My absolute favorite restaurant in the Valley after years of eating my way through the 'hood. Great food. Great prices. Great quality of produce in the menu mix (Eg:Belacan Kangkong). I've eaten Malaysian interstate but my experiences at Satay Ria have all been good and I'd rate this spot above those others I've eaten at.....So there's nothing for it but I just gotta keep at working my way through the menu, dish by dish. Ia kehidupan yang keras!

The food is absolutely delicious and well-priced. I highly recommend the deep fried ice cream. It was the best I've ever had. I also tried the lobster tail with noodles and it was excellent too. Yum!

This was a beautiful surprise. Great, tasty food and lovely service. Really lovely atmosphere. We were there with our adult children. Our daughter was back from London for a little while and her list of food she wanted to eat before she went back contained Malaysian. She's done a lot of travelling and was very impressed with the food and able to cross it off her list. Totally recommend. We will be back.

We had a good selection from the menu between 3 of us. One beef dish, one pork and one chicken. All were enjoyable. This is the second time we have been. If it was closer to North Lakes we would be regular visitors

It has been over one year since my last review of this award winning restaurant.
My first step in the dining area, the warm greeting from the wait-staff made me have home feeling. Then I saw Raymond ( the owner) running in between the kitchen and dining room to look after all the diners.
Placed the orders of Moreton Bay Bug in Singapore chili style to go with fried “Man Tao”. A dish of stir-fried Combination Ho Fen with running egg and the a-must order of Kong Kang with Belecan sauce.
Kong Kang came first to table with strong aroma and “Wok Qi” (4.5/5). The Ho Fen came next, which was not bad because the noodles were full of “Wok Qi “. Ingredients were good and tasteful but lacked of running egg sauce (4/5). Hero should be the bay bug. The sauce and the protein were perfectly prepared; particularly the spiciness was just spot-on and we could not stop ourselves to dip the “Man Tao” in the sauce and even used the spoon to help us swallowing them (5/5+).
Overall, ambience, service and the food surely are the factors to keep this restaurant’s success.

TL;DR: Like with many of the choices in Malaysian cuisine, this one aims to please in its own special way. It is not as swish as some of the neighbours, and the direction of the menu can get rough around the edges, yet in those edges they provide so many of the classics that give this cuisine its well deserved reputation as one of the world's best. Combine the elusive nature by hiding in a suburban mall, with the high quality decoration and service, and you are treated to a nice meal out. There is definitely a reason Satay Ria has won awards, trying them out is all that is needed to know that.

In taking turns with my friend, it was her time at the wheel to decide what the monthly place should be. When it is her turn, she really takes to the research and tries to shop around for the perfect place. This one was getting further afield than the normal outing, and that was all fine - she particularly was in the mood for some Malaysian this night, and that rarely ever falls short of being a good choice. She was thinking about going into the Styx this time around, and with the Styx that can bring about some of the more exciting and elusive endeavours. I had heard about Satay Ria, and this was a chance to try them.

With critiquing how the customer service comes across here, it is sort of on two prongs. The first is on the abundance of it, which each time they do showcase customer service skills it is friendly, relaxed, and they have a good degree with attention to detail. Like clockwork, the whole organisation is done before your eyes. Between those times, the folks are consistently working behind the scenes. This I can definitely respect, helping the tone of the atmosphere be more mellow and one to take your time. There weren't a whole lot of folks coming in to eat, so not much need to rush all-rond.

If it wasn't the attentive and friendly service that gets the attention, if it isn't even the laid-back atmosphere along with an organised decor that captures your eyes, if it isn't even the contrast of that with the suburban mall car park right at the door step, what really will get the attention is the sheer size of the menu. They do not muck around here, and part of the DNA with aiming to please is ensuring that there will be at least one item that sounds appealing to the most finicky of eaters. And for the least finicky, good luck whittling it down to only a few.

Truth be told, when it comes to a restaurant menu what I like the most - when they have it - is them putting the best foot forward first, and showcasing the special meals first. With Satay Ria, there is not a consistent theme to the specialty meals - they have a bit of everything from live seafood, to the signature item of Malaysia, to a couple of more innovative dishes. It then goes onto the entrees section, having a range of the usual Asian bites, with a few more meatier choices here and there. After that, they have soups including the classical laksa (fantastic for a cold winter's night).

After that, the structure follows that familiar pattern of Chinese takeaway menus - the meals are ordered by the meat. This time, the seafood is first with prawns and fish taking the precedent, with calamari bringing up the rear. Our land-based brethren come afterwards having several pork options, many chicken options, and a few beef options, with little old duck one solitary meal under its section. Next are the rice and noodle dishes, plus omelets, and the vegetables coming in last before the sweet finish of dessert.

It goes without saying that there is an extensive drinks list to complement all the grub right there on offer. I can't remember if there was much of a bar for beers and such, and if there weren't there is no reason to despair - plenty more options are right at the fingertips. That includes several kinds of tea, plus the unique style of coffee that comes from Malaysia. For something colder, there is the general range of sodas on offer, plus various sorts of juice from around South-east Asia, plus a few other delights in store. Like with any self-respecting Malaysian eatery, variety is key and what they have in variety will always be an exciting adventure.

Starting off as per normal, whetting the appetite came in the former of getting a couple of entrees. With my choice, it was one that I saw on quite a number of menus in recent months and each time piqued my interest just a little more than the last time. That was bacon prawns, and the spoiler alert is they are nice, but it is a case of trying to reinvent the wheel again. It goes without saying what they were, and the batter was nice enough plus the prawns were that great combination of crunchy, sweet, and tender that makes a good prawn a good prawn. The bacon was well cooked, yet it was falling off the prawns a lot. Nice idea, maybe not the best execution, but I am happy to say I tried them. As for my friend, she went with the reliable old spring rolls. This time, the meat in the cigar was duck, and that duck got complimented with some yams, celery, and carrots. They were a mark above the normal spring rolls, as you could definitely taste the meat in them. It was a decent start to the night for food.

When it comes to choosing what to eat from a menu, usually I am scouting in the back of my mind for something that is different and that I haven't tried before If that is not quite the way to go, the other idea is to find something which can't always be readily found at so many places. Both of those ideas worked out well enough this time around, since my eyes came back a few times to the specialty section. That item was their crispy yam basket, and this is one that is worth the endeavour. It was a deep-fried yam ring filled with a simple stir-fry of prawn, chicken, all kinds of vegetables, and cashew nuts in an egg-based sauce. My goodness, was it a sight to behold - and a meal that was incredibly filling. The yam part of the meal was sweet and soft, where the yam absorbed a lot of the eggy sauce. All the bits and pieces in the middle seemed a bit simple in contrast, which might have helped a lot. It is one that definitely has its place, in ordering to share with a big group - among plenty of other dishes.

For my friend, she settled with one dish that you can't go wrong with - the good old Nasi Goreng - the classical Malaysian version of fried rice: a mixture of prawns, chicken, dried bean curd, egg, sambal olek, beans and dried shallots. When choosing is getting hard to do, after all of the exciting and idiosyncratic options that are on offer, nasi lemak is among one of the reliable classics that will always fill you up and be warming at the same time. With both meal, they were very filling and the nasi lemak required a doggy bag

When it comes to the drinks, what can definitely be a safe and reliable bet is that I will often fall back on getting coffee of some sort when it is available. Particularly so when it is a break from the norm, like with the Malaysian style of coffee. It was requested hot, and the milk base was the characteristically sweet condensed milk. That sweetness contrasts in its own odd way with the strength of a good shot of coffee, which at the same time as jolting you up will calm you down. That is an odd dynamic, which is one reason I love this kind of coffee.

Like with many Malaysian places, Satay Ria fills a niche that is pretty unique, and hard to explain. For fans of Malaysian food, it is pretty easy to indicate - the food is unlike anywhere else, not even comparable to its neighbours. With such a broad, and rich menu of options, anyone who come around here is bound to find something that will appeal to their taste buds, and if the choice is difficult then that is reason to keep on returning - the food is plenty food to justify return patrons. In addition to it being a lot like other Malaysian restaurants, Satay Ria proves it is no wallflower or shrinking violet when it comes to proving its worth - the food is as real as it can get, the service is friendly and attentive, plus it has that balance in aesthetics. Just as much as you can take someone here if you want to impress them, just as easily you can duck in at a short notice for a tasty, warm, and ultimately filling meal.

good food, my wife especially likes the egg yolk floss chicken, it's very good, she assures me it's very similar to what you get overseas, and it's hard to find in brisbane. The different dishes i've gotten from here over the years have all been very nice, my only criticisms are some of them are a bit expensive as far as chinese  food goes, and that the special fried rice usually has literally between 2-4 prawns in it, which for the price isn't right, it's still a great fried rice but 2-4 prawns in a large special fried rice that costs 18 dollars is irritating, but unfortunately a some chinese restaurants get pretty stingy with that kind of thing, that's the main reason they're not getting a 5. other than that a very reliable source of good tasting chinese food, well worth a try if you haven't ordered from there before.

I came here for dinner with my familg on a Wednesday night. The place was quite well lit, good atmosphere and rather busy for a small restaurant on a weekday. In saying so, we still got a table fairly quickly. The food we ordered were fried chicken in salty egg, Mongolian beef and sizzling tofu + mince. I have to say i was quite pleased with the dishes. They had plenty of flavour and the servings were fair. However, it did feel abit more expensive compared to getting the same dishes at restaurants in sunnybank.

Honestly love this place. We have visited numerous times, and only have positive things to say about every experience. My family and I are huge fans of the honey king prawns and satay sticks, they never disappoint. Batter is beautiful and crispy, and not to mention the flavour and size of them. The service has always been outstanding. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and are always checking to see if anything needs topping up, and if all if all is going well. Love this place, and would most defiantly recommend to all.

Our local favourite for authentic Malaysian food

We are regulars at this local restaurant because we love all the dishes we've tried - laksa, noodles, rice, fish, meat - they're all good and have that authentic Malaysian flavour. The owner Raymond is very friendly and warm and we're so thrilled to be able to get decent Malaysian food so close to home.

Bergembira Di satay Ria! ( being happy at satay Ria)
Needed a Malaysia fix. Went to Sunnybank, couldn't find a park, didn't want to drive into the city. Took a slight detour, searched on zomato and voila! We turned into satay Ria.
It's very comforting. We ordered curry fish fillets, kangkung belacan and had them with rice. The owner offered to served up both cooked and raw sambal. I loved both!
Need to go back and have more

Great service. The food was very reasonably priced and was delicious. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the chilli sauce contained a hint of shrimp paste which complemented it beautifully. The prawn noodles were also very satisfying, with lots of prawns for the amount of noodles served. All in all a very satisfying restaurant experience.

Best restaurant in this part of Brisbane, hands down, no competition (literally, there's nothing else in this area I could call 'food') .. I seem to have better experiences here at lunch than dinner time, there also seems to be 2 chefs who take different shifts, and one is better than the other. Some meals are excellent, some are not so inspired, but still good. Make a good selection and you'll be surprised by the experience. This is a hidden gem, if you know what to order, the definitely the best restaurant in the area.

Fresh Tasting and Delicious. We had tried to visit this restaurant without a booking on another day and faced a very full restaurant with too long of a wait. A good sign surely. We returned (with a booking) on a Thursday night and were shown our table. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, tagged onto the side of a busy shopping mall. Parking is a breeze due to the shopping mall carpark. Inside the restaurant the surroundings are pleasant but not salubrious. The tables are placed quite close together but this allowed us to strike up conversation with our table neighbours over the meals we/they ordered. Servings are decent, and the food is wonderful. Non-greasy, tasty, and a wide selection. BYO Wine. The wait staff are attentive but not obtrusive. We'll be back.

Mmmmm....Crispy Chicken!!!. Crispy Chicken with Kalapu sauce from Satay Ria. HANDS DOWN my favourite dish when it comes to the Brisbane takeaways/restaurant scene. I have not been this impressed with a restaurant meal since dining at Le Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon in Paris where I paid about AU$100.00 for a steak back in 2005.

The service at Satay Ria is fine, actually it is excellent considering the prices. Normally when you are paying peanuts, you get ugly monkeys but at Satay Ria you get friendly pretty girls. To the person who posted before me...If you are going to complain about the command of English language by anyone other than yourself, please write with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. Seriously, your review was painful to read.

I've tried a few dishes at Satay Ria and can safely say it is the most authentic Chinese food experience I have had at a Chinese restaurant/takeaway in the Western hemisphere (outside Sunnybank). I haven't travelled far in Asia but I have had a lot of Chinese friends cook for me, and the flavours and style at Satay Ria are much closer to what I would expect from my mates.

In conclusion...Good service, great food, and at a low price.

Good food & service. Little expensive. I may have been hanging out out Thai Legend in Bulimba or Sunnybank too much but this place felt a little expensive and lacked the ambience you can get from a trip down to Market Square. The food was good though and the service was friendly and efficient but probably not good enough to make me return.

Quality!. I feel so lucky that a restaurant of this quality is near my house as this area is a bit of a restaurant wasteland. For something a bit different I usually have to travel to Sunnybank or the CBD.

Firstly can I say that the staff are absolutely wonderful. Impeccable service and delivered with such friendly warmth. Special requests are cheerfully adhered to (such as removing ingredients from menu items) and my waiter even rushed up to open the door for me upon my leaving!

There's a large variety of food, from Westernised Chinese (Honey Chicken etc) to some more exotic Malaysian dishes. I have tried a couple noodle dishes and my partner usually orders curries. The roti that comes with the roti curry is to die for.

It's good value, especially the $9.90 lunch specials. I usually can't finish my meal so portions are good. Nice atmosphere and I enjoy the traditional music played.

Minimum $20 on EFTPOS so bring cash if dining alone.

A hit and a miss. Dined for the first time here tonight. I really wanted to like it, as I had heard good things but it just didn't seem to meet the mark. Perhaps I had too high an expectation or my choice of dishes wasn't too great... oh well. Here are my thoughts in point form.

Dishes:
- "Yam basket": This was a circle of deep fried taro (much like the pastry for the taro dumpling that you would have a Yum Cha) enclosing a stir fry of chicken, onion, capsicum and cashew. Best dish of the night. $27
- Malaysian crispy skinned chicken: lightly crispy, heavily seasoned skin, dry. This was delicious but the chicken was dry (despite the claim on their FaceBook page); unfortunately, I failed to see what was different in flavouring from the crispy skinned chicken that you would get at any other regular Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant $20
- Garlic prawns with vegetables: prawns were 'crunchy'. The texture of the ingredients was perfect although the overall dish was ruined by being underseasoned and lacking in garlic flavour. $20
- "Wonton broth": 5 small bland wontons, which were very loosely wrapped, in bland soup with bland char siew (BBQ pork) and a piece of broccoli. This was quite disappointing. $6.50
- Steamed rice $3
- Coconut jelly with ice cream: this was topped with a little maple syrup (or something that tasted like it). Pleasant to eat; not a show stopper. $7
- Pandan pancakes filled with toasted coconut and served with ice-cream: again, topped with a lathering of maple syrup. This was quite lovely, despite the sickly sweet taste of the entire dish. $7

Decor:
- halfway between warm red coloured contemporary setting and Asian kitsch (surprisingly understated for a suburban Asian eatery!)
- a string of tinsel and a few small Xmas decorations
- good aircon (it's hot in Qld)
- comfortable seating

Atmosphere:
- buzzes with the voices of many diners
- staff quite friendly
- WTF typos in menu (keep an eye out for the stir fried 'chinks')
- a noticeable number of other local Asian diners
- suburban Asian restaurant.

Overall: at around $90 for this meal, I found the value to be just ok. The place is comfortable and I like that this kind of restaurant is somewhere other than Sunnybank. I'm not sure I will come again but I probably will... Well I will definitely come again for the Yam Basket and to try some of the spicier foods. Unfortunately, as a whole the restaurant is only just ok as I think that not all menu items are executed to the same standard.

Best Malaysian Dishes in Brizzy. I have to say, this is the best Malaysian restaurant in Brizzy. Raymond does special dishes which are not from the menu. Just ask him to do you a chicken/beef/fish or pork special and he never fails to amaze you with some authentic Malaysian dishes. The chefs are from a reputable Malaysian seafood restaurant - Eden, in Selangor, Malaysia. If you have eaten there before, you would know the quality. Always consult Raymond prior to ordering and you will never be dissapointed. He is all ears on the minor details (spicyness, portions, flavours...etc) which makes the experience better than your mediocre Malaysian restaurants in Sunnybank or Mansfield.

Great Authentic Food. I have only just been introduced to Satay Ria by a friend of mine 2 weeks ago and I have already been there 3 times in the one week. I must say that it IS the most authentic Malaysian cuisine even in comparison to the Sunnybank stores in Brisbane. Raymond is kind and helpful and even offered me some dishes that werent on the menu. The prices are a bit pricey but considering the authenticity of the food and its location, I can whole-heartedly recommend this store to anyone who wants to try Malaysian cuisine at its best.

Excellent Service and Authentic Food. Went there the first time for a farewell dinner with a group of friends last week and was surprised by the food and the service.

The assam fish is definitely a winner along with the trotter. The curry wrapped with bun needs a bit of extra work on the bun. Curry is really good but would give it a 100% if the bun/bread is less thick as the bread can get soaked in curry easier (like baguette).

Most places I go for meals like that, I will need to request for rice (them being too slow) but Satay Ria is quick on everything. The sauce were tabled as soon as we sit and rice were brought out just slightly before the dish were served.

The Boss (ex Little Singapore) is very easy going and even buy us a couple of beer. Price isnt as cheap as Sunnybank but taste is definitely better overall.

ps: dont rate this just because you've been to the Satay Ria at Little Taipei because they taste very different.

Tasty!. Great to have good Malaysian food nearer to my home and not have to drive all the way to Sunnybank for it. My favourites are the fried fish with crispy egg coating, salt and pepper anything, king toh pork rib and the satay. One of the better satay in Brisbane.

Ardent Fan. We've been in Brisbane for the past 8 months and we have been on the look out for authentic Malaysian/Singaporean dishes. This is by far one of the best places recommended to us by our close friends and we enjoyed it. I have been trying to look for this dish called the Butter Prawns/Chickens to get my wife to taste it for several years now, and lo and behold, we've found it here! Don't mistake this dish for the North Indian Butter Chicken. This is totally different.

Awesome food. Went there last night for dinner and was amazed at how authentic each dish was. I am a major fan of Malaysian cuisine and Satay Ria was outstanding in its flavours. Service was great, no delays and for a Tuesday night, the restaurant was bustling. Close to home, now there's no need to travel all the way to Sunnybank or China Town...try it to believe it!!!

Having recently moved to the area we were eating out frequently while unpacking etc. We visited Satay Ria three times in two weeks and sampled new dishes each time. We were not disappointed with the flavours, quality or quantity of any dish. My recommendation is to ask the wait staff about any new dishes which have not made it to the printed menu. All in all - a great restaurant!

Hometown food minus the airfare. A place that you can call your own kitchen without you yourself being the chef! My family and friends like this place so much that we could go few times a week. It's a relax, well balance friendly atmosphere. Most of all, the food is near perfect to my fussy taste buds! Thanks to Raymond and his team who are always willing to provide the extra personal touch to customers' dining experience. BTW, there's no need to single out the best dish, just go try them all in different days!

Great Malaysian Food. We would like to say this restaurant is purely from Malaysia. The food prepared well and the staff was pleasant as well. No doubt for that~ i would like to come back and give it a try. But sad thing is the price for the food is a bit pricey. Hopefully it will reduce the price because the food in Malaysia didnt cost that much as well for a big portion of great dishes

I was very pleased to see a Malaysian restaurant this side of town instead of Sunnybank. Vgood satay with home made peanut sauce. Enjoyed nasi Lemak, Laksa and rendang. Definitely recommend salt baked chicken. Coconut jelly is to die for. Raymond the owner (ex Little Singapore) is always friendly, helpful and keen to keep the food authentic. He has plans to expand the dessert menu in near future.

Very pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately their signature salt-baked chicken was sold out on the night we went, but...this has to be some of the best Malaysian food I have had in my 7 years in Brisbane. Ok, it's Malaysian Chinese cuisine which is also served up by every other Malaysian eatery in Brisbane (genuine Malay-style cooking can be savoured at Dapur Dahlia's stall at the West End Davies Park markets every Saturday, and Riverwalk Tandoori for Malaysian Indian food), but their product is vastly superior in taste. The flavour and texture of the satays and the accompanying peanut sauce was spot on. Grilled whole fish with a sambal belacan paste smeared all over it (snapper in this case, it was even brought to our table for inspection of freshness!) turned out to be an excellent choice, and the rendang was quite tasty. Hainanese chicken rice was decent, although I think a certain Malaysian restaurant in Kangaroo Point does a tastier version. We even ordered this chicken dish stuffed with fish paste - deep-fried then chopped up into pieces - and silken egg-enriched tofu balls finished on a sizzling hot plate. Probably unusual to many Brisbane diners, but something that will have homesick Malaysians who may not have tasted these things in years going on a trip down memory lane. Kuih ketayap aka kuih dadar was nice, although the coconut filling was more of a dry, toasty dessicated mix then a moist, juicy coconut and palm sugar-sweetened concoction, and comes with ice cream. I hope they keep it up, and stick around for many more years to come.

Satay Ria, is another one of Brisbane's suburban gems. Situated in a mundane Cannon Hill shopping centre car park, Satay Ria is a haven of good fare and friendly service. It also has those three initials we all long to see, BYO. Obviously it is a favourite with the locals, however, if you're not local, it is certainly worth the commute. I order the Roti Curry with lamb. It is brash and full of heat and punch and soft hunks of lamb. The roti is amazingly crisp and light. The combination of such textures and weights, is a delight for the senses.  For those who are averse to heat, the menu has many dishes without, and The Beautiful Man finds something to suit his cool palate.  Dessert is a surprise. Kuih Ketayap is shredded coconut wrapped in a pandan flavoured pancake, served with ice-cream. This is utterly delicious. The col
