Review Thai Antique - Brisbane

Suzie Lee
Suburban Gem! We came here on the recommendation of a friend and we think that this is a really wonderful option for Thai food in Carina. The food is excellent, the service is friendly, the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. The star of the meal was the fried barramundi topped with a fragrant Thai herb salad. I only gave them 4 out of 5 stars because I didn't think that they used fresh lime juice. They allow you to BYO wine which is a plus!

Very nice Thai restaurant. Didn’t like take away food because they got cold when I arrive home, but Thai antique does really good on take away. Very hot and fresh when I picked the food up. They were still hot when I arrived Capalaba. Taste good. I love the pineapple fried rice and chilli fried fish.

My family and I have gotten food from here a number of times, as well as my best mates family. Always had very good experience. Last night was different. Very different. We ordered big meal, 4 entrees, 5 mains, rice. Taking into account cost, the food was worth, maybe, 1/3 of that. Every single meal was about 2 1/2 stars, not 3. Not sure if there was change in management or new chef, the quality of the food and value for money was certainly not present. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm very reluctant to order again. Shame.

After seeing the enticing pictures in my feed and positive reviews, I decided to order delivery for lunch. I ordered the massaman curry $14.90 with the lamb shank (+ $9). And $8 delivery fee The food was delicious, but with limited veggies and poor presentation I didn't feel it was good value (even taking delivery vs eat the restraunt into account ) . See pics for expectation vs reality

Next level Thai - large servings and the quality is nothing like I have had in Brisbane before. Service is very quick - order online at the table. Licensed also, this place will not disappoint.

We had a wonderful feeling after coming here 3 mths back and since had been here twice. Last Monday, we came and vow not to return. The pad Thai did not have peanut toppings. And when we had our favorite coconut ice cream, the peanuts topping were not fresh nor crunchy n had stale taste.

I got the Chicken Laksa and the Pad Si-Eew and they were so sugary and unpleasant to eat. I know some restaurants add quite a bit of sugar to make savoury dishes taste better but the Pad Si-Eew beef almost tasted candy-like. Also not impressed they packed the noodles in with the Laksa broth as they were a bit overcooked by the time I got home (I got takeaway). The staff seemed pleasant enough and the prices very reasonable but the fact is I didn't finish either dish as it was so unpleasant to eat.

Curry puffs are yum. Cashew chicken was good, honey chicken was good, pad Thai was good but no peanuts :( and lacked that classic pad Thai taste. Coconut rice was perfect. The cashew chicken and pad Thai both had the same kind of stir fried taste. Have gotten take away twice from here, and it was much better the first time. Will return :)

Our local Thai place. We love this place. Always consistently good. Full of authentic Thai flavours and made to our taste. We love spice and this place makes it Thai spicy. Our go to dish is pad see ew and green curry. Our girls love their rice noodles. And they always get super excited when we get dinner from this place. Great portion size. Restaurant is very cute with a garden at the back with more seating space. We mostly do takeaway. Our go to restaurant when we want Thai. One of the best in brissy.

This little suburban gem blows many others out of the water. Amazingly friendly staff, great pricing and the food is always spot on. I get the lunch special almost every week and it’s always speedy, fresh and tasty. I can’t rave about this place enough!

Ordered a takeaway delivery, the Value Pack which was the perfect serving size for our group of four. A great price (~$16 per person), especially for what you get in the pack.

Came with a serve of spring rolls and curry puffs. Both tasted fresh and the pasty was perfectly fried.
The hokkien noodles were super tasty, coated with sauce and vegetables and a generous amount of chicken.
The stir fried cashew was super tasty, again generous with the chicken. It was a little sweet, however there is sweet chilli paste used when cooking, so it’s not too big of a deal.
The massaman curry was very good, beef nice and tender and the curry sauce was delicious.

Overall, the takeaway was very good and everyone was happy with the order. Would definitely love to try again, perhaps to dine in and try some other menu items.

We came based on the Zomato rating. We ordered the chicken curry and the Thai beef salad and special song peanut curry. For dessert we had the fried ice cream which I thoroughly enjoyed.
My friend ordered 1/4 strength coffee which was made to her liking and she ordered a second.
The meals were good. The only advice is the Thai beef salad had ground rice I believe of which I am not a fan. Therefore I was a little disappointed as it was not mentioned in the menu.
The service was okay. A busy little restaurant especially for a Thursday night

We picked up a Stir Fried Chilli & Basil Chicken with a medium steamed rice and a Chicken Pad Thai. The medium rice was not necessary for us, small would be sufficient. I found the stir fry a bit sweet, I think they use a sweet chilli sauce in it. I prefer less sweet but it was okay. There was tonnes of sauce, which I like and a variety of veges which was great. The pad thai was maybe a bit subtle in flavour but nice with a squeeze of lemon. My partner liked the noodles they used. The prices were reasonable and it is relatively close to home so we may try other dishes next time. NOTE: Photos taken after we ate. The containers were full of food :)

Tried to order a takeaway order and asked to be put on hold .... for 15 mins. Hung up and called back and asked again to go on hold - I mentioned the previous long call wait- a was hung up on. Sorry their food and service was great, but this leaves a lot to be desired.I’d probably will give them a miss in future. Disappointing.

Nice neighbourhood restaurant with friendly staff. Ordered a staple, seafood tom yam. They do an interesting version by adding coconut water so its slightly thicker and sweeter but we asked for it to be Thai-spicy and it did pack abit of punch although the sweetness and richer texture made it almost like a curry. We also ordered a whole barra which was fresh and delicious. We tried their special black pepper soft shell crab. That was dissappointing as the coating used to fry the crab was quite thick so we could not really take the crab. Also being laden in the sauce meant it wasn’t crispy but soggy.
Overall a decent place that is worth a visit. I think you might need to customise your order if you want the authentic version of some dishes.

Awesome Thai restaurant. Dare I Say it, it's the best in Brisbane! Whole Barramundi was so tasty and fresh, not overcook! The Price is really reasonable as well! The portion is quite large in Compare to other Thai around Brisbane. Definitely gonna come back for more!

Best chicken friend rice here. Even my fussy daughter loves the rice. All the entrees are beautiful
Staff are friendly and food is priced well
Always a favourite for my family

Completely out of the way for us, but we saw it driving past and thought it liked interesting. The decor was simple, but the place was popular, and when our mixed entree arrived we discovered why (see the photo). Fresh ingredients, grilled satay (not deep fried), great combination of dipping sauces. Then the mains arrived (massaman beef, chicken stir fry with basil, ginger & cashews) We got so involved in tasting them we forgot to take any more photos. Now we're having going to have a special trip back!

Have been here around 8 times and everytime the food is always amazing and the service is always friendly! I recommend this place to everyone I know. 👌
Chris Eyles
Been going to this thai resturant for around 5 years now! Best service, amazing curries (thai red, green, yellow, panang) & their pad thai is just perfect. All at quite affordable prices!
Carly Cameron
Delicious food, great service and a neat and clean resturant. Unlike many Thai restaurants, the green curry actually tastes like a curry! Will defintley return.

Always friendly service from this little Thai Restaurant. The food here is wonderful and not as expensive as other Thai Restaurants. We ordered the Pad Thai, Beef Salad, Black Pepper Soft Shell Crab which were all full of flavour, fresh ingredients and plenty of love. Thoroughly recommend this little gem of a place.
Calum Ballinger
This place was recommended by a friend and since trying it for the first time a couple of months ago we have not gone anywhere else for Thai takeaway. The food is superb, the prices fair and the service great. Highlights so far have been the Massaman Curry and the Panang Curry.

Stopped in here for a quick bite on our daughter's recommendation.
One of the hosts was warm and chatty, in contrast to the other was pretty cold and non-engaging.
We shared a great bowl of Tom Kha chicken soup, packed with fresh veges and tender chicken in a sweetish, creamy soup base - delicious!!
We also had the basil chilli chicken and long song peanut sauce with beef. Both were full of flavour and tender veges. The sides of coconut rice and roti were also really tasty.
Nice enough setting with indoor and outdoor seating options.

Absolutely delicious!! Authentic Thai flavours and very well cooked fresh ingredients. Great food, good portions, afforadable prices, lovely decor and friendly staff. Definitely a winner and my favourite local Thai. Takeout menu is in the special stack! 😄

Our favourite local Thai restaurant in Brisbane! Every other Thai place we visit (when we're away on holidays) seems to be a disappointment in comparison... Definitely recommend the Pad Ki Mao (amazing stir-fry with peppercorns & basil) and the Green Curry (sweet, spicy & creamy). Poa and staff are friendly and the atmosphere is warm & welcoming. Highly recommend!
Patty
Great service, nice authentic Thai food. Beautiful decorations. Great location only a few minutes drive from Westfield. Highly recommended ;)
Melinda Lombardo
Great local Thai place in Carindale. The cheap prices are by no means a reflection of the high standard of food. Have never had a bad experience at Thai antique both dining in and taking away. Their massaman curry is definitely a favourite!
Nathan B
Fantastic flavours, friendly service, nice setting. Great value, especially their value pack. This place is always full and after having been their twice I know why. If you want to eat there, reservation is essential.

The food and service here is amazing. Been here twice, both times with a big group and during busy periods. We got our food fast and delicious, and we were treated well. One of the best, if not the best, thai place I've been to in Brisbane.

Only dish I wouldn't recommend is the Laksa.
Phoodie
Cute little restaurant just down the street from my place. A very cosy atmosphere. The fried rices there are filling and very yummy! Love it!
Catdog
Been here a few times, food is great! They do a very good chicken cashew nut and a pad sew ew, they include heaps of vegetables and the meat is good quality. I’d recommend it.
Steven Dudley
Edible but there is much better Thai restaurants around this side of town; like Mons Ban Sabai.

The beef in the massaman is of a very cheap cut; although extremely tender, it's high fat content is rather disgusting. It was more like unsalted corned beef rather than lean beef.

The chicken skewers were nice and the sauce was nice and mild, but was lacking on the peanut taste.

This place is a last resort, definitely not a first choice.

Is there another Thai Antique restaurant in Carina?. Oh dear, so disappointed. I had read the reviews and was really looking forward to it.
To start with there was a long queue for takeaways queueing through the indoor dining area. And we waited and waited until every last one of them was served before we got our meal. We do like thai food and I don't doubt that this was good if we could have tasted it through the sugar. Maybe we are unusual in this day and age to want to taste the ingredients without lashings of sugar.
Sure , the prices are good and they obviously do a terrific trade with takeaways but the reviews do not give a real picture. Sorry to be a negative Nellie but this is a very honest review of how 4 of us felt about the Thai Anitue. .
Nadine
Yum Yum Yum. This is by far the best thai in Brisbane. I have tried many. I love the choo chee curry with veggies and tofu, such a sweet and coconutty flavour and different to what most thai places serve up as it's often only with fish surprisingly. The panang curry is amazing also as well as the Laksa noodle soup. I drive across from Greenslopes to get this because nothing has since compared. Serving sizes are great, always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Need to make sure your order is exactly as you say if over the phone as the english isn't grand but the staff are so lovely. Eating in is good too, adequate size and great customer service. I could rave on and on about this place it is so great.

Quality. This place has come along way since beginning at Carina Heights, beautiful food and beautiful staff!! Tom the boss is awesome, always gets himself involved and makes himself well known with customers!! Myself and family and friends love this little local!! Gives ELIOS a run for its money

Absolutely fantastic! This is my new local and I could not be happier! Fantastic pricing and amazingly delicious food with the nicest staff!!
Recommend it to everyone!

Consistently delicious!. Always great Thai and lovely service. Laksa soup is amazing. Very generous meal sizes. A must!

Fan-thai-stic. Contrary to the dribble I read In Donnas post, this place is consistently fantastic. Have been going there for at least 2 years and have always had a great experience
Donna.sis
Donna. The food was tasteless and the stir fries were more like stews. Really revolting and I did not eat mine rather than waste it I took it home because we had paid for it and fed it to my dogs

The best Thai I have ever tasted. I love Thai food. I have been living in different countries (USA, Canada and now Australia), and I always like to try the local Thai restaurants because is one of my favorite international cuisines. Since I moved to Brisbane, I was amazed to see so many Thai restaurants, I have tried some, but none of them really amazed me, they were not out of the normal average taste. Thai Antique restaurant on the other hand, transport me to another world with their delicious flavors and well balanced spices. I ordered to take away the sweet and sour fried stir fried, the Tom Kha soup and the coconut rice. The stir fired and the soup were exceptional, good size portions and a good amount of meat (chicken), I mention this, because I noticed that in some places the portions are really small, or if the size is ok, then the amount of meat they add is almost unnoticeable. The only thing I did not like much was the coconut rice, it was very mushy for my taste, but I guess some people like that. Lastly and most importantly, the prices are really affordable. Conclusion: I will definitely be back to try other dishes, and I would suggest you give it a try, I totally recommend it!

First disclosure: I have never been in Thailand, so I really do not know how to compare it to the real deal.
Second disclosure: I have never written a restaurant review before, but this food was sooo amazing that I feel they really deserve that people spread the word for doing such a great job! :)

Local hidden secret. This restaurant is cute, small and cosy. The food is brilliant and so is the atmosphere. Great value for money.
BigFellaBella
Good Food and Good Value. The family all headed to Thai Antique on Sunday night and we all really enjoyed the food. Good value for money with the meals very generous in portion. Paid the little bit extra to have the left overs boxed up for taking home. Nice quaint surrounds with both inside and kerbside dining. Recommend.

Food served slow due to a big group of people but quality and taste was fantastic. I tried Fried vege with chilli and basil and its serve was big and yum yum yum. People and her service was nice. I will definitely go again.
Maree.68
Fantastic!. All food ordered was superb from entree to main. Service was amazing, so attentive and speedy. Cute decor. Definitely going again!
Liz Fell
Great Value!. We read the good reviews for Thai Antique and decided to put it to the test. We ordered take away yellow curry and chicken pad thai, which was ready to pick up in fifteen minutes! The chicken pad thai was better than your average pad thai. The yellow curry was great, however we have had slightly better before. The meals are really big and great value for money!

Tried this a few nights ago and I was impressed. Waitress was friendly and gave great service and the food was yummy. Would definitely recommend

Thai antique restaurant is brisbane south easts qld best kept secret. I have been eating regularly at this warm and charming restaurant. Where I'm always greeted with a smile the food is fresh and flavoursome. I suppose the most important thing is the food is always consistent with very generous food portions. The chicken basil and chilli is to die for. The takeaway containers carry exactly the same amount of food I tested it out ! See u guys next Friday night !
Mr Foodie
What gives?. Been a regular here for a long time now, always great fresh flavoursome meals, but I got take away the other day and they got these new smaller containers that are so small and just less than half full? I was disappointed to see this. The sizes were perfect before. Please change back to the way it was. Your food is excellent but no need to go cheap on the sizes now, you're busy enough to not cut corners here.

But as I said, it's great fresh food as always and it's a great place to dine but my gripe is the only one I can give them.

Have been coming to this place since the walls were bare and they had just moved in.... The atmosphere has become more cozy and comfortable but the friendly staff and great food hasn't changed... This is the best Thai food my wife and I have had outside of Thailand!!!
Andrew Tabemono
Reasonably priced yummy Thai food. The larb is highly recommended. Friendly staff and love the cosy intimate atmosphere. $0.20 takeaway containers... not a deal breaker but cmon!!
Gigi
My Local!. Love this place! Spring rolls are homemade and super yummy. Tom Yum soup probably one of the best I've had. The noodle dishes are my favourite. Love the pad see eiew. Service super friendly :)

Absolutely delightful. Stir fries are fresh and beautiful. Good serving size with plenty of meat, and great service. Well decorated and nice ambience. Very well priced.

No pretence and good food!. I've been driving past this establishment for two years, and finally decided to have dinner there tonight. This is a no-pretence family-run restaurant which has been operating for about two years in a small shopping strip not far from Carindale shopping centre. It's not huge, around 12 tables including 4-5 al fresco on the pavement. We were pleasantly surprised: The ambience is homely, but clean and neat. Perhaps Thai music might have been preferable to the jazz being piped. The pressed aluminium drinking bowls, obviously Thai in origin, were something I'd not seen before. The service was quick and pleasant. It was interesting to see vegetables being delivered to the establishment at 7 pm at night. It was more interesting to see the very brisk take-away trade, which outdid the table trade more than 2:1. We ordered a seafood green curry, a beef garlic stir fry, and a pork Thai fried rice. Each dish was tasty, well-cooked, and honest with traditional Thai cooking etiquette evident. The green curry may have been a bit thin, but my wife simply treated it like a soup and spooned it all up. We came away completely satisfied, and leaving well-fed and at less than $25 a head we were very happy and will be going back sooner rather than later.

Best Thai food I've tasted in Brisbane. Every dish on their menu is great except for the duck. Ordered the duck once for takeaway for dinner. It was dry and probably was made a couple of days ago. However, thumbs up for all the other dishes. Lunch special during weekdays is very good value. Best Thai food I've tasted in Brisabane by far.
Lauren
This little place is amazing!! Best local find. There's nothing close to their awesome in my area (carindale) I've tried heaps of places in Brisbane too and this is one of the best, I'm so glad it's near my house :) I've gotten all my friends hooked too.
Kirst
Amazing food and quick service followed up with very affordable prices. What more could you want? We came here once on a whim and cannot stop coming back again and again!
Rodney Collins
Disappointed. My wife and I dined at Thai Antique last night. The service was excellent but the food was disappointing. The entree (chicken spring rolls and vegetable samosas were good. The mains were disappointing. I have tasted far better Massaman Chicken Curry at other venues. The chicken was breast meat only and was dry and tasteless. There was far too much potato and not enough meat. The Crispy Duck with Plum Sauce was very disappointing. The duck strips were overcooked, dry, and tasted like cardboard. The strips were served on a bed of steamed vegetables without any real flavour or seasoning. The plum sauce was not enough to cover the duck pieces. The restaurant was full and the noise levels of other diners was unbearable. The manager did apologize about the noise.

PERFECT. Not much to say except GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE. Have been back many times and will continue. Surely one of the best thai restaurants in Brisbane
Christy Franklin
Exquisite food, excellent service and the food comes out fairly quickly considering it is so busy with restaurant diners and takeout customers. The beef Massaman is to die for!!
Zoe
Great!. My partner and I went a while ago with a voucher. We were so happy with everything!! The food was delicious - the pad Thai was the best I've had in a while. The service was great too - very friendly waitress and quick service despite the nearly full restaurant. The only possible negative is that the restaurant itself isn't the most fancy - but everything was clean and neat. Prices were very reasonable too (without voucher). BYO just sealed the deal! Sad to hear it's closed at the moment.
Flauteklautz
Good service and awesome fried fish. Service is excellent, will defnitly go back for the deep fried fish in thai salad sauce
Tamara Austen
What a gem!!!!. My husband, 2 girls and I went here last month on a voucher and I'm soooo glad that we did. We had the tastiest entree with lovely, authentic dipping sauces, and generous mains (curry, stir fry and coconut rice) that were the best we've eaten in a long time. We will definitely be coming back and telling our friends about this quaint little restaurant that is excellent on the taste buds and wallet!!!!
John Fidler
8 on a Date. Eight friends just had a meal at the Thai Antique Restaurant and it was great. The venue was very clean and colourful with appropiate thai decor, the menu was extensive with something Thai for everyone, the service was polite and efficent, the prices are extremely reasonable and best of all the food was great with relatively large servings. We will definately be going back to this restaurant.
Littletwist79
NOT HAPPY. After reading great reviews i ordered online. over 1 hour later no food, called them 5 times, no answer -voice mail full (figured they have closed down). waited another 30 mins just incase before calling another place. very disappointed, frustrated & HUNGRY!
Brizsuz
Best in a long time!!. I'm really excited about this little place because it's the best Thai I have had in a long time.

Enjoyed freshly cooked chicken skewers, curry puffs, red chicken curry, and thai spicy paste with beef. Servings are generous and all dishes were fresh, hot, and full of delicious flavours. I enjoyed every single mouthful and I didn't want the meal to end.

Went with a voucher, but will definitely be back to pay full price :)
Mellie
Great Value. Love this great little restaurant. Have great value lunch deals and the meals are quite generous. Love the whole barramundi excellent and tasty!
Chad Glover
Great Thai, very well priced, not to heavy. Will definetly be returning!

Not What We Expected. Going from the reviews we read here we thought we were in for a treat. Either the one who cooks well had the night off or none of you have standards deserving of critiquing restaurants.

We had the Duck in Plum Sauce (decent but not "I have to have this again". Pad Thai (way too sweet and salty, over the top on sauce). Pork Larb (rather gamey, not enough citrus, a touch salty and somewhat chewie. It takes skill to make mince chewie) and the Beef Salad (again too sweet and salty, beef a little tough).

We've eaten Thai all over the world including Thailand over a dozen times and certainly wouldn't agree with how good everyone here has said it is.

When I think of Thai food I think of chilli, zestiness, fresh flavours and fish sauce. Not over the top sugary, salty and saucy dishes which there seems to be an abundance of here in Brisbane.
Alan
Alan. Its not easy to find good Thai food in Australia when you have lived in Thailand for over 10 years but the Thai Antigue ticks the box. We have eaten at this Restaurant several times most recently Friday when we had a party of 9 and they were busy but everything came in good time and as usual was very good.
Joshsann
Great Place!. We have been coming here for a year now! Its the best thai around and pretty authentic too. Try the tom yum soup. So good...
Nikki Reeves
Amazing. Great little restaurant, nice to sit outside on a warm evening, little tea lights on your table and music from speakers outside all contribute to a lovely atmosphere. Goregous food, very fresh-try the Duck in plum sauce! We are very fussy with our Thai food and Thai Antique was one of the best restaurants we have tried topped off with fantastic value for money and great service. A must try-you will go back!
Delicious
Authentic Flavours. Finally in the Carindale vicinity we have a wonderful little Thai restaurant! I've visited most of the local Thai restaurants in this area and Thai Antique leaves the others by far! The entrees were delicious and filling. I'm a little partial to Massaman Curry and Beef Chilli and Basil. Both dishes were flavoursome and generous! Will be dining in next time.
Patrik Persson
Excellent Thai. Decided to try out this new place and MORE than impressed. Excellent food, excellent and happy service, friendly staff and no long wait for take away. Decor is simple and seats are limited, but certainly best Thai in the Coorparoo/Carina/Carindale/Camp Hill area, even compared to some of the more well known restaurants.

Thumps up. Just went there two hours ago with my love, we were driving by when we saw the restaurant and thought why not give it a go... The food was fabulous !!! and the service was good !!! Overall awesome !
Paul
Awesome place. This is a gem of a Thai Restaurant I found while driving through Carina Heights.

The service was friendly and the food was fresh and tasty.

The menu was quite traditional and presented quite well (compared to similiar restaurants).

Actually the whole restaurant was tastefully decorated, with sidewalk dining and nice decor.

They had very good prices for their traditional Thai dishes and a few special dishes like the whole barrumundi, which we had grilled with a lovely Thai sauce along with a (hot) Tom Yum soup.

Our meals came out quickly and I was impressed by the size of the barramundi. The service was fast and helpful, the girl behind the counter was quite adorable. :)

I was quite impressed overall, it was a tasty, fresh meal and was a laid back dining experience. I will definitely be back.

Also, they said that they are now open for lunch so it makes it even easier to get my fix of good Thai food.

Two thumbs up.
Courtney
Takeaway of Choice. This place is the best! The food is always super yummy and you're never left waiting too long for your meals. The young girl who works on the counter is adorable, very helpful and always happy to see you! I'm definitely a friday night regular here - the take out is cheap, fast and delicious. Win, win!
