Nothing too flash, just an authentic Bowls Club with fantastic river views.
Met up with my girlfriends for lunch to celebrate Christmas. I had the Calamari Chips and Salad. All the ladies enjoyed their meals and the cheap drinks. The servings are very generous and reasonably priced.
Will definitely come back on a Sunday afternoon to sit on the deck and have a drink and maybe to have a go at Barefoot Bowls.
Went here for a function. The position is the most beautiful of any restaurant in Brisbane, right on the water. The antipasto and cheese platters were excellent. The barbecue was okay. Delightful place for a work do - highly recommended

I'm not sure why, but it's one of the most relaxing places in Brisbane for me. Nothing fancy, the bar seems like a borderline demountable. The views sitting almost on the bank of the Brisbane river are beautiful & there is passing entertainment watching the lawn bowls (I've played barefoot bowls there a few time & always had a blast)
..... Let's face it, the food's pretty ok/average at best, Hence the 4 star max rating.
Everything food wise is a slightly lower standard than most suburban pubs nowadays. They have the usual type foods. Burgers, pasta ect. The fish I had today was actually pretty decent (best meal I've had there), fresh & light. Hopefully it's on the improve in that regard.
It has a bizarre & eclectic clientele, which I love. Young, old, fancy dressed, suits, gay, straight. Everyone seems to gel ... Like we all should.
I'll always go here as long as I'm in Brisbane

CHEAP drinks, average food at an average price (that's not meant as an insult) but with a fantastic location. Perfect for a quite arvo couple.

Wow its really been a while since I visited this place. Freshness of seafood were average but definitely a nice place for a bite & a drink with nice relaxing views. Used to come to this place quite often for their oyster shots before they stopped it :(
Good Lunchtime venue with a View!. Chicken burger is always excellent. I enjoyed it so much the first time I dont want to try anything else when I go back. Loaded with bacon and succulent chicken everytime.
Great day out. Sun, river views, bowls, beer and pub food. Great family fun day out.
How can you not like this place?. Awesome location, cheap and tasty food in substantial servings, cheap beers, unpretentious staff, relaxed atmosphere.... an excellent place for people of all ages to enjoy themselves!
What a place !. Wow....just love this club.....always have the best time there....food always beautiful.....staff always happy.... Especially the young guy in the bar.... Geno I think it is :) always meets and greets customers....always with a smile.... .definitely are made to feel at home... Would recommend the iconic Merthyr Bowls to every one, it certainly lives up to its name !
Could be better. Service OK. Minimum $30 Eftpos at the bar is a bit steep so make sure you have cash. Although they do have an ATM. Never seem to have everything on the menu, eg I wanted the beetroot, chorizo salad but they had no chorizo and no beetroot so offered prawn salad instead! Food came quickly though and was of a good standard.
Simple pleasures. This is a gem for Brisbane. The prime real estate and green gardens makes it a popular spot, especially on the weekends. The food has always been a hit and the well priced drinks makes it a top casual spot for a balmy summer night.

John. Tonight I had an eye fillet at the Merthyr Bowls Club and it was bloody amazing. Seriously havent had a steak like that in years in Brisvegas. Where do you get your product from guys? If the rest of the menu comes close to this special event then you guys have the best food in New Farm by far!!! Keep it up boys ~!!!

Been coming to merthyr for years, a few hiccups along the way but have been their recently and the food is back to its best!! generous sizes at reasonable prices, top quality and yummy. pumps on a sunday and their can be a little wait for food but worth it, how do they do it with a kitchen the size of a caravan. keep up the great work and we'll keep coming back.
Good views, good food. Merthyr Bowls Club is the best place on the river for beer. The food is good too, and reasonably priced. I would hate for them to have a makeover and turn into another souless place, I like the atmosphere
Last time I came to the MBC it was 7 Years ago. It was the place in Bris. Needs a spruce up. $22.00 is a bit much for chicken salad @ lunch!!!! Will give it another try.
Great Views; Good Food. The food is club/pub/bistro level but is plentiful, reasonably priced & we haven't had a bad meal there. The beer battered fish & chips is an eternal favourite. Brisbane River views (about 10m away from where you sit) are terrific; beer is cold, an average range of wines & the better ones are in the pricier $30+ range (not really club prices to my mind - I'd rather see a better range of wines around the low $20s range); bar service is friendly. No credit cards unless you spend $50 or more in 1 order.
Really lovely atmosphere. Very good food. Bangers and mash....yummy. Superb location but too cold and windy on the deck to appreciate.
Location was right on the water and they really maximised this with their seating! Good food and service. One star off for dated interior and facilities, and a more limited food & drinks menu. Otherwise a really great spot!
Iconic establishment filled with positive staff and positive vibes and an absolutely stunning view of the Brisbane river. Best bowls club in Brisbane hands down.
Really great food for the prices charged, and a lovely view (watching the ferries and other river traffic go passed) while eating and sipping cold beer makes this visit worthwhile. The calamari I had was very tender, while the other two had fish and chips and apparently it was all very tasty.

Sitting quietly on the bank of the Brisbane River is the layback venue called Merthyr Bowls. Never seems to get packed out these days ( unless there's a function on ), so wise to ring in advance . The food menu covers most tastes & is probably typical of a local pub with prices to match . Has beer on tap with a schooner of craft beer costing $6.90 (150 Lashes) or can purchase by the jug . Great to watch the continuous water craft passing by & joggers / dog walkers & bike riders on adjoining small pathway . Can get a bit cold if a fresh southerly is blowing so dress appropriately. On the well kept green, you can have a game of barefoot bowls , but you will need to book for that . There is a limited amount of free parking on site . Can now use eftpos for both food & drinks which need to be ordered inside . Very friendly and helpful staff. Update :- latest visit , similar to another review , couldn't find our booking . I50 lashes only craftish beer on tap . Chef apologized for fish and chips & would look into it . Best choice on menu would be Calamari, chips & salad for $19.50 . (very tender & also chefs choice)
DOG FRIENDLY - Great place for a drink stop if you’re walking along the river with your dogs. There is dog friendly outdoor seating where you can sit back, eat and have a drink while your pups chill out
