Always great value here. Usually come here or get delivered and ask for extra spicy when i need my spicy cravings satisfied, which they usually oblige.
When my favourite Indian restaurant closed down I was so upset, until a friend of mine told me about Halims. The food here is AMAZING!
The decor is fairly average, but I always order takeaway so it doesn't bother me. But seriously this is the best place I have found with authentic tasting Indian food.
Visited this restaurant after lisening from a friend.
The place is located in Paddington, Brisbane.
Close to city . The restaurant serves nice Indian Food with nice and quick service .
We ordered Lamb Rogan Josh - RED curry with amazing aroma and taste . ( Must try )
Chicken Tikka masala - Average in taste, Similar taste to Butter chicken . May be they should change their gravy and work on it to give the best taste of Chicken tikka masala.
Garlic naan - Nice and quickly served hot and crispy.
Sweet lassi - Thick and tasty
Experience - Being a foodie i personally met the chef and asked him to make nice Rogan josh on which we appreciate his skills and taste .
Could rate them 5 but couldnot due to their ambience. Highly recommend to work on ambience . Tables are too close to eachother. Too crowed .
Main thing - Please provide a hand wash area or finger bowl . Highly recommend.
Rest all is amazing and worth coming here amd try their Dishes. Served Hot and spicy.
Good Luck Guys .
Absolutely amazing, authentic Indian food!! What a gem of a place :D Came back after 4 years and the quality was just as impeccable as always.
Highly recommend the goat biryani and the chilli chicken. The portions are very generous and we ended up with enough leftovers for another meal. LOVE this place!
Had their Palak Paneer via Ubereats, which comes with a generous serving of basmati rice. Palak Paneer is a spinach creamed curry with cottage cheese cubes - so incredibly scrummy, and I loved every ounce of it! Could be less saltier, but the rice balances out the flavours, so that's alright. Ordered their garlic naan as well, and boy oh boy was it delicious! One good note is their food arrived piping hot, which is a plus point drone me. Will be back to order their other curries and naans, that's for sure.
Have eaten here a number of times and we will continue to go back. Good quality Indian food at great prices. Friends and family have also been very impressed when we've taken them to this restaurant.
Great food. Indian ice cream was a highlight :) Decor is basic. Service good. Very busy when I went on Monday night which is a good sign. Good prices too.
Yum! We got our order via Uber eats and it was amazing! Butter Chicken, a Tikka Chicken and a Mango Chicken. Big chunks of juicy chicken and delicious sauce! The garlic cheese naan wasn't as cheesy as we'd hoped but was still soft and delicious all the same. Highly recommended, we'd order it again.
**small edit: would not recommend eating in at this restaurant as it's not a very pleasant dining experience, order it on Uber eats or Deliveroo and enjoy from the comfort of your home!
No pictures needed, just flavours. We had the "tourist package" of fish madras, butter chicken, garlic naan, rice and raita. The fish was out of this world and the usually common butter chicken was memorable. A slightly long wait but so worth it 😋
I've been ordering Halim's through uber eats. The curries are aromatic and flavorful, unlike a lot of the other vaguely scentless curries I commonly find elsewhere. They always arrive hot via uber eats. I managed to take photos today before diving straight in. The curry buffet spread in the photo includes vegetable dhal, eggplant curry, lamb biryani, palak paneer, and chicken dhal. I also received a small container of raita. Normally, each curry is accompanied by a container of rice. I just got 2 containers of rice with my 4 curries today. I've queried this with uber eats and hope to find out what the deal is soon.
We ordered Lamb Korma and some naan breads through Uber Eats delivery. Food arrived a lot quicker than estimated which was great!
We found the lamb korma to be on the salty side and less on the creamy side. That was a bit dissapointing. The naan breads are huge which is a plus. Overall when considering the good value, its OK indian, not the best I've had but OK and affordable.
A great night out. Polite and happy staff and great Indian food at a decent price. The Malai Kofta was especially good. I'd definitely recommend.
My only criticism is that the price is very slightly upmarket, you can definitely get cheaper Indian, yet the decor is slightly beneath this. A very mild criticism.
Where do I even begin? The service was great! The staff were friendly and very prompt. The food was just spectacular! We ordered the butter chicken, palak paneer and naan. The butter chicken was out of this world!!! I would come back again and again just for it. The palak paneer was pretty good, but it got outshone by the butter chicken. The naan looked a little greasy, but it didn't have a very oily aftertaste. The meals came with complimentary basmati rice as well, which was so fragrant and flavourful.
Update 02/11/16: we came back for tandoori chicken, garlic naan, butter chicken, samosas and a vegetable curry. The butter chicken and naan was just as amazing. The vegetable curry was pretty decent, and the tandoori chicken was a little too salty and on the average side. I would definitely come back again for the butter chicken and naan. We also ordered a lassi and mango lassi. The mango lassi was really good and the regular lassi paled in comparison. However, I would note that the lassis are an acquired taste.
I have been going to halims probably once a month for the last 5+ years and it just gets better every time, never walked away disappointed. They are very generous with the serves and they are very very cheap, normally 10-12 dollars a head. 5/5 because I've never been more satisfied over such a long period of time with any other restaurant. Would (and do) highly recommend!
The food at Halims is good and the aroma is mesmerizing. I tried the Rogan Josh which I can say is the best in Brisbane. The butter chicken is good (not the best but it did satiate my Indian taste buds).
The chilli chicken is passable. The samosas can be better. Overall I would visit this place again soon.
I love this place to bits. Sure it looks a little casual and the service is not fine dining quality but food never takes long and it is always the best. The curries have been, in my experience, unmatched by any other store/chain. Let me say this three times: THEIR NAAN IS INCREDIBLE AND ITS FRESH!!! I always get the garlic naan but the spinach and feta is also very good. If you're looking for good curry, save yourself looking any further!
Fantastic and affordable. The only thing that stops it from receiving 5 stars is that some of the menu items are touch and go, whereas those that are good are consistently fantastic! Recommend the chicken biryiani and the chilli paneer
Despite some service issues at Halims (forgotten/delayed orders), we had a delicious and satisfying dinner. The servings were so huge we had trouble walking back to the car. The butter chicken and naan were the standouts of the night. I would definitely not class this under 'clean eating' but for an indulgent dinner, this is high on my list.
Being Indian I'd never usually venture out to eat my own cuisine, however today we decided to try Halims. The set up looks it's best during the evening while it maintains a very relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly and helped as much as they could and the food was out very quickly. The food was flavorful and very authentic, my favorite was the tandoori naan, huge pieces of hot naan, was delicious. Portions were extremely generous and we had heaps of leftovers ! Overall awesome place and really good food
FOOD = 4.0
SERVICE =4.0
CONSISTENCY =4.0
One of the few places to offer good Indian food over so many years.
Indian food is hard to keep consistent with variance due to spices and how they interact with the weather, and then to be able to create consistent taste is even an greater challange. On the odd occasion, the tandoor chicken has been different, but overall good food.
The Reluctant Foodie
+4.5
I agree with Melisa Lewins , this place is as authentic as Indian food can get (I am from India so I think that's a fair statement). On my most recent outing, I tried the chicken biryani and at $17.50, its an absolute steal! The portions were so generous that my date and I had leftovers for the next day! ;)
I'd deduct one point for the ambiance, which is minimal to say the least. But with food this good, do I really care? Nope. And that's all for this review.
Good Indian food specially chilli chicken and butter chicken.
Not a big fan of their spinach naan but plain naan is great.
It's only cold if you go in winter.
Typical Indian style/design.
Satisfying ...
Best Indian food and I'm Indian, I would even say to my Indian mother that Halims is better than her cooking, it's that good!!!! Open a location in GC Halim, ur chili chicken is #1 in the world!!!
Best Indian in town!. Honestly not a bad word to say about this place. Super friendly staff, delicious and fragrant food, good prices and chilled out atmosphere. This is definitely our go to Indian restaurant - hands down.
One of the best in Brisbane!. The food was delicious, it's a huge serving and it's cheap for the quality and serving. It tastes fresh too unlike most Indian restaurants.
Deff recommend this place.
A true inspiration!. Not much more can be said about Halims that hasn’t already been said thousands of times over on food blogs and in Anthony Bourdain’s book, “An Indian Thanksgiving”. Yet, I could not help myself to speak the truth once more about Halim and his fine restaurant. Halims Indian Taj is comprised of a family of men, all named Halim, each with their own area of expertise. Hipster Halim is the finest cashier that a country of over 1.2 billion could produce. Junior Halim is a bus boy/waiter, and is said to have the ability to remember upwards of 62 orders at any one time... incredible. Now to the powerhouse that is Halim Senior, ‘the chosen one’,’ the king of curries’. Halim Senior carries the restaurant on his back with his proficiency in cooking only the finest curries, madras, and golden brown Naan-bread. The portions are large, like the heart of Halim, and will leave you with enough for a second meal. The price is low, like the quality of the competitors, and will leave your bank account unharmed. For the best quality and valuable Indian food in the southern hemisphere, I recommend you visit Halims Indian Taj... The truth has been spoken.
Cheap and delicious!. Very generous servings and fast service. I had the palak paneer which was very nice.
User reviews. Quite good. Meal was tasty however there was too much paneer in my dish... for my liking. More spinach/curry needed.
Place looks like indian and was full of indian which would suggest good indian??
Naan bread was delicious... best ive tasted in a long time. Soft and fluffy.
Fabulous value, tasty curries, nice staff. We couldn't believe how generous the servings are! Tasty curries and friendly, efficient staff. Nice atmosphere too. We'll be back!
Fantastic. The best Indian in Brisbane; try the Bombay Aloo and see for yourself. Generous takeaway servings which are easily enough for two people (and rice is included). Delicious naans and fantastic curries. This is one of my favourite Brisbane restaurants. I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Rosalie, and still try to make the trek often to eat here.
Great flavours. When you walk past this place all you can smell is those wonderful flavours of authentic food. All ways busy but still has good service.
Delectable. Great food, great service at a great price.
The food never disappoints here, and the portions are great for the price you pay. The staff are very friendly, to the point, where my Father visits most Tuesdays, and the Chef will come and greet him without fail.
Again because I frequent this restaurant frequently, I have tried almost every curry dish and I couldn't fault any of them.
I have found Tuesday evenings are slightly better than other nights. Also go for hot dishes, or if you're not into spice, stick with the medium, nonetheless, a great place to eat in or take away.
Yum!. Excellent food, amazing service, and very well priced. Can't wait to go back!
Great Indian food in brisbane! Don't understand where the bad reviews are coming from. Food and service was flawless! Loved it and will return :)
Great curry for Brisbane. I really enjoyed the curry here. I ordered a takeaway, Jalfrazi, Korma and Butter Chicken. All dishes were very tasty with plenty of depth of flavour.
I would say this is one of the best curries I've had in Brisbane. Would recommend. 8 out of 10.
Very good value for money.
Fabulous Indian Food. Well I'm not sure about the folk who don't like Halim's but perhaps they have had a bad experience or don't know good indian food. I lived in India for a number of years, and I am more than happy to claim that Halim's is probably the best Indian food in Brisbane (and I've tried a LOT of indian restaurants in our fair city).
First of all the sizings are generous - very generous. Three of us can eat for around $60 and still have enough left over to take home for the next day. But it's not just about the serving sizes - it's about the food. The butter chicken here is the most authentic butter chicken I've had outside of India (my favourite dish when I lived in India) - so many places here do it very tomato-based, but Halim's is superb. The lamb dopiazza is also divine and highly recommended - so very tasty. And don't get me started on how good the biryani is - whenever we eat here there is always lots of this going out to various tables and it really is good!!!
The naan is great, the raita is great - in fact every thing here on the menu is great. It is also service with a smile and we go so often, they pretty much know us now. I also love that I can always get a table - even on a busy night. Love Halims!
Love this place. Nice relaxed atmosphere. The curries are big servings compared to other indian restaurants which is great!! Really well priced too! The pakoras for entree are my favourite. I'll definitely be back. You won't leave here hungrey.
On our Saturday night visit our table of 4 enjoyed above average table service and great tasting food! It was a cold night and the wait staff were more than happy to make arrangements for us to sit indoors even as a walk in without a booking! The service was prompt the food was fresh and tasty and the Naan bread was the best I've had!!! We ordered the banquet for $23.50pp and there was plenty left over! Great Korma, Great People and I will return for the Naan!
Fantastic. As above! Evidence is the cricketer's pictures on the wall.
Always consistently great and very well priced. Try the butter chicken, it's 1 of the best!
Yum yum yum!! Great food. Great Flavours. Very authentic. Totally enjoyed Halim's.
Definitely one of the best Indian restaurant's in Brisbane when it comes to taste and value for money. The curries were fantastic as was the basmati biryani... Which is what I definitely recommend. Garlic nahn was fresh and loaded with garlic as it should be! Serving sizes are quite substantial and rice comes free with the curries!
Fantastic value for money. Not only is the food delicious, with big generous servings (rice included with currys, which should be standard everywhere!) and the tastiest entrees and naan breads, but the price is unbelievable for what you get.
The only place we now visit for our curry fix.
Amazing Food. Had a close friend recommend this restaurant several months ago and visited it shortly after.
The dishes were well prepared, very fresh and will always remain a favourite of mine.
Great Indian food. Food is very tasty and quite authentic. And unlike some of the other local indian restaurants, it tasted like it had been freshly prepared. Different dishes actually had a different curried flavour - like they should. The prices were reasonable and the customer service quite good. A little more lighting in the outside area would help. I miss the smokesboard that the old Halim's used to have.
Delicious curries at very reasonable prices.
Fantastic every time. Stop reading this an just go
Some like it hot. These guys can make a hot curry. I'm always impressed with the heat level of their curries and it always leaves me crying for mercy the following day.
Good stuff, and the spices they use are divine.
Gluten and dairy free (can be). Excellent food, prices and service. They cater for people who are both gluten and dairy free reliably and without hassle, very impressed.
Honestly - the BEST in Brisbane. My girlfriend and I have been coming to Halim's for as long as I can remember it being open. We drive across town to go there. Halim is a lovely man and a great cook! The food is always a high level of quality and its taste is consistent, which is more than can be said of many restaurants. Servings are a generous size (try the Biryani for a generous-sized dish) and the prices are very reasonable. It's open quite late for a Brisbane restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Two thumbs up from me -HIGHLY recommended!
Best Indian Ever!. At Halims, you get wonderful friendly service and Fantastic food, with all the flavours from India you could ever dream of, i am an addict. I have tried so many Indian restaurants and this one is the best!
Best indian EVARR. Absolutely the best indian in brisbane. great serving sizes, great value. Visited dozens of times including take-away and the quality of their curries has remained amazing. bombay aloo is to die for.
Number one in Bris!. I recently moved from Sydney and didn't think I'd find Indian as good as Banjara in Crows Nest. Halims Indian Taj is unbelievable... without a doubt the best Indian I've ever had. Excellent staff and superb food. Def recommend the butter chicken and spinach naan
Best Indian in Brisbane. The food is fantastic! Make sure you have the Butter Chicken. It's amazing!
Best Indian reataurent in Brisbane! The chef will greet the regulars, service is gold, great fresh meat. Highly reccomended.
What amazing flavours🍽. The $32 Banquet was a total 🏆 winner. Fast delivery of food to the table, attentive staff and very friendly. Good selection of drinks menu. Absolutely will eat or get delivery from here when back in Brisbane (From Melbourne)
Ordered butter chicken, tikka masala, garlic naan and saffron rice. Taste of the curries were quite good and delicious, however portions are quite small and very expensive. The curries were around $20 each - and really just for one person. Garlic naan was alright but could use more improvements in my options - the overall texture wasn’t great and didn’t taste much of the garlic.
Best Indian Restaurant in Brisbane.
Punjabi palace is my favorite Indian restaurant in town; paintings on the wall display the spirit of India. Staff members are very friendly and with great customer service skills. Food is prepared with fresh and high quality ingredients.
The food is sensational. Garlic cheese naan is so tasty by itself; and if you dip them in the curries, you won't be able to stop eating them. I ordered 2 initially and my tummy requested me to add another 2.
For the curries, I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Beef Ceylon both with mild flavor. The chicken was cooked skillfully that all the flavor had been soaked up by the meat. The beef was tender, juicy and easy to chew.
I definitely recommend the restaurant and I will come back again in the near future to try different dish on the menu.
Best Indian we have ever tried!! Other restaurants are okay but this is the best - the flavours are just perfect. At other Indian restaurant all you can taste is grease, oil & chilli but the flavours at Punjabi Palace are sensational. We tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday and they were absolutely packed upstairs and downstairs despite the other restaurants in the area being empty and now we know why! Service was fast (considering how busy it was) and staff were so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again and again!
The curries were very fragrant and creamy. My favourite Indian restaurant in Brisbane
Punjabi Palace has a very nice family atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food at a reasonable price.
Unique ambience - the music is not loud, just pleasant background chatter.
I also like that I don’t feel rushed like in other restaurants where they are eager to take the plates away.
They are also open till late.
Cosy restaurant, good service and authentic Punjab cuisine.
