Review Greca - Brisbane

Fran Cormack
We had dinner on a busy Thursday evening. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was delicious. A veritable Greek feast. We shared the (small) lamb, it's huge!, And the souvlaki chicken. Absolutely beautiful. If I had a qualm, it would have been nice to see more Greek house wine, by the glass.

Awesome view, kind staff, amazing food. The food looked so nice and was true! However, it was a bit salty to us. 😂 It was a good memory and spent an enjoyable time tho. Thank you for taking care, for good service and smile.

Brilliant food, service and view! It's very popular so worth booking an outside table in advance. Our waitress was so lovely and recommended we do share plates instead which ended up being perfect for our table of four. My favourite meals were the calamari and the souvlaki charcoal chicken but honestly every dish was delicious. Highly recommend. Definitely worth a visit!

Most amazing Greek food and general dining experience ever. You could tell everything was made fresh with high quality ingredients and they came out at just the right temperature and all dishes tasted exquisite. The pacing and order in which the food and drinks came out was also done perfectly. Although it took a bit to get our order down due to it initially being very busy the service from then onwards was wonderful. The food at this restaurant has turned me into an absolute Greek food lover! Thanks Greca and my girlfriend for taking me here 😎👌

Took me back to Greece with great fresh flavours and a friendly atmosphere. I scored a seat at the bar, closest to the kitchen and wish I could have had every dish that came by. Excellent service despite being very busy. Highly recommend!!

Perfectly balanced and delightful dishes! I was apprehensive that our meals would be too salty because I’d read some less than favourable reviews however, it absolutely wasn’t the case for us. Will definitely be back!

Probably the best restaurant I have visited. The location, atmosphere, wait staff and quality of food were exceptional. Really impressed. All the wait staff seemed to be enjoying themselves and having fun. Olives & Saganaki were perfect, roast potatoes delicious, garden greek salad beautiful and the chicken was wonderful. There was a bit of a wait for the main dishes but they were very busy and it was the same for all tables. The food was worth waiting for anyway. Fantastic, will definetly be back.

🧚🏼‍♂️ service - 5/5 🍴 food - 5/5 🍸 drinks - 5/5 I went out for dinner with five other friends and we got the $65pp. The food was to die for. The lamb shoulder was so soft and would fall apart. I definitely recommend GRECA. The waitress, Ocea, was absolutely amazing. Her service was so attentive, friendly, warm, and pleasant.

Good quality Greek food with an awesome atmosphere. It is slightly overpriced but the service is good and you pay for the location (right on the river). I came here with a large group and the food was brought out quickly. <br/><br/>It’s not always worth it to get the banquet - we ordered a la carte and it ended up being cheaper for more food!

Probably the best Greek food I’ve ever had. Service was impeccable and the food to die for. Definitely coming again...and again and again and again.

Grill chef is truely master chef🙏

Pork cutlet was overcooked, lamb was served a little cold and lacked flavour without the yoghurt. A little overpriced considering

What a fantastic experience it is dining at Greco at the Howard Smith Wharfs with an idealic view over the BRISBANE River of the CBD . The wait staff were attentive and my only complaint was that sitting outside was very hot with only a small fan for relief<br/><br/>The food was delightful I had the saganaki which is always a fav of the Hammer and followed it up with the Lamb Shoulder <br/><br/>Will definitely be back ( maybe at a cooler time lol)

All our meals were delicious. However, the saganaki cheese bubbling away in its hot plate with honey drizzle cover it was the highlight. We did have a small incident with our dessert which required it to be taken away. However the waiter dealt with it professionally and readily. He replaced it with some ouzo infused watermelon which was also delicious and refreshing. Very satisfied customer and I can’t wait to go back.

This was my 2nd dining at Greca. The location, atmosphere, and friendly staff are its redeeming factors. I’d recommend if you do try greca, don’t go in a big group because you’ll be forced to eat from the banquet which is “fine” at best. Lacks in value for money and you could get a lot more for the same amount just about anywhere else. Also, not great if you have any dietary requirements as you end up being served the same supplementary meal multiple times. This place isn’t quite “bad”, but Brisbane has much, much better on offer.

Greca has been bookmarked since it opened, but unfortunately it disappointed. Our table of 4 had a selection of items from the menu. The saganaki cheese was far and away the highlight. The remainder of our dishes were ok, but not amazing. I was really hoping for some genuine Greek food, taking me back to the beautiful meals we had in a number of little tavernas in Vouliagmeni, Athens.

Went to Greca for my birthday last week. The location of the restaurant at the Howard smith wharfs is amazing. <br/><br/>The food was solid but can’t say that it is the best Greek in brisbane but it is better than Hellenika. We tried most of the meals including: lamb, chicken, kritheraki, saganaki, octopus, Greek Salad, eggplant salad, vine leaf parcels and finished with the chocolate metaxa pudding. (Most meals shown in photos). Overall the food was nice but this place is definitely overpriced, I would save it for a special occasion if you decide to go.<br/><br/>The staff are Friendly and the service was great. Not sure if I would go back again but it was worth trying out.

Enjoyed a really busy Sunday lunch session here. Booking had been made ahead but we were seated upstairs which is not a great location. Downstairs, the place was full of huge tables and bulk atmosphere with views. We were reminded on more than one occasion that we were the first sitting and needed to be out by 2. That aside, we had excellent service. Loved the saganaki and grilled octopus and the whole lamb shoulder with roast potatoes, braised greens and a village salad were great. I plan to return and sit at the bar and try the flounder. This is a big noisy happening place with very good greek food. Go with a crowd and get into it.

The location is great, nice view of the city. The main meals are fairly basic however, they are just the meat and very small. Adding on a side, it is fairly pricey to eat here and unfortunately I felt dissapointed leaving hungry. The food is good, but the view is definately the highlight here.

3 of us came to Greca for dinner, it was really busy but we were accommodated quickly and they offered us a seat at the bar.<br/><br/>The staff were attentive, had good knowledge of the menu and quick to recommend dishes with overselling like some tapas/Meze style places do.<br/><br/>The menu was varied, for us the saganaki with honey and oregano was the best part. The salads complemented the main dishes well and serving sizes were appropriate.<br/><br/>The drinks menu had a good variety for everyone and priced well.<br/><br/>Good place for sharing plates with a group. Would probably come again to try other dishes and one of the cocktails!

Hi there - we booked months in advance for a nice lunch at Greca for a large function over the weekend. An hour before the event was due to start, we called to confirm the booking and when the person on the phone was about to hang up, they said "Okay see you tomorrow!" and we had to correct them to ensure they knew we were coming in for the function that was due to start in one hour, not 24 hours. We arrived half an hour early to set up place cards for the function and were turned away from the restaurant. They still had patrons sitting in the area they had reserved for our function which was meant to start at 1.30pm. By the time the patrons had cleared out of the area meant for us and the wait staff had set up the chairs and tables ready for our function, the actual event ended up starting at 2pm (half an hour after the original 1.30pm start time). They seemed to only roster on one (or sometimes two) staff member/s to look after 38 patrons so when you've paid money for a 2 hour drinks package and your glass is left empty for half an hour, you definitely feel like you're being ripped off. The main waitress was lovely but just very slow and forgetful but the head waitress was absolutely awful - she kept rolling her eyes anytime someone would ask for their glass to be topped up, she would slam down plates on the table, she was not helpful at all and had one of the worst attitudes of any wait staff I have ever come across. She should not be working in hospitality with such a bad attitude. On top of this, our mains were not brought out to the tables until 3.40pm when our drinks package was due to finish at 4pm. And then they brought out desserts after 4pm, after the drinks package had finished. The food was average. I don't normally leave reviews but wanted others to be warned of how bad our experience was. I would not recommend this venue to anyone and feel sorry for others that spend their money here. We spent thousands of dollars and not once were we apologised to for the bad service, slow service, disorganisation or disappointing food. I hope they can learn from this function and improve their processes to ensure future functions do not turn out like this.

Greca is in a beautiful location on the Howard Smith Wharves with wonderful views of the Brisbane River. We visited on a busy Sunday for lunch and the place was buzzing. Definitely need to book here!<br/><br/>Staff were very friendly and explained the menu and food as it came out. I'm not the hugest fan of places that recommend 2-3 small plates per person plus sides and main because it ends up costing a lot and Greca is definitely not cheap.<br/><br/>We started with split pea dip and bread. Delicious - lots of crispy capers and fresh herbs on top and the bread was fresh and tasty. Next up was saganaki cheese, honey, oregano - by far the best dish, it was SO good! Spanakopita: wild weed, cheese pie - really tasty, I'd have loved even more of this one as it was also one of my favourites. Fritto misto: calamari, school prawns - not a favourite amongst the group as prawns were whole and I'm personally not the biggest fan of eating whole prawns but it is explained on the menu as 'school prawns' so we really just ordered the wrong thing for our tastes! For a salad, we chose the marinated eggplant, yoghurt, farro. Nice, if not a touch bland so just ok. <br/><br/>For our main, we chose charcoal chicken, lemon, pepper, mustard greens. It was nice and lemon-y but still quite small for a 'main' and we also ordered greens to go alongside which came out well and truly at the end of our meal. Disappointing as it was quite literally a plate of greens which wasn't the most appealing thing to eat on its own. <br/><br/>Desserts were lovely, Katoumari: smashed filo, walnuts, semolina cream and lemon meringue pie. Really good, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the lemon meringue as I'm not a big meringue fan. <br/><br/>All up it's nice, good food, just nothing stand out (apart from teh saganaki cheese!) and quite expensive when you have to order a fair amount of dishes to come away full. Beautiful spot, great decor and atmosphere, and I'm sure they'll do great by location and authentic Greek food, it's just not been my favourite.

Working near riverside, one often used to see the construction that went up under the Storey Bridge throughout most of last year which accumulated to the completion of the extremely popular Howard Smith Wharves. Although not all their anticipated restaurants are open yet, quite a few already have. We took the opportunity of the holidays to check out Greca, their newest Greek offering.

Howard Smith Wharves is quickly becoming our new “go to” place to visit in Brisbane (along with the rest of Brisbane no doubt). Last time it was beers & lunch Felons Brewery but this time was all about Greca. Serving up delicious Greek classics good enough for the gods, great service, light air interior & a damn good spritz. Only negative we were sat at a horrible little table with barely enough room to move my chair out, we asked to be moved and were moved to another table which was fine, but it’s a tight squeeze inside. Hot tip - save room for dessert! .

This restaurant is positioned right on the Brisbane River with great views. <br/>We were shown to a table inside and upstairs with no view so that was a little disappointing. Menus are on the stylish tables and the waiter explained the menu and brought us water. We ordered several dishes to share and some wine and aperol spritz. First to arrive were olives, pickles and feta. The feta was lovely and creamy. Next two dips- taramasalata and white bean with some bread which would have been nicer if warm but was cold. The dips were delicious though. Next came spanikopita which was nice and flaky with plenty of filling. We also had chicken with artichokes, chargrilled octopus, saganaki, Greek salad, half lamb- which was served with a baked potato, and finally the eggplant. All dishes arrived fairly quickly and the first plates turned up before our drinks. Overall the food was good but a lot of the meals were swimming in oil- a pet peeve of mine. The service was friendly and the fit out is modern and sleek. Would have preferred the view and less oil but overall a good experience.

Quite good without being exceptional, it’s the wonderful staff who are the highlight of a visit here. I found the octopus tough and chewy, plus the kritharaki a little too wet for my liking. The wine also, not as chilled as a hot Brisbane day demands. Fortunately the warm welcome dictates a return visit to try further from the menu.

Greca promises so much as the Brisbane version of Apollo but struggles in a number of areas. On arrival you will notice the loud music which is an attempt to drown out the noise of the bar next door - very off putting with random beats for a large part of our meal. It is much more of a club feel with a young crowd loitering around. The service misses the mark with all our dishes arriving randomly and our main 30mins after our sides. In the food department the calamari and saginaki were the highlights while our lamb was fatty and tasteless and the village salad woefully inadequate. Avoid the braised greens, eggplant and beans. An unusual sight with most of our dishes cleared unfinished.

This is less of a review and more of a couple of suggestions, as this place is very new and has got some teething issues. <br/>1. You claim to offer a full bar?<br/>You don’t have the basics and let alone enough to cover and average bar. <br/>Very limited selection of beer and spirits. <br/>2. When the mains come out, its probably not a good idea to bring the greens and chips out over 15mins later. Just a suggestion. <br/>3. The food is pretty good and you will enjoy the meals. If your a fish eater, you will die for the melt in your mouth whole flounder. Some of the dips will have you craving more. <br/>I love Greek food and this stands up, with some minor workings and the initial madness of this restaurants popularity, I’m sure this place will find a spot. I will be back.

The aroma of sizzling roast lamb beckons as you walk into Greca, a contemporary taverna offering the sort of Greek food people fight over at Howard Smith Wharves.<br/><br/>Fronting the Brisbane River at what is rapidly becoming a must-be-seen-at location, Greca manages to evoke Greek charm married with local flavours including those which have made headlines at its Sydney sister The Apollo. What an awesome venue Howard Smith Wharves is! So many great places to hang out. We went to Greca on opening day and it was great. I’m sure it’s only going to get better and better.<br/>The staff were lovely & so attentive. The restaurant looks amazing and I loved the open kitchen.<br/>We all agreed the desserts were to die for, they were all absolutely delicious perfection!<br/>For lunch we had a few dishes to share. The grilled calamari was ok, the saganaki in honey was heavenly and the spanakopita was terrible. Oily, tasteless, soggy filo and no discernible cheese. Not the best and I would recommend avoiding it.<br/>I can’t wait to go back and try the lamb, I spotted it on several tables & it looked really good.<br/>I loved that we could split the bill evenly, brilliant.<br/>Looking forward to visiting again soon! <br/>
