Review Trattoria Italiana - Brisbane

What a shame such a nice looking restaurant and we were met with a very ugly attitude. The restaurant was open and There were no patrons dining at 12:30pm on Saturday, and when we enquired about a table for 7, we were refused because the waitress said she was the only wait staff member working and she was too busy. (No patrons, go figure). I did see the chef at the back of the restaurant. My brother-in-law also asked a few minutes later and was also refused. Then she blurted “ do you want a table or not”. She was incredibly rude. Won’t try going there anymore. We ended up at another restaurant up the street who were fantastic.

Warm with braziers & plastic blinds to keep the cold out. Service was really helpful. I had difficulty deciding what to eat & the female serving us asked a few questions, then recommended the marinara for my taste. It was delicious! Hubby loved his tortellini also! Thanks!

Absolutely superb food. Risotto and pasta were both amazing. Texture, flavour, portion size all spot on. Cannot fault it at all. And the Home-made Tiramisu dessert was the best I've ever had, period. We just went out for a simple lunch. Ended up having the best meal of the year so far! Thanks!

Tasty sauces but unfortunately my pasta was rather under al dente. Gnocchi was lovely.

Where do l start? The decor was lovely and the food was quite tasty (when we finally got some) but lm afraid that is about it. The service was atrocious. They had 4 in the kitchen and just one waitress serving a full house. I understand that she was busy but the nasty attitude and snide comments were uncalled for. You were afraid to ask for a drink even. When she was taking our food order she told us to hurry up as "she was busy and had things to do!" We ordered garlic bread and bruchetta but after our main meal was plonked down on our table the chef came over and bluntly said "we're out of bread so your not getting your garlic bread or bruchetta" We booked for 6.30 so it's not like it was a late sitting. We were going to order dessert but decided to just leave as it was turning out to be an unpleasant evening. We don't think we will be back, which is a shame as it is local and convenient but until they either hire extra wait staff or the waitress (who l think is the owner) changes her attitude we will go elsewhere.

Before we arrived checked web to see if it was BYO… it was @$10 per bottle. A bit expensive, but decided still to go, - but we’re were actually charged $60 corkage for 3 bottles.. not one bottle did they open, not one drink poured, provided wine glasses, when we asked for champagne glasses…CORKAGE- a charge for SERVING wine etc bought in by customer- Food very nice, but very expensive for tiny serves.. $36 for a small bowl of gnocchi.. although tasty, was still hungry. Won’t go back again..service ridiculously slow, one waitress (owner) only who was unable to cope, we had to clear our own tables, as the plates just sat once finished for 30 minutes - should maybe put on staff, given how much you charge- apparently according to other reviews she always does it all… so it wasn’t that they got caught out on a busy night, she chooses to have customers wait than have sufficient staff… once again considering the price would have made for a better experience..when bought up the difference in the byo costs, the abrupt aggressive response was- “we are having trouble with our web pages,” as if that was my fault… sorry we would have made different arrangements had we had known the truth.. you web problem is not my issue but still charged a rediculous amount, and all they did was put 4 glasses on a table and incorrect ones at that - with no service, which is what corkage charge is for. Won’t go back, and will tell others who in turn tell others… good food lousy customer experience

Good customer service and wonderful food! Congratulations to the Chef!

Brilliant food. Great menu choices. Cater for gluten free. Lovely ambience. Fantastic old fashioned professional service.

RACECOURSE ROAD'S LYGON STREET: $18.50 Eggplant Parmigiana (traditional and perfect), Tuscan sangiovese $9 (glass) and very nice, Moretti beer presented with a big cold glass $8.50, and I'm satisfied and very pleased. A light breeze under the canvas and a place inside with a lot of style like Lygon Street Carlton's best, complete with photos from Italy. Not a huge meal but for $18.50 and at lunch time, I had more than I needed and felt comfortable. I felt like I was sitting in Tiamo in Carlton. Great service of course, and a real Italian business. You could bring a girlfriend here and she'd be saying later: Let's go back to Trattoria Italiana. Great place. I'll be back, or we'll be back. J

This is my new favourite restaurant. The food is absolutely great but the personal service from people who obviously love their cuisine, culture and community is even better. You have to dine here! We had a table of eight and everyone experienced one of the best meals they've had in a long time.

I’ve come here for takeaway orders twice now and both times I’ve had some delicious carbonara pasta. The first time I also bought a salad that was okay and the second some garlic bread that was pretty good too.

The restaurant itself is on a busy eatery street in Hamilton that is packed full of flavour. However it’s easy to find a park on the street and then head into the restaurant. There’s plenty of seating inside and out and there was live music on the night I popped in to grab dinner.

It’s clear to see the servers work hard and the kitchen is efficient as the food is always quick and full of flavour. I’d love to come dine in at this restaurant soon and taste more of their menu but any place that has a delicious carbonara is excellent for me.

Very disappointing experience. Have been coming to this place for a number of years but never again. Was there last Saturday with family for wife’s birthday. After ordering and waiting 1hr we discovered after complaining that our meals in fact hadn’t been logged with the kitchen. No apology only that we’ll take it off he bill - are you kidding!. Walked out and will never be back which is a shame because we had been going there for quite a while.

The Hammers fav Italian in the area , food and service are generally top notch here and the addition of a solo guitarist on a Friday or Saturday night will make your evening , will post some pics from my next venture here as it won’t be too long till they’re back from their break

Staff are friendly and the exterior front seating is lovely. Very different atmosphere inside to outside. Food is never bad but is better sometimes than others.

This place is another shining example of why you should not always rely on reviews to decide on a restaurant. There's a collection of circumstantial negative reviews which is unfortunate considering it may deter people from trying Trattoria Italiana in the first place. Definitely try this place out for yourself because we're very glad we did. Great location, great ambiance, excellent food and service (shout out to Chloe). Not once did we have to call or wait for service, everything was done with a smile and with haste. Waiting time for our food and beverages were pretty standard for a restaurant, the food however, was not. It was amazing! The only negative criticism I could give is the chairs were slightly uncomfortable (for me, not for everyone) and the table could have been a tad bigger for the four of us, but we managed quite easily. Try this place out, it's worth it. Honestly, what do you have to lose?

Tuesday night and it was very quiet in the restaurant. Staff were good as was the food. Pasta was excellent. Clean fresh and authentic Italian The stuffed mushroom was ok but nothing to get to excited about. Overall I was impressed and happy with the food and service although it was a Tuesday

Pulled the wrong rein going to this restaurant. The service was worse than abysmal, customers trying unsuccessfully to attract the too few untrained wait staffs attention or wandering around looking for menus, drinks or orders themselves. Premises are tired, Meals Ok but very slow taking well over an hour giving us plenty of time to watch this disaster unfold around us and what's more, the management couldn't care less. Very, very disappointing, for what should have been an enjoyable night, was ruined. Never to return, not ever.

Worst restaurant experience my family has ever had. Seated at a table and were left on our own for over 10 minutes before we had to attract attention and request menus and water. We waited over an hour for our meals and had the entertainment of watching a waitress on her first day be berated and fired (or sent home) in plain view of customers. It is clear this restaurant has a high staff turnover as she was not the only new starter on a busy Saturday night. We watched as multiple customers tried and failed to attract attention, and as a few approached the unhelpful manager at the bar in exasperation (or dehydration). No complaints about the meals, once they finally turned up. When payment came we approached the manager to explain that the dreadful service on a special occasion was unacceptable, however we were provided with no solution and just a poor attitude, excuses of a busy evening and no hint of remorse. There are plenty of other quality Italian restaurant's in the Ascot area without having to put up this service. STAY AWAY.

I ordered takeaway tonight on way home from my son's rugby training as was late. Paid high price of nearly $75.00 for 3 dishes - lasagna, risotto seafood and spaghetti bolognaise. Will never order takeaway from this restaurant again or eat in because of the following. I also wonder if the takeaway menu is the same price as eat in as there is only one menu with prices I paid shown on this restaurant's website. Shouldn't takeaway prices be less than eat in as no plates etc to wash and no table service??
The lasagna was like slop in a plastic container and not much flavour, the lasagna sheets weren't even in one piece, majority broken up like overcooked. On opening the container I was wondering which one was the lasagna that I ordered as none looked like it. The risotto seafood had 3 mussels, one small scallop and a couple of small prawns. My son said the mussels tasted funny and he didn't eat them and I ended up throwing out 90% of what was on his plate. The spaghetti bolognaise looked ok but a bit dry/lacking sauce.
On top of the above, the small plastic takeaway containers approx 6cm deep and 17 x 11cm barely had enough of each dish to go about 2-3cm up the side of the container. I'd ordered 3 dishes as thought $75.00 should get me enough food for 3 people. No where near it especially with the risotto not being eaten.
On calling the restaurant to explain the issues, they wanted to argue that they were in the right and have portion control. Ended up taking back the 3 dishes including what was left of the risotto (as my son's rejected food was in the bin). Manager gave a refund of $25.00, however kept the containers of food I returned so therefore it cost me $50.00 for no dinner. I had to then come home and start cooking food for my son at 9.30pm at night when he has to be up tomorrow for sport at 6am. Very dissatisfactory and dissappointing. Very little or no customer service.

Went here for dinner last night with my partner and daughter who was celebrating her 21st birthday. We were quite disappointed in our meals that we received. The service was ok, but just that. When we asked for a desert we were told that what was available was in the display cabinet, so nothing freshly made just commercial cakes etc. Not what I would expect from a traditional high end Italian restaurant. It was a shame as the restaurant has a nice feel to it and is in a lovely location. Wont be returning here unfortunatly.
Evelyn Ke
The food is average, but their service is the worst in town, the waitress can't understand English well and when ask them to order one more main, they just ignore me and give me a contemptuous look, bad experience

Amazing food! Some of the best Italian I've ever had. The atmosphere is very romantic and sophisticated. I had the pesto gnocchi and it was amazing. Very generous serve, couldn't even finish it!

worst coffee... done in a rush, with overheated milk.
Very expensive in return for the service and good provided.
They should not offer take-away coffee is not willing to do it properly.

Disappointing ...... Disappointing. We were a party of eleven, took 40 mins to get a drink and another 30 for our meals to arrive with one arriving so late we had all nearly finished eating. Food was a let down my seafood Ravioli was more Entree size, two mussel shells but only one mussel which still had the beard in. Some small pieces of bone from the Ravioli which was supposedly Lobster? The pasta was chewy. Similar disappointment from everyone at the table about the food and the service. Staff appeared indifferent when shown the beard and bone from the Seafood Ravioli. Definitely not worth the money. Once was enough, won't be going back which is a shame because the ambience of the place was good with live music too.

Bellissimo! We could not fault anything about either our food or the service tonight. Proper table cloths and a restaurant that is quiet enough to hold a conversation and just the right amount of light were all good starts. We listened to the daily specials - I could have listened to the waitress all night with her lovely Italian accent. Our bruschetta arrived and was piled high with fresh tomato and basil. The serving size was generous and we were glad we had shared it between two. Luckily there was a proper break between courses. The main meals all arrived together. My barramundi was larger than I expected due to the mountain of mashed potato. This was real mashed potato - not the silky fine dining stuff. The spinach was perfectly sautéed and the barramundi was delicious covered with capers. My dining partners were happy with their spaghetti Bolgnese and the seafood risotto was described as the best ever. Apparently the kids meatballs lacked flavour and the spaghetti with chilli was a bit too authentic for the unaccustomed Aussie who simply chose the wrong meal. The plates were not taken away until everyone was finished - sometimes it's the little things that matter. There was simply no room for dessert and we watched in awe as other tables received huge pieces of cake. Live music played from 7pm and was quiet and unobtrusive. Great night.

Came with a small group of ladies and their Bubs. I get that prams can be bulky and annoying, but we were made to feel very unwelcome by the wait staff who I assume was the manager. And we arrived at a non busy time when the restaurant was otherwise empty. They should've been appreciative for the business! We ordered coffees and desserts which were adequate but quite expensive. Staff were unhelpful and need a huge attitude shift, will not return again

4 day old Banoffee pie not made on the premises. Dinner started out with a lovely Cauliflower soup and Eggplant parmigiana. The eggplant was cooked beautifully with a rich tomato sauce and just the right amount of cheese. We ordered Tiramisu and Banoffee pie for dessert. The Tiramisu was clearly home made, soaking in delicious coffee and fresh cream. The Banoffee pie was an embarrassment to be served. Firstly, a restaurant or proud chef should not be ordering in a tiny dessert from a bakery and serving it up as a $12 restaurant dessert! The pastry was so hard to break in to and after one bite, it was obvious that it wasn't made on the premises nor was it fresh. It was bland, no fresh cream and no fresh banana. We let the waitstaff know and they took $6 off the $12 dessert. They said it had a shelf life of 3 days and that they ordered it in on Tuesday. We ate here on Friday! I think for a bland, out of date dessert, the least they could have done was not charged us at all for it ..... Then I wouldn't have had to write this review!

Last time I visited this restaurant the barramundi was very tasteless. Tonight I had osso bucco. It wad obviously reheated and not hot. The sauce and mash were bland. There was one shank which after removing fat rendered 6 bits. Upon commenting i was offered another shank at the cost of another meal. I will not be returning.

Terrible Experience. Just came home from this restaurant, I had the Veal porcini. The vegetables were good but hard to bugger up steamed vegies, the veal, particularly the Sauce was inedible. It left a bad taste in my mouth for a good 10 mins.
The staff asked how our meals were and I let them know politely. My comments were passed on to the manager who immediately went on the offensive. She asked me if I had ever eaten porcini mushrooms before and made every excuse why it couldn't be the restaurants fault . She handled it very badly and was very argumentative.
I will never go back to this restaurant because of the food, the service (50 mins wait from ordering ) and the extremely poor management.

Our group of 5 ladies are regulars at this restaurant but last night we were celebrating one of the ladies birthday and it was a disaster. We were ignored the whole night and as we were about to walk out we finally were approached and asked to order. Then came all the excuses for the poor service and told of all the items they had run out of.
We will never return...... far too expensive for what you get.....had better at the local pub for a third of the price.

Big Breakfast. Had both breakfast & dinner within the week. Breakfast portions are big! and come with all the standard traditional accompaniments neither could be finished. Dinner menu is on the heavy side for my personal taste as far as Italian goes and the freshness & flavours were ok. I would return for a traditional style of breakfast.

We had a disappointing experience. The staff seemed friendly until they asked for feedback on the entree, which had nice flavors but the seafood produce was poor quality and extremely small. We were astounded to be told that this was the fault of the suppliers. This feedback rapidly escalated to an embarrassing scene with the manager which could easily have been avoided. She did a terrible job in handling the situation and we left before having our mains. The chef eventually got involved. The manager was arrogant, obnoxious and rude. Quite a shame really.

Yummy breakfast, big breakfast was huge, mostly shared between two as my breakfast partners eyes were bigger than their appetite. Coffee was nice. Everything was good value- big orders of bacon which is a nice change from other places (hint hint at their neighbours with lots of choices but little quantity). Eggs benedict & ham was served with small side salad which was unexpected but lovely dressing on it, would likely ask for the wilted spinach instead/as well because it was so good. Service was good, friendly waitress, manager on the till was italian and chatted a bit. (Ps we love the Heinz baked beans lol feels like home). New fav breakfast place when we have friends over. Comfortable atmosphere, very laid back.
Nik
I liked it and the service was fine. We had seafood ravioli and salmon Gorgonzola gnocchi. The pasta itself wasn't the best, but the sauce with the ravioli was fantastic. The prices weren't that bad either.

Fabulous experience. I enjoyed a dinner here tonight with friends. I was very impressed with the service and the food. I ordered Barramundi, and it was perfectly cooked. Served on a bed of mashed potato, and herb sauce. I t melted in my mouth. My friend had the pork belly and absolutely loved that as well.

Would not hesitate in going there again!

Truly disappointing . Boa.... Truly disappointing .

Boarding school food ....

Wait staff are pleasant enough, apologetic even....

dominos pizza serves more authentic Italian ...

Great service, great food. Nothing increases the quality of a restaurant like knowledgable staff! Was very impressed to have the service of a waiter who not only read us all of the specials for the evening, but understood their content and could recommend options and wine to suit.
Meal was extremely enjoyable, beautiful fresh pasta. Left with a satisfaction I expect after an Italian feast!
Will be heading back soon.

A regular no longer. Have been a regular since this place opened, for dinners & breakfasts alike. Have always enjoyed the simple breakfast menu – until yesterday. The meal I like to order I always ask for a side of smoked Salmon, last week 7th October I had noticed to portion had decreased fairly considerably but gave them the benefit of the doubt. My partner & I returned yesterday & again asked for smoked salmon on the side – this time we only received one slice of salmon, which would be ok if it weren’t $4 a pop! Very disappointed in what WAS our favourite restaurant, we will now go else ware for our Sunday breakfasts.
Enrique
Not for us again. We dined there on a Saturday. Many of the specials were off the menu by 7pm. We were not served one of our chosen mains, and the replacement chicken was very ordinary. Then, there's the $10 per bottle corkage for BYO.

A big let down. Went here tonight looking forward to a lovely evening.
Went in at lunch time to check out the menu and found a wonderful sounding special. Spoke to a waiter about it who raved about this item. Made a booking for 6.15 and also asked for a particular table. Duly arrived to find that table already occupied. Not a serious problem with that, although a comment or apology would have gone a long way to being excellent service.
Duly ordered our entree and two of the specials - my partner was also particularly keen on this item. The waitress serving us, also said how good this item was.
Within minutes she was back to advise that she had just been advised that that special was not available. Most unimpressed. Chose other mains and whilst they were good, have had equal or better at restaurants (one of which is in a small coastal town).

Whilst paying the bill we mentioned our dissatisfaction with the fact that (a) the specialty had gone off the menu so early in the evening and (b) the fact that it still had not been removed from the blackboard menu. Comments from what I presume was the manager attested to these things happen in the food industry all the time and they can't just scrub items off the menu as they may be able to put them back on later in the night. What is wrong with a simple "N/A" which can be easily added/removed.

It feels like false advertising - a very good item being offered to entice the customers in and then they can't have it. If an item is so popular, you would think more than adequate supplies thereof would be available. We feel as though we have been conned and will not be dining there again.

A good restaurant is not just about the food. It's a total package - service, attitude of staff and the food. Lacking tonight.

Stopped in for a Sunday breaky solid feed but nothing special. Get rid of the heins baked beans and McCain hash browns. Pleasant service and coffee but the menu needs a few more options next door had about 3000 different breakfasts is rather check that out next time

Bad service, not happy.. Food was good, service was terrible. Was sat at a dirty table. Waitor was rude.

Maybe it's because we had casual clothes on instead of a button up shirt. Nevertheless, just because we don't fit into the stereotypical demographic for a high income earner in the area, doesn't mean we don't have money to spend. That said, wont be spending it here ever again.
Orange Blossom Special
Magnifico!. To date, this is the best Italian cuisine I've had - and I've eaten a lot of Italian food! Authentically made, our dishes were delizioso!!

It was a sunny Saturday, when my partner and I headed to Ascot for an Italian lunch. We had a 2-for-1 voucher for Trattoria Italiana and as usual, we were excited to try a new Italian restaurant. We were not disappointed!

It was a couple of steps up to get onto the covered patio, so unfortunately this location is not wheelchair accessible. There are tables on the sidewalk, but I believe you still have to come inside to let the staff know you are there.

The décor was lovely with comfortable wicker tables and chairs. The walls were an orangey terracotta colour and it just felt like we were away on a holiday. My partner did notice as part of the foundation, a tactile portrait of 'Colossus of Rhodes;. In that this was Greek, we asked our waiter about it and apparently this had been a location of a Greek restaurant at one time.

Our waiter had very pleasant mannerisms and was wonderful about checking on how we were doing but without being intrusive.

Looking over the menu we noticed that a lot of the meals were quite reasonable in cost. Panninis ranged from $12.90-14.90 and pasta ranged from about $18.90-24.90.

There were so many tempting choices on the menu but finally I decided on the Fettuccini Boscaiola ($19.50) which contained bacon, mushrooms and shallots in a creamy sauce and my partner ordered the Fettuccini alla Sarde ($21.50) that had anchovies, tomatoes, pine nuts, raisins and a touch of chili in a white wine sauce.

While we were waiting for our food, we could smell the delicious aroma from the table beside us. Not only could we smell the garlic, but we could smell the olive oil! Fantastically strong!

The woman from the table on our other side made quite a few "um", yum-type noises on her first bite. With all of this going on around us, I could barely wait for our meals!

With its comfortable relaxed and slow pace, I could hardly contain myself when we saw our waiter arrive with our meals! The first thing that hit me was the tantalizing aroma! The portions were a generous size and were topped off with fresh ground pepper and parmesan added by the waiter to your liking.

Mouth watering, I took my first bite! I believe I made the same noises of enjoyment as heard before! It was so heavenly! The bacon was in thicker pieces, leading me to believe that it was most likely back bacon. Tremendous flavour and saltiness! The mushrooms and shallots enhanced the dish which was all snuggled in nicely with a rich creamy sauce. Absolutely beautiful! If I could, I would eat this every day!!

My partner's meal had a lot of interesting ingredients which all combined wonderfully in its white wine sauce. There were many complex layers of flavours and textures yet all complimenting each other to make a strikingly flavourful dish! My partner also thought this was one of the best Italian restaurants we had ever been to!!

I was almost sad when our meals were done because they had been so enjoyable! But to finish off we both tried a Sicilian Almond Shortbread biscuit ($3). Not like your typical Scottish or Australian shortbread, this biscuit was a lot bigger and thicker, and could be polished off in 3-4 bites. Still quite dense to bite into, there was a lovely tart lemon taste to it and you could even taste some of the zest. Completed with a dusting of icing sugar on the outside, this was a well-balanced cookie that was a nice way to finish off a big meal.

I am so impressed with Trattoria Italiana and their attention to quality! They also paid great attention to details like the décor and atmosphere so that while you're there, you can forget about everything else and just enjoy the moment. All your senses are being pampered to.

I would highly recommend this restaurant as overall it's a wonderful place to go! I could see my partner and I coming back for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries or whenever we need a bit of Italian in our lives!

Breakfast = Winner. Breakfast here is lovely and the prices are reasonable. Nice open plan front area, with small intimate indoors. the decor and the service is faultless with friendly and chatty wait staff. Only been here for breakfast so can't comment on lunch or dinner. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon kicked a goal and my wife was very happy with her scrambled eggs. 4/5

Good food but not worth the wait!. We dined here recently and although my meal, the Eye fillet was delicious (it could have been served with more sauce), we would be hesitant in going back. We were the first table there on the night but still waited 50 minutes for our mail meals to come out, which is far too long for me. My husband had the chicken cacciatore which he said was nice enough but the chicken was dry and the roast potatoes also dry, and coming from him that is pretty bad as he never complains. The cheapest glass of wine was $8.50 and the cheapest pot of beer, a light beer, was $6.50. The Decor and the music were lovely and the service was good but waiting that long for food that is on the higher priced side is not a winner in our eyes.
