Review Atticus Finch Cafe - Brisbane

Jenn CruznWant
Quaint little cafe on Latrobe terrace with a great outdoor area. Food was fantastic and the staff were friendly and helpful. Service was great too however due to covid we’re guessing the table service and the clearing away of glasses/plate staff was limited. I would definitely go again because the food was fabulous and the outdoor ambiance was welcoming and relaxing.

Gorgeous backyard, relax and very nice coffee. Healthy and so tasty food with lovely presentation. Thanks for the hospitality, sure we will back! 😋

Not sure if they were having an off day today but the service was extremely slow. When the food finally arrived the coffee was great so lots of praise for that. The Reuben sandwich was also very tasty but the big disappointment was the rustic fries. They just appeared to be packet fries. If the. Menu had just said fries then that would have been our expectations but rustic you sort of expect something special

Lovely cafe in Paddington. Have visited several times and the food has always been great. Enjoyed their special of French toast today, highly recommend! Coffee consistently good and staff are always friendly! ☺️

Good cafe in Paddington, great home vibe, nice gardens outside, pet friendly. Food is great, good serving size, the handmade hashbrowns are a must try! 👍

We decided to have an early (around 8.30am) breakfast at Sassafras on a Sunday morning. The facade of the venue as well as the inside decor is very homely, and feels as though you were walking through your neighbour’s house, the indoor seating looked a bit cramped and loud so we opted for backyard seating which was very comfortable and quiet. We were greeted swiftly upon arrival, given seating options as well as food and drinks menus. We ordered drinks first, from a menu with a lot of variety, including juices, smoothies, shakes, non-caffeinated hot drinks and classic coffee options. We picked the cold drip, shot of espresso, and a turmeric latte. All drinks came relatively quickly and were very well made, the cold drip was not bitter, had great flavour, and the turmeric latte had a good amount of spices and heat. Shortly before receiving our drinks we had ordered our food, the menu selection for breakfast was very appetising, and there was a wide range of options of varying dietary restrictions. We noticed there was a specials’ board hanging on the wall, though unfortunately that was not brought to our attention by our server. After much deliberation we finally decided to share two plates: the corn fritters with extra smoked mushrooms and the ricotta hotcakes, with extra banana and maple syrup. The food arrived promptly and piping hot. Everything looked house-made and of great quality, well presented with a good amount on each plate. The corn fritters were quenelled then deep fried, which was a great twist on the usual pancake-style pan fried version, and tasted great, all the flavours paired together on the plate worked impeccably well together. The ricotta hot cakes were some of the best executed we have had in the past, a very rich dish with ricotta throughout the batter mix, the honey butter which topped it all off complemented it perfectly and made for a very filling and gourmand breakfast. By the time we were ready to leave, the venue had become bustling with customers and we were thankful to have come in early. We had an overall great experience at Sassafras, and we would highly recommend it for a delicious breakfast, though be sure to get in early or book your table to avoid crowds on a weekend. We had really good brunch. Service and food was so good. Definitely come back w my doggie. My doggie enjoyed doggie ice cream which was really bit expensive but worth it for ur cute dog 😄 I love environment and atmosphere! Interior was green and nature style. Sooo good!

Service was super friendly, unfortunately we came at a crowded time so food took a little while to arrive. However the food was delicious and fruit juices were made fresh. Eggs bennys were pipping hot and soba salad was refreshing and a generous portion.

The Coffee here is very good. Beautifully presented, my Cafe Latte is intense, full flavoured and smooth. Thank you Barista Mundie for my great coffee and for your friendly welcome. Phuong Tran and I will return for lunch soon.

This was a very cute cafe! The cafe had a lot of open seating, and plenty of spaces to choose from (cute pillows!). We ordered:
Slow cooked lentils and beans ($16.5)
The popular Sticky black rice with tapioca ($15)
Drinks ☕️
Ice latte
Soy chai (they accidentally made a soy flatwhite but changed straight away)
All the food was very nice, with a substantial portion in regard to the cost. Not too pricey compared to other brunch places. Overall, cute!

Seen on the menu written “order at the counter”, alright we had no problem with that. Just wondered why it’s so not nice of staff not to even smile or say hello when noticing customers sitting in and looking around. Though our soy latte and iced latte were nice and smooth, we didn’t find the menu interesting and service didn’t actually exist. The 4 star rating was really for the coffee.

Great coffee, tasty and interesting menu. Cheery staff, comfortable and welcoming surrounding.
Great spot for a Sunday afternoon drink. A must try.

We love Atticus! Great coffee, good fare and super friendly service with a chilled, locals vibe. Bring your pooch - everyone else does here! Quite the Paddo scene - part of the fabric now. Awesome spot.

Sunday morning it is - For many, weekends are the staple days for an early breaky/brunch catch up. Knowing it will be difficult to find a parking space, I decided to stick to the cafes near work.

Located on the side street of Latrobe Terrace is Atticus Finch Cafe. An establishment that introduces a variety of healthy breakfast feeds like Black Sticky Rice, Mixed Grain Porridge and Fruity Patootie Muesli just to name a few. You'll also find many of their dishes with the included ingredients: honey, poached pear, berry compotes or yoghurts. For the healthy peeps, this will probably be the place for you. However, if you're seeking for the traditional bacon and eggs breaky, this may not be the destination that'll satisfy your needs ☝🏻

Stated on their Zomato page, there were several popular dishes. Warm Malted Semolina and Rhubarb sounded interesting and was one of them, so I settled for that and a Flat White coffee.

Coffee: Consisted strong nutty flavours as well as bitterness and served only lukewarm. Unfortunately, it wasn't to my liking.

Food: Served with Warm Malted Semolina, Rhubarb, Poached Pear, Pistachios, Yoghurt, Honey and Cardamom. The malted semolina was gooey and held a smooth yet sticky texture. The yoghurt was light offering subtle vanilla flavours. The rhubarb gave out a fruity and tangy twist to the dish. On top, was 3 slices of soft poached pear that preserved sweetness and juiciness. Lastly, were the crushed pistachios, which I would've appreciated more if they were on the crunchier side 🙌🏻

Considering the dish contained three sweet mixes, it was surprising that everything balanced out well and nothing was overpowering 👌🏻

Good Stuff: Atticus Finch Cafe trades till 8pm on Friday-Sunday serving up a variety of nice alcoholic beverages including cocktails, beers, reds and whites. They don't only look out for the early bunch, they got your back for the nights too!

Wonderful friendly place - kind of like hanging out at your crazy dog loving friends place.

Happy hour drinks are a bargain and the brunch menu is super tasty and generally quite healthy.

Uber dog friendly and there are lots of dogs every time. Stay away if you don't like dogs otherwise enjoy the cuddles!

A poor choice on my behalf this morning seeing I really wanted bacon, but I didn't realize the menu here wouldn't have that breakfast staple. The miso salmon salad was enjoyable and the cherry soda tasty, but I really wanted a caramel latte (which they don't have). Maybe one to retry in the future

Great place, I love to start my mornings with. Really friendly and helpful staff. I love most of the dishes from this place but fav has to be sticky rice.
Julie
Best hot chocolate I've had in a long time. One of those ones that tastes like real melted chocolate. And you can choose either dark, milk or white choc. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Nice seating options too :)

Such a fantastic little joint that not only offers something a little different for brekkie but also at an amazing price! You can easily field a brekkie for two people for under $30 (inc coffee). You cannot go past the black sticky rice to kick start your morning, but maybe don't mix it with the amazing ginger latte, whilst an amazing morning bevy, it's a bit on the sweet side. Trust me, you want to try this place and when you do you will keep coming back for more! Dog friendly and great for people watching!

Went here about a month ago and loved it. Group of us ordered the toasted sandwiches and flavoured soda waters and it was all delicious. I like the casual outdoor seating and that its dog friendly. We ordered coffee afterwards and it was one of the best flat whites I've had in Brisbane, I was impressed that it was so strong without having to order an additional shot.

Atticus Finch just may not be for me, the menu didn't excite me and I had to settle for something I didn't really want. The coffee wasn't very good (burnt and bitter) and my dish was just 'ok'. The Cafe is dog friendly though!

Quaint but squashy. The location is not bad for watching the passing Paddington traffic quietly, apart from the dogs barking at each other, but based on the many water bowls this is part of the attraction for some - coffee was terrible and the green tea weak and with 2 young fellows serving and only about 10 patrons we did not get asked once if we wanted a refill - not that I would get one. The special breakfast mince was exceptional, however.

Came here for lunch over Summer, when most of the cafes were running shorter hours. We managed to get in before the kitchen closed. I had the grilled vegetable toastie, which nicely melted the flavours of the grilled vegies and bocconini into the bread. Simple, yet moreish and satisfying. The other people at my table had the salads, which each had beautiful dressing and a great combination of ingredients, with no over-dominating flavours.

We also ordered the sodas, which were interesting. My cucumber and basil tasted like a bloody mary. The galangal was quite spicy, the lemon myrtle not too sickeningly sweet. We'll definetely come back as they've obviously got a good team in the kitchen who know how to do simple yet delicious cafe food.

The only weird thing was the counter service. Because of the summer hours, it closed at 2pm. When people came into the cafe around 2pm, the morose waitress didn't really tell them that they were closed or it was counter service, so the customers just sat down at the tables waiting to be served. One older lady had a massive fit when she learnt she could only order coffee. Perhaps their signage could be a bit bigger so its clearer.

Always great. Great coffee, dont expect run of the mill menu but tastes great. Warning: they encourage dog owners so theres always lots of pooches around.
The Food Oracle
I really like the unusual menu here and the unusual set up of the cafe. I had the slow cooked beans and lentils. It was also unusual, but that is why I ordered it! The egg was cooked perfectly, the pulses could have done with more seasoning, but once you got into it the flavours started coming out. I would be keen to try Atticus Finch again, but a different dish.

I can't even explain why it's taken me so long to get to Atticus Finch, being close in Paddington and a favourite of one of my regular partners in breakfasting crime, Y. Although funnily enough, I can count the number of times I've had breakfast in Paddington on one hand since moving nearby so maybe it's a case of too convenient? There's also that small issue of Paddington hills and not wanting to ride up them...

Little chilled cafe in Paddington. Great place to go for a morning coffee and with only a simple menu, still manages to impress. The lentil and bean purée with a poached egg was great and the breakfast bruschetta was nice as well.

nice place. nice people. nice food. had a great breakfast here and will be back. it all looks very pretty as well.

I had breakfast with my partner here and I had the broad beans dish which was quite nice and healthy which is always a plus for brekkies. My partner had the savoury mince dish and thought it was alright but would always prefer a massive chunk of bacon. The serving sizes are semi reasonable and the prices are okay.

Drinks always good. Have only ever ordered drinks here - have always been very nice.
Child friendly with a bit of space for prams. Colouring books and some toys for kids as well.

Very busy. Fight for a table to get dry, tasteless food.

Great Breakfast!. Really tasty breakfast, I ordered the avocado salsa on toast & it was delish!

Really Nice Spot. In an area that is choc full of cafes AF stands out loud and proud with a well thought out menu and good coffee.
If you're feeling a bit Gregory Peck-ish..this is for you!

Below average customer service, wouldn't recommend. When we arrived here we weren't aware it was counter service so we hesitantly stood & waited for a few minutes, in which an overly unhappy looking woman - who obviously worked there - walked past without giving us any direction of menus or ordering, but instead proceeded to look at us like we both had a third eye. After finally establishing on our own that it was counter service, we grabbed menus and sat down, only to be considerable underwhelmed with the food choices on the menu. I ordered the "Amazing Toast", which when arrived was simply berry compote, thinly sliced sourdough and butter, chopped up into tiny tiny little cubes. I'm not sure whether this is an attempt to be creative or different, but it was just down right annoying. The total amount of all the tiny sized cubes ended being no where near enough to cover even one piece of toast. I really struggled to understand how this toast is labelled "Amazing" when it is simply borderline average, t o a s t.
Coffee, however, was pretty great. If the customer service had been better I would consider going back just for that. Staff need to considerably re-think their attitudes. When ordering, not one person seemed the slightest bit wanting to be there, with no smiles to be seen. Nor were they helpful with menu choices, just blatantly rude and made me feel as I though I was wasting their time. I'm not sure whether they are trying to attempt the "uber cool" staff vibe, but if so; it's not working. I have been to cafes & restaurants in which the staff aren't overly friendly (although more-so than here) -but what they lack in attitude, they make up for in customer service and attentiveness, unlike here. Won't be back

Simple fare, cute decor and great location watching people stroll by. Coffee not amazing- ordered a mocha, definitely was not. Nothing fancy food wise, pleasant- wouldn't rush back.
Daly.josh
Coffee good, bruschetta not so much. Latte was quite good, odd interpretation of a bruschetta, had too much feta, a range of lightly fried vegetables, eggplant, capsicum, no real flavor of a classic balsamic tomato onio bruschetta, below average bruschetta

Sad to see the barista use Hershey's chocolate topping in a mocha, when their menu offers 'Heirloom' hot chocolate. For $4.50 this was rather disappointing.

Loved it!. Enjoyed our breakfast here today very much. The semolina and rhubarb special and the ginger lattes were especially good. Lovely sunny spot on the deck and even a biscuit for our pooch :) Coffee was excellent too..looking forward to our next visit...

Slightly disappointed, not a great menu selection for breakfast aside from toast or toasties. Got the glass noodle potato frittata which was soggy. However my friend had a bacon egg toasties which she thought was delicious! Maybe a bad choice on my behalf

Atticus Finch gets a good verdict. Atticus Finch didn't do so well in the book, but this cafe is no reflection of the sad tale by Harper Lee. I had black sticky rice with a flat white. I will just say this;

I have lived in Paddington for 21 years and it's the best coffee experience I've had in Paddo.

And the breakfast I had was spectacularly weird, wonderful but above all delicious.

Excellent, fast service and very reasonably priced.

I would recommend Atticus Finch to anyone.

Joe

Diana. WOW! WOW! or bow wow, pooch was happy & so were we. The breakfast here was a standout for myself.& partner. The Japanese miso salmon just melt in the mouth delish, laced with that yummy pickled ginger & sesame, bang on flavour big time. Partner had the lamb sausages with mashed beans, once again flavour flavour big time. Simple food done well always the best. Coffee was also spot on rich & smooth with those aromatic caramel tones. So with the pooch happily chomping on her biscuit (complimentary from the courteous staff) we all left feeling happy on a sunny winter morning

Great place! Really enjoyable food and atmosphere, friendly and very funny staff and there's bottomless coffeeee!!!

Atticus Finch has been beckoning me to try it ever since it opened a few months ago. I would often jog past its door on my morning run and smell a whole lot of amazingness coming out of the kitchen, but for some reason I just never made it inside…until recently.

Let me set the scene for you. It was a blistering hot Saturday morning in Brisbane – you know the weekend where SEQ temperatures closely resembled the depths of hell? Yup, that weekend.

My girlfriend and I decided to ignore the brutal weather and have a girly catch up over breakfast. She lives at one end of Paddington and I at the other so we happily met halfway in-between at Atticus Finch.

A classic Queenslander patio with a creative Mockingbird mural to match, gives off a modern Australian yet retro feel. To start, one homemade pomegranate soda please...

Doggys are welcome on the triangular shaped deck out the front, and if they are lucky they will even get a free puppy cookie to munch on. We can vouch that the Italian greyhound perched nearby us thoroughly enjoyed hers. Now onto the people food.

I was really, really distracted by Atticus Finch’s menu. That, and like I said, grades 8 through 12 are a blur. Atticus Finch do an all-day breakfast, bless them, as well as sandwiches, salads, and sweets. I ordered the Black sticky rice (warm black sticky rice with banana, tapioca, and coconut, $12). D got one of the toasties (honey roasted bacon, egg, onion jam, swiss cheese, and aioli, $10). We grabb
