Review Bean. - Brisbane

Hau Nguyen
This cafe is like a hidden gem, a little hidden away in the alley way but it’s all safe. It has the West End vibe. Coffee is amazing. The vibe is inviting and laid back, it kind of takes you away from the hustle bustle of the city.

Little gem in the city! Hidden in the alleyway, small but cosy, I almost don't want the world to know but great things are best shared! 😄 Happy hours everyday! Friday happy hours 4pm - 8pm! My favorite cocktails are the lychee peppermint mojito and Facebook Spritz🍹 You're welcome 😊 Ps their coffee is great! Amazing actually. Love their sandwiches too.

We found a cool coffee house, 'Bean', tucked in a quiet laneway off George St. The cafe has a friendly owner and staff, lamps, lounge chairs, books, air con and groovy subdued 'background' music, to help you retreat a bit from the hustle and heat of the City in summer.

I love the atmosphere and feel of this place. It's hidden away, quiet and beautifully furnished. Food was great. Be aware, it's through an ally and in the basement so can be fun to find.

Discover!!! That's the right way to describe this wonderful place. Not visible from the street and most certainly under the "Discover me" category this wonderful little cafe is a treat to visit and catch up. Good coffee and great atmosphere.

Honestly my favourite to grab a coffee and bite from. Super chill place to hang and observe such suave and chic fashion on passing. Absolutely must grab one of their cold brews, either take it on your way or drink it within the one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

A special place to meet. Staff are so very friendly. Good selection of refreshments too. Looks like some people come here to work from their laptops. This place includes board games and diversions to make hanging out there for hours an end in itself. Best thing is the vibe. It really deserves 5 stars, and I have only marked it down because there is no in-house chess set. They can expect a donation of one very soon.

This hidden gem brings a sense of adventure to your routine café visit and boasts a groovy interior with a warm and homely atmosphere that makes up for the lack of windows and natural light. Great seating options and excellent coffee, my only criticism would be that my request for their largest size latte still came out in a small glass. Otherwise a great little spot away from crowds.

Cozy little cafe that might be a little hard to find. The staff were really welcoming and the mocha was really rich with chocolate, but lacked a strong coffee taste. Nevertheless, it was a really delicious drink and I'll be back to get another coffee or two.

warm little underground cafe, literally a hidden gem! great for coffee catch ups or when I just want to hide away from the hustle and bustle from the city. Friendly service and great coffee.

wow! what a place! if one is looking for a serene place (within cbd but cut off from cbd) for good coffee and sit for long time working on laptop, or read a book, or draw some painting or anything - this is the place!
hidden from the tussle and hussle of downtown's life, it is an underground cafe with the enterance veiled by a London-styled telephone booth, and even this otherwise visible telephone-booth is hard to locate from the usual walking paths of brisbane's cbd - PREFER TO USE LIVE LOCATION TRACKER to easily reach this cafe.once in, a person would find this cafe super-quite (ironic to the life of cbd), comfy and homely. more than that the staff here is super friendly - it took me a while to assess who amongst the present people were staff! it seems that those who know the place prefer to frequent it more often - thats the warmth this cafe has to offer.
i'd visit it again and again, and hope that the quality is maintained. it is rare that i would stick 5 stars onto a place, but the uniquely amicable staff, apt interior, and creativity in effectively hiding it amidst cbd, earns it this spot. i hope that they continue to do well :)

I went on two occasions. The first time was on a Thursday; I had an iced mocha which was really good ☺️. The second time was on a Friday with friends. It was much busier then and quite noisy too. The zebra mocha was alright.

Best Coffee in the city, I love the design of the place and the staff are friendly and considerate. I often visit to introduce friends to the city or get some work done and I always feel welcome.

This quirky little find was the perfect place to grab a morning coffee. The staff were very friendly and my coffee order came out quickly. Tasted amazing and pretty good value for money.

Cool funky venue tucked away in an alley. Very funky fit out downstairs, comfy chairs and great atmosphere. Nice and friendly staff and the coffee was ok. Not the first place I would go to if I want a coffee fix but will definitely be returning for the atmosphere.

The cafe is very cosy and is tucked in an alleyway which can be easy to miss. The service is average. The employees were very nice. I ordered a hot tea which came quickly but the steak took a very long time to come which was quite frustrating. Also, just a heads up that your phone may not receive service inside this cafe.

Visiting from Melbourne. Grabbed a takeaway coffee. They didn't seem to be serving breakfast. Down an alleyway and downstairs giving it a really cool, 'hidden bar' vibe - dark, cool interiors. Very 'Melbourne hipster'. Really comfy and cosy - would be a cool place to hang out. Barista was really happy and friendly and knew all the regulars coming through. Coffee was good - probably equal best for my Brisbane trip. They have an extensive coffee and drinks menu. Service was quick.

If overly noisy and crowded places ain't your thing come by and chill out at Bean.
The staff are very friendly and always great time chatting with them and the Matcha green tea latte is my go to and espresso martini is perfect. highly recommend this place give it a go!

Whenever I'm in the city, I always pop by this spot. Good coffee, really friendly staff and a wonderful space to relax. Please don't ever close down
Foodie On The Road
Really great atmosphere. Staff were extremely friendly and the cappatinis were great and well priced.

Cute as coffee shop hidden down an alleyway in Brisbane CBD. Walked past a sign a few times and it looked a bit dodgy but it was quite surprised when I walked down the stairs. I can't say anything about the food because I didn't try it but the coffee was pretty decent and the staff sounded like they really knew their stuff. Its a very comfy and cosy place with board games to play with, great place to hang.

I really liked this place, definitely a good place to escape to. This place is pretty hidden. It's like a dead space within a big noisy city where you can enjoy your inner peace. It's located at the alleyway few shops down Miss Kay's burger. I am not a coffee person at all so I can't really judge their coffee for you. But they have pretty reasonable price for coffee and hot chocolate. Serving size is the standard one. I would say reason why I liked this place is probably because you are pretty much free to do anything. They offers board games to play. :) I can probably just hang with some friends there for hours.

Everyone in there had a beard (excepting the female customers). Food quite expensive (got the corn fritters $20! wanted chicken wrap but had sold out by 12:30!) meal came in cardboard box and took quite a long time to arrive (on a Wednesday lunch) and coffee was average and pricey. Fritters tasted good but was 2 Palm-sized fritters with a small salad, not very good value for money. Friend got a burger which looked tasty and better value for money for sure (came with chips) but I suppose serves me right for going with the healthy option. Probably won't go back when there is so much choice around.

Went to Bean Cafe for the first time with some friends. I always walk pass it when I'm walking to uni. The outside is just a small industrial-looking area with graffiti walls with a huge truck parked on the parkway. But if you dodge it and head left, you go down a a small set of stairs and it takes you into the place.

Hidden, hipster, underground. Super chill and comfy place with good vibes. The service was very friendly and the coffee was good. Reminds me of a friendlier toned-down version of Brew.

Cute decor with games to play and fantastic coffee - could be a little hotter however. Haven't tried the rest (aka food, service at night, other beverages)

Best cafe in Brisbane. Bean cafe is a fantastic place to hang out and relax in the city. The people are super friendly, the coffee is fantastic.
I'm a returning customer and I can't recommend them higher.

Bit rude. I met with 4 of my friends there once. We sat in one of the back tables and had only just started to finished our coffees (~10 minutes from receiving) and were happily playing jenga when we got asked to leave. Apparently we were taking too long. Sorry, are the games there for show?
The coffee was good, but I might only use it for takeaway.

In love. Best coffee I've ever had and I'm super picky, and even better is the staff. From the moment you walk in you're treated like an old friend and the staff are always in a good mood. I often find myself watching in amazement as I drink my coffee and the staff remember every customers order, even after only my first trip they remembered me. Awesome basement set up that really is a much needed escape from the city.

Amazing!. Every single day bean is amazing! I've been coming here on a daily basis for over a year and can't thank the staff enough for their friendly service and obviously outstanding coffees. I smile everyday when I walk in there. The staff here at bean sure know how to look after Thor customers! Thank you guys! See you tomorrow

Perfect setting. We were after a spot on a Friday night where we could hear each other talk without a million people bumping our chairs with a nice unwinding cocktail. This was it! Cozy, intimate, great atmosphere, great food and prices and amazing service. Thanks so much guys, we'll be back for sure.

Consistently great coffee and service. Absolutely love this place. I believe the coffee is by far the best in all of Brisbane CBD.

Beautiful. There needs to be more cafes like this in Brisbane. The owner is one of the friendlest people i've ever met and the coffee is divine. I'd recommend the bottled cold pressed coffee which is made fresh every morning.
The cafe itself is cosy and ever changing with local artists bringing new artwork in every few weeks to decorate the place.
This is easily my favourite cafe in Brisbane

Great Coffee - as good as the best in Melbourne. Food was ok but expensive small serve.

New favourite coffee joint. Tucked away in the sidestreets of Brisbane city is this little gem. Fantastic coffee. Decently Priced. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Love it.

Hidden Gem. Found this place literally by accident. Fantastic! is all we could say. The staff were so friendly and gave our son a free baby chino with marshmallows galore (which you don't get often in the CBD). Coffee was top notch and the slices divine. Cool atmosphere .

Best place in Brisbane. I love going to Bean. They are always so friendly and it's got great atmosphere. The coffee is great and the little sweets they have are delicious. I won't go anywhere else now, even if I'm nowhere near Bean!

Super friendly service, nice coffee, good tea plus the art and atmosphere are funky, and the food is nice but it comes from the cafe upstairs where you could get it for cheaper. Still, you pay for the vibe, right? It's definitely worth checking.

Such a funky and tranquil retreat from the city noise! Great coffee and atmosphere. Staff always super friendly

Bean - Brisbane CBD. Through a huge amount of uninspired concrete, traffic and construction work here is someplace that upon finding you would swear it was an entirely new place. Several aspects stand out here, least of which is that it sells coffee until 6pm - a lifesaver for any student heading to night classes. Down an alleyway then a flight of stairs you go (signs point the way) and you are in for a cosy place and some nice coffee.

There are a number of simple foods to go with from some breakfast options to cupcakes (one I got which was a brownie one) with seating out the back. Other nifty aspects here include that the staff have used an iPad for loyal customers and that you are sent receipts by email. You also get some very chilled and friendly service here.

The coffee is quite good - my cappuccino was creamy and smooth, enjoyable the whole way. My cupcake, while it had your basic batter, was topped with some fantastic frosting - chocolate and cream flavours. If cupcakes were an art (some specialty places would add weight to that statement) this would be more minimalist. The morsel was tasty and did me well for class that night.

In many ways people would say this is suited to West End or Fortitude Valley, but it belongs more in City Centre where everything is more lax and vanilla. With more night classes to go, I can expect to pay more visits here.

Cafe Bueno. Hands down my favourite cafe in Brisbane......nice and cosy/comfy !!! Always something new to enjoy in the Bird gallery, and friendly staff that make great coffee :) not a huge selection of food, but it's the coffee that keeps me comin back !!!!

Diana. Oh dear hate to put a dislike tick on any business but I have to in regard to the coffee only! Everything else was spot on. Nice little basement situation with super friendly staff, but in all honesty my coffee tasted sour & could not drink it.

Hungry. The atmosphere great , the welcome warm, the coffee was good but not great , and the food ( which seems to be cooked elsewhere? and brought over on a tray so it wasn't hot) - disappointing and pricier than other cbd breakfasts.

There was only the barista serving and he was too busy to bring us cutlery or water. Maybe just a bad day

I stumbled across this place by accident when looking for the other more famous lane way cbd coffee place. Bean is a cute and quite funky place with lovely coffee and very friendly service - unlike the laughable gen y version of fawlty towers service I witnessed when I last went to brew.

Could be a favourite. Such a great space, complete with the most relaxing armchairs (and a range of other, interesting seating). No actual food being offered at this stage, so with that in mind, the coffee expectations were high and they did not disappoint. To top it all off, very friendly and charming service from the two young guys "barista-ing". I'd be happy to return and luxuriate here.
KG
A fantastic laneway coffee shop - warm, cozy and funky inside! Love it!

It's always a tough decision when it comes choosing somewhere to eat - do I go to one of my favourite spots or do I risk having an average meal by trying somewhere new? #firstworldproblems As a food blogger, I try to go for the new option but I'm pretty picky when it comes to breakfast menus and plain old bacon and eggs don't often do it for me. However, I'm a sucker for cheap eats and so when I happened across Bean Cafe on George St advertising a new breakfast menu on their Facebook page with $5 breakfasts this week, I was sold.

Lately, I've been frequenting my favorite cafe (and barista) down at Bean and calorie splurging on caramel and hazelnut lattes! They're some of my favorite twists on the classic latte, and I've been taking advantage of Bean's 50%-off hour to indulge on such goodness! I have yet to try the cupcakes that they carry, as I'm usually craving something savory, and I've been told that more substantial food may be making its way into the kitchen soon...

Instead, I saw the sign for Bean, and having passed it several times, I thought, hey, why not walk through this shady looking garage and dumpster (looked like one) and see what's up? I walked up to a chalked door and a short flight of stairs down into a kitschy, cute, nicely air conditioned cafe, and was greeted by a really eccentric but friendly barista. I was just looking for a cuppa to-go, but was rather tempted...

This is a hard to find place that's certainly worth finding. You enter a cosy place that serves great coffee and a limited (but what looks appealing) range of food. Service is prompt and friendly and prices are decent
Dolce Bunnie
Quality Campos blends can be found in this quirky basement café at an affordable price, although limited food is available. Come here to forget about the hustles and bustles of the City and spot some trendy hipsters instead.
