Review Place Of Stones - Brisbane

John Scolaro
Place of stones is a small pizza joint tucked away in Taringa. It felt very cosy, and the pizza was divine. I had an excellent night, and now I'm keen to sample the breakfast goods!

Kim treats the guests like family and does an amazing job running the place. The food and coffee is out of this world AMAZING, hence why we come back every weekend. Not only that but service always comes with a smile. A must try is the garlic mushroom avo on breakfast menu, it'll blow you away.

Impromptu breakfast stop. The Spanish, and Asian eggs were both superb. Great coffee. It may not be on the main drag (one of the attractions for me) but it's well worth the diversion. Lovely suburban eating. Past experience tells us the dinners are excellent too!

Love their food. One of the best breakfasts I have had. Their sourdough is so soft and their Welsh Rarebit is so cheesy and delightful. Highly recommend this place. The ambience is just an icing on the cake.
Michael Garrett
Awesome breakfast place and the evening menu looks worth a revisit. Great staff / service.
Hayley Larter
A really nice experience. The wait staff were lovely, only downside was that they did not have their own alcohol. But amazing food, amazing atmosphere

So nice to be able to dine in a place like this during covid. Food was excellent and staff are super friendly and really make it a nice feel. And it's even BYO! Will come back asap.

Very lucky to have this gem in the neighbourhood. Super friendly staff, delicious breakfasts and the most incredible pizzas and pastas. We love it! Slowly working our way through their delicious pizza menu.

Arrived this cafe on Sunday too early than its opening trading hour so waited in the car for a while before approaching its front door. In fact, I was not alone because there was another group of people waiting there as well.
I took a seat near the counter and placed the order of OMEGA 3 and a flat white. Although there was no fancy latte art coming with the coffee, it did me well with strong level of caffeine. The OMEGA 3 was the hero. Tinned sardine topped with pan-fried capers, tomatoes and herbs with sourdough. I had similar dish in the New Farm and this one impressed me to the same extent! YUMMY👍
Rob
Average, mediocre, basic, alright, edible. I'm so indifferent about this place. Their breakfast offerings are probably a bit better than dinner. I only really go because of its location.

Just around the corner from us and so highly rated - finally tried PoS. Got the (really) big breakky and it was awesome, husband got the bennie and rated it too. Coffee wasn't awesome, staff were nice, decor is so cute. Tea pots are served wearing knitted cosies with mismatched cups, and there's a kitchy old TV and bookshelf in the corner; it's like being in someone's old pool room. Interesting to see what the dinners are like!

Great location. Great, prompt customer service with very reasonable serving sizes for a Sunday morning breakfast. Would I return? Definitely

Just had the avocado and feta breakfast with a side of mushrooms, was so delish! Only negative is I couldn't fit it in my mouth because of the generous amount of topping they give you!. Mushroom was a little salty but still good. Def will come back

Some of the best pizza and pasta in Brisbane! Had the pepperoni pizza and chorizo gnocchi - pizza was crisp and well-sized, and the gnocchi just perfect. Will definitely be coming back!

We have been going to Place of Stones for brekkie for years, and we've never had a bad poached egg yet!

The food is great, but it's the relaxed atmosphere and the owners that make Place of Stones great.

My favourite dish is poached eggs on toast with bacon and bubble and squeak. Delicious!

I love this place...it has a great atmosphere and the food is authentic too. It's the perfect restaurant to go to when it's cold and rainy, as you're tucked away in a home-style room.

Great breakfast this morning. Place of Stones has a definite family feel with incredible food on offer. This is my first breakfast here and I had the "Welsh Rarebit". The chili jam/relish was the winner of the dish - highly recommend.
Food was served quickly.
-JP-

Came here for breakfast with my fiancée and had the Eggs Benedict (Salmon) and the Haloumi & Tomato which were super tasty. Service was fast and friendly.

Had a really delicious pizza and pasta here. Really loved the flavours in the dishes we ordered. Will definitely be returning to make this a regular local haunt.

Totally disappointed. We chose the pepperoni pizza for the anchovies and it was forgotten. that's ok.... but they still wanted to charge us for them. no compensation, just said most people don't even want anchovies!!!
hello, we did!!!!!!
never will go back.....bad attitude towards customers!!!

Disappointed. On Saturday night after not finding parking at Rosalie decided to go to Stones in Taringa. Arrived there at 8:15pm only to be told their kitchen was closed.
Kristen
A little disappointed :(. Place of Stones is usually great but I was a little underwhelmed on this occasion. The gnocchi had a weird texture and seemed overcooked and the portion was pretty tiny for $22. I wish I'd had a pizza instead! The service was great as usual though!

Great family spot. Our family loves coming here. Very relaxed atmosphere, good service, and kids are very welcome.

Wherever you live in Brisbane, get yourself to this restaurant! Tonight we came, inside was busy so we sat outside and were offered blankets AND pillows. Amazing service, homely full bodied food and a great local chilled vibe.

Place of stones is the place to go!. This gem of a restaurant offers top quality in everything they do! Food, coffee and service!

Let's start with the dinner menu, consisting of pizzas, pasta, salads and a range of entrees. Everything is made fresh and with the most tasty ingredients. I tried the crispy squid, and shared a large Greek lamb pizza and pescatory pasta. One word, delicious! I ended the night with a coffee (merlo!) and a sticky date dessert. Again, delicious!

I liked dinner so much I went back for breakfast the following weekend. The big breakfast lived up to its name, I left full and very very satisfied. This is a must do breakfast place for everybody!

Lastly, the service. This place has great staff, meeting everyone with a smile and so polite when taking orders. They definitely make the place even more welcoming than it already is.

I'm very glad I have found this place! Will be back again and again and again.

Amazing breakfast !! The vibe is young and indie

Delicious but pricey!. Went here for breakfast and was really impressed! Food was delicious and came out in good time... coffee was horrendous though.

Only complaint would be that they don't hesitate in charging a ridiculous amount for extras... i.e. I ordered my brekky with no eggs and added haloumi, my friend ordered the opposite (added eggs and asked for no haloumi). They charged something like $4/$5 per change!! In hindsight we could've just swapped it over but didn't think of that at the time...

Anyway, very tasty and good service. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Super Tasty Pizza!. Order a few takeaway pizzas from this place the other night. They were super tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. We had the Greek Lamb pizza, Mumbai indian pizza and the gourmet supreme.

We've been here a few times and the good has always been full of flavor. Recipes that respect the true Italian heritage while maintaining conservative pricing. We've been to far more Italian expensive restaurants that have cost more and let us down considerably. So it's great we have local homely place that serves great meals from breakfast to dinner at affordable prices and tastes fantastic!

Yummy Breakfast. I've been here for breakfast a couple of times and really enjoyed it! Although the big breakfast was a bit expensive it was massive and kept me going all day! The tomato relish was to die for! Deliciousness!
Miss Emma
Ordered a drink and it came with a mouldy piece of pineapple. Cups provided for water had lipstick stains.
Watched would be customers walk out a few times.
Will not be returning here again.

Delightful surprise in the suburbs. My fiance and I had always wanted to try this restaurant when she lived in Taringa. Having finally dined there, I would recommend this restaurant.

It has an unpretentious feel; its interior and decor is nothing fancy but it doesn't need to be when its product (that is, the food), sells itself.

The menu should cater for all tastes with a wide selection of pizzas and pastas. There were also gluten free options for my fiance. The meal portions are just about the perfect size and great value in terms of price.

I ordered the blue cheese and chicken on gnocchi. A friend ordered the classic 'Whores Pasta', the puttanesca, which did not disappoint. Service was reasonable.
Chantelle Hiley
The most delicious pizza you will ever eat.

Finally a restaurant within 50k's of Toowong that actually makes amazing pasta dishes. Place of Stones was a total surprise pack on this particular Friday night where me and the hug and kisses had nothing planned.

We walked in and were greeted by staff that truly made us feel welcome. We ordered the BBQ Ribs for an entree. These ribs were amazing and would truly be better than what is offered at some of Brisbane's best rib houses. Followed by a Blue Cheese Gnocchi and carbonara cooked to perfection, both had flavours that put a smile on our face from ear to ear.

Thanks for looking after us. We'll be back.
Allan
Great. Good service and delicious food - both dinner and breakfast.
Linda
Delicous Pizza. I really love this place. It has the best pizza I have had in Brisbane. There is a great selection of menu options other than pizza. I really like the trio of dips-very fresh and yummy. Staff were prompt and friendly.

Average suburban food.. When I leave a restaurant, I like to think I've eaten good food, well prepared and of good value, especially at the mid range of price such as place of stones. The atmosphere promises plenty, the service brings down the average, and the food, well, disappoints. Do they have a chef on staff? I'm tipping not, probably a moderately good cook at best.
Pizza was disappointing, tasteless and boring. Pasta was so salty, I bet the 'chef' did not bother to taste the dish during it's production.
Bad experience, sadly, as I'm quite local and was hoping for a new favourite close to home.
There are better local choices. I'm unlikely to come back.
Jess
Food is FANTASTIC (breakfast is my favourite), coffee is AMAZING and service is OUTSTANDING! Thankyou Place of Stones! Xo

Delicious Dinner. We went for dinner finally! We have lived A 30 second walk away for 2 years and wish we had come sooner. Our drinks were huge, I had the lychee muddle which was such a great unique beverage! We just wanted a quick dinner so just got some herb garlic turkish bread to start...delicious. I got the lamb cutlets from the special menu. The flavours where unique extrordinarily tasty and a good size serve...the lamb was on a vegetable stack which was Also bursting with great flavours. My partner went for the pescatore linguini and as soon as he landed was raving about the fresh aromas coming from his plate. He loved the flavours likening them to an authentic pasta you would eat in Italy. His only comment was he would have like the serve to be a tad larger. The service was great from both waiter and waitress who attended to our table. Very friendly. We paid $66 in total for our dinner with bread and beverages. Breakfast always looks busy and atmospheric, we would love to try that too in the next couple of months before we move away from the area.

Went for breakfast yummy eggs benny and really good range for breakfast Nicely priced at between 15 to $20 Ill be back
Reuben
The food is okay, but when we held a function there with "all you can eat" they bought out maybe 4 pizzas per 6 people and refused to honour the agreement. Wouldn't go back.
Daniel
Do not take large groups here. Had 30 people and ordered the banquest. Even with notice insufficient food given.
More Spice
Don't do the banquet. Just order off the menu and share. We waited for "heaps of food" that we were promised... I don't consider 4 pizzas, 4 pastas, both only had 2 types, 9 pieces of garlic bread and 2 pizza dips to be sufficient for 13 adults. At $23 a head you are better off ordering off the menu and sharing. Also, it doesn't state it in the site nor do they state it when you book and mention you will have students with you, that they don't do student discounts on a Saturday for their "banquet". Also, a friend wanted more food, but he was told to eat the leftovers on people's plates before they would send out another plate. Not a good first time at place of stones. Like everyone else here I do agree their food is nice... Just sparse in a banquet
Dave
Great Food. Good food good atmosphere, service was good size and flavour just right

Diana. Tried Place of Stones for b/f this morning. Sat outside in the sun with the partner & pooch due to a distinct nip in the air! Coffee was a bit of a let down considering it was Merlo, however will order it stronger next time as we will be back the food was great. I was dying to sample the bubble & squeak & was not disapointed also had the eggs which were super rich. The partner had the mince & said it was tasty too. Generous serves & good service although we did have to wait a little longer than usual
Rochelle
Horrible customer service, one older lady in particular! Will never go back! They booked out the seating of about 30 seats (no reserved indication), wasny greeted at door so we took a seat, lady comes up and simply says "were booked" very rudly! As we were walking out realized they had take away. Normally due to the lack of even politeness wouldn't have, but seeing we were so hungry we grabbed some take away. Now both wishing we never did! I ordered a pasta carbonara, paid $19. Would have been fine if the portion size was a little large or even had any onion, cheese or mushroom. It consided of pasta, bacon and a very weak liquid sauce. Would have recieved better service and pasta from pizza hut and for a much better price! I'm not one to complain, but this was shocking!

Wonderful way to spend Mother's Day!. My family and I spent mother's day lunch at Place of Stones - and what a fantastic decision that was! Free glass of wine for all the adults on the table (don't mind if I do, even if it's lunch time!) and a different menu for the day. We got there early, around noon and it seemed everyone else had the same idea, so there was a lot of u packed in there, but that did not deter from the wonderful service and friendly smiles from the staff. Absolutely divine food! I sampled a little bit of everything on our table - the pork belly was divine! Will be going back for some more delicious food in the coming weeks. Desperate to try the greek lamb pizza on the dinner menu!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Poor Service. This restaurant has very poor service and little respect for customers. Pizza was cold and soggy when it eventually arrived. Restaurant collected money from living social customers and are not dedicated to providing products described in the voucher. Will not be back....

A great hidden gem in taringa suburbia. Place of stones has a fun atmosphere with quality food. Went in for their lunch menu. I was sad to see the pizza menu was only for dinner, however I ordered a mushroom, pumpkin and other yummy things tart which was sensational. Definately planing on going back :)
Orange Blossom Special
Heavy to Light Meals - unfortunately the menu doesn't tell you that!. Place of Stones has an interesting lunch menu with a lot of variety. Definitely something for everybody. It's just unfortunate that they don't specify or have a "light fares" section because if you order the wrong thing, you may walk away very hungry!

It was a lazy Sunday (April 1) when my partner and I headed to Place of Stones with voucher in hand. I love the location of this restaurant as it's on a residential street, nestled in with the other bungalow-style houses. We saw instantly where it was because of some patio tables and chairs complete with umbrellas, sitting out on the sidewalk. Even though it was a beautiful day, we went inside to sit which was very airy as they kept their large windows open. (To get inside the restaurant, there are a couple of steps so this is not a wheelchair accessible venue, unless you sit outside.)

Our waiter brought us our menus and was nice with an easy going nature as he explained the menu to us. We found that Place of Stones had quite an extensive drinks menu so we asked our waiter to give us a few minutes. When he returned he answered all of our questions and was able to make some slight changes to the drinks we ordered. My partner had a Muddled lemon/lime tonic ($6) and I had an Iced Coffee ($6). Although we had a longer than usual wait before getting our drinks, they were well made and very refreshing when they arrived. The lemon and lime was made with real fruit and there was a lot in it. As for my iced coffee, I had asked for it with no sweetness to it including no ice cream, so it was more like an iced latte. It was delicious! No shortage of the whole milk they used to mix in!

I was under the impression that Place of Stones is more of a breakfast place as the plates of the people around us indicated. Our voucher was for lunch so I ordered the Stones Burger (100% beef) ($18) and my partner ordered the Corn Pancake with crab and rockets ($18).

While we were enjoying the atmosphere, we relaxed to the faint music of crooning Rod Stewart and Michael Bublé playing in the background. (We also enjoyed the song each from CCR and Neil Young!!)

None of the meals on the menu came with any sides which made it all the more disappointing when my partner's corn pancake showed up. That's exactly what it was: One, as in singular, pancake! Yes, there was lots of crab on it which had wonderful flavour and there was a generous portion of rockets and avocado, but that was it! I knew my partner was going to be hungry afterwards and at $18 for this dish, we both decided that this was extremely bad value!

My hamburger, on the other hand, was quite large. A huge, homemade pattie barbequed to juicy perfection and topped with heaps of lettuce, tomato and avocado all served on Turkish bread. Magnificent - and messy! Not easy to eat unless you have a large mouth!

As per our voucher, we were entitled to another drink so I had the same iced coffee designed to my liking and my partner tried the Banana Smoothie ($6). Made with fresh banana and ice cream, it was a nice, and filling, end to a very small meal.

I would recommend this restaurant as there is no doubt that Place of Stones uses high quality and fresh ingredients! The staff are also friendly, professional and very accommodating, it was just a bit of a letdown that one of the meals was so light. It makes for tricky ordering (or deciding if you should eat before dining at this spot). We will be coming back again, but will definitely read the menu very carefully for any hints as to the actual size of a main.

Happy with the experience. QUICK POINTS
PIZZA = 8
PASTA = 7
SERVICE = 7
STARS/5 = 3.75

Well we did arrive kind of late for our friend's birthday dinner, and were thrown into the ordering phase straight away.

I was really eager to try their Mussels, which now feature only on their special board. Sadly they had sold out the day before.

As for food we stuck to pizza. We decided to go for 2 x smalls and share ($17-18 each)Our choices were Rainforest - (Med Veg + Pumpkin + Raita) drizzel AND their Seafood Pizza. Both were excellent quality, with great HM bases and sauces.

I like a bit of heat on the side, so got some of the house hot sauce. I withhold the name, but EXCELLENT!

Pasta & Dessert???
The pasta looked very nice. I didn't try any but we were with a group of 16 and half went pasta - no complaints.
Dessertwise - had the bite-size lemon poppy muffin only $3 good for a quick after dinner sweet. For the dessert lovers and chocoholics go for the mudcake, which oozed chocolaty goodness!

Friendly, patient & suggestive service - with a classic small business approach. Happy to dine @ place of stones again.
3.75*Stars

Sam

I'm lucky enough to live up the road from this place & I absolutely love it! Pizza, pasta desserts; they are all delicious! Breakfast is tasty & pretty cheap. Have been here many a times & never been disappointed!

I love this place for breakfast and dinner. This is my first choice for Sunday breakfast and Thursday dinners .... great atmosphere, great food and friendly welcoming staff who look after you as if you were family. I recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for something a bit special.

Place of Stones is home to our weekends - relaxing on a Friday night over one of Rob's 'specials' and Sunday mornings enjoying the corn pancakes, great coffee and reading a paper. Not only does Stones consistently serve great food and is value for money - the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I can recommend to everyone.

Chris Jacques. My wife and I have visited stones in my opinion, not nearly enough! I didn't want my meal to end as is the case each time we eat here. The menu gives plenty of variety, the prices are fantastic, the welcoming feel of the restaurant and the smiling faces of the staff will keep you coming back whilst owner and head chef Rob devises new and delicious meals which leaves you with an eager anticipation of what will be on the specials board next week. I'm going back for the duck raggu this week.

I have been to place of stones numerous times with my girlfriend and I would have to say with no doubt the head chef Rob has produced beautiful meals time and time again, everyone must try the frappes and the coffees made by Kim , the best barista and waiter I have ever had, a 10/10 for me and I hope you all can share the excitement I have for this great new little restaurant , so go on ind give it a go you won't be disappointed .

Absolutely delicious piscatore. Mouth watering flavours and a hit of chili sweetens the soul. The hospitality was expectional! See you again for Valentines Day.

Just lovely!. Been for breakfast and dinner - fantastic food, friendly staff and nice quiet atmosphere.
Greek Lamb pizza was amazing!
Highly recommend this place for a nice quiet dinner or brekky!
Dog water bowl out the front for weekend breakfast- if you wanted to bring along a pooch!

One of my new favourite Brisbane Restaurants / Cafe's. Me and my girlfriend have been to Place of Stones twice now, once for Breakfast on the weekend and the other time for Dinner during the week. We absolutely love this place tucked away in Taringa because it's only a short walk from her house. The staff we have had on both occasions were very welcoming, friendly and polite. The breakfast we had was delicious and everything tasted fresh and exactly as it should, im not surprised they are really popular for breakfasts. The dinner we had there last night was great, my girlfriend had the pizza and I had the pan roasted chicken with aspargus and leek that was on special, both of them tasted great and the serving size was good too. We both tried a dessert each: Apple & Rhubarb pie, and Sticky Date Pudding - both were really nice! We were happy that the prices weren't too high too. Quality of food was a 10/10 for us. Will be back again soon.

Mordern and fresh. Arriving home feeling satisfied and full, my dining experience at Place of Stones was definitely a winner.

A group of 9 dined tonight and all were happy. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was delicious and came out quickly. I would highly recommend the Mexican pizza and the New Orleans.

The only criticism is that the restaurant closes so early! The kitchen closed on a Wednesday night at 8PM! That is Brisbane for you! So be sure to arrive before then!

But please, do give these guys a try. I suspect you will be pleased with your decision to dine there!

Not quite 100%. Friendly staff and great coffe unfortunately the food doesnt always match. Very salty food. Also expensive for desserts, theyre almost as much as a main course :/
Ruthb
Great breakfast at a good price. Would highly recommend.

Great pizza and friendly service. The calamari entree is divine. Perfectly cooked and crispy and accompanied by a really good garlic aoli. Pizzas were great too and we requested the homemade chilli sauce which had a great burn to it and really added the oomph factor to the pizza. Pizza bases one of the best I have had.
Service was very friendly and relaxed, all in all a nice little find and we will be back!
Craig
Awesome food, great coffee, comfortable and friendly feel to the place. The owners, Zoe and Kim have got the combination right

Absolutely fantastic, food and service were 5 star and with very generous portions and a great price I happily recommend!
