Great staff. The menu was good, especially the breakfast menu...until they removed mushrooms! No mushrooms on the breakfast menu? What did mushrooms ever do to the head chef? Mushrooms are not offensive. Bring mushrooms back please! I am dying without your mushrooms. It's been 12 months of no mushrooms - enough already. Un-ban mushrooms!
Well executed consistent food. Nothing overly adventurous but that's not their ethos. Good starters, pastas and main dishes. Proteins (fish and meat) are cooked to perfection. Perfect business lunch place, breakfasts are reasonable in price for CBD. Coffee is more expensive than just one level above (same owners). Would be surprised if you had a terrible meal here. However, do note that you need to book.
It have always had tasty coffee when I have been here previously. When I dined recently I chose the crab linguine. Fairly good flavours but the portion size felt a bit small but probably on par, value-wise, for other places in this location. Fantastic high ceiling at the venue and very elegant dining setting.
Noice. Service: fairly attentive although not overly in your face. I didn't get the snobbery that often comes with restaurants in this price range. We were seated by the windows and getting their attention was a little difficult on the odd occasion.
Choices: great sized menu - one page! (for someone like me that often gets decision making trauma at restaurants, this was perfect). The wine list is excellent for a venue of this type - so spoilt was I for choice that I couldn't make up my mind and ended up having a couple of beers (happy hour is Mon-Wed 4:00-6:30pm btw... 25% off all alcoholic beverages).
Food: no issues. We had the braised lamb shoulder ($48) to share, tomato salad medley, sauteed green beans (with eshallots and chopped hazelnuts) and a platter of cheese, pickles, prosciutto & salad (watercress, fennel and radish) ($24). I was quite surprised by the beans - they were quite a taste sensation! I'll be back for those!!
We also had the chocolate tart, the apple tartatin and the creme brulee. I'd come back for the chocolate tart.
Value for money: Fairly good, we had (copious) drinks and approximately 2.3 courses - for a pp cost of about $75. This was helped along by happy hour and the complimentary inclusion of 2 sides with the lamb (M-F, 6-8pm promo).
Verdict: Would go again.
Ate here on a Friday night, great service from the wait staff. Very reasonably priced, my fiancé had the wagyu burger which was delicious. I opted for truffle chips and the chorizo and chickpea tapas which were very yummy. We will be back to try dessert for sure!
I chose George Bar and Bistro for my social group Brisbane Social 20s and 30s Midweek Dinner for May. The menu looked interesting and reasonably priced so I decided to give it a go.
I had a delicious dinner here with my partner after work on a Friday night. The food was great, although we did wait quite a long time for the meal to come out.
We also asked for our side dish, the fried chicken, to be served as an entree but they bought it out with the main. If that had come out before our main, the wait would not have been too bad. Still, the food was great, if not a little bit pricey.
There was also live music and the waiter even made a special cocktail for me that was not on the menu.
This is for GG Espresso - I love the avocado toast, but it's only ever put on HeyYou sporadically. It's always "in stock" and I've asked why it's not on at a particular time a couple of times with the response to the effect of - "oh isn't it?? Sorry about that it should be" but the issue hasn't been fixed. It works perfectly on HeyYou because I can order it on the bus, then pick it up as I walk through to work. GGs is busy (good thing obviously) but I don't have time in the mornings to order and wait 15-20 minutes for toast, so I have to order it elsewhere which actually isn't as good as GGs. Please fix this!
Great food, staff, and ambiance. Recommend their bacon and egg wrap.
Best coffee in the city and treated with great customer service during the entire experience here, whether getting take away or dining in.
The dining, service and food are great, but you have to get here early unless you plan on waiting for a while to get a table.
Service very good. Staff very polite. The food very good and good wine list.
I like this place for client meetings. The location, staff, atmosphere, food, and the coffee are all top notch
Friendly staff, always attentive and a great atmosphere.
