Review Sushi Mura - Brisbane

_ Wilson _
Great food and price! If there were more options for sushi I would have given it 5 stars. There were veggo options for other dishes but sushi is in the name of the restaurant. Pros: - good food - quick service - really nice restaurant set up - pricing is really reasonable Cons: - not many (if any) sushi vego options.

Nice place. Had the sushi rolls from here last time and was fresh and yummy. This time had the sushi platter and miso soup. Tasty but not like wow to die for. Only complaint is rice was still warm so a little mushy. Would come again for casual dining food etc. Price is reasonable.

Good - not long for waiting the food Good - food taste yummy and fresh Order menu first and payment first before sit in the table, so you must consider what do you want to eat first, lucky you can see the menu on online so you can see first at home. But you can also choose the dish in the restaurant

Love your sushi. Won't go anywhere else but very disappointed you are closed on Sunday. Is this only temporary?

This is the worst sushi I have ever had. The sashimi was low quality and very chewy/stringy. The chicken katsu didn’t even taste like chicken. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Feels like I’m gonna get food poisoning, can’t tell if it’s just from how bad the food is or if it’s because they let it sit in the window and I’m going to get legitimately sick. I’d give this place 0 stars if I could.

Great sushi with suck a variety for everyone eat in or takeaway the friendly staff will look after you

Staff were polite and food came very quickly. Spicy salmon, spicy tuna, spider roll, tempura vegetables, edamame, miso soup, seaweed salad and green salad were all delicious and I would certainly go back again. Reasonably priced for the portion sizes given; And with plenty of room between the inside tables it didn't feel cramped or crowded.

Friendly & fast service. Fresh and delicious food. Ex’s what you should expect from today area. This is our ‘go to’ lunch spot if you are in the mood!

The food is always delicious and their customer service is spot on perfect. Love sushi mura and it’s my go-to Japanese restaurant to visit when I’m in Bulimba

Love their Sashimi salad when it’s covered with long beautiful cuts of sashimi. I’ve gotten it 4 times and each time it’s different. When it’s dice sashimi I feel like it’s not the best cut of the fish and presentation isn’t as great, but all in all, ok. Hate sitting at sushi bar and ordering and they get us food from takeaway fridge?!?! We want fresh sushi made in front of us “at the sushi bar”?! Never busy, which is nice, and concerning. Ha!

Food remains excellent, however they under supply sauce (in my opinion) for the karage, providing a grossly inadequate amount, if you ask for enough to complete your meal, they ask you to pay more. I love it here, but I won't be returning. Pity.

Great cheap eats, served quickly and with a smile. You can choose from ready made sushi and sashimi in the counter, order items to be made up fresh, or try their hot meals. We love their combo sushi boxes, sashimi, miso and kaarage curry. We are local to the area and this is often a go to if the cupboards are empty.

They have most delicious fresh food and they are always accommodating for gluten free requirments. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

Hands down best Sushi in Bulimba! Not only is the staff always very courteous, the quality of the Sushi is fantastic compared to any other Sushi restaurant in Brisbane that I have been to.

The sushi rolls were reasonably priced and extremely delicious. I really loved how flavourful all the rolls were. The aburi salmon nigiri was amazing! It was charred to the right amount. The rice could have been more sticky and the rolls could have been packed together more tightly, but I would definitely come back.

I come to sushi mura quite a bit to get take away or eat in. They make good sushi - I always get the rainbow roll which is delicious or the baby boxs. Quite friendly staff and okay service.

Love this place. Fresh sushi. Love the soft shell crab and everything else we had - prawn / salmon / tuna. Not enough green tea though - small teapot only.

Good service
Staff always friendly and quick
Go to place for fresh sushi fix
Authentic curries and tempura dishes if you are after something more substantial

Can't really say I recommend it.

I'll give some context: my girlfriend and I do alphabet date nights (Google it) on Wednesdays. Tonight was her night, but she postponed the plans on account of my needing to do dishes. It all changed again when I found out that an anonymous hero had done the dishes intended for my doing. Normally under such circumstances we would default to a casual dinner date, but I had eaten a pizza by myself while waiting for her to arrive, because I'm a woeful, comfort-eating tub of human waste. So, not having a set protocol in place for such a scenario, we drove aimlessly for a while until we wound up in Bulimba. We walked up and down the main street, not quite sold on any of the restaurants. At one point we almost ate at Panchos Italian, but decided not to because a restaurant with such unusual presentation and no customers is suspicious (we should have probably just gone there). Just as we were about to give up, Sushi Mura shone its deceptive aura upon us. Like the unwitting guppies we are, we shuffled on in to the maw of the anglerfish.

Nah, it actually wasn't that dramatic - it was just a bad restaurant.

So I was already full of greasy pizza goodness. I asked for something small and vegetarian. Through the struggle with the waitress' language barrier, we managed to agree on sushi rolls from the "cupboard". I dipped the roll in soy sauce and took a bite. Tough and chewy. Until Sushi Mura, I didn't even know sushi could go stale. I hadn't spagged food into a napkin since I was like ten or something, but thanks to these guys, I got to relive that. As we got up to leave, I showed the sushi to the waitress, demonstrating with my finger the leathery characteristic of the rice. She did not charge me for the rolls. The shame on her face let me know that she knew all along about the status of the rolls she tried to sell me.

TL;DR: I got there by accident. They struggle with English and sell stale food.

Ordered the teriyaki salmon box from Mura Sushi today, the service was really quick and pretty nice food. Definitely worth a visit, price is reasonable and good location.

I can't begin to describe how happy I feel when I have food from Sushi Mura in front of me. Everything my tongue has touched from their menu has tasted like gold! The karaage is money, the special sushi is exactly that. I had the ramen on the weekend and it restored my faith in humanity.

Came here before the movies on Saturday night. Ordering was a little tricky as the waitress didn't understand some of the questions I was asking about the menu and they didn't wait long enough for us to make a decision on our order. They came over three times to see if we were ready to order. I think only a few mins had past in that time. We ended up ordering pork gyoza, chicken karaage , tempera vegetable and grilled salmon to share. All food came out promptly and was served hot. The tempera and kaarage weren't too oily which was great. This food was fine but not great. This wasn't the most authentic sushi I've had (i.e. Oiishi at Sunnybank) but it was fine for a quick bite before a movie. That being said I don't think I would be in a hurry to return, I think I would try some of the other new places on Oxford St first.

This is my favourite take away sushi joint. Love the teriyaki and rice paper rolls. Never had anything bad from there yet. Service is very friendly and they are always happy. Will keep popping in for quick bites. Yum!

I always love going to have lunch at Sushi Mura. The sushi tastes brilliant and I love the teriyaki. The staff are friendly and allow you to have anything from the menu.

Delicious Miso soup and Teriyaki fish, friendly staff

In an ‘eat street’ such as Oxford Street there’s not much time to mess about – it’s do or die. Sushi Mura is definitely in the first camp. It’s a very different kettle of fish to its rival down the road where brusque efficiency greets you, rarely with a smile, no matter how many times you have been there before. Sushi Mura is instantly a warmer, gentler sort of affair. The Japanese staff greet you with a look of genuine pleasure that you’ve chosen to dine with them and sweep you into the depths of the restaurant with a polite arm outstretched behind you as if to embrace you into their own home. There are plenty of booths to choose from and it is table service although the counter at the front of the shop does a roaring trade of takeaway too if you’re in a rush. Whilst it is a ‘fast-food’ restaurant the fairly dark, cave-like room has a cocoonish sense of calm. There are no chefs on display of frantic staff bustling around you, just a relaxed vibe of contentment. Kids are very welc

Ordered too much. Came here with the clan so was keen to try different types of dishes. Gyoza was OK and yakitori average. Takoyaki looked like the standard frozen kind. The tonkotsu shoyu ramen was OK - not world beating. However the karaage donburi was really good and went down well with the crowd - karaage well cooked and the curry sauce was a great addition and welcomed. Read the other mixed reviews but today, no demerits - were we lucky?

I ordered sashimi set the fish stank horribly. i wanted to puke so didnt want to eat any pieces after tasted.
never visit it again.

the waitresses barely speak english. so, it was so hard to communicate. and got me the wrong entree.

horrible night.

A train without the train. As another review said, I went after it was compared to kotobuki. What a joke, koto forever!

I have been here twice now. The first time was brilliant and the food was delicious. The second time we took friends and the service was terrible, the waitress got our booking wrong and then we had to wait 40mins to be seated. We would have gone elsewhere but we had talked this place up and our friends had never been. The teriyaki fish is really good and the meals are filling. Nice food but turned off by the rude service which is a shame,I will explore other Japanese restaurants in Brisbane in the future.

Terrible!!. Yuck!
the service is terrible. The waitresses are rude and treated us badly, waitress asked "so wa yooo wan?" I said "umm, I dont know, you havnt given us a menu" she got one, later she again asked "okeeey wa yoo wan?" I ordered. "Terriyaki chicken?" to my friends "the havent recieved a menu yet".. waited 10 minutes to get water. food oily.
Katie
Delicious Lion King sushi roll (8 pieces). Highly recommended. High quality sashimi. Teriyaki chicken a little too salty & needed more sauce. Reasonably priced menu.
Beth
Paid this place a visit because someone compared it to sushi kotobuki, it was okay but people please do not be fooled Sushi Kotobuki is the one and only place for the most amazing sushi experience ever!
Juliess
I read the review someone wrote about this being better than kotubuki! It was. I thought it looked a bit takeaway than dine in but all our dishes were fresh, tasty and served quick. A really good cheap Japanese restaurant. Staff were so so friendly and sweet

Love this place!. I am such a regular now! Best beef udon around..it's not on the menu but if you ask nicely they will happily make it for you! The sushi is always fresh and tastes amazing! I don't go anywhere else now I have found this little gem!

Awesome! We've been here a few times and always impressed. The sushi rolls are great, spring rolls are some of the best we've had and the gyoza are good too. I always get the udon soup, really good! I can never finish it! We love coming here and great value. Never costs more than $55 for 2 people.
Crazydazy
Menu is too small, yakisoba was too small and not enough beef but tasty. Udon soup was way too sweet but good size. Sushi rolls were excellent but not enough option. Price and service excellent! Don't think I will come back

Great sushi. The sushi is fresh and tasty and there are some different fillings from the usual range at other outlets. I loved the seaweed in tofu which had a lovely sweet-ish flavour and the whiting was great too although a bit too much mayonnaise for my liking. My son had the cooked tuna and avocado which tasted pretty average - as usual not good quality tuna and he said it was also a bit sweet. The miso soup had a nice flavour but was very plain with no little pieces of tofu or anything else to add interest but it was only $1.50 per cup so I couldn't complain. I look forward to returning and trying a larger meal.
John
Really good food and excellent service! The sushi is great!

So far, so good. Have visited here once only and enjoyed it. Would definitely try again. Here's what we ordered;
Edamame - as expected, nothing too special
Vege tempura - quite good, have probably had better
Vege Gyoza - these were a bit disappointing, fried gyozas were a bit tough and difficult to eat
Grilled salmon nigiri - really delicious, would come back just for this!

Finally a decent place to eat on Oxford St. Huzzah. This place is cheap and has awesome Japanese food. The Gyoza is beautiful and the chicken karage is some of the best you will find in Brisbane.

I have concerns when Japanese restaurants are NOT owned or operated by Japanese, however I gave it a try. Several tables were left dirty with dishes for over an hour and there were only 2 tables occupied. Share plates of food were served with no additional plates to eat from - when asked for plates and drinks we never received. Had empty "Kikkomen" Japanese soy sauce on shelves and suspected filled with Chinese soy. Pork Katsu was not edible - brown pork with a very strong taste - that offensive I could not eat it. Teriyaki had some strange sauce and condiments and karaage was greasy and tasted like it was cooked in old oil. I won't step foot back in there. Should have went with my first hunch - no Japanese Chef no go!

Not great at all, not authetic at all, had katsu don and the pork was not edible, it didnt taste very fresh, restaurant itself was not very clean, service was average. I would not go back, a shame because no decent japanese in oxford street.

Great food, service and value for money. Thanks to friendly staff. Excellent celebratory meal with a difference.

Great sushi. Finally, decent sushi on Oxford street providing competition for the woeful sushi train outside the cinema! Yes, this Korean-run place is not as cheap as Kotobuki, but parking is a little easier (paid parking in the carpark for a nominal fee) and you won't be queueing for ages to get a table. The sushi is right up there with the best of the cheap-and-cheerfuls, highly recommended is the grilled salmon nigiri which is on the must-order list for our weekly or twice-weekly visits. If you live nearby or are heading to Oxford St for the movies, you can't go past this little gem.
Eatingaroundtown
Delicious!. Finally a decent sushi venue on Oxford St! The grilled salmon is perfection and the pork gyoza is a must! The food is served quickly and with produce so fresh its a wonder the salmon isn't still kicking. I will definitely be returning!

Awesome food and it's BYO!!!
Only complaint was it was a bit hot even though its aircon'd the hot air just comes straight through the big doors
Joel M
As good as Kotobuki? I think you've had too much sake.
Tam
Authentic and delicious! We've been here many times and have never been disappointed. Wish i could say the same for Sake.

Kotobuki rival?. Hold the phones ladies and gentleman.... We have a new sushi master in town to rival the almighty powerful kotobuki (refer to kotobuki review of August 2012). Interesting dishes, fresh, great service. Note, you're going to be paying Oxford street prices so if anyone whinges about that you are clearly retarded. They pay more rent, they charge more, use your heads. Anyway, miso soup dominates, get that in ya for pre game. Anything salmon related. Haven't seen any celebs there yet so kotobuki wins on that front still.... I even hear the sushi station down the road are being extra friendly... Worried much? Eat here.

Xoxo RRR

Yum. I am so glad there is a new sushi place on Oxford. These guys make great sushi and every time i have been there (which is a lot) i have always been satisfied. One of my favourites on the street

I have sampled everything from the menu and have found it to be the best of the quality. Johnny and his staff do their best to provide great friendly service and a wonderful atmosphere!

First of all, let me just say that Im glad there is another Asian restaurant in Bulimba; there is room for more.
There was some slight disappointment when finding out this was another Korean business doing "Japanese" food and marketing itself with a Japanese theme and menu. Many of the dishes are not very authentic which leads me to wonder why Koreans don't put out great Korean food, with Korean flavour. It's obviously a marketing strategy that's becoming more popular in Brisbane.

Anyway the service is fine, just don't ask any questions in Japanese.

Food is also ok, but caveat emptor!
Amy
Best sushi in brisbane!!! I love special rolls & teriyaki chicken!yummy yummy!!!

Finally a restaurant that is truly great food at excellent prices in Bulimba. Fresh, cheap sashimi, great set menu deals. Four of us just ate for $73 including drinks and corkage!

Fantastic sushi, have been back many times and never been disappointed. Always fresh and staff are very friendly!
Ben
Nice!. Actually decent...much better than scummy Sushi Train up the road.

Props y'all

...possible that we have ordered the wrong things, or that Mura Sushi was having an off day we were there. But with so much there is on offer in Bulimba, I'm not sure if we will be back any time soon.
