Review Himalaya Sagar - Brisbane

Best chef in Coorparoo. Ricky prepared multiple courses of delicious authentic Indian food. No menu. All surprises. All delicious. Freshly made hot naan breads, chilli chicken, vegetarian curry - flavour galore. We love this man and his food cooked with joy.

Place looked dodgy but food and service was lovely. Spicy as hell so had to down it really fast, fair trade off givin how good it was.

Absolutely beautiful food and service. 100% recommend. Flavors abound in each dish, meat so tender. Amazing experience.

Unfortunately the food has changed since the recent closure/reopening. Same menu, but definitely not the same taste. I’ve always ordered the same two dishes for the last 2 years and they are definitely not as tasty now. In addition the naan portions have decreased. Good news is that they still have the same delicious veggie samosas, but they now only give tamarind, and not the additional spicy green sauce that I liked. The staff also now seem a bit less enthusiastic about life.

Hidden gem. Place looks uninviting from the outside and maybe that's why I've noticed most patrons takeaway their orders. But the food is incredible. Very generously portioned, appropriately priced. And the taste is as good as it gets. Try the naans and the goat curry!

I have not been to this restaurant for a while and prior to this last meal, it was very good and I rated it a 5. I have recommended it to others and always received bad feedback. So I wanted to find out why, so I tried to order takeaway on Friday and the lady that answered the phone could not understand simple English, I had to call in and order over the counter. I ordered a Lamb Saag, but I’m pretty sure that I received Goat, because one of the pieces had a bone that looked like it was from Goat meat. The meat was dry and the curry was tasteless, just lots of heat, way too hot for medium and I received no rice with the order. I now understand why the feedback was always bad, sorry but you have lost my business and I have changed my rating to a 2.

There are only two Indian restaurants I rated 5 stars in Brisbane and this is one of them. Ordered goat curry. REALLY GOOD!!! Price is so reasonable with the use of real spices and ingredients. Service is great too. Highly recommended. Come and try and you will know what I meant. Another one I rated 5 stars is on Samuel at Camp Hill.

Really tasty Indian food that comes in perfect proportions and wait time. Our favourite restaurant in Coorparoo. The staff are very friendly and accommodating without being overbearing. Especially the owner who came out when we left to thank us. We will definitely be back!

I had been wanting to visit this place for a while now, and I’m glad I finally did. Everything we ordered was amazing (specifically the goat curry). The prices were very reasonable aswell. Would 100% recommend.

Himalaya Sagar is amazing for Indian food. I am so happy that we live so close to this place. Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants in Brisbane. Quality dishes with lots of meat and doesn’t make you feel bloated like other curries can. Definitely recommend their butter chicken and lamb korma. Their naan bread is delicious as well, light and crunchy and full of flavour. If you like traditional Indian food definitely give this place a go! You won’t be disappointed!! 👌🏽🙏😍

I was so looking forward to dining here as it had been recommended. Service was very slow & I would hardly call it a busy night. Ordered a variety of curries, but they all tasted very similar. I would say the mixed vegetable one was the best of the bunch, but there was a sad lack of spice & heat. Rice was ok as was the naan. Entrees were totally different to how they were described on the menu so a bit of a let down for us I'm afraid

The flavours were just amazing. The staff were very friendly. Slight mix up with the order, which they offered to rectify immediately, but we were happy to accept what was presented a loved it. Great to support a local restaurant. Please give them a go.

3.5<br/><br/>I was a little let down by this place.<br/>The staff were really nice and it's a cute little place but I didn't love the food (I got a dahl makhani and rice).<br/>It was okay but nothing special. It was reasonably priced though so maybe I'll just try something else next time.

Don't know why these guys don't have more stars! Great little place, friendly service, great prices and delicious food!! Good serving sizes too, so we have some yummy leftovers to take home with us

My partner and I ordered a Malai Kofta and Butter Chicken. I'm always hesitant to order vegetarian meals as they're usually watery and bland. When I took a bite of my kofta I legitimately cried, my partner did not understand what was going on until he also took his first bite. I have never had a better vegetarian curry. The portion sizes were huge which was surprising considering the prices are cheaper than most Indian restaurants. I will not be eating Indian anywhere else as long as this place is still open. Bless.

TL;DR; Without hyperbole, some of the best Indian which I have ever had the pleasure of eating. <br/><br/>It has come to one of those times, one of those times where the most memorable meal comes right out of nowhere without any circumstances to set it all up. This was the case here, and it might well be some of the best fare in town - all this from somewhere that might not be given a second look if not known it is there. Even if I did not eat in here per se, from what I can remember going past here one day - by mere coincidence that time - is that with somewhere that is not as conspicuous as a lot of the other competition that is around, and would be driven and walked passed by numerous people aplenty, the pictures of the decor and how the vibe of it looks must be commended quite a bit. That is Indian eating in a nutshell, but the important matter at most here is how good their fare is. Well, we may well have reached perfection this time around. <br/><br/>Getting to it again with the PPV events on the WWE Network, no matter how many of them there are the ritual is still the same: when I get home from work, I put it on as soon as I can, fire up the delivery services and then place an order to eat in front of the show. With it being Battleground, and considering the what the main event was - Punjabi Prison (by the by, not their greatest) - it still made sense to go the Indian route. Regardless of what the stipulation was, Indian has often proven itself as one of the best takeaway options so just put that as the shorter version of the story. All that was needed was to plug the orders in, and then wait for it to arrive. <br/><br/>This was some of the best service yet from UberEats, arriving by a lightning quick motorbike. That is as good as it gets, everything was still pipping hot when it arrived at the house, and with it being the suburban streets at night, the biker could easily duck and weave more lithely thus saving a heap of time. If this is a bar that UberEats will start to set for their delivery services, then I say that they shall go for it - efficient, effective and everybody wins. <br/><br/>And before getting on to talking about the food they have here, they deserve to get the lip service necessary for their website which hosts a couple of recipes from their range of curries. As a fellow gourmand, this is definitely a touch that many other restaurant websites could integrate to expand the love of eating into loving cooking as well - both easily go hand-in-hand. <br/><br/>When it comes to their menu, what we have here to eat is the usual selection when it comes to an Indian place. That being said, it is still a substantial range and choice for the majority of palates, and it won't take too many returns to try the entire menu - especially when each return is with a few other people. The general selection is more or less as follows. They have a bunch of entrees, most of them being from the tandoor, along with some street snacks. Curries which are both vegetarian - mostly paneer - and non-vegetarian - the usual lamb and chicken, along with a goat curry, rice dishes of both biriyani and rice on the side, a range of breads for on the side, and some sweets including the drinks. It is everything basic that you could want from an Indian takeaway, plus a little bit more to fill in the gaps. <br/><br/>Looking towards a good night, a solid amount was ordered for this event. Firing up the rice cooker after the order was put in, it was for a couple of curries, a starter, some drinks, and bread. That is all it takes for a great meal here, and each component was tasty and the serving sizes were on the generous side of the scale. First off is with the onion bhajis, in which there must have been one big handful of them. They were quite crispy, had a nice touch of spiciness to them that was apparent without overpowering the flavour, and the onion filling was sweet, well caramalised and solid. This was off to a good start, and it only got better from there. <br/><br/>Both of the curries that I ordered were classics - it is hard to go wrong with a chicken tika marsala, and for something a bit more spicy the lamb vindaloo is hard to go by as well. These two curries had rich, wonderful, thick gravies which were well spiced with plenty of complex ingredients, coupled with bits of meat which were substantial in size, and some of the best quality that could be found - we are talking like thigh or something. What was especially good about these curries, in particular with the vindaloo, was the level of spice in them. This was nothing which had you break out in a complete sweat, but certainly managed to heat you up. Simply put, there is something about a high bar set here with such a seemingly simple composition. <br/><br/>Of course, none of that would be possible without some good old bread on the side. It was a panner paratha that I got, and this was about medium size with bread. It was pretty tasty, the dough was soft and spongy, and it had quite a bit of cheese melted into it which gave it a bitey flavour, and it did well to soak up all the sauce. It would have been pretty good there, but other details pushed it from being another good place - albeit getting up there as is - to something else. <br/><br/>Considering my house mate, when it came to getting a mango lassi the button was pressed on the app to get a second one, and that was definitely a treat there. In drinking the lassi, it was thick, ice cold, creamy and smooth - delicious all round. It more or less did what it intends to do, and what really stood out was that there were bits of mango skin within the drink; that is a good thing, mind you, since what that reiterated to me was that everything was done fresh. <br/><br/>Finally, where it ultimately has the linchpin to get that perfect score is when we get to the desserts. Regardless of whether it was from a small selection or not, one thing that is hard to deny is just how good a gulab jamun is at the end of a good Indian meal. That is precisely what I ordered. If anything, these were what signified that we had truly found a major winner in Himalaya Sagar. Often reliable, gulab jamun is often sweet, and quite moreish. The sugar syrup is like icing on the cake. Aside from the doughnut holes being substantially bigger than usual, why it exactly stood out to me so much is something I can't quite put my finger on. But ultimately, this was the sweet finish to a wholly enjoyable meal. <br/><br/>Without any question, and after even considering it, there is no way that I am able to give any legitimate demerits to Himalaya Sagar. Each component of food was at a really high level of quality, regarding both the taste and the texture, it was quite clear that they used fresh and good quality ingredients down to the tiniest detail, and the best of all was how balanced the curries were with both the spice levels and flavour. It was complex and satisfying. From the outside looking in, like many others around town, it may or may not look like one more of your local Indian takeaway - but when it comes to the crunch, I enjoyed all of it so much that I saw right past that and believe this to be very well at the top of the line with Indian dining in Brisbane. And this was merely deliver. And I have eaten at literally dozens of these places.

I honestly do not understand the rating. I've tried a bunch of the popular Indian joints in Brisbane and this place is up there with the best of them. The goat curry and sagwala are particularly good. <br/><br/>We used to go to Curryville in Morningside until we discovered this place, which is just as good but cheaper. Seriously, give it a go.

Should have paid more attention to the overall rating, not the last couple reviews for Himalaya Sagar.<br/><br/>I ordered the Vegetable Samosa, Tandoori Chicken Tikka and Plain Naan for delivery via UberEATS.<br/><br/>The highlight of the meal was discovering that they had included an extra Vegetable Samosa in the order. They were dense little samosas with decent flavour. On its own it would rate a 3, but two for $4.95 gets a bump up to 3.5.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the naan was dry, burned in places and smeared with char. It was unpleasant on its own and dragged the chicken down as I intended them to be served together. The naan was pretty pathetic and rated a 1.5. It was edible, but in no way enjoyable. Nobody likes the acrid taste of char.<br/><br/>The Tandoori Chicken Tikka ($12.95) was below average on its own (2.5), but combined with the naan was not very nice (2). Not a tremendous amount of chicken for $13.<br/><br/>I regret not trying the curries, but if I had been served naan like this with a good curry I would have been furious...probably for the best that I limited the damage.

Fabulous food, great value, lovely staff! Can't believe we waited a year to visit this place in our local area, we'll return ASAP! Highly recommended.

We were actually on the way to another Indian restaurant in Camp Hill, but it was shut for a renovation. We fortunately found Himalaya Sagar and gave it a try. Wowwwww!!!! Our chicken tikka masala was so delicious and the malai kofta was divine! The naan bread was perfectly cooked; a crisp...

The food here was delicious, although I would probably only get take-away from here as the service was quite slow. There were only a couple of other tables with people, however they were more busy with setting tables than taking our order. After ordering, our food took at least another 45 minutes to come out. When it did come out it was very tasty, almost worth the wait.

What a lucky local discovery. The food here is fantastic. Added together with low prices and attentive service it's fast becoming our go to local restaurant.
