Review Men Ya Go - Brisbane

Mika Shiihara
There were many people who were Ramen lover sitting on long chair to eat. Eventhough, Ramen's soup taste was a bit strong, but I like sliced pork, black seaweed and boiled egg etc, those are the same as Japanese Ramen style. Also I enjoyed Gyoza! It was so delicious!

Small ramen shop but the taste is very good, just like eating in Japan, the price is not expensive, there are many menus to choose from such as ramen, various of rice bowls, beverages. 😋😋😋

Amazing Ramen! Had the garlic Shoyu, all the toppings are already included and are nicely seasoned. Broth very yummy, perfect amount of noodles. Perfect for a rainy day treat. 😌

Quick lunch - this is a very busy place and a seat is hard to get around lunchtime. The dishes very tasty and plenty - also a reasonably price.

This ramen place reminds me of the ones, I visted in Japan. Polite staff and fast service. Ramen was tasty and authentic , great prices too.

I dined in for lunch around 12pm today and ordered no.7 Shio. The first photo is what I was served with. There were 2 slices of pork, almost 80-90% is fat, I flipped over both slices and looked for what I can eat, really nothing much. I thought for a bit and went to the counter and spoke to the waitress and told her this. She had a look at the meat and asked if I wanted to swap, I said yes. The second photo was the replacement. The meat were cold. This was not a good experience. If I didn't raise this with them, I would have just paid $14 for a bowl of soup and noodle literally. I don't think they should have served 80-90% fat to their customers. It was waste of time during my lunch break. I had lunch in this restaurant around 2018, the food was nice and nothing like this. It was a bad experience and I felt they focused too much on the presentation of the food not the quality.

Small place in the city. Made great use of the pathway seating without blocking anything. Food was great, price was maybe mid range. Staff were friendly but you gotta listen well for when your order is called because it gets pretty noisy and the staff isn't super loud. If you're a fan of ramen or Japanese food I'd give this place a go.

For lunch had the karaage curry and chicken katsu curry! Omg Absolutely delicious.

One of the best Ramen in town! The broth leaves a satisfying sticky sensation on your lips and a warming feeling in your belly, the universal sign of a talented broth-smith. The burnt garlic ramen is amazing and should be what other ramens go to for representationđŸ‘ŒđŸŒ

Their ramen is decent. I wish they added an option to add other extra such as corn instead of buying the actual dish that has the extra.

Another ramen spot to tick off the list, Men Ya Go was a long time coming. Tucked away in a little alleyway, the restaurant is lively and bustling at lunch time.

I ordered #1, the Shoyu Tonkotsu. What a flavourful and tasty bowl, the broth sings! Thick and rich, I absolutely loved it. The bowl of ramen was interesting and unique, the touches of toasted sesame seeds, nori and the thick pieces of pork were delicious.

I wouldn’t say this was the best ramen in Brisbane, but I would definitely come back. Enjoy 😊

Very authentic ramen here, pretty reasonable prices too. Sometimes it’s hard to get a table here at lunch so try to come a little early if you’re with friends. The spicy tonkotsu is my favourite!

Best ramen in Brisbane after tasking all the ramen from southbank, west end and Brisbane. Have been back many times. Free extra noodles, fast service, excellent flavour and the right amount of salt. Cute little setting too

One of the better places of ramen around Brisbane. I had the spicy shoyu tonkotsu and the umami flavour was great. I wish you could adjust the amount of lard here though, my throat was croaking like no tomorrow.

This place serves the best ramen I've eaten outside Japan. Even in Japan this place would be considered a top ramen spot. The chefs are Japanese (I checked). The tonkotsu soup is absolutely perfect. Real tonkotsu soup is difficult and time-consuming to make, so they should feel proud. The miso ramen is very good too! Nice peppery taste. The soup is so good I drink it all even after finishing the noodles. The noodles are just right. Not too soft. Real ramen noodles. The soft-boiled half egg and piece of thin pork included in the dish are perfectly done, and there are some nice fresh veges (bean sprouts, etc). They serve you quickly too, and there always seems to be just enough seating to get a table for 2. Nice place to sit too. Feels like you're in a bustling city but without the noise. Highly recommended. And cheap! $13 or so for the best ramen I've had outside Japan and close to the best I've had in Japan. They offer extra noodles (double serving) for free but I don't recommend taking the extra noodles unless you're really starving and normally eat a lot. Otherwise you'll be very full. It's a lot of noodles to eat.

Without a doubt, one of the biggest things I've missed since my holiday in Japan a few months ago is without a doubt the food. With the cold winter having firmly set in, I am definitely craving a bowl of hot soupy ramen. Of course from my crash course in Japanese, I would have done my research in asking my sensei where to find the best ramen in Brisbane. Expecting her to say Taros, I was super surprised when she actually said it was Men Ya Go. So of course, I grabbed my two buddies and made the trek to Elizabeth Street for some investigation.

The place is quite hidden. Garlic shoyu tonkotsu immediately got my attention when I read the menu. So I tried that and it tasted similar to what I expected. The broth was rich and thick. It was a bit oily perhaps because of the garlic but the oil enriched the flavour of the broth. It was good but it was too salty for me. Less saltiness would make this dish awesome. Staff was nice and helpful. If you are a student, dont forget to bring along your student card. They offer 10% off for students.

Rate : 3.5*
They offer free ramen refill wohoođŸ€Ÿ i love love love ramen, i really wanna try all the ramen restaurants in Birsbane😌
Locating in CBD, it’s very convenient to go there. I came at noon, not so crowded and service was quick. The broth is actually very nice, only two slide of meat but that’s enough for me (i was not very hungry at that moment). It’s not very impressed ramen shop but i
Would definitely come again for a quick meal !! 💕

The other day I went to the Apple store and had a bad experience... walking back to work I was like “ garlic noodle soup with extra noodles will help me out” and yes it did. LOVE this place. A work friend showed me this hidden gem...
Canuck In Oz
Reasonably good and cheap Japanese(?) food. Good fresh gyozas with a nice sauce. The guao bao was tasty with a mild flavour and enjoyed by Mrs Canuck.

Always on the hunt for an awesome ramen so we thought we’d give this place a try! We ordered the salt and the spicy tonkotsu. Overall the soup was nice, but not as tasty as other places I’ve tried. The staff are lovely and place is clean and spacious. Overall, will satisfy a ramen craving but there are more flavoursome ramen places out there.

Ordered the spicy chicken mince ramen soup for $15. I enjoyed it and this place is one of my favourite ramen places in Brisbane. The place is clean, friendly staff and you don’t usually have to wait too long. I usually go for one of the 3 spicy soups or the garlic and I haven’t been disappointed. I do agree with the other posts that the broth probably isn’t as flavour full as taros but it’s tasty. You can also eat here alone which I feel in taros in the city is a bit intimidating.
High Tea Queen
Ordered this ramen shown in the picture, it tasted average to good like most ramen restaurants in Australia.

The place is clean and the staff are friendly.

Will I go back: yes if I feel like a quick hearty soup noodle meal
Lifelovetravelfood
A great little spot, not quite as busy as the other CBD ramen spots which is nice if you want to sit down and enjoy it. Probably not as much flavour in the broth as other ramen’s I’ve had and the meat portion isn’t as generous but it’s still delicious and the free noodles (which you do need to fill you up at this spot) are a good addition. Yum, I will return.

I actually am surprised that this shop's current rating is at 3.5 at the time of this review.

We tried Men Ya Go simply because it seemed pretty busy and the previous 'not-hakataya' experience we had wasn't bad at all (Taro's); we were not at all disappointed. To be honest, this is what we'd consider our favourite ramen around the CBD as it strikes a great value for money.

The food itself is quite tasty, it has a broth that's rich (or a bit less strong, depends on your order) but it isn't overly fatty like Hakataya can be; it also doesn't feel relatively weak and unfilling like Taro's, it has a good mix; for us though the noodles is what made it much nicer, I'm surprised that someone found them more processed. They're thinner and lighter than other noodles we've found and they're actually our favourite part of the meal. It also helps that it comes with a complimentary half-boiled egg (Although not as good as Taro's); the pork is actually very tender and has a good taste.

I think an easy way to describe Men Ya Go is like a mix of that great broth from Taro's with the better pork from Hakataya and adding their own softer noodles. It is a little bit pricier than Hakataya but not quite reaching Taro's. Most importantly, at least for the few times we've attended, this shop has also been the most generous with their broth; I understand 'broth' is everything, but both Taro and Hakataya seem to go pretty cheap in the amount they offer you, Men Ya Go hasn't done that to us, and we're not only talking about their 'lighter' broth options.

PS. The curry isn't bad either, it's a decent side option, but it does make it quite expensive even with their 'deal' of half a curry; it is a very small serving so be aware of that if you're considering it.

My first ramen ever, so possibly judge my review accordingly, but I believe it was a goodie. I'm vegetarian, which they were very accommodating about, and their vegetarian ramen option (a variation on the miso soup ramen) was delicious. Broth super-yum. Bowl maybe didn't include as much non-noodle stuff in it as in some photos of ramen that I've seen online, but the extras in it just happened to all be my faves (bok choy, sprouts, sesame, optional egg). The staff were lovely and were talking to each other in Japanese. My friend and I are dreaming of a trip to Japan so we enjoyed pretending we were previewing that trip. Meals arrived quickly. I can't believe I ate all the extra noodles but I totally did!

Tried all the ramen and never under expectation. Food is ready in a short time. Good news to students: showing your student card will get a 10% discounts! Hooray!

Best Ramen in Brisbane - outstanding! The cold menu is surprisingly good as well and worth trying. It gets very busy at lunch so if you want to eat in go a little before 12 noon to secure a table.

While the overall taste is good, the noodles looked a little on the cheaper/more processed side.

Prices are a tad expensive compared to some others as well but overall not bad.

My second favourite ramen shop in Brisbane! not too strong fatty flavours and is very sappari which is light on the stomach but still with a lot of flavour! I always get the shoyu ramen! students also get a 10% discount!

Ramen broth was great and perfect amount of noodles. Other toppings were a little light, but overall was a good meal including a side bao order.

Men Ya Go is my favourite ramen place in brisbane! Consistently delicious, quick service and good variety of ramens. They also do chicken karage baos and pork baos.

Friday nite city shopping, craving unhealthy Korean food so made our way to Mo Mo Chicken. The place was packed! With at least 20 pp waiting with an expected wait time of 40min, we ditched that idea. Second stop, Maru BBQ and again over 30min wait time
with my stomach growling, toddler tantruming & wife complaining (she always do that anyway
) we quickly crossed the road and bumped into Men Ya Go.

The place was busy, but we were able to secure their last table. With that sorted, it’s time to order. Their menu consist a small selection of ramen, rice bowls with only gyoza as appetiser. After a small discussion with their friendly staff, we ordered Shoyo Tonkotsu, Miso Ramen & plate of gyoza to share.

All our orders came the same time so I will start with the gyoza. The five gyoza serving appears with an appetising oil glaze and pan fried to light brown. Biting into the gyoza we realized the filling contains pork mince, chopped carrot with a touch of spring onion. The main disappointment was the mildly warm and dry filling but the overall taste was quite good. 3/5

The Shoyo Tonkotsu was generous in serving with two large charsu slices, Japanese dried seaweed, half egg, dried bamboo shoots and spring onion to garnish. The pork based soup was milky in colour and well flavoured with big pork bone and a touch of seafood taste. Biting into the charsu was a satisfying experience with the meat & pork fat melting into your mouth and extremely flavoursome. The noodles were thin, chewy and mops up the soup nicely. Minor disappointment was the overcooked marinated half egg. 3.5/5

The Miso Ramen from our opinion was the highlight of the night. The ramen consist of charsu slices, half egg, dried bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and spring onion to garnish. The miso and pork based soup was perfectly seasoned with a depth of flavour consists two type of miso, pork bone and seafood. Majority of ramen places in Australia misjudge the miso soup base and nearly all the places we tried were overly salty and oily. Men Ya Go absolutely nailed the soup base with mild flavouring with a hint of salt. The flavour is very similar to the ones we tried in Sapporo. Bravo! 4.5/5

The service at Men Ya Go was very friendly, attentive and overall vibe was cheerful and energetic. If you pay attention you will realize all the staff is female. Go girls!

Hint: Their Miso Ramen is a must try. Seasonal cold chicken noodle varieties is great for a hot summer day.

I been sampling different ramen places in BNE for a while now. Taro's comes out on top, followed by this one. I do say their style is a bit different hence I like both for change. Taro seems to use higher welfare ingredients but also is more expensive.

I actually prefer men ya go's charsiu style over taros, but Taros broth is better. (not by much though).

I like Men Ya Go. Even though I have only tried two dishes so far, both were delicious with distinctive characters. Cold Spicy Chicken Ramen was amazing. It is a bowl of ramen deserving a spot in your tummy even in this hot summer we are heading towards. It was flavourful, balanced, and tasty. I would definitely eat it again and again. That was my first experience at Men Ya Go and I had been dying to try their hot ramen since.

I saw a great opportunity tonight cause it had been raining and the weather had cooled down considerably. Perfect! Cause sweating while eating is not gonna make the meal very pleasurable. Burnt Garlic Chashu Tonkotsu $15 was my choice. Oh man...it was good. The first spoonful surprised me with how earthy it tasted. I mean I have tried black garlic at every ramen shop I went where it's available cause it's my favourite choice. It has never seized to amaze me how different it can taste at different establishment. I added a fair amount of chilli oil for a bit of kick and some freshly ground sesame. It just simply made me happy. We are talking good noodles, awesome pork, amazing soup. They also offer free kaedama/extra noodles for you big eaters out there. No walking out hungry.

The girls behind the counter were always happy, polite, and attentive. They certainly make you feel valued, added to already a great meal equals great experience. I would definitely go back there again and keep this review updated on more dishes. :)

Loved this place. Good service, 10% student discount. Noodles were much better than Hakataya ramen. Don't know why everyone is complaining it's pricey? literally every other bloody ramen place has ramen for $13-15. Would definitely come back again.
Victoria
Bit pricey but I like their ramen a little better than Hakataya's. Haven't tried many but should prob look more into it. Their chashu rice is really good though. Their buns are good too. Also good to know that their staff are all Japanese which preserves the authenticity of the flavours, unlike a lot of Japanese shops that are operated by non Japanese. Must try!

I asked for a recommendation for their best chilli dish & was hooked up with chilli mince, $15 is more than a like to spend on a quick lunch but it certainly was very good, big portion which I didn't think I would finish it all but it was so yummy it quickly disappeared, staff are super friendly
Darkchocau
If you like Hakata ramen then you will like the noodles here, I think it is comparable to Ippudo and Ichiran in Japan. The Tonkotsu soup is not particularly memorable but the miso soup ramen is by far the best I have had. If you have tried miso ramen in Hokkaido, this will definitely bring back memories, very comforting and rich, ideal food on a cold winter night.
S Fingers
Too pricey, $13.80 for a basic ramen. the broth is not as rich as the one in Taro's ramen (located in the city and ascot). not going back again
Ashley Foo
definitely WAAAYYY better than hakataya, only reason to go there is for free birthday noodles. men ya go has better variety and taste in my opinion
Crystal A
I always get the spicy shoyu and it really is spicy - I'd say this beats Hakataya out of the ball park because of the added egg and how less "fast food" it tastes. Both are so good though - the meat here is a bit thicker if you're after that. Overall really good ramen!
Frenchfrygirl
One of my favourite foods has to be ramen. I have sought near and far to find the best ramen in Brisbane and this is it. I am a chilli-seeker so have ordered the spicy shoyu tonkotsu numerous times, which is the clear winner. Garlic shoyu tonkotsu would have to be the runner up.
Atreyu
This is the sort of place that you would have a better chance of finding by walking down a different route rather than from scouting out a place to find a meal, particularly because Brisbane is less known for its lane ways than other cities. In probably one of the least flashy entrances, there is an L-shaped alleyway on Elizabeth and Albert Street across from Queen Street Mall. A few eateries are around here, and they have the right idea.

One day, I had a small window of time between finishing work, having to fit in some training and then having to more or less get to night class immediately something quick was on the agenda. I had noted this place, and thought to start going somewhere different for once to mix it up. And my impression of the place is, just adequate.

When it comes to service, it is decidedly minimalist. What happens at the very base is that you go up, order and then pay following up by getting a receipt with a number on it. Regardless of whether you stay put to have your meal or have it to go, they call it out and have it displayed on the counter complete with tray. Then, take your soup and find a seat. In all honesty, this is part of the charm of finding a ramen bar. Food is quick, fairly wholesome and you do know what you are going to get.

Seating is also really minimalist. Inside are two long, continuous benches opposite from one another where you can just plonk down on a seat and be anti-social; outside is al fresco with several tables. The width of this place is certainly longer than the depth. On the bench is a collection of condiments to create sauces for orders and to season the meals as the customer pleases. A collection of chopsticks is also available to pick up before getting your meal.

The menu at Men Ya go is really simple, and quite small. Even on one single page, they manage to offer between 1-2 dozen varieties of ramen and don buri and display a picture of each one. Any time this is a factor, I actually quite like it - sometimes it is the eyes that do the deciding, which can be detrimental if you are on a diet. There is also a small lot of extras to be put either on the side or onto the soup. Each ramen comes with a free kae-dama - free noodles, just ask at any point and no worries. That is a nice addition.

The order I went for was the garlic tonkotsu. Outside of the distinct burnt garlic taste, there is not a whole lot to really recommend about the ramen here. It looked nice to begin with, but mostly was fairly bland and uninspiring. It came down to the broth, after a couple of good slices of nice, fatty pork and a solid hard-boiled egg, the rest of it was about so-so. Something about the noodles seemed a bit off, they were chewy and didn't seem to mix well with the broth either - kind of disappointing between the great bits of garlic swimming in the soup.

On the side I went for an order of gyoza, which were freshly steamed to order. These were better by a fair bit. They were incredibly soft and very juicy, having a nice pork mixture in the middle. It is good knowing that there are always good gyozas around, and they are often fresh and refreshing.

For what it is worth, the most I can muster up afterwards is that it's a'ight. Compared to some of the other examples of what is around, and that is going merely by getting a bowl of ramen - fair is fair - it is very weak in comparison. It needs to get a bit more excitement into it, have a bit more of a lively and inviting atmosphere or make the ramen a bit more interesting and have flavour. Compared to the competition around, not a whole lot is really here to distinguish Men Ya Mappen. In an area full of hungry students, and plenty of them having a liking for ramen it pays to pay attention to the competition.

Even so, there is something about the location that has potential - dip down an alleyway to get away from the main stretch of hustle and bustle, it has a quiet ambiance that it shares with a few other eateries that are also down here. However, down to the bone it did not leave an impression on me. For any of my future ramen cravings, I will go elsewhere.

the first time i came here right after its grand opening, wasn't too sure i like it. So it took me while to bring me back here, since bear hasn't tried this yet, so we will just have another go. To me, is still the same, i don't like the texture of the ramen. but bear loves it and thinks that is better than hakataya.
ElsewhereBriefly
Had lunch here, after a documentary sparked ramen cravings.. Also fortunate that they kept their website up to date, so we knew they would be open on the Ekka public holiday. Not the easiest place to find, even with the address, as it's tucked down the walkway corridor of the building as opposed to bring outside facing the street. Also means rancid cigarette smoke from anyone walking by gets blown by a lot.
Had the tonkotsu ramen with burnt garlic oil. It was a more delicate flavour than Hakataya, and not as seasoned. It was a thick and hearty broth though. The noodles were a bit overcooked, as was the egg. Overall, not bad, and they do have a number of different varieties of broth you can have, such as shio, and a chicken base one.
The one other thing that does get me though, is how they are more rigid about the loyalty cards than other places. Whereas other places will let you get a stamp on the card per bowl of noodles purchased (meaning if you go with friends you can accumulate more on the card), here they will only allow one stamp on separate cards for each person. It would be better if they would bring it more in line with elsewhere.

Just had lunch here. Pretty good ramen I have to say. Ordered garlic tonkotsu and it was nice. You can taste the pork broth, soy sauce, and garlic. Yummy. Definitely better than hakataya. Service was quick and the staff was nice. The price is a bit expensive compare to other ramen ($15)

Went to check out this place when it first opened with friends. The ramen there is average. Though I would prefer this place over Hakataya but that's only because of the egg. All ramen should have soft-boiled egg!!!
Ian Ho
It's a quaint little men ya (Japanese for noodle shop) in a spot that has changed hands several times over the last year. From what I experienced I think it will do better than the two previous tenants.
Unlike The Food Extinguisher's experience of her ramen, mine was slightly better: my egg was not overcooked. Of course, her review was 2 months ago, shortly after they had just opened so teething issues may have been addressed by now.

Today I tried the miso ramen. The soup, although a little lacking in porkiness, was quite savoury (as well as salty, my goodness I was quite thirsty afterwards!!) and the noodles were fresh noodles (not packet bought) - very similar to those used by Hakataya Ramen.

Verdict: less cramped and less busy than Hakataya Ramen. Not too sure which one I prefer the taste of... guess I will have to have them both a few more times!! Hee hee - OH! And they have payWave.
DJ
They serve the best ramen in Brisbane and also provide really good service. Have been there twice already and certainly will be back again and again.

Really great new place, good value and tasty as hell.

Fantastic Japanese pork ramen!

Head over to Men Ya Go for Ramen that's only so-so. Shio Broth ($12.60) was light and it tasted alright. The Miso Ramen ($13.80) had strong miso flavours. Every bowl of ramen comes with free Kae-dama (extra noodles)!
