Review Tarragindi Thai - Brisbane

Angie Neville
Went here for my birthday and was so impressed. Decor was beautiful, staff were gorgeous, and the food was not only generous, but A-MA-ZING! Took my birthday cake and they kept it in a fridge and brought it out with candles lit, made so much effort. Thank you Tarragindi Thai ❤

The food is top quality - meat tender but full of flavour - crispy stir fry veges keeping it healthy - and the chicken fried rice is addictive. One thing that really makes this restaurant stand out for me is the decent portion size of the meals - well worth the cost and very filling.

The food was delicious and enough for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful 😊.

First visit for dinner last week was great. Lunch yesterday was marginal. We ordered the exact same variety because of the flavors. Seems food taste and quality are not consistent.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Brisbane! They are always super busy whether it be takeaway or dine-in. Atmosphere is good and food is delicious. The chicken moneybags are amazing and a must try.

I have been to this restaurant 4 times in one month and let me say, that it does not disappoint! The best and authentic thai food coupled with great serving sizes and reasonable prices not to mention a beautiful and intimate atmosphere. Highly recommend the whole fish, yellow curry with coconut rice, seafood or chicken pad thai and tom kai gai soup! I will definitely be back.

Great flavours. Great selection of dishes that's not your stock standard Thai takeaways. Quite expensive but you get quality ingredients (like whole fish and juicy fat prawns). Service can be quite slow sometimes, especially when it gets busy. Booking ahead recommended during peak times.

Nice ambiance. Friendly efficient service. Delicious food. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced menu choices.

Outstanding authentic Thai food. Been to many Thai restaurants in my time and this one stands out as one of the best. Food is fresh, portions are big and prices are great. Come back here every week. AAA+++

Visited on a Sunday night and was pretty quiet - about 5 tables including ours.

Loved the interior decorations and general ambience of the restaurant.

Service was ok . There was only one serviette on the table for three. The waitress tipped over my glass of water, brought me over some paper serviettes and walked off so I cleaned up the water myself. My partner has a peanut allergy so asked for no peanuts on the pad Thai but the first one they brought out had peanuts on it. Again, a different waitress came to our table and was just about to put the pad Thai down and then walked off without saying anything, came back 15 mins later with another plate without an explanation. We had essentially finished the other dishes by that point.

Despite the mishaps in service on a pretty quiet Sunday night, the food was pretty good. Pad Thai and fried rice had good balance of flavours and was tasty. The steamed barramundi with lemon was very tangy which we enjoyed but might be a bit too sour for some people.

Overall, we would come back to try other dishes since the food was authentic and tasty. Hopefully service will be better next time.

Rating 3.5/5

Really yummy food and well priced. I love the waterfall in the restaurant. It’s just nice hearing the fall of the water in the background.
So much food we had to package it up.
We will be back. Thanks again.
Lovely atmosphere and decore. The service was great and the food was delicious. We ordered the salt and pepper calamari and the duck red curry. Highly recommend both :)
Crab Cakes
Excellent Thai food. Ordered mussamam beer, basil chicken, hokkien noodles and salt and pepper prawns. All dishes were delicious, but i highly recommend the prawns. Absolute winners - a must-visit if you’re in the area.

Came here on valentines day, with our toddler and Grandma... everything turned out better than expected! Nice service, lovely steamed fish, and flavorful curries. The have some good value meal set options too. I wouldn't mind some more spicy kick but maybe thats just me? Anyway - 5/5 for a good valentines day :D

Have been a long term customer for many, many years. Consistently great Thai food with some alternatives to the norm. Staff are very friendly and cater well for the kids.

Lunch is cheap. Had Pad Thai twice and both times were way too sweet!
There's always flies flying around even in winter as the doors are opened.

Food was great, service was also welcoming. I recommend this place to others wanting to try a new Thai place. Parking is easy in the shop village.

Ordered takeaway here. Went into the shop to order it and was told it "won't be long", so we waited at the seats outside the door. Saw them put an order on the bench after 15 minutes, but they didn't come to us so assumed it was someone else's phone order. After 5 minutes (now 20 minutes wait) we went inside and were asked "how can I help you?" Yup, they couldn't even remember us. It was our order that had been sitting out on the bench (not even being kept warm and it was a freezing night)! Once we got home to eat, the beef was tough. But the chicken larb was passable. The seating inside looked nice so perhaps their service is better for dining in. Not sure.
Koko
Koko likes this place very much. Friendly service, good food, welcoming decor. What more could Koko want? It's also BYO so you can grab a bottle of wine a few shops down. Enjoy Pinot Grigio with prawn Pad Thai. The simple things in life....What more could Koko want?

I love this place - but just don't be temped to order take away, they never put their heart in it! Have now ordered a number of times and OMG almost worth putting down the sink. Ordered a jungle curry last night which was bland and so so so runny that I tipped the water out.IT'S TIME TO IMPROVE FOLKS
HanCat
Very tasty. I enjoy this restaurant for it's take away. Very nice food, we particularly like the Chicken Cashew. The price for rice is a bit much though . . . I usually make some at home when we phone in the order.

My husband and I were here for dinner on Saturday night around 6 pm. Cute place. Large furniture makes it feel squishy once everyone is seated. Great coconut rice! We had the mixed entrée barramundi with basil and red duck curry. Both delicious curry is a little on the funny side but the flavor was great also a little light on the fillings. Otherwise nice to try our local Thai place.

The best. Finest Thai dining in BRISBANE

Service so slow I fell asleep. Went here for the first time with expectation quite high. Was handed the menu and that was the last we saw of anyone - waited for 35 minutes for service. No one came near us, not even to order a drink before the meal! Left without notice by anyone. Service not good enough! What a pathetic way to treat customers.

Slow, expensive and cold.. The duck was small and dry. One of the two meals ordered seemed to have been forgotten. The rice was cold. We shared an appetizer so they charged an additional $1.00. $7.00 corkage. We are not going back.
Urbanchowboy
Not so crash hot anymore. This place used to turn out some pretty decent Thai food (albeit inconsistent) going back three-five years, but has really lost its way in the past 12 months. Standards of cooking have gone beyond inconsistent, and the food is now not particularly good. Last few times we ordered takeaway, each dish was uniformly under seasoned and out of balance. Virtually no heat to be detected even in a dish such as Beef & Chill. I would say they have most certainly lost their previous chef and have yet to find a decent replacement. And they are pretty overpriced now for what they are offering. There is a much, much better Thai restaurant to be found on Logan Rd in Holland Park that is worth the extra five minutes travel.
Nonsense
Don't bother. Ordered a vegie cashew nut stir fry with coconut rice takeaway. Both were so disappointing that we didn't even finish eating. The vegie spring rolls were ok but would not go back based on the main. Over priced and the food was soggy and mushrooms undercooked.
Jenni
Awesome. We have been here lots of times and the food is always delicious. We have never had any that we didn't like.

Went last night a Friday t.... Went last night a Friday
they'd run out of beef for Masaman
made a rash decision, make it pork ???
V ordinary
even the cashew duck stir fry was average
this place is so on & off

Just splendid. I came here for the first time about a month ago and ordered the Basil Barramundi. It was just amazing. I've been back twice since then and tried the whole Barramundi in choo chee sauce (although it may have been gang panang, I can't remember) the food has always been great as has the service. It's not the cheapest Thai restaurant in the area but the quality of the food id exceptional. Will definitely be here again next week.

Jodie Richards. Have been dine in and take away customers since they opened. The quality and flavour of the food is not consistent. Some nights it's the best we've had and some, like lasts night's Penang Curry, can be be quite tasteless and disappointing. My greatest disappointment is that they have put all the prices up and removed the 10% take away discount. Basic stir frys are now $16.90 and seafood $19.90. This put our order up from $83.30 to $104.30 in one hit. We can't justify loyalty at that price.

Disappointing attitude. Being a regular diner and takeaway customer, I was disappointed when we dined for the first time this year to be told, (in a very discourteous manner, when my husband opened his byo beer) that the restaurant is now licenced and we would have to pay corkage. It wasn't having to pay corkage that was the issue, it was the manner in which we were attacked and told. It would have been nice if we had been told at the door when we entered with our byo bag as we have done so many times before.
We were quite taken aback at the attitude and will consider whether we go back! Personally, I prefer not to support businesses who do not value my custom.

Not very good taste. Satay chicken entree needs review. Store owner should take his family to Sings Asian Kitchen at Coorparoo to compare his dishes quality and price. Sorry for the bad review but you need to lift your game.
Belinda Zordan
Great vegie stir fry. Impressive array of fresh vegetables and a very tasty sauce. The coconut rice is also delicious. Great to see so many vegetarian options.
Aaaaaa
Nice setting and decor. Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Food was ok but nothing special.
Chani
The staff are quite nice but my partner and I ordered a prawn Pad Thai and a vegetable Pad Thai and it was super greasy with no flavour. The prawns also had no flavour and the spring rolls we ordered were undercooked inside. Based on our 1st experience we won't be back.
Jnel_3
Waste of $$$$. Would not recommend. Over priced for the quality that you receive. Prawns tasteless and over cooked - very disappointing. Won't go back

Love this place, one of the best restaraunts around Brisbane. Been here so many times and always great.

Just ok.... Started with money bags the pastry was crisp however the filling was blended too much which made the texture stodgy and unpleasant to eat. Would have preferred minced prawn with some chestnuts for texture. The money bags tasted like the consistency of rubber.
Mains.. Well I had the Salmon was overcooked but .. Great flavour in the sauce.. Though bones left in??? Was in a Choo Chee Curry (thick in sauce) so almost choked a couple of times. Restaurant you need to let me know if they are in or take them out simple. Lastly we were given our own doggie bag to be filled by our table. A lot weren't bothered but a bit different when most places will organise that for you. Overall would not go back.
Melly
Ok but could be much better. We went as a group of 8.The entrees ...satay sticks, money bags and coconut prawns delicious. We ordered 8 different dishes and rice .They served the rice on our plates and then the dishes were brought out over the next half hour or so. The last one to receive his ordered a dry jungle curry which he didn't eat due to the toughness of the beef and it looked like a soup!! One ordered a choo chee fish and got a choo chee mixed seafood. They did make the right dish for us when we complained. The staff are polite .She said she would tell the chef about the inedible curry. Otherwise the dishes were tasty and plentiful and well presented. Probably won't be back soon .

-----13 Apr, 2013-----

Not as good as it used to be. It's a year since we have eaten here. It is always jam packed so the service slow but in the past it has been worth the wait. The chicken satay stick wasn't cooked properly. 2 chicken dishes arrived instead of seafood ordered. The beef spicy dry curry although very flavoursome had lots of chunky onion with a few beans and chunky capsicum. The beef was chewy. The chicken panang and the choo chee with prawns were full of sauce again with a few pieces of chunky capsicum and a few chopped beans. The sauces looked and tasted very similar. Despite the good flavours I was overall disappointed with this restaurant which we have been to many times over the years.

Used to be good. Ordered the steamed barramundi with ginger and shallow. The dish came out drowned in a lot of liquid. Fish was overcooked and covered in scales.

The manager was called upon requesting that the dish be removed from the bill. Manager advised that this is how their fish is cooked and that I shouldn't order it next time.

Rest of meal was great but their coconut rice isn't as it used to be.

Great!. Great food
Great service
Great atmosphere
Great decor
Great that's it's BYO (at a small charge) and there's a BWS next door.

All in all great night out

I wasn't fussed on their Green Papaya Salad, it was very ordinary.

Tarragindi Thai - Tarragindi, Brisbane. A more elaborate, larger and beautiful version of the suburban Thai takeaway, Tarragindi Thai is certainly one of the area's most popular and acclaimed eateries. It cannot be missed, utilising being on the far end of the shopping junction really well. With a fair bit of Thai in the local area as well, it comes up as possibly the best of them around.

Thai restaurants often have their characteristic decorations and tapestry around the place. Tarragindi does it more so than others and there is certainly an ambience at nightime. Stepping through the door is akin to going into another part of town.

A big group at home, means it was easier to get takeaway. This was chosen as the ultimate place. The meals that were gotten were;
2 Beef Masaman Curries - since it is really popular in my family, mostly with my mum almost had to get two so there was enough to go around.
And one each of;
Vegetarian Pad Thai
Penang Pork
Red Curry Duck
Fish Choo Chee
Chili and Basil Vegetables
All of these meals were fantastically cooked and each had unique flavours to distinguish themselves from the other.

To begin with the weakest was the vegetarian pad thai. It had the flavours and good ingredients but was a bit on the dry side. The tofu in it was soft and juicy but all up it was forgettable next to the other dishes.

It was a relief to see the vegetables be able to be eaten as they are instead of drowned in a cloying and bland sauce. With just hints of chili and basil - fresh flavours to compliment fresh ingredients - the vegetable dish was really good as a light choice to offset the other heavier dishes. There was a reasonable selection of vegetables in different colours to prevent it from becoming plain.

The fish choo chee was a lovely, if understated dish. The fish that they used was white, soft and mild making it perfect for such a dish.

The penang pork was one of the better dishes, with a peanuty sauce. The flavour and consistency of the sauce were both very good and it could be eaten on its own - with rice of course.

There is definitely intiative in getting two lots of beef masaman curry - it is one of the best dishes to get from around the world and it can easily represent what good Thai cuisine is capable of doing. The cuts of beef were few, but large and robust; these came apart very easily and were tender and deeply flavoured. The beef then flavoured the sauce - which is really thick and complex in flavour - and infuses the potato within the curry with some garnishing of peanuts. If you have not tried massaman curry before, you ought to do yourself a favour and go to a Thai place and order one - you will not regret it.

Personally though, I often find it hard to go past a good duck dish and the duck red curry does exactly that. With the fatty parts of the meat - skin included - put in the flavour really came out. It was peppered with pineapple and lychees creating a contrasting duality of sweet and spicy tastes.
The duck meat had its usual hard to describe texture; it was by no meats hard to bite off but using the terms soft or tender is inaccurate. Regardless, this was possibly my favourite dish of the night.

A good Thai place is a really good Thai place, this one proves that point. There is such a good selection of dishes and they often have tastes that are unique to each other so they do not become just one indishtinguishable conglomorate. Being within the nearby area, there is a good chance that I will be back in some way or another; I am absolutley stoked and fine about that fact.

Great Lunch deal. The lunch specials here would be one of the best value lunches in Brisbane at just $8.90. Good food, generous servings, friendly service, nice decor and the option of dining inside or out on the high set verandah to catch the breeze and/or sun.
Angie
I asked for a vegetable stir fry, and what I got was a sugary saucy soup with a few veges thrown in. This is not a Thai stir fry! My Thai at Auchenflower still wins in my opinion
Bree
Top curry!. Love the food! I'd definitely recommend the beef massaman curry, because they slow cook it which makes it deliciously soft and the curry flavour is great. The tables are decorated in a Thai Style and the service is professional and great to see the waitresses wearing thai outfits!
Melissa
YUM!. This place is great and good value. The servings are huge, AND the food tastes great. I tried about 4 different curries (and left quite full).
Ellasyn
Decent suburban Thai. Ive been here several times in the last few years and I'd head back at least once a year. Meals are decently priced and quite big servings. A variety of dishes are on offer. The restaurant can get quite busy so I would advise on booking for Fri and Sat nights.

Went for dinner here tonight... Ordered steamed dim sims, chicken pad Thai, red curry and steamed rice between my partner and I. Was asked if we'd like it to come out all together which we said yes too. After 15 minutes a different waitress came out and asked if we wanted it separate which we declined. 5 minutes later the entree came out by itself. Then 10 minutes later the rice and pad Thai. 10 minutes later the curry. After we finished these meals we waited 15 minutes then asked for a dessert menu... We got one straight away. Then after 15 minutes again got up and went to the counter to ask what was going on. No apology just asked if we where paying cash. Then went to McDonald's for our desert :) the pad Thai tasted burnt, the dim sims where cold. Although the red curry was very nice and rice was great and soft. With plenty of other Thai places around we will be trying every other place before returning here and suggest others do the same.

Thai Food. Tarragindi Thai has nice food but it is quite rich/heavy in flavour and is a bit expensive so more suited to an occasional meal. The atmosphere at Tarragindi Thai is generally good although it can get quite busy. The staff are always really friendly. An alternative to Tarragindi Thai is Bangkok Garden at Coopers Plains. The food at Bangkok Garden is also really nice, not as rich and is definitely not as expensive...good for take away. I would recommend you try both.
CoffeeLady
Yum. Tarragindi Thai has been consistently good over the last 3 odd years I've lived in the area. A good selection for everyone, great vegetarian food. They are busy weekends so expect some delays
Val
Yum!. Great to have such a welcoming restaurant less than 2km from home. Always friendly and courteous service. I particularly love their coconut prawns.
Estella
We had 3 dishes here tonight: Beef salad, stir fry basil prawn, and thai fried rice. Big portions! My hubby and I can hardly finish them. The beef salad was a bit salty though! it was a 4.5 star meal overall. Worth coming back to try out some other dishes.
Rachel Q
Absolutely fantastic. Went again just recently after not going for years and wondered why I don't go there more often! The service was very efficient and friendly, the food fantastic and the servings very large. Great atmosphere. Was actually the restaurant that got me into thai food initially, looking back. I am honestly surprised by the negative reviews as we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and all found the food absolutely spectacular. Beware of over-ordering is all I have to say... it all sounded so nice we got too much in the end. The Cashew Duck is sublime. New favourite restaurant.

Meat in vegetarian meal, hidden charges and apathetic service. Don't bother

Fabulous. We're from Melbourne and love Thai and this is definitely up in the running of the Top 5 Thai places we've been to. Highly recommended.

WORST THAI EVER!. My daughter and I went for dinner, we had the fish cakes for entree, and a sweet and sour chicken, for main meal, The chicken was tough, and we had trouble chewing through the meat,so tough, i commented to my daughter it was like chewing through an old boot!
it was that bad we decided to leave, with most our meal left on the plate! after informing the waitress we payed and left
The service was good, but the food worst Thai we have ever had, thumbs down Tarragindi Thai!

ขอบคุณครับ Thank you to Tarragindi Thai for the best Thai takeaway I've had in ages. Tom Kha was the perfect blend of hot sour salty and sweet; beef Mussaman was deliciously creamy and full of flavour; and the chicken Pad See Eaw tasted great (not too sweet as can sometimes be the case) but would have benefited from more veggies eg. Broccoli. The 10% discount for takeaway was appreciated, and we will definitely be back!
Sophie
Fantastic spicy Thai food that begs you to go back again and again. A great local find!
Matt Baker
Best Thai in Brisbane so far. The curries, particularly the beef massaman, are terrific. Friendly service.
Simone_bennett
Not bad - not great. We got take out from Tarragindi Thai. the food was fresh and tast albeit fairlly expensive.

We had spring rolls, satay chicken and stirfry vegies & prawns in oyster sauce.

Spring rolls were fresh, crispy and not at all oily. The Satay left a lot to be desired, it wasn't as tasty as it could have been and was very light on the actual satay sauce.
The vegetables had a generous helping of large fresh prawns in them but eh sauce was really watery and leaked everywhere.

I'd give it 6/10.

Great Lunch. Large servings
Mild version of green chicken curry
Fish cakes rubbery
Too much rice
