Review Main St Bar & Eatery - Brisbane

Wendy
This place is a great find. It feels cosy yet is very spacious, as well as being light and airy in a beautiful historic building. We enjoyed coffee and a milkshake on a Sunday morning. The service was fantastic from very friendly and efficient staff, in particular, Malachi and Shy. We will be returning to try the meal options that sounded good on the menu and looked appealing when we saw dishes being delivered to other tables. Something to note living in pandemic times is that I noticed the staff were very attentive in cleaning and disinfecting tables in between customers, and did so in an unobtrusive way.

Arrived and spent a while standing around and waiting for a staff member to acknowledge us as we had made a booking. No directions or sign saying to wait anywhere. Staff behind the bar and coffee machine next to where we were standing either totally unaware or rude. Anyway, we weren’t impressed by the breakfast menu and lunch menu seemed over priced given the poor service and casual atmosphere.

Awesome food and service to match. Jasmine our waitress was outstanding. Food was served really quick and exactly as ordered. Well priced and value for money.

Cosy place with great food. Especially the crispy chicken wings are really good. Been here a couple of times now for breakfast and lunch.

Great service and even when it's busy we manage to get a table and fast food service. The brownies are delicious. The breaky burger is good - the bacon they use is next level! Nice atmosphere for weekend breakfast.

Robyn and I enjoyed a delicious mushroom pizza with a pumpkin salad, and pinot noir. Service and food were excellent as expected in the relaxed and well air conditioned Main Street Bar and Eatery of the Story Bridge Hotel, which is really bistro and not bar (go to the other side of the hotel for a big up market bar, and more dining). The electric shoe polishing machine beside the doorway between Deery's restaurant and the Main Street Bar and Eatery - for complimentary use by the patrons - sets the standard at the Story Bridge Hotel; a standard in Brisbane, Queensland set years before the hotel was built, a standard set by the first premier in the 1860s, Robert Herbert and his companion from Oxford University days, John Bramston, who took a part each of their last names to create the word Herston to name Herbert's farm house and property and where the tiny inner suburb, sadly neglected by the Council exists today. Indeed, the Council would rather do walkways beside Mercedes dealerships and spend a fortune on its PR machine than address and solve flooding in Herston (something that can be said on Zomato but not on the ever-careful Tripadvisor, which cautions against social and political comment. Go Zomato; give us hotel ACCOMMODATION reviews too). The Story Bridge Hotel is also a favourite with the squattocracy and includes regular mud crab luncheons (by invitation, I hear). But less formal Brisbane and indeed Australian traditions also exist at the Story Bridge Hotel, which young ladies and lads appreciate: like the Australia Day annual cockroach race. A major event on the Brisbane calendar (the 38th year for the race in 2019), and Sunday afternoons are always an event when a band plays old rock songs while the young chat in one bar and the older chat in another of the many bars. Mornings at 6.30am is also good for the Main Street Bar and Eatery: all the papers are offered to read, including the SMH and AFR, service is excellent, as is the coffee ($3.50), and the muffins freshly made. Excellent.

The first thing tempts me to explore this place for brekkie is the sign of Vittoria coffee. Walked in this morning and the large venue provides diners with cosy vibe. Ordered my flat white and had a change of having a Thai Style Omelette. Coffee was average but a bit stronger in strength would gain lots of marks. Savory dish was a let down. The fried rice was too oily, omelette texture was weird that gave me the chewing “plastic” feeling (did not finish it and left behind the omelette for the chef as a silent feedback).

Below mediocre. Poached eggs were practically boiled eggs, service was slow, pancakes were small, and coffee was average. Definitely would not come back here again... my stomach was not satisfied; instead, I felt sick.

This place is starting to become somewhat of a regular brunch spot for us of a weekend. The service is lovely and the meals are delicious. Plenty of different options on the menu. Recommend the sweet corn fritters... Mmm mmm.

We've been here for brekky a couple of times now and it's always pretty good. The bread is freshly made and tastes awesome. I regularly order a dish with Main St Bacon which is great for the taste buds on a Sunday morning. I love the decor of the whole place and no doubt will become a regular brekky joint

Nice pizza! The menu was quite limited as there weren't many meat free options. I decided on the king prawn wrap as it was wrapped in lettuce leaves and sounded light and healthy. My eating partners both chose pizza. Theirs arrived first and looked pretty good. Then, a third pizza arrived - a prawn pizza. Somehow they got my order wrong but the waitress took off so fast I didn't have a chance to say anything. I decided to keep the pizza as it looked good and I didn't want to wait all over again. The pizza also had fresh chilli and a sprinkling of rocket on top. I really enjoyed it. Service was very average. We had to hunt for someone to ask for napkins. No cutlery was offered. A bit more care from the staff would create a much better atmosphere.

Best potato hash cakes breakfast in Brisbane.. Can't believe how good the potato hash cakes breakfast was. Love the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. Will be back.

Service wasn't terrible, just definitely not good - almost as if they look to be understaffed. The Milkshake was almost completely flavourless yet my eggs benedict had too many flavours- the one piece of toast was too sweet from the chutney dribbled down which didn't mix well with the hollandaise sauce.

Breakfast on X2 occasions. Both excellent. Good service and menu choices different from usual fare. Enjoyable on every level.

The food and drink are fantastic. Service really poor. Every time we have been here there has always been problems. Twice for dinner we have ordered entrees and mains only to have our mains arrive at the table. The waiters didn't seem to care on either occasion. We had always had success at breakfast tho until today. I couldn't get anyone's attention to say that we were taking a table, once we got served the waitress was very disinterested and rude. Once we ordered our drink we only had another tables drink order arrive at our table. Sorry to say I will miss the food as it is yummy but the service puts me off. This is the last time I will be dinning here for any meal. <br/>Better service only 100m walk down the road by far.

We have visited 2-3 times now at different times of the day and week. Food is always reasonably good, slight twist on the normal cafe breakfast which is refreshing. However the service has always been frustrating, the staff are friendly if they do ever get around to servicing you and i can't help but feel customers are easily forgotten when 8 staff chat behind the bar and only one wanders through the tables. Because of the poor attention by staff there is an awkward feeling of being lost when you first walk in, unsure whether you wait to be seated and whether it is table service or order at the bar... Overall the food is good but the service is frustrating (but not rude or "bad")

Called into my local for a coffee, check out the menu & to have a look at their new eatery which has recently opened it's doors. I have to say they have done a magnificent renovation with lots of interesting knick knacks along with comfortable corners & private spots to sit & relax. Sorry to say that although the coffee was full on with the strength (which I love) it was on the verge of being bitter. So hopefully when I return to try that interesting breakfast menu the coffee will have got over the teething stages

Atmosphere: 5, Aussie pub at its finest!...Food: 6, huge portions at a reasonable price, not bad for pub food! Would go again if I was smashed.
