Review Banneton - Brisbane

Amin Kazemi
I like the sweets and the area. The coffee was delicious but too too cold (disappointing). I will go there to try again. They got nice bread as well.

My favourite cafe! Their pastries exceed expectations. I was introduced to the Banneton Bakery by a friend who is French. He surprised me when he by-passed all the amazing pastries (they have a large selection) to purchase what looked like a humble almond croissant. I had tried these before at other cafes, it’s just a croissant with slivers of almond on the top right? Wrong. Not at Banneton! The inside is packed with a delicious buttery almond meal. Wow, so good. I have been going to Banneton Bakery for years now. I love it so much we do morning tea there for my birthday. I love so many of their excellent pastries, but I keep coming back for their exceptional almond croissant!

Great little suburban bakery just off the St Johns Woods/ Breakfast Creek pedestrian and bike path. Cool indoor air conditioned seating or outdoors under the shop awning. Good staff, fast and friendly service. Most importantly, everything in this bakery looks good to eat, from pastries to pies to biscuits. Very good coffee, nice atmosphere. This is on our ''to visit again'" list when we ride the Breakfast Creek bike path.

Coffee was great, croissant pretty good, nice feel inside tho can get noisy. Outside nice but was too windy. Can get super busy and parking can be tricky. Consistently good tho.

Always delicious food. Warm toasted sandwiches perfect for cold winters days. Cheerful and artful hot chocolate showing the staffs care and skill.

Great bread and pastries. My girls love their pretzels and gingerbread girls. I have a real weakness for their cinnamon scrolls. Also have an amazing selection of sourdough bread. They do dine in food too which is yum, but we mostly grab food on the go.

Came here for the first time after driving past and spotting it a few months ago. All I can say is the Banana Bread is delicious and the coffee fantastic! It's a lovely setting.

An excellent bakery slash cafe in Ashgrove. It looks rather popular. I very much enjoyed the cherry danish. The savoury options looked tasty as well. In a world full of chains and franchises, artisan bakers such as Banneton are an asset to the city. Well worth a visit.

Would recommend the cherry Danish😍😍😍

I’ve been going to banneton for 3 years. Woollongabba was my first experience and it was great. The pies were hot inside out and the sauce was for free.. which it should be since the price of the pies aren’t average prices.

As the years went on i noticed the staff switching which is normal but the quality of food And service was dropping. There has been numerous times where I ordered the beef pie and it was cold inside. Then they start charging $1 for sauce which is ridiculous when the sauce isn’t enough to accomodate the pie. Today when I had the pie I had 1/4 pie left with no sauce . What a joke. I don’t know where they get the sauce from but if you want something similar you can go to Aldi or woolies and look for tomato relish or tomato spicy jam for $4-8 . The choices are endless and you won’t have to pay $1 for half a spoon of sauce . To compare a normal packet of tomato sauce can range from 25-50cents and two packets would cover most pies to satisfy your needs .

Yes I sound stingy on the sauce hahaha but this is the stingiest place with sauce I’ve ever seen . Even we’ll more established bakeries in melbourne and Sydney don’t even charge for sauce And if they did it would be a generous amount of sauce. There pies cost less there rent is likely higher so there’s no reason for Banneton to be stingy or unreasonable with sauce .

Don’t lie to yourself guys , imagine having a burger with only half the burger covered with sauce, or pasta with half tomato sauce. They might have saved 20 - 50 cents or less per customer which does make a difference to there profit margin . But was it worth a 1star review?

I told myself I wouldn’t go back to banneton 3 times because of the poor service and cold pies that I have to bloody keep asking to be reheated . But this was the final time. I won’t recommend this shop again but recommend cheaper alternatives that give free sauce lol.

Give Stone Artisan Bakery a chance if you haven’t , the pies are a different style to Banneton but the price reflects that and the tomato sauce is free. The passion fruit donuts are decent as well.

They don’t try be a cafe that fails to fulfill its higher price for there goods and services.

My rating is based off the threes years of decline I have felt with Banneton. Between Ashgrove and Woollonggabba

I was somewhat disappointed when I found out they had sold the last almond croissant just before me! Oh well there was plenty of other delights to tempt. I decided upon a scroll which turned out to be super light & flaky with a rich cinamon flavor. It was sticky & delicious with a sumptuous icing

I really enjoy this place. Love the pastry’s and coffee. I’m glad they expanded. It’s good to see a business like this grow to be more successful.

Always loved their almond croissants bought at the weekend market. First time I opted for a dine in chicken mushroom pie. The pie ($7.50) totally disappointed me as it lacked a pie texture and its filling was way too wet and mushy with too much gravy but not generous with chicken. It was exactly like a croissant with the fillings, definitely NOT a pie! The coffee was well presented but very warm. It had gone cold before the pie was served. Some cutleries were dirty and all were unpolished. The counter staff was friendly and welcoming, but sorry I don’t think I would return.

The coffee here is very very good, really strong and perfect temperature! I ordered the GF strawberry and yoghurt cake and that was delicious. However, the fork that came out with my cake was so dirty... it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since its last use. Then my coffee arrived the cup had lipstick on it. I had walked here from my house and no I wasn't wearing bright pink lipstick on my Saturday morning walk. This was extremely off putting and made me not want to drink more of my coffee. When I was about to leave, I thought I would take one last sip of water before I walked home. My dining partner said look at your cup and there was another bright pink lipstick stain!! The staff here need to take more care when washing up, dishwashers don't get lipstick stains off that is why you polish your cutlery and water glasses. This is unacceptable and saddens me to say that I won't be returning here.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! So lucky to have this bakery as our local bakery. Awesome coffee and of course amazing fresh pastries and baked goods. Yum.

Went to this store today lovely location great bread and the best citrus tart I've ever had in my life. The girl behind the counter was also lovely 10/10.

Addicted to bread, getting high on atmosphere. This little bakery coffee shop is some thing else, fantastic bread which has me shuddering at the thought of buying bread from grocery stores ever again. fantastic coffee, lovely staff and the atmosphere, oh the atmosphere . i like nothing better than sitting down in a little coffee shop with a coffee and book and a few hours on my hands. banneton bakery is defiantly the place to do it, with its big glass windows making people watching a must and staff that are happy for you to sit and take your time soaking up the feel of the place.

Where has the owner and the service gone?. Went there for a coffee arrived there at 2.30 advertised closing time 3.00pm . We were the only customers . Told we could only have takeaways . Girls rude and to lazy to serve coffee in proper cup. We took our buisness elsewhere that day and will not be back there. It is a pity because this Bakery/ Cafe used to be very good with good service.

Rowena. Coffee is amazing, the food is delicious and the staff are absolutely top notch. Wouldn't go anywhere else for my breaky.

My sister and her husband are up from Sydney, thought I would take them to one of my local coffee places. Picked the wrong one. Order stuffed up, staff not that friendly. Disappointed. The renovation looks good. The trouble is your not sure what you are going to get. Went there a couple of weeks ago and it was all good. Don't like not knowing how it's going to be. There are plenty of other choices!!!!!'m

The coffee is the best I've ever had! And I think it's Bree? She is the best looking woman I have ever had make me a coffee for sure. ill be back...

The food is good - but with such terrible service, long waits, running out of everything early!!, rude harried staff - just not worth going there. There are other places doing what Bannetons does better, cheaper and smarter - so I won't be back.

Absolutely horrible. Not only was the entire female staff incredibly rude but my toasted bagel was delivered to me after 30 minutes of waiting, two complaints and once every one in my party had already received their meal and eaten it. I had to make mine a take away because it is clearly so hard to toast a bagel in time. The bagel I received after this incredible wait was cold and unsatisfying. Bad. Bad. Bad.

Excellent, but inappropriate!. You do have to understand girls that you are on full view! I suppose a new tattoo that requires one to lift up their shirt to show their colleague is very exciting but not in front of customers! Excellent food, note to owner, when your away from this shop the staff misbehave.

Good Food and Coffee - Bad service. Great food, but the three times I've been there, long wait and it wasn't busy. The last visit the service was short and unfriendly, and the young guy got the coffees wrong, then denied it. For a premium product they need better service. It's not that hard.

Happy happy happy. The best sourdough around, especially the olive & rosemary. Every now and then I'll treat myself to the brandied bread which is absolutely yummy. My family always complains about the half eaten loaf that gets home:)

Good choice. Nicest of the Banneton chains. Almond croissants are always a winner and the french girl is very friendly.

Food is good but the service puts a dampened on the experience. A bit of a welcoming smile wouldn't go astray. To top it all off, my coffee cup was swiped away before I had finished the last mouthful. I don't like going to places where I feel as though I am a nuisance.

Ordered chocolate and caramel tart - couldn't put my fork through it, so hard and unpleasant to eat. Guy serving was grumpy too. Dissapointed.

Breakfast win. Suggest the Stromboli for maximal hangover recovery, however this does not leave room for dessert. Another day!

Pastries, sour dough & pumpkin scones to die for - love!!

Amazing pastries. We ordered 10 different pastries and got a free box of macaroons thrown in. They were delicious and our guests loved them. Too bad about the snobby customers.. not much you can do about that i suppose.
Noni
Totally amazing. Was so excited to try this place as so many raved about it and was so glad it was as good as can be delicious coffee!!! Amazing cakes and such great service! Will be going again

An excellent treat. Banneton Ashgrove has some of the finest baked goods to be found in Brisbane. Knowing the bakery options around the Northern Suburbs, its tough competition, however Banneton is no doubt the best choice for that extra richness and luxury. It can be expensive if you want to try multiple items, but each item is so spot-on and filling that you are guaranteed to have eyes that are bigger than your stomach.

Menu highlights include exellent flavorsome Stromboli for a cold day, delicate tarts and Frangipane and conveniently packaged Macaroons. Sandwiches are fresh and very filling with the coffee being noteworthy. The only downside is that atmosphere can be lacking due to Waterworks traffic and crowded pre- and post- school crowds of parents. Its obviously a popular spot, so definitely worth a try, but take-away is recommended.

Does "being French" mean it is a valid excuse for bad manners....? You decide. Yes, the pastry sold here is exquisite. The coffee 7/10. Ambience 6/10 (if you don't mind being surrounded by gossiping ladies or worse, sweaty ladies straight from the gym. By all means try this bakery if you are desperate for a Pane Chocolate.

Wonderful in every way!. Great pastries. Fresh and well made. I have allergies and the staff new exactly what was in everything i ordered without hesitation. A big plus for me! The coffee was perfect and served promptly upon ordering. I also bought some biscuits that had been packaged and they were divine. Highly recommend!

Brisbane's best sourdough. I have driven all over Brisbane searching for a really good sourdough. Finally my travels were paid off with a huge dividend when I arrived at Banneton Ashgrove, put simply their banneton loaf is the best sourdough in Brisbane. I have to drive half an hour to get there but the banneton makes it worth the hour (there and back). If you are also interested in sublime butter croissants or macaroons you will also be an instant lifelong customer like me. It is a true treat to experience what a true artisan baker can produce.

LOVE IT. Refreshing to find a decent bakery in the suburbs. Amazing traditional organic breads. Despite what some people may say about the prices you certainly get what you pay for- I found out they even make the pastrami for the sandwiches themselves. Everything I have tried has been top quality. Love it!

YAY. Amazing sourdough!

Gout Francais PARFAIT. Le meilleur pain au chocolat que l'on ai trouve. Merci Philippe! Bon 4.5$ on en mange pas 2 chacun.

Great coffee. Love Bannetons, great location fills the void in the area as there is nothing simaler within walking distance. Good service, very busy weekend mornings. Bakery items are probably overpriced.

Had there fresh garlic Turkish bread from the Kelvin grove markets. Hot and delicious. I finished off the entire loaf.

Good Coffee. I am a regular coffee drinker and this little cafe has met my standard of acceptable coffee. Although it is located on waterworks road, and it can be very noisy sitting outside, it is in a very nice spot. However it lacked a menu to order from, however the sweets and breads in the cabinet look amazing, but i think they are a little overpriced. Service was good and I would definately go back for coffee and cake.

Poor - poor food, poor coffee, poor service

The Banneton Bakery has been a favourite of mine for years. I can’t go past their delectable pastries and amazing cakes. A Banneton Bakery breakfast The Bakery is inspired by European traditions, bringing the art of wood-fired bread to the customer. They have three permanent retail stores in Brisbane and run two market stores over the weekend. You can find their stores at: - Ashgrove (Shop 3, 584 Waterworks Road) - New Farm (876 Brunswick Street) - Woolloongabba (25 Balaclava Street) Market stalls operate at Kelvin Grove on a Saturday morning and Boggo Road (Dutton Park) on a Sunday morning. Today I visited the Ashgrove store and picked up a salted caramel brioche, cherry danish and much needed coffee. Banneton Bakery Cherry Danish Banneton Bakery Salted Caramel Brioche
