I don't know why it took me so long to review this place. I used to live next door to this bar, I would have long days at work and stumble home after, I would walk in Mr Chester asking for whatever they have in the kitchen.
I never been disappointed. I always thought this place serves the best pasta in Brisbane.
I went back today after nearly 7 months.
To my surprise, Mr Chester does not only serve the best pasta, they also serve the best gnocchi in Brisbane!
My friends and I went to Mr Chester on the weekend for lunch and ordered a cheese platter and prosciutto pizza to share. We also ordered a glass of wine based on the recommendation of the friendly staff and it was just what I was wanting.
The pizza was delicious but I loved all the different things they added to the cheese platter. I can’t wait until we can visit again and try more of their wine and food. As well as order another of those cheese platters!
There’s plenty of seating as well for large groups and it’s central right off the heart of the Valley.
So I have a friend who is a really big fan of wine bars. Over the last several months she had compiled a list of wine bars that she had wanted to try in Brisbane and asked me to join her on this venture. Intrigued, I agreed. First up on our hit list was Mr Chester which had opened a couple years back on Ann Street in Fortitude Valley. Taking a quick uber over after work, we were quite famished when we arrived.
Went here with the partner for a Friday night pre-dinner drink.
We ordered wines, as well as the burrata and fresh sourdough. Deliciously light and creamy, the burrata was a good accompaniment to our wines and wetted our appetites for the rest of the evening.
Friendly and efficient service. Casual ambience with assorted limited indoor seating. Reasonable prices.
Overall, a good wine bar.
A great hand-picked wine selection which offers something for everyone. The knowledge and insight offered from behind the bar definitely adds to the experience.
We were blown away by the food. Simple food with the best ingredients and an impossible amount of flavour. We had the Vegan Pizza, Steak Tartare and the Parmesan Fettuccine and we will order all of these again!
These guys are passionate about what they do and it shows in the product and service.

A great addition to the Fortitude Valley precinct, Mr Chester has a great variety of rotating wines and their chef Alex is extremely knowledgeable and interactive. We will definitely be back.
Found this cool wine bar on Zomato while walking through the Valley. Fantastic service. They don’t have a wine list as it’s an interactive bar. The sommelier will ask you a few questions, get you to try some wines and then recommend a drop. I’ve been here twice since as the Pinot noir recommendations were spot on. The second time I got to try their cheese board and it was superb. Top quality cheeses complemented my Pinot to perfection. Absolute hidden gem!

Discovered this gem on zomato. Thanks Zomato! This is a really nice and intimate venue if you are looking for a quiet spot to catch up with friends or your partner for great wine and cheese meat platters. What more could you want! There isn’t a menu as the wine can be selected based on what you are in the mood for. We loved the meat and cheese. Perfect for couples or small group of friends.
Came here after work with some colleagues, and it was so nice to find a new place in the area which is a bit more classy for after work drinks.
The selection of wines was awesome and was a great experience; the guy working there came down to us and talked us through the wines and what we could have. Some amazing red wines!!!

Great wines and friendly approachable staff that engage you on the information about it all. Polished concrete flooring and minimalistic designs make this a very pleasant bar to visit.
This place has Amazing food and wine, staff are amazing and very knowledgeable. Great music in a great spot, already cannot wait to come back!
This place has a great ambiance and decor. So happy that Brisbane is starting to introduce some really cool venues. The wine list is amazing, but the knowledge of the staff is even better. Really enjoyed this place a couple of times for some afternoon drinks.
The terrine was so good and I loved the honeycomb served with cheese! a nice place to bring a book and curl up on one of the arm chairs with a glass of wine.
Great menu! Stocking an expansive range of beautiful, rare, boutique wines. I had a lovely charcuterie board here accompanied by a smashing glass of red... It was obviously that good because I now can't recall the name :( If you are a wine and cheese connoisseur this is the new go to!
Highly recommend checking in @ Mr Chester! The atmosphere was perfect for relaxing after a long day at work. The staff were fantastic and more than happy to sit and talk us through their array of cheeses and wine. Our cheese platter was on point and paired brilliantly with the wine they suggested. Definitely coming back to sample more on the menu!! ☺️☺️
Subtle atmosphere adds to the ambience. Sommelier behind counter, Luke, explains beautiful wines in layman's terms. I appreciate that. Cheese board is generous.
We went to this place to celebrate my birthday with a bottle of Aligote and two dishes of this beautiful server's recommendation. The dishes were great pairing with the wine we picked. The cheese salad made a fresh start and the pasta was a gem. 100 percent coming back.

And good service too. We had a little chat about the wines and I was even given a couple of tastings before deciding.

Brisbane has turned on the rain this weekend and I dragged myself out of the hotel and into Mr Chester. Lucky me! I have just had the good fortune to try the Cioppino, the Italian cousin of a Bouillabaisse and it was exceptional. So good in fact I may need to move North.
The Gnocchi? Stunning! Service? Stunning! the Wines? Stunning. A big fat 5 stars if you ask moi
Such a cute wine bar in the valley!! Food was EXCELLENT, and the atmosphere and wine were great. Will definitely be coming back here for more food, drinks and good times.

The $50 tasting board is slight expensive (I'd say $40 worth so close to it) but that would not stop me from buying it again at all! It was delicious, with two cheeses multiple meats, and a variety of pickled veggies and jams. Might do with more picked veggies or some olives. The local rooftop honey on the platter was amazing.
The wine choices were good, but maybe could do with a bit more variance. They might also improve the tasting board of they kept a few choices to paired the tasting board a bit more with the wine choices as blue cheese does not go well with distinct red wines. I would not expect or ask for a perfect pair at the price as their are too many wine choices and it'd be too much cheese to keep and potentially waste but the blue definitely did not go.
Regardless definitely worth a visit and I'll definitely be back.
The best lamb ragu I have ever had. Pappardelle pasta hand made in front of you and a wine list for the perfect pairing to your meal.
