Had the best meal - it made my night, and the service was outstanding.. I had the beef short ribs which were delicious and so tender.. would go back just for these.. my husband had the roast pork - he fancies himself as a bit of a Masterchef! Lol and said it was the best pork meal he has ever had!!! I found the serving very filling so I passed on dessert- but my husband had the apple and Rhubarb- and I think he would have licked the plate if it was appropriate.. overall and outstanding night that was special on all levels..
Have wanted to visit E'cco Bistro for years and years. My sister coming up from Sydney to celebrate my birthday with me was just the excuse to finally book.
I wasn't disappointed. We decided on the degustation menu with matching wines which the charming waiter with the ever-so-sexy French accent promised could be made gluten-free with one substitution - lamb breast instead of the agnolotti.
What an absolutely delicious, fantastic meal it was. Just blown away by the taste sensations, each course a visual delight, and work of art.
So recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to eat wonderful food.
Wonderful meal here! Divine food and impeccable attentive service. Highly recommend the bugs and suckling pig! Yum! Gives the Melbourne restaurants a run for their money! Ha ha!
Always amazing food, the combination of discourse are just exquisite. Has been my favorite restaurant for years and still is. Not to mention the prices, it is still one of the most affordable restaurants around. The wait staff cannot do enough for you. With impeccable services very competitive pricing and the most mouthwatering delicious food I don't think I will ever be able to top this place.
We enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu tonight and the meals where Devine!! Everything was cooked to perfection and presented impeccably. In my opinion the best restaurant in Brisbane by far! Alex our serviceman for the evening was very accomodating and attentive and made our Anniversary dinner a memorable one. Thank you for the little added touch of the anniversary chocolate plate ïżœ
We will be back!
Food, presentation, service , all were up to expectations, will definitively be returning
All the very best in your new location
Had a wonderful wedding anniversary made special by the lovely staff and excellent food and atmosphere at a great new venue. A lovely gesture to complete the evening is shown in the photo comment below.
This was before covid-19 restrictions, but I was looking through my photos & was reminiscing on the beauty that is e'cco bistro. Can't wait to come back & dine in again!
We had the three course lunch - Atlantic salmon, market fish & peach raspberry cheesecake, & it was amazinggg đđđ
The main & dessert in particular were a knockout, & left my partner & I wanting to lick the plate. Our starter of salmon was good, although I personally wanted a bit of kick from it, perhaps through a citrus hit? The second course of fish was perfectly cooked - the veloute so buttery & flavourful, plus the pairing with the soybeans & seaweed gave it a beautiful umami flavour.
The dessert
My gluttony wishes there was more food but they are definitely decent sized portions.
Service was also on point, but we'd gotten there around 2pm on a Saturday, & it was dying down anyway.
Need this food again my life, because all I do is work so I can go out to eat. See you soon e'cco!
Amazing food and service! One of the best restaurant I have had in a long time. The presentation and the taste of the food are fabulous. Especially the apple pie dessert. The only thing that my partner didn't like was the rib was too fatty. But other than that everything was great. Would definitely come back again.
Had an excellent meal, enjoyed both entree and mains. They were very busy when we got there and it took a while to seat us - it felt like they were flustered. Starter didnt arrive, however, it was eventually brought out and removed from the bill. Service got much better after the slight busy period. Overall enjoyed the food and experience.
While I have my holiday at Okinawa last week, we received an email from this restaurant about the long table dinner for the Bushfire Crisis Appeal. We immediately rang up for the ticket so we attended it last night.
Honestly, we have not been back since 2015 so it was our first time to come to its new location in Newstead.
Love the lay-out and it was a full house night. Although we went there ourselves, it is not hard to meet new friends there with long table dinner. Food was pre-set for suckling pig night with sides of veg & salad, roasted pumpkin and beer-battered chips. The suckling pig was done perfectly but the hero was the chips. They are so crispy......đđđ
Should go back soon to try out other dishes on the menu. Cheers!
Last visit: May 2015 rating 4/5
I loved the steak and chicken and dessert here. Personalised and attentive service made this experience 5/5.
Went here for a birthday dinner with the partner on a week night.
We chose the three-course dinner special (for $69 pp).
For entrees: (i) Kingfish crudo: light, textural and fresh starter. (ii) Prawn tortellini: perfectly made pasta with a rich flavourful broth.
For mains: (i) Angus short ribs: absolutely tender and mouthwatering; highly recommend. (ii) Spatchcock: well-cooked with different textures of vegetables.
For desserts: (i) Charred peppered pineapple: a nice balance of tartness and sweetness. (ii) Rhubarb brioche bread pudding (not officially offered on the special course options, however the kitchen kindly included this one for us): lovely and light, and not overly sweet.
Service was friendly and efficient. Reservations recommended. Smart casual ambience. Reasonable prices.
Overall, a wonderful dining experience.
First time dining at Eâcco Bistro for our 10th yr anniversary. Couldnât rate it higher. Thanks for the wonderful experience and surprise. Food was amazing!
5 stars? Absolutely. Memorably good food, fun efficient service thatâs not pompous, comfortable seating (I now know which is my fav table at Eâcco), and great interior design. Oh, and a sense that there is no rush... relax... and we did. Thank you again to the Eâcco team. See you again soon
Visited Eâcco for their $39 2-course lunch special, which my wife and I thought was good value. The menu was impressive, mainly because it was difficult to choose which dishes to select.
I eventually ended up with the salmon for my entree (4.5/5) and the steak for my main (4/5). With my steaks I prefer simple flavours and focusing on the flavour of the meat, which made me feel the sauce was a tad bit too salty. Still pretty happy with the cut and how tender it was.
The only letdown for me was the service, the staff werenât the friendliest and welcoming. Not sure if that was the intention being classified as fine dining?
Went here for a team lunch to take advantage of their âTwo Courses for $39â lunch deal last month. Service was quite slow, and a little unfriendly... I decided to go for the Salmon for entree and the Pork Belly for main. Salmon was melt-in-the-mouth fantastic! The pork belly was reeeally yummy too. We ended up also ordering dessert because they all just sounded so good - the Hazelnut Semifredo Sandwich was definitely a standout đ Overall, despite the service, great lunch experience with the team! Would be keen to try out a few things from their full menu next time :)
A very big restaurant name in Brisbane, very high reputation when friends recommended it to me. I went with the 39 dollars lunch special to try it out. I had a really high expectation for.it as everyone talked it up therefore it wasnt an extrodinary experience unfortunately. Salmon was good size 4.5 star the steak was okay probably 4 star as well. Service waa 3.5 stars.
I worry sometimes when I dine out. I worry that very good established restaurants may suffer declining patronage and viability, with so many new venues popping up all over town at increasing frequency.
This was the case when I recently enjoyed a lovely lunch at eâcco with my sister. A special menu offering 2 courses for $39 ticked my omnipresent box of âgood valueâ. Entrees of salmon or gnocchi. Mains of pork belly or John Dory. A well priced Spanish Albariño was the perfect accompaniment. Eâccoâs signature mango and passion fruit cheesecake was shared and nicely rounded out an exceptional lunch.
The new(ish) space at Newstead is an oasis of elegance and calm. The welcome and the service ... warm, professional, caring, attentive and knowledgeable.
Eâcco has been a stalwart on Brisbaneâs dining scene for a long time, and deservedly so. Letâs hope this solid performer continues to be so.
To much anticipation by Philip Johnson's strong local following, e'cco bistro opened its doors in 1995, starting what has turned out to be a Brisbane landmark restaurant. Located in an historic building on the fringe of Brisbane's central business district, the century old former tea warehouse oozes with character an ambiance. Almost twenty years on, e'cco underwent a total refurbishment in October of 2014, giving it a contemporary look, yet preserving the inviting, warm bistro feel that has stood the test of time. As Philip says "We do as little as possible with the best ingredients available."
My partner had locked himself out of his apartment so was running late. I decided to have a drink at the bar while I waited- lovely Hentley Farm Riesling. Once he arrived we sat at our table and looked at the menu while we ate some warm bread and truffle butter with charcoal salt. We chose olives and grissini to share while we enjoyed a cocktail. Next were the entrees- mine a baked salmon and his a kingfish crudo with lime and coconut. Both were very very good. Our mains were the amazing Moreton Bay bug risotto which I refused to share- it was outstanding. My partner had quail with Paris mash and Brussel sprouts. We shared roast cauliflower with almonds and currants. Mains were enjoyed with some Prosecco. No room for dessert but we shall return and select something from their delicious looking dessert menu. The only thing that let the evening down was the service- there were a lot of staff but each had a particular job- so when the waitress poured our water and we asked if we could order our food she had to get the other waitress. The drinks were bought over by someone else! Everyone was friendly but it just seemed a bit disorganised in that respect- also when it came to getting the bill- we ended up just going to the register and asking for it there. Meal - faultless !
Not a pinch on the old restaurant but still enjoyed lunch here , not sure about storing the wine bottles against the window in the sun but food and service was great really enjoyed the Barra and will be back again
New menu has the Kobe Wagyu Special - would have been 5 star if not for the grapes - if youâre paying $65 for a steak spring for the seedless grapes guys
On a midweek day three had lunch and were waited upon by the delightful Ash. The lunchtime specials were outstanding value in terms of quality interest and price. Exquisite salmon pork belly and cauliflower outstanding and coffin bay oysters were as fresh as could be! Onto the braised beef short rib etc
As I said superb. Rich food but proper sizes which didnât overpower
Fantastic food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Value for money, high end experience. My wife and I went there last evening for an anniversary dinner. When I asked about getting a better table, the Manager (didnât get her name but she was super-polite) went out of her way to be helpful. Looking around, everyone seemed to be really enjoying their meals and the restaurant. Couldnât have been better.
The duck was superb; tender and mouthwatering. And the walnut tarator was really a wonder; full of flavour and went so well with the duck. The crunchy walnuts and the sublime fig were delightful with the soft meat. But I could happily have lived without the greenery. Okay, I am about to whinge again so jump ahead if it offends you - 2 small strips of breast? Really? Truth to tell, I was still hungry after this. And the waiter had suggested sharing. Sharing? I felt there was a bit of cynicism here; charging a substantial amount for such a tiny amount of food. I understand the huge costs that restaurants face, but!
Mr P. on the other hand, chose a nice chunk of brisket. This was reminiscent of beef cheek; nicely shredded, tender meat with a creamy fennel accompaniment. I enjoyed my wee taste of this dish, and hubby was happy with it too. He was satisfied with the quantity, and loved the taste and texture.
Chocolate marquise with caramelised white chocolate and pecans was our last dish of the day. This was so delicious. A crunchy little crumble and a few colourful leaves decorated the plate. I kindly gave Mr P. a few bites. This was a mousse-y, light but rich chocolate delight.
All up, we had a pleasant lunch with some fantastic dishes. Love the open kitchen; enjoyed watching the chefs do their thing. But - there is a but: neither myself nor hubby can quite define what we found troublesome here. There just seemed to be a general lack of warmth and joie de vivre. Service was fine, timing was fine, and the meal was superb for the most part, but ... The words perfunctory and mechanical come to mind. I will leave it to you, dear fellow diners to find out for yourselves.
Was excited to go and check out eâccoâs new digs in Newstead last night and was super impressed! I must say, the city locale was always awkward to get to and I certainly felt the space was tired. Clearly, being brand spanking new, the fit out is modern and sharp and a great backdrop to the new menu.
We shared the Bugs and Salmon for entree and then Porterhouse and duck for mains. All were spectacular and I am a big fan of the wood/charcoal cooking so this eâcco will definitely be back on the radar for all special occasions from now on!
Last time I came to Brisbane this place was almost impossible to get into. The evolving dining scene appears to have fixed that early in the week.
Sleek, modern restaurant with impeccable service. The beer list was short and not particularly creative (CUB "light craft" playlist). The wine list is great, good balance of styles, price points and countries. We had a NZ Pinot, it was excellent. Sauternes by the glass was pretty good.
The food is excellent. I had the daily special: rabbit and painted lobster lasagne. Awesome. Others went for variations on steak and loved it. Dessert was great too I had many chocolate things, someone had the custard tart and was still banging on about it the next day.
Not cheap, but very good.
We started with the venison tartare, which was spot on. The meat had a coarse grind which allowed for a better texture and flavour than the fine grind tartare you often get. For my main I had the free range suckling pig, which fell a bit short as it had a lot of un-rendered fat and not much meat. The pig was saved by the black lime ash that added a perfect unique flavour that you only find in attentive establishments.Â
The atmosphere and service were both on point and I would definitely return!
One of my favourite, if not the best find dining establishments I've been to in Brisbane. Highly recommend the chicken liver parfait and the short rib which are to die for. For dessert we ordered a selection and most were just ok, however the stand out was the cheesecake. Service was excellent. Can't wait to go again.
I've been to Ecco bistro a few times over the past 7 years and it never disappoints. The flavours have taken a slightly Middle eastern twist since my first. Within my party of 4 we had perfectly cooked barramundi with crispy skin and tender steak and slow cooked beef. Everyone enjoyed the meals and the dessert was yummy too! Everything on the menu sounds delicious it's hard to chose! One of my favourites in brissy cbd
E'cco is one of my favourite fine dining restaurants in Brisbane. The consistency of their service and food is outstanding. I've dined here so many times and they always deliver with flavour. The only disappointing part is now they don't do free bread...you have to pay for it. We didn't mind paying for the bread because it was absolutely delicious and for $6 we got almost a half loaf serving. The octopus dish was my favourite, beautifully cooked, so tender and the flavours were a hit. That bit of pork jowl was beautiful and went so we with the seafood. The duck breast was perfection too. Cooked medium and came with a very interesting caramelised yoghurt sauce. The short rib was so complex in flavour but was a bit too strong for my liking. We really wanted to get dessert but the servings are so big that we couldn't fit anything else (plus we had a few cheeky chips on the side and various negronis).
E'cco proves that it is worthy of its long-standing reputation, time and time again. The menu is unusual, with flavour combos that you wouldn't expect, but work well, and mouth-wateringly so. We had our Xmas party here on Friday. Everything was amazing, from the wine, to the food, to the staff, who were very friendly and engaging. Cannot fault!!
A gorgeous meal with great ambiance and service. But I don't expect anything less from Ecco!
The only thing I didn't like was the marshmallow and puffed rice base under my semifreddo, it was too hard and chewy. But everything else was a dream!
5/5 stunning restaurant the service and food could not be faulted. We have the tasting degustation 5courses absolutely divine. The tuna my favourite. If you haven't been here thoroughly recommend
I cannot rate this place highly enough. Absolutely fantastic tasting menu, couldn't fault a single dish. Normally I'm not a fan of pork belly, but there was little fat and it was cooked to perfection! As for the desert, well...I could have eaten it again and more! Thank you for a great night Ecco!
One of the delicious place to eat in Brisbane. The charges are on upper end but worth paying for the tasty food. Service is also good and fast. We went on a weekday afternoon so was not much crowded and had a great time in a relaxed environment. They have good collection of champagne and wines. We requested sweet champagne but unfortunately they only had one from New Zealand, which was little bit sour. But the chicken and beef dishes were really well cooked and had very good taste.
Iâve wanted to eat here as soon as I heard all the rave reviews and saw the pictures of the amazing dishes. Alas, it has taken a long time to getting around to dining here.
We booked in using the Dimmi app and had no troubles. Browsing the online menu weâd pretty much decided what to eat even before we arrived!
We shared some bread and I had the wagyu beef tongue to start, the bread was great and the beef was especially good. For our main course we shared the Milly Hill za'atar spiced and herb crusted lamb shoulder with a side of roasted sweet potato. To be honest we really didnât need the sweet potato as the salad and eggplant that accompanied the lamb were more than enough for us. The lamb and all the sides were fantastic, the meat was exceptional! As we couldnât eat all the lamb (saving room for dessert!) we took some of the lamb home with us as it was simply too good to waste (it tasted great the next day too). For desserts we had the toasted marshmallow and the caramelia date cake both were nice, but unfortunately they were just too sweet (and we both have a sweet tooth), they just lacked a bit of something to balance out all the sweetness.
Overall, an excellent meal with good service, but unfortunately the oversweet dessert took the edge off for us.
Great service, delicious food and an amazing menu!! I had the confit lamb for entree & suckling pig for main and the flavours and textures were just so well balanced!
Wait staff were polite and attentive & were able to answer any questions we had.
Great value for money given the quality of food, atmosphere & service.
Will definitely return!
We ate here on a Friday night with another couple, this was our first E'cco experience & the food was exceptional. My husband & I shared the lamb shoulder & were particularly impressed. The serving size for the price ($80) was very generous, we ended up sharing it with the other couple we dined with. The meat was tender, the sides perfectly matched & the jus perfectly balanced.
The wine menu was impressive & we weren't disappointed, what was disappointing however was the service. I sincerely hope the waiter who attended our table on this particular night was working his first ever shift waiting tables. He was eager & helpful when questioned about the menu but his service left a lot to be desired, it was very unpolished & akin to the type of service I would expect in a cafe. I think when one is paying $40 for fine done mains that the wait staff should mirror this & on this particular night our waiter did not. We tried not to let his unpolished wait skills deter us from enjoying the delicious food coming out of the kitchen but when we were served main & were forced to delay eating our main course while waiting for the wine we decided that the service was a genuine problem.
I would like to hope that this was a one off & that this particular waiter had a really bad night that this his ineptness is not an indication of the level of service one is to expect at E'cco.
The food & service at E'cco are outstanding!
We tried the tasting menu with matching wine and the pairings are superb.
The octopus was the stand out dish of the night for me, with the duck being one of the fest I've ever had. Crispy skin with hardly any fat and amazing flavours.
Great food, great service, great vibes. Had bit of a taste test and was very pleased. Will be a returning customer :)
Pork belly was a little on the fatty side but just melted in you mouth, just how it should be!
Magnificent! A top quality fine dining experience. We had the chefs tasting menu and were treated to a wonderful display of modern cuisine, attention to detail, and complex flavors. The matching wines were pretty much perfect. Great service and a beautiful location. Prefect date night or special occasion location.
For our first anniversary, my boyfriend and I went to Eâcco Bistro for their five course meal with matching wine. Their menu looked so great, and I was really excited. First course: Yellowtail kingfish ceviche, blood plum, wasabi, piel de sapo, pickled radish matched with cremant de bourgogne from France.
Come here for Special occasions or just because you need a lovely meal executed with attention to detail, quality ingredients and magic flavours. Service is excellent also. Started with a glass of bubbles each and oysters (natural good, with sobrasada kilpatrick was savoury and well balanced) to share for the table, then had the tasting menu (a la carte also available) and highly recommend all courses of this. Each course built on the next, but was delightful in own right. Highlights were the duck and the dessert of a middle eastern deconstructed carrot cake with rice ice cream and other morsels - not too sweet, and came together very well.
I finally got to eat here last week, after plans to visit had fallen through every time previously. E'cco delivered what I expected - a very professional dining experience, with some wonderful dishes, but maybe missing some of the excitement I had hoped for. One dish that ticked every box was the octopus - it was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten and was an exciting experience with the tastes and textures ever so enjoyable. Maybe having a dish that good made the others feel less exciting! We had the tasting menu, which was well considered and had some other lovely highlights, like the kingfish cevice and the carrot puree with the tortellini. I felt the menu offered excellent value considering the quality of the food. The place is lovely, all the staff were well trained.  The matching wines were also very well considered (and poured at a very appropriate size, which basically was somewhat disappointing! It is kind of nice when you feel they are spoiling you a bit with a little extra!)  I'm not sure quite what it was, but we didn't feel inclined to linger - a lack of warmth? And being greedy, we headed off to find a cheese platter and bottle of wine elsewhere. Overall, thank you for a lovely night and I would happily go back to order the octopus again!
Ah-mazing!! Great staff, great drinks, great food. Great really is an understatement. I don't review to often but when I feel a place really warrants it I do - E'cco is no exception.
From the lady who greeted and seated me, to the waiter and the bar woman, all were warm and friendly. The food was off the charts. Their beef with caramelised onion and garlic purée was the most amazing thing I have ever eaten. I will recommend this place to all my friends who come to Brisbane.
Flat out the best meal I've ever had! Charcuterie to start was amazing, followed by a beautifully moist chicken with a side of potato gratin and a dense chocolate brownie to finish the night perfectly. My partner had the duck which he couldn't fault. Can I go back now please??
My boyfriend and I ate there a couple of weeks ago during our trip to Australia. We stopped for a day and night in Brisbane, and we were so lucky to have found this restaurant. First, the owners Philip and Mary were very welcoming, as well as our waiter, second, our dinner was absolutely amazing. I had a chicken dish and I have to say it was one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves innovative and delicious food.

When the doors to e'cco bistro opened back in 1995 people said a restaurant would never work at that end of town. Twenty years later and still a leader in the Brisbane food scene, owner Philip Johnson has more than proved them wrong. Philip and partner Mary Randles hosted a lunch to showcase the restaurant's new spring menu as a tasting menu.
Nice French food and great wine bistro close to CBD. The service was very good from start to finish and wait staff were very attentive.  The entree, main course was very unique and well prepared. The long island steak was tender juicy and makes it on my top 3 in Brisbane. The service matches international standards and excellence. Outstanding food, great ambiance, great wine and exceeds Brisbaneâs restaurant service standards.
We decided to give Ecco Bistro a try after the recent changes in the kitchen. The new head chef has done a great job by introducing new dishes to the restaurant. Every dish we had was packed full of flavor and enjoyable.  Compared to the old menu, I'd have to say the dishes are more sophisticated and flavorsome.
The service is the weak point. There have been a lot of staff changes and this is plain to see. The new staff are unorganised and lack direction. One of the staff members didnt know what a sommelier was and if they had one. The maitre d is pleasant but she lacks the necessary skills for the position.Â
The lack of BYO wine now on the weekend is another loss. The wine list is OK, but after the departure of the old sommelier I feel this will also suffer the same fate as the service.
Good points- Great food
Bad- Everything else
Excellent service and nice environment. Enjoyed our night there
Had the Chiefs tasting menu and was very nice, 3 stand out dished for me the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th. Found the first dish the octopus a little heavy straight up and desert wasn't my fav. But all round great service and good fresh and tasty food
Still has not been beaten. Best food we have ever had in Brisbane and we are 50 somethings. Everything about this restaurant is just right. Can't wait to return.
There are a lot of reasons I love going out to dinner including not having to chop onions and not having to don yellow gloves to wash-up. While these things are a given at any dining establishment, other things arenât guaranteed: great quality food, friendly service and finding an ambience thatâs a nice place to be. One place that does offer all of these things is Brisbane dining institution, e'cco bistro. Recently revamped at the end of 2014, eâcco now boasts some new killer good looks but still maintains its chilled-out vibes. So how was the rest of the dining experience here? Letâs find out. Eâcco has been around for 20
The BEST Duck!.
Get the DUCK! The Duck with carrot puree was sweet, moist, tender, blushing pick - perfect.
It was a packed Friday night so was impressed they could put out a dish to such a high standard.
En Surface oysters were lovely and creamy.
The rest of the degustation was so-so and hit a few bum notes.
Scallops were paired with a carbonara pasta and bacon chips, which overpowered the scallops and was missing an acidic zing.
Lamb was dry and tasteless, watercress sauce was nice and bitter but missing some sweet notes.
Dessert was a strawberry mousse, a white chocolate mousse and basil accents. Was lovely but the paired rutherglen tokay was too sweet and heavy for this dessert, would have been better with something light, like a sparkling.
Wines - were respectable but it would have been fun to have something a bit more out of the ordinary.
However they were extremely generous with the pours and the bar staff were helpful, friendly and were happy to share their wine knowledge.
It was a fun night out and i enjoyed the atmosphere but overall, apart from the duck, the food was a little underwhelming - not worth a return visit.
Have been here twice. My first visit in 2012 I experienced the best meal of my life (scallop entree) and in 2013 enjoyed my visit but unfortunately the entree no longer existed. Service was a par
Best meal I've had in Brisbane. Just incredible.
Best restaurant in Brisbane! Love their menu always consistent!!
Good food but not exceptional. Came here for good food month lunch. The pork belly was nice but not exceptional. The flavour was more Asian style and the presentation was rustic.
Food: 9/10, tasty food, fresh and light
Drinks: 9/10, great variaty of wine and beer
Service: 9/10
Value: 7/10, great place to eat, but a bit expensive.
Great food and service. Ok decor. We went as a family and ordered a few entrees four mains and desserts and decided to share to taste each one. The entrees and mains were superb. Can't fault them. Their weakness is their desserts. The poached pear was too hard and not that tasty, the other desserts were all average tasting (you would get better at max brenner) However overall it was a great experience. Service was very pleasant.
Good experience. It's exactly what it claims to be - a top bistro-style eatery. Lovely service and excellent food. I can highly recommend the gnocchi and confit duck.
Really good food Highly rec.... Really good food
Highly recommend
Not cheap but worth it any money
Great food, dreadful manager. Went to ecco for my birthday. When my girlfriend and I approached the desk to be seated, the person we later learned was the manager completely ignored us. We were standing a foot away while she shuffled things around on her desk. There is no way she was oblivious to our presence, my girlfriend and I were talking to each other, and when she finally did look up there was no surprise, and no apology for keeping us waiting for 5 minutes. It was bizarre. No "won't keep you a minute." or "can you bear with me for a moment." Just a weird kind of charade like we weren't actually there. When she decided to acknowledge us we didn't get any sort of apology or even a greeting. It was the strangest, most unfriendly welcome to a restaurant I have ever experienced. Food and table service were both excellent.
Never Fails. On a busy Thursday night, the team at E'cco impressed us again with it's outstanding service and sensational food and wine. We've been going to E'cco for years and not once have we walked away disappointed.
Although the Mushroom entre has seemed to have shrunk over the years, it has not shrunk in flavour or deliciousness. My steak was cooked beautifully. I forgot to order my side of brussel sprouts before my main arrived but Ashley our waitress got them to our table faster than a speeding bullet.
My only concern for E'cco at this time is that the décor is getting tired. The room is beautifully 'conversational' but I'm feeling that a revamp is due.
Brisbane Classic. A staple of the Brisbane dining scene that hasn't lost its charm. Menu changes regularly which keeps me coming back. The staff are very knowledgeable .
Nice place. Came here with my hubby-food was excellent, service the same.
A bit pricey but worth it.
Regulars for a reason. My two girlfriends and I are regulars at Ecco because we love it. We do try other restaurants, but for an abundance of quality food, we always come back to E'cco. Last night we asked for a side of white polenta (not on the menu) because we are polenta fiends. The waitress seemed taken aback at first but readily agreed to our somewhat unusual request, and brought us the most enourmous bowl of deliciously creamy polenta. The rest of the food was wonderful as always. I should also add that one of my friends is gluten intolerant but there are always plenty of options for her.
This place is very classy and the food is always impressive! Hard to fault!
Excellent. I went here for my birthday. I booked ahead and they were going to put us in the corner seat on the bench seats. I have been through this before and I hate sitting right next to another couple less than 20 cm away. They gladly moved us and seated us at a table near the kitchen. Without any fuss. Thank you!
The food was outstanding. I ordered the gnocchi salad which I am still thinking about today! We also had seared scallops and mains were steak & duck.
Wonderful night to say the least. The only pointer I would give is to upgrade the interiors. It seems dated and does not align with the amazing food that is coming out of the kitchen. Would recommend to anyone.
Consistently Good. Have been to Ecco 4 or 5 times now and each time the food and service are perfect. There is a reason they have been open for so long.
Had the banana tarte tartin for dessert which was so, SO good.
Being quite new to the urbanspoon space, I shall express this as eloquently as possible... This is an amazing place to go! Would definitely recommend to others!

Impressive. My visit to Ecco was a great dining experience everything from the food to the service is top notch. I was there with three other friends and we ordered entrees mains desserts and drinks, everything ordered was delicious. A restaurant that deserves its great reputation and revisits.
Delicious. Great steak, brilliant food and good atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place as it's versatile - good for a small group of friends or perfect for a date. It's romantic and charming, and the staff & service is exceptional. I'm looking forward to my next visit at E'cco.
Honestly one of the best meals I've had. Ever. The service -incredible. The food - amazing.
Great. I had dinner here again last week and the food was excellent as always. The service wasn't as polished as I remember from previous visits but certainly better than what you will find elsewhere.
For a special event it is still the place.
Never once been disappointed. Iconic restaurant in Brisbane.
LOVED IT! Can't wait to return.. Amazing food, fabulous atmosphere - stuff for vegetarians to eat to! One of my favourites (unless the wine was confusing me).
Echo other positive sentiments. An absolute favourite of mine. Love food, staff, location - it just works. Have had many memorable nights here over the last 15 years. Brisbane is lucky to have Philllip Johnson
I came to E'cco for a work dinner. It was a very long awaited dinner, I have been wanting to go to E'cco having heard such good things. Really enjoyable food, the whole table had consistently high quality food. Did not disappoint. Congratulations E'cco for being on top for so long!
No parking anywhere near, take a cab. Have had 6-7 meals here over the last 3 years. Consistent quality of food. Only once did we have a waiter with 'tude. Overall, positive experiences especially if you avoid Friday and Saturday night when packed.
Hard to find but good food and service. We struggled to find the place but once there just a nice experience. Will recommend!
Magic in brisbane. Fantastic meal. The quail &truffle entree was great, the lamb loin main perfectly cooked
Great service and a nice wine list, well priced
It has been about two years since we were last here. Tho the interior hasn't changed the food is still amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed my fish dish- full of flavor, texture and generously served. Our waiter seemed new or rather inexperienced but he still gave us good service. Verdict is totally yumm! Won't be waiting another two years for our next visit.
The food at Ecco is simple and generally done well. Ordered the scallop entree which was delicious. My duck was overbooked, but still edible. Dessert was delicious.
Food is very pricey for what it is, and I can think of a number of better restaurants to spend your money. Would recommend E'cco, but I wouldn't consider it a must visit.
Good. The service was fantastic and I couldn't fault the food.
Food and service fantastic but when paying top $$ expected much nicer environment. The decor is dated. The lighting is harsh (fluorescent lighting on the walls). The chairs are hard and uncomfortable. I sat on the window seats which were made of plastic and consequently everytime I moved I stuck to it.
Very Good. It's one of the better restaurants going around. Well trained staff provide the standard of service you'd expect at a fine dining restaurant. The food doesn't disappoint, not particularly cutting edge but just really well executed.
It's expensive but worth it. Brilliantly put together wine list that does the food justice.
E'cco good as ever. Hadn't stopped by for at least 2 years & pleased to see some of the same staff still there.
can't go past the Steak. Excellent as always.
Consistency, quality produce and good cooking. Service is above par. Parking is a hassle but well worth the effort.
Fun factor. Located at the pointy end of the BNE dining spectrum this place has the wow factor on the plate, on the palate and in the dining room - it is FUN to sit in ... the crowd and the room is noisy and relaxed, the service is caring, the cooking is sharp as a tack ... $$$ but worth every penny
My wife and I went for a special occasion and were not disappointed. Although I agree the decor is a bit dated the food was the focus and everything in that respect was great. We had the punpkin ravioli and mushroom on toast to start. Great presentation and punchy flavours. Onto mains with pork belly and barramundi. The pork belly was a melting crispy treat and the barramundi went amazingly well with the Persian fetta underneath. Two thumbs up. Prices are a wee bit high compared to similar calibre restaurants but no complaints generally.
My partner took me here as a surprise for my birthday, and it was amazing! The food was all cooked perfectly with an awesome balance for flavours, and the steak was the most tender I've had hands down. Absolutely fabulous
Frequent visitor. I have been going to E'cco for years. It goes up and down a little but generally a great meal. Some staff are better than others. The older staff that have been there for years are great. I had a guy serving us last time that thought he was a but above serving... I think that the food is better when Phillip is around though. Being able to BYO is a bonus. I dont mind paying $40+ for mains if they are good but I think that salads are tiny for price.
Consistent ....always. I have recently started writing reviews because I eat out A LOT. and I thought I would start with one thats never let me down. E'cco has never EVER delivered me a bad dish and I must have been there 20 times. The atmosphere is a little tired but the food is flawless. Its a tad expensive but the value is there and Phillip Johnson revises the menu regularly so I am never bored...I think his seafood based dishes shine the brightest....do yourself a favour.
Mixed feelings. The food was absolutely phenomenal and the wine list would blow anyone's socks off, but my problem with e'cco involved the most arrogant service I've ever seen, which really surprised me for such a fine establishment. I know exactly what it comes down to, and to be honest I would've expected better. It was because everyone on my table was under 25, and I have visible piercings and tattoos. I would've thought that in this day and age people learn not to pigeon-hole their customers before they sound them out, but our waiter was an older gentleman who made it very clear from the very beginning that he thought we didn't belong in his restaurant. He judged us based on appearance and decided we didn't have money to spend and treated us accordingly. Well mister, biggest mistake you made that night. First it was the eye-rolling when one of the meals wasn't ready to be cleared when he came around to do so (correct me if I'm wrong, but it's up to the customer to decide when they've finished their meal?). Secondly, we had arrived early in the night, fully aware that there was a second sitting at 8pm, and at about 7.40 when we called him over for the bill he challenged us with a "now, you do know you this table's been booked for 8 o'clock don't you?".
His demeanour absolutely appalled me, especially because it was crystal clear why we were being treated like so.
Like I say, the food was mind-blowing and overall it was a great night, but that waiter was a thorn in our side the whole time and continues to raise my hackles when I think about the experience. I look forward to coming back soon for a second chance and forming a much more holistically positive experience, because I know that e'cco is more than capable of doing so.
It's a great restaurant and still hold a highest standards amongst the fine fining scene in Brisbane
AMAZING food!. Ecco Bistro serves up the most beautiful meals and has fantastic service. It is a bit expensive but you deinitely get your money's worth here. Wait staff have always been extremely attentive and helpful and set you at ease as soon as you walk in. Love it here!
Been to E'cco a handfull of times over the last few years, never had a bad meal or the same meal. Phillip Johnson sources fresh and seasonal produce and flavours used are all very complimentary. Granted the meals are not cheap around $45 main, it is money well spent and is well deserving of all positive reviews. The front of house staff are very attentive and the vibe can seem chaotic but is very relaxing and not pretentious.
Super tasty. Good service and delightful vibe. I would sell my legs to visit more if I had to. Lucky I have a visa card.
Bistro. Nice, simple fare, a tad overpriced, but great ambience and snappy service. Well worth a return visit, but wish the menu was a bit more robust.
Had a lovely time. Ordered scallops for entree and pork belly for main. Drank tapanappa Pinot noir with these. Attentive, discrete service. Food was excellent and beautifully timed. Will come again.
Simply great food, easily one of the best on Bris. Expensive but worth it. The open spatchcock pie was delicious, and the pork belly got rave reviews from the others.
Loved it! I am a little surprised at the caning this place gets in the user reviews. We found our lunch two days ago with our son, just perfect. It was a pity the owner wasn't there as we wanted his recipe book signed. We loved the experience just the same and will be returning.
Great Food!!!!. Always love going here!!! great food and service
Delicious food in a nice casual atmosphere. Been several times. Tip - dont book an early table and you will have a great meal.
We had a lovely time for our 15th wedding anniversary. Service was prompt and attentive. Liked the fact it was BYO. The food was wonderful. It's relaxed and not too posh. We had a fun and memorable night. Thanks.
Stunner. Hi
I ate at e'cco last night 5/5/11 & just needed to put down in writing what a stunning experience from start to finish. It's really rare to have a fabulous starter (Quail) outdone by a wonderful main (Angus) only to be floored by an astounding desert (the alchemy of green apple and coriander is still bowling me over). Great wine selection also. We had an international party who were all left (almost) speechless.
Mr Consistency. My dinner date and I did a Wednesday night just for a change and I was pleasantly surprised, the dining experience was just like that had on a Friday night. No compromises at e'cco and I do love to look at the bullet hole in the window facing the river-side of the restaurant. gives it a bit of an edgy-feel (Chicago-esque).
Amazing Cuisine!. Great food without being too pretentious. A relaxed atmosphere with fantastic service.
Food was divine! We will definitely be back :)
Excellent, not cheap, but perhaps proof that sometimes you get what you pay for. I shall definitely be returning.
Recommended for special occasions or impressing your date. Top class.
Still a stand out. Well you just cannot go wrong, nothing could be faulted and the service was perfect. A must for locals and visitors alike.
Brilliant Food. Our table for 2 was across from the bar and seemed quite casual but still lovely. Service from our waiter was impeccable from the start and it was nice to have a single waiter for food and drinks. We both ordered the field mushroom entree that came served on bread and topped with parmesan and rocket. This meal was perfect! There was a long wait before the main course - too long in our opinion but this was our only real complain about our evening out. For mains my husband ordered the tagliatelle from the vegetarian menu which he couldn't fault. I ordered the salmon. I do like to see a line of dark pink through the middle of my salmon, which was missing so I felt that it was slightly overcooked but the skin was beautifully crisp and the accompanying potato rosti was generous and delicious. We shared a side of broccolini which was also delicious. Overall, the food was fantastic as was the service from our waiter although the kitchen was a bit slow with the mains. I would certainly return.
Beautful flavour, but a bit small portions. I really enjoyed my expereince at Ecco, I went here about 1 years ago with my wife for her brithday. The entree I had wasnt really to my tasting, but my wifes was amazing, it was a prawn dish that was mouth watering.
For our mains, I had a type of beef salad, which was amazing, not quite big enough to fill me up, but the flavour was fantastic. The prices are not too bad for the flavour. I would definitly recomend it to someone who is just looking to get some great tasting food.
Very fine food indeed. Had heard a lot about E'cco and finally made it there with my partner on Valentine's Day. It totally lived up to its hype. Service was excellent and food divine. Definitely worth a visit.
Attention to detail, the best food and service Brisbane has to offer. Yes, it is cramped and a little loud but everyone is just happy to have secured a table here. 18/20
Excellent food - fresh, flavoursome, and interesting texture - served by attentive and friendly waitstaff. Happy throughout the meal. Decent coffee too. Highly recommended.
Went there as part of the Get Fresh with Jerry Coleby-Williams event. Was served a great 3 course lunch. Food and service were excellent.
All round excellence. Great for special occasions. Expensive but great quality food, wine & service.
Great food of course but like a lot of good restaurants lately the tables are very small, chairs are hard and the staff are rushes which gives an ambience more like cafe than a top restaurant
Top dollars for top quality. E'cco is definitely one of the must-visit list for dining in Brisbane. The menu is exquisite and the atmosphere is also terrific. However, the price range tends to put it out of most people's idea of a night out in town for dinner. I would highly recommend this for special occasions only.
Great stuff. One of the few 'proper' restaurants in Brisbane.
Best in Australia. Phillip Johnson does wonderful things with food.
He didn't win best in Australia for nothing. It undoubtedly is best in Brisbane.
This restaurant is all about the food. The ambience and decore are straight forward but the food is great.

Live long and prosper Eâcco Bistro, and may your exceptional edible experiences echo through the ages.
Tucked away among the streets between the city and fortitude valley, E'cco sits on a slight hill just before the entrance to the story bridge on the corner of Adelaide street....
Despite all the waiting and the lack of quantity, most dishes were enjoyed and new taste and textures were experienced. It was a nice evening at E'cco but I just wished there was more for my buck.
Eâcco Bistro has come along way since 1995. Recently, Eâcco celebrated their 18th birthday. Owner/chef Philip Johnson has brought simple, unpretentious fare to the outskirts of Brisbane city for 18 years. The menu is simple and featured food that looks not out of place with many of todayâs modern menus. Many things which are commonplace these days wouldâve been exotic and unknown back in the mid-90s. The venue still maintains many of the same decor from 18 years ago. A true testament that Philipâs ideas and thinking was way ahead of his time. An assortment of round tables and long tables make Eâcco well accommodating for a date for two up to large groups. Thereâs the Eâcco bar is also available for private functions. I was lucky enough to sample many favourites from the original eâcco menu. We were treated to fresh bread and butter before our entrees came. A simple touch that is always nice. My love for butter is like no other. We each picked a different entrĂ©e and in true food-lover s
Itâs the open-book foundations that Ecco stands upon & the genuine relationships formed that make it one of Brisbaneâs most prominent restaurants today
I came here all on my lonesome but was eager to try the Salmon main. Â It was absolutely delicious. The rich sweet corn risotto was amazing. It's not quite a risotto but more like a generous sauce of corn, spinach, hollandaise type sauce. Â The Salmon was fresh, crunchy and delicious. It's a slightly posh place so expect to pay a little more $. Â I'd definitely come back given the opportunity. Ecco Bistro is highly recommended by most of my friends. Seared Salmon, Risotto of Sweet Corn, Green Onion, Spinach and Tomato Vinaigrette.
You'd imagine that a meal prepared by Brisbane's best and brightest up-coming and already here chefs would be pretty special, and you'd be right. Festivities kicked off with welcome from E'cco's Philip Johnson and the Good Food Guide's Natascha Mirosch and a brief introduction to the young chefs, before the culmination of a day's (and lifetime's) hard work kicked off.
Tucked away on the edge of the CBD, Eâcco has become a desination restaurant and a consistent favourite amongst foodies around Brisbane and is an institution known for its high quality food and impeccable service. Its style, both in the food and the restaurant itself, is classic with modern twist and is perfect for a lunch in the city to celebrate anything worth the trip (and cheque). You wonât be disspointed with anything on the seasonal menu but my suggestions would be the eye fillet with bone marrow and onion rings or the bork belly with caramalised peach. Price: about $60 for 2 courses.
Thank you eâcco bistro for having me and proving that duck may be as god as I imagined it long time ago. It was a pleasure.
As you would imagine, the wines of this occasion were absolutely superior and matched to the meal. I'm not a fan of the sparkling, but as Charles made excuses for in his speech, it's a frivolous tipple and not to be taken seriously. The 2009 Richelieu Grenache was excellent and t
You know the food is amazing when there is silence in our table!
The food was incredible. The best dish of the night would have to go to the smoked quail which was beautifully complimented with the Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay.
Possibly, the best meal we had in Brisbane this far, wait a minute, it is not possible but affirmative. Now ever since moving to Australia, we have not indulged in any form of fine dining whatsoever for a multiple of reasons. Ranging from the exorbitant prices (being in the Malaysian mode where you calculate everything with a multiplier of 3 to actually being able to replicate it at home and of course transportation problems because you really don't want to take a bus to a fancy restaurant). Apart from the
E'cco has reaffirmed itself as one of my favorite places to eat in Brisbane. I like that it doesn't feel the need to be flash or fancy and the focus is entirely on the quality of the food. Our waitress was friendly and after the initial long wait, we didn't have any service hiccups. Overall, a wonderful experience.
I've eaten at e'cco quite a few times, but for some reason I hadn't made it back there in the last couple of years. So when a friend from London and I were trying to find a restaurant that would let us bring along a few good bottles of wine, e'cco was the

In a world thatâs constantly changing itâs unusual to find a restaurant that not only has lasted 18 years but also has hardly changed its dĂ©cor in that time. Philip Johnsonâs eâcco ticks both those boxes and quite a few more. Lauded for its innovative dĂ©cor when launched 18 years ago, and with only the addition of a bar area, the restaurant continues to stand side-by-side with Brisbaneâs best, both in dĂ©cor and food. Located on the city fringe of Brisbane's CBD district, the bistro brought new life to a historic tea warehouse in a once unfashionable district near the Story Bridge end of the City. While others might be looking a little tired, eâcco just looks familiar and welcoming, with food that continues to surprise and please and highly trained, professional wait staff. Since its opening, eâcco has won many accolades including Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant of the Year in 2007, for its unpretentious food that focuses on simplicity, flavour and presentation. Here's a blast f
If taste buds could talk, I'd let them write this review.
Words can't even describe how amazing everything was last night...
The combination of textures and favours with every bite, were an absolute delight.
We loved it so much, we booked valentines dinner on the spot.
Looking forward to having another culinary experience.
Thank you to the staff and chef, super welcoming. Thank you for the experience e'cco, see you soon.
Visited Ecco a few years back and I had a vague memory of the food . Having dined at most of the â5â star restaurants in Brisbane, Ecco is right up there. The menu is limited, but each and every dish is mouthwatering. Not cheep , we spent $600 for 3 . Mind you we did not hold back on the food or drink. We chose to share our meals so we got to taste most of the menu. Service was great , perhaps a touch slow , but I was with my kids and it did not matter.
If itâs about the food for you, then Ecco should be your destination . Highly recommended
Very much enjoyed the lunch I had here with my husband. Just a casual lunch, and Ecco made it a memorable one by providing good food, good wine and good service. Not the pretentious fine food, just simple good food, with the hint of artistic presentation, careful attention and fresh ingredients. Thank you!!
In general, it was a good experienced. There is diversity in the work place, which makes the service great. Place was cozy, food was good, the serving was alright, wine pairing is great as well.
Took Mum for Mother's Day lunch. Food, service, drinks were all excellent. There had been a miscommunication when booking but the staff quickly adjusted and accommodated my Mum's dietary needs - thank you! My favourite dish was the gnocchi in truffle sauce - sooo good! It ended up being ~$120 p/Hd including drinks. Mum was very happy & that's always a good sign.
