Review Newstead Brewing Co - Brisbane

Fran Cormack
We called in for a cheeky drink on a Sunday afternoon. A great range of beers available in a large space which has the good feel of most breweries.

Nathan (working at the airport bar on Sunday 10/7/22) was awesome. Lovely bloke, and went above and beyond with his service after I buggered up and spilled a bit of beer on my bag (my bad). All of the team were awesome, but tonight the choccies (aka the man of the match) definitely goes to Nathan - whatever wage he’s on, I highly recommend you up it asap so talent like him doesn’t get poached! Thanks so much Newstead Team, I had a LOT of time to burn before my flight, but it flew by (with great service and delicious beers)!
Nigel
Awesome brewery with some great tasting beers, look forward to going back to sample some of the food

The environment is really nice, the architecture makes up wooden tables and barrels, there are also cylinders producing beer in the place which makes it a little rustic. The beers are wonderful, one tastier than the other. I tried some and chose a double ipa, I advise anyone to know Newstead.

Bloody good feed for both kids and adults. Staff were so accomodating and the food was top notch! If you’re going to get stuck in airport land you’ll want to grab yourself a stool or table this place.

Great beers and even greater food! Seriously, I have never had a brewery meal this good before! 10/10 beer 11/10 food! Only down side - not wheelchair friendly.
Bojan Kovacevic
Amazing craft brewery that is certainly worth a visit! Big warehouse with dark wood sets the vibe, while the friendly staff help to guide your drink choices through the multitude of offerings. Food on offer is delicious as well. Place gets packed so make sure to get in early to get a seat and enjoy your time tasting your way through their offerings!

Great vibe, location, staff, beer and pub food. The hand cut chips was really good. Craft beer selection is great. We enjoyed our time there.
Ray Sparkles
Great ambience and very chill vibe most of the time. Great beers and ciders on tap that will suit every palate. A few great vegan options on the menu. Can get overly crowded, hot, and super noisy some nights.

Came here with the family for a lazy lunch looking for some amazing beers. The staff here are very accommodating. They ensured we picked the right beer. Taste test before you purchase indicates a brewery is genuinely interested their customers getting the right beer. Their menu was perfect. Great selection and choices. No kids menu though. We ordered their chicken pizza and cheese burger. Both very nice and full of flavour. Overall a lovely lunch at the brewery.

My friend had a gift certificate for the Newstead Brewing Co so a couple of us went for dinner and drinks there and it was a great little spot. As a proper brewery it brings people wanting a great beer or cider and even though I am not very into beer or cider I enjoyed the cider I ordered and it was in a large glass that was more than enough for me. <br/><br/>We also ordered a vegan cheese platter, these vegan mushrooms and some bread with a vegan mix on top as my friend is vegan and was excited to try their food. We all enjoyed the food and never having a vegan cheese platter I found the flavours pretty enjoyable even though of course it was different and the cheeses had a different texture. <br/><br/>It’s also just a great relaxed atmosphere and the servers at the bar were great with conversation and good for asking questions about the drinks there as well as giving tasting of ones you weren’t sure about before ordering.

Me and my 3 friends went to this place after bon jovi concert to have some drinks. While ordering drinks at the bar my friend forgot to say "please" to the waitress therefore she got upset.(may be she was tired serving all day or something) After 15 minutes security comes to our table saying that we are swearing therefore they got complaints from other tables etc. which we weren't as we were talking about netflix etc. but we apologised to all tables nearby and sat down. As the security was about to walk away. The manager comes in and says he won't tolerate rude behaviour against staff so we need to leave. We were like "WTF" what happened. He wouldn't explain and just kicked us out because we were all indians. We paid $85 dollars for drinks and didn't even get to consume any of it without refund or an explanation. <br/>So please be careful with this place. thanks

Went here for Friday night pre-dinner drinks with friends. It was busy and bustling with conversations, laughs and music.<br/><br/>We found a table and ordered beers, as well as the haloumi bites and rustic fries to share.<br/>Good selection of drinks available.<br/>The fries and haloumi bites were well-cooked and crispy.<br/><br/>Casual ambience. Friendly and efficient service. Reasonably priced.<br/><br/>Overall, a good casual Friday night out with friends in an unpretentious microbrewery with excellent local beers.
Rob
I like the atmosphere. Food is ok and their beers are bit hit and miss with nothing I really love. Wouldn't say no to Friday evening drinks here.
Kyle Jones
Beer was good, the pricing and seating is wha you would expect in the area. <br/>The beer was quite nice, however felt it very similar to other locally brewed craft beers in flavour.
Aaron O
Attended a 4 course with beers dinner here recently. Everything was absolutely delicious. Lamb, pork, goat, beef- all so tender and with succulent sauces. There was also indulgent cheeses with each course and of course great beers.
Alison Read
Lots of beers and interesting beer making activities going on in this place. Sit at tables, bar or at bench looking out over the street. Good value lunch of cous cous, veges and chicken kebabs. Was $10 and teamed with a drink it hit the spot in between classes today. Will go back another day when I have more time to relax and try more off the menu.

If you do not drink and you are only tagging with your mates and looking for something to eat try the sweet potato chips with Aioli. Please avoid the buffalo wings!<br/>Overall good ambience and a good place to hang out.

Was highly recommended by multiple friends- and I can see why.<br/><br/>The range of beers, wines and other alcohol is extensive. More on the expensive side, but not too overpriced. Tried multiple times to call and book a table, but staff never picked up the phone (from about midday to 6pm when we arrived). However staff were very accommodating when trying to push some tables together, so that was helpful.<br/><br/>Food is great. The sweet potato chips were the best ive ever had. Only problem was that they are served with chicken salt, which is made using chicken fats- not vegetarian. If this establishment wishes to call itself vegetarian-friendly, then more attention to these details must be made. <br/>The wings seem like the most popular thing there, but everything brought out of the kitchen looks amazing for the price. Everyone in my party were very happy with their meals.<br/><br/>Aside from those two small issues, the Newstead Brewing Co. Is a place I'd visit again. With just a bit more work from the staff, I'd consider this place my regular if I were a local. You should give it a go too.
Rob H
I love Newstead Brewing Co. The reason I love it is quite simple. Every time I visit it provides "The Trifecta". The Trifecta to me is quite simple - Good food, good drinks and a good atmosphere. If you're visiting Newstead with a large group of friends, I'd definitely recommend the Sweet Potato Chips, Cheese Platter and Wings.
DianaW
I was with friends who decided they wanted to sample beer here! Not my personal beverage of choice but I tagged along & actually sampled the coffee. It is one of my favorites (Toby's Estate) & was made very well with good strength. I enjoyed the cosy interior with all the  wood & barrels reminded me of an English Pub
Ella
Been here twice now and the sweet potato chips simply never disappoint! Great selection of beer and a pint of the pale ale goes down like a charm. <br/>Only downside is finding a table on a Friday night - the place is packed and there is no reason to wonder why. Such a groovy and eccentric place, well done to the technician who installed the ducted air conditioning, a great vibe having it all exposed!<br/>Definitely recommend for a date night or just a meal out with family!

Fantastic food, atmosphere and service for very good price. Hidden away in Newstead which also adds to the appeals. Highly recommend the pizzas. Thank you for a lovely night with friends.
Absolute Vy
Very good selection of beers as it should be. Good and quick service. <br/><br/>I ordered the duck with pears and it was good to every mouthful. Visit again? Perhaps :)
Lifelovetravelfood
Let me start by saying this place has the BEST sweet potato chips ever!! They were SO good! We came here as a big group and everyone (except the pregnant ones) really enjoyed the beers. Good pizzas plus others enjoyed buffalo chicken wings and pork belly. Everyone was really happy with the food. Great atmosphere and efficient service. I'll be back when I'm not pregnant to try the beers and have more sweet potato chips!

I rarely judge a restaurant based on one experience but I was so impressed about the whole package last night that I felt compelled about giving this place some credit. Staff was very helpful and caring, food was superb, simple, flavoursome, kitchen was clean and to top it up, the whole experience was conservative from a price structure point of view. We walked away with a smile and eager to try it again.
AnitaOnChi
Their onion rings are a must try! This is such a mixed purpose location - with half of it a pub/brewery, and the other half a perfect hang spot for two or even groups. Relaxed and casual. We like that!
Travis Braunack
Great atmosphere, good selection of beers as to be expected. Don't bother with the food, pizzas were awful. However we did get two orders of Chilli Fries, one was really good, the other not so good. Maybe we had a bad cook that day.

Great selection of beers - nice atmosphere, i like coming here on weeknights when its a little quieter. Favourite beer is the ipa, havent tried the food yet

Brewing Co Newstead. The food was delicious, a solid 10/10. As for the comments on the bogan blonde, well her ass was a 10/10 as well and she was quite friendly!!!

Went in on a Saturday night with a group of 10 . The place was full but the staff were awesome ! They dropped everything and pulled some tables together for us . The beer is the best I've had in Brisbane ! The atmosphere was amazing and the food was spot on ! But the best part of the night was sitting back with a beer and watching the fat chef with the mustache ( that looked like Mario ) get his dance on !! Haha great moves !! I highly recommend Newstead brewery !!

Excellent Food, Wine and Service. 4 of us had lunch here on the weekend. Apart from a slight bit of confusion with orders. Everything was perfect. When the Wait Staff realized that there was a problem with the timing of our orders., They came, apologized and gave us a round of free drinks and a complementary pizza to " tide" us over until all meals arrived. The staff were highly professional knew the food and wine that was on offer. We will definitely be going back. The food was perfection from the fish of the day to the fillet of beef and braised lamb. Well done all staff at Newstead Brewery.

Is a great beer environment place. If you are here for the beer and chill out with your mates, this is at his best =) <br/>wings are a little too dry from deep frying, but the sauce is amazingly hot, love it. Burger was great, i saw people ordering pizza too, might try that next time.
Travis
Beer and atmosphere great, food is average at best. Pizza very cheesy and soggy crust, the chilli cheese fries are good though.
FoodIsGood11
Great beer and food. My partner and I go here most weekends. Excellent beer on tap (the Newstead IPA, pale ale and seasonal ale are our favourites). The buffalo wings are delicious, similar to what you'd get in the States. Casual crowd, lots of beards, and a sports bar kind of vibe.
In It For Food
Enjoyed a lazy Sunday afternoon with family here for a birthday lunch and was not disappointed.  Started with two cheese platters and some great beer on tap and have found my new favourite smelly cheese!!! Deceptively sized cheeseboard thinking it won't be enough but a great size to taste and share with some drinks pre meals. We shared the jalapeño poppers and chicken wings! The jalapeño poppers were fantastic, made better with the fact that they were pickled jalapeños which was a great sour taste. Buffalo wings were fantastic especially with an addition of poppy seeds on them. Would have loved a bit more heat to them though! To end was the peanut butter caramel donuts which were much anticipated at our table! I think the anticipation was too much as these weren't great. The donut way too dense and not nearly enough caramel to accompany with only a subtle peanut butter taste - but still a nice end with a great coffee! Wil

The guys at Newstead Brewery are now serving a new side, attitude. <br/><br/>Pros: the beer was cold. Cons: so were the onion rings (and burnt). When I raised this with the waitress, she informed me that they came straight from the fryer. Meanwhile, I had seen them sitting on the counter for at least five minutes while the rest of our food was being prepared. On the subject of them being burnt, she told me that that's how they need to be made to get the batter crunchy... legit. After much back and forth, the dish was replaced and served hot and golden (not dark brown) the second time around. <br/><br/>The rest of the meals were a disappointment to say the least. The duck tacos reminded me of the tinned tuna and sweet chilli sauce combo that I lived on as a student and the burger resembled the grey lint that I'd pulled from the back of the dryer earlier in the evening. <br/><br/>In short, worst food and service experience I've had in Brisbane to date.

Best beer house/brewery in the area. This is a place you go to spend hours. Big selection, good food options to accompany the drinks. I give this place top marks.

Beers and service a hit. The section of beers, atmosphere, and knowledgable service were a hit for us on a busy weekend early evening. Worth the visit for that alone. The food for our party of four was across the board disappointing - just not the fresh hot greasy pub food we wanted. Will return for all the positives though - and NBCo has a reputation for decent food, so will sample again and re-review

Excellent. First time here. The interior was simple, but cosy. Group of four ordered sides to start; onion rings and sweet potato chips filled us up, but we chatted and had a few beers while we waited for mains. <br/>Two mains came out, followed shortly by the third. They then tried to deliver a pizza instead of a burger. Five mins later a waiter came trying to figure it out, and ended up giving him a free beer while he waited. But we couldn't complain about the quality of the food.

Keep it up. Really good food, really good beer, helpful bartenders, love the decor, love the music on a Saturday arvo. Waitstaff weirdly unhelpful, and exceptionally skilled at avoiding eye contact. Overall, love it (except for those below average waiters).

Wow Love this place, great for gatherings, meetup and place to try some nice tapers and beer! Good quality food with a unique decor and special vibe. I rate this place 7.5/10
Chopsuidaho
Tasty food and beer. I like how they have a mix of taps, half dedicated to their own stock and the other representing beers from around Australia. The food is good, I really like their jalapeno poppers.

First impressions. Myself & a few friends went for sat lunch , first impression disapointining , first barman was very unhelpful , seemed disinterested in helping us to pick a nice beer, after that one fault , beer ,food & service , was great , I would highly <br/>recommend it to anyone , lunchmans platter & buffalo wings , outstanding , amber ale the best beer ever tasted .<br/>becareful, beer is strong , enjoy.

Loved it. Loved the tasting plank of beers all made in house, very cool sitting next to the stills where they were brewed.

Great beer wings and pizza. .... Great beer wings and pizza.<br/><br/>Love this place even though you generally have to wait for a seat on the weekend as they don't take reservations for less than 6 people. Everything else is amazing. Can look past the not so friendly bartenders as everything you get is great ! Return frequently

Very welcoming. Love this place. Friendly staff and a great choice of food and drinks. You don't have to be a beer lover to enjoy - there's a great wine list as well. Recommend the cheese platter!

Didn't live up to the hype. With all the hype about this place, it's certainly overrated. Went last week with a few friends and to say we were disappointed about one this is being nice. Given it's a brewery but the alcohol-free drinks could do with some work. The food was lack-lustre and not sure if it's the cutlery or the crockery while you cut into your meat/ribs/chicken, the plate does a run on you making it near impossible to consume in the normal fashion. Not recommended. You'd be better spending your money elsewhere.
Foodie987
Don't bother. Insufficient patron parking<br/>slow food service<br/>overcooked food<br/><br/>not worth the money you pay

Friendly service, plenty of beers on tap to try-Loved there Barley wine brew! Cool warehouse venue-will def be back!

Taps run dry. They serve the best beer in Australia, namely their IPA. But they keep running out of it. Despite assurances from the bar staff that this wouldnt happen again "as we now brew offsite" it seems to be a recurring problem. One day I fell for the sales pitch of "would ypou like one of these instead?" only to be slugged $13 for the pleasure of trying the alternative.<br/><br/><br/>-----05 Jun, 2014-----<br/><br/>Very disappointing!. Drop in for a beer, open 7 days a week the website says. So I did just that, and it was closed for a private function. So is this place now turning into a private party venue? That really sucks guys

All I can say!! Is outstanding food... Seriously yum!

We ordered a round of undrinkable cocktails at $100 +. After we told the bartender they were terrible he said 'yes, it's like drinking paint thinner'. It would have been nice to know this at the time they were ordered. Not one of us could drink them, bar would not replace them. We ordered another round of a different but mediocre cocktail at full price. I will NEVER order cocktails here again.

Great place. Enjoy having lunch here. Great atmosphere, awesome service ! Good beer

Lazy Friday lunch. My wife and I went along on Friday for a lazy lunch, just the two of us. The room was buzzing from what seemed like lots of well dressed locals and regulars. As it was a hot day, my wife really enjoyed the ice cold cider, and so did I. Service was swift and friendly. Plenty of smiles and no fuss. She had lamb pie and I had the steak, both done to perfection and beautifully flavoursome. Will be going back for sure. Lots of atmosphere and a world of choice. Well done!

Excellent food excellent beer - really well done !

Best Brew Pub in Town. Finally, an american style brew pub that stands up to what's available in North America. The Newstead beers are fantastic, and they do a great job filling out the rest of the taps with beers from around Australia. Had a great time ordering paddles with friends (a mere $12 for 4 150mL tasting glasses) and getting to try everything on tap. They had a session ale that was brilliant, and the porter and black IPA were both quite nice. <br/><br/>The wine by the glass also blew me away. Many 15-20 year old wines available for $8 per 1/2 glass and $15 per glass.<br/><br/>Haven't tried the food yet, as it's hard for me not to sneak over to Tippler's Tap for wings and sliders, but will try some next time.<br/><br/>My new favourite pub/bar/microbrewery.
Jeremy Smith
FINALLY - U GOT IT RIGHT!. FINALLY, a local brewery that got it right! <br/><br/>Cold beer (Green Beacon's beer is warm), real food (Tippler's Tap food is garbage), and a venue that has had a fantastic makeover (not a tent like Tippler's), makes it a NO BRAINER as the BEST BREW HOUSE is Brisbane..<br/><br/>From the moment you enter, you can see that someone thought about the layout, as it is spacious, organic, and entertaining to look at. The stylish huge ceiling fans are not only practicable, but really look the part. The seating is excellent, the kitchen looks great, and the boys behind the bar offer you a friendly smile.<br/><br/>I noticed they have a huge sliding video screen (was not on at lunch), and great music in the background...<br/><br/>Sample beers, 4 for $12 was excellent, and the guys took the time to explain each beer for sale...<br/><br/>The only thing I would suggest is an ashtray out the front somewhere for us smokers,,,,,<br/><br/>WELL WORTH A VISIT!
Sophie
The food is fantastic and the beer even better. I went in with my parents for dinner and had a great night. We ate from the pizza and snacks menu and service was prompt and food amazing. My dad got to talking to one of the staff (Jared??) about beer and was very happy to be able to speak to someone friendly and that was quite knowledgeable. I'll be back and I'm sure my parents will be too

I have mixed feelings on the place. The cider and the general vibe was certainly good. However the lighting is bad (spot lights in the ceiling shine straight in your eyes). Food was well priced but average... Pizza needed more cooking - was soggy but tasty and the pesto on the dip platter was brown. Would have told the waitress if she'd bother to ask how our meals were.

Wish I lived closer. Best cider in Brisbane - no wait - Australia I have tasted - not too sweet with a beautiful clean finish. Partner loves the Johnno. We love the story behind each and every beer and how Brisbane is celebrated as a city. Staff are awesome and food is delish. I am happy to be seen in an elasticised waist for the comfort food and beers here. The sacrifices one has to make! Looking for award to many great times and memories to be had here.
Sambo
Nice beer. Great atmosphere. Food looks excellent, will have to come back and have a meal here.

It's very good. Had the ribs, wings and gratin. the ribs were super tender and very tasty. perhaps a little bit too much fat in the meat, but it was very easy to eat around and the fall-off-the-bone quality meat more than made up for it. a surprisingly big serving for the price and great coleslaw comes with it. the gratin was super tasty, although some of the potato slices were a little undercooked. but very creamy, a generous portion (it was almost a main!) and a tasty cheesy crust on top. and i left the buffalo wings until last...... because they are the best buffalo wings i have had in brisbane. quality chicken, fantastic spice rub and tossed in a really really really good blue cheese sauce. i was very impressed with the food... great quality and fairly priced... and i just came to visit for the beers, not the food! this is not urbanpint, but so no beer reviews, but the beers are pretty damn good. maybe not as good as some other local breweries, but still damn good quality beer. this place is going to be very popular.
Table For 3 Thanks
From the street all you see is a roller garage door lifted high and wonder if you are at the right place. Once inside it becomes clear, this is somewhere I could spend a very long afternoon. The whole operation takes up one small former warehouse in a previously very dreary area that is now the über cool Gasworks precinct at Newstead.   The are 12 beers on tap – 8 of which are their own.  Anthony in a moment of wisdom asked that bar tender “What is the deal with the tasting paddles” to which the reply came – “we fill them with beer and then you drink it”.  So, with those logistics sorted out, we decided to get proceedings started. All of the beers are true to style.  The Golden Ale was probably my pick of the bunch, while Anthony is an IPA man.  They also so a cider and a midstrength session beer. The food menu is packed full of things I wanted to try (tasting board, buffalo wings, beer sticks etc) but we were already on our way towards full bellies from the beer and hot chips! A quick peruse of the menu sent me into a head spin – they do a Cuban Sanga.   There are not many laws I wouldn’t break to get my hands on a juicy Cubano – so this was a must.  It came out dripping with pork juices, chesse and flavour.  This is the sandwich I have been dreaming of.  The only improvement would be perhaps if the bread was a little more toasted. We also had a Jerk Chicken Pizza that was packed with flavour, soft bread base, and to Coopers delight – super stretchy cheese.  Be warned – all the portions here are very filling!! The geniuses here also offer a take home flagon they can fill from any of the draught taps with a special hose. At 1.9 litres it makes a good traveller! All the meals were super tasty and the beers nice and fresh. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

This is our where to eat and drink guide to Brisbane; incomplete and personally biased for the sort of food we like and what we consider to be ‘value for money’. We have decided to divide our restaurant preferences into occasions rather than areas. We find that generally, where you go depends as much on the reason as the suburb. You have favourite places for family dinner, for Sunday afternoon drinks and Wednesday morning breakfasts and you are happy to travel to get to them. If you want a complete guide for where to eat in Brisbane by price or suburb, visit Urbanspoon . You can read our Urbanspoon reviews as well. We hope you enjoy our recommendations as much as we do. Good anytime Foxy Bean, Wooloongabba – can’t say a bad thing about this place seeing as it was Birgit’s wedding venue, but it is good for any meal of the day. Kettle and Tin, Paddington – popular from brunch through to Tuesday trivia and birthday parties, it’s hard to go wrong at Kettle and Tin. Hoo Ha Bar, South Brisba

We grabbed the vintage cheese stuffed jalapeño poppers, a margarita pizza, beetroot and goats cheese salad and delicious sweet potato fries to share. We totally over ordered for two, but enjoyed as much as we could fit in! The sweet potato fries are a must. The beer list is long. Service is friendly. The vibe was great. 85 Doggett Street, Newstead

Hot on the heels of the Polar Vortex, I bring you the Liquid Amber Vortex. I'm not quite sure what it is about Newstead and Tenneriffe but the area seems to be a magnet for micro breweries and craft beer pubs. Green Beacon Brewing and Tippler's Tap paved the way and now Newstead Brewing Co has arrived. Established, the tag line says 'Since Before The Flood'. A bus depot at one time, it has retained its 'garage chic' with exposed beams and tin roof, flaking paint on walls and the brew tanks perched on the edge of the maintenance pit. The week before Christmas, the joint was jumping. None of us had thought to book but that didn't stop the helpful bar staff from setting up a table for us in the loading dock. Order at the counter when you buy your drinks and they'll deliver to your table. There's a good selection of bar snacks, sandwiches and pizzas as well as some mains. I went for a Corn Beef Sanga ($13) and a schooner of Johnno Cider that was on tap. A welcome lunch on a hot day. The 's
