Seriously wow. The breakfast here is always amazing. Today’s breakfast is the best I’ve had anywhere for months. Sensational. I love the consistency and delivery, this is the best breakfast in Brisbane.
Every time I've eaten there has been an enjoyable experience. The staff are very professional but still retain a friendly, down - to - earth approach. They have been particularly helpful for me in regard to catering for my gluten free diet ( as I am coeliac). The food is always exceptional ....all up, I can highly recommend Harvey's
Service excellent, quality of food 100%, will strongly recommend this place
Cooke and Wilsom WA.
Great food, great selection of beverages and the staff were all attentive and friendly. To finish your night try a Dark & Stormy Mojito you won't be sorry.
Harveys quality of food, service and atmosphere never fails to impress. Love it!
Amazing food, fantastic service, beautiful atmosphere, impressive wine list. Harvey’s is a favourite for a reason!
Came in on a Wednesday night for dessert. Wanted a table inside but the busy bar guy says there's no table service inside otherwise we would have to wait for him to finish so he could serve us???
Anyway a lady who was attending to customers inside got us a table.
Staff attendants need to be a bit more aware. Had to wave my hands many times to catch their attention to take my order. Saw them attending diners very well outside, maybe if we sat outside it might have been different?
Got 3 desserts to share, loved it! Very refreshing with a good balance of fruit, crunch and sweetness, just the way I like it.
Nice place, great service and food arrived really quickly. (REALLY QUICK)
Ordered breakfast and the rosti was delicious and egg poached perfectly.
Check them out
Beautiful breakfast in a very calm outdoor setting. Excellent vegetarian options. Mushrooms with lentils and haloumi cheese dish is superb. Traveling In the area for 2 days and will be having breakfast here both days.
First time to Harvey’s- it’s been around quite a while and well known for their amazing breakfasts. Today I met two friends there for lunch. There was an event on so my two friends were running late. The staff were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I ordered drinks for the three of us while my dining companions searched for a car park.
Once at the table we all ordered- pasta and risotto as well as a salad. It was very warm outside so the aircon was welcome as was our proseco.
The service was quick and the meals were delicious. Special was linguini with crab and chilli in seafood bisque. The salad was lightly dressed and generously seasoned with cracked pepper and salt. The risotto was amazing- creamy yet not too stodgy- the prawns and corn were a great combination.
Will definitely be back- we dealt with about 5 staff members during our meal and all were fabulous esp Ebony.
Arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen closed but staff were very helpful. Amazing service! And the chicken pate entree and eye fillet main meals were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend

Cheeky Thursday night dinner, I am so glad that my work plans changed and I stayed in Brisbane for a few extra nights. What better way for Mel and Bec to celebrate but with a glass of Malbec (hahahahaha!) and a delicious meal! Pork belly was the first thing that popped out from the menu. And it didn't not disappoint! Harvey's is a classy and chilled out dinner venue that I would recommend to any guy looking to take a lucky lady out. Prices are reasonable, but every girl is worth it! 😉
Good luck getting served! Seriously there's 4 tables with people and there are 4 servers.
Ok that's over now we have a pot of tea and coffee. My colleague tells me the coffee is not bad and the tea is delightful.
I've ordered the seasonal fruit with honey and yogurt, it's nice, certainly fresh and the coconut slices are a nice touch.
The poached eggs on toast are great exactly how they should be, bacon might have been pretty cooked and is very oily, the toast is not toasted, however the spinach is superb and all in all the breakfast is good.
It's now 7.57am and the place is busy, the servers are really moving along. The meals that come out around us look fantastic.
Sit outside if you can, you get a sense of Bali out there with the décor.
Compliments to the servers who are only too happy to assist and make suggestions, having another pot of tea.
Ricotta buttermilk pancakes with caramelised banana with honeycomb butter (and smoked bacon) was delicious! Best pancakes I've had.
Would definitely go back.
The food is consistently good and the portions typical of this style of bistro. The seating is comfortable and the staff are efficient. There is one waiter who's manner is off-putting and who could easily offend because of his off-hand quips. Overall a good spot for a casual lunch amongst the gold sandal silk caftan set.
Fantastic breakfast, I had the pancakes with caramelized banana and bacon - lots of crispy bacon and thick pancakes with a generous sweet honeycomb butter. Also tried the beans which were spicy and delicious.
Nice spot for breakfast. Service was attentive and meals came out very fast. Coffee was great too. The potato rosti was pleasant and the poached egg cooked well. I got a side of Serrano ham and it was quite overpowering. Next time I'll get a side of bacon instead. The creamed sweet corn balanced the dish together with a very nice herb salsa.
Had a great breakfast with my team at Harvey's. The staff were super attentive and the food came out really quickly even though they were relatively busy. I'd definitely go back!
I always enjoy eating (and drinking) at Harvey's. The food and wine have been consistently good on my few visits. It's a great place for a long lunch with a group of friends.
Came here for breakfast yesterday. What a treat. I had the potato rostie with feta, poached egg and creamed corn. It was perfect, egg was cooked to perfection. Only issues was, we both ordered lattes, but I ordered with skinny milk, and when the server brought them to us he didn't know which was which, first world problem
Nice breakfast Beau Jangles. Poached eggs with grilled haloumi and sourdough bread - topped with tomato chutney and spinach. Delicious! Gorgeous atmosphere too.
Great atmosphere and perfect food presentation.and the COFFEE was served HOT! It's a shame I ordered something I ended up not enjoying as much because I had my eyes on the next table where they ordered wild mushrooms on toast with haloumi, but that's what happens when you try somewhere new. I'd definitely come back. Service staff were friendly, attentive and smiling. Compliments to the manager for having some good staff and system.
Can I just ask why, if they're going to serve breakfast at an establishment, why do they not serve it all day? Do they not know that I drank one and a half bottles of the second cheapest wine from a inner city pub last night and had to sleep til 9 then lay around in my pants for an hour watching reruns of The Love Boat? And therefore cannot possibly be expected to present for breakfast before 11 am? Do they not know!? Outrageous. And this is why we did not have breakfast at Gerards Bistro but instead made the perilous journey across the carpark driveway to Harveys Bar + Bistro. And you think I'm joking when I say it was perilous, but I'm not. Range Rover drivers think James Street is their personal Grand Theft Auto game and we're nothing but dispensable street walkers scurrying out of the way.
We stopped in here for some brekkie on the way to work mid-week. We hadn’t booked but managed to get a table despite it being busy. We were surprised how busy it was given it had only been open about 20mins.
Given everyone had probably more or less arrived at the same time, it didn’t take long for our coffees and food to arrive. Even if the food had taken longer, it would have been worth the wait! We had the spiced mince and the potato and feta roesti, both were excellent, the flavours were spot on, one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in Brisbane, if I had one criticism it would be that the poached eggs were soft rather than runny, but a minor point given how good it was.
Will definitely be back here to have breakfast again and to try the evening menu as well.
Awesome food!
Love their Asian Green salad! and the risotto is awesome too.
Nice atmosphere with lots of people.
Great service delicious food.
A great go to venue for couples, groups & occasions. Service is always the best with a good amount of banter from the long termers on the team. We took some friends from France in & their comments were that the steak quality, texture and flavour was something just not available in Europe. How lucky we are. Needless to say Harvey's may have become my new favourite steak restaurant, hmmm but don't get me started on Breakfast.
I quite like heading down to the Valley for brunch on a weekend and - goodness knows why - have just recently started giving a few places on James St a try. Of course there are so many to choose from, it's hard to pick sometimes, but a month or so back we ended up at Harvey's and it was a great choice.
I went with the potato roesti served with creamed corn and a poached egg and it was fantastic - what a great brunch, one of the best I've had in a while. The roesti was crisp and a very generous size with a perfectly soft poached egg perched on top. The creamed corn was yummmmm ... the perfect match to everythign else on the place. Hubby had the buttermilk hotcakes with caramelised banana and honeycomb butter - again delicious - I did snag a bit or two. Although he did find it quite sweet, but he's not much of a sweet tooth so that's no surprise. All washed down with nice piping hot well-made flat whites.
A definate winner!
After a disappointing experience at another restaurant nearby we went to Harvey's. Really happy we had a terrible experience at the other restaurant because the food at Harvey's was amazing. Gnocchi was the best I've had and lamb was also one of the best I've had. Great service too
Great place for a lazy brunch. Coffee is great and we often order a few rounds! Food is always to a very high quality and the staff are brilliant at giving suggestions of you don't know what to get.
Loved everything. Fabulously tasty well designed menu. Hot food. Great night sitting outside.
Great breakfast.....especially the pike lets and the bloody Mary's!
Service was excellent.
Definitely recommend
GREAT.... Went to Harvey's for dinner with my sisters. Had the Haloumi crumbed chicken schnitzel which was to die for! The service was attentive and good. Left feeling very full and satisfied!
Great food and great service. Had a fantastic dinner and drinks with the family last night. Fantastic service and the food was wonderful. Had a very fussy steak eater and he was delighted with the fillet steak.
Very fine food, spasmodic service. The five waiters that served us, after being hailed down, were very good, once we had their attention. Such a shame. The food, plating, location, ambiance, cutlery, are all amazing. Some extra professional staff and white table clothes and this would be hattable. Nice work Chef!
A favourite. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane. It has a lovely atmosphere. The staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgable about the food and wine. The menu regularly changes, but some popular dishes are always there. One of my favourites is the deep fried olives. Yum! I have been there a dozen times and the food is always excellent quality.
Good breakfast - tasty tortillas - parking tip. Dropped in for breakfast with K and little J. Tried the Spicy mince tortilla, coffee, and pikelets with banana.
All the above was good, although the mince was not described as spicy so if that is not to your liking, expect a kick.
As a side we also had the grilled haloumi and the lamb sausages. We felt the Haloumi was far too thick, and the lamb sausages where tasty and a big hit with our toddler son, but where too oily for a double tick from the adults.Personally I love tortilla and wraps - so i thick there could have been more tortilla to mop up with.
I noticed that several reviewers describe this place as over priced for breakfast, and although I understand their comments, I think most places that have great breakies are over priced, (with table service and a nice venue). So I suppose that is just a fact of life. Breakfast is definetley the cheapest meal to plate for any business, ingredients wise, no slabs of steak, venison or barramundi fillets to pay for - and sausages and eggs are pretty cheap. But I think it is like complaining about the cost of real estate -- no point complaining because as long people pay for it - businesses will charge those prices.
Tips:
Book ahead to get a table outside on a nice day, parking can be tough outside for breakfast and during the week - so just park over in the James Street market centre - do them a favour a drop in for some provision shopping on the way home. $$$$-JSM. High chairs are available and there a nice quite area to take toddlers on a small walk, whilst the other patrons enjoy their caffeine hits.
We popped in here for an early dinner with our 21month old son, we received friendly service & a high chair which was great. Nice presseco by the glass. We had the prawn risotto which was very tasty and well done. My son loved the fries and aolie! Prices were reasonable. Would go back if in the area again.
We wet for dinner and the food was excellent and service was really good. We went back to try breakfast the next day and had the best pikelets !!!! Great coffee too!!! Lovely outdoor table too.
Had a fabulous lunch here recently. Everything was delicious. Fish of the day, chicken salad, quail and prawn risotto were had and enjoyed by all!
BEST PANCAKES EVER. Breakfast. We ordered the banana pancakes and all I have to say is:
they were the best I have ever had.
Lovely service and breakfast. We enjoyed breakfast at Harvey's, our first time to try it. Everything was wonderful from the food to the service. We disagree that it is expensive, the quality and the service are there, so very reasonable.
We are looking forward to coming again.
Awesome location. Really love it here. Food is great.
Highly recommended. They kept the kitchen open at 9.45 on a Wednesday night then served the most amazing Asian salad followed by French cheese platter. A couple of boutique beers and coffee for $55 - awesome meal and great value and service!!
Nice outdoor setting. Stopped here for a vino and snack with some girlfriends last weekend. Pleasant service, lovely table outside in the sun and a plate of beautiful jamon! Would have returned for a full meal if we'd had time over our weekend.
Mmmmm... spiced mince :). Enjoyed a quick, but cheerful breakfast this morning. Service was unobtrusive and quick despite the restaurant being fairly full. Meals were above average across the board, and I may be biased, but my spiced mince with poached egg, avocado, and sour cream was the target of restaurant envy around the table. Yum!
Only downsides were first round of 'not so hot' coffees, and a croissant delivered cold. But a quick request to the kitchen sorted that out. Second round of coffees were great!
Great dinner!. Went for dinner and was skeptical after reading more than a few poor reviews. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic main! (entree and dessert had at separate locations for a bit of fun). Service was friendly and fast. The salmon dish was excellent, as was the prawn risotto. Absolutely no complaints.
I had an excellent lunch here again on Saturday with friends from out of town. Fresh food, good service and excellent wine. Harvey's is an excellent example of you get what you pay for and it is consistently good.
Good breakfast. Other than a little hiccup with the ordering at the beginning, everything was spot on after that. The omelette was delicious and the savory mince was delicately tasty. We will be back to try out the other offerings!
Enjoyable. I have had breakfast twice at Harvey's in the last two weeks and found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. The food was prompt and delicious and I will be definitely be back.
Great Breakfast. Had a lovely weekend breakfast at Harvey's. The 'pikelets' (I would call them hotcakes as they are huge!) were a serious breakfast especially with the mandatory bacon added. They were absolutely delicious as was the mince tortilla. Perfect amount of spice. It is nice to see some alternative to the boring, homogenised breakfast fare.
Staff were stretched as can be expected as the place was well and truly pumping at 9.30am on a Saturday morning but nothing too bad.
@Fat Lady. I quote: "Service is snooty but they earn a fraction of what I earn so I let it pass - probably the only the only time they get to push us around"
As a fellow foodie, I can honestly say that this is the most disgusting comment I have ever seen on Urbaspoon. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Food was delicious, service ok. Great menu choices and meal portions adequate.
Great food. I am a regular at Harvey's these days as they are one of the few places that actually serves "hot" food. Go across the road and you are guaranteed food congealing on the plate but at Harvey's they actually heat the plates and cook the food. Love their bacon and smoky baked beans. Muffins are also good. Hate eggs so thankful that there are eggless dishes.
Service is snooty but they earn a fraction of what I earn so I let it pass - probably the only the only time they get to push us around! But if the food wasn't good I wouldn't have a bar of it.
Great food and Attentive Staff. My husband and I went to Harveys on a busy Saturday night and the food and staff were BRILLIANT! We had made no booking yet we were seated after only waiting 5 minutes at the bar ()great bartender with good advice on the menu). The wait staff were very attentive and helpful. I am a very fussy eater, yet the Chef made time to come to our table and ask how I would like my meal prepared. My meal, sauteed local prawns and the Haloumi crumbed schnitzel were divine. I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Excellent coffee, service and food! We loved it, thank you :)
Loved it!!. For some reason I had never actually taken the opportunity to eat here and called in on Friday night without a booking and so pleased we did. Some of the very best food I have had in Brisbane for some time - everything on the menu appealed and the entree menu in particular was sensational - seafood risotto amazing! Also enjoyed the beautiful desserts. Service was prompt and friendly and I was very pleasantly suprised at the generous serving sizes and the prices considering the very high quality of the food. Thanks for a really lovely evening...we will be back!
Fine Food. Just lovely fine food, you can tell the ingredients are the best, the food is cooked beautifully and now with the new decor I love it even more.
We had breakfast the drink service was speedy an efficient. It took a little while for the meals but they were divine. I had the poached egg & rosti with creamed corn and my partner the grilled banana piklets. Downside the tables were small & you would struggle with drinks & meals on the table. Would go again
Nice dinner. Walked in on a busy Saturday night without reservations, we were greeted and seated straight away. Unlike other reviews, our service remained excellent throughout the meal. Mains were impeccable, nice fresh ingredients and reasonably priced as well. Shared dessert of soft merengue with passionfruit curd, macadamia ice cream and grilled peach was interesting, but ultimately the components didn't marry. Great cocktail list too and I loved their take on "Dark and Stormy" with lots of ginger and chili. Overall, a great bistro with no pretensions and would happily recommend to others for dinner.
2nd visit for dinner & just as good as last time. Nice atmosphere, attentive service and great food. Great wine list at reasonable price and interested / engaged staff - you don't need much more than that?
One of my favorite places in Brisbane for brekky, lunch or dinner. Superb quality produce with mostly healthy dishes (ease up fattys - there are some menu items that cater for you too). For brekky (worth booking a table to be safe), try the spiced mince tortilla or the poached eggs (add avocado). For lunch / dinner, get on the Asian salad or crumbed chicken. Brilliant ambience, spacious seating and reliable service make this outfit all class.
Fantastic B'fast. Had a great b'fast at Harvey's and the service was really friendly and efficient. The mushrooms with lentils was really tasty, will be back to work my way through the menu!
I had catering from this restaurant and it was amazing! Best catering in Brisbane.
Great brunch!. The ricotta-buttermilk pikelets with caramelised banana and honeycomb butter is delicious. Sitting outside is great on a beautiful day like today and we were not rushed by the staff as we ended up staying for 3.5 hours chatting. A beautiful location, friendly staff and great food!
Anniversary Dinner. Relaxed professional and exceptional food all led to a wonderful anniversary dinner. I had the gnocchi with chorizo to start followed by the lamb, just wonderful! Would highly recommend and will be back again for sure...
Coffee needs major improvement. Seems like a great little place to kick back for lunch. I found the breakfast pretty good although the potato rosti was tiny for the $17.90 price point. All other breakfasts looked generous. Sadly the coffee wasn't crash hot and has much room for improvement, even the macchiato was weak
Dear Spiced Mince Tortilla...I Love You. Harvey's is one of my favourite "go to" restaurants - regardless of whether I'm eating out for work or personal reasons.
Most trips have been for breakfast (the spiced mince tortilla is a highlight!), and the menu, service and coffee impress enough to warrant the half hour drive in morning traffic.
My most recent lunch of a jamon salad followed by gnocchi was a highlight, even better for the good selection of wine.
Finally, the location in James Street is great for people watching!
Excellent desserts. Great little place to make a sweet trip after watching a film late in the evening
If the service was commensurate with the food, this place would be ace. It's still great, but just needs some more attentive staff. And, if it had some linen, it could be hatted. How good does this little quail look. That was entree and we order a couple of dishes to share. Great colours and flavour. Dead cow perfectly cooked. Amazing textures presented here. The most succulent salmon I've had in some time. Amazing little salad. Yum!! Food incredible. Venue great. Maybe it was just an off day, but we had to waive our hands for attention at least three times. And that's just not cool. It wasn't busy, yet we had too demand service. There's at least one hat up for grabs with the plates they are rolling out here. Really beautiful, colourful, textured, layered, creative and tasty stuff! Pick up the service and, woohoo!!! The scores: Ambiance: 7/10 Service: 4/10 Food: 9/10 Wine: 8/10 White and silver: 6/10 Dunny: not required Total: 34/50
Our first course for the night was a tea smoked barnyard quail with corn, lemongrass and double chicken broth. The chicken broth was quite punchy and full of flavour that could possibly have taken over the subtle flavours of the tea smoked quail, but instead balanced out the flavours nicely. You could definitely get the smoky flavour of the quail and subtle hints of lemongrass.
The portions aren’t huge, so this is the perfect place if you don’t want to expand the pork belly on a nice, sunny day. My favourite breakfast here is the potato and feta rosti served with creamed corn (bet you won’t find that on any other breakfast plate around Brisbane!), herb pesto and a perfectly poached egg on top –breakfast bliss!
I'd only ever been to Harveys for breakfast before, and that was before PJ McMillan had taken over, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
