Review Yum Yum Peking Duck - Brisbane

A popular restaurant for locals. Delicious Roast Ducks, Sweet & Sour Pork, Special Fried Rice and Chicken & Salt Fish Fried Rice.

Delicious fried rice and appetizing duck. My daughter loved the deep fried ice-cream.

We tried the Peking duck 2 course because of the good reviews but it wasn’t good. Because we opted to have the pancakes with duck skin and the duck chopped up to take home. There was not much cucumber and spring onion with duck pancake. But what made it no good was I don’t believe we received the duck exactly. When I went to make dinner using my takeaway duck there were 4 duck legs and various pieces of duck bones with not much meat on them. I believe they didn’t give us the duck breast and kept that for themselves to make other dishes. If it wasn’t for the deceit, I would’ve gave more stars. I can see that I have been ripped off but too late to do anything about it because I opted to take away the duck. It would have been better if they gave me the duck in front of me so we could eat it at the restaurant but apparently that was not an option so all the more reason that believe I did not receive the duck as a whole. You can’t fool me. I won’t come back to this place because of this dishonesty. If the owner tries to rebutt this review then explain how a duck has 4 legs and no breast. Also it costed $95 for this totally disappointing dinner so quite expensive for what it is.

Used to be a regular here. Was waiting extremely long for service. Whilst waiting, my daughter wanted the bag of pawn crackers $4 but was told we had to order a basket instead. Watched the owner pour half the take away pawn cracker bag out to us and proceed to charge $5. Also price increases does not justify quality or quantity for suburban restaurants in the area. Go to Inala you get better tasting and affordable food with fast service.

We took the Peking duck combo with duck skin(no meat) pancakes followed by the chowmein packed with duck meat. Both dishes were amazing and it was definitely enough for 2. The owners were patient and even let us take the duck carcase. Would definitely recommend

Don't usually write reviews however I am now a big fan of this joint. I have been twice now and both times I got the Peking duck and it was fantastic (and great value). The two course is plenty for two people but I can see how it would also be able to feed three. The three course is definitely too much for two people (would suit 3-4 perfectly). Definitely lived up to its name ;)

Food was really delicious. The peking duck and san choi bao were amazing. Wait staff awesome and it was kid friendly (good booster seats and no fuss was made when our little one spilt stuff). A bit noisy and our table near the door was a bit cramped and windy when customers went in/out but overall a nice experience.

Small place but clean and friendly . the food is fresh and well served . The peking duck is nice and crispy . Last time we've had Singapore noodle and Mongolian lamb on hot plate , it was delicious and we could hardly finish our plate . We'll certainly go back there again .. This was our second time . Recommended .

Five minutes from home, we visit Yum Yum for some takeaway lunch. The two Signature dishes we ask for are a whole Roast Duck and Salt Fish & Diced Chicken Fried Rice. As expected, the two dishes are excellent. And delicious!<br/><br/>With... Phuong Tran

Tucked away in south Brisbane, pretty easy to find and get a park. The Peking duck is delicious however when you order the banquet they use the duck in all the dishes, I find that they tend to use only a little meat in the Peking duck pancakes so you mainly get skin (all though still delicious).

I can't speak for the $60 worth of food because it wasn't for me. But the customer service I received from the young girl over the phone and then at the counter was unaccomodating and sassy. (And I was very nice.) I completed my order on the phone then called back less than a minute later to politely change the size of my sweet and sour sauce. And she responded "I just made it but OK". I thanked her and hung up. When I got there I then realised the sauces were tiny and asked if I could order a large size, specifically a sweet and sour pork without the meat. I was told "no." which upon seeing my confused face she added "because it takes too long to mix". Still lost on that one. I wonder if I would have been told no if I ordered a sweet and sour pork? Would she still be too lazy to make that? (The restaurant was empty btw) Hopefully the food leaves a better taste in the mouth, but I won't be back.

Friendly, welcoming and great understanding of their menu so they are more than happy to answer any questions. Was a great experience for our first time and most definitely will not be our last. 🙌🙌🙌

We went in about when they just opened so it was nice and quiet, the staff were very friendly (and could speak in two languages fluently, including English). The food was very nice and FAST. Will go again and would definitely recommend.

Great food and decent prices. The venue was pretty full so we got takeaway instead. Even though the venue was busy, we didn’t have to wait too long for our order.<br/>Great customer service too. Try the honey BBQ pork!

Had their 3-course Peking Duck and it was very scrumptious. Service was very swift and friendly. Definitely one of the best Peking Duck in Brissy!

Peking duck is tasty. The other dishes is not something I'd rave about. The prawns in the dishes we had were powdery, which would make me question their freshness. Next time I might stick to the Peking duck.

no major alertness outside (a very  humble place indeed - it was not the fanciest to look at and no tablecloths BUUUUUT OMG!!!... the most eye appealing, generous and yummiest food we've ever eaten at a chinese restaurant + genuinely friendly, helpful and sufficiently-English-understanding speaking customer service with a one-on-one focus on what the customer wants + they offer suggestions and will accommodate to our requests. they couldn't do enough to make our meal a memorable one - we will DEFINIETLY be customers for life!!!... we've not had a 'local chinese' for many years - now we've finally found ours again!!! thank you yum yum (or so yum yum) peking duck yum yum yummy yummy yum!!!  :-)

Not authentic Peking Duck but still quite tasty with the crispy skin. The service was friendly and efficient, can't fault it. Both the waitresses were attentive and thoughtful. Ordered the sichuan prawn too which was not that great. Overall a decent food experience, but not one I'll rush back to straight away.

We strolled in quite late for a weekend lunch and we were seated straight away. Agreed the ambience is lacking but the food was amazing. We ordered the three course duck meal for two and it was brought to us promptly.<br/><br/>Really enjoyable experience. Will go again.

Totally delicious .. Nice family run restaurant. Been there twice now and really enjoyed ... It's all about the duck banquet tho ..do yourself a favour!

Roast & bbq porks are bad. Haven't tried Peking duck as most are not authentic; however the roast & bbq porks are not up to scratch, not very friendly manner, will never go back.

Took more than half an hour to prepare the dishes, food is just ok,also charge 2.5 for eftpos for spending under $50,which is over 5%

Excellent Duck. Went on Saturday and enjoyed it immensely.<br/>The Duck was sensational and the staff friendly and appreciative of our business.<br/>Will go back again.

Yummmmmmm!. Food: Try the duck meat roll / pancake. Unusual, but very delious combining a batter roll, duck and ginger.<br/>Service: Very helpful. No qualms, nice family run business.<br/>Ambience: Simple, low key(very low key!) but the food is good enough to compensate<br/>Price: the prices are more than reasonable, in fact very good value for the effort put in to the food.<br/>Overall: A bit of a discovery. The kind of place you will go back to to try out the rest of the menu.

Consistently delicious and definite recommendation 10/10

Review. I am on my way home when I decide to eat in Yum Yum Pecking Duck. The Pecking Duck is good but the taste is not authentic. I want something tasty which you’ll think that the chef search all over the world to gather the finest ingredients. Beside the ambiance is not so good.

Don't believe the haters. I've visited now and then over the past few years and have never had a problem any dish ordered. I've never had the peking duck courses but have had duck several times. While not true peking style i love the flavour as it is. Service has always been friendly, not quite as attentive with a full house, but better than many other suburban asian eateries. Never rude. <br/><br/>I don't find the decor bad, it's certainly better than some other Viet/Chinese places in the area. The crockery might be chipped and the dining area cramped but with the quality of the food who cares. That's why us foodies search for these hidden gems.<br/><br/>Access couldn't be easier with the train station across the road. Yes they charge $2.50 to use eftpos, you've been warned. And make sure you make a reservation for weekends cause it packs out.<br/><br/>I've been through Sunshine (Vic), Flemington (NSW), and recently to a couple of West End's top rated viet places and the salt and pepper dishes here are still some of the best I've ever found.<br/><br/>Note Yum Yum does serve noodle soup dishes with duck, combination etc. They just don't appear on the menu that way. Apparently it's there in chinese but in the english translation it just says noodles, nothing about soup. The wait staff will sort you out.
About Townie
Peking duck! You have to get your order correct as I found out, there's true crispy duck and bbq plum duck, be aware, there are two types as I found out on this visit.I noticed other reviews here had bad comments but I don't think they know what they are eating!! So called food critics. I've eaten here for the past 7 years and it's good for what you are paying for. Keep up the good work Peking duck

If you love Peking duck...don't come here. I LOVE Peking duck and the experience here was utterly disappointing. The food was terrible, the ambience like a Xian train station waiting room (tip: use your bathroom at home) and the service like something straight out of Fawlty Towers....'Manuel, that's not what I ordered'... in short there is better duck in Brisbane, there are nicer places all around and it just is not worth it.
Foodie
Ordered 2 course Peking duck, beef chow mien and salty fish fried rice. The Peking duck was too oily and were not cut up in bite sized pieces. Had a headache after eating it. The chow mien was average at best - little to no flavor. The salty fish fried rice was bad - rice was still clumped up and had no flavor. Keep in mind you're paying $15 for a smallish sized plate. In comparison to little Singapore beef show mien for $12.50 you get almost double the size with enough flavor to boot.

Not Proper Peking Duck. OK, for the so called name of the restaurant - this place serves up 'amateur' peking duck. Although many people have commented that it's tasty, it is not authentic.<br/>First of all, many people confuse between Peking Duck and Roast Duck - and many places serve Roast Duck onto crepe, with some garnish and sauce and call it Peking Duck. Secondly, the way that the duck is cooked must be proper. The skin must DETACH it self from the meat (that is only the crispy skin is served with the crepe); and thirdly the dish is served must be done by a properly trained wait-person who knows how to 'surgically' cut up the skin in case any of the fat/meat is still stuck on the skin. So in that regard, this restaurant makes a good attempt at doing Peking Duck - but still Amateur. But for those who like 'fat' or duck meat with their crepes, then try this place out. Otherwise, the closest to authentic Peking Duck is the Pine & Bamboo Restaurant all the way up at Canon Hill.<br/><br/>The last thing which is my main worry is that - all deep fried dishes that we ordered were covered with MSG. We could literally see the MSG granules sprinkled all over our Salt n Pepper whiting and Soft-shell crab (imagine all the MSG that has dissolved into the batter). So if you've got allergies or simply don't like MSG - avoid this place.

Lives up to it's name. Yum Yum.. This is an honest Chinese restaurant. It cooks good quality, honest food in a Hong Kong style, and it is really very good. <br/>We eat here often.

Very good. Had Peking duck two course and duck meat roll as an entree. Very happy. Don't go there for ambience. But go there for good Chinese.

I've eaten in here once and had the Peking duck. Despite the awful decor and seating the Peking duck is as good as I've ever had in Brisbane tey do it very well.<br/><br/>I also recently tried take away of other non Peking duck dishes and they were some of the worst tasting variations of stock standard Chinese cuisine I've had in a long time.<br/><br/>I'm not sure how to rate this restaurant, great for Peking duck, awful for anything else. At least they do their signature dish very well.

Great place. Fast efficient service and delicious food. Great value for money. We had the peking duck 2 course meal and it was excellent. Basic decor and we were ushered out by 10pm but all part of the experience. Will definitely go back again and again!

Bit squishy, service a little unorganized, but the food was yummy!!! The squid was beautiful, will def go back :)

As usual good authentic Chinese food. Decor crap, food delicious and happy plump staff (always a good sign)

Amazing duck! and the rest!. Although this is not the most polished of places, it really REALLY makes up for it in the food. The tables, chairs and settings are basic, but when the food comes you feel like you're in heaven! I was recommended this place as the best peking duck in Brisbane and it truly is!!! We got the peking duck and it blew some of my friends away with how good it was. They ended up going back the next night it was so good! I wish I could have joined them for it again (because it was so amazing), but I was busy :( All the other food we had was also really good, and everything was great value.<br/>I HIGHLY recommended this place!!!

Sorry Mag. Mag should probably refrain from writing reviews if she doesn't know what peking duck is or how it should be served. To that extent the only part of her review that is valid is "who reviews these restuarants?"<br/>Yum Yum Peking Duck Provides the best Peking Duck that I have had in Australia. The pancakes are perfect<br/>and not meat to be crepes.<br/>The crispy skin of the duck is a very major part of the delicacey.<br/><br/>Mag stick to Ekka food stalls for your critique in future as anything else seems to be beyond you.
Mag
Maybe the worest meal of my life. Ordered the duck in advance, and had opted for the 2 course meal. 1st course crepe with duck. Translated into skin on a wonton with a spring of green and a dot of sauce. Where's the duck? Where's the crepe?? The table was clutter in tiny plates of 12 of these so called crepes. Skin? A few had meat I them. Then the shredded duck with steamed rice. 1 plate between 3, once again, not much of our duck to be seen. Just a few spouts, and red onion in a sauce. $57 later, not sure for what? Never again. Who is reviewing these places??!

Possibly the best Peking duck in Brisbane. Service is quick and the restaurant is always packed. This does impact on the atmosphere however as it can feel a bit rushed. The decor is really terrible but worth putting up with for the food.
Jeffvader
Best Peking Duck in town. Great peking duck, my friends tell me the other dishes are good too but I'll say it again, Great Peking Duck!

Highly recommended. Tiny restaurant in Darra with awesome food. Had the three course Peking Duck which was fantastic, authentic and reasonably priced. Make sure you book ahead.

It was fantastic. We had the VIP Banqet for $34 each. It tasted fantastic. The service was awesome. We couldn't eat all the banquets and took 3 home. The Peking Duck Crepes are very nice

Always good. Eveytime I have been to this restaurant, the quality of food is good, sometimes lacks service but the food more than makes up for it.<br/>Well done keep up the quality of food.

Great Peking duck crepes with a generous serving of crispy skin on each. What wad a surprise was the variety of other choices on the specials blackboard. Don't miss one of the rich, comforting hotpots (eg taro and pork) on a cold night..

Service was friendly and quick. Ordered the peeking duck two course which was excellent. Will definately go back again.

Since we were at Yum Yum for one thing and one thing only - we ordered the two-course duck, which included the Peking duck and the duck with lettuce wrap.  Other choices are available, but I didn't feel like soup or anything.  The Peking duck (49) was not bad, though they didn't do a good job of cleaning the fat off the skin (which proper Peking duck is supposed to have)...

Yum Yum Peking Duck creates the best Asian food in Brisbane. Within this tiny Darra restaurant is a fantastic array of Hong Kong / Chinese dishes, so ludicrously delicious, it is a crime that this place is still relatively unknown. We've been d

From the outset, the restaurant looks like a plain Asian eatery. It wasn't fancy and stylish, but it was cramped, busy, noisy and IMO this adds to authenticity...We ended up going for the 3 course peking duck (not the one depicted in menu above), plus some extra dishes to share. Peking duck wraps Food was served very promptly. I assume because duck is their specialty, there are always ducks crisping up, ready to be carved. The delivery wasn't as formal as peking duck restaurants I've tried tried in China (where the duck is wheeled out and carved before your eyes). In this case, it was carved on the bench at the back of the room and by the time it was brought out to us, it was in edible form.
