The spinach gnocchi was delicious but not really a gnocchi; more like a dumpling. Gnocchi sauce was creamy and full of onions, sundried tomato and mushrooms - licking my lips thinking about it. Pizza and garlic bread had thin crispy crust and were also yummy. Service quick and attentive but hardly any customers on a Tuesday lunch time. Only downside is the air con was not working too good on a hot summers day. My companion stuck to the vinyl seating! Reasonable pricing, value for money. Extensive menu which I would like to explore further. I will return.
Delocious food! The meat falls off the ribs, steak was perfectly cooked and tasty. Helpful and friendly staff, a very positive atmosphere. Extremely happy with the establishment and prices.
This has been the best service I have ever received at a restaurant in my life. I've experienced some good service, but nothing such as this. Thank you for making such an enjoyable evening for me and my extended family. Ribs simply outstanding, fell off the bone.
Always enjoy visiting The Grove. The Roots Bar is a great place to meet up for a casual drink and a snack. I've never had any issues accessing one of the advertised specials and enjoyed a $10 cocktail and $20 (generous) serve of ribs last Thursday night.
I had the Wagyu 300g steak and it was one of the best steaks I have ever had! I often frequent the more expensive restaurants in Brisbane but this steak was easily better than any of them
First time here. Went for dinner Friday night and found it unusual to have more staff than customers. One thing very off putting was that the floor in the dining area near the kitchen was very sticky to walk on.
We shared the Wagu rump and ribs. Steak was fantastic and ribs good although the star anise in the rib sauce was a bit over powering.
Probably would return for another visit
October 2015: We had two takeaway pizzas from Grove and were impressed with the special meal deal prices. I really liked the vegetarian pizza toppings and my husband enjoyed his meatlovers. Good bases and decent prices.

Update: March 2016
We dined in for lunch and each enjoyed a woodfired pizza. Or what we thought was a woodfired pizza, as it was listed on the menu. My husband loves woodfired pizzas and didn't think it tasted like it had been cooked woodfired. We noticed the woodfire oven at the front of the store wasn't on so asked the owner when he came to collect our plates. He said at the moment during the day it's too hot to have the fire on as it heats the restaurant. They make the bases in the woodfire oven the night before and then finish them out in the back kitchen when ordered. We found this very understandable but quite disappointing. Technically they ARE woodfired pizzas but not as we expected.
The pizzas were had were the meatlovers, four cheese, vegetarian and lamb. All pizzas had delicious toppings and good flavours. The small was smaller than I expected but it was enough for lunch.
Good but not as good as I was expecting.
Very good service. Went with some friends. Ribs were very good. Steak was excellent. I asked for medium rare and they cooked a perfect medium rare. The place is very well laid out and has a good vibe. 8/10. Will be back
8/10. This place is really cool and the staff have always been super nice to us. The majority of the time we only end up drinking here but I have had their pizzas a couple of times. The pizzas are good but fairly overpriced for the size. They do a $5 pizza deal with any (alcoholic) drink purchase on a Sunday which is always great. I sat upstairs once but it was a bit of a dull atmosphere, a lot of older people and families so make sure you head downstairs because that's where all the fun is to be had!
Pizza was Delish! but pricey. Food: I went here for dinner and ordered a pizza, which was outstanding, it is a little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for which is quality.
Staff: Are really friendly and will come fill your glass up at any chance
Tip: They do split bills and won't make a fuss about it!
Good food, reasonable prices and exceptional staff service. The fake plants in there add great ambiance but they need to be replaced or cleaned!!
In reply to review 25th Aug. We apologise if this is the impression you got from the order being requested from myself. Overall, we are a little confused at your review as on one hand you are unhappy with us requesting your order (appox 50 mins since your booking time) after being thoroughly explained the situation by myself and then on the other hand you make a comment about 'not' being explained and if you were, you could have told us that you would have been happy to wait considerable time. Slight contradiction. As per all Restaurants, booking times are staggered to ensure appropriate times are allowed for customer service and cooking times etc so that a particular area does not get over loaded and customers suffer. Your booking was for 7pm allowing for other groups etc to come in 7:30 and 7:45. As you witnessed, the group at 7:30 and 7:45 were large bookings. At 7:50 we needed to take an order from your table otherwise your food could have been delayed (as explained). Again, we apologise if this was impression you got but we believe is liaising with the customers instead of you sitting there wondering why the food is taking so long.
Second time was great. I had previously written a negative review of Grove based on our first visit. We dined here again for the second time as friends of ours wanted to meet up here for dinner again. It was like dining at a completely different place and I feel I have to edit my previous review. The waitress was wonderful and delivered our drinks super fast. She knew the menu well and our food came out all together in good time and was delicious. We were seated towards the back section of the restaurant which we enjoyed more than the front section. Perhaps we just got a bad night the first time or the manager has changed but we will be returning based on this much better experience.
Amazing ribs and accommodating staff. Fantastic atmosphere out the back bar for a relaxing drink in the evening, DJ playing tunes while we sat outside, even in winter nice under the heaters.Three of our group got ribs as a main and we couldn't fault them - tasty flavours and meat very tender. Beer battered chips were tops. Staff also hugely accommodating in preparing a meal for my mother in law with dietary requirements. Highly recommend this local ashgrove gem. We will be back.
Amazing food. I had the slow cooked beef cheeks with bacon wrapped green beans, caramelized onions and creamy mash potatoes. I was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it.
My partner had the 200gm steak with salad, chips and red wine jus. Also very lovely.
Dessert was the passion fruit creme brulé. It was heavenly.
Groovy grove. Loved the bar downstairs, decor upstairs was upmarket, a few families , nice to have a family friendly restaurant that's not a pub. squid with Asian coleslaw was devine. Service excellent, would definately go again.
Great food, the banana sticky date is to die for! Lovely coffee, quick service and friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more!
My event of the year. Thank you so much. Had my daughters 21st at the Grove in the downstairs bar. What a wonderful night we had enjoyed by all,and we had a vast difference in ages and likes. The staff were wonderful and the food great. The setup and decor allowed all of us to mix and chill when required. As a visitor to Brisbane everything was arranged by phone and all planing came together on the night to give my daughter a night she won't ever forget.
The lamb pizza keeps me coming back. My friends and I come back to the Grove every Tuesday for dinner and a game of trivia but it's the lamb pizza that keeps me coming back each week. The food is always consistently delicious but the service can be a little bit hit and miss.
Tried the takeaway pizza& ribs!! Glad to see, that the pizza was made a traditional way, and not one off the those frozen things, you get from other pizza joints!!!!!!!
Pleased with the pizza ribs and salad we ordered and the service was good
I had my 21st party here in the roots bar. The staff were really helpful and made the whole thing a breeze. Every guest raved about the party platters- special mention to the soft chicken skewers, amazing s&p calamari and the best pizzas ever!
Local Gem. We have lived in Ashgrove for 7 months now and have never eaten at the Grove, although I have been there for coffee. My wife and I decided to stop for lunch today as it was a wet Saturday and the smell of the wood fired pizza oven, from the street was fantastic. We shared 2 pizzas and would have to say that they were as good as any gourmet pizza we have ever eaten, and priced very well. The menu has a varied number of choices and a great beer, wine and cider range to choose from.
We were not aware of the recently launched bar downstairs and are now considering it as the venue for our daughters 21st birthday. The Grove really is a great local venue that caters for just about everything.
We loved it and the staff are fantastic.
Yes yes yes. Great service, awesome food, will definitely be back!!
Have eaten here a few times and it's consistently good. The staff are lovely, the environment well presented and the menu is great. I had the barramundi the other night and it was truly amazing.
Nice spot for a good pizza in Ashgrove. I have been going here every Tuesday night for over two years for Trivia in the Roots Bar (downstairs) and the $13 Pizza and Pot special (an individual-sized wood-fired pizza and pot of beer/cider or glass of wine/soft drink). This is a great deal considering the pizzas themselves are $16-17 on their own (although the deal isn't advertised anywhere inside that I have seen - only on their website - so it helps to know about it).
I have tried all the pizzas on the menu many times over - fortunately they brought out some new ones at the start of this year as we regulars were getting a bit bored! The range is now excellent with about 15 to choose from, including traditional favourites and some more adventurous combinations. My favourites are the chilli prawn (chilli/garlic prawns, chorizo, cherry tomatoes and bocconcini) and the smoked chicken (with red onion, roast capsicum, pine nuts and honey mustard mayo swirl). They can be a little inconsistent with their level of toppings at times, but I probably only notice because I've eaten so many of them. They are certainly never 'over-topped' though. The bases are thin and crisp and always cooked perfectly. The chips with aioli and tomato sauce are also a regular favourite.
The wait staff and bartenders are generally friendly, although occasional errors occur - if you order a Cacciatore pizza, make sure they don't bring you a Capricciosa (this has happened to us a couple of times). They have also been known to run out of certain tap beers/cider but that is happening less often than it used to.
Trivia is lots of fun too!
Damn Good Steak. Dined here last year with meal voucher. Service was impecable, with compliments to the waitress with the irish (I think) accent. She was extremely catering for our needs and checked up on us often but not over the top. The food was delicious with high grades to the wagyu steak, cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were large, prices reasonable and overall atmosphere was wonderful. Recommended to all foodies.
Fantastic Place to Eat. As the night went on, more guests arrived and the Grove soon lit up with it's playful, modern atmosphere. The steaks are absolutely fantastic, and as my wife tells me, so were the salads.Catch the $15 Rump during the week and you're laughin'.
Drinks were reasonably priced and I suggest you check out their beer garden down below, it's definitely worth it on a nice night.
Worth Every Cent!. The exterior is misleading to the size and style of this venue. Great, professional atmosphere-very trendy and comfortable. A little expensive for meal size but delicious all the same. My partner first went on Valentines Day-we chose the special set menu and were very impressed but tongueing for more! Service is fantastic and could not fault it-or the food (other than there not being enough) We still get food off the T/A menu and have never been disappointed! Highly reccommended!
Downstairs Bar on Wednesday. The downstairs bar on a wednesday night is fantastic, lots of people are there and the bartenders are always friendly and never forget a face. I have eaten here a few times and loved me food but was disappointed by the managements response to an accident made by a waiter. An extra serve of wedges was given to our table, we made it clear that they were no ordered and the waiter said okay you can have them anyway or they will be thrown out. When we received the bill we were asked to pay so adamantly that we put the correct money for everything on the table excluding the wedges and walked out to be chased down the street by the angry manager.
My girlfriend and I finally went and had a blast! Cocktails were stock standard though, the long island ice tea needs to be worked on. Long glass boys!! The Service and the food was just brilliant. Our waiter was just incredible and loved his job. Definitely going back.
Thank you. For restoring my faith in Brisbane's ability to serve great food.
My girlfriend and I just had a lovely school night dinner here. Lamb salad (I am on a diet) and steak with Diane sauce washed down with a lovely glass of shiraz.
Lamb was cooked beautifully, tasted fantastic and portion size was good - I was not left wanting (well maybe wanting some carbs but diet says "no!").
My girlfriend LOVED her steak (also cooked perfectly) and couldn't stop raving about the Diane sauce.
The fit out is great and it was lovely and cosy, perfect for a winter night.
Great food, wine and service - thank you, and...I'll be back.
Great steak. Admittedly pricexy but i thought the steak was deicious and the surroundings beautiful.
Will definitely go again but would also definitely go more often if they had a reguars night or something a bit cheaper in a deal with a drink or similar.
Perfect Pizzas. I went on a Tuesday night with a few other friends, I ordered a pizza, which was beautiful! the right amount of every topping. Other people ordered the ribs and smoked chicken pasta. I had a taste of both. The ribs had bulky meat on them which was a nice change from the usual "bones only" ribs you usually get. The smoked chicken pasta was a tad spicy after a while but still nice!
Service was great, we even had a new employee serving us. Very attentive to our needs.
Only cons would be the dessert menu and waiting time for it. Not many options (only about 5). Took a while to recieve our dessert.
All in all, a great night with great food.
Go on Sunday before 5 for $2 pizza They didn't put on enough topping on one of the pizzas but at $2 who is complaining?
Just what we were looking for!. PROS: Love the ambience, decor, food?!?! Well priced!
CONS: Poor location, easily drive past unnoticed!!
However, if they were closer to the city, they would be soo busy we would not be able to get a table!! Will surely be back! Trust me, try them out?!? ;)
Pure Delight From the service, atmosphere, food to ambience. I thoroughly recommend! The Grove Establishment is tucked into Ashgrove's up and coming central hub. Well located, easy to get to and plenty of on street parking surrounding the venue. We were greated by a lady behind the counter with a warm smile and genuine friendly banter. Service for drinks, meals and water was above par. Meals were out in no time at all. The quality of the food was the real reason behind this review. Entree: char grilled marinated squid ..gf.. 14 chorizo, bell pepper & rocket salad, lime & wasabi mayo Wow so fresh, so light the PERFECT start to a hearty meal. Main: BBQ pork spare ribs 24 ribs braised in the oven then flame grilled served with our very own BBQ sauce, coleslaw, beer battered chips The grade of their meat is of a high standard, sides are fresh and amazed me with their unique taste. I would go as far as to say THE BEST coleslaw I have ever tasted. Desert was sadly skipped because I couldn't
