I went along with a friend for Friday night for dinner.
It was great! ... and first up, to get free parking considering it is a relatively inner-city venue. There were places available in the car park.
I really like this grand looking Hotel both from the outside and from the inside. It has many and varied areas. You can choose a spacious outdoor open air area right through to smaller intimate places to sit and enjoy a drink or meal or watch some sports on the very large screens.
We had dinner in the bistro. It features lots of humorous dog pictures and photos on the wall and had tables of various sizes that were in burrowed areas around the walls.
Even more impressive was the attitude of the staff. Their approach was very calm and personal and attentive to detail.
They also seem to know their products! The guy behind the bar was extra helpful with explaining some of the more unique beers and what styles they were etc.
We ordered steaks which came with skin on chips which were really yummy. The rump steaks were tender, flavoursome and cooked perfectly.
The prices of the menu items were very reasonable. ...no over priced $40 steaks here.
We were exceptionally surprised at the quality of.the meals. They arrived in good time too!.. and considering it was a busy Friday evening, another positive aspect.
Will certainly be going back.

Excellent venue for private celebration of an 0 birthday!! Bar, outside seating and inside lounge area provided was very comfortable. Food platters delicious. Staff very attentive and helpful. Most impressed by all of the other amenities the Normanby hotel provided their patrons who were having fun and enjoying themselves. Recommend a visit to this Hotel.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Our group had a GREAT afternoon. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Ask for the On Tap Beer SPECIAL of the day. Food was value for money. I'm sure We will be back again.

Food was OK. Pulled pork burger could have been better. But as south Australians, to rock up and have the afl on the bug screen was a blessing.

Good food! Convenient large Carpark next to the restaurant.

Glass of wine out of the tap tasted like the line hadn’t been cleaned properly and therefore the wine tasted foul. Sent it back but bar lady thought it was ok to tell me there’s nothing wrong with it. Funny, I never saw her try it before telling me. My mate and I both ordered the same steak, mine looked way smaller then his. His was cooked perfectly. Mine over cooked. Luckily the taste was decent. I’d come here again but I’ll just stick to beer. Wine out of the tap just doesn’t seem right. Was a good night minus the bar lady that let me have her opinion. Just change my drink like I asked, Don’t back chat and give me your two cents. You’re not paid for your opinion.

The Hops Bar & Hounds Lounge areas were great to celebrate our son's 21st. The combined indoor/outdoor space worked well for our family & friends group. The event manager and our bar staff for the night were terrific and went above and beyond. Food was delicious, plenty of drinks on list for our bar tab .. it was a wonderful night all round. Thanks guys 😃

After just receiving a $3 Million upgrade we were able to take a look at the new Normanby Hotel. A place now catering for all types of people throughout its many different room layouts and relaxed menu. Web sampled a variety of dishes, all made in house with a strong emphasis on nothing being bought in pre-made in bags.

Went for dinner today and was sadly disappointed. We were the only people in the restaurant. The garlic bread pizza wasn't bread at all or pizza really, it was a tortilla with a bit of garlic and a lot of cheese put in the oven and the calamari wasn't great either. We got the 400g rump and the chicken parmy. With the rump my partner got garlic prawns and he said they were soggy, steak was cook alright but it just wasn't good meat. The cheese on the parmy was rubbery and both our chips were cold. Really wish I could say it was nice because it's a nice venue, just with the food tasted as good as the menu looked. Sorry Normanby, I will say though our waitress (pretty sure her name was Claire) was lovely

Revisit this hotel before the expiry of its Mad March promo. Dined at the Garden grill area and found that it was packed with people who were mostly indulged in their alcoholic drinks. It was noisy but full of fun. Listened to Joe (one of the Zo-mates) and not ordered any seafood this time. Instead, we ordered the pizza bread, Eye fillet and Bone on Rib Eye. The pizza bread was surprisingly good with strong aroma of cheese. Even though it was so busy, chefs' culinary skill is consistently good and so as the quality of steaks. Due to the surprise of the pizza bread, I may return to try the pizza next time.

Having heard of the March special at the Normanby Hotel from BrisvEGustation, there was no way I could resist trying it out whilst the meals were on sale. Having heard from a colleague that it would be best to go during a weekday when it was less busy. With this advice in mind, I went on a Wednesday after work. Expecting it to be somewhat more quiet, it took quite a while before we could find a park.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Perfectly cooked, medium rare, Wagyu Beef was the highlight of a very enjoyable lunch at the Normanby Hotel with the venerable Joe K.

The reason we were at the Normanby for lunch on a weekday? They are running a half-price promotion for the entire month of march, where everything on the restaurant menu is 50% off the regular price for lunch and dinner.

Joe and I both took full advantage of this wonderful promotion and ordered the most expensive (and most desirable) item on the menu, the 300 gram Wagyu Porterhouse which is listed at $48. The Wagyu was highly marbled, the fat was beautifully rendered and the meat was tender and delicious. This was the most perfectly cooked steak I've had in over a year and the overall best steak I've eaten in many months. The Wagyu Porterhouse rated a 4.5!

Served with Chips (3.5) and a salad (or double chips in my case), this represented tremendous value for $24. The only negative about this dish was that the Red Wine Jus was quite sweet and was very copious. Less sauce would have better highlighted the tremendous flavour of the beef. Next time I will request the sauce on the side.

I also ordered the Falafels and the Chicken Caesar Salad, which list for $12 and $22 respectively. The falafel were freshly fried in small balls, but lacked flavour and was a bit disappointing - this rated a 3. The Chicken on the Caesar Salad was very dry and there was very little dressing, making the whole salad quite dry. After a few bites I decided to have the salad packed for takeaway and the lovely waitress was kind enough to provide me with extra dressing. I sampled this and it was immeasurably better. With the additional dressing this rated a 3.

My overall rating reflects the very average falafel and salad. Had I just ordered the steak, my overall rating would have been a 4.

Next time I'm sticking to steak and/or schnitzel!

Great steaks, fantastic service, ample free parking and 50% off the entire restaurant menu during the month of March make the Normanby a no brainier this month.

Many thanks to BrisvEGustation for bringing the 50% off to our attention!

We arrived at the Normanby Hotel at 12.25pm for a quick lunch. BrisvEGustation told us of the half price menu yesterday so there was no time to waste. My usual dining partner was engaged with family duties so Meatballs And Beef Cheeks happily volunteered to join me.

The restaurant is open planned, almost al fresco and we were greeted by a happy waitress. We were given two menus and were asked to seat ourselves. We walked over to the the attractive stocked bar to get our drinks then sat down to peruse the menu.

I was tossing up between my favourite, the 400g rib eye on the bone ($38) or the 300g Wagyu porterhouse ($48). We eventually opted for the Wagyu porterhouse and Mr Meatballs ordered an additional Caesar Salad and a bowl of falafel.

Our meals arrived within 20 minutes and Mr Meatballs asked me to share the Caesar Salad and Falafel. My salad was adequate so I tried the Falafel. It was freshly fried but the centre was a bit soft and lacking in flavour. The steak was outstanding from my first bite to the last piece and great value for $24. This chef is certainly a pro when it comes to grilling Wagyu steaks.

After finishing our meal at 1.10pm we still had time for a chat before leaving the restaurant. I was impressed by the quality of the grilled steaks and the prompt service as Mr Meatballs had to be back at the office by 1.30pm. Thank you Mr Meatballs for your company and for sharing your Falafel. We will be back!
Terrible food + awfully presentated plate + restaurant overcharged us (by $5).
We ordered two eye fillet steak, medium, with mushroom sauce and chips with the works (all three toppings: onion rings, calamari, and prawns).
Steak was raw, sauce hardly had a mushroom in it and tasted only cheap melted butter, frozen packet calamari, onion rings and prawns which tasted awful, soggy chips, small portion of salad and chips (hardly 6-7 pieces of chips)
My partner had problem to finish her plate.
My pre-lunch tap beer was not cold (coolish at best).
Threadbare floor carpet, tired decoration, sofa next to us had a ripped vinyl......
Very disappointed. It was the Last time we dinned in the Normanby hotel, never again. I definitely will not recommend Normanby hotel to my friends and colleagues.

Great if you like potato chips added to all the meals. Vegetarian offerings include nachos pizza or the perennially unimaginative pumpkin or more pumpkin or over stewed sweet potato. Great if you are six years old

Being a buffalo wing fan, the first thing I had to try was the aptly named Buffalo wings on the menu. Once they arrived I was a little shocked by the dark brown colour opposed to the traditional deep orange red associated with Buffalo. Sadly, the wings had no resemblance to Buffalo wings and same, same for the accompanying sauce. The wings were a smoky BBQ flavour with an aioli type side sauce. As any die hard Buffalonian knows that the wings should have spice, vinegar and deep richness. I would have loved the more traditional offering of blue cheese and sour cream concoction for the side sauce too. In contrast, the wings in their own right were quite tasty and satisfy your chicken hunger pangs, but they just aren't Buffalo derived.
Overall a fair offering at a high price.
Food 4/10 service 5/10 decor 6.5/10

Went for an early dinner and was disappointed. Service isn't up to scratch, had to wait a long time for drinks and then for someone to take our order. Then there was a longer wait for our meals to arrive and the place wasn't even busy yet. The salad was limp, my steak was overdone, the only saving grace of my meal were the chips. I won't ever be back.

Delicious Meal and Great Vibe!. Had a great night, last night at the Normanby! The food was delicious and the service was fantastic and entertainment. I will have to come back sometime for another Mushroom risotto dish.

5- Stars Couldn't be happier! Yum. Today me and my sister went to The Normanby Hotel for lunch and I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad, And I have to say it would have to be in my top 3 of venues that make this dish, the portion size was very generous too. The staff behind the bar and the waitresses were all very kind and accommodating,I always knew this place was a great spot to go out to on the weekend for drinks I never new their food was this good!

Horrible staff. Will never step foot in this place again after the violent behavior I witnessed by the security there. Totally disgusting and not a safe environment if you want a pleasant night out.

Best Ribs EVER!. If you haven't tried the BBQ Ribs off their menu yet you should, they are super yummy!! Also their stuffed chicken is pretty delicious too!

Great food and Service.. We went there over Christmas and had the best time and the food was great. We had a group of 10 and everyone was very happy. Going again in a few weeks. Highly recommend this pub.

Will not go back!. We went here at the weekend for our works Christmas meal and we all left very disappointed. The service was non-existent, when we first arrived we stood at the front and waited for someone to show us to our table, four members of staff walked passed us, looked at us and then carried on walking. After 5 minutes of waiting we spotted the table with our name on it and were fed up of waiting so just went and took our seats. When we went to order the food the waitress was so rude, she didn't look at us when asking what sides we would like with our steaks and kept rolling her eyes. Then when she brought the food over to our table she just screamed out our orders and before we had a chance to say who's it was she just threw them down in front of people. The meals were actually ok, although the steak was a bit burnt on the outside and I do think that they are overpriced for what you get. I used to come to the Normanby once a week a few years ago and it is a shame that the service has gone down hill so much. I will not be returning again.

Steak yes, pizza no. Had lunch with a bunch of friends and we all enjoyed the steaks and salmon. Later on ww ordered pizza and were very disappointed with the tiny size of the meal given the price

Bad Service! Staff are too bitchy!!. To finish off a great night out with friends, we stopped for a drink. (I am a young female by the way).
We wanted to order 3 drinks.
The dark haired bitchy looking girl working at the downstair bar yesterday 6, Nov goes, "you can't pay with card for anything less than $25! the cash machine is over there!" and turns around. I went to withdraw money but returned to the bar thought I'd check how much it'd come to. So I asked "So how much is it by the way for those drinks?", she goes aggressively "what do you want?!" , I said what I wanted and she goes "That's fine!" and turns around without answering the question. So I asked "so... how much does it come up to?" She's like " I said "that's fine!". I asked again "I wanted to see if the 3 drinks make $25, if it doesn't I can order something else to make $25, so that was my question, how much it is?". She goes again "I said that's fine. it's $17".

I said "it wasn't fine a minute ago and now it's fine.. ? " and the other dark haired girl at the bar comes up and both of them trying to make some scene, saying "Are you going to argue with us or do you just want to get the drinks?!"...
Then this black security guy crosses his arms and leans by the bar as if I am causing a trouble!!.

It was as if these ignorant people wanted some kind of scene tonight so they feel better about themselves.. by treating customers in a way that they are the king but not customers? I thought it was pretty pathetic and certainly was not worth wasting my great night out I had been having so far.

I doubt that they are being trained to have some decent manners toward customers and obviously Normanby wouldn't be a destination for a night out with my friends anymore. Stay away if you don't want to ruin your valuable time by bitchy staff who are looking for a fight!.

Not Great. Food was cold, service was average.
For these prices not coming back.
Building beautiful.

Love Christmas in July. Christmas in July means 1/2 price menu - well entree & mains at any rate & assuming you have the barcode this year. We had an early dinner (6pm) so was great as no one else was there yet. For entree we had fish cakes & mains were steak (of course!)
The fish cakes were fantastic. Actually tasted like fish, great texture, not mushy & soft, firm & full of flavour. The sauce was very fresh & yum.
The steaks - a rump & rib eye - were cooked to perfection - medium and rare - the coleslaw was lovely and the chips are awesome. Husbands salad wasn't anything to write home about, just some lettuce & chunks of tomato with a few slices of cucumber.
All in all 1/2 price on a quiet Wednesday night it was a lovely evening, great food, great service & friendly staff.

Normanby bovine. Awesome steak, great staff and well priced, definitely would go back

No no. A group from work went to the Normanby for some lunch. Let's start by saying that we had some of the WORST service... EVER. Manager - no point in hiring "hot" girls that aren't interested in recommending items from the menu, roll their eyes when they get the order wrong and are generally rude and uninterested. It's much better to invest in quality staff, as service is KEY when defining a dining experience. No water refills, waitress chewing gum... just so bleak!

Apart from the awful service, the food was actually not too bad. The steak (eye fillet) wasn't the best in the world, but priced at $26, I can't complain too much. If it were a $40-50 steak, I would definitely be a lot more disappointed. Overall, okay food but the service really ruined it for us.

Delightful!!. My family and I had my sons birthday lunch there last week and the steaks were cooked to perfection and came out very fast!
The Waitresses were absolutely delightful and attentive, very hard to come by these days!
We will be spending all family occasions here in the future : )

Not that great!. Went to the Normanby last weekend with a few friends and had the chicken burger - The peice of chicken had no flavour what so ever and was still white but tasted burnt, Tasted like it had been cooked on an overly dirty grill plate. Nice venue, love it there on a sunday but the restaurant unfortunately needs a bit of attention.

Bad steak, worse service. Went for a birthday meal as my husband loves steak. Sadly, the 500g T-bone steak was a thin cut, tough and worse yet burnt so badly on the edges it tasted like charcoal. The pepper sauce bland and uninteresting, the chips soggy under the steak. When asked how the meal was we commented that we were less than impressed and were told the meat supplier had recently changed but there were discount desserts on offer, which should help make up for it.... really??? We came for the steak!

The service was appalling - topped off by a half hour plus wait for dessert (which they did apologise for) then cleared the tables of patrons who had left the restaurant while ignoring those of us who were still there. Even when we walked to the counter to try and pay our bill and leave, the waitress thought it was more important to continue putting cutlery in a drawer than attend to us. This place used to be great, but we will NOT be going back.

A great place to taste the steak but you have to for a long time to be served. However I am still very happy about the dinner here.
Chrissy
Great steak. 1 of the best steaks in brissy

great atmosphere as well
Bullette Angus
Don't go if you have dietry requirements. Wanted to go to the Normanby, have dietry requirments they could not offer anything other than what was on the menu... what was asked for... a plate of fresh vegies in a platter... no they can't do that

dissapointing
Captainshaft
Not a bad feed. Again, for a pub meal, i wouldnt expect anymore. I had the 500g T bone, but I wouldn't say it's the best steak in Brisbane. Service was also okay.
Sophie Esther Glynn
So So. $130 for a two course, two person meal, you could Definitely find elsewhere. Steak was cold, chips were gorgeous. Dips for the Turkish bread needs a rethink. Recommend the Kilpaytick Oysters yarm
Kevin McDonald
Halfway decent feed.
Lulu
For a hotel that is over 100 yrs old they only cater for people under 25, and seriously more like 18, Bovine is ok but don't venture further.
Jason
Great pub and restaurant. Had a steak here 2 weekends ago and it was excellent. There was a great selection of wines and beers but that is pretty normal these days at most inner city pubs. What I really liked was the friendly staff. They were excellent.
Food_fan
Best steak in Brisbane. I am not even kidding, I have been dining here fairly regularly since they refurbished many years ago,and it has consistantly been the best steak in Brisbane; and pretty much the best priced! I have tried all the other well known, and some lesser known, reputable steak places, and I finally just gave in and stopped wasting my money, as I couldn't find any better. I have tried things other than the steak, but nothing in thelast few years.
Be warned though, Sunday night is not a good night to go.
Chris Nunn
Good steak. Not realy a place for a nice dinner out as its beter known for its drinking sessions and the bar staff dont know how to make cocktails but have had the waygu rump here and there first time had it was and still is one of the best steaks i have had in my life the second time was still good but nothing compared to the first time
Stoned01
Ordinary. Too many flies, sticky table, meal ordinary.
Brizzz
I don't think 'The Norms' is really known for it's food. It's the Sunday arvo session that makes this place so good. Great atmosphere and the one-man-band, Tuffy, coming on about 6:30ish, makes this place an iconic pub in Brisbane for Sunday drinks.

My Birthday. Ive just had my birthday here and it was great. The room hire was completely FREE. The staff were great and the night was just terrific. Best birthday Ive had for ages!

Getting that burger feeling? If you want one that really hits the spot this burger from the Normanby at Red Hill looks a good fit. Thank you to my partner, Kevin, for stopping to photograph this before he ate it! It takes restraint believe me folks! There
