Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went to The Ponycat which is a cafe located at New Farm. I’ve been here once for coffee, but not really a meal so we decided to try their breakfast. I found out that the staffs were Taiwanese and they not only sell Western style breakfast, but they also do Taiwanese style dinner on Friday and Saturday night.
New Farm is surrounded with many nice brunch cafes. I'm normally reluctant driving there purely because it can be troublesome finding a place to park. But yesterday I got lucky and found some residential parking available (thank god!) 🙏🏻
There was a time where Ponycat breakfast photos flooded my Instagram, and since then I've had this placed pinned on the back of my mind. As I entered the cafe for the first time, the counter area immediately drew my attention to the quirky menu layout on the blackboards and the drawings on the walls around 😺
Greeted by a staff, I was then told to take a seat as it is all table service. The menus were provided and my eyes were instantly scanning to see what I fancied. The eggs benedict seemed popular and I was feeling some nice poached eggs, so I settled with that and a flat white coffee.
Coffee - Unfortunately, was only served warm and the brew wasn't strong enough for me either. Guess I'll be needing the double shot & extra hot combo next time 🙂
Food - The breakfast changed things around though. Served on a long sourdough toast that was lightly toasted, were some fresh spinach, perfectly cooked bacon and two beautiful runny poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was very tasty as well. MUCH ENJOYED!! 🙌🏻
Friendly staff :)
Thank you Ponycat!
Tucked off Brunswick Street in New Farm, PonyCat is a lovely welcoming cafe that serves good food and coffee. With funky murals and cute découpage tables, this is an ideal spot to catch up with friends. Ordered the smoked salmon on rye - the toast was just right (not too hard or soft). The only setback would be the pickled cucumber; I personally feel that they were too sour to my liking. Enjoyed my cup of latte, highly recommend the coffee here. Overall, my friend and I had a pleasant brunch here and the staff was very friendly.
Wonderful and filling brunch. Avocado, grilled halloumi, poached egg, tomato, spinach, and two slices of bread with a balsamic drizzle. Very fast service. Small place in a cool neighborhood.

Finally found a cafe that is not overpriced but still nailed everything. They have fantastic food and drink. I tried the special, roast pork belly with fried eggs, wilted greens and mojo sauce" and detox smoothie. Everything tasted amazing and seasoned to perfection, and the portion size was really good. For my smoothie, it had a lot of veges, so I felt a bit adventurous ordering it, but it was so refreshing, and everyone at my table loved it. I will definitely be back!
Went for breakfast at 8 am in Saturday. At that time there was just one other couple but it didn't take long for the place to fill up! The menu was good with a nice variety of dishes. Coffee was great and service was very efficient without being over the top. I had the lentil and quinoa salad which was delicious with smoked salmon and roasted nuts. Prices were also very fair. Certainly one to try
Brisbane’s inner-city suburb of New Farm is definitely spoilt for choice in terms of unique cafes. On the outside, Ponycat has an unassuming facade and you probably wouldn’t think twice about it if you were walking past. However, it’s a different story once you step inside… it’s a cute and quirky little space perfect for Sunday brunch.
One of the prettiest and most delicious chia puddings I've had! The colours are simply exquisite on the plate and the roasted macadamia nuts give the dish that extra crunch and toasty goodness. Their coffee is also smooth and yum (mmm campos beans, my favourite).
Love this place! Visited for brunch on weekend with friends. A lovely brunch spot serving exceptional food. Really fresh ingredients and tasty combinations. Will deifinitelt be back again!
I've been to Ponycat three times now and can't fault the food. The menu's a great combination of healthy and naughty options. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Table clearing could be a it speedier, as we sat with a cluttered table for quite a while after we all finished eating, but in the greater scheme of things it's not too much of a worry.
One of my favourite and probably the best brunch place there is! We've been going here for the last 3 three years and never gave us any disappointment. All my friends that I introduce the place to falls in love with ponycat as well. Now it's like a meet up place for us.
Service at Ponycat was efficient and friendly. If I lived in the area I could definitely see myself popping here often. The menu is simple enough to go back to on a regular basis but still interesting enough to make it worth leaving home.
This place is quite nice. Nice area, nice fit out, but I feel like the food is overpriced for what it is. I get a haloum I burger on a brioche bun and the bun tasted a bit stale and the burger wasn't massive. I enjoyed the food but I feel like it is just a bit overpriced
This is my first time to write a review, I have to say the ponycat doing the best coffee I v ever had, and also the benny with salmon, delicious! Highly recommend!
I ordered the halloumi burger, it was delicious but unfortunately I couldn't taste the tiny thin piece of halloumi at all! The coffee was decent but came in a very small cup so was gone in about three sips.
First things first - Best eggs benedict i have had in Brisbane (big, bold and beautiful), however... the iced coffee was unfortunately terrible. Location and feel is great and I was lucky to get a table when i walked in. It was an extremely popular Saturday morning brunch location with a number of guests having to wait for tables to become available.
A great place for breakfast or lunch. Came in for lunch with a friend and we were promptly attended to and sat at a table inside. The staff were very friendly and took our orders right away. They serve campos coffee and their barista did a great job. The food was also good. They serve breakfast all day but had sandwich options for lunch as well. My friend ordered the breakky sandwich and I ordered the peri peri chicken with avocado sandwich. Both were very tasty with lots of flavour and came out in a reasonable time. Prices were reasonable too but would have liked a side to come with the meal. A small salad or chips would have been a nice touch.
We unwittingly came in 10 mins before they were about to close the kitchen but the dude serving us said it was ok. My friend ordered a chai latte and I got a haloumi burger. Both were wonderful. A really good amount of haloumi in that burger.
Idk who served us but he had a nose piercing and a very happy vibe. Thanks for being such a great waiter, dude! Great place, looking forward to going back!
Great atmosphere. The staff great the customers with such delight. cannot fault the service. It does get cold when seated outside but the great warm food more than compensates. Great campos coffee!!!!!!
Had brunch here. Coffee was consistently delicious across the table, well done. Took a big risk with the Boston Beans (if you know what I mean) and quite simply, amazing. Worth a try if you are in and around the area.
Found this place on Zomato and it had some good reviews and a high rating so decided to check it out on a Sunday morning. The place looked cool (was packed) and we were seated outside on the bench until a table became available. Luckily it did and we placed our orders. The menu looked delicious. Great variety of vegetarian meals as well. The meals and coffee came out pretty much at the same time and while mine was delicious, it was a tad on the cold side. Overall, a nice little brunch spot.
Went here this morning for the first time and it was jam packed! We got a seat at the bench outside but were moved inside within 10 mins on request. Not a huge menu but I had eggs benedict and it was tasty (despite one egg being undercooked). Coffee was delicious and the atmosphere was really warm, inviting and a little funky. Worth a shot if you're in new farm and after a coffee and brunch.
Stumbled across this place by accident because the place we wanted to go to was full. The inside is adorable and there is enough seating for quite a few people. The menu is written in chalk above the counter which I really liked. We did have to wait for a while to be served but that's understandable because we came on a Tuesday and there were only 2 people working. I ordered the banana and honey smoothie along with avocado and feta on wholemeal sourdough with a side of field mushrooms. All I can say it that the smoothie was amazing. My food was delicious and very fresh. The avocado was so green and my mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Definitely worth the money! :)
Ponycats in search of breakfast, we peaked into the cafe dressed in vines and tabletops of magazine cut-outs and coffee. After studying the blackboard counter inscribed with the menu, our orders were in and Sunshine and I ran over our Bali plans. For Sunshine, a Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict on crisp sourdough, spinach and topped with microherbs.
Gorgeous little cafe worth a visit! The staff were some of the nicest I've come across and the meals were delicious. The French toast looked amazing, but also tasted delicious and wasn't soggy like many other cafes! The sweet potato salad was also very tasty and I would definitely order it again. Campos coffee is always a winner. Great cafe with great ambiance.
Great food and coffee. We had a lovely brunch here - the field mushrooms and the savoury mince were generous and super tasty. Will be back!
Great food, excellent coffee! I had poached eggs with haloumi, (Benny Benny) just added haloumi....absolutely delicious.
Delicious, hearty and dog friendly. What more could you want.
Friendly neighbourhood cafe. All the wonderful hallmarks of that traditional neighbourhood café. Friendly staff and great coffee.
Great overall.. Big servings. Nice fresh ingredients. Simple twists on classic fare keep things interesting. Cool decor. My coffee was bad (tasted like it had been made with off cream!) but my friend says hers was good, so maybe I just got a dud?
Great tasting breaky. Had sweet potato pancake with salon. Very good. Coffe was good to. Staff very helpful & pleasant Would recommend
Such an inventive, mouth watering menu. The coffee and service equal the 'Amazing' array of flavours that compliment each and every well thought out combination of textures and tastes. Thank you
Yummy breakfast!. I've been to Ponycat twice now and have been lucky enough to encounter the same lovely waitress. Even after I sent my coffee back (for not being hot enough, but other wise excellent) she was still nice to me. The serves are a generous size and quick to come out.
Consistently good food and coffee. Ponycat used to be my local and even now that I live further away from Brunswick Street, I still go back regularly. I love sitting at the tables and checking out the collage of magazine clippings that adorn them (possibly not suitable for young children) and the crazy art on the walls. I mean, who doesn't like a mural of a cat riding a pony and brandishing a sword?! The coffee is consistently good - even their long blacks. The menu is written in chalk on the wall, but if you are sitting inside there is no way you cannot read it. I recommend the smashed avocado, with a side of haloumi, as well as the boston baked beans if you are looking for something a bit heartier. There are no bad choices and, like the coffee, the food is always consistent. I have never had any reason to complain about the food. The staff are always friendly, even when they are run off their feet. Can get busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but I have never had a problem getting a table. One downside is that it is sometimes warm inside, particularly in Summer. This shouldn't deter anybody from going to Ponycat though. It is well worth a visit.
We went to Ponycat for brekky today - friendly, prompt service & yummy food! Mushrooms & pesto was delicious and lovely home made boston beans! Coffee was good too .. We will be back!
Ponycat - New Farm, Brisbane. Ponycat is one of the trendiest places around the neighbourhood, and here we are talking about what might be the hotspot for trends in Brisbane. When I went here for a brunch with my good friend from high school it was bustling; how the two of us managed to get a table by walk-in was lucky. It has that look about it which seems the design is all-over the place, but then that look appears too well-planned to come across as that. It is lively and colourful in decoration and the service cannot be faulted.
While there is no table menu to be brought to the diners, in getting the right seating the set up gets around that aspect. There is a giant blackboard with all the menu items, and since I was facing it there was no hassle at all.
For starters, I got a double cappuccino. This was pretty good, a moderate blend in a mug and there was a decent amount of strength in it. It went well as a breakfast coffee.
My choice for breakfast was an inventive concoction; they had leek and sweet potato pancakes. By this, they meant that the aforementioned vegetables were actually cooked and combined into the batter creating a savoury pancake. You could choice to have either ham or salmon with them and I opted for the former.
The presentation on it was fantastic. It was tasty and fresh all in all; the ham was especially good being thickly cut almost like being straight off the bone. To compliment the entire dish and top it all off there was a house-made eggplant kasundi. Everything tasted as it should have been and this item in particular could see itself becoming a mainstay with more choices of items to put on top.
To finish off, I had a bit of a dessert albeit a liquid one. I got a malted caramel milkshake, which came in the classic metal container - I have had quite a liking of this presentation since childhood. It was all I could ask for in a milkshake, cold and flavoursome.
A bonus - for being in a trendy area - was that the prices are quite affordable. You could have a coffee and choice of breakfast without having to break the bank; and this is from having a substantially-sized meal and coffee. There is a lot of places in the area for breakfast, and they keep up a high mean of quality; Ponycat is no exception to that general trend.
Must do Breakfast. Delicious. Interesting menu with a twist, this menu is not your typical breakfast fare, it is so much better. The Leek and Sweet Potato Pancakes are simply fantastic, a flavour explosion with wonderful texture, topped with the most delicious baked ham. So good. Do your self a favour, Ponycat is a must do Breakfast venue.
Great burger & they were happy to make it bread free and into more of a salad (was on a no bread week!). Great service too.
Amazing breakfast dishes!. Visited this place on a day off recently and was amazed at the quality of food! Talk about generous, I ordered the Prosciutto Scramble and here I was expecting maybe a couple of decent size pieces, but not only they were decent sizes, it was as if there was a truck load of it on there! The quality of the food was also great and service was very attentive too. Will definitely go back and recommend this place to others.
Worth the wait. Having heard good reviews about this place I thought today to try it. Service was a bit of a let down where it took a long time to just take coffee orders. No water was provided despite the female waiter advising that she would get some. Further to this there was a wait of about 30-40mins for our food to come but it was worth the wait as it was very delicious with good flavours. Hopefully they can match their service to their food next time.
Yum!. Fantastic little cafe. It feels a bit hip and the staff are sexy little young'uns but they're friendly and serve well. These guys can certainly pull a good espresso and my cappuccino had a very impressive wet foam. Definitely the place to stop if you need a caffeine hit to takeaway. The food too is very decent, well priced and really satisfying.
Food & Coffee - both amazing. We went here by chance for brunch this morning, they were busy but we were seated quickly. Everything on the menu looks amazing and is slightly different from the usual suspects. I had the Boston Baked Beans - homestyle baked beans on sourdough with a sage & apricot sausage and an egg. It was magical, I want to go back! My partner had smashed avocado with preserved lemon and fetta, not a combo I've had before. Great coffee too. I really really enjoyed everything.
Love Ponycat! I always get the Mushrooms on toast with amazing pesto/fetta accompaniment. The coffee is good and service always comes with a smile. I have only good things to say about this place :)
The avocado smash was simply delicious. There was a great balance of flavours with the preserved lemon and Danish fetta. Nothing was overpowering and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The coffee and service was great. The only downside would be that the menu is on a chalkboard that is not as convenient as little books but definitely more environmentally friendly so it makes it all good. I would definitely be back at some point to try out all their other options - looks tasty!
Cute!!. Lovely little quaint place, nice food served simply but well. Good coffee, and some really delicious desserts. Lots of gluten free stuff as well.
Great for light lunch. A small but delightful menu. Leek and sweet potato pancakes ... mmmmm
Different but not try-hard. Service was attentive but relaxed.
If you're looking for a different, funky kind of brunch, this place is for you. The kitchen is on display behind the counter so if you wanted to, you could easily watch your food being made fresh. I must say, it is one of the cleanest kitchens I've ever seen, which made the thought of trying the food even more appealing (yes, I may be a bit OC). I ordered the sweet potato & leek pancakes which were amazing! The waitress was really friendly & attentive & the decor was unique & inviting. A definite winner!
Vibrant. Amazing variations to find here. Recommend the smoothies and bircher to anyone. Get in early on the weekend to avoid a queue
Great customer service, lovely food and a relaxed atmosphere.
Cool atmosphere & quick service. The Leg Ham Turkish was delicious! Will be back to try more.
Great coffee! Best in Brisbane. Food also very good I had the sweet potato pancakes with salmon. Will be back for sure!
First time at Ponycat for breakfast and loved it. Cruisy atmosphere, friendly and quick service and importantly great food :)
Awesome breakfast!. Ponycat has become one of my favourite breakfast places in Brisbane recently! The food is always good (I love the avocado smash and the leek pancakes), and the coffee is pretty good too. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good service, plus all-day breakfasts make this one of my regular spots. Wish they did poached eggs though.
Great Coffee, yum breakky. Great for a lazy breakky. Good coffee and original choice of breakky. No poached eggs, which I understant because everyone wants there eggs poached differently usually. keeps the operations fast and simple. Go ponycat!
Very tasty avocado smash!
Decent coffee, good service, great food. A little less waiting time would've been nice, though.
Charming. All the charm and heart of new farm village; peaceful escape to have a great coffee with family
Yum Yum Yum !!!. I had the Poached Pear with granola and yogurt. Oh my god this was the best mix of all my favourite food. Delicious coffee and a smiley waitress.
Definitely going back to try the pancakes next time as they looked great.
Great coffee and service. The magic of New Farm Village is that it is unique; lined with other unique cafes, bars and restaurants- Anise, Gerties, Majos and Dell'Ugo. Pony Cat sits amongst all this wonderful charm and provides warmth that is so lacking in most coffee establishment.
Despite being flat out and taking a little longer since it's one of the few cafes open on the public holiday, service was excellent, food was delicious and coffee was awesome! We will certainly be returning very soon. The chorizo and caramelised onion omelette hit the spot, and my hubbie loved the Boston baked beans with holumi. Well done, ponycat!
Not Just Your Average Breakfast Cafe. This place is a winner. The menu is more exciting than your average breakfast cafe, but still offers the classics. The coffee is AMAZING, the venue has character and the attractive staff members are certainly a sight for hung-over eyes. The only downside is the lack of aircon.
Great Lentil Burger. Lentil burger with Kasoundi. Excellent
Bello!. Finally somewhere that doesn't do poached eggs and smoked salmon! Loved to decor, staff friendly attentive and bubbly. Food has been stand out all three times. I find myself wanting to try something different each time. But the chorizo omelette with caramelised onions was amazing. I usually drink one cup of coffee with breakfast, but find myself compelled to drink another. Always a great tasting coffee and a perfect temperature! Will be back and highly recommended.
Friendly service. Great coffee and a suprisingly amazing muffin (strawberry, blueberry and pineapple) yummy
Run by a lovely young couple, I grab coffee here regularly and have never had a bad one - I have seen them custom-tune how they make it for people wanting a stronger one and fine tune the machine settings as the morning was warming up outside! They take coffee seriously :-)
They use really good quality ingredients in their meals - I've always come away satisfied :-)
Bit different, bit fun, nice local business
Food was simple but pretty tasty. Had the green mountain. Coffee was alright, a little too light for my taste. If I worked or lived nearby I'd come here. Otherwise, not really worth a detour to come to.
Simple and tasty food, friendly staff and always good prices. Breakfast and coffee for under $15! Gets busy after 9am on weekends so try to be there a touch before to get a spot. Great for a quick meal or catch up with a group.
I love places that offer breakfast most of the day. They also sometimes offer a range of milkshakes with more than the standards like caramel and banana etc. Great artwork on the walls and tables too. Nice place
Could take the crown for best breaky in Brisbane (all day). We had the Green Mountain and it was a taste sensation. Casual, chilled setting and food made with pride and love. We'll be back. Thanks chef.
Nice coffee, food and cozy service with reasonable price. I wish I can have this Cafe in my neighborhood. However I'll still hit this place often. :-)
This place is the best!! Friendly and super-helpful service (once the chef actually came out showed me a herb I had asked about), seriously delicious food with heaps of veg options, decent portions and really reasonable prices. Definitely recommend this place for a casual and cosy atmosphere and yummy stuff (-:
