Review The Royal - Brisbane

varinia street
My friend Jenny & I loved the place. It had great ambience & acoustics. A beautiful antique decore & setting. We saw Tex Perkins & his good friend Matt Walker. It was a sit down show of quite a mature fan base. My friends dancing 💃 was not appropriated. A great place.

This is right in the of the Nundah strip ! Tonight was my lucky night as often it’s totally booked out particularly Friday and Saturday night The Italian style restaurant is a great asset Providing classic Italian dishes such as

I have been to the Royal many times and had always enjoyed the food and atmosphere there but my last visit was not a good experience at all. It was a Saturday night and apparently the pizza oven had broken down so no pizzas were available (an Italian restaurant not serving pizzas, what the heck!). After we sat down one of the girls came over to tell us the special for the evening, which was the "fish of the day" but they apparently ran out of that; so no pizzas and no fish either, it would seem nothing was going right for this place. Our main course took over 40 minutes to come out, there was only two of us and we ordered the Linguine Alla Marinara and Pollo 25 (with parmigiana), there was no apology of the delay in our order, the food was simply plonked in front of us and that was it. The Royal must either have a new management or a new chef either way standards have dropped. Food-wise the flavours were not as we remembers, the chicken schnitzel was dry and bland, the linguine was no better. We both only ate half of our meals and left very dissatisfied. We will give the Royal a miss from now on, $100 for an unsatisfying meal with bad experiences does not warrant a return. There are other good Italian eateries in Brisbane that can do much better, skip the Royal I don't recommend it.

The place has nice enough ambience and aesthetics, for a local pub it's not bad. What I can't understand though is why the food menu is solely Italian. It's not that the pizza is bad, it's pretty good really, but who goes to a pub for 'traditional' Italian food? Drinks also a little expensive, they should offer lube if they wanna charge $16 for a ginger beer

I had my Brother’s early birthday dinner at the Royal Nundah 5 days ago and the service was great! The food was cooked perfectly, drinks were well made, thanks Conor! And special thanks to Holly L., Naomi and Georgia for tolerating a big crowd. Great experience overall.

The beer was cold which is great. The menu is very limited which can be more than fine if its well made. It’s was not. In fact it looked and tastes like the no-name frozen meals from the supermarket. Good for a beer, eat elsewhere.

The Steak is good. The staff, however, do not like too see you, apparently! I didn’t find them welcoming. She is rude.

Hubby and I are regulars at the Royal, we love the food and atmosphere here. Staff are awesome! More so, we are always given the best customer service from attendant Joel. From the time we arrive to when we leave he is always ensuring we are well looked after, we always look forward to seeing him on duty. Thank you Joel for always giving us the best experience every time, you are an asset to Royal Hotel 💯

I was really disappointed with this place. My partner and I ordered Uber Eats from here tonight. We know Uber Eats will never be as good as eating in, but we did expect our food to be edible, a criteria our delivery didn't meet. My Carbonara had no flavour, the pasta was rubbery and the bacon was overcooked and tasteless. My partner's gnocchi was barely above room temperature, and had a very unpleasant, overly strong taste. Our aranchini and calamari sides were also cold.

I have been ordering uber eats for years, and this is the first time I have ever had a meal that I could not finish. Really unhappy and I wouldn't recommend this place for takeout.

We went to this place on a Sunday evening expecting to get some wine and good food. We were met promptly and seated quickly. The first thing that caught my attention was the state of the menus-tatty at best, a single sheet of paper printed all sides probably at home but in colour...I ordered a glass of the Robinsons Sav Blanc to be told they were out of stock. The next wine on the list was almost 50% more expensive; the real shocker was a glass of Cloudy Bay which could be yours for $29 a glass. There wasn't any offer to discount the more expensive wine.
We ordered our dinner and as I have dietary problems I asked for two sides, chat potatoes and salad. The waiter returned in a few minutes to tell me that my food could not be prepared gluten free and did not offer any options or suggestions so we left. Good luck getting sense out of the wait staff who have english as a second language and seem to struggle to comprehend simple requests.

The Duck Ragu and the Smoked Salmon Ravioli were very disappointing. The Duck Ragu had one tiny shred of duck in it and it took some digging to find that, I first thought I'd been given the wrong dish as mushrooms were the only thing visible in it and it had no meaty flavour either. The Salmon Ravioli was just bland and under seasoned.
We were still hungry after the mains as they were quite small so we decided to try a pizza as we had seen a lot of great reviews about them, we had the Italliano and it was nice.
The waitress knew we were not happy with the mains and that I was having doubts about ordering dessert but she talked us into the Pannacotta assuring us that it was very good, it was the worst thing we had, it can't even be called a Pannacotta, it was a slice!! Rubbery and bland.
No discount, drink or any kind of amends were offered even for the fact there was no meat in the main meal.
I wouldn't go back.

Really disappointed. An odd place, called to make a booking but was told no bookings are taken and just to walk in. When we arrive we are made to wait 10 mins at the door as we “didn’t have a booking” yet all tables were free except 2. We were seated and told it’s table service food and drinks yet we must go and get our own water (?) and that our waiter isn’t here yet but will arrive soon (odd). A 20+ minute wait later I asked if someone could take our drink order. RosĂ© wasn’t great, very stale and overly fermented - it was orange not pink. When the waiter did arrive I asked about fish of the day which the waiter didn’t know, I asked what the “seasonal ingredients” in the risotto was which the waiter also didn’t know and instead told me what a risotto was... an hour later and mains arrived my salmon was cold and I asked it be sent back. There was hair on my plate when it came back and a friends meal was full of mushrooms despite having asked it to come without. Over priced for the fish of the day, meal needed more substance perhaps more vegetables than ice cold raw onion. I was hungry when I finished it. Don’t recommend.

We started with the bruschetta and potato croquettes and it was amazing. Really traditional bruschetta which we love. I had the Porchetta for main and it was divine. My eldest declared this is his new favourite restaurant. Can’t wait for dessert am having the Nutella Pizza!!!
Geoff
The Royal has an excellent Italian ristorante embedded within. Beautiful fresh food. The linguine marinara excellent and ravioli exquisite.. The calamari fritto light and tasty. Excellent pub grub really it’s more. Lots of areas from dining room to bar cater for all. Grazi.

I had rather positive and enjoyable lunch here and I will happily return here in the near future for 2nds.

The restaurant is clean, tidy and roomy giving it a nice relaxed atmosphere, the wait staff I encountered there were friendly didn’t linger and were very quick to respond.

The food was enjoyable and pleasant but not with out its down sides.

We started with the bruschetta which was very tasty but was a very small serving for 12.9, and was served cold as if it was served strait from the fridge and I’m not a big fan of tomato served at under 5 degrees.

Next the mains were the fish of the day and spaghetti bolognese.
The fish of the day was nice but at 26.9 the serve of fish was very sad, and being only served with 2 pieces of broccoli and a bed of pasta and sauce it just didn’t hit the spot with the serving size. Don’t get me wrong this dish was very tasty just disappointed in the amount.
The spaghetti bolognese was good a very standard staple. The serving size was fine and came with a very generous helping of parmesan and was topped with a very delightful pesto.

And for dessert we had a very tasty Nutella pizza with honeycomb.
This was rather splendid, the pizza base was nice and a good generous amount of Nutella was spread over the pizza. No honey comb was spared in topping the pizza off, and the side of chocolate gelato was very pleasing. Only downside was it is served with ample amount of mint leaves that covered the pizza but they are easy to pick off, so no real problem there.

And for drinks I was rather delighted to see pims on the drink menu so I could not pass up he chance of grabbing a jug of pims which was delicious I might add.

So to finish off I was very pleased and will happily recommend anyone to go give this place a try.
Amanda Mac
I regularly go for coffee or pizza here. You can't book a table unless you have more than 6 people. Very popular so it can be noisy. The bar upstairs is nice too.

The Royal is my place to go when i want good Itallian. The service is always friendly & the food is always consistant. Nothing better than finishing dinner off with an afagato :)
Carly Smith
I go to the italian at cannon hill alot and LOVE the food and service, went to the royal tonight for dinner, food was spot on as expected although i was charged for less than a tablespoon of chilli oil, which was very disappointing as the italian has this on every table as a staple. Also when ordering drinks the waiter got the order wrong. Think I might just stick to The italian at Cannon Hill over The Royal at Nundah
Amanda Harris
Had a quick work lunch today and everything was very enjoyable. Perfect weather for an Italian feed too! I can recommend the ravioli, it was delicate and the perfect balance of richness and zest. I can also recommend the octopus salad and my friends shared the special for two (which was huge generous serving of pizza, pasta and garlic bread, it was yummy and great value).

hi was there last night for dinner 7th march 2017, i ordered the rolled up veal, the veal was stone cold , i politly asked if it could be heated, i was glared and barked at, when it came back still stone cold, apoun eating it i could barley cut it, it tasted half raw to be honest, had been the once befor , and the staff where rude then and unhelpful then as well, i was not nasty about it just could not eat stone cold food, dose not make me want to go back or recommend to anyone, your staff f need training in customer services, and how to be friendly.had another friend that went two weeks ago and they said the server was rude to them because they asked why they where waiting 40 minutes for an orange juice.
Maxine Barnes
Was impressed when i walked in the place looks amazing. Most of the staff were fabulous but there was one older waitress that was just downright rude. It was an effort for her to deal with us and she made sure the whole table new it. The food was not great either, i had the crab lasagne and it was very bland and tasteles. Would not recommend this place for a meal.
Cameron Adam
Unbelievable service, food and atmosphere. One of the best Gnocchi dishes I've ever had, and don't get me started on the calamari.... Couldn't recommend highly enough!!!
Sharon S
Lovely pub, like a tardis with a surprise behind every door, lovely ambiance and good acoustics and very nice friendly staff. Food was very disappointing, presumed because it was so busy that we would be pleasantly surprised but unfortunately not and although we would visit again for a drink we would not bother to eat here again. Pasta was sticky, dry and bland and trout was too small for a main meal for a man, with just a few thin slices of zucchini, should have been served with either a salad or veg medley.
Nutty
Agree with other comments advising of this places buziness. Came here on a Wednesday night and nearly no seats left. Staff were friendly and the food was good so can't complain. The only downer is the parking which is just crap in Nundah everywhere.
The Tasty Plate
Firstly make sure you book ahead,
The Royal is a busy place on the weekends. I really like the interior of The
Royal, it looks like a traditional pub but the restaurant has a homely
Italian vibe. They have a good selection of items on the menu (pizza, pasta,
seafood, steak). I order the vegetarian gnocchi, it was tasty and reasonably
priced. All in all a nice place to have dinner and if you feel like kicking on
after dinner there are plenty of new bars in the area that are worth checking
out.
SASSYFRAN
Excellent service from waitstaff!

Food was disappointing and pricey for pub fare! Why can't we even get a parmy right? Bacon bits... PL.EA.SE??
Partie
3 mates tried this pub/restaurant for lunch. Having been to the pub as way back as the 70s I was very concerned at my friends taste. What a surprise. Lovely ambience. Excellent bar set up. Restaurant meals were really enjoyed. The service was fantastic. We left saying we will be back.

The Royal is always busy, always providing a great atmosphere. It's food is well above what you'd expect in a pub, especially the pizza and seafood. The Royal is divided into different areas depending on what you want but all are great. It is also good for functions.
Lola6
The restaurant food is quality and it has a nice interior. Authentic italian atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. I will recommend the pollo parmigiana!

Today Friday 3rd December 2015 2.05pm entered the dining room with my son we asked the procedure ( THE RESTAURANT WAS NOISY we sat ourside the door adjacant to the water station. Time passed 2.25pm waitresses cleaned adjacant tables more time passed time now 2.40 I watched with patience . more time passed 2.45 I then proceeded to reception where the reception was serving customer. I ASKED WHY I HAD NOT BEEN SERVED . The male said to myself that I WANTED A FIGHT . This i find disgusting . I told him that I WOULD TELL OTHER HE SAID TO ME I WAS THREATNING HIM.
I am a seventy year old lady and my 42 year old son do not like to be treated in this manner in our own districy.

We where not offered any drinks coffee tea soft drinks ice not a thing.

When we left a young women came running out telling us she was the girlfriend of the reception person aat this time we needed to go as both of us are diabetic we needed to find another resataurant at this restaurant we where treated with 100% dignity.

Yummy pizzas. Simple flavours that are delicious. Crispy base, cheesy top & fresh toppings. Even on a busy night the service is friendly and quick.
MissCharli
Although the food was tasty with good portion sizes, I struggle to understand how this Italian restaurant fits in a modern pub environment. The experience felt a bit disjointed. Wait staff were enthusiastic but not always on the ball.

Good atmosphere for a drink. Food is average but affordable. Staff are a bit hit and miss. Quite intollerant of food allergies although they do have gf pizza bases. Stick to the Italian wine choices. Australian wine list isn't great.

What a diamond in the rough! Well presented place with plenty of atmosphere. The food was generous and delicious, and the staff are very accommodating. As someone who as lived in Brisbane for ten years and likes to think I know all the 'places', this was a venue an out-of-towner took me and I was delightfully surprised. Good, honest, tasty food.
Jodie
I find this place a bit hit and miss. It's definitely better than pub fare, and the atmosphere is always good. It's tasty, but not the best Italian around
Stefania Andriolo
Being Italian, I enjoy good Italian food and being emerged in the 'Italian food culture'. This place is amazing. We had a party of 12 eating for my Nonna's birthday and after asking each family member what they rated their meal out of 5, each said 5! We had pizzas, lasagnas, antipasto's, pasta carbonara's, kids meals and coffees/teas etc. the carnivore pizza I ate was amazing (attached with this review) wonderful place, amazing atmosphere and quick and friendly service. Will be back again! Highly recommended!

Had lunch here and wow, didn't know they had lunch specials or even did Italian at all... Shocked me for value and also service.. A good change from what they used to have and a good lunch time spot of in the area
ElsewhereBriefly
Definitely looks good after the renovation. Haven't had a proper meal here yet, but did have the coffee and tart deal, which is not bad.. Coffee and a slice of tart (apple, lemon, or custard) for $8.
Staff were attentive and cheerful as well.

The number 1 positive thing I can only say about this restaurant is that the wait staff are great and attentive to your order. However, the Functions Manager of this restaurant was a huge disappointment. I don't think she is suited for the role, She can't manage bookings, not very nice to speak to on the phone and the worst part is arriving with your friends only to be told that there is no booking! Hello! So disappointing! I don't think I'll come back here again! I have been here once before, I thought the food is good, but not that amazing! The ambience is great and the bar for the drinks was handy that's why I recommended it to friends. But a situation like this is not acceptable. Lucky, Earth and Sea along Sandgate road was handy, and I'm glad I discovered it after this fiasco. I am not recommending The Royal if you are going here in a group!!
Fionakay
Stroll through Nundah of an evening and you'll find The Royal fully packed! The renovation was just what the pub needed - now marketed as an Italian style restaurant and bar. It's not my top pick for a meal in the local area, but the attached bar 'The Lounge' is great to unwind in Nundah with a drink, gourmet jaffle and a game of pool.

A big letdown after initially walking in to a nicely refurbished Royal hotel, it was all downhill after that, the food was hit and miss with steaks being cold, lasagna too hard to cut with a knife, some dishes were fine I would advise having Pizza it was good.
As for service the functions manager is out of her depth with the Bookings being messed up, something the royal has a reputation for and as for decor they have done a fantastic job of remodeling but we noticed that are many choke points with staff trying to avoid patrons while bringing meals from the kitchen, too many tables crammed in! Back to the drawing board I'm afraid for the staff especially Managers. Wont be returning anytime soon.
Steph
I find myself returning here all the time! Food is great and atmosphere really cool for a lazy Sunday lunch. Staff are very accommodating and make you feel very comfortable. The pizza is great! And the coffee is beautiful as well.
Isaac
Terrible food. Terrible service , bad service . Food was totally inedible tasted like eating dirt
Menolly_pern
Service could be better. We have been to this pub twice now and it can be hard to get served if you all want is a drink and are not seated for a meal. The staff could try harder to at least acknowledge that you are waiting. We left today after being ignored, then being told to go to the other side of the bar and 'you'll get served', then being ignored again.

Uncooked and Cold food. My sausages from mothers day breakfast were uncooked and one of my friend had a cold omlette that when return was only reheated. The food was cold and unenjoyable
Mr Bean.
We love it.. Being locals to Nundah we tried this place when it first opened. We had a couple of disappointing experiences at the beginning, but due to being new, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept returning, and we are glad we did. We make an effort to eat there once a week. I haven't got around to trying everything on the menu, as I keep going with what I know, and that is the beautiful Spaghetti Bolognese. But between my partner and I, we have tried the Spaghetti Bolognese, Vitello Pappardelle, Lasagne Bolognese, the Zucca, the Carnivora, the Italian, the Gamberi, Bruschetta and the Calamari Fritti, and all have been superb. If I could make any suggestions though, it would be to keep the portion sizes generous (some have been a noticeably smaller than others) and perhaps a better garlic bread, like you had when you first opened. Keep up the good work though guys, we love The Royal =)

Deliscious. Just been in for dinner. Food was amazing! Staff were excellent and friendly. Great atmosphere. Thanks.

Ok but not excellent. The food is fine. The service, not do much. There are plenty of staff who look busy but aren't actually achieving much, even the floor manager. Staff needs some serious training and supervision.

Taste of Italy ... in Nundah. A pub in Nundah wouldn't be the first thought in terms of accessing Italian food but here I found myself with the clan. So we tried 3 things - spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti bolognese and the pollo (crumbed chicken). It wasn't Silvia Colloca but no complaints about the food. I was the only one who had dessert and enjoyed the torta - Linda chocolate tart with salted caramel gelato. Sounds good, tasted good. We had some ordering issues with the waitress - couldn't pick the accent but sounded more Russian than Italian but in the end the meals were fine. Never went here in the old days so can't compare but seemed pretty popular at the moment.

Not the same..... I visited the Royal mid 2014 and fell in LOVE with the spaghetti bol, honestly hands down the best I have ever had. I went back several times taking family and friends along. Late 2014 around Sept /Oct it appears the chef or the recipe changed and was incredibly salty. I did at the time give that feedback quietly after I had paid so not to cause a scene. I was only interested in it going back to the way it was. I visited again on the weekend and decided to give it another go - almost 6 months later. The Spaghetti was Meh... not overly salty but not at all comparable to the original meals we had mid 2014. Italian house salad was limp and the garlic bread was overcooked and no longer served on nice bread but rather appeared to be the takeaway variety I could buy from coles for $3.00. The atmosphere is great, staff are lovely, coffee is nice.

Nice Place to stay, to eat, to drink......My Italy in Nundah!. I ve been to the Royal because my sister said: "Ehy, I can t believe , in Nundah you can taste our Italy, fresh pasta and ossobuco amazing".
I had the best carbonara ever in all my life: creamy, panchetta smoky as the same in Rome. My husband had the Cacciucco ( a special bread homemade with seafood mix filling, just flewless).
The waitress has been very efficient and she suggested the Cacciucco because it was a special of the day.
Definetely I would go back to taste the rest of the menu and pizzas.
THANKS NUNDAH AND THANKS ROYAL.

Everyone enjoyed their meals. Cant fault the place after going here for my brithday on March 2nd. Every meal was enjoyed by each person, we had 2 steaks, crab lasagne, carbonara, marinara and another dish i cant remember! Theyw ere all very nice, only downside was my mum got eaten alive by mozzies and there was no repellent on hand... just an idea for the future! overal enjoyed our dining experience and to top it off i won $280 on the pokies :)

Disappointed!!. Very disappointed in the "Nundah Royal Hotel " experience. Table for 10 booked weeks ago ,no table available on arrival at the time stipulated by the booking staff member. Staff member briefly spoke with intended diners "would see what he could do" and didn't return. It was obvious to the group that a table wasn't going to be available and chose to find another option elsewhere at very late notice. Attempted to contact/speak with manager on several occasions following "unavailable" still waiting!
Mlaudari
Very disappointed. Had made a booking last night for 9 ladies for a birthday celebration. We arrived at 7.30 to be met with we"ll see what we can do about a table. We waited but waiter did not return so asked waitress as she passed to see if she could find out what was going on, she also did not return. Have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant and would certainly never recmemd the royal hotel to anyone.
Dan
Great birthday lunch! Booking for 20 for a Valentine's Day 40th Birthday party. Tables were in a great / social u shape. Everyone's meals were great. The little kids loved the menu. The barman was "fresh" with some english challenges, but made ordering drinks a laugh. No charge to bring a cake. Very accommodating of peanut allergy for one guest. And the cocktail bar after 4pm was great. Best of all, every guest was happy with the bill at the end. Nothing more to say, a great family celebration!
Izzie.crompton
Rude staff. I thought one of the girls behind the bar was particularly rude and for that reason I would not go back. Nice place, reasonably priced..shame that's what let it down

Local from Nundah. The service here is usually fair: they are usually very friendly, but service can be quite slow, and hard to get someone to come near you at time. The food varied from very good to very average: the salad and roast potatoes were very tasty. The seafood pasta was bland and the pasta quite dried out - when the waiter asked how our meal was, we advised that the pasta was not very good. My husband had eaten most of it, as he was hungry and it was not dreadful, just very ordinary for almost $25 - worth about $5! However, the waiter only clarified the name of our dish and offered nothing else in response! Very disappointing!
Maree.quinn
Great Italian. This was a great experience for four of us this month.
No booking required, attentive staff, the manager introduced himself as soon as we were seated and ensured us we would an enjoyable experience.

Our entre was served quickly and our mains arrived shortly after. Crab lasagne, lasagne bolognese, fritto misto and barramundi gnocci could not be faulted for flavour, presentation and portion size.

Affagato was a great way to finish the meal.

Bravo!
Sarah Kate Elliott
Extremely disappointed with our breakfast. Have been there before & have liked our meals but not this time! Big breakfast was $18.90. For this we got stale toasted sourdough, ONE mushroom, hard fried bacon and flavorless poached eggs. Waitress unhelpful and defensive when we complained about the meal. Said no-one else had complained about their meals this morning! Definitely won't be returning.
Kiwijunior
Nice place, but overvalued food and drinks with ordinary service.. The Good - Location, refurbishment, furnishings and ambiance.
The Bad - Slow bar and table service, ordinary overpriced food. Pasta not made on premises. Expensive drinks, including non alcoholic.
Summary - Overpriced place to drink and eat. Won't frequent the place often and wouldn't recommend anyone to eat there with current menu and table service only restricted restaurant bar.
Your_dreamin_15
Bad service and food. Meals were not made as per what was stated in the menu which resulted in very dry pasta with no flavour and refund was not excepted even though two meals were hardly touched! Very bad service when we asked to have meals rectified as they were not what we ordered.. They only offered a free drink which we did not want as we were still starving!!!

Would Never Go There Again. We always like to support local businesses however the last visit to the Royal left a sour taste in my mouth. We were a table of four a couple of Fridays ago, had ordered our food when a friend who has had a stroke and sometimes slurs his words, joined us at our table just before our meals arrived. The four in our party had consumed one beer each for the guys and 1/2 a glass of wine for the girls and our friend who joined our table hadn't even ordered a drink when the waitress plonked a jug of water on the table and cited "No more drinks at the table". We were shocked at the way it was delivered and surprised, but said we will go the bar and get our drinks, when the waitress replied "That won't do you any good either". I explained to the waitress of our friend's circumstance and that the Royal's action and reaction was discriminatory and bullyish. I asked who the manager was, but the waitress would not tell me. After 10 minutes, the waitress came back to our table and said that we could order drinks but it did not come with any apology. Besides the treatment delivered on that evening to paying patrons, the food is not that great either (raw fish had to go back to get cooked). There are plenty of other places in Nundah which will now receive our custom.
Benny Arndt
Italian at a pub - weird. Firstly, let me say that the staff here are great.

That said, this place just doesn't do it for me. An Italian restaurant in a pub in Nundah is plain off. If I'm going to eat Italian, I want it to feel like an authentic experience damnit, and you're not going to get that here.

The food we had was nice, but the portion sizes were a bit small.

Don't think I'll be going back, there are many better places in the area for a feed. The Royal should've never gotten rid of its pub restaurant, that was superb!
Kelly
Mark and Kelly. Loved it so much, we are going for our office Christmas party.
Salandsyl
Awful. The dishes are dry & tasteless. There was no sauce on my pasta and it had dried so much it was crunchy. It was replaced with gnocchi which was overcooked. I couldn't win!
Andrew Williams
I have eaten here on several occasions, each time hoping for a better meal than the last time but always being disappointed. The building itself looks great and the staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food is always a real disappointment (with the exception of the pizzas which are simple but quite tasty). Have tried the Mac n cheese, the osso bucco, spaghetti bolognese, ragu, carbonara... Each time it was either too bland/tasteless, too oily or not properly seasoned. Have also overheard several other people complaining about their meals - not sure whether the kitchen is receiving the feedback, or just ignoring it. A nice place for a cold drink but unlikely to order food here again. Maybe I will try again in 6 months to see if there has been any change. Sorry guys - The place and the staff are great and I really did try to give you a fair chance, but I can't keep paying good money for disappointing food.
Claire
Went here mid-week with a couple of friends & we were all really impressed with the food, refurb & service. We ordered 2 spaghetti dishes & a pizza between us. Personally I liked the fact the spaghetti was clearly fresh as my dish was a simple one (garlic, chilli etc) & the meals were not huge so could also enjoy the dessert menu. Staff were friendly & helpful, will definitely head there again with the family.

Best italian food. Top pasta and pizza
Calzone pizza fantastic.
Marinara linguine very rich
Teeks
Disappointed. After the recent renovation and the venue always looking busy even on midweek nights, I was really keen to check out our new local. The staff were very helpful and friendly but on being seated inside at a table for two, the table was really weird because we were so far apart we could hardly hear each other speak. I ordered the mac and cheese and was so looking forward to it but when it arrived it was hardly hot and tasted of nothing, it was so disappointing, how can you get Mac and cheese wrong? I loaded up the pepper and asked for some balsamic to try and liven it up ask was really hungry. Maybe I ordered this dish on the wrong night. I probably will be back again but really hope it's better. Possibly worth the chef checking the Mac and cheese recipe to make sure no ingredients are missing.
H_moran
Best italian. Fresh beautifully cooked food at a reasonable price. service was impeccable and the ambience was relaxing.
Rachy_roo
Quality and traditional Italian. I came here with a large group for lunch. Service was very friendly and prompt. The menu was traditional Italian - simple but fresh. There were options to suit anyone, and prices were appropriate for the serving sizes. I had the Al Dente Spaghetti with prawns which was flawless. The pasta was cooked exactly al dente, the wine/garlic/chilli/oil sauce was flavoursome but not overpowering and the prawns were grilled to absolute perfection. I also tried the pizza gamberi, which had a wonderful, flavourful base, and again, perfectly cooked prawns. It was perhaps the best pizza base I have tasted in Brisbane. I'll definitely be back.

Lovely refurbished. Great staff. Very different, original dishes. Quite impressed

Ossobuco best ever had and luch light deal with bresaola just amazing. cured meat and rocket with nice olive oil and parmesan really italian.

Went there for dinner with my partner,we had the cheese plater. Would never pay money for this again, such a disappointment.
Staff were ok but gave the very clear impression that they did not want to be there, a smile or something simple like that would have been nice.
Our meals came out in a timely manner but were of a medium to low standard.
We will not be rushing back.

For a lunch time treat, do yourself a favour and get a pizza. Absolutely the best I've had. Perfect example of the old "less is more". Enjoy with a schooner of Ruby Tuesday ale. Excellent.

Will never go back. Reallllllly bad, from a table of four we had 3 burnt pizzas, 100% black on the bottom yet these pizzas were still taken out to our table and we were made to eat them due to the wait time of 1 hour and 30 mins!!!(we were very hungry by that stage) we had to eat it the pizza with a folk as the slices just fell apart. Terrrible.
we also had the pasta, for $15 all we got was a can of tomatoes and fake bacon bits with wayyy to much salt! it tasted horrible and was such a rip off .the fact that the staff did not even come around once and ask how our meal was was a let down.
would not eat there again.
Tip if you have to eat at this place make sure it is at a very very very quite time so they can try and get your meals right!
and do not get the cheese plate! such a let down!
over all 1/10

What Nundah was missing. Great place for a meal and a drink. Very authentic and good atmosphere. Helpful staff. The wine list could do with some improvement (better reds please!), otherwise it's great.

Food was nice, fresh and flavoursome. Perhaps mix the menu up a bit instead of solely Italian. Staff and management need to smile more. They all looked a bit sour, grumpy and unapproachable. (Looks are everything people especially when you are the face of the business!) ..save for the bubbly helpful bar girl in the back bar area, the place was nicely refurbished and had warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Ingrid. I was surprised to find an English named pub with an Italian menu. I found the menu very limited and ordinary. However I thought the service was very good and the hotel itself was quite nice. Would probably go back if the menu had a few more choices and offered salads as a main. All the meals were quite heavy for a luchtime.

Waste of time. Just wanted a pub meal and all they serve is Italian. Had the spaghetti and it was bland, oily and over priced. Paid $5 for prawns to come with it and got 3 cold prawns. The lady beside sent her meal back saying it was the worst meal she has ever had. Definitely not going back.
