Absolutely delicious meal enjoyed by my whole family. Very peaceful environment, friendly service and food with endless flavour. We will definitely be going back!
Excellent place. The restaurant seems to be a family affair, an unassuming hole in the wall run by a husband and wife team. What you might give up in service, you get back in spades with delectable dishes served with ample authenticity. We left satiated not only from the food, but from the open and interesting conversations from the owner explaining the origins of each dish we consumed. This is an undiscovered gem. Growing up in NYC, we would look for places like this.. What a find!!
It's really different and tasty exotic foods cooked and served by people who care. Established for a while now they take pride in their cuisine and it shows. Sitting on cushions is unusual but this is an unusual country with hardy people. Unusual and pleasant.
The food was great! My first taste of afghan cuisine and Chopan did not disappoint - would recommend this place to anyone looking to try something new or for something more homemade!
This was the first time we ordered a meal from Chopan and the first time we’d tried the cuisine (on our wedding anniversary). Can you believe it...a take away!! Thank you to the staff and to the chef who were most accommodating and professional. The meal (vegetarian and lamb karahis with bread and basmati rice, with salata) was light and not overpowering with spice even though I am a chilli head (ghost and reaper fresh chilli eater). It was a refreshing meal and one that we will try again. We wish you all the best Chopan and look forward to being back soon.
The food is amazing! I highly recommend the mantoo and the lamb karahi - drool worthy. Family-owned and everyone is absolutely lovely. I can't recommend it more.
Every thing served was fresh. Really tasty and delicious. A bit attention is needed on restaurant table and chairs, dated. Addition of fresh bread in the menu will be great.
Enjoyed our food throughly, great location.
Wonderful food and a relaxed environment for a very reasonable cost. I don't know why we haven't been before. We found the prices very inexpensive. Can't wait to go again.
Amazing. Delicious food, beautiful family owners, BYO and reasonable. Love this place!! Try the mantoo (dumplings) they're SO delicious. Everything hand made from scratch. Couldn't recommend it more.
Great food, cheap prices! Some unusual and very traditional dishes and excellent flavour in all of them. We've been several times and have been impressed every time. Apart from the obvious great dishes (eg all the kebabs and house specialties), the house-made baklava and Afghani green tea are worth a try. But don't go expecting new-age and flashy, this place is homely and traditional.
this is a family owned and operated establishment, and a lovely family at thatmy favourites are the mantoo and mixed grill
i highly recommend you try
I have been past this place a zillion times and tonight I was compelled to go in. My thirst for charcoal chicken and rice was quenched. It was so good! It was a kind of rainy night (and I was hungover) so we ordered takeaway. The chicken kebab and rice with salad was delicious and so flavoursome. They did something to the rice which made it so mmmmm. The chutney was pretty spicy, but good spicy. We also ordered the chicken korma which was delish. I can see why they have been around for so long...happy to be their newest regular :)
Photo of kebab in takeaway container does it no justice
We have take out from this hidden gem about once a fortnight...it's the best charcoal meat we have ever had...and my husband is Afghan! Food is fresh, tasty and homemade. We love the combination kebab, bulani, kabuli and salad...our faves! Worth trying the lamb karahi too. The decor is a little underwhelming but the food makes up for it for sure!
Brilliant flavours - will come again. We went for dinner here based on urban spoon reviews and I have to agree with everyone. The food was brilliant. We had the Bulani to share for an entre (Savoury pastry filled with potato, shallots and spices. Served with yogurt), then shared the Tekka Kebab (oh my gosh the spices were to die for - yum) and the Chicken karahi which was so different, tasty and fun. We will definately come again. I don't know where all the customers were, though, given how good the food was. I am looking forward to going back and trying the Kofta Chalau next time. Would definately recommend.
I didn't just like this place. I LOVED IT!!! Great service. Amazing food! Strange Atmosphere. But well worth the venture through the door!!!!
We had a great dinner at chopan charcoal. Everything was very tasty, will def be back for more.
I saw afghani food featured on food safari a few nights ago on t.v and after watching I was eager to try it out. My search led me to chopan charcoal.. I LOVED IT!! My table ordered bulani, mantoo, lamb korma and karahi. The chef himself came out and had a chat to us. Beautiful little family owned restaurant that serves honest hearty food. Fair priced menu,BYO.
Loved it!!. This place is now officially one of my favourite places to eat! i will definatly be coming back. the staff was so bubbly and nice! i reccomend the bulani, karahi and mantoo. flavours and spices are beautifully balanced. menu prices are affordable and worth the quality. LOVED IT!
Great quality, fresh ingredients, like a party in your mouth and every spice was invited. Moderately priced. Will be adding this find to my favourites list.
Great food, great value!. The four of us really enjoyed our meals - we steered clear of the safe stuff and tested out the unusual stuff on the menu - their main course pastries were excellent. Four very well fed for under $25 a head including dessert.
Authentic food. Service a bit slow, but worth the wait. Well priced menu.
Combination Kebab. The lamb on the bone was delicious.
