Review Va Bene - Brisbane

Winston Wong
When it feels like all your Christmases have come at once! // ‘Va bene’ means ‘it goes well’ in Italian, and my visit to Va Bene Ristorante Italiano certainly went very well indeed - I won a dining voucher thanks to a giveaway by @heybrisbane on Instagram, and booked in for a Friday night dinner, receiving some fine food and a few surprises along the way. Our order: * arancini, $12.50 - house-made with porcini mushrooms and asiago cheese * gnocchi al granchio, $27.50 - fresh crab meat, tomato, chili, garlic, white wine and parsley * risotto of the day, ~$33? - with prawn and asparagus (that wifey requested be changed to zucchini) * cannoli, $14.50 - traditional Italian pastry filled with whipped ricotta and chocolate We paid a bit extra on top of our voucher limit for the above order, which would’ve been plenty of food for our family, but we were also gifted some unexpected off-menu items on the house: * cannelloni with pumpkin and ricotta * panna cotta I enjoyed the opportunity to deviate a little from my typical Italian fare orders with the gnocchi and cannoli, but I have to say the cannelloni was my favourite dish of the night and the panna cotta capped off a delightful meal filled with warm hospitality and a very, very full and well satisfied stomach. Va Bene is tucked away inside the Ramada Brisbane Windsor, just off Lutwyche Rd. Featuring a mix of indoor and outdoor seating (in the picturesque courtyard), they also do takeaways and room service for Ramada guests. Both food and service are bellissimo! Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for authentic Italian cuisine and a va bene experience in the area.

One of the best hidden gems in Brisbane. Outstanding service and food! We had dinner here with some guests and they were really happy with the choice of the restaurant.

The service was good. Greeted with a smile. The steak was below the standard I expected for the price of around $40 price. I was cooked to my request but was a very thin slice of meat that would have been suitable for a higher end steak sandwich. The sides and sauce were flavourful.

Everything was really wonderful and good. Great food and so friendly ~!!

One of the few left. A traditional restaurant with great food like lamb rack, barramundi, salmon no tricky names or prices. Unpretentious and good.

Beautiful food and service, what else do you need. It's even cozy and a little romantic for those nights when you when get away from the kids.

Food was terrible. My partner and I went for dinner, sat down and my wine glass was dirty (had someone elses lip marks on it) The food had no flavour was not worth the money we paid for. Customer service was very poor, there were 3 other couples in there and the waitress had 2 two tables with dirty plates on them the whole time we were there and she didn't know what was on the menu. Will not be back after this dissappointing expereince.

Great food, good service and relaxing atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would eat here again without doubt.

Francesco and the staff couldn't be anymore welcoming. I booked a table for a joint birthday celebration and Francesco came over to say hello and made us a wonderful birthday treat. We can't wait to return again for the delicious food and great service.

The meal was perfect from the moment we were seated and finished with one of the most delicious Panna cottas I've had the pleasure of tasting. Highly recommend this restaurant. Loved sitting outside on one of the little verandahs to the sound of the water feature. Beautiful ambience.

Delicious meals, fabulous service and a beautiful atmosphere. Our meals were value for money, full of flavour, piping hot and came out very quickly. Our waitress Ellen was friendly and very accommodating especially toward our 2 small children. Thank you Va Bene! Compliments to the chef and staff. We'll definitely be back!

We have stayed at the Windsor International for the past 10 years and the quality of service we received from the restaurant and hotel staff has been amazing... Thank you

Came to the restaurant for dinner with quite a few family members, so I won't take into account the hour plus wait on most of the food. But the quality of the food was substandard. I personally order the Calamari Fritti and it was horrible. Had no flavour, all I could taste was the flour and it was quite dry. For $22 it was certainly not worth it. I would not come back.

Our meals were ok. We had a steak, carbonara and supremo pizza. These were standard prices, and taste matched price.

In addition to our meals, we were offered drinks. We had two scotch and dry each. We weren't offered a menu or warned about how expensive they were. The ale was from a bottle and tasted poor with the scotch - in a small cup with a lot of ice. We were charged separately for the alcohol and soft drink components. Upon looking at the receipt, we discovered we were charged $4.50 for the soft drink alone and a further $9.50 for one nip of alcohol.

We were also offered what we thought was a dessert menu but were brought out a tiramisu each. This was also fairly expensive for what it was.

After reviewing the receipt we went in to question the charges and were told that we couldn't be refunded because the till was closed.

I wouldn't recommend dining here, but if you do, make sure you clarify how much you are paying and what you are actually getting.

We were charged $208 total for three people and $82 alone for drinks. Dessert is not included on the receipt, and I don't know why.

Thoroughly impressed by the service and ambience, as well as the value for the price. As a vegetarian, they catered for me impressively well — they were happy to modify any item on the menu in order to make it vegetarian for me. Will return!

If like us, you’ve been lamenting Brisbane’s lack of decent pizza and pasta, look no further than Va Bene restaurant. Rave reviews from a Sicilian workmate led us to this unsung Italian delight, located across from busy Lutwyche Road in the Windsor Brisbane International Hotel. Our party of five (props for those who got this reference to the classic 90s TV show) was seated in the courtyard as the main restaurant was being used for a function, which we discovered was for a 15 year old’s birthday party.

Located inside the Brisbane International Hotel at Windsor, this hotel in-house restaurant delivers a great job. It provides a cosy vibe with very friendly service. Had dinner at this place last month with Entertainment Card and it was a busy full house night. Ordered the Gamberi all' aglio (Chilli Prawn in Hot Pot) and Carpaccio di Manzo (Beef fillet carpaccio) as entrees. Both entrees are over average in terms of the taste and freshness, particularly the baguette that accomplished with the prawn dish which is a perfect match. Mains of Angello Scottadito in Salsa Verde (Lamb Cutlets) and Strozzapreti Salsiccia e funfi in bianco (Short twisted pasta) came with a large portions. It was the first time that I had the twisted pasta, which definitely made me an unexpected decent experience. Again, both mains deserved a thumb-up. We reserved some rooms to share the dessert of Sfogliatella napoletana Neapolitan Cake, which again was our fresh trial of the same kind but I can tell you that no one should miss the chance to try that. It is great......

Nice surprise I must say!
Our pasta dishes were hot, fresh, tasty and - al dente!
The restaurant is small but it's nice and cozy.
Staff were nice and friendly too.
I would recommend this restaurant to others

Pre Theatre visit.. Fantastic food, great service, lovely atmosphere. This was our first visit but won't be our last. We had the Chicken Kiev, Crumbed Salmon & Crab Gnokke all three dishes were delicious and comments around the table "melted in your mouth". We will be back soon !!

The food was superb. Atmosphere very nice, service was excellent, the staff are all so helpful. The wine list has a good range. Looking forward to next time.

Was really excited to try this place out after the good reviews and rating it has. All I can say is I was incredibly disappointed. The menu was very limited, we got the barramundi which was grossly over priced for what you got and a pizza where the base wasn't cooked long enough and it was all soggy. The chicken was also disgusting and chewy.
Would love to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but my money is definitely better spent elsewhere. I won't be returning

My favourite Restaurant. This is a little gem. My husband and I come here for our birthdays and dinner dates more often than not. We love the food, staff and the atmosphere. Windsor motel is a lovely place for a night or weekend getaway without leaving Brisbane. When we say, shall we have dinner at "our"restaurant it is Va Bene.

Lovely. I had been to Va Bene once before and had to go back it was so good. Now it's a favourite in the area. Always been satisfied with the service, the atmosphere and the authentic Italian food. Great wine list, would recommended ordering pizza and pasta and an entree and tasting everything!

How to Va Bene. Step 1: Go to Va Bene
Step 2: Order gnocchi gorgonzol and attempt to lick plate in the most elegant way possible.
Step 3: Turn to the other person/people at your table and say "we need to come here again!".
Alternative Step 3: Go by yourself so other people don't try and eat your gnocchi when they realise you made the best choice possible.

This our favorite restaurant for special occasions Never been disappointed by the food or the selection. True Italian fare. Excellent.
You pay more but worth it.

Perfecto. Best Italian food I have tasted in a long long time! Try the Gnocchi or Gamberi if you feel like pasta or the Pepperoni or Va Bene special pizza!

Bellissimo!. Some Italian friends had recommended this place to us and we weren't let down. It was refreshing to eat authentic Italian where the ingredients were fresh, the flavours simple and the servings were generous. The tiramisu sticks in my mind and I recommend you share it with a friend because it's huge. Can't wait to go back.

I enjoyed my salmon very much! The breadcrumbed herb on my fillet was really good. The additional crunch to the perfectly cooked salmon was moreish... Even the Mr agreed.
