Review Shalom Indonesian Restaurant - Brisbane

Winston Wong
Perfectly balanced peanut sauce šŸ¤¤ Used to visit more often when I lived closer, and have definitely missed these lovely Indonesian flavours. This time we came on a public holiday which meant surcharge, but this was balanced by the 10% off when paying with Payo. We had: * Sate ayam + nasi, $17 - chicken satay with steamed rice * Gado Gado, $14 - mixed salad with peanut sauce * Mie ayam pangsit goreng, $14 - mushroom chicken noodle with fried wonton * Es Cendol, $7 - cendol ice Seriously that peanut sauce was so moreish I'd be happy spooning it over plain rice and calling that a meal šŸ‘Œ

Went there last night. Amazing food. We were so happy with all the food we had last night. Flavours were very authentic. The staff were also very helpful and lovely. Weā€™ll be back

Great authentic Indonesian dishes at this restaurant. My wife is from Bali and she loves this place (as do I). We eat here weekly and have never been disappointed. A must try if you're in Brisbane and enjoy the flavours of Indonesia.

Cosy little Indonesian Restaurant in Sunnybank frequented by the local Indonesian/ South East Asian populace. While the service and ambience is below average, the restaurant's chef who hails from Surabaya makes up for it with some authentic Indonesian fare. When you are searching for authentic Indonesian food and see a restaurant packed with Indonesians, you know you have struck gold. It is uncommon indeed do you get a restaurant in Australia that does not modify the taste of it's food to suit Aussie taste buds.

Recommendation: Nasi Campur Shalom in Sunnybank is one of my favourite restaurants. It's our go to place when we can't decide what to cook for dinner. I must have ordered the Nasi Campur more than a dozen times since we discovered Shalom. I love the balance of textures and flavours on that plate. You get to try a bit of everything as opposed to just ordering the grilled chicken with rice. The entrees and soups are excellent as well.

Not a regular customer here. But after finish a job nearby and looking for something for lunch. Saw Shalom Malay resturant and gave it a try. Staff and service was good. So I ordered a beef curry with rice. Rice was well cooked, I am ok with that. But the beef curry just provided little amount of sauce (see photo), may be around 2 table spoons only. The beef was super tough, very hard to chew. For $13 meal, may be not worth it. A bit disappointed after a hard work in the morning.

Shalom is a restaurant that offer various Indonesian foods or dishes. Their foods are so delicious and the price of each dish is reasonable. If you like a (bit) spicy food, you should try their grilled chicken or duck with green chilli. If you're not a fan of chilli, you can always ask them to put the chilli aside. You also want to try their Oxtail Soup, it's so good especially during winter.
Putri Matta Unnardi
One of the few Indonesian restaurants in town. Located at the corner of the Pinelands Plaza, the store has both indoor and semi-outdoor seating areas, capable of accommodating a huge number of customers.

My all-time favourite is the Gado-Gado. The vegetables were fresh, topped with flavourful peanut sauce. However, I also enjoyed the Iga Bumbu Rujak; the meat was tender and juicy, while the sweet sauce pairs with it perfectly. The noodles were also great, specifically the Mi Ayam Jamur and the Mi Abang-Abang (the two have slightly different sauce and toppings). Another menu that was delicious was the Soto Betawi; tasted so authentic!

For the portion size given and the price, I would definitely come back for some Indonesian food in the future!

Authentic Indonesian food
The food is delicious with authentic Indonesian flavour, the portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. It's a good spot for a quick lunch but not a place to linger!

Came alone and had the batagor, bakso abang abang and empal goreng penyet. Prices were on the cheaper side, with portions also being smaller for the smaller dishes, however the service was quick which was a major plus! Great for quick, cheap and tasty food!
Sheila
I had Ayam Bakar Penyet and Batagor.

They have variety of Ayam Bakar and Ayam Goreng which is awesome. Iā€™d like to try them all. First of all, they are not expensive. Also, their chili or sambal is superb.

The batagor is okay I guess. I thought they have both Baso and Tahu well because Batagor stands for Baso Tahu Goreng but sadly this is only Tahu Goreng with peanut sauce. But the peanut sauce is awesome

They also serve snacks or jajanan like martabak, risoles, etcetc as well as teh kotak šŸ’•

Good flavors. Portions smaller than average. The grilled chicken and beef ribs had good flavors and it's authentic. Fish/beef ball soup for entree was $7 and is a very small bowl of clear soup with 6 ball.

This popular Indonesian restaurant continues to improve. Walking in at 1pm the restaurant is bustling with hungry diners. I place my order and pay at the counter.

My Sop Buntut (Oxtail Soup) is aromatic and intense, a truely delicious soup. The serving of Oxtail is generous and cooked just right. I love the chewy texture of Oxtail. Thank you guys!

Authentic and beautiful Indonesian food. Very spicy too if you choose spicy dishes. This is simply wonderful flavourful food and quite cheap.
Misscharlot
loving the gadoĀ gado (salad with peanut sauce) here, and the nonĀ spicy option of roast beef - empal bumbu rujak. is so charcoal grilled, loving the charcoal flavour. if you are up for a little spice, go for the green chili beef, the spice just keep coming to the throat, burning but not like a hot red one.

Shalom Indonesia Restaurant has a small amount of variety of food so I was surprised that at dinner time on a Thursday night, the restaurant had pretty good business. I don't have much experience with Indonesian food so I'm unable to distinguish if it was authentic or not. But in my opinion, the food was ordinary. Service was good, but the wait was a tad too long.
I ordered the Fish Ball soup (1), Tong Seng (2), and Fried beef with the Shalom sauce (3).Ā
(1) Although the soup was tasty and the fishballs were bouncy, it came out in a small bowl and for $7, it's not worth it.Ā
(2) I found this dish slightly too watery, and not much lamb was in it, mostly cabbage. It had a fairly nice taste.Ā
(3) Beef was fairly tender, but slightly dry. Portion was not very big either. The Shalom Sauce was the best part about it - it was spicy, salty and sour.Ā
Overall, I would not recommend eating here as the food is average, and portions aren't enough considering the price.

We were shopping at the Pineland Plaza on Sunday lunch time. When we walked near this restaurant than weĀ realised that we had not been visited it for nearly three years and definitely it should be the time to re-visit. Correct me if I am wrong. It looked like that the management has been changed since my last visit. Indoor dining area looked more tidy and neat.Ā Dishes offering on the menu are similar so we ordered our favourite Light Ox Tail Soup and Satay Chicken Skewers and we put an extra order of Spicy beef ball soup vermicelli to recall our episode in Bali. There is a slightly changed that we needed to pay for steamed rice, which was free with the Ox Tail SoupĀ in our last visitĀ so we gave it up. Dishes came to the table quicker than before but portions seemed smaller. Taste were similar but the peanut flavour in the satay sauce has been reduced. Overall production was average and I think the management should pay attention to it because I have had quite a few Indonesian meals in other restaurant which deserved thumb-up.

May, 2015

I love to have Indonesian meals in this restaurant. Price is cheap and food is tasteful. Particularly love to order the satay skewers, Ox Tail Soup and the Fried Tofu. They will follow a bowl of rice for every dish that you order. You have to take the food with the rice together otherwise it will be too salty.

Visited this little place in Pinelands for the first time for an early dinner tonight at about 5:30pm.

We started with the tofu in satay sauce which was lovely due to the satay sauce being amazing. The tofu wasn't the best ever but it was good.Ā Then we had the Nasi Kuning set menu and the lamb satay with peanut sauce.

The flavours were wonderful and the service was prompt but the presentation is lacking and customer service ok but not great. Prices are moderate with the two of us eating and a can of drink each for $38.
Will @ FastGAMSAT
The Verdict:
Hole-in-the-wall eatery with potential. Will return to try out other dishes like oxtail soup.

The Context:

I woke late, and was stuck having lunch around 2pm, and meeting friends for an early 5:30pm dinner before catching Brian Cox & Robin Ince at Brisbane Convention Centre at 7:30pm. As a result, I considered a smaller feed, which meant I could consider entrees, which opened me up to considering places I don't usually go to.

Came across Shalom on Yelp - I've seen the shop many times at Pinelands, and was intrigued by its resilience in the cut-throat Sunnybank food scene despite its unassuming appearance, and decided to try it, as I'm unfamiliar with Indo cruisine (unless you count IndoMie instant noodles).

The Vibe:
Small store with approx 30 seats in the shop, and maybe 20 seats outside.

The restaurant was still nearly full at 2:30pm on Saturday - most of whom seem like Indonesians: Ethic restaurants embraced by its own people always bodes well. The vibe is lively, with discussions and regular laughter from most tables.

The music was unassuming (I couldn't remember what it was), and was community radio, as Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk interrupted the music to ask for votes.

The Deal:
I was eyeing the ox tail soups ($12), then came across the grilled beef ribs ($13) and ordered that.

Note that the main meals don't come with rice - that's $1 extra (for a large bowl-worth [6-inch wide and 4-inch tall]).

The Feed:
The beef ribs come with the bones removed. There's no plating effort to speak of, and the meat isn't off-the-grill hot (the thickest piece wasn't even warm) - it's disconcerting when the $1 rice was the hottest thing on the whole order.

Still, the meat is deliciously marinaded - although that could be cos I don't eat the standard Chinese/Malay/Singaporean/Canto/Taiwanese meat-&-rice dishes enough, and this is what they usually taste like. The meat also came with significant amounts of untrimmed fat, which might dissuade others - but was up my alley.

The Notes:
Outside food and drink seems to be fine - the waitress didn't comment on the bottle of iced tea I brought.

EFTPOS minimum $10. Clearly ask for an EFTPOS receipt if required, as their NAB machines somehow can't print copies after cancelling Customer Copy.

There's no table service - you have to order and pay at the counter first. I sat around for 5 minutes until I noticed this written on the menu.

The takeaway boxes (500ml) are 50c each. If you like to stretch the value of your eat-out meals like I do, I suggest BYO-ing. This isn't just to save 50c - if you have no change, and you can't charge 50c to your card (EFTPOS minimum $10), you have to break a note and end up with shrapnel unnecessarily.
Eatsleeeeptravel
Relax atmosphere, very tight space, the service is so so. Some of the food are quite good, can be very spicy for those who are not used to the heat. The rice seems to be always overcooked or soggy. Price is quite expensive, so we only go there for if we crave Indonesian food.
David Santoso
They increased the price to be a rip off. The meal is on average $13 and they charge $2 for rice now (previously rice is included). As an indonesian $15 for an average meal of rawon is just to expensive as a student like me to enjoy a meal. They came up with a lame 10% discount if you show my student card but they wont even consider it because im not a member of some indonesian club. This resto just went downhill mate
Boonito Kartono
Shalom was my favourite restaurant until they increased their price to be totally unfriendly to students. The food takes 20 minutes to come although it was a simple meal (tongseng). They come up with this 10% discount asking to show student ID but the waiter insists that I have to be a club member of some unknown club.

Great Indonesian food! Our favourite dish to order is fried steak with Balinese sauce! The Balinese sauce is amazing super spicy and taste delicious would definitely recommend!
Peter Ke Shen Pang
The spices and sauces are very special. The food is just average. But the sauces made the foods nice to eat! The service is nice. If you like spicy food you can give it a try. Personally, I think the rice dishes are a better choice for this cafe. :)
Yohana Setiati
Love the tongseng meal (lamb curry, super tender meat and just right tasting of the spice combinations), the simplicity of the menu, batagor, siomay bandung, gadho-gadho salad, the sambal and ice cendol or es campur, and it is affordable too. Perfect
Leish
Love this place, have eaten here many times and the food is always consistent. I can't get enough of the tofu with peanut sauce it's super delicious. I haven't tried much on the menu yet as a lot of it seems a bit spicy for my liking I always order the non spicy chicken with rice always tasty every time!
Karmen Chak
A small cosy restaurant found within the Pinelands. I quite like this restaurant. You tend to have a little "home feeling" my friend said (since he's from Indonesia). The prices are really cheap and the portions of the meal are worth the price!:)
Dwilara Setyouji
no more the best indonesian food in brisbane except we found them in shalom indonesian restaurant. i invites you to try the special indonesian food in brisbane...come to shalom indoneisan restourant!!!
Samie
We finally made it to Shalom at Sunnybank.. and this looks like a dinner table you'd find in Jakarta! The food was pretty good - their mie had perfect texture, the satay had that deliciously smokey element and the drinks were sweet and extremely satisfying!!
Irene Diocares
Have eaten twice here in the past week and couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewer. If you've ever enjoyed eating at a traditional wahrung in Bali, you will love this place. Yes, the prices are cheap but the food is wholesome and made authentically. Have enjoyed a number of dishes, and plan on trying the whole menu!
The fried steak is marinated then deep fried - really tasty - try it with the Balinese sauce: a complex, fresh chilli sauce that is hot but delicious. Similarly, the fried chicken with Balinese sauce is also good. I've taken the Balinese sauce home with me twice now!
The chicken mushroom noodles with beef balls are wholesome - with the chicken and mushroom sautƩed in sweet soy before topping fresh noodles. You can add your soup or keep it separate as you wish.
Don't underestimate the chicken noodle soup either, it is amazing - the stock base is very well made and perfect for this cool weather.
Lastly - the satay chicken skewers: they are as if you were having them from a Balinese roadside stand: perfectly charcoaled with a delicious peanut satay drizzled with kecap manis.
Love this place - good value, beautifully prepared authentic food with lovely service. If you love Balinese / Indonesian food, you will enjoy eating here.

Good Indonesian Food
My Indonesian friends brought us to visit this place. We got salad and 2 main dishes. Gado Gado aka salad tasted good with their creamy peanut sauce ($11). ā€œGrilled chicken with balinese sauceā€ was tender and tasty ($10). But ā€œLamb satay with peanut sauceā€ was disappointing as it was too chewy to eat ($13). They served big portions so it was good value for money. Then, we tried their drinks as our desserts. Combination Ice ($5) was good. The toppings (e.g., avocado and grass jelly) were in the bottom. Cendol Ice ($5) also tasted nice but too little green jelly. Overall, I think it is a good place to try.
Eat-outer
This is definitely not my kind of place. The quality of food and cooking was reflected in their cheaper prices. The meal tasted like clumsy below average home cooked food. I felt offended when we were served "Indonesian Styled Dim Sum" which was chopped up poor quality frozen dim sum covered in tasteless satay sauce, kecap manis, and chili sauce. For the Lamb curry, the sauce was bland and the "lamb" was actually mutton which gives a powerful and unpleasant smell. Fried steak was basically deep fried pieces of beef that was made irrecognizable by covering it with the sauce. We sat and ate in silence. We simply couldn't find any enjoyment or a single positive to say about the place. Trust me, you don't want to go here.

I don't have a developed understanding of Indonesian cuisine so I cannot comment on the taste in great detail. I'll go so far as to say their dishes are good and that I enjoy it. The price is reasonable and the service is always quick. I'd say it's a good place to try out Indonesian cuisine in Brisbane.

Came in early on a Monday night around 645, place was empty but filled up quickly. The service was fast, and the food prices were all around $10.

I had the deep fried tofu, spicy chicken noodle, as well as the cendol ice.

The deep fried tofu was decent, it was crispy outside and dense inside. It came with a smooth peanut sauce which finished the entree off pretty well.

The iced cendol is basically some cendol agar, in a coconut milk drink. I quite liked it, and will order it again!

The portion for the spicy chicken noodle was HUGE! It looks super underwhelming, but once you get to it, the amount of noodles are never ending! The noodles were tasty, and the chicken was extremely flavourful.

Tl;dr it is a pretty decent place, and It is quite worth it, money wise.
Yumi269
They don't have a great variety of Indonesian food and it's different than the hawker style flavour you'd get in Indonesia but it's definitely full of flavour and would satisfy your Indonesian food cravings.

I always come for the Batagor - here it's pretty much fried tofu with peanut sauce - but there's something different about the texture that hooks me in.

The grilled chicken is also well done - tender and flavoursome even without the additional sauces. Same goes with the ribs.

The gado-gado is ok - but doesn't have much filling for the price. You're better off getting peanut sauce and making your own salad at home.

The chicken noodle with beef balls are also yum.

All in all pretty happy!
SY
Had the:Ā
1. Tofu & Tempe - Mehhhhhhh....first and last time I'm having this here
2. Ayam Bakar - N.I.C.E. The sambal that comes with it: S.U.P.E.R. N.I.C.E
3. Cendol - Awesome!
4. Ais Avocado - Super Awesome!Ā

Yup, definitely coming back again. Happy Tummy :).

This place is 100% false advertising. The 5 star reviews on here are actually fabricated. The food items are actually sample stock photos, the food looks nothing like what is pictured on the menu. And the food? DISGUSTING. A SIN AGAINST INDONESIAN CUISINE. We ordered a Tofu Salad and it had prawn crackers, no tofu at all, clumpy satay sauce and overall it tasted awful. I ordered the Deep Fried Tofu AND IT WAS NOT EVEN TOFU-- IT WAS DEEP FRIED DOUGH BALLS.

I seriously cannot believe this place exists. I'm posting this on Zomato, Facebook, Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google to make sure everyone knows how terrible the food is! If you're wondering why they have such great reviews, they are all fabricated. DO NOT GO HERE!

This is one of the few Indonesian restaurants in Brisbane. The food is very tasty and their rice is quite generous. I love their 'nasi padang' and fried chickens. Their chili sauce is only for the brave...
Masha Hiel
it is not appreciated when you get served before many others, issue with the staff manners not even apologize. very dissapointed service we were the second people to order and the last receive our meal, this restaurant is ok food but way under staff they definetely need more staff.

Love it - authentic taste and good value for the money. Been coming back for five times in two months, though I'm not Indonesian. I love there food tried chicken satay with rice, vegetable salad, chicken curry with rice cube, grilled chicken, fried tofu, chicken soup, light oxtail soup.

Each serving is generous in portion and i considered right value for the price I paid. And good customer service and friendly staff

Highly recommended :)

Seven ot of Ten. We ordered as side dishes: Fried Tofu with sweet soy and peanut sauce, and Empal (beef). As the Main we ordered chicken satay, Goat curry (gule kambing) and Ayam bakar (grilled chicken).

We gave overal 7 out of 10. The goat curry: the soup was very delicious but unfortunately we were not served the proper parts of the goat meat, mostly what we got was fat on big chunks of bones and also skin, had there been more meat, it would have been perfect. Please don't serve the fats and the skin, while in Indonesia people might like it, but not here. Those are better served to the dogs but not full paying customer. The Ayam bakar (grilled chicken) tastes alright, the chilly was nice but the chicken didn't seem to have been grilled, it's oily as if it has been fried and there is no grilled flavour in it.

The Fried Tofu was perfect, the Empal is great, the satay is delish. So overal the food is yummy, just make sure if you order goat curry to mention that you want more meat than fat or tendons or skins.

Home cooked (style) indonesian.. Very nice food - we had the steak and chicken and took home ox tail soup and ribs. all were very delicious.
authentic as!

A hit - will be a returning customer for sure!. So happy to have finally tried Shalom. Have been there a few times now and have not been disappointed. The beef rendang is perfect! Chicken noodles are yummy and the fried chicken is delicious too. So glad to have this just around the corner. And it's halal too. Thumbs up!
Indahim
Been there 3 times. It's the only a few halal outlets. Didn't taste like Indonesian food. The fried noodle taste MSG and very salty. The Balinese chicken was served with rice and eggs. Wouldn't be better to have a bit of veggies like cucumber? Too bad there are not many indo restaurant
JK
Tried the Ayam Penyat and it was yum! Value for money and will be back to try the other menu items.
Cookek90
AWESOME Food!!!. Fantastic Tasty Food. Very good money value. Will be back for more. Thanks for the great nite out

I just go crazy when ever we go to Shalom . Prices are just fantastic and you can guts out on so many different dishes . Taste like Mamas cooking . ( im Indonesian ) they're Es Cendol and Es Campur is my partners favourite !
ForeverFoodie
Been here a few times and the menu is absolutely delicious. The chicken satays are awesome. The prices are reasonable especially as Indonesian people aren't big eaters. Love Indonesian food and always will. Count myself lucky to live near this hidden gem :)
Jamakinmehungry
Authentic Indonesian. Shalom brings me back to Asian with their kuehs, satays and local spicy food. Great and would come back for a casual dinner with family again :)

Wow. Finally found real indo food. Spicy and authentic. Definately going back again ;)

Best indonesian food in Brisbane.
Try the Sate chicken, beef ribs or the rawon/oxtail soup. Two thumbs up!
Ally.hegen
Moderate to Good. The satay chicken here was good....a bit plain tho
Yumami
Crazy Hot Chilli!. This place is a good little find in Pinelands. If you want authentic indo this is the place to go. My favourite is the fried chicken with their homemade chilli. Soo hot but so addictive! Better for takeaway as not much atmosphere going on here.
Bianca
Just left this resto literally 10 minutes ago, terrible service and rude staff gave us a table and seated us then told us that the table was intended for people who came in after us who had a booking. I asked if they wanted us to leave and couldn't get a proper answer. I had no problem leaving but they need to know its not right to put customers in such an awkward situation. Not professional at all.
Chilli Monster
Love the chilli... As close to real Indo food as you'll find in Brisbane. Very friendly Indo staff and cheap.
Hungrydude
UGLY AUSSIES... So frustrated with those who eat at an authentic Indonesian/Malay restaurant and then go on to complain that the food may be okay for Indonesians; however should be cooked differently for Aussies. Who do these ignorant people think they are? .. truly the ugly Aussie. My wife is Indonesian and craves the tastes at Shalom because it is authentic!, especially during her pregnancy. We are heading back there today as part of our wedding anniversary. There are very few authentic Indonesian restaurants in Brisbane. We should value Shalom. Some would be better off eating at McDonalds and writing their reviews about their experience there.

-----13 Jul, 2013-----

HOMESICKNESS BEATER!. My wife and I have been looking for an authentic Indonesian restaurant for the 4 years that she's been living here. Until tonight we'd failed; however tonight at Shalom SUCCESS! My wife is 38 wks pregnant and was craving authentic rendang and nothing else would do. Shalom didn't disappoint. Please pay no attention to those reviewers suggesting that the food isn't authentic. Maybe they have issues because it is authentic and not some Aussie or Chinese version. Great, authentic Indonesian food at very reasonable prices.
The Devourer Of Food
Once in a while you come across a little taste of somewhere you have been. Well, this is close enough. Quite impressed with the rendang ... should look at the soto ayam too.

Beautiful foods. The foods, the price and the location - are beautiful. That oxtail soup is one of the best I ever tasted. Great to know Shalom Indonesian Restaurant. Bravo! Will be your faithful customer - guaranteed!

Authentic Indonesian Food. Shalom Restaurant is a welcomed addition to the limited amount of Indonesian restaurants in Brisbane. While the others around town cater more for the Western taste and budget, Shalom is easier on the pocket and tastes delicious too..

The dishes are a cross-section of Indonesian food staples like beef rendang, grilled chicken (with the best chilli in town, shalom chilli), chicken noodle and gado-gado (Indonesian salad with peanut sauce).

My favourite is the Iga Bakar which are grilled beef ribs and topped with the Shalom Sambal sauce.. the juicy sweetness of the meat mixed with the heat of the chilli makes this an addictive dish..
Excellence Taste
Superb for my homesick feelings. Wow - perfecto! this is truly Indonesian dishes like my family home cooking - worth it to first visit and guarantee for the next and next day. Thank you Shalom - you are healing my home sick of family cooking.

Nice to try.... Was nice to try for a new experience, but I'll never get my crew to go there again. I myself, didn't mind it, but it wasn't liked by the rest of my crew. SIL really liked her Gado Gado salad though. Serious language barrier, but that doesn't worry me, just glad they are giving it a go and bringing different cuisine to us. Would like to try again. There was a line up outside, so maybe we just chose the wrong things off the menu...
Ww
Not worth going. The food portion is very small. The grilled fish was very small. The ox tail and special lamb mail meal were very greasy. The service was not good either.
DianaW
Diana. Very disapointing meal for me here, hate to bag it, but it just didn't cut it for me. I love simple spicy food & I know Idonesian restaurants are few & far between, but this was just overdone with the over sweet peanut sauce which just swamped everything I ordered. The only positive thing I can say was a great chilli hit.
Raymond Mcalister
Raymond. Lucky I had a coupon for here as I didn't enjoy any of the food am sorry to say. My fish dish was served almost cold & had no flavour as was the starter deep fried tofu which was like leather couldn't chew it & doused in an overly sweet peanut sauce
Jojo
Loving it.... I'm so happy my cousin told me about this place. I just couldn't decide what to order when I get there, there are too many tantalising meals. My husband and I ended ordering Mushroom chicken noodle (Mie Ayam Jamur), Fried steak with chilli sauce (Empal shalom) , fried fish cake with vinegar sauce (Pempek) and Cendol Ice (Es Cendol). Now I have to say the mushroom chicken noodle was just perfect. Just the way I've eaten it back in Indonesia. Really liked the Fried steak too, hubby said it was a bit too hot, but hey... Indonesian food are s'pose to be hot. The fishcake was a bit of a disappointment, the shell wasn't crunchy enough and the sauce/soup... there's something missing in it and the serve of cucumber in it was rather sad, as there was hardly any. The cendol, I have to say probably below average. I dont think it really made the cut for me as I have had many whilst being in Indonesia, however hubby was quite pleased with it. I would still def go back, as this is by far the best indonesian restaurant in Brisbane.
Just Island
I love indonesian food. Tried the food at the sydney branch. loved it and was happy that there is one in brisbane. loved the grilled chicken and fried steak with rujak sauce, deep fried tofu with peanut sauce. very authentic indonesian flavours, complete with chilli sauce and ketchup manis. beef rendang was a little disappointing as the meat was not tender enough. there isn't much indonesian food places in brisbane suburbs - you will go back to shalom for more!
Zoe Leong
But all in all, I really enjoyed the food there. Iā€™ve always been a fan of Indonesian cuisine and really happy to discover this place near to home. Iā€™m sure weā€™ll be back for more spiciness.
Riini
I saw on the menu also they have avocado juice. WHAT NOW!?!? This is a special Indonesian drink. Avocado is blended with a bit of coffee and condensed milk. Western people might go ewww... but this could be one of national drinks in Indonesia. Shalom's avocado juice is very dark, I'm not sure why. While it pales in comparison if you drink it in Indo, it would do for my craving.
Strawbeari3
Shalom is an Indonesian restaurant on Brisbane's south side, and possibly one of the few Indonesian restaurant in Brisbane. Having only opened a few months ago, and located in a shop lot that had failed for many others, this place was a bit of an enigma to us.
