Came here specifically for peking duck and I can gladly say that I was not one bit disappointed. We ordered mongolian beef, garlic fried squid to start off, and then the peking duck/san choy bow package as the main. The peking duck was presented beautifully, the duck was glistening and was just delightful. The san choy bows were the only downfall, they were served on wilted lettuce leaves and the meat was bland. The service was great, I would definitely come back next time just for the peking duck!!!
Caught up with some of Adam's friends for a birthday party a short while ago. The birthday girl wanted some Chinese food and to try somewhere new, so we tried our luck with Billy's Pine and Bamboo at Cannon Hill. A long standing local favourite, my parents told me they had come here as early as twenty years ago, long before I can remember.
Great Chinese restaurant in an area without many Chinese restaurants. Famous for their Peking duck (served right in front of you), thinly sliced and great crunch to it. Great for banquets, there were quite a fair bit of tables occupied for a Wednesday evening. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
First I just want to say, my photography skills are close to nothing and it’s hard taking pics at big events where the table is turning so much! so basically, you will be waiting a very long time if you come here when they are moderately busy. So just be prepared for that. Good food though, everything is very flavourful.
Ate here with my family and had a great experience. Came here to try the Peking duck and it did not disappoint. If your wondering how which courses you should choose I would say that the duck pancakes were good but the San Choi bow was slightly underwhelming. Highly recommend the sweet and sour soup. The garlic prawns were excellent too. Overall the experience and service was great due to the fact that my family speak Chinese. Although the quality of food was good I would say that without having a Chinese speaker the service would not be the same. The manager chose all of our dishes for us and made recommendations based what he thought we would like. I doubt this would happen for an English speaking family.
Ordered:
1. Peking duck eaten in two ways- first with the pancake and the second with the lettuce wrap. This is the best Peking duck place I have eaten in Australia. They slice the fat off the skin, the waiter was very attention to detail to make sure most of the fat is gone.
2. Other dishes such as Lemon chicken, stir fry veggies with garlic sauce, their signature beef dish and tofu dishes are all very good - I don't normally like to eat at Chinese restaurants when I dine out, if I have to, this is the place I go.
3. Apple toffee - My favourite Chinese dessert dish. It tastes great, however they need to bring it out more hot and submerge it in cold icy water faster to create the wow effect.
Will I go back: yes as I always do.
Service 4/5
Staff members were quite friendly especially considering the fact that it was JAM PACKED. it was probably one of their busiest nights. Although the wait staff were nice, I have to dock a star because our meal took 1.5hours to come out. We had ordered the peking duck, Mongolian beef, noodles and fried rice.
Food 3/5
Food was good but nothing amazing. I was quite disapointed that they had completely removed the skin of the duck from the meat as generally they leave a sliver of it with the skin for the pancakes.
Decor NA
Couldn't tell you anything about the decor because we were sat outside. I will mention however perhaps the tables and chairs should be replaced? They were from 1996 and wobbled throughout our whole dinning experience.
The Peasant's Chicken and the Shredded Beef are both unique and great dishes.
This is the best dine in Chinese in Morningside/Cannon Hill, with a massive old school dining room.We love going here and have been doing so for 30 years. It's a local classic and after all this time the owner still greets every customer as they come in. Decor is kept fresh and staff are always attentive.
Book ahead, especially on weekends, as it is very popular.
It's an awesome restaurant if you like duck and original Chinese flavours! It has a sensational pork ribs and beef stick. I also tried soup and steamed fish as well. Both were absolutely delicious.
Great service and food. Wait staff were all really friendly and happy! I wish the didn't just cut the skin for peking duck though, it should have done duck meat on the skin!
Came here for a proper chinese dinner. the only dish that amaze me is the peking duck....the rest are just dahhhhhh to me. fish was freshly killed and steamed but is just too salty with the sauce. no comments on the other ones. #sorrynotsorry
Pine and Bamboo, a restaurant located East of the CBD known most for their famous Peking Duck and yes, I would have to agree that so far, that this is one of the best I have eaten in Brisbane. They don't only serve Peking Duck of course, they also serve other Chinese dishes like other Chinese restaurants would. Their space is quite big so whether it may be a family gathering or a birthday party, it can cater for any.
This renowned restaurant located in one of the small shopping villages in Cannon Hill. I heard about one of their signature dishes: Peking Duck" for a long time and eventually found the time to have a go (what an excuse!). Well, it was a shock, we ordered the duck in 3 ways and they are divine. We particularly told the waiter to peel the duck skin with the fat underneath it because it will enhance the rich flavor of the duck roll. Definitely there is no complaint, duck skin is crispy, home-made sauce is superb and the pancakes are the best I ever have in Australia (even better than Flower Drum in Melbourne and Mr Wong in Sydney). I am proud of it so we will have something to attract tourists from other states. Having said that there still lots of rooms waiting to be improved. First, a face-lift to the dining area is needed because the set-up is so old-school; second, chefs need to pay attention to plating (it is so rustic to that price charged), sometimes, foodies do not only pay for tastiness but also the aesthetic on food and ambient; and third, please think about the wine list (it is the worst wine list that I encounter in the past two years).
I do wish this restaurant going up higher level to one or two hatted in the future.

This place is famous for their peking ducks, sometimes we drive 30+mins just to taste their dishes and is definitely worth the hassle especially when I live around 200+ chinese restaurants.
Food was pretty good but definitely overpriced. The big surprise here though was the lack of eftpos! I know some small asian eateries are cash only, but what serious restaurant doesn't offer eftpos these days??
What a fun night. A large group of us dined here on Friday night, the restaurant and staff were all very friendly and accommodating. We ordered 4 ducks and found the wait time reasonable. And the duck...wow! Best I have ever had, beats some Peking duck I've had in Hong Kong.
Other dishes were good but none stood out as much as the duck.
Our waiter was very funny and contributed to the great atmosphere. At one point the owner (the sweetest little man) even joined us for a few drinks.
Overall a memorable night with memorable food. We left satisfied and will definitely be repeat customers.
We went last night as a party of four - had Peeking Duck (2nd course with noodles), fresh perch with ginger and shallots and salt and pepper pork ribs. Everything was divine. The service was also exceptional - they were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended.
Possibly the best Peking Duck I've ever tasted! Wrapping pastry mildly commercial. Fantastic service. However, could do with proper wine glasses. And disappointingly, the mud crab noodle was absolutely too salty!!!
Love the duck. I LOVE Peking duck and the one here is good. The service can be slow when they are packed, but the food is great, the 2nd course duck noodles - mmh.
The wine is a little expensive for what they have.
It can get loud in here with the family tables all around, but the reason to come here is the duck.
My partner and I shared the vegetarian San Choy Bow for entree. The presentation and taste was pleasant but not spectacular. We ordered Singapore prawns and spicy eggplant to share for our main course. The menu did not indicate the presence of meat in the spicy eggplant, so we were surprised when the dish arrived as it contained meat. Thankfully the Restaurant management removed this dish from the bill. I have suggested that a letter V be placed next to meals that are vegetarian. Our dining companions enjoyed their spring rolls, chicken & vegetables, and banana fritters with ice cream. We felt that wait staff were a bit too eager to clear plates. However they were friendly and clearly enjoyed their work. We'll be back and in the mean time we will continue to enjoy their take away menu.
Best Peking Duck in Brisbane. We come back time to time only for the Peking Duck..... Yummy
Fantastic Peking duck. I hadn't been to this restaurant for many years and now wonder how I could have forgotten how great the food and service is at the Pine and Bamboo.
We had the Peking duck and it was just perfect.
The staff were so helpful and attentive.
Thoroughly recommend.
Best Peking Duck in town!!! Yummmmmm
Best peaking duck in Brisbane. It's crispy and fresh.
My family and I have been going to eat at Pine and Bamboo for over 15 years and we've always loved the food. Chinese New Year is always a favourite and the steamed fish with ginger and shallots is amazing!
Best Peking Duck in Brisbane. The owner is a real character, and the Peking duck is great. Other dishes are ok, wine list is you typical suburban Chinese list. But the Duck is good!
Still going strong!. Yup give it a look ya dirty chook! very tasty tucker!
Best Peking Duck in Brisbane!
I LOVE this place! I've not had anything I don't like, but the Peking Duck is by far the best!
Great Peking duck. Treated ourselves to the Peking duck and we weren't disappointed.
The duck pancakes were beautiful, skin crisp, crunchy cucumber, shallot and fresh pancakes to compliment it.
In saying that, I wouldn't recommend the duck San Chou Bau as the second dish. It was bland, and I had to use the leftover sweet sauce to frump it up. Next time, I will try the duck with noodles.
Excellent Chinese Food!!! awesome Peking Duck
Best peking duck in Brisbane! The skin was so unbelievably crispy, the sauce complimented the duck so well and whats great is that you get so many portions! Wasnt a fan if the mince duck in lettuce leaves, it was a tad bland. Next time i'll try the duck noodles instead!
Busy but good.. I love the food here [when it arrives that is]. The atmosphere though, is lacking. It's too bright with no ambiance.
Excellet food, excellent service. The menu has a huge variety of dishes and they are all delicious. Perfect portions and the staff try to meet every expectation you may have. The three courses of Peking duck is expensive and may not be worth every dollar but it's exciting having the duck prepared in front of you. Highly recommend but booking is essential!
Avoid Weekends!. An institution for 20 years and you can see why - good quality food and an eye for what the punters will like. On the busy days you had better order just what the punters want, because everything else will take a while. Not that this means you will eat average food: the punters like Peking Duck and Mermaids' Tresses and these are outstanding here.
But come during the week and all sorts of special goodies are yours to choose: steamed oysters, salt and pepper tofu and prawns and, if you order a day or more ahead, Beggar's Chicken. A whole chicken cooked in clay, broken open at your table, melting on the plate and so succulent!
You can eat well here if you just order the headline stuff, but if you want to be adventurous there is so much that awaits you.
But only during the week.
Oh, and be ready to be from time to time disappointed with the service: sometimes they just can't get it right (dishes out of order, wine that never arrives) although usually it is spot on.
One of the better chinese in Brisbane, reasonable price, service was excellent though charging for chilli a little steep.
Love it!. We love the Pine & Bamboo - whether it's dine in or take away. The staff are extremely efficient and I have never been able to fault the service. The Pine and Bamboo team are always so accommodating and I love the way Billy (Owner) always walks around and greets everybody. The food is delicious and the Peking Duck is the best I have ever had. Great place to take family and friends for amazing food in a relaxed atmosphere!
Local legend. Love Pine and Bamboo, food is always good quality, the PK duck divine, dumpings are a big favorite with the whole family. Love the Grandma bean curd, and the black vinegar spare ribs are good as well.
Best Chinese on the east side of brisbane.
Best peeking duck in town, I like how they cut off all the excess fat. Very nice & fresh food all round

Good Value - Great Duck. Four of us dined here two nights ago. Fortunately we reserved a table - what a popular restaurant!
I love Peking Duck and enjoy comparing it in different restaurants and different countries. It was delicious at Pine and Bamboo, and the waiter carving the skin made sure there was no fat attached to it, which we appreciated.
A whole fish was taken from their tanks and carried to us for inspection before being served steamed in ginger and shallots. Very nice.
The wine list was small but there were a couple of nice chardonnays at excellent prices.
The four of us ate well and had wine and other drinks, two had desserts and we still paid less than $200. Great value.
It's busy and noisy but the service is good and host Billy Wong likes to wander among the tables checking that his patrons are satisfied.
I recommend Pine and Bamboo.
Great suburban Chinese. I'd say Pine and Bamboo is more authentic than most suburban Chinese restaurants. The salt and pepper tofu and shallot pancakes are my favourite dishes. Be sure to book a table if eating in as they are always popular at the weekend.
The food is real authentic Chinese the crab and corn soup was the best I have ever had
Now don't get me wrong the rest of the food is great but the duck is amazeballs!!! Rumour has it that Uncle Ads has even gone and eaten a whole duck on his own. Now I might not be a Peking Duck expert, I've only eaten it at Billy's and Flour Drum in Melbourne but i'm pretty sure it would be impossible to get any better. My favorite part is the sauce which can only be described in my own naughty way "Its so good I could stick my #$%^in it", yes I told you it was naughty. So between Christmas and New Year, Husband and I, Uncle Ads and Chloe and friends Phil and Haylee joined us for "no special occasion duck". We basically order the same thing EVERY time. Wontons (you have to get these) and spring rolls too start. Then the Peking Duck pancakes Sweet & Sour Pork, Mongolian lamb and the 2nd course of the duck which was duck noodles. Phil and Haylee picked the last main so we tried something new which was schezwan beef, We didn't get too many pics tonight, just pictures of the mongolian lamb, schezwan beef and my first duck pancake. Definitely give this place a try, and if you don't like it...well your nuts!
