I was craving a really good Chinese meal and was absolutely delighted to see that this place did Crispy Peking Duck.
We went for one of their specials - 10 pancakes of Peking Duck and duck with noodles. Both dishes were excellent.
There were lots of other dishes that I wanted to try, just a shame that we are only here a few days.
The service was quick considering how busy the restaurant was and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful.
Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and hope to be able to fit in another visit before we leave.
Came here on Saturday evening, just because I was craving for Singapore Chilli Crab. The crab was not on the season, so there were only two of it. So, I bought the two of them and requested for the sauce to be not spicy.
The dish turned out to be huge. I am very happy that the restaurant managed to make the sauce to be not spicy at all, yet still looks appetizing. The sauce was perfect when eaten with the bread (they gave out complimentary bread when you order the crab) or with plain with rice.
Overall, I really enjoyed the crab, as well as the prompt service. I would like to come back and enjoy the crab again in the future!
Went here for a family dinner (party of five) on a Public Holiday. We arrived for an early-ish dinner, knowing the possibility of a rush of customers later in the evening.
We ordered to share:
- Mee Goreng: well-cooked noodles, with a good coating of sticky moreish sauce.
- Nasi Lemak Campur: well-seasoned, tender fragrant beef.
- Special Fried Rice: very well-done fried rice with Chinese sausage and prawns.
- Chicken Laksa: reasonably nice broth; the noodles were a little out-of-proportion to the vegetables and chicken.
- Cai Xian Tofu: deliciously salty (maybe a little to salty) and textural.
- Chinese Broccoli (Kai Lan) Made in Two Ways: a nice fried shredded version and a standard steamed and wok-tossed portion.
Very friendly and efficient service. Plenty of indoor seating available. A casual, typical Asian restaurant-type ambience. Reasonable prices.
Overall, a good Malaysian and Chinese restaurant in Brisbane's chinatown.
Authentic Malaysian food
My husband and I are regulars at the Cannon Hill outlet of this restaurant simply because it's close to home and the food is so good. This time we went to the Fortitude Valley outlet because it was more accessible to our friends on the Northside and the food was a hit with everyone. The noodles, rice, fish, prawns, chicken, beef and vegetable dishes we ordered were all delicious. A large tour group arrived not long after us but even though the staff were run off their feet, our meals came out very quickly. The staff were attentive especially the lady manager who really looked after us right from the start. It was very reasonably priced and BYO was a bonus.
Good services and nice place
I love this place, especially the Laksa seafood and the butter prawns. I will recommend these dishes and I will be back for sure
Nice restaurant.
They serve wine as well.
They serve nice mixed fried rice with an omelette on top. Noodles and starters are fabulous.staff is good and service is pleasant.
I recommend the Nasi gorang dish.
Food was great. Fabulous service. Especially loved the kangkung belacan & chicken curry. Our 7 year old daughter devoured the plate of roast duck. Will definitely patronize this restaurant again when we return to Brissie.
Fantastic restaurant!, food was delicious and service was impeccable, I would recommend the Chilli Mud Crab and the satay chicken skewers with the roti entree, all of the food was beautifully presented. Best spot to go for world-class malaysian chinese cuisine! 6/5
Attentive service, feels like a family atmosphere. The lunch specials are good value. We had the Nasi Lemak and Char Kwey Tieu. Really nice tasting though my coconut rice was a little on the harder side.
High chair was provided.
Would come again for the good value lunch specials.
Best laksa I have had in Brisbane. I walked past and noticed the lunch special chicken laksa. What a great surprise. Full of chicken noodles veggies tofu. Perfect mix of spice and coconut. Will be coming back.
Tried the chili mud crab and it was one of the best I've ever had! it was lip smackingly good! The environment's pretty cozy and comfortable. Customer service was exceptional and i have to mention the staffs were super friendly. Would definitely return with friends and family. highly recommended!
This is definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurant i have come across in Brisbane! the food was very authentic as well as the prices are very reasonable. Likewise, could not have been happier and satisfied as the customer service was excellent. great experience overall and would definitely return again.
Ps: The nasi lemak and yam basket were really good!
As a true Penangnite, Satay Ria does have the authentic flavours of Malaysia food. I ordered a bowl of chicken curry laksa dish and let's just say that they were generous with the size of their portions. Bigger than my head generous! The price was extremely reasonable, and the staff were friendly. Definitely coming back for more!!!!!!!
I have a pretty good feel for Malaysian cuisine and in particular Nyonya cuisine. My go-to is always Nasi Lemak, in fact, I think you can almost judge an entire restaurant based on their Nasi Lemak. I'd say Satay Ria do a good job. The rice tastes "fatty" as it should, the anchovies were properly dried and snap crisp which is the only way, the Rendang was rich, well cooked and full of that "Malay" x-factor taste (meaning the right combination of spices) and most of all nice and tender. The deep fried egg...delicious and the the accompanying sambal has that belacan taste and fragrance that makes your wince with joy. Lastly, the pickles were OK...not sour enough to my liking but that is just a quirk I have.
I'd recommend Satay Ria on the Nasi Lemak alone however, the service was very good which makes it a great experience.
Such good food at a good price! Had the chicken roti curry and tried the honey chicken and mongolian lamb; and curry puff entree - was all delicious. Friendly staff, good spot, will definitely go again.
Ranga With An Appetite
+4
The choice of both beef and chicken in the Nasi Lemak was a good option, beef was a little dry but the chicken was nice and the flavour of the curry was nice. Coconut rice was a little salty to be picky but overall I really liked it.
My favourite place for take away. Ordered the salty fish rice, crispy beef, satay chicken and prawn and bacon. Yum. The prawn with bacon was delicious,
Also love their char kway teow.
Friendly and fast service.
Visit this restaurant for authentic, out-of-this-world delicious chicken satay skewers! The closest I've had in this city to the famed Mamak satay down south. Had a variety of dishes but particularly loved the chilli crab, roast pork, yam combination nest, which wasn't too spicy and had a beautiful balance of sweet and savoury flavours. Highly recommended!
Staff were attentive and very friendly. Food was delicious and portions were generous. Easy to access location and reasonably comforting restaurant.
Excellent Malaysian restaurant. I've been going here every fortnight for the last six months and the staff feel like old friends. Happy to recommend food and in fact last time we just asked the owner to pick something for us as we'd tried all our favourite Malaysian dishes and her choice was excellent. I've been eating Malaysian food for 40 years and visited Malaysia many times. This is authentic food like you would get in the markets in Malaysia. I've probably tried about 10 dishes now and haven't been disappointed yet. The roti canai is excellent as is the laksa, rendang and fried keow teow. Definitely worth trying if you like Malaysia or Chinese food that is tasty and good value.
Decided to get takeaways from Satay Ria for dinner. A menu was given as soon as we asked. We ordered special fried rice and char (fried) kway teow. I really like the customer service. I didn’t expect the staff to offer us a jug of water and glasses while we were waiting for our food. I thought that was kind of them to do so. While waiting, it didn’t feel long before the food arrived. Once served, the char kway teow was tasty and the special fried rice tasted average. To conclude, we had a nice dinner.
Ordered beef rendang with roti canai and Singapore noodles. The roti was the best I've ever eaten; so light and flaky - not doughy or heavy at all. The beef rendang was equally delicious - flavour was great and the beef was tender. The Singapore noodles were fresh and slightly different to others I've eaten - no overwhelming curry powder flavour. Really tasty. The service was friendly and prompt :)
For today's lunch I and my mom tried their Hokkien Noodles and their Nasi Lemak. The portion for both of my food were so huge! I can't finished my hokkien noodles, neither my mom for her nasi lemak. Both of my food were delicious.
For the hokkien noodles, I can ordered it with no pork and I can got so many variants of seafood that so big in my plate. And for nasi lemak, I can get not only egg and 2 chickens but also tempeh. The price was not too expensive too. I can eat some of their food just only 10 dollar for lunch.
Their service was so nice. I like it! And the restaurant was so clean.
One of the only more authentic Malaysian restaurants left in China town area. Being a Malaysian myself, the food is comparable to real Malaysian food and comes the closest I've eaten in Australia. Only problem with satay ria is that on a busy Friday or Saturday night, their staff just can't handle the pressure / amount of orders and I've had to wait up to an hour for some orders, which is ridiculous. So during the week, absolutely fine, but on a busy weekend, unless you are peckish but not hungry and ready to wait, I'd avoid
Update: have been back several times and the service is always outstanding but last night was gold. Mabel? (We were very wined) was a champion. We got there pretty early, were fed and watered but they didn't mind us sitting around and even getting more byo wine. They were funny and the food (I had chicken curry and bacon prawns again) was awesome. My favourite byo in the valley
The curries and rotis were tasty as was the satay chicken. Bacon wrapped, battered prawns. The crispy duck rolls went Dow well. Delicious, bang for buck and great service.
Monday night rarely sees us out and about, but having to pick up the kids from the airport we decided to head out for a bite to eat before our 9pm drive-by. Being a Monday night and knowing a lot of places aren't open, Zomato was a godsend to find somewhere to eat with ease and the new "draw a circle" facility was fantastic (a little bit addicted to that fabulousness). The Valley was my destination - on the way to the airport - but still a reasonable choice of places to eat.
Anyway up popped Satay Ria and then I realised that I had bookmarked the Cannon Hill outlet years ago but never quite made it there - we just don't get to Cannon Hill. So discovering it was now also in the Valley - win!
We were greeted with a smile by the friendliest waitress and a table was easily found in a half full restaurant (surprisingly so for a Monday night). The menu was a mix of asian - malaysian standards and a few more unusual options and an interesting array of chinese dishes too. We went with a bit of a mixed bag - roti canai, stir fried fish fillets with sambal (malaysian) and a kung po chicken (a nod to our love of szechuan food), all washed down with a really decent bottle of pinot grigio.
The wine was out quickly - honestly the service we received from everyone was wonderful, warm and friendly. The meals took a little longer than I expected, but certainly not problematic - in fact I quite liked that I knew this meant everything was cooked freshly. When the meals did arrive - wow! The roti canai was crispy and delicious and the curry sauce was really delicious. The fish was also delicious - generous serving of the most tender and perfectly cooked fish fillets with a mildly spicy sambal. But the winner was the kung po chicken, which we both agreed was probably the best we ever had. Just fantastic.
The the icing on the cake was the fortune cookies at the end - so many places have stopped the fortune cookies - and they are always good fun. We had a great laugh with our waiter about what our fortunes meant - just finished off a wonderful meal with fabulous service really well.
We will definately be back - now I know how good the food is I NEED to try their laksa - and our friendly waitress (we had a waitress and waiter) who I am going to go out on a limb and say was possibly the owners wife - said it was one of their specialities. So that's definately going to happen in the near future.
Thanks Satay Ria - what a surprisingly great way to turn a bit of a chore into a really pleasant evening.
Satay Ria in the Valley is excellent and gets a positive one from me. It's our new go-to Valley restaurant. For dinner, the ambiance is busy and chatty. For lunch it's business-like and efficient which is just how things need to be, right?! The lunch menu has the classics, fresh and quickly served. Yesterday, three of us ate very well indeed at lunch, including beers, for $20 a head. For dinner, treat your kids to a cultural experience and order the chilli crab...it's fantastic!! We've been three times and the service has always been charming and efficient. BUT! Make sure you book online because they are getting busy...and deservedly so!!
Love this place. Always a go to for a boozy Asian BYO option. The hainan chicken rice is a killer dish. The ginger and spices are great and the broth is delicious. Roti curry is another favourite - a great buttery roti with a delicious curry - go for the beef. It was lovely and tender. Penang Lobak is another must have - it's like a pork sausage roll on crack. Great dipping sauce. Steamed greens with shrimp paste are a good add on - not so great on their own. Good service. Usually pretty empty so you've got some space.
After the success at Cannon Hill, the owner (Raymond) shows his ambitious to branch out and set another Satay Ria at Fortitude Valley. Dined in and observed his movement. Unfortunately, the Chinatown branch lacked of appropriate manager working at the front section to look after diners. There were full of novice workers. However, this problem does not exist for a long time, Raymond has improved it by appointing appropriate staff and also adopts the strategy in Cannon Hill to extend the existing dining area. It looks a lot better now. Congratulations!
Pretty Good. While the laksa doesn't compete with others around town, I can't say anything bad about this place. The meals are fairly tasty, well-priced and the service is prompt and friendly. Not much to say about atmosphere, but it is clean and they seemed capable of serving large tables swiftly.
Wow! Great Restaurant. One of the best Malaysian and Chinese cuisine in Brisbane. The food is authentic and delicious, amazing service and friendly staff. More importantly consistency - the quality of food is always good every time we go. Highly recommended for Chinese and Malaysian food lovers.
5 stars. This restaurant is perfectly Malaysian. The best curry puffs in Brisbane, if not Australia. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Recommend this place for a delicious, relaxed meal. 10/10
Good location & authentic. Good location, good service & authentic Malaysian food!
Diana. I have to say we enjoyed the food apart from the calamari entree which was a little chewy. We also had a coupon for dinner so got the house wine which was not bad. I had the fish dish which assume was basa, but it went well with the sauce, nice spicy & full of flavour. My partner had the beef dish which came sizzling to the table on a hot griddle. Pretty good value we thought, oh forgot the spring rolls they were large & there was four of them (Noted a previous reviewer only got two so they must have been reading Urbanspoon!) Service was great as well
Very enjoyable. I went here with a couple of friends on a Friday night. Between us, we had a seafood laksa, the hainan chicken and a chicken roti chanai. All meals were excellent and very reasonably priced (below $15). Staff were very friendly with good service, and the owner came out for a chat. An extra bonus is that this restaurant is open until 1am on weekends. Definitely a new favourite!
Nice Place (Great Value on Groupon (. Got the $29 Groupon for two people and it did not disappoint. We tried the spring rolls, squid, fish in assam and the kung po chicken which was all good.
The listed ordinary price (according to Groupon) would keep me away from this place most of the time. However the lovely atmosphere and friendly staff might sway me from time to time.
I live in the valley and have always chosen to skip this place due to the ominous lack of patrons. As of tonight, I have a new favourite in Chinatown! The food is absolutely delicious! I tried the San choi bow, the beef rendang and a side of belacan kangkong and couldn't be happier I took a risk on this place. If you're in Chinatown, do try this place. I liked it... and I'm not easily pleased.
Enjoyable Evening. I purchased the $29 deal from Groupon to try out this highly rep restaurant, and it was actually quite worth the value for 2 people.
We were welcome warmly by the staffs. The restaurant looks very stylish as an Asian restaurant. The clean and neat environment has set a very strong first impression for us.
As entrees, the deep friend squid and spring rolls were very fresh and yummy.
Then, the mains - Fish with Assam sauce and Kung Po chicken were very promising as well. Although MSG is always expected, the dishes both have its complexity to make the food stands out from the norm.
That's right not to mention that the house white wine was very nice and went really well with the food.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening, and I believe I am more than happy to come back to try out something else.

Very nice food and lovely place. The service is fast and very friendly. The price is good for the quality and location. I tried the chili mud crab and the prawn noodles. No doubt, I will come back.
Sooo good. Open late. As usual my partner and I asked for the waitress' favourite dishes. We got the yam basket, coconut prawns, and some sort of green spinach dish with sambal sauce. Apparently the sambal sauce is homemade- deliciousness!
Excellent food quality, customer service and good value for money. We will certainly return!
