The Gluten-Free Foodie

A cute-as-pie hole in the wall place that was super impressive.
Such a beautiful cafe and vibe from the staff who want you to be as comfortable as possible. While the menu is moderate in size it has some great options and I was so excited to see everything cold be gluten free. It is fantastic to go to brunch and not pay premium just because of your dietaries.
My mum had the baked eggs which were the perfect amount of spice and cooked perfectly. The gf bread on the side was great.
I had the special brekky pizza which was super yum and I’ve never tried anything like it before. Seems the place is still refining kinks and service took a little longer than expected but didn’t detract from the experience.
To top it all off they had fresh gf muffins coming out of the oven when we finished up so took some home for later. They were delicious and while slightly on the cake consistency side rather than donut dough were still up there with Nodo for quality! Loved it.

My Order:
- The Tasting Plate
- Brekky Rice Buddha Bowl
- Almond Milk Cappuccino
This is not your typical local café, this is a ‘gluten free’ local café which is absolutely worth your pennies. The ‘TASTING PLATE’ a.k.a their signature plate is full of nutritional value. And might I add, no BLOATING! And that ‘ALMOND MILK CAPPUCCINO’ was definitely made by someone who knows what they were doing. Great little find hidden in a corner street of Norman Park, Brisbane.
Thanks sis for bringing me here. I do not mind coming back and sharing this place!
Beautiful GF breakfast in a lovely quiet suburban location. Worth the drive. Shame we missed the donuts. We’ll just have to come back. From Perth. ;)
Five stars for quality of food / service - great little brunch spot.
My partner and I visited for brunch and as seen in the pictures, we ordered coffees and their signature baked eggs. Coffees were great and the baked eggs were nice and hearty - perfect for winter.
Will definitely be back again for sure.

Great neighborhood coffee and brunch stop in the Norman Park area. Extensive coffee menu with interesting blends available. Great Gluten Free menu. I tried 3 dishes in one visit as it all looked too delicious to resist. The baked eggs were beautiful. The owners Adam and Rejoice finish off the experience by being accommodating, efficient and friendly. Will definitely recommend to my friends.
I've been here a bunch of times for my pre-work coffee. Great service and I love the coffee. It's nice to have something consistently of a decent standard. I am yet to try the food offering as I think it's quite limited given the space. Will continue guzzling coffees from here.
A nice coffee in a nice outdoor area on a nice corner cafe on a nice Sunday morning. Dovetail serve up delightful, fragrant Uncle Joe coffee which has a slew of awards under its belt. I've read elsewhere (in older reviews of Uncle Joe's cafe which has since closed) that this coffee is suited to quite a low extraction temperature. The coffee I had today was probably a touch cooler than average. This is not a criticism by any stretch, but if you're the kind of person who likes a scorching hot coffee you might need to speak up. I'll be back to try more!
My favourite place in Brisbane for a coffee and the owners are lovely. Their bread is heavenly. Also WTF Zomato this little place is in Norman Park not Hawthorne you noobs.
Went there for a coffee today and the standard was extremely high, the soy was one of the very few soy coffees I've had that wasn't curdled. The service was friendly and the barista definitely knew what he was doing! I would definitely return
Definitely in the top 3 best coffees in Brisbane. Absolute attention to detail, relaxed staff, and simple food done well. The vintage crockery is a nice touch and the outdoor seating is relaxing. While there aren't many seats you rarely have to wait. While there's always a specials board, a seasonal menu wouldn't go astray.
Nice little cafe. Been here a bunch as I live nearby, nice coffee and food on the occasions I've eaten there. Service is generally really good
Dovetail on Overend was on my hit list and when I finally went I was kicking myself that it took me so long to go there! Boasting a fresh, interesting menu great coffee and free gluten free options I was excited to say the least. Food. The all day breakfast and lunch menu was simple but made for a difficult choice! We decided for the Caponata Sicilian $10.90 (Delicious Sicilian dish with grilled eggplant, capsicum & caramelised onion on toasted bread with witches chase goats cheese and balsamic glaze). I made use of the free gluten free options and the bread was very tasty and light for GF.
Baked Eggs. Delicious Chilli con carne, feta and eggs with sourdough
Best coffee ever!. Amazing coffee, great service and excellent prices. Very impressed :) I highly recommend this place to any food and coffee lovers!
Lovely!. This place is great for brunch. The staff are so lovely and the food is great!
Adam you are a genius!. This place is da bomb. I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee here and it is good to see someone who is so knowledgeable and passionate about beans and the brewing process doing well. Situated in the back blocks of Norman Park, this unassuming little cafe has plenty of parking in the side streets and plentiful seating outside. We really only came for the coffee, which was sensational. I had a single origin Uncle Joe's cappuccino with perfectly textured milk, silky froth and a delicate, lingering aftertaste. The banana bread was nice too. I am a big fan, my man.
I had a perfect short long black made with the purple haze blend and a piece of banana bread, both great. A cute little cafe with outdoor seating and good service
Dovetail on Overend - Morningside, Brisbane. This is a big deal. Dovetail on Overend was opened by a frequent reviewer on the website Beanhunter, who has done over 100 reviews - therefore, it would be assumed that he should know what he is doing. Not only with the coffee, but also setting out the detail for the place the good news is that he certainly does. There is more to making good coffee than being competent at the machine.
It is a small place, basically the back room of a small office - hence the name of dovetail. Many great places that I have been to for a coffee are small in space - sometimes as much as a car or cart; what matters is how well utilised the space is. Adam, the owner-operator-barista-reviewer, has utilised the space and is carving his own look into the place. After so much sampling, he has settled on using blends from Uncle Joe's plus the milk comes from there as well. Turning the place outback into a great kitchen for coffee, nothing was overlooked to having it run efficiently and look sleek.
Where the diners are concerned, much effort was made as well. Each table number is spelled out with Scrabble tiles, and it has chosen the suburb to give it some life and convenience. There is even the street-facing bench as a table that has been becoming apparent in the Spring Hill area.
My dining buddy had heard of this place, and with the credibility behind the operation, it was off to here. The cappuccino I ordered is much like in the Italian vein, and not the Australian with chocolate powder on top. It was nothing short of amazing, a kind of coffee you forget exists after some time; you would need to come back to reiterate it. The strength was certainly there; it had me jittery straight afterwards (code for: done your job). It was also not a bitter taste either, a great combination when they manage to do it.
In the meantime since opening, they have managed a tiny menu of edibles. To go with the coffee, I got a salted caramel tart and my dining buddy got a salted caramel brownie. These were also fantastic; this is a combination that is not often gotten, top notch coffee and a top notch sweet combined. The tart oozed the caramel out, which was sticky and delicious, and the brownie was warm and not like any other brownie I have tried; almost cakey in some ways.
The south side is not bereft, per se, of coffee options but it does not get the high concentration of great places that more inner-north is used to. It all changes now, with this gem hiding gregariously waiting to be found.
Dovetail on Overend in Norman Park has been created with the experience from reviewing over 170 coffee shops. Bean Hunter champion Adam Thomson and his wife Rejoice have opened their own cafe for the Norman Park locals to enjoy. Does this mean the hunter turns the hunted? You may see some familiar faces at the Overend Street cafe. Adam has assembled an experienced team including Mark bringing his famous Uncle Joe’s coffee and Uncle Joe’s milk. The cafe dovetails in with an office, in what looks like an old corner store...
🌿 service - 5/5
🌿 coffee - 4/5
🌿 price - standard
My friend and I went to Dovetail for a little study date last week. The service was lovely and very welcoming.
The coffee was lovely. A bit weak and bitter, but overall good.
Fantastic Avo on Toast, and the Iced coffee is sweetened with locally sourced honey as a bonus - will definitely be back! Delicious :)
Absolutely gorgeous little slice of heaven! Amazing people and beautiful food. So friendly and the most amazing gluten free freshly baked donuts I died and went to heaven. Will absolutely be going back!
Dovetail is my fav cafe in Brisbane - I’ve probably taken everyone I know here. As a fairly new coeliac it’s really nice to go somewhere I can trust the food will be safe for me, even though they also have non-gf breads available. Owner Adam is a coeliac too, and also has a really welcoming energy that makes you feel good. 😊 definitely recommend to everyone, but especially other coeliacs and gluten intolerant people.
Lovely little place situated in a residential neighbourhood. Only had chance to try their coffee and doughnuts (as it was national doughnut day) and boy I'm an instant fan. We got an assortment of them and my favorite was the passionfruit/raspberry one💯. Its been a few days and I still can't get over how good it was. The wife has been there a few times and have tried their meals and said it was delicious.
Amazing coffee, brilliant food and all of the staff which served us were caring and lovely to talk too. There are ample gluten-free options and as of now it does not come at an extra cost, which is a bonus. The meal which I ate was balanced with flavors. The long black coffee which I got was great as the beans used were of high quality.
Will be going back very soon and I recommend you go too!
this cafe is nicely situated in the corner street. my friend and i went here on a weekday, it was quiet and relaxing. nice place to chill out with friends combined with good food and drinks. we enjoyed and loved the mocha and chocolate drinks and since it is a specialty coffee shop, we will definitely come back to try their coffee on our next visit, hopefully on a weekend to have their cakes and pastries as well.
Very nice little cafe in Norman Park. We had coffee, a Rueben and the Caponata. The coffee is brilliant and the food was a also very nice, but the serving size is a little small. Very friendly service by a passionate owner. Very much looking forward to coming back here again soon.
