Review Lokal + Co - Brisbane

Mariana Askar
Me and my friend had the mushroom dish, beautiful, size is fair, you won’t be really full after, but everything (mushrooms, toast, pesto, egg) was yummy. That said, we ordered the banana dumpling dish, to share. It was very blend, nothing special about it. Coffee was beautiful and service was great.

Fantastic food! I came in here with my mate just to see what was up and it was so worth it! Absolutely banging meals, I had the Braised cauliflower with pepita satay sauce, tamarind pickles, bean sprout and herb salad. It was divine! I recommend coming here no matter the day of the week. Service was great too!!!

Reviews weren't wrong. This is the go to place for different breakfast combinations. Tasty as all hell. Coffee spot on and really cool vibe and atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Chilli scrambled eggs with a side of bacon absolutely knocked it out of the park. Well done!

Vastly improved since I last visited maybe five years ago. Well priced and with good portion sizes. Emphatically recommend the mushrooms on toast. Excuse the photo - I made a mess of the lovely presentation in my haste to pile up all the disparate elements. Coffee is definitely nothing to sniff at either. However, just like the vast majority of West End, avoid on the weekend unless you're a crowd enthusiast.

had brekky on a cool tuesday and we loved the cozy atmosphere. customer service is top notch and staff were super friendly! we got the chilli scramble with bacon on the side, a brioche breakfast roll and a large mocha. the chilli scramble was delicious. the eggs were scrambled to perfection. the prata served was soft and paired well with the the other elements. we added bacon on the side for this bc it can’t go wrong w that. the brioche breakfast roll was nice but pretty average. it is a burger despite being called a roll :/ also would’ve preferred if the spinach was cooked and the eggs a lil more runny.

While I was visiting Brisbane I really wanted to go to Lokal + Co and try their breakfast menu. I ordered the Leek and manchego cheese croquettes, grilled chorizo, black garlic, tomato, avocado, poached egg. I did an extra poached egg and sourdough toast as I was really hungry. I got to say that this was one of my favourite breakfasts, it was light and refreshing, and everything on the plate worked. I also would like to say they have an amazing coffee and they are using barista style oat milk which was great. I highly recommend you try this cafe out.

This quaint cafe is located in the popular suburb West End. They serve a variety of delicious foods for both brunch and dinners. I visited here with some friends. The employees were extremely welcoming and friendly. I loved the atmosphere and greenery inside the cafe. • chilli scrambled eggs • banana dumplings

Amazing coffee, very friendly staff and delicious food with very generous quantities and beautifully presented. Loved the atmosphere, very calming. The nordic minimalist decoration helps to feel cosy and comfortable there. Definitely coming back.

I have been to Lokal+Co for breakfast, coffee and dinner. Every time I have had wonderful service, an amazing experience and fresh, delicious food. I've had dinner-for-two and group dinners here and the staff have been friendly and accommodating every single time. This is honestly one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane and a hidden gem!

This place is awesome. I love the location and the design. The food. Well. It was my favourite breakfast in Brisbane! They had an amazing meal that most of my friends and I raved about. Gravlax with a fried something haha. I always looked forward to it. Then bam! They took it off the menu!! whyyyyyyyy. Ruined my universe. Here you go, here's a delicious meal. So delicous that we're never giving it to you again! Ill have to go and find another favourite now. Sad panda.

Been coming here on and off since it opened. The menu changes with the seasons but is always fresh and varied. They allow dogs outside (shaded area). The staff have been consistent since opening and are warm, welcoming and very professional.

Pleasant atmosphere, very cool music. Everything was new and clean. Food deserves very high marks. All plates arrived together each dish was strong with the chicken being my favorite. A great hire in the kitchen keep that one Service was good but too fast for the time. Look forward to returning to this excellent eatery

Great brekky & friendly service. Can highly recommend the sweet potato waffles & the banana dumplings. Makes me wish we could have brekky three times a day!

Great menu and great service. Nice layout, converted house in a back street of West End. Extensive drink menu. Vegetarian options and easily veganiized breakfast options. Will be back for dinner.

We went for dinner on Friday night. Great food - lovely flavours and clever combinations. Not over the top, and not reliant on 'tricks,' the dishes are beautifully fresh and vibrant. The scallops on cauliflower purée is my standout, although our table of 10 had a red hot go at trying everything be we loved it all.

We found this restaurant through the Entertainment Book and went with a group of 6 this morning for breakfast. Whilst the food was great & service was good, it was extremely disappointing to be told at the point of asking for our bill that they don't accept Entertainment Cards due to a dispute with the company. Whilst this may be the case, the fact that they are advertised in the book and receiving customers from this source would indicate that they should do the right thing and honour a commitment in the name of Customer Experience. If there are issues with the Entertainment Book group these should be sorted out separately and not impact on the customers who have attended in good faith. We had a group of 6 and a spend of close to $200 so a discount should have been provided in good faith. A poor management decision has turned a nice experience into a bad taste which could have been avoided and handled much better.

We had a delicious lentil dish for lunch today, my friend is vegetarian so it was nice to have a couple of options on the menu. We both want to replicate the dish at home! The service was faultless from both floor staff. I had been for brunch previously which was a hit with another friend of mine, who is quite discerning when it comes to restaurants having been an owner of a very popular place herself. A rather different menu from mainstream, with something for everyone. Slightly off the beaten track which is part of the appeal. I'll be back to share with more friends!

Every time I've been to Lokal + Co the food has been fab and the service convivial. The Spring wine dinner was particularly top notch and I'm hoping these become a regular occurrence. The food paired beautifully; I especially loved the oysters with their gorgeous dressing and the beautifully seasoned mackerel. And it was lovely to meet the friendly winemaker, Colin Forbes, and learn some new things about Aussie Rieslings.

We were excited to try this cafe and we were totally disappointed. The customer service was terrible and the communication between the kitchen and the wait staff was terrible. We were served our meals and the lentil dish was meant to come with a coconut sambol however the sambol wasn't even on the dish. When we asked the wait staff for the sambol all we were given was some toasted coconut. The chef came out to see us after we had asked the wait staff several times and he was not very friendly at all and didn't understand that his dish needed the sambol to add flavour. The waffles we got for $17.50 was very over priced and lacking in flavour. Once again ingredients were missing on the plate and the waffles were dry and needed some kind of syrup. It's a real shame as the set up is really nice however a lack of customer service and food that was below average means that we will not be returning, there are too many great cafes in Brisbane to return to this one were good customer service is seen as optional.

Beautiful cafe. Great food. Great service. Highly recommend the waffles for breakfast and the shredded chicken for lunch!

Totally disappointed!! I paid $35.80 for an omelette and a coffee which is way overpriced for what was on my plate. Definitely not worth the $$$
Rikki Grundell
Amazing! The food is excellent and the customer service is exceptional. Most interesting breakfast menu I've seen in a long time and cannot wait to checkout lunch and dinner options. I will definitely be back!

Great food & atmosphere, the owners are super nice, & they make an amazing vodka dirty martini 🍸🍸🍸 Will definitely be back

Loved everything about this funky cafe. Beautiful and friendly service both from front of house and from the chefs. The chefs were more than happy to amend anything on the menu to suit my gluten free and dairy free diet. The freshly squeezed juices are a must.

You must come & eat at Lokal & Co.... We had breakfast here this morning & must say the flavours are awesome, the coffee so good we had two! Will definitely be back!

Aug 2020. Went here for weekend brunch with the partner after making an online reservation via their website.
We ordered coffees, as well as leek and manchego cheese croquettes and the breakfast tagine. Coffees were smooth. The croquettes and tagine were simple but flavourful and well-portioned.
Friendly and efficient service. Casual ambience with outdoor and indoor seating available on a street away from the main hustle and bustle of the usual West End brunch scene. Reasonable prices.
Overall, a nice brunch option in West End.

Love the food and the vibes. Good coffee good service, definitely will come for a second time.

This cafe offers innovative breakfast dishes with a beautiful Nordic edge, served up in a sleek and spacious space tucked away from West End’s main streets.

Really like this place! Menu is a bit different but not too out there for it’s own good, coffee is decent and service is always warm and friendly. Yet another great local spot in the area.
James
Just brilliant. Visiting Brisbane for the weekend and couldn’t do better than to come here every time for breakfast. The croquettes are a must.

Wow! First things first.. Coffee amazing.. Beautifully crafted and luxurious. The menu features inventive and fresh dishes. The gravlax was beautiful and not too salty. It was accompanied with a fresh and unique salad of herbs and greens. The staff were warm, welcoming, and very attentive. The atmosphere was relaxing and beautiful. A gem of West end.

Had usual soy cap and zymil cap plus almond croissant. Everything was very clean and they had heaters around the place as well. Nice wooden floors and pet friendly. On a side street in West End.

Visited from interstate with a large group of friends. Every single dish that came out looked impeccable. Everyone was really impressed. Great drinks menu and very friendly service. Can’t wait to visit again next time I’m in Brissie! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Nutrition Is Medicine
I've been here twice and both times the food was amazing, and from a nutritionist perspective, this is important! i ordered the potato leek and salmon breakfast and loved it, served with a pickled salad it is fresh, good flavours and is healthy! i also ordered a coffee and fresh juice - great taste in both and fresh. I have to say it's good to see a healthy breakfast menu that's creative and yummy!

When I heard these were on offer at our local Nordic-inspired café, I was there faster than you can say blåbær. Lokal + Co at West End offers a very innovative menu which puts the old plate of bacon and eggs to shame. But does this creativity translate into deliciousness?. Let’s go and find out.

Amazing cafe! Been really missing Scandinavian food and cafes, and this one hits me in the all the right places. The decor is amazing and simple, the meals are all crafted and put together so wonderfully. The chef is very talented. Has such an amazing Scandinavian vibe. Keep up the good work! The only thing I would looooove is if you added a smørrebrød open sandwich to the menu with rye, gravlax, dill etc : )

The food was definitely not worth the money. The service is sub par especially with the blonde waitress we had. The server was nicer but overall we left with much to be desired.

TL;DR: A slice of Nordic beauty is awaiting those who are passing on through the suburban streets of West End, right here in a little Queenslander that fits into the rest of the street from a mere glance. With a keen eye for how to do customer service, a simple yet effective aesthetic, and something quite different and unusual in terms of fare - Scandinavian anyone - it is little wonder that so many have been enamoured by the charms of Lokal + Co.

This is one of the best finds within West End, and a big reason for this is how it is eclectic even by the standards of the famously bohemian part of town. Separated from the main drag of Boundary Street, it is really only a stone's throw away from it all but it feels almost several blocks away within the quiet side street of suburbia, and even when looking for it a sharp eye out is required to spot it. Blink and you will miss this place, which is something you don't want to do.

Lokal + Co comes across as a label of love, one that truly wants to impress, from the design of the place, to having something that is completely different from any other offering in the city limits - where else but here, right? - and how it all comes together lithely. It is well and truly a winner in my book, and definitely should be marked down as a must try.

Coming into the weekend once and again, the main query for the day was going to be "where to go for breakfast". This time around, my house mate had no idea having no quite thought ahead; but with that being said, I did have a couple of ideas from an old reliable place - West End - and from having this lot of trump cards in tow, the winning aspect was that it was going to be something different for breakfast. It had also been on the back-burner for a while, and with several winning aspects going for it - in West End, had been established as a favourite among locals, and was easily accessible. Well, the case is always better late than never, and with Lokal + Co what we have on our hands is another winner.

And by winner, that is not just words being minced right there. A good indication that a place is going to be good is that there is interest piqued by the waitstaff within a minute of you walking in the door, extra points when it is not phoned in. The young lady here immediately saw the two of us walking in, and beckoned us to take a seat of our choosing - inside or outside, with in the being the former as the choice. Right after that, she was bringing over the waters along with a bottle for refilling exactly like it was clockwork. That aspect about the water will always be going down as one of the most under-rated aspects of good customer service; it seems small and insignificant though in saying that it is an easy gesture and one that showcases attention to detail.

Outside of that aspect, during the main event of the service, it was all down to effective timing. Aside from getting a good time between seating and ordering the coffees, then subsequently the coffees and the food orders, it was one where attention was on full-force the entire time. People kept on coming in, lo and behold that it is popular and the waitress was paying due attention, and in addition to that, she was clearing the table progressively. Most of the time I have found that even with great service, they wait until the end of the meal when everybody has finished to clear the table - banquets and big orders not withstanding - but here, the plates and cups were getting taken away after the meals, drinks et al were completed. It would definitely be apparent that this is a good indication about how seriously they take customer service, because as it is so often said around here, it is down to the small touches and gestures, which add up due to the attention to detail - it does not get more honed in on attention to detail than this; this is due to the diligent manner, making sure it does not pile up too much, and simply gets the small tasks done and dusted in a timely manner. All of this was with a pleasant demeanour - one that was natural and made you feel welcome.

The atmosphere - contributed in part from the aforementioned service - is one that is homely, and so it should be. Taking an old Queenslander, it has been renovated and decked out akin to an IKEA shopping trip, with small touches that add up, though here it might appear a little sterile for some people. Still, it is clean and spacious - the size helping the ergonomics even more. Outside uses some astroturf and umbrellas, so diners can easily eat al fresco adding even more to both the aesthetic and atmosphere.

Depending on the time of day, when it comes to the menu it changes its tune accordingly. Getting to breakfast first, the menu is astutely divided into light and substantial selections, and the choices deviate a lot from having the general selection on tap. There are all kinds of unusual flavour touches to the meals, and a freshness going about them using a balance of different sorts of vegetables, fruits and such. Never before has a continental style breakfast selection sounded so appetising to this little black duck, but a first time must happen for everything at one point. They do a similar structure at lunch with lights and substantials, and is a range of different cafe-style meals using all kinds of meats and preparations so that they all sound unique and distinct from one another. Dinner is similar, plus the addition of "to snack" highlighting some appetisers, and a range of more substantial and elaborate foods. That is just the food aspect, and wait until the drinks come out.

Both tea and coffee are on offer, and they are not bucking quality with either. Whatever one floats your boat, they have your back covered. As well as that, in keeping it fresh there are freshly-squeezed juices, smoothies, breakfast cocktails along with some sodas. That, and a range of wines, beers both on tap and in the bottle, then a range of spirits that will satisfy any connoisseur. Through and through with it all, the influence is certainly Scandinavian - in particular it is focused on Norway - by the aromas, the aesthetics Through and through, the Scandinavian influence comes through the food as well with a particular kind of focus on the Norwegian fare.

As per normal, the first order of business was getting the drinks, and business went the usual route as well - I got the doppio. The beans that they use here come from a blend that is down in the northern area of New South Wales, Allpress coffee. From what I remember, this was a new one to my dining buddy but I have had it several times beforehand and it is a pretty good brew for the most part. Possibly on the strong side, it has a bit of a chestnut aroma to it - one that is a little bold, distinctive to an extent, and has enough robustness to perk you up. Let's put it this way though, Allpress coffee is good enough to get a second cup so something is definitely being done right by that.

Though not a shoe-in right away, it was still pretty quick and easy in deciding what sounded the best out of the lot given with breakfast, and that was their potato waffles which was topped with some house-cured gravlax, citrus onions, salmon pearls, and a big lot of labne. Getting it out of the way, it simply looked fantastic on the plate, being well presented, and quite colourful, plus not to mention just how generous the portion size was. The waffle was light as a feather, with the potato in it all creamy and soft, the bits of gravlax were massive and the flavour was delicious and subtle in its notes plus the labne really rounded off the entire meal. This was as simple as it was divine, a much recommended breakfast.

After the two great meals that were on show here, my dining buddy had looked over to the counter and saw that some good-looking sweets were up for sale. Going up while I was finished the last scraps of my meal, it was his choice for which was the dessert of choice. He like the look of the red velvet cake, so that was it. It was served with several bits of fruit - namely strawberries and blueberries - and the size of the slice was pretty generous; without heading off to the States, this may have been the most generous size of dessert I have seen - of course with the idea of sharing it in mind being the sole reason behind it.

The cake itself was tasty, and quite moreish. Better yet, the flavour was not overtly sweet or anything, but more of a tart, slightly berry-like taste profile came through. On top of the soft batter, the cream cheese icing was thick, and gave off just the right amount of sweetness. Around it, the bits of fruit were juicy, plump and very fresh. It was here that the second cup of coffee was ordered, and it all came together nicely in the end.

Managing the buck the grunginess that often permeates the eateries at West End and going for more of a sleek, open and clean look, Lokal + Co still has that laid-back charm that goes into many of the cherished eateries so it is still not out of place at all. The attention to detail is on point here, the food portions are satisfying and the food good quality, plus this is the West End made for the residents - hidden away from the main drag, heaps of space and in the suburban surrounds. I may have taken my sweet time between knowing about here and getting to eat here, but all that time does not discount how much it was worth the wait.

Hidden up a side street off the main drag of West End it’s great to have such a wonderful cafe in the area. The menu is interesting with great food, delicious coffee, amazing service and a beautiful ambiance. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

We love it when a friend raves about a new personal favourite. We love it too, when he invites you to breakfast. We love it especially, when it hits all the sweet spots. Great people doing great things in a great space, plus the added 'x' factor making for that certain vibe. My dish of spiced lentils, roasted cauliflower & braised silverbeet with coconut sambol + taro crisps perfectly turned up the heat on the remnants of a Saturday hangover. My mate's potato & leek pakoras with house gravlax & horseradish labne was equally impressive and gets a guernsey on my next visit ... hopefully sooner than later. Oh, and we love it most of all when said friend picks up the bill.

Beautiful interior, indoor and outdoor seating. A major spot for cyclists. Staff are great and attentive. Wait for coffee and food wasn't long.
@Foodieguide_lily
A lovely and clean feeling Scandinavian café with slightly different menu options which is nice. The coffee is nicely made and the service is efficient and friendly. The coffees and meals are a little small for the price however the quality is good and the venue is lovely, especially in summer however lacks a little personality in such an interesting neighbourhood so feels quite out of place, especially as it sits in a suburban street in the middle of West End. I really enjoyed my salmon with salmon pearls on waffles - very fresh and tasty.

Fantastic coffee and equally fantastic food. Had brunch here on Sunday I highly recommend! My new go to breakfast/brunch spot in West End!!!
Tinmans Treats
Slightly off centre of the main strip on West End is this Nordic inspired cafe. This is my mate's go to lokal cafe and we seem to end up here after a morning run.

I usually get scrambled eggs on sourdough but this time I had the potato and leek pakoras, house gravlax, horseradish labneh, baby Swiss chard, poached egg. No faults to point out and the pakoras were crispy fluffy and flavourful.

Coffee has been good here every time I've been.

The interior is very streamlined mixing oak, grey and copper with wall pieces that give it character- it has that Swedish sensibility without being obvious about it. They make use of the natural light to its full capability. If you're cold they have a basket of grey rugs to loan, a very nice touch.
Breaky burger was super tasty. Fit out is nice and fresh. Service was really friendly and quick. There were a few more things we wanted to try and will definitely be back.

This place just gets better each time! Delicious food. Beautiful fit out accompanied by an equally beautiful menu. Lokal and Co is a West End Staple!

My friends and I met here on the weekend for a much needed catch up and we had the PERFECT day! I've been wanting to try Lokal & Co for a while now and so glad I did 😆 It was a beautiful day so we asked to sit outside.. despite that, there was a heater goin just to keep us nice and toasty (just don't sit right beside it, you'll burn 😋) The service was warm and welcoming (hats off to both girls on the floor on Sunday, especially one with the short hair) 👌🏽 The food was oh soo yummy!!! The flavour combo was perfect, the portion sizes perfect, the eggs perfectly poached, everything was perfect! We mainly tried the potato pakora and haloumi crusted portobello and STRONGLY RECOMMEND it 👍🏽 we ended up sitting there for hours and were looked after wonderfully. THANK YOU to the Lokal & co team and keep up the fantastic work! Unfortunately we got too excited about the food and never took any pics haha
Jenny
The potato waffle is nice, soft and tasty. Always a fan of cream cheese with smoked salmon. The parsley might be a little big strong, it would be nice to have it diced up instead of leaving the whole leave(good for presentation though)

My partner had the beef brisket. It is ok but he had to order extra bread because the portion is not so substantial.
Steve Park
Awesome food and great service. Spatchcock was delicious and sides were good too. Have been for breakfast before too and it was excellent. Am keen to go back and try other dishes.
Lokal has just started serving dinner Thursday to Saturday nights. A friend and I happened to walk in last Thursday evening and we are so glad that we did! We had the mushroom pate on house rye with pickles to start, followed by the charred leeks with sweet potato and finished with the chocolate panna cotta ... all absolutely divine from beginning to end and the rest of the menu looks equally intriguing. The lovely hostess looked after us all night and the chef was happy to adapt the meals a little to accomodate my friend who is gluten-intolerant. "Takk" for a great night, Lokal & Co!

My family and I came here for breakfast because I had read good reviews about it in various blog posts. It was a nice experience up until the point where we were kicked off our table. We had been there for a total of one hour and had our glasses of water and everything cleared away even though we hadn't finished catching up. Because of this, I won't be coming back. The menu looked good but the food wasn't anything amazing either. Probably the go to meal would be the banana fritters.
Jennifer Vink
A hidden gem in west end, tucked away from the busy boundary street. Been here three times, first two were for breakfast and had eyes on their dinner menu especially the ribs. Went there last night was disappointed to find out that their menu was changed, so I ordered 12 hrs beef brisket instead. Oh man, was good!! It lost half star because I would prefer more Coleslaw but the flavour was there, and it cooked perfectly. Will be back to try their new breakfast menu.

Lovely staff, quick service. I love the minimalistic Scandinavian interior. Beautiful and clean. Have been a couple times now, and we've always been treat with quick/ quality service.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Lokal + Co is a Nordic inspired restaurant, combining the experience of their Norway-born co-owner/chef with locally sourced produce in a beautifully appointed and immaculately clean restaurant.

Located on a quiet side-street, away from the hustle and bustle of West End, Lokal + Co offers air conditioned indoor and shaded outdoor seating. I positioned myself directly between an air conditioner and the kitchen pass with a view of the whole restaurant.

This may, or may not, have been our first breakfast of the day. Either way, we enjoyed a light meal, including the Apricot Fig Loaf, Eggs Your Way, a Seasonal Berry Smoothie and an Iced Coffee.

The Apricot Fig Loaf was served with a house made Lemon Curd and fresh berries. Lady Meatball swears we've had this exact Apricot Fig Loaf elsewhere, so I suspect this is not baked on site. The lemon curd was fantastic (4) and the toast was good (3.5), but it was a bit awkward to eat the lemon curd where it was more or less smeared on the plate. It would have been nice to be able to spoon the lemon curd onto the toast, or spread it with a knife. As it was, we were forced to mop it off the plate with pieces of toast. The overall dish rated a 3.5.

The Eggs Your Way were served poached over Quinoa Sourdough with house made chutney. The eggs were cooked beautifully, but the dish wasn't overly impressive and rated a 3. I added bacon to the eggs, which was very good (3.5).

The Iced Coffee was good (3), but the Berry Smoothie wasn't quite cold enough and separated within a few minutes. The first few sips were good, but once it separated it wasn't very pleasant (2.5-3).

The Lemon Curd was the highlight of the meal and I noted you could order this as a side/spread - I encourage you to do so.

Smiling/helpful staff, good food and a lovely atmosphere make this someplace worthy of a return visit. Perhaps next time we'll try lunch or catch them on Friday or Saturday night when they serve dinner.

All decked out scandi, Lokal and Co is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the daylight. Floor to ceiling glass doors separate what's an airy and light space inside to the inviting tall-tables beneath big, beautiful, outdoor brollies. Lokal is in a suburban street, meaning you can enjoy the time without road noise or the visuals you're used to from Boundary street. The service is prompt, earthly and warm, and everyone's keen to engage in conversation.

The coffee is truly a standout, and it's hard to focus on the menu if you're still deciding on food once yours arrives. Lokal are happy to cater for dietary choices and are obliging. The wild mushrooms have a great mix including wood-ear and as a result the mushroom flavours are thankfully dominant. Its flavourful yet overall a light dish. The long black here is amazing. Decent crema on top, low acidity, smooth and rounded. It sets the bar high. Lokal definitely sits high on my return list for Brisbane as it was such a great experience.

Such an impressive place - its Aussie/Norwegian/Brazillian owners (who work phenomenally hard and seem to be there most of the time...key to running such a business) have that extra class, with nice decor, fresh and delicious food, and friendly, genuine, attentive service. Breakfast, brunch and lunch all superb - they also do dinner for groups of 15+ people on demand, for special events. Such a wonderful addition to West End, and a little out of the hubbub of Boundary Street, which is great for a change. Top class affair - we've been many, many, many times and have literally never had a bad experience. Make yourself known to Sara and Danielle on weekends (two of the owners, who wait the tables)...absolutely lovely women who always go the extra mile. LOVE THIS PLACE!

Crisp and clean. High standard of food presentation. Had the quail which had a real fresh and complexity of flavour. For a fancy menu, it still has a relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful chai latte.

Located in west end is a newly renovated place in the burbs that serve Scandinavian food, delicious Scandinavian food. First time trying the cuisine, we decided to order the ones with the weirdest names gravlax, yolo. Found out it wasn't gravy but to my delight a delicious cured fish similar to smoked salmon but less saltier. Coffee rub beef rib was also very delicious which consisted of fall of the bone meat accompanied by a delicious tangy tomato sauce.
Stacey Tran
Fresh and vibrant place for breakfast. Everything on the menu sounds interesting, I wanted something light so decided to order the roasted asparagus with wild rice, pickled lemon and poached eggs. It was fresh and tasty. The waitress that served us was very friendly and attentive.
Chloe
Nice little cafe on a quiet street, modern bright interior and comfy chairs, tried some Salads for lunch wish they have more choices on the menu
The Last Mouthful
Charming character, friendly staff, quick service. Had the waffles for breakfast. Delicious and light, delightful balance of chocolate, strawberry and mint - and not overly sweet! The seasonal juice was lovely too. Will definitely go back for more.

Such a quaint place for breakfast. Staff were so friendly and attentive and food had an amazing unusual twist. Recommend the pork belly! Definitely will be back

When I heard Lokal + Co in West End was offering a menu with Nordic influences, we were keen to visit. We fell in love with the exquisite variety of fish dishes during our visit to Oslo last year. Smoked salmon, fermented trout, roe in a tube might not be appetising first thing in the morning for many, but it was such a healthy way to start the day. We would love to find something similar in Brisbane and held onto the hope Lokal + Co might be the answer to that prayer.

Fail. After waiting 10 minutes at a table with no service, I ordered coffee at the counter only to be told they would be 10 minutes wait. Bye bye

The food is amazing, I have been here twice and would be coming back very soon.
For my first Lokal+Co experience I had the sardines which were delicious with a glass of their french bubbles, then I went back for breakfast, this time I had their gravlax -my 1st gravlax experience and I loved it.

Gorgeous deco and super friendly service!

Lokal + Co is fast becoming my favourite restaurant/bar in Brisbane. From the beautifully curated Scandinavian design, to the friendliest service I've had in a long time to the delicious food (which is also beautifully plated), everything harmonises perfectly.
The coffee is great and the wine variety is equally impressive.
Now they are also open for dinner and light bar snacks on Fridays and Saturdays, I can't wait to try that as well.
Claire
We had a delicious breakfast here this morning. We were seated, given water and had our coffee order taken straight away. The coffee was really good. From looking online, I had my eye on a sour cherry brioche menu item and was a bit alarmed when it had been changed to an apricot and fig alternative. I ordered the omelette on special with parmesan and plenty of greens through it, grain toast, pesto and creme fraiche - it tasted amazing. My boyfriend ordered the brioche breakfast burger and loved it - there was plenty of bacon on there. I liked that they had blankets, newspapers, magazines and books you could read too. A really lovely new West End cafe!

Good food and excellent service. Love the Nordic influence. Will be even better if they use bonsoy instead of Vitasoy. Will be back for more!

Lokal + Co is the newest kid on the West End block, serving up Nordic-themed dishes. Upon stepping foot into the cafe, you’re greeted by a minimalist and clean interior, dotted with adorable pots of succulents and the very on-trend chrome accents. The waitstaff were warm and welcoming, however, there was a bit of difficulty with ordering our meals. As the cafe is relatively new, it was understandable that there may be some hiccups, especially when technology is involved.

On a very wet Saturday, this was a great choice. Ambience a winner for me - modern , comfortable chairs ( and tables) ,clean white lines and space to spread out. Whilst I love west end grunge this is a big step up.
Service was spot on - helpful, timely and friendly.
As to food - good choice from staples up depending upon how adventurous you are. Mine was simple this morning but I'd rate it highly. One (tiny) criticism was that the eggs could for me have been done a bit more. Both my partner and I enjoyed. We will be back :)

About time we opened a few more Scandinavian cafes/restaurants in Brissy. We always used to visit the one at Surfers which was a fine example, but obviously unappreciated down there as they ended up closing down. Lokal & Co is another winner for us, with beautiful coffee with all those fine tuned elements going on with flavors. Then the food. Yes I know I am vegetarian, but just could not resist a tiny sample of the partners crackling on the pork belly which was done to perfection. Also that gorgeous house made red cabbage-one word amazing. So well done, great friendly service, have to return to try that salmon dish too

Prepare for an immersive experience. You will feel as if you have been transported to Scandinavia with this Norwegian fitout and menu prices to match. The food was good but nothing special. $18 for a gravlax and 4 tiny rye soldiers + beetroot + cheese; I would go elsewhere if you're chasing a solid breakfast for your money.

A couple of years ago, very few people knew what Scandinavian food was. Do they eat reindeer? Forest berries? Then Noma took the title of best restaurant in the world, and people began to take more interest in the cuisine. It’s still far from commonplace, and Lokal and Co (or Lokal + Co) is one of the few places in Brisbane to serve cuisine focussed on that part of the world. Stockholm Syndrome in Albion (extra points for the name) unfortunately closed its doors a few years ago, and Ikea doesn’t quite count.

Can't believe I didn't take photos, but there's blog posts now.. Really impressed with the food, feel and decor at Lokal + Co. Tried a weekend lunch with some friends, service was friendly and fast. The gravlax salmon was a total winner: delicious steak of salmon with mustard aoili, taters & greens. Just delicious, if a touch salty (tho eaten together was fine). I was surprised at the pulled pork rolls: perfect pork, actual flavour and great use of mustard. Finally, I had sirloin and onion rings. Possibly a boring order, but it delivered amazing flavour. These guys know mustard: ground seeded mustard was not overbearing or vinegary, it worked with the steak just right. Next...breakfast!

Tried this place the other day and have to say I was really impressed. Great atmosphere, coffee was off the hook and the gravlax breakfast dish was delish. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu.
