Review The Fishmonger's Wife - Brisbane

Joe Bryant
Just had to wait 2 hours for fish and chips. Absolutely never again. If you knew Easter Friday was going to be busy like most years then please be respectful and organise more staff. 2 hours is 💯 not acceptable. The saddest thing is that we never received an apology or anything else. How do you expect customers to want to come back with this level of service? Update: your response below is so unprofessional you have now lost a local family's business. As a business you're response for your customers satisfaction. A simple sorry when we picked up our meals would have sufficed. There were so many families waiting for their meals. Best of luck to you in the future. I really hope you learn from this.

Beautiful fish and calamari, the pack for 2 fed our little family of 4 , definitely will be back again 👌

Dine-in experience We had a wonderful dine in experience here - the seafood is cooked, seasoned and presented beautifully. We loved the salt, pepper & garlic calamari and the Tahitian lime & coconut marinated griller snapper was amazing. It is a little pricey - but it is a step up in quality from your average fish & chip shop. The staff here are super friendly and BYO for $3 per head is a bonus! 24 October 2019 Beautifully cooked fish & chips - nicey but pricey My husband and I dropped in for takeaway on a Sunday evening and ordered grilled salmon, crumbed barramundi (Japanese panko crumbs), chips and a green papaya salad. Everything was really delicious and the fish was cooked to perfection! The only reason I am marking it down is because it was expensive in relation to the size of the portions (small).

My first experience eating at the Fishmonger's Wife. We enjoyed the fact it's situated in the Hawthorne eatery hub but off busy Hawthorne Rd. On a winter's day we chose a warming sunny table location. My grilled snapper was very nice. Licensed venue also a bonus. Service was friendly and efficient. I'd definitely enjoy returning.

Regular customer, love the food so decided to book our elopement wedding there. Called and got a spot in the private function room. Emailed a few weeks later to follow up about menus and apparently my spot was ‘double booked’ and I was told I could no longer have it! Horrific dine in experience. Would not expect anything other then a walk in service from this place.
JP Archy
Despite them apologising for being short staffed, the service was still prompt and delicious! The atmosphere is casual and welcoming , we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and we also recommend the Calamari and Papaya Salad! Definitely a spot we will visit again and again

Fresh, Crispy, Tasty. 💥 Always a pleasure coming here for dine in or takeaway. Short and sweet because it meets your expectations for what you need in a good fish and chip shop.

Best fish & chips in town, and has gluten free option
Jill Witt
Awesome feed. The gluten free salt, pepper and garlic calamari, was divine. It was the tenderest calamari we've every eaten (and being my favourite thing I've eaten a lot of it). The gluten free menu was Quite extensive which was really nice to have choose between so many stunning dishes. The staff were courteous and very considerate. Service was amazing. Happily drive the hour it took to get there every night for tea. Can't wait wait to bring our friends back.

Heaven for Coeliacs. My go to takeaway choice. When being diagnosed as Coeliac I thought my fast food options were gone. Thanks to The Fishmonger's Wife I can grab a takeaway meal or dine in at the restaurant. The seafood is top quality, the chips excellent and the drinks options extensive. Everything I need and varying options depending on my craving. The salt & pepper calamari and flake take my pick as best buys.
Jaylene Raeanna Cleary
Very good about gluten free and food allergies, also a lot of option if you're gluten free. The calamari was amazing, but we all found the rest of the food to be quite bland.
Tony Thompson
A really nice find for us when visiting family nearby. A great place for people who can’t handle gluten (me), but just as good for those who can. The fish was very tender and flavoursome, with excellent chips. Other dishes were just as good for our party. Service was relaxed, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
Melanie Berge
Fantastic service, excellent gluten free menu and the best GF fish and chips I’ve ever had! Keep up the good work!!
Fleur Kenny
Excellent customer service, melt in your mouth Salt and Pepper Garlic Calamari made for two very happy people with Coeliacs! Staff patiently reassured little Miss 6 who repeatedly checked that her food was all gluten free. Love the new location and dine in area.
Renae Denyer
Food was delicious, very clean & kid friendly, so many gf option, the service was fantastic, staff were all happy & obliging, we will definitily recommend this cafe
Jac Horwill
Great new location but very overpriced. The snapper was delicious and highly recommended but at $14.95 a piece it should be. The flake my husband had was quite rubbery. They have a good selection on the menu and lots of healthy options if you don't mind paying top dollar.
Mary McSherry
We have been going to The Fishmongers Wife since it opened here 10 years ago. It is just across the toad from us so we are spoiled!!! The food is consistently very good quality. We also commend them for their excellent, friendly service at all times!! To dine in or take away, it is never disappointing, always top quality.......

First time at Fishmongers Wife. Found out they had just moved into Hawthorne premises on 13th March, lovely modern timber booths and tables. Whiting and Salmon was fabulous served with salad of choice from menu and chips were very fresh and crisp Our waiter was very personable and attentive. Will definately go again
Jane Gibson
Great gluten free batter as well as salt n pepper GF calamari and chips, and I don't have to eat GF. Delicious, thank you!
Kerry McKee
Loved it food delicious. My daughter is on a gluten free diet and is thrilled with the salt and pepper calamari and chips.
Carolyn Campbell
The best ever Gluten Free seafood I have tasted and the service is great.
Peter Grundy
Sensational fish and beer battered chips, and everything else on the menu we’ve tried!
Anca Vereen
Worst customer service in Brisbane. The older casheer was rude and unhelpful, food is overpriced and taste/ flavoured is overrated. Definitely don't recommend. Brush up on ur manners guys! Soo rude!!
Darren Duffield
Just bought some lunch from here and asked for $5 chips. Got home and opened bag to find chips barely enough for one person. Won't be back

Some of the best Fish & Chips in Brisbane. Always fresh, crumbed calamari is a must. Fish is ALWAYS FRESH, dining room is nice in their new location. Definitely be back.

Bit upmarket from your normal fish & chop shop, or a very casual restaurant. Either way, the food my wife and I had last night was very nice. I'm glad there is a deal on though (second meal half price) as it is a bit pricey. But, it is also a bit fancy and we did enjoy it.
Chinny
Food is below average, pricy, and minimal table service. Tried to give the business another go at their new location, but disappointed once again.

My lunch companion (master 4 yrs old) declared that he wanted “calamawi” and asked if I knew the Fishmongers Wife.<br/>I did.<br/>Plenty of street parking nearby, we arrived at around 11.45am (15 minutes before restaurant opening time).<br/>There’s a lovely clean rest room around the back so we used that, washed our hands and waited out front.<br/>The very friendly hostess greeted us warmly and invited us in. <br/>Cool, air conditioned and with simple comfortable furniture we settled into a corner table.<br/>Fantastic free activity pack was immediately provide to Master4, along with water and menus. I was asked if I needed the gluten free menu and almost fainted!!<br/>I did and there’s a great range of options.<br/>The hostess actually asks every table which is just wonderful and something I e never experienced an where else.<br/>Licenced but we stuck with water.<br/>Kids meals are proper food in smaller portions.<br/>My gluten free calamari were sensational.<br/>Chips were crunchy and freshly cooked.<br/>Fresh salad (part of the meal), served on a separate plate for easy sharing. <br/>Seafood beautifully cooked and served with a smile.<br/>Fantastic!
Sabrina
Came here upon recommendation from a colleague and decided to try it out after watching a movie with mates. It's definitely not your usual fish and chip shop as my friend said it's a bit higher than that with a venue on the side to dine in restaurant style. We ordered the specials for the day including a coconut Thai fish curry with rice, dukkha crusted salmon and coriander barra.<br/><br/>All had beautiful flavours including the curry albeit some bones and fish flakes needing to be pulled out from the curry. Food was definitely fresh and delicious, decor inside was warm and welcoming including staff members. Price wise was slightly high for the portion you received though.
Beck
I recommend their crumbed fish (Hoki) and chips! Very happy with the fish, tastes good and fresh. They have chicken salt to add on yourself.... <br/>However poor service every time I have been from the older guy and woman. Always disappointed by their service at front counter, just not very friendly. (Besides the young ones, they are much better). I'd give a much higher rating if it wasn't for the lack of friendly counter service.
Todd Petterwood
Not bad for a fish and chip fix<br/>Tried new location in Hawthorne<br/>Better set up than previous restaurant<br/>Salmon was way over cooked but everything else was good<br/>Friendly quick service at lunch time

Went this Easter Monday. Dined in.<br/><br/>Partner had the Dukkha Salmon, she said it was cooked well but seasoning maybe an acquired taste. I had the snapper with beer battered chips.  Chips were great. definitely will get takeaway.  Probably not on a public holiday or a weekend because of the surcharge!

FOOD = 3.5<br/>SERVICE = 3.5<br/>AMBIENCE = 3.5<br/><br/>Visite this place in its new location. A cosy place and great staff, welcome with a smile. The fish and other seafood is great here. Fresh ingredients and good choices. Good serves as well. Good presentation. A great thing abouy this place, is that it caters well for people with food intolerances really well. A little pricey overall, but great place to enjoy a good feed.<br/>
Tim
Just went in to get fish and chips, sorry no chips. 6.30 on a Sunday. Really. Pathetic. Had a yiros instead from somewhere else. No money for you!!!

We love this place. Fantastic atmosphere. It's so fresh and all the meals have been fantastic! We've dined in and had take away and have never been disappointed. The prices are fantastic and service is fabulous. Definitely recommend !

I'm one of those poor sods who lacks skills in digesting gluten, so it really excited me to hear about this place. I thought fish & chips were a long gone pipe dream for me but this place makes it happen. The gluten free batter on the fish is light, crisp and delicious, and the chips are pretty great as well. Go for the aioli dip, super garlicky and smooth, mmm!
Ella Kaaz
Awesome! Not only do they have genuine gluten free options (ie separated kitchen) but they gave our kids activity packs when we arrived to keep them busy until the food arrived. And when it did, wow!! Awesome meals, awesome service, great experience.
Natalie
We got take away fish, chips and salad. All I can say is yum, yum, yum! The perfect way to enjoy a Friday night. We added a beer with our meals which teamed perfectly with the fish.
Shezz84
The seafood here is extremely fresh. We had the lemon grass snapper and battered barra. I also liked the crispy beer battered fries. However, the servings are very small, given the price. The verdict? Unlikely to come again as I can get more fresh seafood elsewhere for less.
SpicyRamekin
As far as fish and chips go, this is one of the better places I have tried in Brisbane. We opted for the take out menu, but the restaurant actually looked quite nice for what you would expect at a fish and chip place. I was intrigued by the pre-marinated fish options on the menu, and as per a recommendation I tried the Tahitian Lime Coconut Cream Snapper, but found it to be a bit dry and lacklustre. However, I could not go past the beer-battered chips and scallops, and would revisit for these alone if I were in the area.
SweetRamekin
I was dragged to The Fishmonger's Wife mostly against my will after several months of my housemate's suggestions. We ordered the Tahitian lime and coconut snapper, battered cod, calamari rings and beer-battered chips. The cod, calamari and chips were good, but not greatly beyond my expectations. However the snapper had a delicious sweet and spicy flavour and great texture and I would definitely order it again. Although the prices are slightly above normal takeaways, I would definitely recommend The Fishmonger's Wife if you're looking to add some more flair to your usual fish and chips.
Patrick
We are regulars here and is a great place for fish and chips. Heaps of menu options and always quick service and tasty meals. The seafood baskets are great and will no doubt be back here again
Satiety Society
We tried Fishmonger's Wife for the first time tonight after driving past it for many years. We were surprised to find they had seating both indoors and out. As we hadn't dressed up we stayed outside. It was fully undercover and as it is at the back (not on Wynnum Rd side) there were no traffic fumes or noise. I ordered the wattleseed crumbed cod with Greek salad. I couldn't taste the wattleseed but it was a delicious meal and the salad was lovely (except for the raw onion but apparently some people like it). The meal came on proper plates and with proper cutlery too - always a bonus. <br/><br/>This place is more expensive than some other fish and chip shops but it does depend what you ordered. There were some great sounding marinated fish dishes but it was $25 for the fish, chips and salad and considering we were outside at a stainless steel table that did seem like too much but I'd be happy to pay this next time if we sit inside. As it was my cod and salad was $18.85. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and service was fast. I look forward to returning and introducing others to this gem in the suburbs.
Brendan
Have ordered takeaway a few times here and have always been pleased with the meal and service. Crumbed seafood basket is really tasty. Would recommend to any fish n chip lover.
Phoenix
Some of the best fish and chips around! While more expensive than most fish and chip shops the quality is much higher. They do have lunch specials for $10 as well which is great.
Blank
I've tried this place a few times and have had good and bad food. They now serve you the chips in a chip basket. It does match the cafe. The staff are not the friendliest.
Femme Foodie
I've gotten take away from here a few times. The quality is always consistently good. This time, I ordered crumbed whiting with beer battered chips, a wedge of lemon and free sauce (2 small pots). I chose the aoli. The serving is generous. The fish came in smallish crumbed fillets (5 in total) which I thought was very good value. The chips were also a delight, especially when I added the aoli sauce.<br/><br/>The only reason I have rated this a 4 and not a 5 is I feel the price $17 for fish and chips is a bit on the steep side. That said, the beer battered chips were $1 extra. So, I guess if one wanted to save a bit of coin you could order the cheaper fish offerings. The whiting was kind of mid-range. And you could skip to beer battered chips and simply have regular chips.
Vanilla
Consistently YUM! Choose between grilled, crumbed or battered (includes GF option) plus a great range of marinated options like Tahitian coconut fish! Japanese beer battered chips come as a hefty portion in the Gourmet Pack. Best thing is a choice of fresh salads like a Thai green papaya, pumpkin & spinach & traditional Greek
AEM
I have had some of the best seafood I've had in Brisbane here! Not only do they do the typical crumbed or fried fish (which is delicious) they also do fresh seafoods such as their salmon patties, prawns and other yummy options. I have never had a bad meal and whenever I've eaten her service was relatively fast. Parking can be a bit tricky if it busy and some may struggle to find a park but it is certainly worth the search. There is both inside and outside seating options, but very clean with the odd occasion of nature intervening. All in all a great place to go to!
HotPotato
Had lunch here recently on a quiet weekday.  Bill for four was just over $90 with drinks, so not the cheapest fish and chips in town.  For a couple of us the fish also missed the mark.  My grilled moroccan barramundi was unappetisingly mushy (I would suspect having the fish sit in marinating sauce does no favours texture-wise) and a friend commented that her grilled barra was tough and dry.  Flavours also missed the spot for a few of us.  The beer battered chips were as good as everyone says and salads were perfectly decent.  Overall not a complete miss, but for the monies spent we left disappointed.
Anita Weiss Leone
Really like the chips and calamari here. The beer battered chips are definitely the way to go. Don't like the silver scales they leave on the fish though. Outlet is very busy despite being very overpriced. Parking is difficult. Be prepared to wait.
Laurais23
Bones. It's is a bit more expensive but that is ok as it is normally nice (even if it is a bit small). Today however there where bones in the whiting and the staff where very rude, I went in to pick up my order and the staff where having a conversation instead of serving which I wouldn't mind if my order wasn't sitting out getting cold, then when I rang them to let them know about the bones in the whiting they couldn't really care less and just wanted to get me off the phone. It will be a very long time before I go back or recommend it to anyone
Kerry Meredith
Hopelessly small meals and overpriced. Whiting fillets smaller than my chips. Small serves, big dollars. Wife's snitzel dried out. Staff non reactive.
Plehwe
Not for those on a budget. Totally overpriced - Fish53 offers better value (and menu).

Nice find for fish & chips. We have always enjoyed the quality of fish at The Fishmongers Wife. We went back recently after being away....and it's as good as ever. We always eat in, the other night we needed to take some fish and chips home for our daughter who couldn't join us due to study. Tim the waiter had everything under control on a rather busy Wednesday evening. Our take away came out just as we were ready to leave after a lovely barra and chips, MOH had barra, the beer battered chips and a fresh sweet potato and spinach salad. It's a little more expensive than some other places, but worth every cent for quality and such friendly prompt service!
Nick
Horrible fish, nice chips. Probably the worst fish I've had from a fish and chip shop in a long time, very disappointed. The chips were nice and the beer battered ones especially. The fish was in its skin and was brown meat. It looked like off cuts. Will not return.
Jtbcdog
We went here for dinner tonight with our coeliac daughter. We were impressed with the great gluten free food! The rest of us loved our non gluten free fish and chips as well, and the deserts were a great finish to the meal. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall it was a great dining experience.
ACM
Too expensive for what it is - it's a quaint little shop and has an ok feel to it, but the prices not justified.
Pankate
Too expensive for what it is! Uninterested, rude staff. Forgot our salad. Won't be back.
Sue.goldie2
Brilliant Funky Fish and Chip Cafe. This is not your standard fish and chips. This is the place for spending a few dollars more and actually getting fresh fish, not that dried up imported frozen stuff. They also have the best beer battered chips in Brisso. Casual dining at its best. Always busy. LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE GUYS!!
Theodore
A bit of a rip off I won't be going back
Tony Pham
Ordinary fish and chips at substantial high prices... Sunday surcharge 10%....what a joke!! Don't bother
Shenzo Gregorio
A tad pricey. There were two dishes on their menu that I absolutely loved till they changed them about a year ago. Pesto Barra and Dukkah Salmon. Both are no longer avail which is a shame cause both we're worth the price. now it feels a little over priced for just the salmon, which is still great, but missing that point of difference from other places that do salmon. The Beer battered chips, Sweet Potato Salad and Greek Salads are also amazing however it would be nice to have a little more given the price.
Derek Wilke
Good food. A bit cheeky charging a 10% surcharge on Sundays. Rather not open on a Sunday if thats the case.
Sera
May be a little overpriced but the fish and chips one of the best in brissy. Most of the fish n chips have the fishy taste from the skin but this one doesnt. Very nice beer battered chips. desserts are OK only too. But I have to add that service is AMAZING. :)
Lashez
Best Battered Barra In Brisbane. The food here is amazing I absolutely LOVE the battered barra it is cooked to perfection... it is rare to find a fish and chip shop that does not overcook its fish well look no further this place knows how to make seriously good food! Brilliant!
Allison
I frequent this place and have never had a bad experience both eat in and takeaway. Staff friendly, food lovely - cant complain though don't expect a cheap meal.
Colossus
Good fish and chips. Always delivers good quality fish and chips a level above the average fish and chip shop thus the slightly more expensive prices.<br/>Offers a good range of flavored fish options.
A M
Way overpriced!!!. The most expensive 140grams of fish I've paid for in my life. Cost me $19 and I'm still hungry! Not happy at all.
Kat
Overpriced fish and chips. Claim you're a gourmet fish and chip shop then sprinkle some extra herbs in your crumbs and voila you can charge a million bucks and it's all fine.
The Devourer Of Food
Yes it is a fish and chip shop not a 3 star Michelin restaurant. Meal portions are large, fish cooked well and variety are plenty. They serve more that the usual fare of fish ... things like wattleseed cod, coconut lime barra and teriyaki salmon, which is such a good spin yo the boring ole f&c. Not that there is anything wrong with the ole f&c. Sure you pay a few extra moolah for it but it is worth it to eat well and enjoy something a bit more than the average. Also try the sticky date pudding that ... definitely worth getting diabetes for ...
Bean Round
Lucky Wife. Love it here for an early Sunday night dinner - fish quality is impeccable, great chips, beautiful Greek salad and loads of options. Possibly on pricey side but they are allowed to do that when it is this good. Also cater well for kids with food and providing drawing stuff etc - staff very friendly
Fifi
Delicious Fish and Chips. I really enjoyed my visit to the Fishmonger's Wife and will certainly be returning, especially to indulge in the delicious and perfectly cooked Salt, Pepper & Garlic Calamari. I have read a few reviews that complain about the price of the food at this cafe, however I personally do not think my visit was a costly experience at all, especially considering the high quality of the seafood I was served. <br/>Food: 7.5 / 10<br/>Service: 7/ 10<br/>Ambience: 6/ 10
Greengrocer
Just had an awesome crumbed fish burger and ginger beers
Ell
Mediocre. My boyfriend and I got takeaway from here last night. I think we may have set our expectations a bit too high. Our fish, calamari and beer battered chips were fine but definitely nothing special and not the best we have had, especially for the price. Service was fast and friendly, although they left out the aioli we ordered (easy mistake to make but annoying nonetheless).
Simon
Take away terrible. Seafood Tasted like floury panko crumbs soaked in oil. Chicken schnitzel was just a chunk a chicken breast crumbed and deep fried, chips big chunky ands soggy. Never again.
Bon Appetit
I like what they are trying to do here but unfortunately I just can't get into the taste of their food that much. Good that they are shaking things up... Just wish it tasted better. Too greasy.
DianaW
Diana. Love the fish & chips here but a little pricey for smallish portions I thought
Bobby
Not too shabby. Listening to the tourist blurb you could be forgiven for thinking that you will find good local seafood in Brisbane. Nothing coud be further from the truth. awful frozen imported cardboard, charging for little plastic tubs of sauce, extortion at the till, no service, plastic knives and forks, should I go on....<br/><br/>Well the GOOD news is the fishmonger's wife is not one of the above. Most of the seafood is fresh (frozen imports are identified), battered chips may not be best for my health but sure taste good, also interesting use of bush tucker. A bit over-priced but they are on the right track. Can't recall what the corkage charge is.
Shook84
Good. Nicest fish and chips place I have found so far
Sparkles
Delicious. I love fishmongers wife. The food is amazing the garlic salt and pepper calamari melts in your mouth. It is a bit exy for what you get. But its really good food and I would highly recommend it.
Miguel B.
Great stuff. We love that place, My Wife and I eat there quiet often and so far it has been always a winner. Service is friendly and fast, Food is great and the prices fair. Sure you can find a cheaper feed in Brisbane but not of this Quality. Keep up the good work. A Fan.
Figero
Yum!!. After reading the last couple of reviews, I was a bit worried when the bf suggested we eat here. However I was very pleasantly surprised! we shared the Lemongrass Snapper, Teryiaki Salmon, some chips, and some calamari. It was a huge feed, all up came to about $50. At $25 each, it seemed like fair value to me. The fresh was very fresh, the lemongrass quite a zingy flavour. Calamari was very tender. You get what you pay for, so if you want fresh aussie fish pay extra and come here.
Kirsty
Very very disappointed. This place is extremely overrated and expensive for very small underwhelming meals. Got 2 meals of grilled barra with chips and salad. Smallest pieces of fish, 1 very overcooked. We saw whilst waiting for our meals a sign advertising they did the best chips voted in 2011. Not sure who voted for them but they were soggy and unsalted. Lastly we got 1 Greek salad which was average and the sweet potato and spinach salad. However when we got home to eat our dinner saw that they had drenched the salad in sauce and put almonds in it. The salad wasn't like this in the window, it was added to it when putting in takeaway tubs. Anyway I'm allergic so that was just another disappointment. Do not recconend.
Sandy
Fishmongers is really taking a drumming on urbanspoon! I just don't get it, been having delicious battered cod and beer battered chips for less than $12 most weeks for the past few years and they haven't missed a beat in it being such a great tasty treat! In my world fishmongers rocks!!!
Kellie Overall
Probably the most over priced seafood I have ever seen. Fish was over cooked and chips were terrible. A big disappointment considering the reviews this place gets. Don't believe the hype.
Brizzz
Not too bad - a bit overpriced. Went here on the weekend for dinner. There is an outdoor and indoor restaurant dining area. The set up inside is nice, however it is very quiet, so you can hear everybody's conversation from around the room. Maybe some soft music could help here? <br/><br/>The menu contains a range of different fish. The local fish is very fresh. The only problem I found was that the price was a little expensive compared to other fish & chip restaurants. I know they call themselves a 'specialty' fish & chip show, but I don't think it's worth the price tag that comes with it.<br/><br/>The food itself was nice. Maybe a little too much batter for my liking. I had the seafood basket and the whiting fillets were very heavily coated in batter. The chips are nice, definately get them beer-battered.<br/><br/>Overall, not a bad little restaurant. I don't think I'll be back though, based on the price.
Luke
Have been going here for many years, great service with fantastic fresh seafood and unlike most places these guys state where the fish is sourced from. Make sure to order Australian fish as clearly stated on the menu, also get the beer battered chips. The home made sticky date is awesome too
Mikaila Darling
Overpriced and Overrated. I was disappointed with my meal from TFW, very disappointed. The chips were bland and cooked very poorly and my Barramundi(from Bali) cost me $13 and the fish tasted like dirt.
Neets
Overrated and overpriced. Upon entering the little fish n chip shop I noticed their awards for best fish n chips etc so i didn't think twice about paying the earth for the smallest "scoop" of chips more like "a handful" but when i ate them they were awful, over-seasoned and they tasted like they had been re-cooked. Not to mention they didn't sell pineapple rings, so not being a fish eater my small handful of not so great chips was a not so great experience.
Johnson Shea
Fish N Chips. Went with a group of friends on a thursday night and the fish was cooked really well. Honestly, though the chips were hot, fluffy and crispy. Heaven!
Sue Ridge
I just love this place staff are really friendly and food is always tasty, lemongrass snapper and beer batter chips yummmmm'
Jessica
Really Good.. Possibly the best fish and chips in Brisbane.
Kirsten
So overpriced and average. $51.60 for two pieces of salmon (asked for grilled & got battered - yuck), two small salads & a regular serve of S&P calimari....can't understand the accolades - won't be going back.
Jason
Victoria says:. We have been there once. It has won so many awards. You can get battered barramundi and flake. It's really good.
Ellen Pun
The beer-battered chips are the best!!
Auswade
Not a fan of their salads and the cooked food is kinda average too.
Bryan
I think this is definitely Brisbane's best Fish 'n Chips! The staff are great, the place is busy so the food is always fresh and quick turnover too. Try the lemongrass snapper + beer-battered chips or even the crispy skinned teriyaki salmon cooked to perfection. BYO and no corkage just seal the deal for a fast, tasty and affordable night out (or in)!
AnnaCoffee31
Best meals tried were the various ranges of fish with gluten free batter and pesto crumbed barramundi. For those who can handle garlic – the prawns are a highlight on the menu and packed with flavour. While I love dining at Fishmonger’s Wife (and will continue to enjoy their great food as a frequent visitor), the dining area is slightly small and there isn’t a comprehensive drinks menu compared to other Brisbane restaurants. However, it is a fish and chip shop and the food and service are well worth the visit.
FoodMeUpScotty
The Fishmonger's Wife (FMW) has been around for over 10 years and has had the reputation of being Brisbane's premier gourmet fish & chip location for much of this time. Looking at the awards that the FMW has won is quite impressive, with the awards presented with pride at the front counter. There are too many awards to mention them all in my blog as they started in 2003 and have happened pretty much every year since. I will however focus on a couple of more recent awards; 2009 winner of Crisco's best fish & chips in Australia; 2011 Brisbane Times best fish & chips in Brisbane & the 2012 Lifestyle Channel - I love food awards QLD - best seafood.
Toastty
The menu offers a variety of items, entrees are a plenty, as well as a variety of mains, from the usual servings of grilled, battered fish to something a bit more different (and flavoursome) such as the Chilli Octopus,  Salmon Patty, wild wattle seed cod and the  thai lemon grass snapper which we ordered. Out of the 2 entrees, the octopus was definitely the favourite. Twas very flavoursome and tender, however i thought the name was a little bit deceiving in that it had more o
