Went here for a late night dinner with friends on a weekday night. There were only a few other people there, however it took awhile standing near the counter for the waiters to realise that we wanted a table for a meal.
We ordered the fried cauliflower (the subtle flavours of the cauliflower was lost amongst the thick layers of batter and was soaked with overly sweet sauce), wok-tossed morning glory (fine), beef skewers (a bit dry and tough, but with a nice smokey flavour), fried calamari (fine) and the Asian veggie salad (agreed by all the highlight, with some interesting textures and flavours).
Didn't get to try the pork belly bao, however my friend thought the pork belly wasn't fatty enough (compared to the ones she had in Taipei).
These five small dishes were enough to adequately quench four adults' hunger.
Cocktails were on the pricey end - $16-19 each.
Service (besides the initial confusion) was friendly and efficient. Ambience casual and fun.
Overall, a reasonably average but adequate late night haunt for Asian street foods.
What a cool little place. Came here for some drinks and light snacks and was very impressed. They have a wide selecetions of drinks and there snack foods are amazing. The peking duck Bao's👌👌👌. The service great and the place feels very lively.
Lovely looking place with friendly staff, really enjoyed the cocktails I had (touch of zen is excellent). If your in a group drinking definitely go for a scorpion bowl, food was exceptional! Bao's for life!
This is an Asian fusion restaurant and the decor is best described as "seedy south east Asian bar". Prices are not cheap but the food is tasty. The lunch specials are particularly good value in my opinion and will leave you full and satisfied.
Dark little place with cool music and lighting. Staff were pretty attentive after our arrival for an early dinner booking. As the night wore on there were some who certainly lost interest in customer service but some very helpful and friendly. Ran out of a particular wine after 1 glass, bit disappointing for early on a Saturday night! Ordered multiple bao bao, ribs, pineapple fried rice, calamari, all delicious and arrived pretty quickly. We were sat at a high table with stools and I'm probably showing my age when I say my bum was going numb by the end. Overall a decent night out
Love love love love pork bau. Great atmosphere for large group or for a couple on a shared table. Beer and bau, I don't need anything else. Other food is also good.
Absolutely love Kwan Brothers. Have only ever had one meal issue and it was fixed straight away. Staff are always lovely. Good value for money considering the atmosphere and quality of the food. Highly recommend all their Bao's, especially their pork.
Great atmosphere and everything I have tried here so far has been tasty. The food is well cooked and has a lot of flavor, color and full of is full of fresh herbs.
Food is full of flavour. The watermelon and pork belly skewers are great. The bao is tasty however the frozen buns hurt the stomach if you're sensitive to gluten. Otherwise food is good with attentive service
Came on a Sunday at 5, just when the kitchen opened. There were not many people, service was fast and friendly.
We ordered the pork baos special, it was crispy yet tender and soft pork pieces in nice soft steamed baos. Extremely delicious, went well with the sauces and the garnishings.
Next up was the kwans fried chicken - the fried chicken was a 3.5/5, but the standout that extremely complemented the chicken, was the sriracha mayo. If you're a big fan of sriracha like me, do order this dish or the calamari that comes with the sriracha mayo. It will blow your mind - it's extremely delectable but not that spicy at the same time.
The last savoury dish we had was the Malaysian beef rib, it was very flavourful. Sometimes though, the charcoal flavour would overpower the dish. It is also a spicy dish, best served with rice.
Lastly, for sweets we ordered the ice cream baos. The deep fried baos were so tasty and crispy, but really overpowered the ice creams. My advice would be to have the ice creams as a dip or separately by itself.
Will come back again if we're in the area, as parking is quite a problem in the valley.
I've been here twice before and the food will not disappoint. My only issue was it took way too long for the order to arrive when the restaurant wasn't busy at all (only another two tables). I got the pork bao to start. The portion was generous as some other places can get stingy with their bao fillings, but not this place. Got two very big pork belly pieces with beautiful toppings. For main I got the bento box lunch special. Again, a very generous serving. Huge fresh salad, the rice was a bit bland, the chicken was both juicy and crispy. Will be coming back to try their pork and watermelon dish as the people next to me ordered it and it looked amazing !
Beef Bao was sooooo tasty. Enjoyed our meal here a lot. Easy to over order, generous servings. Loved it, quite loud so don't go for an intimate dinner. Definitely a late night dinner/drinks venue.
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Right from the time you step inside this place the vibe is hip and the energy electric.
Table of 6 was well catered for but if 1 or 20 it doesn't matter you slot in.
Staff are amazing and catered to out needs very well without being pushy or hovering over us
The music loud hip and funk
Food, well nothing short or sensational and at $45 a head for the banquet was a great price. The owners have hit a winner.
If you can have the banquet give it a go as you will try new foods and fusions of flavour
Love love love this place
Went to this place on a Friday night, lots of atmosphere, we decided to sit up in front of the kitchen, great spot. The pork belly Bao are delicious along side the chicken Sarah's. Would come back here for the baos especially. They also deliver!
Came here for a late dinner. Had the pineapple fried rice and pork belly between us. Best pork belly we have ever had (& I've had a fair bit of pork belly in my time!). It was served with watermelon and ginger - amazing tastes! The pineapple fried rice was good; but I like some protein with my main so would recommend as a side meal to another main (hence the pork belly and we shared). Would go back again.
Went with a group of friends 2 weeks ago. Loved the fact we could share a beer tower! Had the pineapple fried rice, lovely big chucks is pineapple though it. Pork belly bow was crispy and a favourite! Also had the wings which were golden and crunchy on the outside, and not the least bit dry on the inside. Good came out reasonably quick as well!
Love this place! Had my hens night there and it was awesome, pork boa, chicken satay and the pork belly are a stand out. The cocktails are to die for and the styling is really cool. I would definitely go back and recommend this to my friends.
The crispy pork belly bao bao has got me addicted! Love the dark atmosphere, a friend and I had a quick dinner and tried a couple of dishes, Along with the pork, I had the crumbed mushrooms that I didn't enjoy (over powering crumb & very little mushroom) but the bao made up for it! Especially ordering some sriracha mayo on the side. Have also had some dishes delivered but the experience is a lot more fun to be there in person with the night market, open kitchen vibes. Nice staff, quick attentive service! Will be back 👌🏻 ❤️ see you soon pork bao bao ❤️
Ahhh I love this place! Such a great ambiance. The crumbed mushrooms are to die for, and there's so many exotic items on the menu which is refreshing. Could do with some more vegan options though, otherwise I love this place!
Pretty epic place. Food is always amazing, service is super efficient and friendly. I always order too much food when I'm here!!! Just a fun place to be on Saturday nights.
Quiet street in the valley. Great find.
Food was very much street style finger food. The 3 of us shared all the dishes. Spring rolls, mango and scallop salad and korean cauliflower were ordered.
Spring rolls were perfectly seasoned, crisp and not oily. The hoisin-like sauce was very appropriate.
Mango and scallop salad was suppose to come with crispy pork crackling. However, it was just a little dissapointing as the bit that I consume was a little chewy and not overly crackly.
Korean cauliflower is a perfect accompaniment with cider or beer.
Great to have shared meals with friends. Great spot.
Kwan Brothers was even better than I expected. Quirky interior, speedy service, good wine selection and delicious food. Our table of 4 went with the banquet option which was huge, hot and tasty.
Had a big group of 15 when we had dinner and it was amazing! The food was just fantastic. Each dish demanded a second take , particularly that pork belly with watermelon! I will be making a second visit that's for sure. The service was great too.
An enjoyable meal with the highlights being the lamb ribs and the pork belly on pickled watermelon. There was opportunity also to eat at the bar for those solo diners who prefer to do so.
Went to Kwan Brothers with a group of 40. Great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly & attentive. There's a good menu, about $15 for a smaller dish to $25 for a more substantial dish. Everyone ordered their own but the food came out so quickly, with no hassles! All comments on the food from the group were positive.
First time here last Friday and I really enjoyed. I had the Chicken Bird (As usual...chicken!) and it was really taste and fresh! The decor is also a spot on and they have good beers on tap.
Had a very enjoyable time here. The staff are lovely and the food is good. A couple of great dishes and a couple of okay dishes. Cocktails were delicious.
Fantastic atmosphere - was looking somewhere new for a light dinner. Wait staff very attentive and polite, the place has a really great vibe. Food was delicious we had a few different dishes but the stand out was the Pork Bao amazing!!!! Only criticisms were the tall chairs were a little awkward and hard to sit on, and aircon was cranked down so take a jacket.
Been here twice. The wait and bar staff are amazing at their jobs. The food is sensational and it doesn't bust your wallet. The energy of the place is great and you're well looked after from start to finish.
Really cool Asian street-food influenced restaurant/bar in the Valley. The waitress was really helpful and friendly. The plates were really small. We ordered two small dishes (around $13 ea) and 1 large plate ($24) to share between 3 people. The fried chicken was bit salty alone, however, it was crisp and tasted so good, anything but bland. The charcoal grilled lamb ribs were once again, full of flavour- a bit salty again, but still, good flavours. The large plate which consisted of crispy pork with WATERMELON. It might seem a little obscure, but the flavours really worked- my favourite of all of them. Very powerful flavours. Would recommend.
What an amazing experience we were treated to at Zomato's last foodie meet-up. We were greeted at Kwan Brother by friendly faces and a bevvy of delicious and generously intoxicating cocktails. Executive chef of Kwan, as well as across A&C, Doughnut Time, Alfredo's and the soon to be opened Les Bubbles, Norman Harvey, hosted us throughout the night, leading a DIY Dumpling tutorial and serving us up a variety of delicious dishes. My highlight was definitely the lamb ribs, which were both tender and crispy all at once! So well seasoned too. As far as service, experience and taste go, Kwan was hard to be beaten!
Last night I had the opportunity to go along to Zomato's foodie event at Kwan Brothers. I can't speak highly enough of the staff who were all extremely friendly and helpful. We started off with making our own dumplings which were then steamed and brought as our second course. All the food was amazing, the pork belly was a little fatty for my liking but most people love that! I would definitely return again for another meal, all the food was amazing and presented beautifully.
Kwan brothers is another restaurant that has been on my hit list. It is open seven days until late. And when they say late they don’t mean Brisbane late (8.30pm) but 1am late. Kwan Bros is in the same group as Alfred and Constance, Doughnut Time and Alfredo's. . The menu is filled with small plates perfect for sharing. We sat at the bar and firstly ordered the Famous Chicken Wings. They came in a crispy coating with a yummy dipping sauce. I am usually not a big fan of meat on the bone but these were meaty, juicy and delicious with a bit of chilli for an extra kick. Although they did come with some pickled pineapple which I don’t think was necessary.
Nice ambience to hang with friends and just have a variation of food. I found the menu a bit too complex when it came to food. But it's definitely tasty and the service is real good aswell
I had the Tougarashi Tofu Bao at the Kwan Brothers stand at the Ekka. If this is an indication of what they serve up in their restaurant then I can't wait to go there. Who says you have to eat rubbish at the Ekka? This food was fresh and tasty. So yum!
Amazing atmosphere. Food was pretty good. Had the crispy chicken bao bao. Amazing! Then the crispy pork belly w/watermelon & ginger. To die for! Definitely some amazing flavours. Will be back. Wouldn't recommend it as a date night, but definitely for a group of friends.
Came here midweek with a friend for her birthday. Id never been before but my friend insisted that the fried rice served in a pineapple was a must. Now I'm a super fussy eater and I loved the pineapple fried rice and the pork skewers. My friend also insisted we try the tofu squares, however I was not a fan of the texture on the inside. Outside was nicely flavoured and crunchy, the middle off putting for my taste. Would definitely be back.
LOVED IT!
always been a fan of asian food! what made me interested about eating at Kwan Brothers is the interior, very dark/monochromatic interior with dark lights and an interesting menu to match it! the food took a little long to arrive but it was definitely worth it!
Love the chicken bao and the salt and pepper squid (definitely squeeze the lime over!!) Went with friends during peak dinner time and found it a little small but is fine when non-peak times or grabbing take away! The atmosphere is good and staff are awesome and super friendly.
Love love love!! I was initally put off by the lights and decor but was so glad I fianlly tried this place. The food is excellent and although the price seems high, the servings are large and flavourful. I dream about the duck spring rolls. Other great dishes are the "sliders", squid, and ribs. If you dont like the light/music show go on a weeknight early and its less crowded.
Friendly and efficient service. Some interesting dishes going on here and thought the serving sizes were good for the price. Liked the watermelon salad with the pork - the ginger gave it a good zing and the freshness of the watermelon went well with the succulent pork, clever dish. Also liked the duck noodles.
Great. We were staying at Limes next door and were recommended this place by Friends in Syd. Nice atmosphere! great chinese food. A little expensive but it was nice to get a meal at midnight on a Thursday.
Came in to eat specific items but you guys changed the menu!!!!! But still. Loved the duck noodles and that egg! Service was a bit slow but did notice the dinner 'rush'. All in all was a good time
Scorpion Bowls. Taste nice but a bit exp
Thank you Kwan brothers!. We came here for dinner just last week and it was a really fun experience! Cocktails were created and presented so wonderfully by the talented and very friendly staff. They made us feel comfortable and were welcoming from the beginning, great atmosphere, very lively and we will definitely be back!
Great fun night out! Great food, fresh and tasty and good value for money. Good vibe and service was efficient. Highly recommend and would come back for sure
After reading negative reviews we were very pleasantly surprised!! A great night out- noisy but fun! Good portion sizes, value for money, delicious cocktails!! Go and see for yourself
I can see why everyone is harping on about the price; but my visit was perfect and served my purpose well. We wanted a few small bites to share and a cocktail, we tried 3 different types of sliders and had one of the shared cocktails - which came to $75 between 2. We were satiated, the food was tasty, was definitely enough alcohol and flavour in the cocktail, and the staff were nice. Expensive yes - but worth it.
I wanted to show my GC daughter an interesting place in Brissy and I think I chose well. Good steins of Lashes, succulent snapper, innovative sliders with Asian fusion cuisine. Very enjoyable albeit a bit pricy. Will be back.
Service is fantastic, staff are friendly and accommodating. Prices can be a bit expensive for lunch but if you bring a few friends and get a few share plates it's great.
Cool venue but food was lacking. Best part of the experience was the service. Happy, prompt, engaging, couldn't fault them. The place had a cool vibe and the communal seating was part of the fun. However, As a group of four, we ordered 6 plates and we were happy with only 3 of them. Quite small portions for the price, and teo were way over salted or bland for my taste. The lamb ribs were awesome though! Atmosphere I'd rate a 10/10 but food a 5.
Disco in my mouth. I've been to Kwan Brothers a handful of times and it never fails to disappoint. It's location in the valley makes it convenient for a late night dinner with friends before heading out on the town. If you're anything like me (you probably are if you're looking up urbanspoon reviews!) no amount of BYO wine will neither justify nor fulfil my foodie cravings, meaning I often leave cheap Chinese restaurants in the valley feeling a little bit ripped off, as though I'd wasted calories on an unfulfilling meal accompanied by a throbbing headache from the unhealthy levels of msg added. This NOT the case for Kwan brothers! Yes the servings are small...but the flavours are large! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I mean who doesn't love pineapple fried rice, deep fried ice cream and multiple disco balls hanging from the ceiling?
Alright.. Like a few others here I thought the food was pretty expensive. All of the dishes we ordered had enough flavour in them, but the portion sizes didn't seem commensurate with the cost. The general vibe of the place makes it a pretty cool place to catch up with friends though.
I don't usually write nice reviews but I can't get my meal off my mind. So delicious & fresh. The guy serving was super friendly too. Moving from Melbourne this could potentially be my new favourite place in Brisbane!
Review. Salt and pepper tofu: crispy, delicious and topped with a generous pile of herb salad. Fried cauliflower: addictive but dauntingly enormous. Bao of all kinds: fluffy, acceptable, didn't love the soft shell crab though. Beef in betel leaf: a wonderful, unique taste explosion that I can't adequately describe. The banoffee pie was a perfect balance of banana and rich cream against the sweet caramel.
The quality of food and presentation was excellent, overall. It came to about $50 a head for lunch, though, without alcohol, which is at the steep end. And the complaints about the noisy music are completely valid - who wants to have lunch in a nightclub? My mouth says a big yes, but my head isn't quite so sure.
Great food, great price, great service, great American waiter who offers ed amazing suggestions! A must!!
Really enjoyed our food, but disappointing that the four share plates (between the two of us) were all brought out at once. They kind of gave us the bums' rush by doing that and good went cold. Overall I thought the prices were reasonable and they made the place look very funky.
Visit for the pork belly sliders!. After reading all the mixed reviews about this place, we visited briefly to try the two most talked about dishes: the pork bao bao sliders and ice cream sandwiches. Both were divine! Would definitely return for these dishes alone. Prices are on the exy side but this should be expected given the location and cool factor of the place.
Amazing food and cocktails. I went here with a group of friends on a Monday evening, and even on a Monday there was a great vibe. The salmon is a must have, as is the peanut butter sundae!
Awesome!. This place is absolutely awesome. The food is delicious.
Expensive but good. The food is really, really fantastic. I loved the atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and managed to get food out quite quickly given how busy it was. My only complaint is the price ... The portion sizes are truly tiny and yet so expensive.
Best meal I've had in a long while. Based on the mixed reviews on this site I wasn't sure what to expect. We were seated straight away and the service was very attentive. The food. Oh the food. We had the pork sliders which were phenomenal, the pork ribs, some beef noodle dish and pineapple fried rice. Everything was just amazing. I never get dessert but did based on the quality of the mains and I was glad I did. Got the sticky date pudding..... There are no words for how good that thing was.
Delicious, Creative, Sensational. Oh my goooooodness this place, I could rave about it all day. The dishes I experienced (Pork belly buns, pork belly and watermelon, massaman beef curry, chicken salad) were absolutely amazing. I honestly can't say I have seen so many creative dishes on one menu. I would definitely come back here and recommend friends here (I already have been). Such a groovy establishment, and it has a really Melbourne vibe. Places like these give me such faith in Brisbane dining!
Food was sooo good! Duck spring rolls and crispy pork belly steamed bao buns for entrees, followed by Korean beef bulgogi skewers, BBQ beef bibimbap, and Malaysian beef short rib rendang curry. Everything was amazing and really fast service. Quiet cozy place, with good music in the background so you can talk easily. Draught beers on tap are well priced too!
Food is great. The Bailey sliders (particularly the pork) are delicious. Try the pineapple rice and the crispy pork salad, they are very good too.
Fun atmosphere and good selection of beers.
Be sure to book on busy nights (thurs, fri and sat) otherwise you won’t get a table.
Had heard very mixed reviews about this place, but when I visited it was absolutely on point. First thing is it's great to be able to get a decent menu late at night somewhere. This was around 9 on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was much more party with quite loud music but not unpleasant or unbearable for me. The food was sensational, we had the salt and pepper calamari, the pork belly, and the fried chicken. All with plenty of flavour, hot and fresh, and delicious. Serving sizes were reasonable for the prices, not amazing value but fair.
And it was nice that given the late hour and more relaxed atmosphere service levels were still maintained.
Great restaurant. The decoration is nicely done. They also have a big table to receive big groups. I would recommend the chicken salad. The prices are a little bit high but the dishes are pretty big. However I thought that the boas were pretty small and not filled with enough meat.
Great food, super tasty. The range of bao is awesome. Don't miss the pork belly house special.
