Re-visited this cafe last Monday and was surprised to see the construction of the apartments located across the toad have been finished.
It was not a busy morning and I nearly did not need to wait and went in inside the cafe to order. While I was deciding what I should have, those cute Portuguese taste sitting on top of the counter waving their hands to me so gave it a go.
Honestly , I have not met too many cafe making the Portuguese tart for serving customer. The one that I had here was above standard with crispy pastry and soft custard filling.
Of course, if the coffee was not so good in matching the tart, a full remark review may not be granted.

The food selection here will put you "in a pickle". Ranging from a classic egg Benedict to their Candian French toast. You'll probably need a nap and another coffee but heck it's worth it.
a local gem situated on martha street, the food is delicious and generously portioned, the service is friendly and efficient, favourite dishes include the canadian french toast and the chilli field mushrooms. it is quite busy on saturdays so be prepared for a short wait but the food is well worth it!
Have eaten at all the establishments in Martha St except here, that’s now changed. Huge meals, tasty and well priced menu. Very busy as it was a Saturday but well worth the 5 minute wait for my table. Eggs bene was made buy a skilled hand with a sauce worthy of a 5 star restaurant. Coffee 10/10, barista was flat out and didn’t blink, fast, perfect temperature and taste to die for, I never order more then 1 coffee but today ordered 3 so says it all, service friendly and fast. Can’t wait to go back, still drooling.
Loved this cafe, great choice of options, lovely salads and sweet treats and all homemade. Coffee was good, asked for it to be extra hot and it was spot on.
Friendly staff and delicious food.
beautiful cafe, had a great vibe. food was tasty and homemade which I always look for. staff were very friendly. would definitely go back. good coffee too
Vege stack: They have the BIGGEST field mushroom I have ever seen!
The chilli jam matches nicely with my dish.
My partner ordered a dish with carrot jam, but that didn't go very well.
Fantastic light breakfast this morning at In a Pickle. The bolognese arancini ball was the bomb. Nice coffee and lovely gentleman behind the counter.
The menu has a large selection of food for everyone at reasonable prices. We had the big breakfast, what a delight! All your favourite breakfast food on one plate. The potato cake was to die for and the carrot jam was a nice surprise. Will eat here again.
In A Pickle has been the cafe on the corner in Camp Hill for years, occupying a very visible location at one end of the Martha Street shopping strip. Locals fill the tables outside on a weekend, with a solid proportion of children to pooches. Lured by the promise of good food (given that they cater and run cooking classes, one would hope they were good), we headed there for brunch.
Huge serving sizes, lots of choice on the menu. Got the French toast which was yum and the bacon and eggs. Staff were friendly, would go back!
Great little cafe nestled in Camp Hill! I hadn't been here in ages but went the other day for lunch and ordered the NYC burger (a special for the day) and a chocolate milk shake. What a perfect combo! The burger was flavoursome and well balanced in terms of the pickle contrasting the sweet ketchup and the subtle flavours of the meat, resulting in an all round flavour sensation. The fat cut beer battered chips were well seasoned and their aioli and tomato chutney were so delicious I finished them off before I had finished my chips! Highly recommended.
The Canadian French toast here is to die for. Beautifully presented and just as delicious. The sandwiches here change regularly so it's always a nice surprise to find something exciting and tasty. Service is prompt and friendly. The coffee has also been excellent. So lucky to have this at our doorstep
Had a Breakfast Sandwhich and coffee here during the week and got a lovely table spot outside. The only issues of the Breakfast Sandwhich was the bacon was very overcooked and the sourdough toast was too hard, which made it hard to eat. The Coffee was good and would deffently go back for coffee in future.
Make sure you book for weekend breakfast because you don't want to miss out on a scrumptious meal. The brekky dishes are very tasty and the coffee is perfect. I highly recommend the Byron Bay muesli and the gourmet lunch options are amazing.Yum, yum, yum.
We came here as the breakky place we planned to go was closed. There are a few cafes around and we randomly chose this place. Great little place. Friendly staff. We ordered breakky burger and veggie burger. The portion was big for us. Both burgers were loaded with generous halloumi cheese. The mushroom in the veggie burger was juicy but the bacon in the breakky burger was a little too salty. Coffee was good too. Overall, it is a place I would come again.
Went and checked out In a Pickle for breakfast the other morning.. Great little spot in Camp Hill. Was really tasty and the coffee was done well! Would definitely head back for a second meal
This place is a delight. If my wife and I get the chance for a sneaky breakfast without the kids this is one of the first on our list. We have also gone as a family on many occasions. Tim the chef is thorough and consistent with his food prep and delivery, plus a friendly person with customers to boot. In fact, the only time the food wasn't as expected was when Tim wasn't there (which is rare). They are dog friendly which means our entire little clan can go too :)
We have eaten many things from the menu and they are all delicious. Very fresh produce and prepared with love. My personal favourite is the Canadian French Toast which is a decadent without being sickly sweet or too heavy - in fact I have had this many times and still absolutely love it (guilty pleasure). Their cabinet is always filled with wonderful tasty treats and healthy satisfying snack options.
The coffee is good and the tea is delicious.
The staff are a real highlight for us - they recognise returning customers, are fantastic with the kids when they come with us, and accommodate anything we need with zero fuss. It feels like a family there and this rubs off on the customer experience too. A gem of a place in a lovely peaceful location. Recommend.
Delicious food, with a great arrangement of options on the breakfast menu including daily specials. Friendly attentive staff, even when they were busy. Upside - can spilt bill!
Really nice and fresh desserts. Cabinet is so well presented I just wanted to sample everything. Service is good. Would recommend this cafe for its coffee and cakes
Loved it!. We've just moved to the area & decided to check some of the cafe's around us. We loved IAP. Their food, service & pricing was great. We will definitely be coming here regularly.
Hands down one of the best cafes in Brisbane. The definition of hidden gem is truly met with In a Pickle in Camp Hill. Having eaten here over a dozen times, and happily paying a modest $40-50 for each meal, i'm yet to be disappointed. I don't quite understand the comments of rude staffing in previous reviews, as i've always found them to be outgoing and polite, as well as very willing to change any facet of the menu to fit an individuals taste. The food is presented as nicely, if not better than the pictures seen, it's consistently nice and quite quickly prepared considering the quality of the meal. A personal favourite of mine is the Island French Toast, although even better than that was a Butterscotch Sauce French Toast they had on their special board one Saturday morning. Highly recommend this cafe, easily worth the 30min trip each way for me to go back, there's a reason almost every table is almost full, definitely one to try for yourself!
Only major con would be the lack of nicer seating, as there are limited tables, mostly on uneven ground. Animals also have no place in a cafe, and if i were the owner, i'd discourage patrons to be bringing dogs to their tables with them in the future.
A nice little cafe to escape for a coffee. I really like this cafe. Been twice for lunch and morning tea. Really nice coffee and street setting, fairly easy to park. Will happily go again
What an awesome find. My friend had chilli scrambled eggs and shared her potato cake YUM! The coffee was
Awesome. Even though I am a north of the river dweller this place is worth the travel we will be back again and again.
In a Pickle - Camp Hill, Brisbane. Not just a hidden gem, but one in an array of hidden gems in a hidden suburban enclave, In a Pickle is an under-rated and overlooked option in Brisbane's breakfast scene. The place used to be a butchers; the look and feel of the place, if I were asked, would be with many similarities to the large bakehouses that can be found in country Victoria (partially doubling as a grocery store). The main difference is the amount of space; the warm, friendly service is well and truly in tact. Each member of the staff is doing what they can, even small tasks with pleasurable expressions on their face.
When my dining buddy and I went here, the tables were close to full with a few spaces open for seating. It was almost going to be the window benches, yet a recently left table was free with a bit of cleaning to do. This all good by us, so off to al fresco seating it was. Coffee orders were taken, and it was time for a double shot cappuccino for me.
They do a good coffee here, using Segafreddo for their blend. It was good, but not one of the ones that you have to cross suburbs just to try; though this is amongst the options for breakfast to do the same - so as the obligatory coffee with breakfast it is decent. The needed strength is present when you ask for the double shot.
They do not skimp on serving sizes either, which is a big plus for a weekend brunch. They also do not skimp on wonderful items for breakfast that sound fantastic; it is a guarantee that you will have a hard time deciding which item to have, and maybe even what extras to have on the side if you so please. Eventually, I settled onto their breakfast potatoes. These came with a side of pesto-based mushrooms, scrambled eggs and plenty of Turkish bread. On the side, I got a usual extra of haloumi.
This was a substantial meal, every aspect of it freshly-made and well done. It had tiny, whole mushrooms which were starting to release the flavour and the texture was still there. The potatoes were in big chucks and pan fried, and at least three eggs must have been used in the scramble. Then there was a generous lot of warm, freshly toasted Turkish bread. All of this made for a big pile, on top of an already pretty big plate. Those with small stomachs might not bode well; I managed to eat the brunt of it. As usual, the haloumi was a brilliant addition. The slices were big, and they cooked it just right being juicy and with bite. For a side, this is great value.
As well as the wholesome menu offering that they have, there is a daily special. My dining buddy went with this one, and that day it was an egg's Benedict. This was nothing short of fantastic as well; the ingredients blended beautifully - as egg's Benedict often does (there are times you cannot diss a classic) - and each component was great quality: well poached eggs with a runny yolk, crispy bacon and a great helping of hollandaise on top.
It is now apparent that the authentic, friendly service is present when you know it is there. So many small touches make the place, from the service to the unique outlay of the cafe. Kids are covered, dogs are encouraged to come (outside, with water provided), catering is widely done and pleasant service is abound. This is perhaps the mainstay of breakfast, and maybe in general, for this area.
In a Pickle is yet another example of well-warranted popularity. This is not the trendy sort of cafe, yet one where you will get a good eat that is given in a more than generous quantity. You get authentic service, that has many echoes of a family place plus a great quiet ambience.nearby a park. Getting there, as in a managing a park afar is without hassle and it never pretends to be more than it is. It is another worthy entry into how well Brisbane provides breakfast options.
Great place. Popped in to get a quick take away lunch and was pleasently surprised by a super lovely girl who greeted/served me. Got a yummy veggie lasagne and a muffin, huge servings and delish! Will definitely be coming back more often
Best haloumi. The haloumi is delicous, the staff are nice and the outdoor seating is breezy. Overall it's a great cafe in a good location.
Dilly Salmon. Went to IAP last weekend and thought it was a very cute suburbian place.
I had the dilly salmon which must be one of the best breakfasts i've ever had. The rocket was fresh and crunchy, the dill just right and there was plenty of salmon and avocado. Nothing worse when you pay top $$ and you get one tiny piece of smoked salmon - but it's quite the opposite here! The dilly salmon was only $15 and worth every cent.
My partner had the special which was eggs benedict. It was also plentiful, only downside was that all the spinach made his bread soggy.
Coffee was strong without being bitter.
Will definitely come back! Also easy to park on all side streets.
Great honest food. To be honest, In a Pickle, is exactly what I would call the perfect little local cafe. Great coffee, well constructed honest food that oozes love, care and flavour and genuinely friendly staff that don't fluff around making a fake effort.
I often opt for the pie of the day (always awesome and homemade) and a side of Caesar... finish this off with a double shot flatty and I'm smiling from ear to ear. Truthfully you might pay a couple of bucks more to eat here (and i mean like $2) but its worth every cent. So often have we tried a 'new' cafe and been let down by jokers that have obviously just decided it would be cool after their mid life crisis to open a cafe....
Trust me stick with professionals that know their stuff...
One of the few awesome places for breakfast in Brisbane. Closest place for a decent Canadian style brekky. A must try
Fan. Really enjoy all of the fresh salads and like that it's open later than most cafes around. The blueberry crumble cake has been a winner here for years.
Great spot for Saturday breakfast, wish they were opened Sundays!
Every table was full but service was still great and the food came out relatively quickly.
Can't wait to come back to work my way thru the menu
Yummy salads and super kids friendly here !
Very busy, with limited seating... Food was good value for money, service great
Diana. This is seriously good food, just love it. Had b/f & was told the food was all home made on the premises. I ordered the chilli eggs which came with tomatoes & avocado plus a home made chilli jam, could not fault any of it. The chilli was fresh & in copious quantity (which I just adore ) all through the delicious scrambled eggs which had the scrummy little burnt edges, just like homemade (which I assume they were as she said!!) The partner had the potatoe cakes, two huge fluffy mounds of delight on a plate with a light dill flavoured cream oozing on the top. These also came with tomatoe, a meal fit for Henry VIII himself! If I could fault anything & this is only minor, was the coffee, not bad, but could have a little more strength for my taste.
Nice selection, gluten free options. Friendly staff. Good portions, fairly priced. Would go back.

Fantastic breakfast, absolutely top service, very friendly. Had the eggs bacon and turkish bread was really big meal and tasty.i'll be back.
Fresh food choice. This is the place where I am always trying to get my breakfast when visiting Brisbane. Excellent fresh food and good service.
Great food, bad coffee. Food is sensational, always a delight. Very generous servings and you MUST try the chips. Coffee is a real let down though. Service has improved since new coffee bar opened across the road. Can't fault service now. Seems to be popular opinion among our local friends though that if you're eating go to IAP and if you just want coffee go to one of the others close-by.
Fabulous understanding of flavours. IPA has been a favourite of ours for as long as it has been running. Firstly some are reviewing on the sweets which are mostly bought in. Secondly this is a true Brisbane gem it should not be termed a Melbourne cafe in Brisbane, please credit where credit is due, this city is capable of delivering fine food and should not be subjected to tiresome references of Sydney and Melbourne whenever it is done well. IPA provides consistently wonderful food, great service and is well price for such high quality. I love it, only problem is it's so good if you get there past 12:30 -13:00 often some of my favourites, that I've been salavating over, are already gone.
Local and awesome. In a Pickle is one of those places that has never disappointed. Their breakfasts are excellent and their sandwiches and salads are also of an excellent quality. In addition, this place has a lovely local feel and the staf are quite friendly and remember you if you come regularly (a nice touch). The tables and chairs outside are just plastic so don't expect beautful decor but the food and service more than make up for this...
Delicious!. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, sweets, salads coffee - it's all good!
Al Fresco dining in a child-friendly environment. Tables are small so it's better suited to a smaller group.
It's easier to get a table later on a Saturday but be sure to order by 11am. I just wish it was open Sunday!!!
Try their awesome salads but the best still has to be the raspberry slice/cheesecake or the choc pear pudding - heaven!!
Fabulous desserts served them at a dinner party and they got me out of a cheesecake disaster pickle
The sweet potato and haloumi rosti made up as the base of this towering stack of grilled eggplants, balsamic onions, bocconcini and finally the green tahini.
Miss food hunter has been talking about In a Pickle (IAP) for more than a year now and we finally made it there for lunch! The cafe isn't big, with just a couple of tables outdoors and several indoor window seatings. The cabinets and benchtops brimmed with goodies galore! There were turkish sandwiches, gourmet salads, homestyle bakes & sweets as well as a few bottled condiments available for purchase. Their fridge products ranged from IAP's take-home sauces & stews, gourmet yoghurt, Delizia gelato to Maggie Beer's 1x-serve ice-creams. Maggie Beer's tempting ice-cream flavours include; quince & bitter almond, vanilla bean & elderflower, brunt fig, caramel & honeycomb flavoured ice-creams and dark chocolate & orange. There is also a small whiteboard lunch menu of a Southern Fried Chicken BAP with Coleslaw or Lamb Triangles served with Tzatziki, but we went straight for the cabinet offerings. Mr food hunter had the Vegetable Frittata on a Polenta base ($10) with a side of Sweet potato & H
Ls dish of poached eggs, mushrooms, spinach with a chilli-mint dressing on top walnut sourdough was a great meal. The walnut sourdough was absolutely delicious and the chilli-mint dressing packed a punch. Poached eggs were done perfectly.
I liked In a Pickle for its concept and friendly service. I think my underwhelming experience came from being there at the wrong time of the year and ordering the wrong thing. Seeing Bee's plate gives me confidence that it's a decent place for food.
Loved the waffles! My wife had the vegetarian breakfast burger and said it was great also.
In A Pickle we’re absolutely fantastic!!!
Esther and the team were incredible.
Communication was easy, planing went smoothly, and most importantly the food… WOW! All of our guests raved about how delicious the food was.
Highly recommended.
Thanks Tim & Em
Got a table outside without too much trouble due to the wet weather. Enjoyed breakfast burger and coffee. Seating is limited but few other cafes available if you can't get a table. Would not be my choice if in a large group due to limited seating. Food and coffee is good.
The vegan bowl was AMAZING. Enough said. It’s been a few weeks since I had the pleasure of having brunch here and going through my photos I was reminded of the deliciousness I experienced. I had to share.
I totally understand why In A Pickle is reviewed so highly. For the price, you get a good feed and each mouthful is full of flavor.
The fresh juices were the perfect accompaniment. Thank you to the staff and chefs! If you haven’t tried it - highly recommend.
Has to be a top 10 in Brisbane.
The coffee and food are unreal, as well as what seems to be an unlimited supply of cold water and glasses from a fridge inside.
The menu is large enough to suit every day and every mood, but the kicker is inside
A huge cabinet full of mountainous cakes, beautifully made, which can be had as a meal there or a takeaway party-stopper.
Brilliant food, absolutely nothing wrong every time.

Eggs your way and potato cake was delicious with the dill sauce. I think the cake needs a bit more seasoning or a cheese filling. Not a huge fan of the relish. My partner enjoyed his bacon and eggs. Quick service.

Came here for breakfast the other day with a friend. My friend had an eggs benny. The eggs were overcooked and not runny unfortunately but she still enjoyed the meal, the amount of ham was generous. I had an egg wrap. Just being picky, but i didn't like the amount of mayo in the wrap and the taste of the tomato relish but i just scooped it out and it tasted great.
Incredible fries and burgers. Premium price for a burger but worth it, this place a full flavour no comprise on taste. Amazing staff; very attentive and friendly. Easy location with plenty of street parking but can be really busy during peak times. Nice decor and vibe great for a catch up. Very chilled out place.
The old butcher's shop in Camp Hill is a pleasant little place to hang out if you have a bit of spare time. The laid back location is on the corner of Martha and Newman Streets, Camp Hill. The cafe is well supported by locals, and it subsequently has a great community vibe, which is always a good sign. The coffee is good, the homemade goodies are delicious, but my favourite, besides the clever name, is the old fashioned milkshakes and the lemon tart. Your pet pooches are welcomed, if on a leash. It's a very busy, popular spot, especially with local Mums, so service can be slow. Limited space inside the cafe does hinder quick customer service. Most seating is outside, which is lovely al fresco dining on a summer's day, not so lovely on a cold rainy day - which is not for long in sunny Brisbane. They do have window seating inside, but once again, the small area can feel a bit crowded. Catering and takeaways are definitely their speciality -- children's parties, dinner parties, delicious take home meals, gourmet pies and other tasty treats are available for smart busy people. I do love the adorable little decor features, the fresh flowers, interesting homemade cards which certainly adds atmosphere to their little cafe. So take the time and look around. The cheese grater light fixtures in the window, and the delicious little treats on their counter are lovely. Portion sizes tend to be larger than the norm, so do ask for smaller servings if you are a light eater, or cut costs and share with a friend. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. I've heard In A Pickle offer children's cooking classes - so check out their website for more details.
