Review The Colour Nine - Brisbane

Jordan Tselepy
Seriously delicious (and very innovative!) “modern fusion” dishes, and lovely service! It’s a pleasant environment with a great outdoor-ish seating area (dog friendly) - the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars (which the food/drinks and service deserve) was that on a hot day, it was very stuffy and we were overwhelmed by flies. Still, highly recommend (especially their Turkish delight beverages)!

We do love our coffee. So its always nice to drop in to The Colour Nine. Have you tried the tasting board? It is definitely a great way to try a coffee blend in multiple ways. Thanks Peeps!! On point as usual!

The colour nine was a cute cafe with a relaxed garden vibe. The food was good and the service quick. Iced drinks probably a little expensive for their size but otherwise a pleasant experience ☺️

Wow nicest breakfast in a long time. The pumpkin hummus was very tasty, served with smashed avo. Great coffee and first class service.

Beautiful little restaurant set in the middle off the main stream and a pleasant dining experience in the burbs. Beautiful meal and pleasant dining experience. Suits disability with the outdoor eating experience. Off the street parking.

The coffee is always incredible, but the staff are everything here! Top service levels are worth coming here for alone 👌

First time here, definitely won't be our last. Breakfast was divine. The sourdough bread that came with the breakfast bruschetta and the avocado smash was unbelievably good. Loved how thick and soft it was.

I tell you what. It's not very often you find a cafe that treats you like family. Every worker makes you feel like your at home with exceptional service and kindness. The food is top quality everytime thanks to Liam and the Coffees are always mint thanks to Anika and Josh. I don't go anywhere else!

My husband and I came here for an early lunch, I got the karaage chicken burger which said it had kewpie mayo, the guy asked me what sauce I wanted and I said plain mayo, he said there’s either teriyaki or mustard mayo, I asked if it was spicy (I don’t do spicy) he said no, it came drenched in English mustard mayo which reminds me of wasabi, the chips also came with chilli powder all through them, my husbands breakfast burger came with 2 large ham steaks instead of bacon and was also drenched in chili relish instead of tomato relish, We ate half each of the burgers. We came here when it first opened and it was good, don’t know what happened since then. The place is full of flies and despite the visible air con it was HOT. The coke was nice and refreshing though.
Taking Brisbane One Coffee House At A Time
Was here a few weeks ago on a busy Saturday. I understand it’s hard when your staff are under the pump, but a smile and greeting, or any form of acknowledgement, was all that was required. We just wanted a sit down breakfast, but after standing forever to flag down someone to enquire when a table might be free, decided a take away coffee would be it. All of this would’ve been excusable, except while waiting for my take away, new walk-ins were arriving and being seated/ albeit at dirty tables or being told when new tables would be available. I tired one more time to get a waiter’s attention to source a table for two, but was ignored once again. Moral of the story, don’t go here if you even look slightly alternative, you might upset their elitist aesthetic. Positive - great coffee!

Extremely busy Saturday morning about 1030am. Blunt and quite rude person took my order. When food was being delivered they took it to the wrong table and then 'asked' us if we had ordered what they were holding. There was a clear table number we had been assigned in the middle of the table. When we said yes that we had ordered that meal they just slid it into the middle of the table and walked off (this happened 3 times). They continued to lean over the same person that was closest to the door to deliver the 2nd/3rd meal and then the same for the next 2 coffees. It was like they were confused about who had ordered which meal and coffee then just put it in the middle of the table for us to sort out. The staff never smiled, never said anything really, apart from did you order this? Horrible experience and a waste of money. Won't be spending my money there again.

I had the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on rye bread. The yolk was nice and runny and there was a good amount of salmon. Not the best hollandaise I’ve had. I loved that you didn’t have to pay extra for the salmon and rye. The smoothie was light and airy and had a natural banana taste. There was a few chunks that clogged the straw but that’s about the only bad thing I can say about the smoothie. Overall a cozy cafe in a quiet neighbourhood with friendly staff. Would like to try the karaage chicken burger.

Hubby and I headed here for lunch this week, after reading some positive reviews. Plus, it is nearby - always a winner for a quick weekday lunch. The cafe presents pleasantly, being in a quiet suburban area. Sadly, unlike others who raved about the friendly atmosphere and staff, we felt there was a dark cloud hanging over it. No-one greeted us or gave any assistance; our table was left with other peoples unfinished meals and dirty crockery. In fact two staff passed by at different times, hands empty and totally ignoring the mess. We had to go in and ask for it to be cleaned. Even though it was lunchtime, it was not particularly busy so we could not figure out why the service was so slack and unfriendly.

We grabbed a menu, and did the usual thing; i.e. go and order at the counter. Our drinks came out: strawberry thickshake for him ($7.50), and banana espresso smoothie for me ($7). Mine was nicely cold and strong in flavour. Hubby thought his drink was okay but it needed a bit more blending he said. Kudos to them for my metal straw, and for hubby s paper one. Better than plastic any day!

He had the Thai red beef curry ($19.50), which was disappointing. The beef was not tender, and there was not much sauce with it. It looked more like a regular beef stew with the carrots and beans, and not particularly Thai. My mushroom bowl was okay, but I would not rush back for it. My plate had a weird oily orange sauce painted around it; and the potato cake tasted a bit odd. My poor little poached egg was a curled up little ball of misery. Sorry guys, my meal was not a winner. The fries were fries, so went down just fine.

We ate and ran, not wanting to spend any more of our precious time or money here. I understand that everyone has bad days, so perhaps we just caught them at a bad time. But I am not willing to chance it another time!

A nice cafe in a suburban environment very dog and child friendly and good vegetarian and vegan options. We had usual coffees. Smashed avo probably needed a bit more herbs and spices. Some bike parking at front.

I love this place! Great coffee, yummy food and lovely staff who are always happy! Wonderfully accommodating with making things suitable for various dietary requirements - really helpful

I visited The Colour Nine today and would ideally rate it a 3.5. The café has a very peaceful atmosphere and good selection of food. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken Burger which was quite tasty, however, the sweet potato crisps that were promised on the menu were replaced with regular fries. This was disappointing as I was not notified by staff that the crisps were unavailable. The wait staff were also quite blunt.

Daniel Strange is head chef and This place is absolutely fabulous!! Were so lucky to find it. We had smashed avo on rye with poached egg and delicious tomatoes and a yummy chai. Partner had the TC9 breakfast burger which was chock full of bacon lettuce relish egg tomato and a feast! Ryan the owner gave us turmeric latte and a frappe to try- stunningly good! Great staff yummy food smart surroundings- talked to the chef he changes menu every few months so always seasonal and fresh. Chef had just made divine tarts - they looked so good we had to take away to try later😃

A hidden gem!!
Just on a side street in Kedron/Stafford, a very unsuspecting building houses this great little cafe. Serving great coffee and very very tasty breakfasts and lunch. The breakfast burger is my pick for breakie and the chicken tacos a go to for lunch. I can highly recommend the colour nine for locals and anyone willing to travel a little further.

A true hidden gem! The Colour Nine is a wonderful cafe tucked away in the suburbs. The menu is small but this is a plus as it is all well thought out and consistently high quality food. The buttermilk chicken burger is out of this world - I have often read about buttermilk fried chicken in American novels but never knew how truly delicious it could be until I tried this burger! The mouthwatering chicken comes with fresh coleslaw and gently pickled cucumber as well as a tangy sauce. My only (minor) complaint is that I don't like the thick slab bacon but I'm sure others do so no points deducted for that. Coffee, muffins and other sweet treats are also great.

Great friendly and fast service, had an iced coffee and the french toast. Both delicious. The french toast is decadent but a real treat. The flavours are awesome together! Would love to come back and try more of the menu.

Chicken tacos and burger were on point, not sure how I felt about the iced coffee being serves with the coffee as ice cubes and having to wait for them to melt? I mean that's a good idea but maybe still make an iced coffee first then add them

Had a great breakfast here. Made very welcome by the charming host who also looked after the many pooches out front of house including ours! Coffee here is a great brew , rich & smooth with a creamy texture. My order of dahl with fresh red chillies on noodles with a fried egg was excellent. Sri Lankan style curry chock full of fresh tomato chunks with a light fresh texture & those chillies packed a decent punch too😊

This is a neighbourhood hidden gem! Stumbled upon this place with a friend and had a fantastic breakfast experience. We ordered the breakfast burger, Buddha bowl and french toast. Every dish was fantastic! The burger came with real thick lashes of bacon, must try. The Buddha bowl was light but with lots of flavour. The french toast was to die for. Filled with Nutella and it came with this maple ice cream. You might think sugar overload when you read the components of the dish but you’re wrong, every single thing is there for a reason. Everything completely worked together. Will be returning this weekend with family !

Explored this café which located at Stafford Height in the morning. A nice lay out with reasonable dining area inside and outside the café. Ordered the flat white and Jaffle for my brekkie. Coffee came to the table very quick. I appreciated the friendly service from the barista and the coffee was made of the Beancraft brew coffee (I guess!). My flat white was full of earthy taste and creamy feeling. Actually, it is very clever to have the specific artisan coffee for surviving among other competitors within the same area. Then, the jaffle came next and I loved it at my first bite. The Moroccan chorizo delivered an unexpected hotness to my brekkie which just matched my palate this morning because I really something to kick-start my busy day. Overall it was a decent experience.

Great friendly service, with delicious food to match. Just devoured the weekend special "philly steak dog" so tasty and not too heavy. Yummy

Such a cute little cafe, with a shady little outside area that is perfect for Sunday brunch. I had the french toast, which was absolutely delicious. My partner had the dhal, which he liked as well. The staff were also very friendly. :)

Coffee and food is always good and staff are lovely! I have had the poached eggs, fruit toast and jaffle. I love having this place in the neighbourhood.

Very cute cafe!
We had the chicken burger & red velvet waffles, they were delicious. The chicken was tender & the sauce matched it really well. Red velvet waffles were super decadent, cannot wait to have them again :)

It takes a lot for a place to deserve a five star rating (especially a Brisbane cafe), but here we are. I recently went to The Colour Nine for a going away lunch for a colleague at work. Admittedly, looking at the menu beforehand didn't inspire confidence and I was concerned it wouldn't be an impressionable experience: how wrong I was.

The Colour Nine from the outside is an unpretentious and low-key looking cafe. It's not overly big and is nested amongst suburban homes, but as the saying goes: don't judge a book by its cover. Upon arriving, it was immediately apparent that the service here is beyond fantastic. The staff were attentive, the owner was outside taking orders and providing menus. Our drink orders were taken pretty much as soon as we arrived. Considering my cafe experience usually involves having to go up to a counter to order or waiting 15 minutes to have your order taken because they're understaffed, the experience I had at The Colour Nine was refreshing.

Service aside, let's talk about the coffee and food. I had a cold-brew coffee (Kenyan single origin) and it was amazing. Rather than provide pre-bottled cold-brews like a lot of cafes do, this place does their own cold-brew coffee from scratch. The owner even came around and provided free cold-brew coffee refills to anyone who wanted one (possibly due to the size of our table). Other people ordered mostly flat whites and cappuccinos, the latte art was great and they even stencilled the cafe name ontop of the coffee, all milk options are provided here as well (if you're lactose intolerant, they have Zymil).

Lastly, let's talk about the food. Being a cafe, I wasn't expecting anything special food wise but if there is one thing you should do if you come here, it's order some food. Everyone ordered a varying range of different food and everyone at our table was impressed with the quality and speed of which the food came out.

I personally ordered the tacos which were fantastic, the dressing was delicious, the ingredients were fresh and presented well. They came with a slice of lime as well to give it that extra zest. Many ordered the chicken burger and I must say, I had a serious case of food envy when I saw how big and delicious it looked. A lot of the comments I heard were the burger was better than something you'd get at a lot of burger places and even better than a burger from Miss Kays (which is a huge call).

Ontop of all of this, The Colour Nine is child and animal friendly. They had plenty of high chairs, which is the one annoying thing about a lot of Brisbane cafes in that they only have one or two high chairs, this place had like four or five of them. If you want to bring your dog along with you for a morning coffee or breakfast, go for it.

Once the secret gets out about The Colour Nine, you'll find it hard to get a table here. But honestly, this is one of the most impressive cafes in Brisbane that has left quite an impression on me and it's located amongst suburban homes in Stafford of all places. Once you come here, you'll find it hard to go anywhere else.

This place rocks. Looked after 13 of us for lunch with great service. The southern fried chicken and cold drip coffee is a real winner. Will definitely be coming back!

Best chicken burger ever!

Pleasantly surprised by this hidden suburban cafe with great services.
Their ice coffee is to die for as well! will come back for sure!

Not a great place for breakfast as there are not many savoury options and what is there is not good value. Lunch options sound ok although can't say I'm inspired to return and try them

Amazing cafe service up some really quality dishes, not what I expected to find in Stafford when visiting my sister! The flavor and presentation of the meals is restaurant/fine dining quality, yet extremely affordable. Very quiet leafy area to enjoy tasty coffee's and my favorite fried chicken tacos!

Unexpected delight in Stafford! Have been multiple times and always had excellent food and service. Not you usual boring breakfast fare, check out the menu and you will see a varied interesting and most importantly delicious selection. Have tried everything from Dhal, jaffels, tacos to waffles. Coffee is also made with care. Dog and children friendly.
