The food was fine. I enjoyed my meal, but I could definitely taste the excess oil. The Po Chicken is rather nice, something I recommend to try, whilst the Nasi Lemak is just mediocre.

My friends and I visit this restaurant mainly because it closes very late and has a huge variety of food. I haven’t tried much on the menu yet but the sweet and sour pork ribs with rice is so yum. Price is also affordable. Would recommend if you’re just looking for an quick and easy meal!

Had dinner at this eatery last night. Correct me if I am wrong that I have a gut feeling of a new management again since my last visit. Business was very quiet last night and there were plenty of parking spaces in the Market Square and also many unoccupied tables in this restaurant.
We ordered the “KL” stir fry ‘starch noodles’, Roti Canai Curry Chicken and a dish of Penang Lobak. It was a shock to us about the generous portions of the dishes that we ordered. Curry flavour of the chicken was good and there were three large pieces of tenderised chicken there. There were plenty of starch noodles stir-fried with shrimps, eggs and chives and the flavour was wonderful. Penang Lobak was very crispy and we both like the dips.
Overall, dining experience is decent.

Re-explored this eatery last night since the first review nearly three years. Correct me if I am wrong, I think it has changed the management since I visited last time. Service was prompt and friendly. Just ordered two dishes to share with the hot Citroen Tea. Hot drinks came very fast with average standard. The first savoury dish came to the table was the K.L. Stirred fried Starch Pearl noodles. It was quite hot with heaps of chili heat. Loved the taste and the texture of the starch noodles. Penang Prawn noodles soup was slightly under the par. Not because of the prawns or BBQ pork but due to the soup base, which was as good as the restaurant's competitor, particularly the Mama Malaya along Logan Road near Underwood. In addition, the chilli hot of this soup covered the taste of all the other ingredients. Have rooms to be improved. Having said that food production is still consistent and it is not a bad choice for a quick dinner.

When you drive in Market Square Food precinct from McCullough Street, you will see how busy this café is. A lot of people will reckon tihs cafe is one of the Hong Kong Style cafe, indeed, it is a Malaysian Street-food style cafe but adopting some Hong Kong Style cafe's specific drinks. The menu offers a lot of specific Malaysian street-food such as Dry Curry Egg Noodles, Roti Canai, "Bah Kut Teh","Char Keow Teow" "Har Mee", Nasi Goreng........ so rich and so tasty. No wonder they branch out so fast and have quite a few siblings restaurants in Brisbane.

New Review
After having a somewhat ‘meh’ experience last time, we returned but with company who had been a few times before. I ordered the Seafood Laksa and BF ordered the Cha Kway Teow.

Both dishes eclipsed the previous ones by leaps and bounds. The laksa was abundant in fish/squid/okra and there were plenty of juicy scallops nestled in there. The broth was flavourful and the eggplant and tofu absorbed it really well. There was so much in the bowl and I found it really hard to finish it.

I’d definitely recommend going with someone that has been before. However, as the dish prices are mostly under $15 and the serving size is colossal - it’s really hard to go wrong if you’re just looking for a cheap and filling meal.

Old Review:
One of my goals in life is to go to every single restaurant at Market Square Sunnybank, so with that in mind, I decided that Malaya Corner was my next target. (Kind of funny that I have been going to Market Square for years but have never been to one of its most popular restaurants!!)

We arrived at the restaurant on a Monday night and found that most of the tables were full. We had completely underestimated MC’s popularity, so we quickly sat down at a table and proceeded to order the Sambal Fried Rice, the Singapore Noodles and the Salt & Pepper Calamari.

The food took about 15/20 minutes but it was worth the wait. We liked the fried rice but wished it had been in a smaller serving or offered as an entree style dish as the plate was massive. I’d recommend that large groups order this, but people eating as singles/couples shouldn’t order this in conjunction with lots of other dishes. Way too filling.

The Salt & Pepper Calamari was incredibly tender, but also really well seasoned and very crispy. (Note: we had forgotten to take a picture of the plate when it first arrived. The serving size is a lot bigger.)

I enjoyed the Singapore Noodles, but think they are better at Little Singapore. The dish was tasty but was a little bit too sweet, more lemon wedges would have helped break up the overall flavour.

I really liked my experience at Malaya Corner, it was quite inexpensive for 3 large dishes (and some leftovers) and they also provided complimentary tea and water. The atmosphere was extremely family friendly and the waitstaff seemed nice. I would recommend eating here but next time, I would get there between 2:30-5:30 as the menu shows a really inexpensive tea set. Enjoy 😊

Meals full of flavour and generous servings! We ordered the salt and pepper calamari, laksa and Char Kway Teow. The salt and pepper calamari was crispy, tasty and calamari cooked well. The laksa broth had a great combination of spicy/coconut cream. The char kway teow was simply delicious -one of the best I have tried. All in all we would happily return!

Much nicer ambience after the interior revamp. It just helped to enhance the experience. Nevertheless, the flavours of their food have always been consistent. Enjoyed their nasi lemak, dried noodles with meat ( loved the flavour and al dente noodle, plus it came with chinese vege, kudos!), curry laksa....

Always a favourite. Large menu but food is quite tasty and plenty for 2 servings. Laksa and curries always a good option here and the sambal is spicy (ask them for extra if you’re a spice fan).

Quite authentic Malaysian cuisine! Had the combination wet hor-fun in egg sauce and loved it! Worth to keep in mind that the serving sizes are quite large. I went on a weekend and they had run out of cendol which was very disappointing. Very busy place, took some time to get service. Also does takeaways.

Today was another trip to sunnybank, we felt like having some rice and noodles. After a long delay by renovations we decided to stop by at Malaya Corner. With a new car park with plenty of parking and wider spaces it was great to get in and out. Walking past the window the restaurant was already busy, which is a good sign.

Plenty of tables and space for prams, family friendly. Seated quickly and menus given, so much to choose from the menu and pictures help greatly. The drinks we got were of the larger servings, hk style coffee and tea and iced tea ribena.

After ordering our mains, I got the nasi lemak, and wife got a noodle dish, pan fried ho fun. The dishes came out pretty quickly within 10 mins of ordering. My dish was suppose to be spicy, it was not spicy but did pack plenty of flavour. 2 curries, egg, pickled salad, all went well together. Wife enjoyed her did also. The dishes I would have to say are quit large, for the price you get a meal for 2.

Service was average, sit down, order meal, they bring it out and you pay.

Would go back again, plenty of other items on the menu to try.

Walking in at 4.50pm on the weekend, we decide to try their Afternoon Tea Sets (2.30-5.30pm). There are 18 choices priced from $7.90-$10.90 and they come with a complimentary hot/cold drink. We place our orders for 3 Tea Sets and one of our friends decide to order from the ala carte menu. While waiting for our meals we sip on the complimentary tea, hot soy drinks and iced lemon tea.

After 5pm we notice a crowd of diners arriving to take advantage of the Tea Set Specials before 5.30pm. Our meals arrive after 15 minutes. The Char Kueh Teow ($9.90) looks and smells so good. The serve is quite generous and is delicious.
Rating: 4.0/5.0

The Wonton Egg Noodles ($8.90) looks better than it tastes. The serving is quite large but the wontons, Egg Noodles and broth is only average.
Rating: 3.5/5.0

Ordering off the ala carte menu, the Vegetarian Laksa ($12.90) is a humongous serve. The curry coconut broth is delicious, the vegetarian ingredients are generous and the serving is enough for two.
Rating: 4.0/5.0

The food here is generally good with big serves and prices are reasonable. We will be back!

A place to get decent singaporean/Malaysian food. We ordered the Nasi lemak, char kway Teow and Penang char Kway Teow and they were all tasty. However, there wasn't much difference in the taste of the Penang char Kway Teow and regular Chae Kway Teow. I wouldn't mind coming back again, but only if I have a really bad craving for singaporean/Malaysian cuisine.

Had a fantastic meal here one Friday - we ordered Roti Canai (with extra roti aka "pancakes" as written on the menu) and Ipoh Chicken Soup. The roti canai was so yummy we ordered another to take home! It's not the most flattering of establishments (cans of Condensed Milk as styling?) but it's cheap and delicious street food in a packed place. Another bonus of this joint? Those three magical letters - BYO. Will definitely be returning.

Walking into Malaya Corner on a Friday evening, with all the hustle and bustle as diners come and go. You could be mistaken that the food will be average, as they move dishes out quickly and efficiently from the kitchen. Well it is the opposite, I could not really give a negative on any of the 5 dishes our group ordered. All were good size and well presented, but the flavours were so traditional, felt like we were sitting in Penang !. The Roti cani, salt and pepper calamari and the Singapore noodles all top notch. So if you are wandering through the Sunnybank village trying to choose a place to eat, you will not be disappointed by the dishes that are served up here.

As a Malaysian, I must say this was probably the best we had here in Brisbane. The nasi lemak may not look like much but it was reminisce of my childhood and the dry curry mee was great (with the exception of the char siew which tasted weird). The neighbouring table had bah kut teh and it smelled heavenly. Not sure about the taste. Definitely coming back here for some more Malaysian food when I feel like it!

Authentic Malaysian style cuisine with great value for money. Have been coming to this restaurant for years now and still swear by the chicken rice which personally I think is the best I've tried in Brisbane. The wet hor fun is a large portion as with the other foods. It is definitely a family favourite to eat at in the hub - market square.

I love Malay Corner. Myself and my family come here quite often, we order large quantities of delicious food, and it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg. We have been coming here once ever 2/3 weeks for a long time. Our favourite dishes are the salty fish and chicken fried rice, and the salt n pepper calamari! they Dry curry Mee is frequently ordered, and then just whatever we feel like on the night. The only downside is that parking can sometimes be difficult as Market Square gets so busy on a friday and saturday night

We felt lucky to get a table at Malaya Corner at 6pm on a public holiday. Shorty after we arrived the queue outside the door began to grow and by the time we left there were dozens of people waiting for seats.

Our experience at Malaya Corner was very positive - good food, good service and a family friendly environment.

We ordered the Roti Canai and Chicken Curry with two extra roti pancakes, the Vegetarian Curry Puffs and the Penang Lobak.

The drinks were served quickly, followed shortly by the Roti Canai and Chicken Curry. The Chicken Curry was massive and included two whole chicken legs and a thigh with about 3 cups of curry. The roti and curry were both good - good flavor and texture- but neither were as good as PappaRich in the CBD.

I was then advised that they were out of Penang Lobak, but seeing the size of the Chicken Curry I decided against ordering anything else.

The Vegetarian Curry Puffs arrived piping hot, and although small, they were very visually appealing. The flavor and texture was good, but not great.

I would Rate the Roti, Chicken Curry and Curry Puffs all at 3.5. The service was a 4, but I'm weighting the overall based on the food.

Would happily return to explore more of their extensive menu.

If I remember correctly, out of the Oriental Group chain of restaurants, Malaya Corner was the original and longest standing. Being located at Market Square, it always has a constant stream of customers all hours of the day, even between regular meal times, due to its highly popular afternoon tea specials, which is why we headed there when I managed to get off work reasonably early last week.

Malaya Corner serves good tasting food with great value for money. The portion size is humongous. I would say each dish feeds two or almost. Tonight we went with 3 dishes of Malaysian Staple, Char Kuay Teaw, Nasi Goreng, and Lobak and came home with 2 full containers of leftover destined to be our late night supper. The bill came in just over $30.

I love Char Kuay Teaw or stir fried flat rice noodle. Normally I would just dropped into Papparich in the CBD for a quick one ($14.90). But I found my new favourite here at Malaya Corner. At $12.90, you get double the amount of food on the plate with few extra ingredients such as squid and Chinese sausage, Papparich doesn't add those onto their plate. Nothing was wrong with the taste either. I thought it was rather hearty and delicious. Nasi Goreng aka Malaysian Fried Rice which has a hint of curry was big enough to feed two. Lobak was also double the size of those at Little Singapore chain.

Malaya Corner was always packed full with hungry diners every time we were at Market square and that speaks a lot about the restaurant. It took us years before we tried this great find for the first time. They totally deserve their place amongst our favourite eateries. If you are hungry and value for money is what you're after, try this place and you won't be disappointed.

**and yes I said 'Value for money' twice in one review.**

A good place for Malaysian food. The price is okay as well.

If you love spicy food and that's one of the reasons of visit, don't be in illusion with spicy mark on the menu. Get it made in double spicy and you are good to do. On the other hand if you don't want spicy just a fan of different flavors, don't be scared of spicy mark on the menu cause it's not. I've been going to Malaya Corner Sunnybank for some time. Each time I visit the food remains the same. There is nothing fancy, no "wow" factor just simple Malaysian/Chinese cuisine and the odd "Nyonya" style dish thrown in.

Malaya Corner is a very noisy restaurant and there is certainly no effort made to create anything other than a food hall style restaurant, plastic table cloths, help yourself plastic water glasses and basic interior. This is not to say that it doesn't have a certain charm to it but  don't go along thinking there is any kind of soft ambient experience. The prices are reasonable, food presentation is very average and the service is simple but I will point out that the food is pretty good. It's a good staple Malaysian - Chinese restaurant.

Visited here for dinner. We didn’t book but there were free tables when we arrived. On the menu, some dishes have the option to be spicy or not. For our dinner we had both spicy and non-spicy meals.

All meals tasted great and everybody was pleased with them. My favourite dish was the special fried rice. I was quite impressed with it’s rich flavours. A favourite from the group was the Seafood Mixed which was nicely spiced.

For dessert, I must say that the Ice Kachang was the best dessert I’ve tasted in a while and I recommend you try it too. It has a strong sweetness and was quite enjoyable. The red bean frappe was also sweet and tasted a bit milky too. Overall friendly and good customer service from staff members. If you love spicy meals, definitely visit this restaurant.

List of Meals:
-Special fried rice “Yeung Chow Style”
-Char Keow Teow mixed noodle (spicy)
-Ho fun
-Penang Lobak (spicy)
-Seafood Mixed (spicy)
-Hainan chicken rice (spicy)

Dessert:
-Red bean frappe
-Lychee Frappe

Getting here was something of a curveball for one night; there were already plans for a booking via Dimmi, but an error came up which meant it would not be the 50% deal and it was somewhere a bit pricey, and a long way out. My dining buddy was not willing to go there because of a combination of those reasons. Therefore, that booking was cancelled and it was back to the drawing board.

Long story short, it led us to Sunnybank. And this was the chosen place. It is good for what it is. The interior is probably aiming for a dining hall or food court feel, which they have managed to create well. Far from being big on atmosphere, this might be a bit rowdy for some people and it is not an ideal date place - just go as friends.

Service is done by the table, and it is at the lower end of the quality in Market Square. They have a great deal of ethic as always, aren't really personable, quick and always on their feet. It is no-nonsense and gets business out of the way quickly.

To say the menu is generous is one way to describe it. While it is nowhere near as extensive as many of its other neighbours tend to be, the range is generous: using the lot of countries from South-East Asia, it has Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian influences. "Chef's Specials", starting off the menu, showcases the best classic dishes from the region, and other meals are divided into "rice" and "noodles" also showing some of the known favourites. In addition, that is not accounting for various special orders off the menu in which advertisements are plastered around the eatery. Then there is the drinks menu which is extensive, having all kinds of frappes, milk teas and pearl drinks among others. It may vary from outlet to outlet. Whatever you have though, the portions are generous.

It is big enough to render me indecisive, which is not all that much of a feat. However, the indecisiveness was short-lived when my dining buddy pointed out a limited time special. They had one dare where the customer could order their chicken laksa at heats hotter than the usual spice range on the menu. The spicier they opted for, the less they (money) would have to pay less. One to four chilies, medium to something insane - a master level. Going crazy as I am, I jumped right for the absolute spiciest they offered. With no questions asked, the order was taken and I prepped myself for one of the hottest things that I have ever had. We'll get to that a bit later.

My dining buddy went for one guaranteed hit: beef rendang. Truth be told, this was not one of the better version I have had. It was mixed a bit too much with desiccated coconut that I tasted it in about half of the meal when nicking a bite. I will concede, the beef was flavoursome, very tender

On top of that, both of us got an entree each. After being impressed with it previously, my dining buddy was keen on some deep fried tofu. So he got an order of it, and it was merely okay. Portion size was generous, and definitely was in favour for number to dollars ratio. The tofu was soft and well cooked, but a bit on the bland side. Something needed to be done with the tofu beforehand, such as a marinade perhaps.

The entree that I chose was Penang Lobak, essentially minced pork in a deep fried roll, with a special sauce on the side. This was better by a bit of a margin. The amount of pork inside the rolls was generous and thick, plus the pastry had gone really hard and buttery. It was almost difficult to pick up with the chopsticks. Inside it, the meat was marinaded well with a special sauce.

So, with the spice challenge. Members of the family - on both sides - might have been in England and the Gold Coast, but with technology these days the news of my insanity was well known quickly. Taking on that dare, there were the taunts about....... let's get to the food shall we?

This is not as bad as it would be made out to be. It required a bit of strategy, putting the noodles, meat and everything into another bowl and drinking the broth like miso soup. It was the right mix of spicy, fiery and creamy with the coconut milk base. Getting that out of the way, it was then the mixture inside - there was a huge lot of noodles, plenty of chicken breast, eggplant and sprouts. Real chili was mixed throughout, and it makes such as difference. I might have needed time out at one point, but I was not allowing this beast to defeat me.

Knowing this, and I would have gotten it anyways, that meant having to get the right drink for an accompaniment. That was one other than a Hong Kong style coffee milk tea - iced. This meal was one that needed a refill of it. Not that I am complaining, since I have really come to enjoy the Hong Kong take on iced coffee - it is simple in design, and gets that lovely sweetness from just the condensed milk. Again, generous portion and it was creamy and cold. A wonderful drink, in other words.

So, with the spice challenge I am ready to keep on leveling up to hotter spices. That is something that will be consistent. It almost winded me, but I have had worse and will face spicier in the following months. I am looking forward to it. Any suggestions will be welcomed - bring it on!

But with Malaya Corner as its own place? It is not too bad, good for what it is. For a substantially sized meal, it is worthy for an affordable and quick meal. However, with all that competition right on its doorstep this falls behind a long way in comparison, not quite getting that authentic edge needed to thrive in Market Square - at least in my eyes.

One of my most frequented restaurants. If you're looking for a cheap big meal with no frills but tastes amazing, this is the place to go.

It's normally quite busy but food is always served quite quickly. Very casual dining in a bustling food precint. Absolutely fantastic!

Good food. Have frequent this joint for many years now, food is good and price have slightly increased over the years. Laksa use to be quite ok but now not so good anymore because too much noodle and not enough laksa gravy. And sometimes the gravy is very thin. I had curry noodle the other day and was quite disappointed as the curry was very thin on the noodle.Yes I have to agree the decor is very bad but if you are hungry and want to eat Asian, it is still not a bad feed.

The food here is great, very tasty. We recommend the Vegetarian Curry Puffs for an entree and their best dishes are Nasi Lemak and Roti Canai. They also make excellent Green Tea Frappes. We have both dined in and had takeaway and the service is friendly and prompt. We are and will be regulars here.

Best Asian in Aus!. This is the best Asian food I have eaten in Australia!!! Not the cleanest, best service or presentation but most meals are around $10 so what do you want for that price. I love the food and I have been back 3 times in the last 2 weeks so I rate it highly and will be back.

One of the better restaurants in the heart of Sunnybank. Succulent flavours in most dishes with great value. Been a returning customer since it first opened, I like this place (not market square parking though), I rate it 7/10

Love this place!. Hands down the best salt fish fried rice we've had, ever. Also the chicken with chilli, curry leaves and a salty bean paste is phenomenal. (can't remember the name of it)
We eat here regularly and have never ever been disappointed!

My brothers love the generously proportions of the dishes and my parents loved the drinks. I couldn't get over how good the white tea was :) the service was fast so that was also pleasant - definitely coming back

Awesome vegetarian Laksa. The decor is terrible. So terrible you can pretend it's hipster cool. Service is fast and friendly. But the food was fantastic and amazingly cheap. Will be back.

Such delicious food, authentic flavours with a kick, desert was very yummy , food was served promptly, staff friendly, it was rather busy for a mid morning. We will be back next time to try your other dishes, very generous portions too.

Rating on Google is not so good but my friend highly recommended to me so we went to have a try. The Hainanese chicken rice was good. The chicken was probably cooked and taste fresh and firm. The set came with Chinese long boil watercress soup. It tasted like my mother’s pot of soup. The Char Kway Teow and CharSiu mixed noodles were both good too.

Malaya Corner is one of the best Malaysian restaurants in Brisbane! This cosy local restaurant has the most delicious food. Whether you are dining or having takeaway this place is the place to go! The staff there are friendly and welcoming! The seafood laska, hor-fun and hainan chicken rice are some of my favourite dishes.

My first visit since new management. Hainanese Chicken Rice ($14.80) tasted good. Special mention for the Super tasty bone broth cum veg soup. Ginger sauce was good but the chilli could have been better. Some dark soy could finish the look and taste of the real thing, just like in Asia. 4 star just for this. I will review again if the other dishes give the same satisfaction level. Payment by visa incur a 1% surcharge. Most businesses do not charge that.

Man! I love this restaurant! I used to dine out in this place long before COVID struck. My mother doesn't like spicy food these days, so this place would have been able to make some of the food a little less spicy. I appreciate their flexibility, and I can't wait to order takeaway again next time.

Good portions Food freshly made. Tasty and presentation is 5 star. Price was a bit much. But enjoyable atmosphere. The sticky coconut rice is delicious. Well worth trying this place out for the first time.
