Review Kim Khanh - Brisbane

John Boxall
Visited on the way home, as they were open late. Had a lovely and flavourful pho, and tasty stuffed chicken wings. Iced coffee was the fuel we needed to drive home. And great service. Will look forward to our next visit.

Really good food! Friendly staff. Great find! I highly recommend this place when you have late night craving!

Kim Khanh is the BEST restaurant for Chinese and Vietnamese food 5/5 stars! The customer service is outstanding, always cater to your needs. I have never had a bad experience here. Very hospitable and welcoming. Quality food, you get what you pay for. Plentiful servings too, always full afterward. The best Pho in Brisbane! The sliced chicken Pho Noodle Soup is perfection. Even in a takeaway it still tastes fresh and they give you the broth in seperate container so it is much easier to put together at home. Their vegetarian spring rolls are huge! Taste amazing and are always crispy! The sweet and sour chicken just genuinely tastes good. You know you’re getting quality ingredients.

Popped over for lunch as it was close to my friend's place n saw great reviews. The decoration is old skool. I find that to be super cool. It brings you back in time to the "good old days". The owner said the chef was Chinese. Ordered stir fry chicken thick rice noodles and Sze chuan beef. The noodle dish had the wok fire aka wok hei. Which is very important in such a dish and it hit the spot and reminds me what the food back in singapore. The beef dish was stir fried in spicy bean paste sauce. Didn't have the signature Sze chuan pepper bite. Had a good spice level which I enjoyed in a home cooked meal. The portions are generous and the damage was around $30 for both dishes.

This is easily the best Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane, if not the best Asian Restaurant. We eat out a lot and love Asian cuisine and this one never fails, the food is delicious and service is prompt and the owners are so friendly.

Food was pretty good. Ordered takeaway chicken pho online so you would expect no mistakes. Got home to find beef pho .Too far and too late to return. Does nobody check orders before handing over.

Normally quite good but unfortunately, the service tonight was lacking. The waiter took our order incorrectly and when we asked to have the order corrected, he pleaded with us to accept that order. To make it worse, in the end, we were charged more for a dish we didn’t want. The waiter’s response was ‘I already apologised’.

It is past 1pm and I am ravenous so I drive to one of 6 nearby Vietnamese restaurants. On arrival I ask the waitress for a Big Pho Dac Biet with extra Meat/Offal.

My near boiling Combination Pho arrives after 5 minutes. The Beef broth is well balanced and tasty. I see a good serve of rice noodles and a generous serve of Beef Brisket, Raw Sliced Beef, Beef Tendon and Beef Balls. A very satisfying meal!

Great food here my family have dined here quite a few times however, one time we decided to order take out a few times and every time we ordered take out they would get the order wrong so I wouldn’t recommend ordering take out however I would recommend dining in, even their deserts are delicious.

YUM!! Consistently beautiful, non pretentious food. Make your own rice paper rolls, chicken and cashews, combination soup and chicken omelet are some of my faves!!!!

Beef Pho was too sweet and too salty. I barely finish half of the bowl because I was hungry. The service was nice and dining area was clean but I won’t visit again

Can’t go wrong with the crispy chicken and beef with peaking sauce. Yum and well priced every time. Food is always fresh and the service is quick.

As a family we love going to this place everytime we venture out to Darra. It's kid friendly, good food and excellent service . It's always efficient, clean and friendly. Great traditional Vietnamese menu, and well priced .

We had been wanting to travel out from the city to Darra for a Vietnamese fix for quite some time, and settled on Kim Khanh after reading positive reviews from loyal regulars on Zomato.

We had two absolutely delicious and fresh rice vermicelli bowls (one tofu, one beef), as well as some of the best salt and pepper tofu we've eaten as an entree.

Friendly service from a lovely young guy, and we wouldn't have waited more than 10 minutes for all of our (freshly prepared) food to arrive.

This is NOT a trendy inner city hipster dive with inflated prices, but IS a foodie paradise hidden away in Darra with a family-friendly vibe, and a slightly kitschy and dated decor that only added to the ambience.

Great value at $35 for two.

We'll be back very soon despite the half hour drive each way!

The pho here is a must try! We have never had a bad meal here and always make the extra drive to dine here. Every time we walk in we’re greeted by lovely staff and always have an amazing meal at a great price!

Have only had take away and the food has been fantastic. Hot and fresh when ever we have picked it up. Meals are generous and very tasty. Best I've had in a while.

This is one of my regular take away joints as it is only about 10 minutes away from my home.

I order a dish which isnt on the menu but the staff are always really happy and helpful to accomadate.

Salt n Pepper Pork Spare Ribs!!! Delightful!!! and the Szechuan chicken is super tasty also.

If your hungry, and want a nice place to go with your friends, i recommend trying it

I really like this place, it's simple and good value, the food is delicious and doesn't take too long. The service was interesting - at first I thought the guy was rude because everything was being done so fast and we felt hurried but then I got used to him and he was actually super friendly and just trying to provide good service - turned out to be a great guy. I like the little touches like the free prawn crackers to start and the orange slices at the end, so simple but really appreciated.

If you are looking for some great Asian cuisine look no further
The service was some of the best I have experienced
The food was delicious and kept me wanting more
The food was brought out very quickly
The price was reasonable ($80 for 4 mains and 2 entrees with drinks)
Overall very hard to fault and I will defiantly be going back!
Highly recommend if you are in the mood for Chinese or Vietnamese

Excellent and friendly service. They are really good with food sensitivities too. They can make gluten-free alternatives to most dishes on their menu. I had the salt pepper squid. The corn flour batter was tasty and light. My companions had quail and honey chicken. Each were quite satisfied and ate every morsel.

If you are looking for traditional Vietnamese Kim Khanh is your place to go! The staff are always friendly and your food always arrived in lightning fast time. My go to is the DIY rice paper rolls :)

So cheap and so good !!! In the heart of the Vietnamese community out in Darra.

My Friend You Number One (anyone who has ever eaten at Cam Rahn back in the day knows what I am talking about)

DELICIOUS!!. I've been here a few times and I never used to like it... I think I was ordering the wrong things or maybe my love of asian food has really sky rocketed in recent months/years. I had spring rolls, deep friend wontons & the chicken vermicelli salad - all were so amazing & tasty!!!

Since then it's all I think about, every time a friend or my partner want something to do, I always put Kim Khanh at the forefront and pray they agree with me!

Kim Khanh - New Years eve 2014. As one would expect, there was nothing pretentious about the makeshift restaurant, but the flavours, freshness, hospitality and service was right on par with the best traditional Vietnamese has to offer. We over ordered, and where spring rolls would be prised, they were sitting by the wayside on a plate while we made our own rice paper wraps and dunked them in the fish sauce. Lu ordered fresh chillis, and those little suckers packed a serious punch, but it's all part of the cuisine and experience you have to try if you want to enjoy true Vietnamese cuisine.

Love it. Excellent. Ordered:-
Chicken Thai Fried rice
Satay Chicken
Vermicelli combination
Soft Shell Crab
Salt and pepper squid
One of my fav places to eat.

Upon arriving we were warmly greeted and taken to a seat. We ordered a special beef noodle soup & combination glass noodle soup. Not impressed tasted bad. Noodles were not fresh as they must use dry & the glass noodle soup has this old stale oil taste. Service was excellent but sorry wont be back because of bad food.

This used to be a family favourite until 2007 when we were treated rudely and lost a twice confirmed birthday party reservation due to being 10 mins late

Until then we had been dining here monthly for about 14 years, and visiting more often than that for take aways

Luckily we found a smaller, cleaner and friendlier establishment close by that we now love!

Excellent place. Very basic inside, street style type food, really cheap, lots of it & high quality.
A regular joint for us, Highly recommended .

Don't Bother If You Know Your Viet Food. Food here is one of the worst Vietnamese in Brisbane!

Low quality ingredients and seasonings make this place a no go: noodles were mushy and falling apart, salt and pepper squid was a rubbery affair and didn't taste fresh at all. Chicken tasted suspiciously off, spring rolls were a weird doughy concoction and the seasonings used were cheap ones that's full of MSG and leaves a foul chemical taste in the mouth after the meal. All you can taste in each dish was MSG and loads of it.
If you know your Viet food, wouldn't recommend this place.

Cheap and Scrumptious. We've been coming to Kim Khanh for years. Hong the current owner is a real sweetie and very accommodating. Do, the legendary waiter formerly from Cam Ranh, brightens the place with his animated antics and is always doing his best to please customers. The other staff could benefit from being as friendly as he is. The food is tasty and portions are very generous. My son loves the crispy skin chicken and so do most kids that we've brought to Kim Khanh. It's infinitely better than KFC! I love the fish gravy soup, the pho, duck soup, deep fried flounder, fish hot pot, and soft shell crab to name a few. The decor is kitsch and cheerful, with plastic crocodiles, fish tanks, dangling mobiles and a cheeky kitty who prowls outside. I hope they never change it! We are big eaters and usually leave with our bellies bursting for about $10 a head. What's not to love!?

If its 5 stars you want you've come to the wrong place but if its authentic Vietnamese food that taste great with an unbeatable value for money, then you've found it! Friendly service too!

The friendly service was very appreciated. However the food for me was a little hit and miss. Daggy decor is certainly not in issue for me, but guys c'mon this place is so grubby!!! It really put me off going there again.

Been going here for probely 15 years or so since i was really young. and the food is amazing even after the owners change i love it. go there once a week with the fam and we literally get treated like royalty. my niece and nephew even got shirts from sydney when the owners went. overall this place is cheap and really good. a classic chinese resturant.

Favorite place to eat out ever! Not only cheap but absolutely lovely food. The vermicelli salad, crispy squid and roll your own rice paper rolls are our favorites. Best place for poor uni students.

This place used to be fantastic. That was before the change in owners and chefs. The pho is still delicious and for the price you really cant complain. The decor and bathroom area at the back is something else...

New fav!! Cheap, simple and delicious. The decor is atrocious but the overall experience is a hoot. Who thought dining in someone's garage would be so enjoyable.

Downhill since change of hands.... Used to love this place. Always so busy which is a great sign. Dining in - the place itself could use some remodelling/upgrading, but have to say, the food was always fresh, and quick service. The waitress was so friendly & remembered our whole order without writing anything down - and even guessed what we would have for dessert! But then... change of hands.... Since then, we have been once & only once & have not been back. The staff can hardly speak English for starters, and the food was good, but just not up to scratch to how it used to be. But after struggling with the staff & long breaks between attendance by them, we have not been back, and are not in any hurry either.

Good ol' Vietnamese Restaurant!. This place has been open for over 20 years (maybe even 30+!) and has changed hands a number of times since I started going with my parents as a kid. I absolutely love it though! I've had this place recommended to me by a number of Vietnamese Australians, only to surprise them when they find out that I already know how good it is!
The food is always good, the service is quick, efficent and the waiters and owners are always really friendly. The setting is really quaint, with glass panels displaying a huge (and a tad old) underwater diarama at the back of the restaurant, and pretty simple table cloths, chairs and tables, the place has a genuine Vietnamese ambience. If you want to get real Vietnamese food just ask the waiters for their recommendations, they're always good! They also have Chinese food here, and it's always good too. Great place for a family dinner, dinner with friends, or just a casual date. Highly recommended!!!
