Excellent beers and food. Today I had the raspberry & passion fruit sour, and chicken burger. Both delicious and btmetter than most sours / burgers. Highly recommend!

Ive been coming to Given Terrace for years and never knew that this place had a marvellous ciffee shop inside... Silly me. What a nice find. Zac has already made me a great coffee and breakfast is on its way. This is a must check out place. Ans so now ifeel the need for a quiet environment, a good coffee, space, and maybe a snack... This is where i come during the day.

Booked a client breakfast in the Captain's Room and couldn't be happier with the professional/down'to-earth service and great food. Will definitely book again.

Food is really good. The stuffed zucchini flowers were amazing. Unfortunately they had a dog laying on the bar licking the bar so this place gets 0 stars. I can only imagine the food safety in the kitchen. This place should probably be shut down. Seems ridiculous that I'd have to worry about my animal hair allergy at a restaurant. But here we are.

Nice and cozy.. for beer, wine, or whiskey, also a good selection of food. Since it’s all about the vibes, this place is always a great choice 😉😌

Great customer service, both by bartenders, cleaners and front staff. Old English aesthetic with a good dose of wood and a warm feel. Good selection of drinks too.

Really fancy bar, loved the vibe, but if you're thirsty, I suggest you go somewhere else. Was initially ingnored and the guy asked me as many questions as you can ask about a gin and tonic. I just want a drink.

Been here a few times with my partner and popped in for our anniversary, great food, friendly service and cute little spot.

A cool little bar with a nice UK vibe about it, we dined on the weekend for lunch. I chose the haloumi and mushroom burger but was a little disappointed they did not have a gluten-free bun option. I decided not to eat the bun so in the end, it was not very hearty. The mushroom was tasty and the haloumi well cooked, however the only other accompaniment was lettuce and jalapeno mayo. It was just ok, I have definitely had better burgers and while there was not anything bad about it, it was nothing special. My husband chose the Hope and Anchor burger which he really enjoyed. The fresh pineapple was grilled and really tasty, a nice addition to the burger. The chips were lovely and crisp and drink specials were also great. Service was friendly and efficient and we really appreciated being given a chalkboard and chalk for our three year old to play with.

A nice spot, food just ok, drinks and service great.

The food here is fantastic! This little gem is a local hot spot for those in Paddington with great value specials each week. Sit inside at a rustic table or outside in the courtyard.

The best thing about the Hope & Anchor pub was the beef cheeks with asparagus and mash. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was well complemented with crunchy, fresh asparagus and creamy mash, and smothered in a rich, hearty gravy. The brussel sprouts with bacon slices was tasty enough but the portobello mushrooms were a tad oily.

As it was a hot steamy night in mid-summer, we sat outside on rather uncomfortable wooden benches, a bit too near the road for my liking. But that seemed preferable to sitting inside, which was a tad gloomy and cramped, and also had hard seating that was equally uncomfortable.

Not the kind of place you’d want to linger too long, so fortunately, service was quick and efficient, except for the beef cheeks, which were apparently overlooked, and only came out after everyone else had finished their meals. But as I told the apologetic bartender, it was worth the wait.

No-one comes to take your order here (it took us awhile of twiddling our thumbs, before we figured that out, thanks to a hint from fellow patrons), you just go up to the bar counter and give your order to the bartender, who also happens to be the order taker, cashier and general factotum it would seem. But to his credit, and despite juggling multiple roles on a fairly busy night, he was a pretty friendly and polite guy.

The toilets are upstairs. They were reasonably clean and well provisioned and there are separate male and female ones with sufficient cubicles to ensure no waiting.

Menu was a hit tricky to read with a small font and dim lighting. Acoustics were fair, and, sitting outside, there was not much noise from the other diners. But the road noise and some hoons skateboarding down Given Terrace was a bit of a distraction.

With a small tip and after allowing for our $20 Dimmi discount voucher (it took awhile to explain that to the bartender, but luckily I had the paperwork to prove it), we paid $110 for four of us and that included a couple of refreshing pale ales, four mains and two sides of brussel sprouts. That’s reasonable value in these desperate economic times, where a humble cup of coffee sets you back $4, but overall, the lack of comfort and patchy service wouldn’t see me rushing back next time I’m in Brisbane.

Wow, Zomato has a lot to answer for! 1 review below 4 and this place has a 3.0 rating...?! Hey tonnes of places with a “sponsored” stamp rating up close to the 4’s?

Annnnyway, assuming this rating stays put (screenshot’d to prove a point) Hope and Anchor is a solid little pub. It’s got beer, it’s got spirits, it’s even got cocktails if you want - and it’s got pub food without being a fringe sess-pit (turns out I don’t know how to spell that term I use so frequently) like the Paddo down the road.

Staff could be a little more happy to see you, but you know... millennial and all that.

Paddington, nay, Brisbane! Needs more neighbourhood pubs (and less self-proclaimed critics) like Hope and Anchor.

Brisbane needs more pubs like this one!! Finally an English-esque pub serving up great nibbles and drinks! I came here for a couple of drinks with some friends and loved it so much that we had to try the nibbles. We only ordered a small share platter which featured grissini, cured ham and some of the most juicy and delicious olives I have ever come across! Despite being simple, all the ingredients complemented each other perfectly and for $12, was just the snack we needed before dinner! For those of you that love the English tradition of crisps with your pint, packets of monster much and Lays potato chips are also available at the bar!! How cool!! Outdoor beer garden is great and well lit with dim warm lighting. Can’t wait to come back and try this place for dinner! Rebecca Stephanie Hamish

I think it has taken a little while for this pub to hit it's stride, and to anyone considering going I would suggest ignoring some of the earlier negatives.

True, the selection of beer is not huge, but what they do serve is good quality, and thank god they have included pint sized glasses (take note, every drinking venue in Rosalie!)

Yesterday we finally took the plunge at the burgers. I had the cheese, and my wife had the chicken. They were pretty awesome to the point I would say could even edge in front of a number of other burger offers in the area.

H & A is a great addition to the area. Sorry that we left only noticing a guitarist setting up. Great call!

Friday arvo drinks... Vodka, lime and soda in the tiniest glass... I thought it was a Vegemite jar. Not a great selection of beers... Even worse selection of snacks (prawn cocktails chips only?) Disappointing.

Delicious food with a nice simple British decor and atmosphere. Well priced food for what you get with a nice selection of food. A nice gastro pub!

Went here Friday afternoon after work. Didn't know what to expect but this place is great. Great selection of beers, wine and food. I chose the gnocchi but for $25 the serving was pretty small. My wife had the ocean trout which looked a bit of a better size. The arancini balls were superb. This place is worth a go.
