I think this is possibly the coolest little bar eatery in Brisbane. It’s the best I’ve found while here anyway. Great service, great coffee, good food and the music is notably awesome every time. Will be a staple every time I visit. :)
Awesome coffee and some vegan options! Very cool place, wanna go back for an evening...meant to see if they had any vegan wines but forgot! Would def recommend tho.
Love how tucked away from the real world it is - if it wasn't for my friend I would never have found it. Nice food and great champagne
Customer service . The coffee, food, music and vibe is awesome. A fun funky cafe hidden in the heart of the city. If you love the coffee scene this is a must visit location in Brisbane.
First visit on Saturday, for a non-drinker they had a great variety of other drinks. Reasonable prices for quality food and drink. Excellent service, good music, bit like the ones in Melbourne. Overall, I give it a rating of five and look forward to a return. The cheese bagel burger is superb.
I enjoyed my first visit to Brew. Very quirky digs and absolutely loved the album menus. So glad I booked a table, it was super busy on Sunday lunch time.
Nice range of foods and beverages available at reasonable prices.
I would recommend Brew though if you dont know to enter off Burnett Lane it would be so easy to not find
This place have all what I look for when eating outside. Great service, delicious food and the atmosphere ohhh so unique !!
The food is to die for, the coffee strong and delicious, and the staff super friendly. Go check them out, you wont be sorry :)
Always enjoy Brew it is one of mine and my friends favourite haunts the atmosphere and music is amazing beer is a little pricey but it is the city so expected and 50 cent wing night on Wednesday more than makes up for it
Great place to drink eat and socialise. Food was good, great vibe and excellent Muso’s.
Great food, great drinks, great service, great atmosphere. Worth the stop in for a coffee/beer break.
Wouldn’t have found this hidden spot without Zomato. Had my first ever beetroot latte together with the French toast. The latte didn’t convince me. The French toast however was amazing. Smelled delicious! Took me back to the first time I had French toast four years ago in Melbourne. The thick slices of toast wasn’t soaked all the way through but they were still sooo soft inside. Simple toppings, the dish was really all about the French toast.
Hidden gem off one of the busiest streets in the CBD. Buddha bowl was excellent- heaps of flavour & fresh ingredients. My non- vegetarian husband had the halloumi bagel meal, which he said was delicious. Nice vibe and friendly staff.
I’m in Brisbane for the weekend and I made sure to have breakfast here.
I had the classic brekkie roll and an iced long black.
The brekkie roll was big and it took me a few seconds to figure out how to begin eating it. It was delicious. The bacon was crispy, the hollandaise sauce was just right, the eggs were poached very nicely and the bun was soft and fluffy. I enjoyed my breakfast.
The staff were attentive and very friendly and while I was there, regular customers were coming and going and were being greeted by their first names.
I would happily come back to Brew when I’m in town.
Love the vibe of this place, really cool atmosphere and decor. Brew is a great place for drinks with friends so you can chill and chat for hours.
I went here for dinner and ordered the planet burger which had a deep fried chickpea patty which I would of preffered to be more flavourful and not deep fried but the burger itself was good.
My friends said they enjoyed their meals and that they were a fullfilling size and presented nicely. My friends said they would definitely come back here cause they liked the feel of the place.
Definitely recommend for a few drinks and a yummy, hearty feed.
Brew is a hidden gem tucked away from the hustling and bustling streets of Brisbane, yet remains easily accessible. Located in what seemed at first as a dodgy alleyway, it’s laneway location actually forewarns its grunge style.
You’ll fall in love with the edgy art hanging on the walls, the rustic-pub feel the place has to it & the cosy atmosphere Brew offers.
The truffle fries & BCF nuggets were delicious & served fresh and hot. The drinks— Iced Chocolate & Iced Mocha were creamy and cold. Alongside this, the service was also impeccable. At first, there was an issue with our food being made. So, without us even needing to address the issue, the waiter came over, slipped our money back on the table, gave us a pat on the back and said “This one’s on the house. Sorry for the long wait”. Incredible!
So, folks, I recommend Brew 10/10 for anybody who is looking for a peaceful time, good food, and excellent service.
One of the best cafes in Brisbane city I have been. I came here for lunch with my friends. The pasta and chicken wings are awesome. Good location, great service, and yummy food. Don’t miss it when you travel in Brisbane
The restaurant is located in a laneway which does not look great and to be honest scary and rundown but I am so glad that I overcame my slightly unnerved feeling. I ordered the Brew salad and a locally brewed cider. The salad was so great that I nearly licked my plate (one of the best I have had in ages). The cider was a great add on to the meal. This place is seriously funky and laid back. It's was one of my favourite places to dine in and/or have some drinks in a hidden pocket of Brisbanes CBD.
Nice funky place... Good venue... Good healthy but a small menu for brekkie lunch and snacks. Coffee was great and love the grungy look. Waiting staff come across as full of attitude at first but warm up over time
Very eccentric and helpful staff here which always brightens your mood. Great food and even better coffee. Deceptively so looking venue from the outside but extends out to a bigger bar and dining area. Amazing home brew and great food with large portions.
So glad to have found this little gem. Amazing food and coffee, their London Fog tea is also great and worth a try if you like a good tea. Service in the morning is great.
Had I not previously done some research on the whereabouts of this place I probably would have walked straight past it given it's at the end of a laneway (and it didn't look like much with what you can see in that laneway). Glad we came for dinner as our food was so delicious and cooked so well. We had the signature brew burger and sticky beef ribs. The only negative comment I have is with the beef ribs, the chunk of meat not off the bone was quite tough and dry that I had to leave it. Besides this, things we top notch. The lemon meringue cocktail was good too, I especially liked how they added sugar to the top of the foam and torched it, kind of reminds me of the top of a creme brulee and you get the sweetness with the otherwise savoury flavours.
Interesting hidden cafe, a good option either for after work beers or a quiet breakfast or lunch. The food options have gradually improved over time and I've enjoyed the burgers particularly. If you like craft beer there are usually some really good options on tap - Fig Jam IPA was awesome.
Always good to come here after work for a few drinks with friends. Best chips in the city. Good brunch menu. Few selections for vegetarian. Good atmosphere. Good value.
Down a lane way and underground you will find there comfortably dark decor of Brew. They have a playful and inventive menu with lots of fantastic tasting options. The southwest style eggs Benedict “Brew Bene” was great. Coffee was well made. Friendly and prompt service tops it off!
This is another place that I had wanted to visit for a long time but could never get an opportunity to do so until today when I found myself nearby and looking for something to eat.
After looking at the menu I decided to go for the Vegan burger and the cthulhu black IPA.
I'm gonna start saying that when having burgers I don't usually feel like it's a burger if there's not a patty to it (like this one had a big field mushroom instead), having said that, I did not have this problem at this time, I thoroughly enjoyed my burger since the first bite and I found myself wanting more after the last. The veggie chips on the side were a bit disappointing though, in my opinion having regular chips would be better since it tasted just like a pack of veggie chips from the supermarket.
Overall I had an amazing lunch and will definitely be back.
I've tried to get in here a couple time before Brut but it was usually busy so I left it for a Tuesday when it might not be as crazy. The place is small but definitely has a bigger feel and ambiance without loud music. The staff was friendly tonight. The food good but the fries on the salty side.
Would go back.
Wow, pretty rare you can find a place that has great beer, nibbles, and delicious breakfast and lunch. The coffee needs to be more consistent as one of the barista's is brutal where the rest are just supreme.
Good atmosphere, friendly service, decent selection of beers on tap and good food. What's not to like? Can recommend the signature Brew burger. Chilli and chicken meatballs could use all little more kick, but that's a minor complaint.
Great location and place gives a cool vibe being down an alleyway and underneath a building. Pretty hipster and feels a bit like Your having brekkie in Melbourne.
Coffee was good - nice and mellow. If you like your coffee sharp and strong you may have a different opinion.
Service was fine the day we went, not great not bad either.
We got the breakfast items a haloumi bagel and avo on toast (rye). Both were quite tasty and we would go again but small critiques : 1.being not enough avo for two bits of toast and secondly for a bagel I except an American style doughy dense bread however this was basically a fancy looking regular white toast which I find is common in Australia for bagels.
Good price 1 coffee and two breakfasts were in the 30’s somewhere from memory. Well worth it for the price.

Awesome hipster hidden cafe!!! Super friendly staff supplying delicious non-stingey food!! Got the smashed avo and actually got a lot of avo- cheers for not skimping on the fundamental ingredient that most other cafes do!! Cappuccino also had great froth going on!!!
The halloumi bagel was pretty good and the brekkie bowl was okay. However, the scrambled eggs in the "eggs your way" were overcooked and tasteless. They were what I would expect from a cheap B&B buffet, the kind that have to be washed down with hot sauce. The sourdough was also not the good kind that I expected, and was soggy from the eggs being placed on top of it.
Great food with good portions, the service was fast and friendly. I also had their coffee and would recommend - overall a great brunch experience. Only thing I would say is that indoors, it is quite dark, better lighting would be nice but that's just me being picky. I definitely recommend and will be returning!
Hidden in an alley which is very Melbournesque. Haloumi bagel was great as was the service. Cool place to hang out and chill too. Would return :)
A nice little joint tucked away in an alley way. 2we went there for lunch on a Friday arvo and they were packed.
The cold brew is a must they bring out a cold drip with milk and syrup on the side. Delicious
The mushroom burger was apparently one of the best according to my partner. The truffle mayo fries were crunchy and yummy. I had the brew brekkie bowl, a really nice mixture of falafel pumpkin poached eggs and kale. It was definitely a healthy meal but it was a smashing dish!
Highly recommend this place!
Tucked away in a laneway where many may walk past but not realise there was even a cafe/bar there. If you go towards the City Hall from Albert Street, you will find this low-key cafe on your right, just next to the corner 711 shop. From a light lunch or heavy, from cocktails to wine or even just a nibble of savoury or even sweets, you sure will find it here. The atmosphere is casual and has a bit of a vintage yet rustic look. The lighting can be quite dim for some as it isn't the brightest place you will find.
Love this place for a coffee or date if you can get a couch, last time I went they had an incredible tasting brew burger which has sadly since been changed leaving limited options for any carnivores out there. Great layout and decor, don't try the kale juice!
Had the Brew Exotic Mushrooms on Cornbread and it was so good. Mushroom lovers like me would definitely have to try this one out.
Friendly staff with fast and great service
Went here for lunch and it never disappoints! The salad is nice and light and full of flavour. The service is always very good. The ambience is the best part of the place. Very underground and good to get away from that corporate feel. Coffee is great too.
Get the Haloumi Bagel and an espresso martini. Really good vibes and friendly service. They have gluten free and vegetarian options. Decent range of cocktails.
Love to come here for after work drinks, I love the laneway bunker feels. Great drinks and reasonably priced. The coffee is not bad either if you are around in the morning.
BREW is like that classmate in a group assignment who isn't necessarily the smartest, but they always turn up on time and don't suck to be around.
The fact that it is open early everyday is ideal for people who don't work a typical 9-5. On more than one occasion I have found myself at a loss in the city, trying to find decent coffee, until i remember reliable lil' BREW, tucked away in Burnett Lane. This also sets it apart from heaps of coffee shops in the CBD who close on Sundays (why?)
The atmosphere is inviting and trendy. Good if you enjoy sitting on crates and eating in the dark. The coffee is consistently good. Not the best in the city, but very very far from the worst. I've never had to wait too long for a coffee to-go.
BREW also turns into a cool bar at night with a solid selection of craft beverages. One of the best alcoholic ginger beers I've ever had was here.
I feel like BREW is a Brisbane right-of-passage. It may not be everyones first preference, but if it was gone it would be surely missed.
Sometimes on weekdays food inspires me to get outta bed & this was one such occasion - that & a brekkie catch up opportunity!
Firstly: Massive props for a chai latte made on tea leaves & not syrup - hallelujah. Such a rare commodity it bumps up my score a bit.
Foodwise: Scrambled eggs with a side of haloumi for the lovely Mandy Bernadette & the haloumi bagel for me. (This is why we get along so well - there's no need to steal precious haloumi!)
My brekkie bagel came with baby spinach, goats cheese spread, house made tomato relish & kewpie mayo. I ❤️ kewpie mayo. Like 'upend the bottle & squeeze it straight into my mouth' LOVE it. So I can't believe I'm saying this...but this needed less mayo & more goats cheese spread - only got the faintest hint of it at the end. If you list it, then bring it. Other than that, my bagel was solid & I liked it.
Overall: Food here is dependably decent in my experiences over the years. And a buzzing spot for a post work pint. I find the grubby laneway / underground vibe / quirky decore appealing.
Just Brew it!
Really good breakfast. The spicy chorizo and beans was really well done. I like the way they put a twist on your typical breakfast by adding their unique flavourings through sauces and herbs. The standard of coffee was really good as well! A solid 8/10!
ordered capuccino and toast with vegemite and honey. all was tasty (except vegemite haha)
the place was surpsingly spacious (didnt expect that by looking at the front door) and the atmosphere was great. certainly good to spend the morning here. oh and the service was superb 😊
I got a vanilla latte here, but the coffee was way too milky for my liking. I wouldn't order the coffee again. This place is hidden in a little alley so for those trying to find the place, keep your eyes peeled.
Update: I came today to try their brunch menu and it was pretty tasty! I tried out their exotic mushrooms on cornbread and it was creamy and delicious. I also tried their brekkie bowl, which was really tasty and filling!

Popped in for breakfast. Great Service, great food, great coffee, great atmosphere. Can't ask for much more than that. Mum & Dad happy. Kids happy.
We were looking something different and found it. Great location, mood, coffee and food. Best Bubble and Squeak ever! Sensational service. We will be back.
Service has really improved. Last couple of times I'd been in the girls were slothing around & chatting and mostly ignoring customers. This time was served by a friendly super energetic guy who actually knew the menu! Well done brew 👏🏼
Good atmosphere if your after a different kind of breakfast. Quick meals and average price. The warm super salad was a bizzare mix but filling and healthy.
OMG WHY DID NOT I FIND THIS PLACE SOONER!!! HUBBA HUBBA this cafe was awesome! Love how tucked away it is - down a driveway and around the corner. Doesn't look like much coming down the driveway until you turn the corner and walk down the short corridor and WOW! Love the cool, rustic but hip vibe. Sooo relaxing considering it is right in the middle of the CBD. Love the different dining room options - comfy arm chairs for a quiet coffee, lounges for shared meals and tables, benches and bar stools for meals.
Haloumi bagel for me, warm super salad for my friend and truffle fries to share - AWESOME (and only cost $44.50 including drinks!). Portion size was on point (my friend couldn't finish her salad as much as she wanted to demolish it!) and the truffle fries were EPIC. I didn't expect such a large portion of fries! Just yummy all around! Service was quick and efficient and our server was the coolest dude out - Brock, you rock. If you want a scrumptious lunch at a great price with great service - go here! AND GET THE TRUFFLE FRIES!!
So, I'm Still Hungry.

Great choice and we sampled a selection of some of the sweet treats. It's just a really nice place to chill out for a few hours with coffee or drinks.
At the bottom of Burnett lane lies Brew, a very popular spot after work drinks and coffee. Friends would know that I go there not infrequently to catch up or chill out after work, but I hadn't tried out their food menu until I went there for lunch with The Hungry Little Goldfish last week. With the restaurant being situated underground, it was quite dark.

Tea takes 20 mins which is local brew apparently. Nothing great in it but the coffee cups are amazing. The potato cakes were a bit dry but the haloumi bagel was apparently fantastic.
Brew has always had great staff and vibes. It's a great place to have a coffee and get tasks done on your electronic device. However, I was disappointed with the amount of time I had to wait for the food to come out during lunch. My friend and I ordered a salad and a burger and we were both puzzled as to why it took around 20 minutes for it to arrive. The staff had a great attitude though, so it was a big issue but I probably won't come back for lunch.
Great staff, good food and the best cold press coffee I've had in Brisbane so far. Also converts to a neat little bar by night. I make a note to take as many friends I can to this place as it's really got it's own unique character. But it may not be for everyone.
Superfood Salad; $13 with high protein grains, butternut pumpkin, hummus, kale, avo, sweet potato crisps and eggs. Down a graffiti alley, such a cool cafe with awesome food. Bloody Mary’s and coffee are great too.
Down a graffiti alley, such a cool cafe with awesome food. Bloody Mary’s and coffee are great too. Underground vibe with extensive menu was hard to choose!
After walking past this happening lane a couple of times, I decided to venture in. Service was good, decor was certainly unique and the food was impressive. I mentioned to the chef on the way out that the cheese with the Avacado on toast was a little overpowering under the bread and might be better on the side. However, I forgot to mention how perfect the halloumi bagel and cup of coffee was! Thanks Brew
Walk past the garbage and find an awesome little spot in Brisbane CBD. The food is awesome, atmosphere great, and the staff are usually friendly. Great for a noisy catchup, don't go there if you want peace and quiet though ;)
went there last friday and it was really nice to enjoy the breakfast with my family. The coffee is also very good and match with all the milk shake flavours.
Brew is great. Water comes in old vodka bottles, menus are made of recycled old hard cover books, and there's interesting portraits of native butterflies on the wall. Loud music inside but not too loud to make you have to yell across the table. Choice of sitting on tables or couches. Great catch up spot- food is in decent portions and tastes gourmet. The wording of meals sometimes is a little wordy, as a vegetarian I accidentally ordered something with meat once because I didn't know the fancy word meant bacon and neither did the friends I was with! Staff are cool too, very casj and once served meal after taking an order a few mins after breakfast meals were over which we were so appreciative of. Overall a cool underground spot with chill vibes for both the corporate and casual
Best and most consistent coffee experience in Brissy CBD.
We have flown to Brisbane a few times for holidays over the last few years and the coffee at Brew always delivers for us super snobby Melbourne coffee drinkers!
We have had breakfast there a few times. It may just be what we chose from the menu but we weren't super impressed by the food, I had the muesli which was pretty bland to be honest and really really hard on the teeth. It was all hard grains, I think the almonds may have even gotten a little burnt and charred... there's not much fruit or flakes/ soft puffed things or yogurt to balance it out. Hubby had the scrambled eggs which left a watery pond on the bottom of his plate making the toast soaked and inedible at the end which was a shame.
There does look like some other pretty yummy stuff on the menu though so we will be back to try the food again but as I said, the coffee is the bomb!
I came here while I was in the city with a friend in our group that had been before. When we first arrived I wasn't sure what I was in for going down the street and around the the corner into the building. It's like an underground cafe and bar and probably not good for anyone freaked out by low ceilings and no windows. I really enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere and the service was very friendly. We had share servings of nachos and chips that were light but filling. Sadly I didn't even try their coffee so I'll definitely be needing to visit again and try the main menu and drinks to write a better review.
The coffee was great one of the best coffees I have had in a while. I had the special of sliders and they were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. We were a group of five and there wasn't a complaint amongst us.
One of the best places for coffee in the cbd, especially one that's open on the weekend. Worth looking for, is a bit hard to find the first time. Nice atmosphere and handy location.
Smooth, luxurious coffee and great service as well. It hasnt changed much in two years, which to me is a fantastic thing. Definitely worth a visit.
Interior was insanely cool. Could only stop by for drinks the other night but will definitely be back for food very soon. Like that this place is open late too. Nice set up!
This place has become my go to for breakfast when I'm in the city. I haven't had a bad meal here, the service is great, they have a pleasant team working there and the atmosphere is second to none. I love the tunes that are played and the temperature is always perfect and cool. If you haven't eaten here because you are intimidated by walking down the alley, fear not, you won't be disappointed! I only rated them a 4.5 because they don't do chai lattes, but they do have chai tea.
Great place in the city for breakfast or a quick bite. It gets really busy at times so you often have to wait a while for service, but other than that the coffee is always good, though they do change how their dishes are served quite often. I think I've had about 5 different versions of their avocado dish on the breakfast menu, and some have been better than others.
Coffee is very good here as is the food. Always fresh and fast service. Consistency is the key and these guys certainly meet their mark in this area.

Ate breakfast here and would highly recommend, great selection and not your average run of the mill selections. Lovely coffee with actual lactose free milk as an option not just soy on offer, and great service
Best coffee in brisbane!!. Brew is definitely the best place to hide away on a hot day....cool air con, great vibes and fantastic coffee!
Very impressed! Love this nook cafe/restaurant. Visited first time today and give 6 out of 5 for the food, 5 out 5 for coffee and 8 of 10 for ambience. For $40 we got a chicken sandwich, haloumi bagel, bowl of fries with aioli, regular latte, corona & lime bottle, and 500ml Pelligrino. Give it a go at least once.
A little overpriced but the food and service was good and friendly respectively.
Hipster Cool. Cute little hipster cool joint. However service is a little slow and dishes overpriced for what you get - don't go there hungry!
Unique Gem in the city, with oodles of character to boot!. I have been a regular customer at brew for over a year now and find it a pleasure every time. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with a unique character that I have rarely found elsewhere. The mixture of decor, music and smiles always peps me up. I have gotten to know some of the staff and I can say that these are REAL PEOPLE, who value their customer service but are capable of open honest communication person to person which I prefer instead of other phoney balony places. Any comments about the slow service are only reflections of the size and capacity of the place, which can be crowded at busy times but this is because Brew has something that other places don't! Food is delicious, I've tried everything on the menu but it hasn't stopped me trying it again and as for splitting bills, well alot of places in Brisbane do this and it's really not an issue if your a reasonable person that's willing to help cater to the requests of the people that are serving you. All you haters get over yourselves, why try to turn it into something its not, appreciate it for what it is, a GEM!
Brew smashes almost everything. Atmosphere is amazing, music is unreal, food is great and staff are super friendly. One thing, my friend and I sat at a table for a good 10 mins or so without being seen (even though it's table service); we ended up having to go to the counter for menus and to order. We weren't charged for drinks however which proved to be satsifactory service. All in all Brew is a must visit, another hit of Burnett Lane.
A pleasant surprise and one I'll go back again. A quirky little Hidy hole right in the heart of town. Food was good and service too.
Caffeine and booze in the same place. Brew is a hidden haunt on the lower end of Burnett Lane. Don't be put off by the fact that the entry looks like a driveway to a carpark (because it actually is!). What started as a hole-in-the-wall has since expanded into an full café and wine bar. Get both your morning caffeine hit and your after-work drinks in the same place.
Hidden nook and great every time. Coffee & food great and reasonably priced. Dinner also great and well priced. Service is hit and miss - exceptional sometimes not so good others. I attend on a weekly basis and recommend it to all my friends - so a big thumbs up from me!
Have been to brew twice expecting good things. Menu however is very limited and could do with a change. Laid back service but that's the atmosphere they're going for.
This is one funky little place. interesting menu and a pretty nice range of beverages to boot! :)
Only discoverable by the daring and curious. This uber hip hideaway bar/cafe tucked away at the bottom of Burnett Lane is the coolest hangout for drinks and after work snacking. They make some mean (vegetarian) toasted sandwiches, the best in brisbane in my opinion, and other delicious light meals to satisfy hungrythirsty. Wana feel cool? Then disappear down the alley way...
Fast Coffee!. I have only had a takeaway coffee here, on my way to a meeting and it was fast and tasted great, I look forward to going back for some breakfast!
Cool place in brisbane cbd. A very cool place to hang out amd have drinks in Brisbane Cbd. Have not managed to try any food here but the drinks are great. Good coffee, great beers/ciders on tap, cool decor, super friendly staff. The only bad thing in the summer is that it is underground, so it gets super hot, as its got no aircon! There is a massive fan blowing.... But sadly it is still hot and muggy during summer :(
HALOUMI. Brew has been a popular coffee spot for me and my mates for yonks. The deserts here are fresh and delicious. Breakfast was beautiful and there's the option to add on haloumi, avocado, mushrooms and all the fantastic extras you desire. The breakfast, however, was insanely greasy and I was left feeling ill the entire day.
Quick friendly service during friday lunch rush. Simple yummy food. Will be back.
What a little gem. A little gem nicely hidden and tucked away in the alleyways. Great food with a touch of complexity and the freshness of the ingredients cuts through the palate. Coffee, undoubtedly, is one of the best I have tasted so far. A great balance of espresso and milk which not only brings out the texture and flavour of the coffee, but also showcasing the robustness of the coffee beans.
Hidden gem. Discreetly located down a lane way, Brew has the best coffee I have found in the CBD. Tasty food too. Eclectic clientele and grungy atmosphere which only adds to the experience! I've never been here in the evening but I'm sure it has a great vibe.
Tucked down a small sloped lane way and in a quaint private setting we found Brew Cafe.
The atmosphere is quirky and it sits in a subterranean little wooden cavern and feels like an old sailors den.
My partner and I came up from Sydney and were eager to find a good coffee with food to match and reliable friendly service.
We both ordered lattes and a meal from the breakfast menu.
My partner Ordered the muesli with apple compote and I ordered the Brew salad with haloumi
Both meals were fresh and scrumptious and the coffee full and aromatic, served with two chocolate coffee beans.
The service was prompt and friendly and warm.
We returned again for a second visit two days later and the result was the same, great meals, great food and great service.
Will make it a must do when in brisbane.
I have to admit I've had a couple horrible coffees here but I still go back because I like the staff and the atmosphere. There's a brunette girl who's name I don't know but she makes beautiful coffee and has lovely customer service even when the place is packed out. She needs a pay rise :)
A groovy little place... It's a reliable pick if you're out and about in the city and feel a bit stuck for cafe options. The coffee is good but varies greatly between baristas. The food is cafe standard, though I reckon it tastes better because of the vibe and the chatter of a content crowd.
Coffee- Please sir I want more. Lovely lovely coffee and generous servings make for a great start to the morning. I ended up having 3 cups and had a great time with friends. The food was terrific and the service was great.
Down the alley. Great atmosphere. Service can be a little lacklustre at times.
Awesome atmosphere Great pl.... Awesome atmosphere
Great place to lose yourself over a few beers and some great food
Vibe-alicious. Right from the moment i walked in and saw the gorgeous blackboards alerting me to the fabulousness that lay within i was hooked. My waitress greeted us with charm and a laid back attitude and seated us in the depths of the luscious space. Watching the staff I noted they are comfortable yet ultimately competent and run a tight ship. The coffee is bang on, must try the single origin. A couple of cocktails in i was in underground paradise. hoorah
Happy. I like Brew its awesome. new foods are good
Great atmosphere and coffee, staff can be a little grumpy at times and the food is average. A good place for coffee but I'd go elsewhere for food
Average Food. Price-5, Service-6, Food-4, Atmosphere-8
Nice place, average food at best (breakfast)
Underground gem. This place is awesome- I'm a huge coffee lover, and I'm yet to find better coffee in Brisbane. Funky atmosphere, good food friendly service. Definitely worth checking out!
Brisbane's best kept secret - an amazing venue, wonderfully knowledgeable staff, great music and fantastic drinks! :)
Liked Brew very much. Great coffee, nice menu choices, funky decor. Will go again.
Come here for the atmosphere and if you have time to enjoy a leisurely coffee or beer with a mate, don't come here expecting good service because it's average at best.
Been working here for a bout 9months and extremely impressed with everyone and the cafe it self. Do you guys remember it being 40 degrees and everyone sweating? That's all history. Do you remember no tap beers? 6 tap beers and more to come. Brew isn't perfect and it's with people leaving comments here that help us shape who we are and how we do things. But don't be strangers, if you have any problem just ask. And if you see that we are having a day from hell, ask us how we going. I don't know the rules about leaving comments here, but I just wanted to give out a big thanks to everyone is trying to keep the place together. From here we want to be a better venue, but more so we want to be a community of people who like simple foods, coffee and Booz.
Thanks brew, as you given me and many people before opportunity!
P.s. in brew a chai tea and chain late is a chai tea cause you get more bang for your buck.
Breakfast - coffee was decent, breakfast of poach eggs with avocado was solid. Time from order to arrival was about 20 minutes, price was $16
Thank god for Brew! Such a great hidden treasure just around the corner from the mall. Been here a few times, and the coffee has been great. Last time - not amazing (milk a bit burnt), but acceptable. We had gluten free berry cake (looked like a round frians) - yum. The staff are always lovely and casual, and the decor is cool but not too hipster. Love hanging out here. Looking forward to having lunch or dinner here some time. Thank you very much, Brew. Please never change!
Great for casual drinks. Relaxed atmosphere with decent drink selection.
Perfect place to hang out after dinner when dont wanna go home just yet~
Love this place. Great atmosphere and amazing service. The tailor made to our taste cocktails were spectacular and delivered with flair by bar staff truly dedicated to the craft. Thankyou Brew for making our evening. We will be back!
Groovy. This place is relaxed and a bit funky. Nice and refreshing change from the never ending expensive, sterile places full of suits that make up most of the bars in the Brisbane CBD. Great selection of grog, food's not too bad either.
Amazing!. The food and coffee is amazing!
A definite cool hidden away place for sure!!
Really chilled place with a great atmosphere. The staff are lovely and they have a huge range of drinks. Good for after work.
Incredible. What a place. I've been here a few times now and for the most part it has been consistently really good for several reasons (fantastic service, unbelievable cocktails, beautiful set-up, superb atmosphere).
There's a tonne of greatness here: The staff are so genuinely nice, friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. Every night I've been in for drinks my mate and I, or my partner and I spend a large amount of time simple chatting with all the staff. Very welcoming and some interesting conversations have been had. Keep it up, its a rarity.
The cocktails are really made with care and passion. Of a few occasions now the bar staff have simply made me a cocktail up on the spot and every time my missus and I have loved them. Every time they're different as well. One particular barman with curly hair, moustache and an excellent accent was really good, offering us samples as he made the cocktail, explaining the composition and reasons for the various drinks involved (recent one we tried tasted of Christmas as he put it, and it did).
The Melbouresque feel is great and really is a welcome addition to Brisbane and in particular the CBD. The rough unpolished edge to the venue really does it justice and helps in creating the much more laid back, less serious, pretentious vibe that can happen with such places. I hope they stay away from polishing it up as it gets popular.
There are a couple of minor irritations: Coffee can take a bit of time during the day, although not always, which I don't mind so long as I'm told a realistic time frame for my wait.
The heat does build, but as was explained clearly and in great detail by a gentleman behind the bar, maintenance has started on new aircon and it will be up and running by march. I hope this is true as the heat can get rather intense unfortunately.
The food can be a bit lacklustre after a few visits, it becomes uninspiring. Which is a shame as I feel that a good way for places to combat such stagnation is to have a regular, consistent and rarely repeated weekly special. Easy to do with some planning and works a charm for the regulars. There is often at least one dish not in stock as well.
A side from these minor and easily fixed hiccups, I can only praise this joint for bringing something truly special to Brisbane and the CBD in the evenings.
Hidden Cafe. Superb lane way cafe experience! Smooth coffee and enthusiastic staff : )
VERY satisfied!. Delicious cocktails, made to perfection and served with a cracking smile. Customer service was superb. Big thanks to Tom for making my dining experience truly memorable.
Love the atmosphere but they forgot about our food and we waited for a looooong time. I went and asked if our food was coming at all. We got a refund for our order in the end. The food was alright... Not spectacular.
Great spot to chill with a coffee or a beer. Great service, great vibe, great coffee. Fantastic.
Great coffee :) one of my favourites.... breakfast is okay tastes good but not exceptional
Loved this place!. I came across this little hole in the wall gem one night after dinner and was surprised to find this little place tucked away down an alley playing amazing live music! While I didn't get a chance to sample the food, the atmosphere was great! Would definitely come back again :)
Best Chai. I will be honest, I haven't actually eaten here (but the food that goes by looks great!)
I love this place for its chai tea. It is sweet, hot, spicy and tasty, They make it from a crazy syrupy substance in a jar which looks like one of my niece's mud and stick pies. But it only looks zo weird because it is made from real spices, herbs and cinnamon sticks. They add this to hot milk, froth it and I am in heaven. It kicks the crappy asses of any powder or syrup 'chai' out there. PLUS it has tea leaves in it so it gives you a little caffeine kick too. This is my favourite drink in the world.
But the service is kinda crap, they are a little rude and think they are too cool for school. But I can over look that for the chai
All in all we had a great meal/atmosphere the staff were polite and friendly food was lovely service was a tad on the slow side but perfectly acceptable were going back tomorrow!
Reliable and Relaxed. The antipasti plates and snacks are good, but main meals are a bit iffy (I had the Spanish stew and it was super spicy and parts of it were cold), but other items on the menu I've tried have always been good. A trusty spot for a quick bite and drink with a relaxed atmosphere.
Tried the avocado salad.. It was nothing special.. Lacked seasoning so i had to ask for salt and pepper. The avocados were slightly unripe and the cheese tasteless.. Wouldnt recommend the avocado salad but i would strongly recomment the vegetarian grilled sandwiches! Great flavour! Very filling:D brew has a great atmosphere :)
Oh wow is all I can say. We wandered down an alley way following some trendy people and found ourselves in what once must have been an underground storage area? Car park? What ever it is, it's amazing. Coffee is to die for, menu looks amazing and wait staff are the usual tatted up individuals that you would expect down below. Definitely somewhere I would recommend.
Brewtiful!. People who find the staff have attitude are probably bringing their own attitude with them! Yes, bijou and busy, yes also funky style and very friendly staff, if you just give them the space to deal with everyone and come back a couple of times. Love the place!
(And I agree with other reviews ... try the ($5!) soup!)
Gret vibe, great music, great set up... But for a place with astro turf duck taped to the flood (which in my option is actually quite cool), drinks were a little pricey.. $8.50 for a cider is a tad exuberant for a hole in the wall watering hole.
Salmon salad was amazing as was haloumi. Drinks a little over priced but was good overall. Wouldn't say it was for everyone tho but we had a good night. Great feel to the place
Fantastic service at a very Melbourne-like food and watering hole. Literally-it's a hole in the wall down an alley. Love it! Great food for sharing or individual meals, tapas or main sized, reasonable prices. Good wine. Love it, fantastic place.
A little piece of NYC. So pleased to see a place like this in Brisbane ....it reminded me off places I went to in NYC ..great atmosphere and excellent brews BRAVO
Had one of the sandwiches which are always great! Little creatures on tap is a bonus as well
Amazing. Went here for breakfast on the weekend for the first time. Not much else to say except it was honestly the best breakfast I've ever paid for. Ordered the "big breakfast" which had perfectly poached eggs, tons of ham stuff, spicy tomato and great toasted bread with rocket. Also ordered haloumi on the side which was better than any I've had (which includes at the Greek Festival). Washed it down with a chai which had just a little hint of honey to it which I've never had before, so yum.
Staff are friendly and efficient (coffees came out in under 10min, food in under 20min), ambience is very cool, and the menu is great value. Will definitely be regulars here
Best Breakfast Ever!. I'm not joking - this was the best breakfast my partner and I have ever had. After doing a one hour run through the city, we were so hungry we got the "Bigger Breakfast" with Haloumi on the side. Never before have I had such perfectly poached eggs, the Gluten Free bread was delicious (and I'm told the toasted ciabatta was amazing), the jamon was divine, the avocado was perfect, and the haloumi out of this world. Great coffee and great chai. I can't believe we haven't heard about this place before, but now we'll be regulars even though it means a 45 minute drive to the CBD. It's definitely worth it though.
Liked the atmosphere. Reminded us of fitzroy in melbourne, but without the rain, food was pretty good but service left a bit
Great secret spot. Best avocado on toast! Great little spot (bigger than expected actually). Not too happy about a pram in there though.
Great cosy spot - poached eggs were bit overbooked but otherwise very tasty breakky. Friend wasnt so keen on the beans - had a taste & they were overwhelmingly smokey. Chai tea to finish off was delish!
Tick and Cross. I hate to sound cliché, however it is 'quite Melbourne'... Great lane way cafe and will be great to see more in Brisbane City like this, then we can say it's 'quite Brisbane'... On the negative, the young male cashier needs to learn to smile, use his words and drop the 'too cool for skool' act, coffee was a great taste, but only lukewarm.
Lovely friendly staff. Excellent venue. Coffee was delicious. My breakfast was fresh and yummy.
Elysium Hair And Beauty Team Night Out. Went their last night with the team from Elysium Hair And Beauty on our team night out. We really enjoyed our visit the team their are really nice and went out of their way to help us with drink suggestions and I really enjoyed my customised cocktails. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and we were able to tuck ourselves away on a couple of sofa's at the back and settle in for the night. The tapas was really nice and was the perfect accompaniment to casual drinks and good conversation. Friendly and relaxed just how we like it.
Groovy but bar is v.limited. Nice little spot, friendly but I feel too old for this vibe - it's like being at a uni party again, held in a grubby common room after hours
GREAT!!!. Great location.
Great service.
Great coffee.
Great drinks.
Great food.
Great name.
My personal favourite hole in the wall. Coffee - tick.
Melbourne/London ambience - tick.
Efficient yet laid back service - tick.
This place is an all round excellent relaxation/coffee spot. The coffee itself was fragrant and very palatable in the consumption! I had soy milk in my coffee, which for me is a good barometer for coffee making skill: no complaints whatsoever.
The venue consists of an open air sitting area, a small front section with a coffee bar and a tucked away section down the side that also contains a licenced bar (drinks on Friday anyone?). I went on an overcast day but the lighting just seemed so perfect to me and I found repose in the laid back stylings of the decor. Kudos to the designer for making artificial grass work well for the venue in the front section.
I got a quick squizz at the breakfast menu - must come back for it!
Extra Groovy!. Wow its so nice to find a funky non-corporate Melbournesque spot to meet in the Brisbane city. Love the layout, easygoing staff, excellent coffee - great mix of Clientele - an absolute must if you're in the CBD!
Great atmosphere! Friday evening drinks felt like bliss- very Melbourne feel to it! Loved it!
Yes please!. Headed to Brew for the first time for a quiet drink after work on a Friday and ended up leaving hours and hours later because we couldn't drag ourselves away from this great venue. Brew has a mix of good service, yummy organic wine and delicious tapas. We had the trio of dips, haloumi, aubergine rolls and meatballs and all four dishes were to-die-for delicious. Definitely a step above your standard tapas. Can't wait to go back for more of the Sav Blanc and to try the rest of their tapas menu.
Pretty damn awesome. Very unique style which is very inviting and comfortable. Great environment, friendly staff, great! Coffee. And sooo cheap. $3.50 is well worth the cappuccino that I got. Great quality. Will be back!
Ily happy hour. Brew is the perfect spot for post-uni drinks in the city. It took me ages to bother checking it out but I'm glad I did. The atmosphere is great and they have happy hour.
Great space, however, there is better coffee to be had in the city. Better for a beer.
It's all about the soup.. Seriously, the soup is what matters here. The beer is fine, the hipsters are bearable and the vibe is pretty welcoming, but IT IS ALL ABOUT THE GODDAMN SOUP. Try it.
Escape for lunch. Brew has a great vibe. I love the quirky decor and the location. Definitely a great escape from work/reality! Went here for lunch and ended up staying too long! The wine list is good and the lunch menu simple. We had the chicken wraps and they hit the spot! I reckon this would be a good place to go to escape the summer heat too.
Hidden treasure. Brew is a brilliant little Melbourne-esque treasure find!
I believe it was set up as a part of Brisbane City Council's lane-ways rejuvenation scheme.
The coffee is decent, and service is always with a smile.
The best part is the ambiance. It is a funky, bohemium oasis in the middle of the city. It's not hippy, but just... quaint!
I am keen to try out their tapas/wine bar.
Sweet atmosphere but so so coffee. Use di Bella beans which I can be hit and miss for me. Piccolo was on the weaker side and slightly pale. Will definitely return due to it's ambience and hope the coffee on the second visit proves my judgements wrong
Sometimes awesome, sometimes not. Great place, funky concept, chatty friendly staff, but the coffee is extremely variable.
I have had amazingly mindblowing coffee here that brought me back for a second one, but I have also had awful coffee. I am usually quite forgiving, but one of the rare occasions I have ever thrown out a coffee was one purchased here.
Niggly little things like a lack of insulation on the paper takeaway cups burning your hands and a poor value loyalty scheme that requires you to buy 10 before you get a free one stops this place from landing a stop on my coffee circuit.
A funky little cafe space, friendly and chilled out staff members, some divine chai tea for all you cinnamon lovers.
Great Coffee!. Awesome coffee/baby cino's! Personable and professional service. A unique venue well worth the visit.
A find in the City. What a great find in a lane. I have been searching for this little gem for a while and finally found the right side of Burnett Lane. A great coffee and friendly familiar staff. A good hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Simple lunch turkish that fills the spot. Have recommended to many in the City.
This is our where to eat and drink guide to Brisbane; incomplete and personally biased for the sort of food we like and what we consider to be ‘value for money’. We have decided to divide our restaurant preferences into occasions rather than areas. We find that generally, where you go depends as much on the reason as the suburb. You have favourite places for family dinner, for Sunday afternoon drinks and Wednesday morning breakfasts and you are happy to travel to get to them. If you want a complete guide for where to eat in Brisbane by price or suburb, visit Urbanspoon . You can read our Urbanspoon reviews as well. We hope you enjoy our recommendations as much as we do. Good anytime Foxy Bean, Wooloongabba – can’t say a bad thing about this place seeing as it was Birgit’s wedding venue, but it is good for any meal of the day. Kettle and Tin, Paddington – popular from brunch through to Tuesday trivia and birthday parties, it’s hard to go wrong at Kettle and Tin. Hoo Ha Bar, South Brisba
The menu at Brew is quite diverse on Sundays with a good range of breakfast options (but no bacon) and a really good selection of tapas. We ordered a mixed selection from the tapas menu and after quite a long wait the food all came out on two huge bread boards. I wan't too bothered about the wait as the vibe in Brew is pretty relaxed and the tunes playing inside were right up my alley, a bit of funky house and acid jazz, awesome.
...so I went for the chicken and pesto sanger (sandwich, for those of you who don't speak Oz) and the chai latte, which I used to really love. I say used to, because today it was quite disappointing! The chai latte wasn't infused one bit and it pretty much tasted like milk. That makes me so sad because I used to love their Nine Owls Chai!
Finding a decent, fairly quiet place for lunch in the CBD under those extreme conditions can be a bit of a challenge. And if the eatery serves tasty food, good coffees, wide selection of drinks and does not rob your bank account - you have discovered a hidden treasure! And Brew is undoubtedly the one!
At the end of the day I think Brew is one of those cultural experiences Brisbanites need. Seeing places like this makes me excited to live in Brisbane as it starts to grow and become it's own city. Great place for a few drinks with friends or a nice cosy hot breakfast. I saw children there and have been assured they are welcome even though I had none with me that day. Definitely one to check out!
My goodness, it was soo cold and windy for an autumns morning in Brisbane! It was incredibly hard to get out of bed, let along mentally preparing myself to step out of the hot shower! But I was already late for a breakfast shindig with my friend, so I had no choice but to depart myself from this warm comfort. Caught the bus and met my friend on it. Arrived in the city and headed towards our breakfast destination: Brew. I'm lead to believe this place is one of the few leading venues that's transforming Brisbane's alley ways into a more livelier place; this one in Burnett Lane. Trekking down the alleyway, we were greeted with faux grass, a hip scooter, and seats scattered around. But this was for those waiting for the expresso on the go. We walked inside, and we're met with a place decked out in wood. It felt very secretive, so demure, and retro. After perusing the menu on the clip boards, I chose the Bigger Breakfast with OJ, and my friend had the poached eggs on toast with rocket salad
Brew is one of the many not-so-new restaurants in Brisbane Burnette Lane, what seems to be continue to be all the rage for city-goers. This basement café is a great place to hide away from bad weather and eat some amazing and amazingly cheap food on your break. The sandwiches are all classics and done well, my picks are the turkey with cranberry sauce and roast beef. But my favourite lunch option here is the avocado and halumi salad. Price: all under $10. Brew – Lower Burnett Lane, Brisbane, QLD 4000 – http://brewgroup.com.au/
Their breakfast menu isn't extensive, but every item is affordable and the food tasted - well, honest. Our favourite is the huevos rancheros w/ mexican style beans, tortilla, poached egg & sour cream ($14). The size is generous and the flavours are mouthwatering.
I think Brew is a great place to hang out for a Saturday breakfast session and it may have been overlooked by a lot of people as a breakfast option.
We visited Brew for a quick hot beverage in the middle of a city shopping trip last year, but up until just recently, hadn’t sampled any of their food. Brew is a small basement space located at the end of Burnett Lane in the city, and upon entering is full of surprises. The coffee counter out the front extends to a bar and seated area inside, a narrow space, but it all works and is pretty dark and funky.
Sometimes the perfect option for most important meal of the day is as simple as golden buttery toast with spreads and a milky coffee.
Brew is a great spot to stop by for food and drink any time of the day. It has a charm that's often missing in Brisbane food establishments. I would term this factor 'Melbournian' since Melbourne cafes do it so well. The space is trendy but relaxed and I would love to see what it's like for late night drinks and tapas.
The breakfast menu won't win any awards for innovative variety, but that's fine with me, as all I wanted was some eggs.
Eat Drink And Be Kerry
+4.5
They say you learn something every day and today I learned that Burnett Lane has another side. Lived in Brisbane all my life and it's taken me until now to discover this. Granted until Brew opened this part of the lane was probably no more than a car park entry and underground storage area and it doesn't look much different now except it is home to a decidedly funky little cafe and bar that reeks Melbourne. Looks can be deceiving and at first glance all you see is the small cafe bar at the front with the increasingly common milk crate seats. But behind the coffee machine lurks an underground catacomb of cafe/bar delight. The lighting is moody, the furniture distressed but comfy and the menu simple but eminently tasty. Look for this new organic and sustainable yoghurt, five:am, in Woolies and speciality stores. Oh and the coffee is seriously good. If you are in to something new and different this is definitely the place for you. It's certainly a refreshing change to normal city offering
