being churned out by chefs who don't care.

Love it guys, keep up the top work.

....Piri Piri Chicken with Sweet Corn Salsa and Acocado Cream and it looked to have been the pick of all the dishes. The chicken was well cooked and had retained all of its moisture during the cooking process, but still had lovely crispy skin. The Piri Piri had just enough bite to make it interesting without over powering the subtle taste of the chicken. The sweet corn salsa was a welcome addition and provided some texture and contrasting flavours.....
