I needed to use my entertainment book vouchers so I head over to Grub Street for a midweek breakfast. The menu had so many delicious and unique sounding options that I was frankly a little overwhelmed! I turned my attention to the favourite section and saw an option with halloumi and really who can go past any form of cheese for breakfast?
What a great little find! From the outside it doesn't look like much but the menu, food and coffee is spot on. I enjoyed the special of pumpkin fritters with poached egg, garlic mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes and parmesan. I added haloumi too. My only complaint was that it said it came with spinach and kale but mine was missing. My husband had the beef meatballs and absolutely loved it. The service was friendly and meals came out quickly. Coffee was also great and fantastic that it's on the Entertainment Card. Highly recommended, a real neighborhood gem
Scrumptious food! Healthy and worth it. I had the carrot pancakes ($17) which were so filling and came with a side of haloumi (who doesn't love haloumi). Great size portions and the coffee is only $3.50. Can't believe I haven't tried this place sooner! Very satisfied and will be back
I have literally just put my knife and fork down and i had to write this review. This is my new favourite breakfast spot in Brisbane. The meals were delicious and the coffee was great. We had a short wait for our breakfasts and were given complimentary coffee to apologise but I've waited longer in other cafes with no apology. Also have to mention the large meal size, really generous. Probably more than i should eat and way too much for my wife!
Pretty much spot on perfect. Service great, food great, coffee great and the feel of the place is great. It's a go to for me! Have the bacon and egg burger!
Love, love, love this place! Great coffee, great food! No complaints!
Recommend the Nazi Goreng for breakfast!

This place does amazing coffee! I am really fussy with coffee so this is saying something! I also had their passion fruit muffin and it tasted alright, but I personally don't think passion fruit should be in a cake. Service was great too, really nice staff. :)
Came here as we had a voucher but amazed and wowed by the food! Generous portions, unique menu and just yum! Carrot pancakes blew my mind :)
I adore this café, which was one of the first to call Gaythorne home and bring café dining to the area. The menu is filled with healthy and tasty options for the whole family. I recommend the pesto egg cups and the carrot pancakes are delicious. The home made biscuits and smoothies are yummy too. Suitable for the whole family, the staff here love what they do and that is reflected in the food and the excellent service.
If you are looking for some where for brunch the serves something other the usual breakfast options then Grub Street is worth checking out! All of the food is of a high standard and the sizes of the meals are generous. Their fritters are one of my favorites on the menu, but on my last visit for brunch I went with the Chicken Nasi Goreng and it did not disappoint.
If you have an adventurous pallet this is the place for you. Generally there are no traditional Aussie breakfast items on menu. Food is spectacular, high quality however ambiance is lacking at this venue. The menu has international influence. Loved the Beetroot fritters. However the modern take on Nasi gorang can't beat the traditional classic Nasi. Great change in breakfast fare.
There aren't too many brunch options in the northwest suburbs once you get a little bit out of the city but Grub is by far the best and is really high quality, pretty much everything on the menu is good. Highly recommend.
Always love going to Grub Street! The menu is awesome and explores a whole range of different flavours.Great service and food arrived shortly after we ordered. Can't wait to have the Carrot Pancakes Again!! Delicious!!!!
Really liked the food here. Usually I go to Hansel and Gretel across the road but decided to try Grub street and I was not disappointed. Service was quick and staff were all very friendly.
Love this little joint, it has become our usual brunch spot. I always get the carrot pancakes, a dish with an unusual combination but one that works brilliantly together. The brownie and ice cream are also one of the best I've had. Very unpretentious cafe with lots of good food. Staff are always friendly and attentive. 5 stars!
Found ourselves on the north side on Sunday morning so went looking for somewhere local and we found this hidden gem! Not too busy so we were seated immediately, it was cold so we were happy to find a lovely spot in the sun. Ordered the corn and red pepper fritters and the ham cup. Both were delicious! the fritters were probably the best I have ever tasted and I was so happy that they were gluten free. The speck that came as an extra was very fatty, like 50% fat, which was a bit of a shame as the pieces weren't very big, but it was tasty. Coffee was good, maybe a touch on the cool side, but not so much we were going to send it back. Service was friendly and prompt and the prices were quite good for the size of the meals. Will definitely be recommending and returning!
The Gaythorne / Samford area isn’t somewhere I venture to often but we were in the area and hungry so stopped at Grub Street. Grub Street is a little demountable but has something for just about anyone! . The breakfast menu looked glorious but I am trying to venture away from having breakfast for every meal so we stuck to the Lunch menu. It was a tough choice, the Soup of the Day (Sweet Potato with Proscuitto) sounded spectacular but in the end we opted for two of the Gourmet Turkish Sandwhiches. Which to be honest we struggled with choosing between those options alone.
Ate here on Sunday morning and was blown away by their inventive and comprehensive menu! Hubby had the Grubby mince, poached egg
w/ nigella seed and cauliflower flatbread and I had the Pesto & egg ham cups w/ toasted sourdough and avocado salsa. Will definitely be returning to Grub St...relaxed and friendly atmosphere and of course - fantastic food!
I've been reading the comments and can't understand them. Myself and my partner ordered the brioche and the pancakes. It was amazing. Good value for money and full of flavour. We've been trying to find a local cafe where we can come for breakfast every Sunday and we've found it. The staff are friendly there is a female chef (which is rare these days) and the peanut butter milkshake was to die for. I've heard only the best from friends and family about this place and had to try it. Being chefs we are both fussy but this place is amazing! Thanks for the hospitality today and the smiles. See you next Sunday :)
Good coffee, delicious breakfast. My favourite in the area.
Love this place been there twice in the last week for breakfast (my 2 days off) I also work in a cafe so like someone to cook for me on my day off, the food is awesome, full o flavour and portions are huge which isn't a bad thing if you don't want loads just don't eat it all.
Not sure I would have ever had chimichanga for breakfast but I have it a go and loved it. Will be back again and again
Amazing food and service! Highly recommended!. We went to Grub Street for brunch the other day and the selection of dishes and service was simply wonderful! We ordered the pulled pork chimichurri, Grub Street brioche and roasted chicken chiabatta and every dish was so delicious and beautifully plated! The portions were also very generous and they use the best quality ingredients! Their coffee is also exceptional! We can't wait to go there again and would recommend this little gem to everyone!
Yummy!. Came here for lunch and ordered the chimichanga with pork and lots of other yummy things in it. Well, it was absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend it. It was flavoursome, and filled with just the right balance of meat, vegetables and spices. I had the cookies and cream thickshake, and even though I'm not a fan of cookies and cream usually, this had an awesome amount of chocolatey goodness! Just great, and I will be coming back.
The food here is amazing, I strayed on the weekend to try a new place and really regretted it.
BEST breakie in Brisbane. Just had breakie at this little joint this morning, it was delicious!! i was so impressed with their menu and some of their flavour combos/unusual ingredients. I chose the Japanese omelette served with cured salmon and japanese mayo and pickled vegetables. The serving size was perfect (although i didnt think i could get through it all- i certainly did!!) the ultra salty meaty salmon pieces were the perfect addition to the simple egg dish, the pickle cut through the creaminess of the ample mayo. We also had the carrot pancakes with haloumi and pea puree, all cooked to perfection with a more healthy wholesome meal vibe. Coffee and food came out quite quickly and the staff were lovely! i would HIGHLY recommend this cafe and will be back to try a burger next time!
Amazing meal, amazing service. I rely on Urbanspoon reviews to choose a good brunch, lunch or dinner spot in Brisbane. It is because of the previous negative posts about Grub Street that I decided to write a review as all of my experiences at Grub Street have been fantastic.
My partner and I are regulars and it never disappoints! We both love going to Grub Street because they do not have your typical big breakfasts and eggs benedicts. They are always updating their menu, incorporating new and exciting flavours into every dish!
Grub Street's food is always amazing, coffee is fantastic and the staff always cheerful and friendly. The only criticism I have of Grub Street is that they close at 1pm on Sundays, it is sometimes a struggle to make it before they close after a big night out.
I can honestly say that we have tried most of the items on Grub Street's menu, and we keep going back for more. The pulled pork omelette is definitely a favourite, as is the brownie with homemade blueberry icecream.
On our most recent trip to Grub Street, we ordered the Grub Street signature big brekkie, and the zucchini and haloumi fritters. The portions were huge and cooked perfectly. The Grub Street signature big brekkie was flavoursome, especially the Mexican corn cakes. I'm not sure what is in them, all that I know is that it is extremely tasty! At first, I thought the zucchini and haloumi fritters along with the eggplant puree was a strange combination, but it was a perfect blend of sweet and salty.
There are times when we try different brunch places, however, other places do not compare to Grub Street in terms of flavour and variety.
A return visit is on the cards. Great food, attentive service. It may be small and tucked away in a not so flashy location, but boy does this place offer some great menu options and the presentation and value for money is certainly there. Can't wait to go back and try their breakfast menu.
It was ok. My partner had the open omelette and said it was a very weird texture and not a whole lot of flavour. The pulled pork that was in it was a winner though.
I had the fritters and they were fine. Not what I ha been hoping for Grub Street to be like but with a 2 for 1 entertainment book voucher it was worth trying.
I don't think we'd go back unless we had another voucher to use there.
Service great with great smiles from the staff. Food cooked to perfection. Cannot complain about the portion size. Great value with quality tastes.
Great service, a range of different style of food that are amazing and delicious . Taking home a inshop made relish
Diana. Basing my "Like" tick mainly because its pet friendly & the food was reasonable but didn't have a flavour kick for me or the partner. Also the coffee was wishy washy not enough strength. On saying that I did like the pea puree on which my carrot patties were served & the carrot patties were OK but a tad dry & flavourless, needed a spice hit badly!. My partner had the pulled pork quesadillas & likewise for him the pork was Ok but where was the spice? Other than that we enjoyed sitting in the sun outside at Grub Street with the pooch & the service was attentive
I love it here! The menu is really fresh and exciting, adding different flavours to classic dishes. The service is really friendly, and though it an get pretty busy, they are always willing to accommodate you. Definitely the best brunch spot this side of town.
Have lived one minute walk away for a couple of months and finally tried it. So good. Just do it. Don't even think. Just spend your money there. Massive taste bud return on investment!
Four of us visited grub street and all ordered different meals for breakfast. Each meal was delicious! My quinoa porridge was so good, I wish I could have it every day. Service was friendly too. Highly recommend!
Service can be a little patchy but the food is surprisingly good - it'll make you go back for more. Highly recommend the Nasi Goreng.
Food took a while but was yummy when it arrived. Friendly service.
Very yummy food, but it can get very noisy. Friendly staff too. Go for the food, but not the ambience.
Nasi goreng. So good, so perfect.
It's all about the food. At Grub St its all about the food. Everything else is relaxed and on a shoestring...that's good by the way. They could polish a few things without spending any money. However if you love a dynamic menu and a delightful fresh feed that is way above the usual boring cafe fare - head to Grub St. Restaurant (chef food) at cafe prices. Parking around the back or in side streets.
So impressed ! Amazing pancakes, sensational duck ham with eggs and my bacon and egg roll was fab. Coffee was hot, friendly staff and super cute setting.
Finally! A decent local Cafe
Food was awesome...service excellent ..was my first time but not my last. Sooooo many delicious things on the menu made it very hard to choose.
Delicious. Was struggling to pick one thing from menu. Fresh ingredients. Not the standard breakfast menu. Decor simple, yet comfortable. Solid service. Will be back!
Well worth the adventure into the suburbs. Very tasty good food with lovely service. A total gem
Had the beetroot cured salmon and was extremely impressed. Definitely going again.
Simply awesome food. A relief to find a place laid back that has not compromised on quality. Will be coming back again and again.
Great brunch menu. We were lucky enough to score a table for 6 on a busy Sunday morning 10.30am... good coffee and service, the food was a bit slow to arrive but it was worth every minute of the wait! I had the haloumi & zucchini fritters and they were delicious! Will be returning to try more of the interesting dishes on the menu.
Good coffee but bit rich for a takeaway to cost an extra 50c!
Much needed cafe for the North West. Grub St is in a pretty unsavoury location -surrounded by crappy run down shops on busy Samford road. Having said that, step in to Grub St and you could be in Paddington. Sexy modern art on the walls, a modern Australian menu with gourmet offerings, good cakes, drinks and surprisingly drinkable coffee (for this side of town). Only downer is it is a very small place, few tables and can get very noisy with everyone talking in a space smaller than my lounge room.
It's great! Food portions are on the small side but the quality is great! Genuine chef/s work here. Staff have always been polite and accommodating to me. Well done guys.
Good & Local. Nice Coffee.. will be going back for takeaways.
Food was also nice especially nice for area.. however probably the norm in the inner city.
Eggs Bennedict i had were nice however portion was a little small for the $17 price tag... But it is breakfast after all.
I will for sure be going back as it is the without a doubt the best eats in the region. However I think Grub Street may blend into the background in the valley or Newfarm etc.
Love it to pieces!! Chef Stix and Adsm make awesome from scratch food using local ingredients where possible. Breakfast is simply the best!
It's all good !!!. I am a regular at Grub St in Gaythorne -
I have tried most things on the menu and everything has been fresh, well made and creative - The chef keeps the menu fresh by introducing whats freshest seasonally -
The wait staff are friendly and personable - Stix - the headchef makes you feel welcome and will come and chat with you if he has the time -
Stix also makes his own relishes, Jams' and preserves -
The Gluten free chocolate brownies are the best anywhere and can be served with a side of peanut icecream + berries
The Orange syrup cake comes with Yogurt and Stixs' cumquat Jam
The atmosphere of the places is always vibrant + Interesting, with artworks, up to date magazines and music-
A must for anyone
Yum. These guys are awesome, when i am homesick for Melbourne i hang out here!! Coffee is consistently excellent, the brekkie menu changes regularly AND they have really good sourdough & rye bread (unlike the usual brisbane high top white crap). Try the green eggs & ham YUM
I like Grub Street's menu, the food is different and special compared to other cafes I have visited; you will not find your usual 'Big Breakfast' or 'Eggs Benedict' here. There's definitely influence of Asian or Turkish/Middle Eastern in their food, with 'Asian pulled pork' and 'hummus, labne, smoky eggplant' respectively.
Although we used to live around the corner from Grub Street at Gaythorne, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we finally made it there for breakfast. We'd tried to pop in a couple of times over the last few months, but the small dining room had been fu
This place is worth going to check out. Nice thick cut toast bacon and eggs on point and the staff are so lovely. Even in winter the sun shines in to warm your back while you eat the delicious food and sip on your fav beverage.
Absolutely amazing food for great prices, coffee is great too. Very dog friendly and I love this place. New favourite. Bread is so fresh and crispy on the outside soft on the inside.
Absolutely amazing! My daughter has been telling mr about this place for about a year and I finally tried it. The menu is so good and with so many wonderful sounding dishes it was a tough choice. I had a cauliflower and goats cheese fritter on the all day breakfast menu, it was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The flavour combination was just perfect and I was so disappointed I couldn't finish the whole plate. My sister had the Reuben sandwich and the brisket was so tasty. My friend, who is gluten intolerant had the eggs Benedict on gluten free toast, she said the bread was really nice, which is something she doesn't get to say often. The coffee was fine, and the juice combinations are really good. The service was fantastic and we arrived 40 minutes before they closed, which was plenty of time, but they were so apologetic that they closed at 1, honestly, it was still heaps of time. There's on street parking down the side road, but there's also parking out the back, via the side road too. I can't wait to go back and try the other dishes. They do say they can cater to specific dietary needs and to simply ask staff, which is great. They also had quite a few vegetarian options. Definitely worth a visit.
Once again an awesome meal from Grub Street. My wife and I visited on the weekend and nothing has changed. Same quick and easy service. Same fantastic tasting food. Their menu is always interesting making the choice of meals difficult but every item tried so far has been wonderful. Can happily recommend this restaurant!
A real nice place to relax and be with your thoughts or have a fun conversation with your friends. Food is amazing and healthy. The menu has a great and balanced selection of food, both vegan and gluten free. The coffee is perfect and has a great taste. If you want to support local businesses, Grub Street should be on your list.
Delicious and arrangement of different types of breakfast meals, catering to all groups. Friendly service and great coffee. Outdoor area thats dog friendly but was raining when I came so my poor pups stayed at home.
Grub St Cafe is amazing! The owner and staff are all so cheerful and are willing to have a chat with customers. The food is the best I've had at a cafe and generous in servings. I would definitely recommend this cafe.
