Review Ashton And Old - Brisbane

I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! Service is quick and efficient and we felt very welcome. Chocolate frappe was great, food was full of flavour. Will be back!

Despite being a dreary day the place was buzzing with activity. Fast friendly service, huge portions and simply outstanding coffee

Great food and great service! The waiter was friendly and even asked how we liked our poached eggs. I had the sweet potato and feta has cake with haloumi which was delicious! The others all said the pulled beef brisket was great too. We were the last people in the cafe for the day having a big family catch up. Even though it was a public holiday the staff didn't show any signs of pressure for us to leave. Looking forward to coming back and would highly recommend.

Food was great but this unfortunately was this overshadowed by the waiter. We arrived 10 mins early for an 8am breakfast booking and felt like he was trying to hurry us out before we even sat down. When the rest of our party arrived, we were catching up and the waiter asked if we were ready to order yet(at 8.03am) when one of our party said “oh I haven’t looked at the menu properly yet” she was told to hurry up by the waiter as they were fully booked and we had to be out within a set time ( 1hr 45) he also cleared the table before we all finished eating, again trying to push the point. Incidentally there were tables with reserved signs on them that sat vacant the whole time we were there. The waitress was polite and professional and did not try to rush us at all. We were in and out within the hour

Lovely little cafe, friendly staff and great food 🥰

I had a takeaway coffee from here today and it was freaking rad! Whoever made it needs run their own barista course because I couldn’t shut up all day about how much I enjoyed it. Thanks for the soy cap with honey - YUM!

Delicious food, wonderful presentation and great portions. Everything was very tasty. We also had some fresh juices with that and skipped coofee for this time so will need to come back and try it next time. I really recommend this place, good food in good price is what we all want 😊

It is rare that I give a review for which service was a highlight, particularly in Australian and even more so in Brisbane. I was a little disappointed in the food but will come back just in case it was not a true reflection, maybe our choices were not right for us.

I chose mine based on the charming servers recommendation so I expected it to be great. However, the Avo smash was served on two thin slices of Rye so you wont suffer a guilty feeling but the avo was scant and a brownish mush with a balsamic glaze to try and save it and the smallest amount of a nutty dukka amount the edges. No butter or anything to soften the crunchy offering and the lack of generosity of the avocado was most disappointing. I asked for some EVO Oil to soften it and they bought be a light not EV oil!! and didnt tell me. I of course can tell the difference so then asked for some butter, even the butter was a blend and not particularly "nice". My friend ordered Pancakes and they were lovely fluffly mounds yes but cloyingly sweet with no acidity in the dish to make it wow.

My friend had a generous mug of flat white whcih he was very complimentary about, I didnt order coffee as I was disappointed with the other offerings and had had a great coffee already earlier that morning.

Pleasantly surprised. Not only great food and service, but everything is made in house from the muffins and cakes right down to the tomato sauce!

I’d have taken pics, but I ate it all too quickly.

TL;DR: When it comes down to it, this is pretty much one of the gems within the area that is very much in reach of perfection. Most places that are this good may or may not make it to a five year mark, but with Ashton and Old they have definitely being doing something right during all that time since it is still here and standing. And that is from a good design, a menu which is inventive and shows the love of cooking, and a generally pleasant atmosphere.

Coming around to the weekend again, it was time to do some catching up with errands and whatnot - the usual groceries and breakfast were the main goes. With it being a bit on the short notice schedule - and with a bit of a schedule as well for the day - having this one on back-up was a blessing in disguise. From being commonly around the area, and noting new places while going to ones prior plans are made mentally for where to go and making mud maps of the next lot of outings - as was here. Of course, knowing about it was the first step and after reading about it, in coming here - it was on.

The whole look of the place is spacious and under-stated. Pretty much the way it goes is having a few tables around with a simple design, already set up for incoming diners, and they add in even more seating by having a booth going around the perimeter. Right at the cusp of the door is the kitchen, and there is an old rustic touch with the aesthetic having blackboards out the front showing off the menu. One last good aspect with the design is the picture gallery they have showing the old photos of the area - that is something which can add history to a place which will indefinitely become part of the lore of the nearby area.

With the service, this may well have been a case where the whole experience was close to being at the cusp of perfection ... but like with many instances, there was that one aspect which was off-center that sort of prevented it from being really in the pantheon of the great and memorable dining experiences. For here, it was the service but in one mere instance. Lady luck is what it was up to, and the first waitress that interacted with the two of us was not up to scratch with the rest of the team. Granted she may have been new and a bit green with the whole process, but it definitely would not have killed for her to put some customer service skills into practice.

It didn't go too bad at first, leading the two of us to a bench and getting the menus following up by the coffee orders. However, from there there was not much indication about situational awareness - deciding what looked good to order was quicker than normal, but regardless of that the right amount of time had elapsed to come back to the table and check on the orders. Even with a few small signals, it seemed to fall on blind eyes. Though with all that is being said and done there, one other young lady appeared to know the cues and ticks and went straight ahead and took the orders, all with some good grace to her demeanour.

So overall, the service was not awful or the worst; what is apparent is some need to train the young lady up a bit, get some general customer service cues and tricks, but aside from all of that, it was not too bad with the customer service. Pretty much what has come to be expected from the world of customer service. And before moving on, the payment is done at the counter but the rest of the meal is table service which is always about an inch of an edge in my book.

Getting onto the menu that they have, at least as far as the breakfast menu goes this is what I am talking about! While there are a few light ones to start off the selection for those with a more healthy conscious in mind, it does not take long for the creative juices to truly kick in, and taking twists on old favourites only becomes the beginning. It is enough of a cliche that I say it a lot, but this time around it was really hard knowing what to order and I could have easily stopped at the first one that piqued my interest without further advancing. Meat is pretty commonplace here, with the main source being the wonderful magical animal. By default, none of the items go above $20 which is a relief and a-steal. Last but not least with the morning meal, they have the "build your own" option which starts from the eggs on toast.

Getting onto the lunch-time meals, some of the items from breakfast hold over to then. Aside from that, they more or less keep it to some of the simple staples - think burger, pasta, salad et al; possibly a little bit of a step down from the mainstay of breakfast but nowhere near as much as it is often the case with brunch places. Finishing it all off, in the cabinet For drinks, it is a range of beers and wines, plus tea and coffee, juices, frappes, milkshakes, smoothies, and the general range of sodas.

So getting onto the meal, it went the usual route - that was to start with some coffees. As per the normal ordering, I went and got a doppio. And were we in for a treat or what with the coffee, since just seeing that the beans were from "Veneziano" is enough reason to become optimistic. In other words, Veneziano is one of the best blends that you can get in town. Once and again, the coffee here proved that the aforementioned sentence is still the case. The flavour was rich, the surge in strength was definitely noticeable and it went down a treat due to its smooth texture, decent temperature that was not too hot, and its aroma.

Well, it took quite a few candidates to narrow down what food I was going to have, which ended up being the cheese and chorizo croquettes. These came with two poached eggs - as per usual, they were requested soft with the runny yolk - maple prosciutto, some green pea puree and beetroot relish. It was really delicious, every component of it. The croquettes were cooked perfectly, complete with a good crunchy batter around the filling, where there was actual chopped up bits of sausage in the middle that were spicy and meaty. As well as that, the eggs were delicious and creamy with the yolks bleeding everywhere - though a little on the small side - plus the mixture of puree and relish added colour onto the plate, and created an interesting combination of flavours from the two ingredients. Add onto that the finish of prosciutto, and this well could have been a dish at a fancy restaurant.

My dining buddy went a route he often does, and got the breakfast burger. The signature take here was with pulled beef brisket, sauteed capsicum, fried egg, coleslaw, beetroot relish, Japanese mayonnaise and jack cheese. I had a bite of it, and it was pretty good. The meat was delicious and tender, seeping with a whole lot of flavour, and the range of vegetables on top benefited from being slightly sauteed, making a smokey aroma to the whole concoction. With the additions of the Japanese mayonnaise and jack cheese, it made a sharp and distinct after taste that really did it well. So this is another good meal here.

While going up to pay for my part of the meal, by pure impulse I saw the muffins right there on the counter and it was a different enough flavour to give it a go - a mixture of cranberry and strawberry. It was well baked and good quality, but honestly ended up being a bit on the sweet end for my taste - these were the dried sort of cranberries I am assuming, which really stole any taste from the strawberries that were in the mixture. So, while I will appreciate the quality of the ingredients used, overall the taste was just not for me.

It took a bit of a while to get here, but the rumors and hype more or less were met upon arriving. The atmosphere of the place is relaxed and leisurely, there is definitely a charm to it all with the aesthetics having a modern touch, but one that is going consistently look so without getting all dated in the end. Better yet, the menu is one that is from the mind of someone who knows how to make a good meal out for breakfast, getting all sorts of different approaches and beefing them up both quantity-wise and in quality and presentation as well. This is almost at the level of perfection, is one more worthy addition to the Camp Hill area.

The pancakes were quite good and my partners eggs with everything else was also pretty yummy, decent serving sizes. Friendly staff. My only issue is that it's a bit pricey.

Service is friendly and the staff really make an effort to have a quick chat which is nice! The food were served in generous portions and the coffee was delicious!!

Came here with a couple of girlfriends for brunch. The food was yummy but nothing to rave about. I can't actually remember what I ordered which is saying something, for me!

However, I love love love that you can purchase the plants and the terrariums that decorate the cafe! I took myself home a gorgeous terrarium in an old water jug and I love it dearly!

Do not expect the set-up is so spacious in this café. Walked in last Saturday and particularly ordered the Char Sui Fried Rice for my brekkie, of course, I would not forget to have the flat white. Well, coffee was above average; strength, aroma and smoothness were all good. However, the Fried Rice was slightly let down. First of all, the rice was too hard and it was a bit weird to add plum sauce with the rice. On the other hand, the pork and the herb were good. May I suggest if the chef can pre-cook the rice to perfection and left them overnight prior to prepare the fried rice then the effect will be better. Since the fried rice needs to be dry, adding the plum sauce would only make it too sweet and wet. Other alternative sauce will be more appropriate, which has to leave to the chef to think about....In addition, I would suggest the name to be Pulled Pork Fried Rice instead because Char Chiu is a name for a particular BBQ pork, where the pork that I had looked like the pulled pork style. All in all, overall experience is good.

I went there on a Saturday morning with friends and just got a ridiculous thin slice of haloumi, simple bread, not tasty and raw cherry tomatoes and just wasn't presentable at all for $18.
The service was good as well as the environment.
Basically writing this guys for you to improve the breakfast because you have a potential to be a good quality cafe in camp hill.
Had an enjoyable breakfast at Ashton and Old today. The food, coffee and service were of a good quality. A&O always seems to be popular and reliable. My thoughts are good, but not great for a breakfast loving foodie...

N., and I went to Ashton and Old as a quick lunch before work! We were entranced by the sounds of pork belly fried rice and so off we went! I really enjoy working with N., like me, she rarely has plans and if so it's planned so far in advance that she can easily join me in my random food adventures around Brisbane. We're both notorious in our work place for having lunches together and going to Korean fried chicken joints late after work ends haha.

Oh man, I can't believe I went without Ashton & Old in my life for so long. I'm not really a local to the area, but as a recommendation from a friend I decided to make the trip and try it out. And I'm super glad for it. I've always been a sucker for a good breakfast menu, but the owner John has truly outdone the competition with his pulled pork and eggs on bruschetta. Covered in hollandaise and a dash of hickory smoke, it was a flavour explosion. So much so, that I returned 5 days later with some mates.

I would thoroughly recommend this to every foodie of Brisbane. Some other pluses definitely include John who personally greets and seats every customer, and the coffee by Veneziano, one of my faves roasted in Brisbane.

Had the pork belly fried rice = yum! Coffee was good too... Lovely interior, staff attentive. I will be back :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

What a lovely cafe! The staff were really friendly and helpful & attentive. The food was delicious and the juice I had was outstanding! Will definitely go back!

This place used to be my favourite! The good baristas arent there. Coffee comes out cold, burnt and milk is terrible. The chef has been changed and after my recent meal I nearly threw up. My eggs were horrible. My 2 year old daughter makes them better. Sorry guys...will not be coming back. Its a shame because this place used to be incredible. Put on real baristas and qualified chefs and I might come back!!!

I just had the most wonderful lunchtime experience at Ashton & Old. I was in a party of four and we all absolutely loved our meals. They were fresh and very tasty, and the coffee to follow, was superb. The waitstaff were attentive and very friendly and the chef came out from the kitchen to apologise for the (small) delay in getting our meals to us, as he was still familiarising himself with the new menu. We all commented, on leaving, that we will definitely go back again ... and again.

Won't Be Back.. Used to love this place. The girls behind the counter were always friendly and made you feel welcome, coffee was always superb. Seems as though the owner didn't know a good thing when he had it. Horrible atmosphere now, the service was subpar and the food tasted like it came from the frozen food isle at woolies.

Very pleasantly surprised. I am the owner of a cafe and our chef took me to Ashton and Old for a lunch after a work shopping trip.. I always like to see what others are doing but to be honest I did not expect anything too different. I was very surprised. We had 2 different main courses, a lamb salad and a confit tuna dish. They were not huge dishes but we had ample. The prices were reasonable and the food was different and absolutely superb. I would have been proud if this cafe were mine. We will definitely be back

Bad service. We used to come here every fortnight for breakfast however, the last 3 times we have been the service has been horrible and the poached eggs are harder than boiled eggs
Greg J Kentish
Terrible experience Sunday morning stood at counter for 3 mins totally ignored by girl at coffee machine, lost a potential $100 a week customer
Margie Collard
Not allowed to sit at a table...despite ordering meals and drinks. My partner and I love the food and coffee at this cafe. However we are never permitted to sit at a table as they are for 3 or more diners only. The service staff seemed hesitant to tell us this each time we have been ushered to the cafe bench or kerbside seats. There are always spare tables when we request one. Dining side by side isn't enjoyable and given we do order meals, not just coffee it seems bad customer relations not to offer a place to sit and converse while facing each other

We had some amazing coffees and our breakfast was wonderful. The trail mix and the omelette. We picked up a freshly made cookie. I wanted to go back for another. We will be back for sure.

I came here after trying to go somewhere else down the road that was full, there was only two tables taken here so it was nice and quiet and had a relaxing atmosphere with a lovely decor, i had a piccolo which was nice and ordered the hash cakes for lunch and it was so tasty, it was really small though and i left hungry! It was so yum i could have ordered another one if the meal hadnt been $17. This is a nice spot for a light lunch.

Diner from Brisbane - Breakfast. The coffee was fantastic as always but the food and the service were both disappointing. Ordered a meal with poached egg and a potato cake as the main ingredients. Warm egg and cold potato just don't work. The coffee arrived promptly but getting someone to take my food order when I so clearly was ready to order made me feel like I was just interrupting their day. Think I'll just do coffee from now on and maybe make it take out so they don't have to have their day disrupted by me for too long.

Love this place. Great for lunch and breakfast. Food and coffee consistently great. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Love the seasonal menu changes and love that they split the bill.

Good coffee. Went here with my Mum and sister on a Sunday, and not only were the staff friendly, they kept the place open beyond closing while we enjoyed our coffees, teas and cakes. Recommended! Plus like their cycling jersey too.
Lara
Great all round. The customer service is great and the staff are friendly. They have an interesting menu with tasty food and the coffee is very good.
Food Critic
I am surprised that Ashton and Old have such a low rating on Urbanspoon. The coffee was nice and strong (once it had cooled down). The food was well presented and well seasoned. Items on the menu aren't marked gluten free, but they do have GF bread and were quite happy to substitute menu items :-),

Everyone I know loves this place - superb coffee, lovely owners and staff and delicious food. Simple and done well. Fancy can be fussy and over the top this is just right and appeals to all from your grandma to the kids. Make the effort and visit
Eating Out
Extremely disappointing food. The coffees were great but the meals were terrible. Ordered very simple breakfasts - but they were shocking. Eggshells through the poached eggs, very brown avocado and soggy bread. Was very disappointed. Strongly advise against eating here.
Dee
Sam just catered for our daughters 21st Birthday. The food was divine. Simple to heat up and serve. All of the guests loved it. Thank you Sam and the Staff at Ashton and Old.
Jelena
Delicious food but far too expensive for the little amount of food you are served.
Bec
Yum. Visited this place for the first time after already living in the area for 2 years and had always been curious about it. We came on the right day because they started a brand new breakfast menu that day. The food was delicious, serving size a tad small for the price, but definitely didn't disappoint on taste. My only other criticism would be that they need to change their brand of soy milk! So good, I believe they were using, tastes terrible in coffee. I would definitely frequent there if they changed that one little thing. Love my coffee!

I have been here a few times now and while the food was reasonably good the service has always been slow and diorganised but after today's debacle we wont be back. Went for breakfast. After waiting half an hour and not seeing either our coffee or our food while customers around us got there orders we asked where our coffees and food were. We were told there was a 'glitch' with the ipads and they would sort it out. The waitress promptly ran off to serve other customers and we were left sitting there again waiting with a baby that was becoming increasingly bored and restless. It became obvious they had lost the order altogether. When i asked if this was the case i was told they would sort it out. In the end we told them we couldnt be bothered waiting any longer (particularly when they had not given any indication of how much longer this would be!). As we were leaving someone i assume was the manager asked if i at least wanted to take our coffee away as they were now ready after well over half an hour. Like that somehow makes up for our wasted morning, a now cranky baby and empty stomachs! We wont be returning. Advice to A&O: if you mess up an order, apologise tell your customer how long it will be until the new order will be with them, tell them it will all be free and preferably offer them a free meal or coffee on their next visit. We can't help mistakes but it is how you fix them that counts. Oh and it would also be good if your waitress notices that customers she took an order from half an hour ago are still sitting there with nothing but water (although i dont blame the waitress as they are clearly understaffed).

It takes a lot for me to want to go public with a restaurant review but the experience I had at this place was like nothing before - it was disgraceful. Went out for a leisurely Sunday breakfast only to cop abuse and a whole lot of attitude from the barista, if that wasn't enough when management was told - the most they could offer up was a half hearted sorry. NOT GOOD ENOUGH - you want to charge up market cafe prices then you need to offer commensurate service. I still can't believe I spent $40 to be made to feel like a second rate citizen. If that wasn't enough - food was very average.
DianaW
Diana. Stopped by here for a coffee. Although the barista took great care with the pouring etc it was lacking in strength for my taste. Nice creamy flavoured brew though.
Cathy Bateman
Not up to expectations. Food was nice enough but expensive for what you got.. Service not professional - Said we were sharing entrée but had to ask for extra plates and tables being cleaned with strong smelling spray was annoying. Won't go back and now puts me off their restaurant close by.
GreenBeen
Coffee week & insipid, slow inattentive service, uninspiring menu

Coffee & Cake. Called in for a coffee and something sweet at Ashton & Old on an overcast Sunday morning. Greeted at the door with a smile and big 'hello'- exactly what we needed. Coffee was good, service friendly and the Raspberry & Yoghurt Cake with Vanilla Bean Cream - yum. Great little find.

Went there with a friend for lunch, had the asian noodle salad with peanut dressing .... Was absolutely delicious! Being asian myself, this dish was spot on. Very refreshing.

Great coffee Great breakfas.... Great coffee
Great breakfast - always consistent.
Great service
Jules333
Went recently while on holidays and had the worst experience of my life. The food was bland and tasteless and my partner was very ill the day after. Very disappointed. My advice - go somewhere else. There's great places nearby. Don't bother
Alida
Not Worth It. Ordered the bruschetta. Was the worst excuse for a bruschetta I have ever encountered. Came on untoasted luke warm sourdough bread with 3 paper thin slices of very poor quality tomato with a bit of onion slapped on the top. The menu said it would come with feta cheese, however was missing. Buffulo mozzarella would be much nicer option. Was bland to taste and definitely not worth the money. Coffee was quite good though. Would not go back.

Recent Breakfast 23/12/12. Cafe fresh&comfortable. Coffee great.Food not so great.Serving on small side, corn fritters unseasoned, little filling and doughy in taste.
Also fetta stuffed mushrooms surprisely bland as well.Surprised to hear from waitress 2 pieces of toast $6.
Lots of potential but must pay more attention to food taste.Staff appeared to not like constructive feedback.
Needs to polish up their act as there is a lot of competition on the breakfast scene.
At the present standard would not return for breakfast.
Becandfood
Great food & service. After reading some of the reviews on here I was a bit concerned going to this place for lunch as I was expecting bad service and average food. I was however impressed. They were holding a Melbourne cup luncheon inside but kindly offered us a table outside, brought out a drawing board for my 14 month old and helped me decide on my lunch (out of the 2 options I had) which was amazingly delicious and fresh. The coffee was a little bit average however overall it was a great experience and I would definitely be dining there again. Also, their breakfast menu looked inviting and innovative e.g crushed poached eggs!

Friendly service and good food. Nice experience had at Ashton and Old. The service was friendly and kitchen staff very accommodating with breakfast menu changes (very impressed as breakfast menu had officially finished (30 mins past) and lunch menu was being served). If your looking for something a little different for breaky or lunch definitely worth a try!
Dobsessed
Very nice setting but very disappointing food. The corn fritters were so dry and basically unedible. They took our coffee before we finished drinking them and never once asked how things were.
Mee
I was disappointed in my meal. I ordered a squid salad, and the squid was chunky deep fried calamari rings, bland, rubbery and not what I expected. The 'Asian' style salad was a great texture, but stringy with snow pea sprouts and also lacking flavour. I was wondering if I made a bad choice from the menu, looking around me everyone else's meals looked much more tempting. Having said that, staff were very friendly and the coffee was great.
TJM
Ok, but could be great. Have been here a couple of times now for lunch. They serve fairly simple food which is fine, but if you are going to serve simple food then you need to do it really well. The calamari was tasty but it was tough - how difficult can it be? It's just lack of attention to detail. We had something wrapped in a soft totilla - it hada absolutely no presentation and didn't look inviting. They describe themselves as a 'pantry' but you can't browse anything because there is not much on offer and it's all up behind the counter. some dressers with some product displayed would lift the atmosphere........just a few things needing some attention to detail. The people are great and the place is clean light and airy, and service is friendly.

What a lovely surprise. My family went to have breakfast with no expectation. Firstly we were impressed with the kid friendly welcome with drawing boards for our twin daughters. Coffee arrived promptly which tasted great. Main dishes of Corn fritters and the Big breakfast was divine. I am normally very fussy with breakfast because in this day and age, not many chefs can actually deliver a very soft poached egg when asked and Ashton and Old earned their brownie points on that score because the hallmark of any good breakfast are the eggs first.-. Another thing i was impressed was the crispy bacon, again a lost art in many places.. If they keep serving food of this high standard , then we are going to be regulars.
Contrail
Great Food. A nice cafe with good coffee. The food has improved and a great menu, try the corn fritters. The big let down is the service, whilst the cafe staff are very friendly and attentive, food service for a second time is very slow, ie 45min for breakfast. Worth a look but keep in mind it could be a bit of a wait.
Foodie Lover
Excellent breakfast. Coffee is ok, but the food is what I would go back for. Nice clean restaurant and good service.
Tracy
Friendly and attentive service and a modern but cosy atmosphere with an option to sit outside in the sun. Great coffee as well, and I was given a bottle of water straight away. For the price if all up $20 I was expecting a large breakfast for my hungry, pregnant self. I ordered bacon, eggs meal that comes with toast, tomato and sausage. It was not a problem to exchange the sausage with a side of house made baked beans; I also ordered a side of mushrooms. I was disappointed with the size of my meal. I got one piece of unbuttered
VK
A mixed review. First off credit where credit is due. The coffee was good, the food was good. It was a solid breakfast option for being a local. But not good enough to compete with a similar wander to Ave Cucina, or a short drive up to Pearl or Foxy Bean.

But now the gripe. The chronology is as follows
The first of our party of 3 arrives and orders a coffee
The coffee arrives after a reasonable wait time because it is busy
The second and third members arrive and order a mug of flat white and an earl grey tea
After another short wait a cup of flat white arrives... a cup we work out later was not one we actually ordered
breakfast arrives at the point in time we have to ask what has happened to the tea.. seconds before it arrives. just in the nick of time to still be ok.
two more coffees are ordered.
by the time breakfast is finished the mug of flat white originally ordered arrives.
near the end of drinking the mug we ask what happened to the other coffee, the tell us the other 2 coffees are on their way... we quizzically tell them since i have now had 2 we assumed the mug was the second coffee so there should only be one more to come.
after some significant wait we ask where the final coffee that was confirmed got to
they hurry off and promptly return with a flat white freshly made... the coffee is in a cup with lipstick around the rim
we return the coffee and ask for a fresh cup to replace it. the response is nonchalant, but a replacement is promised.
Eventually the last coffee in a fresh cup arrives.
We go to pay and are ignored for a couple of minutes until one waitress cottons on to the fact that there are customers waiting to exchange money for goods and services. Having ordered 4 coffees and 1 tea, our bill consists of 6 coffees and one tea plus the breakfasts. 3 of the coffees were delivered, 1 coffee we didnt order was delivered, and we seem to have been charged for 3 coffees that were never delivered. Possibly from each time we asked where our ordered coffees had gone or when we asked for a replacement for the one in the dirty cup.

This waitress at least graciously removed the extra mystery coffees and the one we did order that came in a dirty cup.
All- in-all a very convoluted and confusing experience that would have been at home in the twilight zone. Brisbane's most poorly organised cafe or Brisbane's best new morning comedy club? I'm not quite sure.

The food was good, the coffee was good, the organisation was abysmal. It goes beyond acceptable teething problems for a new cafe. A definite improvement is needed if Ashton and Old hope to gain new customers and retain them. I won't be returning.

First time at ashton and old. This is a great place to have break'y or lunch i have been here for both and it was excellent .
my wife had the choc brownie and i had the banana bread and both were lovely

some different breakfast options too such as the unusual pan fried black pudding, cheddar, avocado & corn salsa on tortilla ($16) that taps into the current mania for Mexican style flavours. There was no question this dish was going to be my choice. Others on the table ordered the braised mushrooms, poached eggs
