Review Arana Leagues Club - Brisbane

Dominic Rozsa
Quite crowded - however that is to be expected from a leagues club. Live music - was quite nice. Good range of cocktails that tasted great and the bar staff were very friendly. My review focuses on the food I ordered. I ordered the chef's special slow braised pork belly confit. It came with a thinly sliced sweet potato bake and was Asian inspired in flavour. It was phenomenal. I have heard mixed reviews from other people, however I can only give 5 stars as what I had was perfectly cooked, amazing flavours, and was well balanced in terms of portion size and food chemistry. The price wasn't too expensive either.

We visited Arana Leagues Club for dinner on a Friday night to celebrate my son’s sixth birthday. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough to make sure he felt special. They even asked the live entertainer to sing happy birthday whilst my son was cutting his cake. The food was reasonably priced, generous portions and tasted great. The atmosphere was very enjoyable with an entertaining live performer playing well known songs. A very safe place for a family to enjoy a night out. A wonderful experience.

Staff were friendly upon arrival however I didn't like the way table staff just seemed to push past us to clear the table without excusing themselves. The food was tasty but it would be nice to have a bun that actually keeps the burger in place; Everything came adrift and was very messy. The steak was ordered as, medium well done, but came out as, half well done and half medium rare. No complaints from other dishes - duck, roasted ham, chicken caesar salad and chicken burgers. The meals came out in a timely manner and came out at the same time, even though some were ordered online. The atmosphere was pleasant.

My fave place for coffee and cake northside! Today I tried the orange amd almond cake, perfect combo of sweet and tangy.

Great night out taking a mate for birthday dinner. Staff were very polite and engaging. Food was excellent. Good prices. Overall the night was awesome. Thank you to a wonderful club.

My family attended Sun night roast night last week and we thought we had also ordered a kids meal that we were patiently waiting for. After the duty manager checked for us, we confirmed that somehow we missed this meal when we were ordering from our table. The duty manager then organised and delivered my daughter her meal free of charge. All meals were delicious and the customer service was outstanding. Thank you once more and we will see you again soon.

Unfortunately last night the food was not up to standard, me and my family come here for all events and are usually well pleased with the food. My partner had a sea food basket and now has food poisoning and has been sick all day. My partner said the food did taste a bit off. But on nice note the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

Great food and very friendly staff. It's been a long time since we visited a club of any sort. However, the overall quality of the Arana League Club has changed that for us. We joined as a member and will be back.

Went there to see if suitable for a 98th birthday lunch. So glad I did! Using mobility aids was not able to get to counter to get menu as disabled (& car park too far from front door & down a steep grade. ) No one came to aid us but continued setting tables etc. Very few in restaurant at 1pm. Finally a friend got to counter & ordered the meal which was large roast of the day. Meat was not able to be cut with the knives provided & we used a sharp fruit knife I carry. 1 person got 6 long green beans & 2 broccoli sprouts. Another only 2x1/2 beans & no broccoil at all. Mentioned to wait staff who was disinterested & no apology. $20.50 for this meal was disgusting. Most places offer to aid disabled but no one cares here. Apparently there is water available, but how does 1 get it to table with jug with 2 walking sticks? Getting attention from staff was hopeless. Never again. So 20 guests for the birday party will definitely be going elsewhere.

Really bad quality vegetarian food - please do your vego friends and family a favour and book a table somewhere else. The qnocchi and ravioli both seem like they have been reheated from a frozen packet and were extremely bland. The gnocchi came out cold in the middle, and when I sent it back it came out 2 minutes later obviously microwaved with the Parmesan on top melted and the bowl really hot... I couldn’t have made a worse meal at home if a tried.

There is a lot of negative feedback in regards to Customer Service. There must have been a drastic improvement recently as last night my Family and I found the Customer Service outstanding. The gentlemen at the door checking our membership cards was friendly and helpful, the Bar Staff were polite and lovely Waitress was bright and genuinely wished us to enjoy our meals. Excellent customer service in all.
I didn't expect much out of the '2 for $16' meals for that cheap price, however I can't fault them and certainly exceeded my expectations. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their dinner.
We will definitely be returning and I give my full recommendation.

One of the nicest leagues clubs around, really nicely renovated in the last few years. Immense variety of food options, and a great prices. Lunch time specials are great value and there’s options for every taste. Recommend the milkshakes too.

Disappointed with the roast pork last night as it was cold. Looked nice and had lots of crackling (if you don't ask for crackling you don't get it). Sent it back to be heated up only to be served a new meal which didn't look as good and had no crackling but was warm. One was smothered in gravy and the other didn't have any gravy at all. Just a slap up meal. Felt sick all night. Food disappointing really as Ive eaten there quite a few times and some friends wont go back. Nice club, friendly staff etc, but the meals very average. No more roasts there for me. I think a toasted sandwich from the Café will be the substitute

Went to Arana leagues Club for my 39th birthday dinner. The rump had no taste, the beer battered chips were disgusting, the mushroom sauce didn't even taste like mushroom sauce, and whoever the old geezer was doing the promo's on the microphone, I wished he'd shut up. Trying to have a conversation with others at our table and all we could hear was him!

This club obviously haven't fixed issues i've raised with them years ago about their food quality!

Average food. Coordination of meals disappointing again-served at different times and they forgot to serve a meal the last two times we've been here. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice clean facilities. Fun with completion drawers.

The interior far exceeds my expectations. The place was spacious, clean and very orderly.
Food isn't spectacular but it's good value for money and well made.
Not my normal kind of joint, but was for a friends farewell and with so much space, it's the perfect spot.

The club does a lot for the community and they have good facilities and meals. But as a regular and lately, their standards have fallen. Some of the staff are arrogant and don't treat their patrons well. Its got to improve. I use to like this place. Not so much anymore.

A very very long wait for a cheap meal in a noisy crowded environment. Have been a regular for the past year or so but has really turned sloppy again - as it was before the refurbishment. Such a shame. Maybe not have the discount meals and return to quality served in a reasonable amount of time.

We used to visit for the cheap drinks and kids play area, but something has changed here recently. I'm not sure if the kitchen staff have changed but the food has improved substantially; beautifully presented with generous portions, everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. My partner's steak was cooked perfectly, and my main (crispy-skinned pork belly with sweet potato mash and asian greens) was simple, honest food, executed well. Points are lost on atmosphere; it is a leagues club, not a fancy restaurant, so you have to put up with loud music and the meat tray raffle and member's draw winners being called out throughout the night. That said, it's clean and staff are attentive and friendly. Bookings are definitely recommended - any night of the week - as this place fills quickly.

Excellent food and service. Wish they hadn't changed the menu to exclude their crunchy chicken dish none the less, this place doesn't disappoint. We drive past two leagues clubs with food to get her. It's clean friendly and good atmosphere.

Disappointing. We are locals and have dined out at the club over the past 2 years. Unfortunately the quality of the food has declined in the last two months. Tonight's antipasto plate had inedible bread, rock hard, no sundried tomato, olives cold, not as advertised. Seafood pie was overpriced, salty++, steaks charred even when medium.
Such a shame as it has many pluses, great kids area, reasonable drinks menu at okay prices, for a family venue it really does need to look at its pricing.
Ozziebakers
TJBaker. Have used the kick bar & grill many times & always been pleased, until tonight for the third time we were moved from our table as apparently it was reserved & they had ran out of signs...something wrong with good old pen & paper nowadays! There was no greeter at the front to ask for a table & then when ordering our meals in $10 steak night I asked to swap chips for potatoes & was told you could only do this & pay $5.50 extra, when I have always swapped before no problems, the staff were young, looked overwhelmed miserable & to be honest incapable after 18 months of great service tonight ruined it for us...terrible customer service

Overpriced and ordinary. Paid for a steak and it was Tasteless but cooked as ordered. My Wifes steak was unable to be cut with the steak knife.I complained and the manager had a look of shock on here face more so about someone actually complaining, not the fact that they charge overprice for a cheap product. If I pay for a $30 steak.Sorry but I expect it to be good.Go to the Brook and get a $12.50 everyday Steak, salad and chips.(Much Nicer)
When are you going to fix your food Arana, this has been going on for years.Focus more on your customers and get your heads out of the pokies ,Management!

Southern fried chicken. Nothing but salt salt salt. It had no flavour due to the overpowering saltiness of the coating. It was also very soggy. I can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but if you want good chicken get out to the Samford pub and order the buffalo wings as a main

CONFUSED. We tried the new menu last Monday night in the renovated restaurant. We ordered chicken and vegetable soup and roast turkey with vegetables. It sounded great until we realized that the definition of roast turkey was 'sliced, processed turkey meat' as you would receive on a Subway or sandwich. We always expect improvements yet always disappointed. We thought that the new internationally renowned chef(as advertised) could have done better. The chicken and vegetable soup was fine. The restaurant seems too small to cater for so many members.

Lunch in the new cafe and the food was amazing! Although they are halfway through renovations, if what they have completed is anything to go by this place is going to be an amazing place!! Really impressed!

Surprising. Went down to the local
My wife and I were quite surprised
Meals range from $10.95 to mid $30s
Three dining options Cafe, Restaurant and Bistro
Great value most meals $4.00 off for members
I had Eye fillet, great cut and cooked to perfection, my wife had a Bistro Roast, she loved it especially the salad and vegetable bar.
Great coffee to finish our night.

It's a leagues club so reduce prices. Had dinner at outdoor cafe and was really expensive for a leagues club. Food was good but don't like paying riverfront prices for football club views. Right next to smoking area, while blocked it still stinks and not a good look.

Eat in the bistro, the cafe is terrible and expensive. I have eaten there a few times and each time was as bad as the others.

Unimpressed. Went for Anniversary dinner, Bistro only serving Sunday roast so only option was the al fresco bistro:
Service: friendly but that was it, no drink service, queue & order at counter, have to go to pokies bar for drinks: for $35 a main I expect better
Environment: noisy kids, loud drunks in smoking area, rolled cutlery, 1/2 dozen tvs (hate them in restaurants), no salt & pepper on tables, no water offered, no dessert menu, but can be brought from the snack bar
Food: Pork was DRY & small, lyonaise potatoes were just boiled spuds with butter, 4 baby spinach leaves- worth $15 not $35!
Beef Wellington: asked if could be cooked medium rare, told medium only, came out well done, meat was very good cut, mushrooms consisted of a teaspoon of mushroom sauce, vegetables & jus very good, overall was good.
My verdict: when I pay $35 a main I expect a certain level of service & food quality, Arana League Club gets nowhere near this, a review of their pricing & service standards is needed. Would not recommend to others.

Should have known better!?. We decided to go down to our local club, well for two reasons, the husband likes the cheap pints and we were too lazy to actually go somewhere...

So we went to the more up market restaurant, called the Dennis Tims Alfresco Restaurant.

We started with the Duck and Oyster Mushroom Wontons - which I forgot had duck into them as all I could taste was mushroom. Also, the ginger pickle and lemon glaze were an interesting choice of garnish.

We then got our mains, my husband's was a perfectly cooked 300 gram Eye Fillet. Whereas mine was the Pork Loin Steak. It was a pretty small serve in my opinion. AND... I did something that I have never done in my life... I sent it back to the kitchen because it was dry and overcooked. The replacement came and it was only slightly better.....

On the bright side we did get a free bottle of wine with our meals...... Maybe next time the husband convinces me he wants to have a few pints I might have the steak??
