I see there has been some pretty low scoring for Cactus Republic, however we must have been there on a good night because our food was pretty good & service was great too. All our dishes were simple, fresh & tasty. My nachos was good as were the soft vegetarian tacos. Sauces all came with a good chilli hit. Plus there was a good selection of bottled sauces if you needed that extra punch. Partner ordered a sizzling platter & the beef was super tender. Good overall Tex Mex with generous portions
Been here a couple of times and I have enjoyed their burritos and quesadillas which are quite good. Excellent location right in the heart of Southbank, so a great place to end up after a nice, relaxing walk or before/after a movie. Prices and portion sizes are reasonable.
Really good fresh mexican food with a twist of there own and not plastered with cheese,we had tacos and nachos and very impressed with both meals. Wait staff were pretty average with no attention to customers once ordered and seated but food was worth it.
I thoroughly enjoy this Mexican every time we eat there. It is nice having a fresh sense of food and reasonable price. I love the vege nachos!
Tried cactus republic one night when we had a hankering for Mexican food. Ordered the vegetarian nachos and the gold margarita. They are not lying when they say the margarita is big. Unfortunately I couldn't say the same about the nachos. While it was nice, it really wasn't anything special.
Really nice simple Mexican place, ordered the small chilli con carne nachos for just $10, serving size was generous and rather tasty. Definitely worth a visit if you're after a quick and reasonably priced mexican meal at Southbank!

I've only had the dessert side of Cactus, and it does not disappoint. If you're a chocolate fanatic then I would recommend the chocolate nachos.
We all enjoyed our meals which were all reasonably priced, especially compared to other places nearby. Would definitely go back again.
Some rating and comemmnet were too judgmental. Me and partner decided to come here cuz it looked nice last time we came walk around here. And we did come back for this. The weird thing was I started checking the urbanspoon rating after ordering the food. And it has been only rated 57% and some reviews were given negatively. Then we started worry abt it gonna be a wrong choice. Surprisely, the food were nice over all in terms of the price. I have been to few nice Mexican restaurant, I would say it definitely was worthwhile, both us liked it. And staff, even the guy who took the order for us were new one, he still acted well manners and friendly. Would like to come back sometime
Better than Guzman & Gomez. The service was a little slow, and the woman taking orders was the same one making the magaritas, so I had to wait until she'd finished making drinks for the people in front of me before I could place my order. My partner also said their "suicidal" salsa was anything but, and my fajita steak was a bit tough, but overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Cactus Republic. Their take on Jalapeno Poppers were awesome, like spicy cheese spring rolls. My burrito was fresh & delicious, and while it contained rice, it wasn't "bulked out" with it as most places do. My partners soft shell tacos were filling & full of flavour, and we loved the "make your own" style menu of choosing your fillings. Definitely better food than Guzman & Gomez, and we love Guzman & Gomez! We've found our new go-to tex mex in South Bank.
After coming here in the past and thinking the food was mediocre, I was pleasantly surprised to see an updated menu, smiles all round, and very delicious food! 10/10 for service, speed, and taste, would definitely recommend the chicken salad!

Love love love love LOVE carts republic!! Let me be clear- if you want fatty, heavy Mexican loaded with 12 types of cheese- this is not it! I love cactus because its fresh, light and delish!
The nachos are with tender neat- not mince- fresh made salsa, lettuce, fresh made guacamole and a creamy sauce- like mayo consistency but its designed to be like the cheese- it's really fresh and of course sour cream on top! Great prices, I normally get chicken nachos and a margarita and it comes to about $20.
Limited menu, but what's on it is great. Will ALWAYS come back! Relaxed dining and super yum!
Food was very average I think I could of made better myself, the drinks were awesome though.
Delicious and great value for money. Came by here last week with a friend and ordered the chicken quesadilla which was delicious and really hit the spot. My vegetarian friend had vegie nachos which she loved and we shared a side of the polenta chips. The margaritas were great too and I'm definitely coming back!

Wasn't impressed with the music choices though. But I guess with most Australian Mexican restaurants they usually lack authenticity
Great service and yummy pomegranate margaritas. I've visited Cactus 6 times now, 2 of those were during peak times and have experienced nothing but great service from the bar staff. They know their margaritas and tequilas and are always friendly and aren't afraid to have a chat and a laugh when it's quiet.
Highly recommend the pomegranate margarita and chicken quesadilla!
Quick feed, vegatarian quesadilla with the extras was yummy. Exceeded my expectations. Being pregnant I am rather picky so this gets 5 stars for what it is a takeaway style Mexican joint!
Came here for lunch on Saturday. Quick friendly service. Good location and good honest food. Can't ask for more than that.

Excellent Quesadillas. Having been to Mexico earlier this year I was not expecting the Food to be as authentic as it was when I went for lunch with the girls recently. I ordered the chicken quesadillas and the food came out very quickly and had a beautiful BBQ-like taste. Also impressed that they stocked Pacifico beer, my favourite beer - took me back to Mexico on the first sip!
A Positive Experience.. We went there last night (7pm) and it wasn't busy, so like any normal people we found a table before ordering so two of us stayed behind on it while the rest went to order for us.
The food came out really quickly and was all very tasty. My Chorizo and Cheese Quasidilla was great and my vegeterian friend raved about his Veggie Buritto, the Veggie Corn Chips were also fantastic. The portions were a decent size for the money and there were even leftovers.
Maybe they fare better when it's not so busy? or maybe they've responded to their bad reviews here and upped their game? Either way, i'd definitely go back and so would my companions. Nice one Cactus Republic, a definite case of see for yourself.
Pleasant Surprise!. After reading all the negative comments before going (I like to make my own opinion) I found that the service was great, really fast to get meals & great value! Our meals were made fresh & tasted beautiful. The chips were so delicious! Just goes to show that you should believe everything you read. Perhaps they just caught them on a bad day.
Liked the food, service needs improvement. I ate at Cactus Republic last Sunday afternoon with three others. All the tables were occupied when we arrived but luckily a group left just after we ordered our food and drinks.
The burrito I ordered was very tasty, but the food was a little slow to come out. Also when I went back to order a second round of frozen margaritas (also quite nice), the server repeated my order incorrectly twice, and despite my correcting him twice still brought us the wrong drinks!
We're planning a return trip with a larger group next Friday, and we're very keen to try out the tequila bar too. It'll be interesting to find out how the shaky service holds up on a busy night with a large party ordering multiple rounds of drinks! I'm a little trepidatious...
Great Value, Great Food, Great Fun. Whilst this little restaurant has taken a while to find its feet in the service department the food has been absolutely supreme from day one. As a local South Brisbane resident it is great to finally have some decent local food. The tequila bar is an added bonus too..

Okay food, slow service. I came here at about 3 pm, so it was not busy. We had to wait to be served - as far as I could see the guy behind the counter was not busy at all, so not sure why he made us wait. I had a vegetarian burrito and my brother had the steak tacos. Price was a little high, and I thought my burrito was average. Not terrible, just average. My brother said the steak was great in his tacos. There was no hot sauce anywhere, which bothered me. Definitely not my favourite mexican place in Brisbane, but not awful either.
The staff were really friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was full. They were chatty with the diners and helped give the bar its happy personality. Overall the feel of the place was young, fun and a little quirky.
I’m impressed, the service is pretty good, they made a mistake with my order, but resolved it straight away and very professionally. Feel like they went a little further than just fixing their mistake.
Atmospheres pretty good, though the stereo could be spread out a little more so the bars not really loud and the seating sound being a bit hit and miss.
Foods very good, tacos are soft and flavour full, nachos are crispy with plenty of topping (no dry nachos at the end) I’ll be coming back
Went here for lunch yesterday and really enjoyed the food! Food came out reasonably fast and meal sizes were good. Lots of flavour in the salsas and guacamole as well. I had the nachos and the chips were delicious! Would defo go back!
Delicious Mexican restaurant! The staff were pleasant and extremely helpful in recommending food options. We loved the meal and the authentic feel of the restaurant. Located conveniently in the Brisbane South Bank it was a short walk from the CBD.
Very very good. Manager was very welcoming. Good selection, great prices and great service. Fresh and tasty food. We were a group of 7 and we all enjoyed our meals from Tacos to burgers. Check this place out in Southbank, worth the stop.
The bartender Ted provided some of the best service I have ever seen. The chefs paid attention to our special requests for lactose intolerance and worked with us which was appreciated. An Aussie might love the food here, but coming from around Mexico it was a bit too sweet for me. I'm looking for the building heat. That said, each individual ingredient was delicious, especially the pork. It was just too sweet as a burrito for me. Was going to Mark 4 stars, but Ted has such great service it was worth five on that alone. Highly recommend the infused drinks, especially the mint.
