This darling little place is a real find, wonderful food lovely staff.
well worth a visit BYO which makes it even better !
seriously fabulous
Amphora is a great restaurant you must try!!I've been there twice and definitely would go there to try more dishes! The staff are friendly and the food is soooo amazing!! I love chef 's special!!
Delicious food, so yummy. I always want to go here for my birthday and it never disappoints! The calamari is amazing. Looking forward to going back soon. A great find in Brisbane! Cheers!
This place and its food are amazing!
Every time I come here, the staff are inviting and friendly and the food is amazing. Strongly recommend the mezze platter for sharing. They also do this takeaway which helps simplify dinner parties.
One of the best places to go out for a nice, and delicious dinner in Brisbane! This is the place to go, great food & staff, a cozy atmosphere that brings you the fresh and vibrant foods of European cuisine! Simply brilliant
Enjoyable Saturday Night. I went to Amphora with a bunch of friends on Saturday night we ordered 3 mezze platters to share. Great idea, they were generous and delicious. The fried calamari was a treat on the platter and was highly contested by all in the party. The main was pork for me pan fried and delicious. I must say when you go to a restaurant and order a side you get this small tiny bowl for between $8 to $12, not here, man the sides are huge and delicious. One of the guys had the duck it looked great and if I go back it will be on my hit list for next visit. Service was good and timing was fine. A great small restaurant with knowledgeable staff and nice atmosphere.
Just superb. The most delicious food and wonderful service! Have been back many, many times. Our family's favourite celebration location.
Superb. My Wife and I had dinner tonight -it was superb!
Food fantastic, great service a10/10 restaurant.
Happy diner. This is the best restaurant in Brisbane. The chef is unsurpassed and the food is just delicious - well cooked, well presented and friendly and helpful staff. Can't go past it. Highly recommended.
Always delicious, never disappoints. My family have been going to Amphora for years for our family dinners and we have never had a bad dinner. Always good service, always delicious food and of course, it's wonderful to be able to enjoy a quality restaurant that is BYO.
I could happily go to Amphora any day of the week.
Favourite. Love it! Always good service, and great food. Even the mez platter for take away is a hit with our family.
St Lucia's hidden gem. I first dined at Amphora over a decade ago and recently returned for a Friday night dinner. It was sensational.
Their Mezze platter is a must, as is their Ravioli.
I love Amphora and can't wait to return.
I also highly recommend booking beforehand.
You can't get a table without booking a few days ahead. In these economic times what does that tell you? Always duck for me and snapper for my fish lover dining partner. Haven't yet been disappointed.
Perfection. The food is incredible! Seriously delicious, high quality food and top service. Kind of formal but at the same time really relaxed...Fantastic!
Delicious food. Great service. From my husband: "The best duck I've had in a long time". Do yourself a favour.
Excellent surburban BYO. Amphora is lovely, and a favourite in St Lucia. I've been a number of times now, and have been impressed by the consistently high quality food and service. Reasonably priced, but can get very busy.
The only criticisms of the restaurant relate to the building itself - it's timber floored, and very echo-y. Aside from those minor quibbles, this is one of the best BYOs I've found in Brisbane - and it's literally 30m from a bottle shop. Possibly not worth making a trip into St Lucia for if you live across the river or on the north side, but if you live locally or semi-locally, it's well worth making this a regular fixture.
We really love this place! Great service and delicious food all round. The duckling, pork and chocolate tart are all our favorites :)
Amphora - St. Lucia, Brisbane. Sticking out geographically, like a sore thumb - with little other eating options in short walking distance and isolated between the collections as such - Amphora is at an advantage. Quietly nestled in the suburbia of St. Lucia it would seem not to be the best place of business - personally from living there nearly 10 years I can vouch a specific point in the adjacent shopping junction never really found a shop that stayed too long. That is utilised to its advantage actually, since this place has been here for a lot longer than that. By blending in and having a homely feel that is suited to subrbia, Amphora has been consistently popular with the locals ever since with little changing over time. It may be one of the best restaurants I have been to over the years; I had not been for some time so for old time's sake it was due to be return to. Going there I went with a group of six and safe to say time has been kind on Amphora.
To describe their decor is simple, but there is a feel to it that may be a little harder to describe. This restaurant is very small; there are two rooms for dining, a kitchen plus washrooms all in a floor area roughly the size of a small apartment. It keeps it simple inside; the atmosphere is relaxing even when fully pakced, it seems social and welcoming.
The staff were very friendly and efficient with the number of clientele to contend with. The place was almost full to its brim; which is not uncommon - size is only one factor. Service was well-timed with the meals and ordering, everyone did theire job perfectly.
The meal here consisted of starters (a large meze plate, a small tub of whtiebait and a loaf of bread), main meal (I ordered the duckling, but tried most of the others) and deserts (a lemon tart and charlotte) with a coffee on the side.
The metze plate was delicious with a wide selection of appetisers including halomi, calamari, pita bread, olives, chorizo, dolmades and various vegetables. I cannot recall everything I had individually, but from memory they were all delicious and it makes the plate a must eat especially in a group. What they put on the plate is seasonal; this time they did not have the whitebait so that had to be ordered seperately. These can be a bit divisive, but I like them - they have a sharp zest to them.
The Amphora loaf is alo brilliant - and great value as well. A freshly baked, crusty loaf comes out with butter, olive oil, sea salt and balsamic vinegar. Each component coming with the bread is great on its own and also combined. This is one example where simplicity wins out for appeal.
One of the best assets of Amphora is its tiny yet ecclectic menu. On top of that, there is a specials board to go along with it thus further complicating the choice of the indecisive diners. This one reason why going with a group can be of an asset. Of the dishes ordered, each item was good to superb in its own way (excluding the seafood pie, as I did not get to try that).
First ones, the duck which was my favourite. It was cooked to perfection, with the skin crispy and the meat falling straigiht off the bone. The berry sauce that it came is glazed it well and made a contrasting sweet taste to duck's more defined flavour.
The eye fillet was tender, juicy and had a lovely kick from the peppercorn sauce. It is defintely amongst the better steaks available - even comparing it to steakhouses.
Though it was not awful, the pork was not quite as up to scratch as the other dishes. It seemed more suited to a different kind of cuisine. In saying it however, the dynamics of the food worked well with the side of pear that it came with along with the red cabbage.
Certainly one of the more innovative dishes on the menu the zucchini flowers are also one of the more subtly flavoured of the options. Stuffed with chicken mousse it is definitely interesting. I will admit I still liked it, but would still order other items on the menu. It is more of an entree though, so it is probably more suited to a shared dish.
Mousaka was the surpise though, a different approach of the kind of meal served in this restaurant. The tomato, cheese and meat all blended together well
All up, each item was - as said - fantastic and it is all well-priced as well.
As for the deserts, the charlotte was interesting to say a word. Probably a bit out-of-place.
However, the lemon tart was tasty and had the zesty flavour without being too overpowering.
Their espressos were presented with finesee and had the right dark flavour to go after dinner. Complimenting the meal as a finisher were Turkish delights - which were what they were.
Despite the large selection of food ordered, there was no margin of error at all here. It is more than rose-coloured glasses seeing this place's appeal. There is an appealing authenticity in the service, the food, in everything basically. The family orientation can be stemed from the family ownership which works well without seeming pandering. Even if I am not in the area anymore, I wish to return in the future and will not pass up the opportunity if it ever comes by.
Beautiful food. This restaurant was recommended to me by a few people so I tried it out to see what all the fuss was about. The zuchinni flowers were delicious but my partners entree of duck pie was to die for. Beautiful tender meat and crunchy pastry. Our mains were also excellent my steak was tender and cooked to perfection. The fact that this restaurant survives on word of mouth alone proves how good it is. I highly recommend!
I've been here a few times for dinner and always enjoyed it. It's always busy and the food is excellent. I do find it a bit noisy though.
Nice find!. Quaint and quiet, great service, simple, rustic dining. Don't miss out on a local favorite.
Locals are all over this gorgeous little foodie heaven. With seating for not more than 40, you will have to book at least a week in advance to secure a table. The tapas sharing plate to start was incredibly generous and the calamari was cooked to perfection and accompanied with a delicious homemade sweet tasting tomatoe based sauce. Secured one of the last 2 ducks on the menu and was not disappointed. Served with a sweet potato rosti and fresh al dente sugar snaps there was barely room for dessert. Had to try the homemade sorbet trio (lemon, mango and raspberry)...was hard to pick a favourite. The chocolate tart with fresh cream was also devoured without even an offer from its owner for a taste! Will be hard to beat Amphora for value for money. It's hard to find quality BYO these days. The only negatives are the acoustics inside make it hard to hear and the service.... slow slow slow. Wait staff appear to be university students who had to be asked for an ice bucket to house our white wine, and seemed completely oblivious to offer us more of the beers we had brought. Four reminders were required for our drinks- this had no impact on the food however. Overall, value for money, tastiness and originality of food plus atmosphere 7/10.
Enchanting! I was recomended this restraunt for my birthday and I loved everything about it. The food was wonderful! Will definately go again.
Delicious!. BEST calamari ever. Crisp but tender, salty with a fabulous home-made fresh tomato sauce. Wonderful.
The Mezze platter is a great plate to share, generous servings and tasty morsels and dips to suit everyone. The duck is also worth a try, although family members rave about the stuffed zucchini flowers.
Don't pay any attention to the negative comments, go and try it for yourself, but book early, it can be hard to get a table if you don't!
Awesome food. Have eaten at Amphora many many times (no I'm not 110yrs old like another reviewer thinks all patrons are - no where near that!).
The food is simple but extremely tasty with amazing flavours.
The service has always been impeccable - on every single visit (and there's been at least 20+ visits).
Warm comfort food on a cold winter's night. This is a nice cosy restaurant, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. It serves wonderfully flavoured meals that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. It definitely made our bellies happy! We shall be back.
Local eatery. We have been many times to this restaurant and we are never disappointed. The freshest ingredients, the piping hot food and quality of cooking are always maintained. My favourites are Zucchini Flowers and Seafood Pie.
Peter & staff are always attentive.
L&A Hill
The best calamari I have ever eaten! I love the entree meze platters. We booked out the whole restaurant for my gran's birthday dinner, and the food and service was excellent.
A small place with a nice vibe. The zucchini flowers were a hit with the ladies in our group. nice mediteranian flavours. The addition of pickled chilli to the Greek salad was interesting but the salad was drowned in dressing. main meals reasonably sized - byo with reasonable corkage. The local bottle shop shut at 7pm which was a bit dissapointing. A good haunt for locals I think
Spectacular calamari, all meals were very nice. Definitely going back.
Update: came back. Calimari was spectacular again. Duckling and chicken roulade was superb.
Have been going to Amphora for many years - never had anything but a superb meal. Fantastic service - delicious food & caters for gluten free coeliac like myself. Easy parking. Highly recommended
Mez platter - what a great option for a take-away to eat on the back deck with a bottle of wine.
Absolutely beautiful food. The calamari is wonderful.
They offer high quality food at a high quality price XD. I will say it worth the price.
