Drove around Highgate Hill area this morning, my gaze was caught by a group of cyclists who stopped in front of this café for coffee. As the rule of thumb, this gives me the confident to make an exploration. Found a parking spot around the corner and walked back to the café. Ordered a flat white and told the friendly staff to prepare me a slice of banana bread with light toasted and buttered. Coffee came first, which is well presented with right strength for me (it proves my gut feeling is true). The banana bread was prepared exactly as what I expected; needless to say, I am happy with my light brekkie and thanks for the team. Cheers!
Friendly neighbourhood vibe. Love sitting out the front on the street watching the world go by. Excellent coffee and great value breakfast. I like the Brekky Puck, a small, delicious and cheap snack to start the day.
Nice small, friendly cafe. Beautiful garden area out the back and live music on sunday mornings. Friendly staff and good coffee. Enjoyable food with large portion sizes.
Amazing service guys 👏! Medium-sized cafe with great outdoor seating - definitely a place for catch-up and coffee ☕️ ! Ordered the mush-up and mega wrap, both are vegetarian (V) options. Menu choices are quite limited but no doubt on the quality and taste 💯 👌🏽👌🏽 I'm happy with what they have as there are like 5-6 vegetarian options on the menu! Which is a big thumbs up 👍🏼 keep up the good work guys!
I've recently moved into the Highgate Hill area. As such, this is my new favourite local cafe. I love the vibe of the place. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food is very reasonably priced. I often have the same thing because it's just so good! I order the Breakfast Puck. I order the vegetarian version which consists of: soft fried eggs, cheese and avocado on a muffin with housemade tomato relish. You can get this dish as a meat lovers version with bacon. or alternately you can get halloumi with the veggo version. But, for me, I love the eggs times two just fine!
On Thursday morning when we popped in, I got my very reasonably priced brekkie ($10) ''Breakfast Puck' and it arrived just oozing of soft gooey eggs and all the usual trimmings. With a cup of English Breakfast tea with soy milk, I'm well and truly in the happy food zone by the time I leave Lucky Duck to start my day.
Great spot on vulture road near our BnB on the way to Southbank. Interesting artwork, relaxed music and happy staff not to mention a fantastic latte and a breakfast muffin called a breakfast puck- had to have that on a holiday! Delicious avocado bacon fried egg with cheese and pickles.
I would walk over hot coals for the Posto Posto. And they didn't raise their prices during the great avocado famine of 2016. Coffee and people are also tops.
Friendly service, great coffee and bacon cooked to perfection. The toast was a bit overcooked, but otherwise, solid meal with a great rustic ambience. Do give the unique 'coconut hot chocolate' a try - you won't regret it.
Booked their back area for my 30th birthday - the staff are unbelievably friendly and they do not charge for cakeage which makes it a great place for any birthday! My guests were all impressed with the location and everyone enjoyed the food from the party package and ordered their own meals like sliders ect. Another great thing about them is if you're running an event and want to have your own music playing they'll happily play a spotify playlist you have for said event! I had a great birthday and a lovely time and hope to return soon for coffee and day drinks.
I meet up with one of my favourite human beans as often as possible, and whenever we do so in daylight hours, we now find ourselves at Lucky Duck Cafe and Bar every time.
We both love a good coffee and Lucky Duck never disappoints. We usually meet for brunch and order a couple of things to share because the quality and variety of their food offerings would seem a terrible waste if not sampled as widely as possible!
There are several separate eating/drinking areas to choose from - some inside and some outside. Since we tend to do a lot of talking (and I prefer to sit in darker and quieter areas in general) the area out the back is perfect.
Michael and Taylor make one feel welcome and at home. What makes Lucky Duck stand out from many other quality cafes in Brisbane is that they've found the magic formula of combining quality ingredients that work really well together, with a quiet confidence that other quality cafes may feel the need to shout from rooftops. I highly recommend them.
If your first date went well and you want to see them some more I suggest you take them to Lucky Duck for breakfast. Or if you have a poem that needs writing or just want a great place to eat or grab coffee. Lucky Duck is a gorgeous cafe with a relaxed vibe, beautiful eclectic aesthetic and awesome food. Little touches to how they present great healthy dishes like the original dukkah and balsamic alongside beautiful avocado on sourdough toast with beetroot and tomato make breakfast a joy. There's plenty of variety to the menu from little sweet snacks to generous meals, great coffee and the best green juice ever: I've never been disappointed. Best of all the place is friendly, welcoming and completely unpretentious. Michael, Taylor and the gang are great hosts. Great Cafe.
This is my favourite cafe in Brisbane. The coffee is great and the food is amazing. The people are always really cheery. I love getting the mega wrap which is soooo delicious. But everything on the menu is pretty good. The music is always such a good selection making this the perfect place to hang out.
I found lucky duck to be a cafe. Coffe was good. I ate a muffin, it was also good. The decor is 'oarsome' and the staff are rad too, always ready with a bon vivant or up for an arm wrestle.
Recently held a party in the back area at Lucky Duck and cannot sing its praises enough! Definitely recommend contacting Lucky Duck to host your next event. Great food and drink, and it's a brilliant space for hosting most sized parties. Unlike many other venues, there isn't a ridiculous deposit required either!
Great little Cafe. Coffee and Chocolate milkshake are superb! Great breakkie too. Highly recommended to anyone.. If you see this, please do yourself a favour and dine in!!
You won't find a better cafe environment in Brisbane. Breakfasts are a treat and the varieties in evening beverages are diverse. Nice people and delicious food.
I just popped in for a coffee one morning but was seduced by the breakfast menu and stayed a bit longer. I've been here for what feels like months now. I don't even know what day it is anymore, in fact time has no meaning in this world. I know my family are probably worried but the mushrooms are just that delicious. I may never leave this prison I have gleefully created for myself. Highly recommend.
The bar, of an evening, is a real unexpected gem. The sliders are on par with the Jerry O'Connell 90's masterpiece and the oiled-up topless male bartenders are reminiscent of Tom Selleck at his spiciest.
Visited this morning and had the wrap and the Canadian Bomb thick shake! Everything tasted excellent and the service was pretty good as well.
Happened to be here for a standup comedian show on a Friday night. Came in before 9pm just got enough time to order some beef & goat sliders before kitchen closes. Nice onessss!!! Plus I like the interior design of the bar 😍
Duck Bate. Great flavour balances
Goes off on a Saturday. This place is like something out of a 80s frat party cross 1930s swing club. The vibe is delish, like their golden haloumi and fresh avo and tomato dishes. I would come here for the just the coffee, but the boogie this place brings on a Saturday is like being taken back to the good old disco days, where the cocktails shake and the floor rumbles. Legit best cafe/bar in Bris
Ducking Good.. Consistently good coffee and food.
Chilled atmosphere.
Upbeat service.
You guys rock.

Green Juice. Packed with refreshing apple, pear, mint, kiwi fruit, cucumber and mint, this juice is heaven on a warm spring day.

Duck Bait. Fried egg with avocado, lemon, basil and tomato with garlic oil on toast - absolutely scrumptious! Perfect serving size and increibly tasty.
Waffles and a smile. Very friendly eager to please staff. The waffles were hugely tasty. Canadian bomb shake one of the most unique in Brisbane. It is so nice to have breakfast out the front with the dog or relaxing evening drinks out the back. You feel like you are with friends at the duck.
Great place. Lucky Duck is a great little cafe/bar with friendly staff, good food, and great coffee. Of a night time, the cafe becomes a bar which has a fantastic atmosphere, and they make amazing cocktails. This place will become a regular coffee/beer drinking place for me :)
Pretty good. Nice vibe, and it's somehow still really nice sitting outside next the busy Gladstone Road and Vulture Street intersection. Breakfast was fine. Very basic - the sort of brekky you could make at home cheaply and quickly so it's nothing amazing but still enjoyable. The shake was tasty but not cold enough. Maybe that's just me though - I cannot stand milk that's only slightly chilled and close to room temp.
Thank You. Hi there. My name is James Davidson, and along with Justine Sinclair (Posto West End), I am one of the owners of the Lucky Duck Cafe & Bar. I wanted to thank the last couple of reviewers for their constructive comments and assure you that we take these reviews very seriously. It seems like you chose to visit the Duck at very moment we were transitioning from being a little 'hole in the wall' cafe to a fully functioning extravaganza replete with bar etc. I can report that a lot of the issues you picked up have now been taken care of. We've recently made a number of changes to staff (no more surly hipsters) and menu and I would like to personally invite you back to give us another go with a free breakfast/lunch on offer. You can contact me directly on luckyduckcafebar@gmail.com if you'd like to organise this. I look forward to hearing from you. JD
I gave the old school breakfast a shot was cooked perfectly. Breakfast and coffee for $15 can't go wrong.
Lucky Duck Espresso - South Brisbane. Having heard about their Canadian Bomb milkshake, my dining buddy and I were both keen on going to this place. The milkshake was not the only incentive, since it got a very high score on here. Unfortunately, their blender was not functional so they apologetically told us that the milkshake was not possible - that is the only bit of unfortunetness while dining here. It is such a creative and characteristic place. Not many areas would knowingly have the kind of layout that it does.
The way to describe it is to think kind of a ghetto meets hippie meets art-student decoration, with milk crates being used as chairs and low tables for furniture (also the window sill is utilised) and a lot of street-art style paintings are around. Having the al fresco dining kind of helps in many ways to its vibe.
They have a decidedly simple menu, with most of the basics of fry-ups plus haloumi; at many points you can substitute haloumi for the bacon. That is what I did with their bullseye - with was a slice of sourdough toast, which was thickly cut and chewy thus perfect in texture, topped with tomato relish, avocado and egg. Often I have my egg runny, but I forgot that this time. For a change though, the hard yolk did not bother me and I think it blended well with the rest of the meal.
The tomato relish had a slightly sweet taste to it and they were more than generous with serving the avocado. Not to mention, that the haloumi was perfectly cooked.
On the side I had an iced mocha. It was more chocolate than coffee, and upon the first sip I could tell they used a good quality blend of chocolate. It was dark and the flavour of chocolate really exploded in my mouth. This does need a bit of stirring with the spoon or straw, but if this is what the mocha is like than any kid (from maybe 6 to 100+) should try this - they might shun the Wonka factory tour hereafter.
Since I love my coffee, I needed to try one before I left so double cappuccino it was. They make a great one here, with generous amounts of foam that segue into the espresso component of the coffee and the modest sizing just makes for the flavour to be more ever-present. It is amongst the city core's best places.
I would most definitely come back here again, and not just to chance myself for the milkshake (though one day, one day), but to show people a tasty and non-pretentious place for coffee.
Looks can be deceiving, and they are here. The hippy-looking guys are really friendly and actually quite good at their job and the described decor make it one place for tourists to go to if they want sometime outside monotomy.
One of Brisbane's best.
Good and hearty food. My friend and I visited this cafe out of whim. He wanted something to eat and both of us had known this place but never tried, stayed close by and the storm was approaching to go to another place...Surprisingly, out visit out of necessity turned out very well. We arrived there nearly one on Sunday. They normally close at 1PM, but were so happy to serve food. Their naming was quirky and some names are a bit rude. So, my friend decided to try the rudest one. He loves good food, and was so happy with his lunch. They were great enough to offer him extra egg as they ran out of avocado. They use Genovese coffee which I don't like much, but the execution was quite good, so I would not complain about it at all. They got the best out of average coffee beans. Just wish they use cup or blackstar because they are in West End/Highgate Hill and both offer superb coffee. I really thank the boys at Lucky Duck Espresso. My friend is happy to go back for nice, hearty and yummy food any time.
I like their coffee and the breakfasts are really tasty although some are a bit overpriced. Kind of annoying when milk shakes are advertised and then told there's no ice cream and I can have one without for the same price.. No thanks. Also were stingy with my friend who requested gf bread and was told there is none so the bread was taken out but nothing off the price.
The Lucky Duck Espresso is a quaint little cafe with a trendy vibe and atmosphere that provides a medium sized selection of Breakfast/Lunch type meals, an espresso that is proffessionally made and tastes so, and a medium selection of other drinks, shakes and sweets. I have not tasted all of their meals but I can say that the 'Halouminator' is a great breakfast meal for those with a supportive palate and a stomach that has a lil more room then your average one. With very generous serves of well cooked haloumi, bacon, perfectly ripened tomato on a large fresh muffin, it is a nice breakfast meal for the weekend. If you are feeling a bit adventurous and want to get the coffee hit without warming the tastebuds then the 'Canadian Bomb' is the bomb! The CB is the best milkshake I have had in a long time, a definite must try for the passer-by! The LDE staff are warm, friendly and very welcoming and there service is great when they're not getting swamped by the morning traffic. If it does take a little while to get a meal during the peak periods on weekends then the staff generally make up for it with their apologetic attitude toward customers. All in all a gem of a cafe with a a little bit of a bang (Canadian Bomb)!
Lucky us!. Don't know why it's taken me so long to try Luck Duck but thank goodness I have! Yes the Canadian Bomb milkshake is indulgently delicious and my flat white was creamy, strong and perfect. I actually couldn't find a menu so asked for haloumi and avo on toast, no worries she says. Indeed, for $8 I was treated to a tasty plate of basil smooched avocado and a generous lump of haloumi delight. All in all, a delicious way to start the day. My new local fave.
High on a hill was a lonely shop, quack quack quack! It's great, the vibe is rocking, 2 great girls running a muck and lovin it! Awesome coffee and a simple Scram Foxxy is the good stuff!!! Get to it beauties!!
Perfect. Great spot for a quick coffee and a simple brekkie bite. Best for solos or couples not wanting to kick back for too long a time. Seats in the sunshine or up at the bench inside coffee and service edgy and fun. My fav coffee spot this month.
One of those cute little cafes off the beaten track, that you only find out about by chance or word of mouth. Great coffee, simple food dishes like haloumi, avocado & tomato on yummy sourdough toast, and some interesting wall art. A very worthy "local". We visit often :)
The haloumi was cooked to perfection, with just-ripe avocado (topped with chopped mint leaves) making this a simple and desirable dish. I think I was wishing for more tomato relish though. Otherwise, a good dish.
The food at this place is very affordable. I mean you can easily find something for $12.50, namely Kings – sour dough sandwich with bacon, egg, avocado, tomato, haloumi and BBQ sauce . And that's exactly what I had. It was simple, but delicious. It had a good balance of all the right ingredients that are required to perk me up.
Love this place! Great coffee, food and customer service. I can highly recommend their awesome fruit toast - by far the best in Brisbane❤️. The good vibes & energy of the Lucky Duck will quietly sneak up, and gently hug you, enjoy!
Such stellar vibes here! Absolutely delicious fried mushroom, crispy chickpea & chaat-inspired rice bowl. Top tier pastries from Sprout. The oat iced latte wasn’t very good and the music was superrr loud on a Sat arvo. Despite that I’d come back for the food and atmosphere in a heartbeat.
Fantastic flavours. Good atmosphere. The pear muffin paired with the salted butter was perfect.

There is a very cool vibe here. The food is healthy, organic and delicious. Kate and Liam are amazing as are the crew. This is home from home. Good job guys 💖
Lucky Duck has the most down to earth staff, good vibes and their adventurous flavour pairings are always spot on! Must visit cafe!
Awesome little place, really nice coffee and vibes. Food is awesome although you have to wait a bit, but it was worth it 😋
Harrison and Dylan are amazing staff !!!!
Had the best dining experience and they made amazing drinks and a great vibe 😍
