Authentic Greek venue and food
Forget fancy Greek restaurants serving modern/European Greek food. Chevk this place out if you are after a typical Greek meal and the atmosphere - the type you find on the islands or the small villages tucked away from the tourist.
I’ve lived in Greece for years and this is the place I keep coming to.
Really good, authentic Greek food at reasonable prices. Servings are typically Greek; that is, huge. We enjoyed a work group lunch and ordered from the Kid's Menu as we saw how massive the equivalent full servings were. The service was quick and friendly and the food was excellent. Best hot chips in West End.
Delicious authentic humble Greek food. Kafenio is run by a lovely caring family who genuinely look after their customers. Very quick and efficient staff. Drop in mid week or book a table for friends&family for a weekend feast. You are not pressured to get the banquet if you are in a large group, they just want you to be happy. Eveything is made from scratch with fresh produce. Look for the big blue house, top of Vulture St! Plenty of street parking or 4 min bus ride ftom the cultural centre on the 199!! BYO and fully stocked. Enjoy their home made sweets & a Greek coffee or bring a birthday cake! Shiftellias, octopus, grilled meats, haloumi etc... and souvla on a Fri night or Sunday lunch is a must!!
We three took a weekday lunch at this quaint authentic establishment.
The place is laid back and oozes Greek/Cypriot atmosphere with the many Greek expats filling the tables chatting, taking coffee and playing table games.
The glasses and complimentary water was presented immediately by our charming host..
We choose a meze of dishes to graze on accompanied with a BYO bottle of "Arrogant Frog" french Rose economical & perfect for a light lunch.
BYO at $2.50 p/p was fair for licenced premises and also offering fair priced liquor such as Greek or Cyprus beer at only $6 and $7 also spirits and wine including a very basic Aust house wine.
Food arrived promptly and was presented well garnished and accompanied with juicy lemon wedges for squeezing on flavour.
The bowl of salad was fresh and crisp, the Haloumi tasty & and the dips pleasant.
The three traditional sausage dishes although tasty i found a bit dry, likewise the lamb pieces also were not tender, possibly a reheat.
I are advised parking is offered to diners at the rear.
Overall a fun place to be,ill be back!
We came to this cute little blue and white worker's cottage for dinner on a Friday night and it was a wonderful experience. We had the kleftiko (slow cooked lamb) which was melt in your mouth tender and the souvla (lamb on the spit). We loved the galaktoboureko! The food is just delicious and the portions are very generous and it's excellent value for money. Another bonus is the complimentary fruit platter which is just wonderful to balance out all the meat.
A cute blue and white themed house (exactly what you expect when going to eat Greek) hidden between Montague Rd and Hardgrave Rd, West End. Very authentic with a very home made BBQ taste to all the meat - which we really enjoyed. The lamb was a bit dry though - I think we need to come back on a night where they do the spit roast with the lamb (we do plan on returning) - I think that will improve my rating. Salad was great, chips were great, chicken was the bomb and we loved the baby octopus.
Lovely service, and so affordable. $36.00 for two!! $30 dinner plate and $6 octopus side dish - which was filling! Classic Greek food - beautiful.
Kafenio is tucked away at the quieter end of Vulture St, West End, which is probably why I hadn't noticed it before despite the distinctive Greek colours that emblazon the outside of the remodelled house where it is situated.
Mrs Kan Do and I finally got a chance to go here for dinner.
The decor is simple, quaint and very Greek. That, and the smell and sight of lamb chops being roasted over a spit as we entered all made for a welcoming atmosphere.
The welcome from the owner of the restaurant was also friendly and after we had looked at the menu, he recommended that we try the spit roast lamb and the kleftiko (lamb slow cooked in a bag).
We followed his recommendation and in addition we ordered the tzatziki and taramasalata dips.
The taramasalata was the better of the two dips - it was delicious. thick and creamy. The tzatziki was also nice, but perhaps could have been better with a little more garlic. They both complemented the thick, warm pita. I would rate these between a 3.5 and 4.
The kleftiko was moist and tender to the point of falling part, and the spit roast lamb was cooked well. The lemon potatoes that accompanied both dishes was delicious, and the salad was simple and fresh. Overall these dishes also rated between a 3.5 and 4.
We were also pleasantly surprised with the complimentary fruits provided after our meal.
I would describe the food here as simple, uncomplicated Greek fare provided at very reasonable prices. My palate which is accustomed to spicier fare would like a little more flavour, but that really is just a matter of personal preference.
The prices, decor and the friendly, efficient service at this delightful little West End Greek eatery nudges the overall score a little higher to a 4.
The food at Kafenio is absolutely exquisite! I ordered the haloumi and baby octopus, which was superbly cook and the taste was sensational. The prices are very affordable, as the meal in total was only $10. Service was very quick; the staff were polite. I would strongly recommend this establishment to any lovers of Greek cuisine.
Love this place, have gone many times! I was not really a fan of greek food, but I love the food here.
My favorite meal being the shared meat platter, with various diffrent side dishes. There is more rhan enough food and the matching of diffrent flavors is exciting.
The meat is cooked to perfection soft in side and the chargrilled ourside, and the chips and salad is delish
The environment is also pleasent and homely.
I love this restaurant, hands down favourite Greek restaurant in the city. Great service and a very welcoming staff. True traditional meals and great prices too
We loved this place - just the sort of Greek restaurant we've been looking for in Brisbane for decades. Classic Greek/Cypriot food at a good price in unpretentious but pretty setting - cosy inside and a big veranda outside. It also functions as a local club so the tables of card playing Greek men are a bonus! It is family run, and feels like it.
Fantastic dining experience!! The food was delicious and so fresh!! We received such warm friendly service it felt like we were visiting family. We will definitely be back!!
The best Greek cuisine in Brisbane! Highly recommend the Greek Lamb on the spit "Souvla". Very Greek atmosphere - feels just like being in Greece! Also try the Bakalava!
Next best thing to being in Greece or Cyprus, you are greeted by the amazing smell of the grill and you suddenly feel like you have walked off the pavement in west end and landed on one of the Greek islands. The food and the service is fantastic, try is once and you will agree it's the best kept secret in Brisbane ...
The food is just bliss. Had the two banquets and shared between 10. Every plate was perfect. Everyone loved it, and the nicest Greek food I’ve had outside of Thessaloniki. Lovely family running the business. Support local and discover one of the few authentic places left in West End and Brisbane. Brilliant!
We went here for dinner on a Saturday evening, the menu looked great and the food came quite fast. If you are looking for a 5 STAR place to experience Greek food you should try this place. Can not recommend it highly enough and the best of it was the pay bill after entré - 2x mains - 2x mains & 2x deserts - Check the photo of the bill.
Authentic greek food freshly made at reasonable prices. Street parking is available. Made a booking for a family dinner there were 9 of us including 2 kids. We got the Ap'Ta Karvouna, Agean seafood platters & a bowl of chips for the kids. There was so much food we couldn't finish it. Everything was yummy but my favourites were the octopus and lamb kofta.
The decor is reminiscent of a 1970s Greek village coffee shop, full of old guys sitting around playing cards and drinking Retsina and Turkish coffee. The service is haphazard and the menu may or may not contain certain dishes, depending on the day of the week or perhaps the whim of the Chef/Owner.
However we just love this place! The food is authentic, flavoursome and generous and the cost is very reasonable. This is by far our favourite Greek restaurant, and we’ve tried most of them.
So if you can’t get back to Cyprus any time soon, (where I am from), come here instead! 😄
Always excellent food and service, particularly the charcoal grilled calamari! Absolutely love this local spot, thank you to the staff and particularly the chefs.
Amazing Greek food, great environment. The staff is very friendly as well! I’ve only been here twice, but it’s my new favourite restaurant. I Highly recommend Kefenio.
Great authentic Greek food. Petro and his family and staff always friendly and helpful. My family from interstate insist on going there when they are up.
