Best Indian (South Indian) food in town. Authentic Indian is what you get here. These guys have done a good job in bringing the most authentic Indian flavours rather than the Westernised Indian cuisine. Must try is their Biryani and Fish pollichathu.
Went here for dinner on a Sunday. The ambiance was very welcoming as it’s a huge open area with all tables and seating spaced apart so that you can thoroughly enjoy your time with your family and friends with some sort of privacy. The servers are very friendly and we were shown to our seats and the order taken quite quickly. We ordered the Chicken65, Beef roast with paratha and three chapathis. The chicken and the beef and paratha came very quickly. The chapathi took a bit too long though. The Chicken dish was big for an appetiser and didn’t’ come with any pappadum or small pieces of roti/bread. The pieces were small so it had absorbed the flavours very well including the spiciness. The beef roast too was very flavoursome and too big for a single person. The parata was a little too oily though and so was the chapathi and it felt a bit like it was reheated. However all in all its homely food that is hard to find in Brisbane, and a good place for all to try with the only real issue being that when using the toilet you had to get a key and climb upstairs in the next building which makes washing your hands harder.
This restaurant is a gem. The service is friendly and efficient. The drinks are great. Spiced house ale on tap is delicious, and the authentic masala chai is made fresh to order and absolutely devine... no tacky syrup or powdered “chai” here! It’s the real deal. The southern Indian section of the menu is our favourite and rare in Brisbane. We ordered a chicken curry which was a mistake because it was not the best cuts of chicken and mostly bone but we took responsibility for that as southern Indian food is predominately vegetarian and we should have known better. We will be back !
This place is quirky and the staff are wonderful. Their menu features cuisine from all around India, and every dish tastes authentic and made with love. Best Dosa around!
Had dinner with friend here. Booking is straightforward. We have been greeted and seated promptly. The starter chicken Tikka and both curries are very tasty. The garlic naang was the best. Service was good and attentive as well.
We were even offered a takeaway container for free. Being a fan of Indian food, I will recommend this place!

Tasty South Indian dishes from Kerala is the specialty brought to Brissy CBD area by Dum n Rum. A must try for the food lovers.
Food always tasted very fresh and packed with flavours. Also have a wide variety of Indian dishes that you wouldnt find at the usual Indian diners. Also the place is at a great location with ample under ground or street parking. Great ambience and great food.
Lovely food and might just be my ew favourite Indian restaurant in Brisbane. I loved the chicken tika masala which had wonderful bits of capsicum throughout. The portions are very generous and all curries come with complimentary basmati rice. Service is attentive though it’s obvious that they’re still getting their bearings right. I will be back!
Our second visit in the last few weeks and we loved it just as much each time! Food and service here are excellent! South India menu is our favorite!
4 of us went to Dum N Rum Today. We ordered the Beef Dry Fry to start and it was to die for! The goat curry was so tender it melted in your mouth and the serving was huge. Our second time ordering this because it is so delicious. We also ordered the Puttu, Beef Roast Curry, and Porotta and all 4 of us filled up with left overs to take home after. This is the best indian cuisine on Brunswick Street and puts all other nearby restaurants that have been there for decades to shame!
My Sri Lankan in-laws thought that it was very authentic for south Indian food and are very glad to have such good food close enough of us to visit again and again. I definitely recommend everyone who loves curry to give this place a try!
Parking under the building so very convenient even where parking normally is next to impossible. Enter right next to UrbanCellar and park for free!
Very authentic Indian food and the staff were very attentive and nice. Particularly their beef fry and porotta was very authentic and transported me back to kerala. 10/10 would come back again :)
Best Indian food in Brisbane. Just finished having dinner here and wow! Just wow! I have been trying to find a good Indian restaurant for 6 years with my husband and now we have found it. We had the chicken 63 ( a little bit of a hit- but it was a nice kind of chilli hit like a sunburn from a cruise ship kind) and then we had the onion and spinach baaja which was my favourite- crispy and sweet... for mains we have a serving of naan bread each - garlic and spinach and cheese and my husband had the butter chicken and I had the beef madras. Usually I love the butter chicken but the waiter suggested the beef madras was the best choice. He was 100 correct! I ate the whole ceramic pot bowl because Jesus that baby was good... I can only say yes you are new, need a little bit of work on the styling of the place but the food is exceptional and very well priced. We will be back for sure
Delicious food with a wide selection available! Extremely attentive and accommodating staff. A must go for those who enjoy Indian cuisine. 11/11/2018
New favourite Indian place that specialize in Kerala cuisine. I strongly sugguest you try their Kerala dishes because you wont find them anywhere else and they are simply amazing. We had the mutton dum Biryani, goat curry and the famous beef roast (least gravy like how they eat it) with parotta. Everything was really good!!! Definitely back soon
The food was amazing with exceptional flavor. There is a blend of North Indian and South Indian cuisines which is a Wow factor. The presentation was really good. Keep up the work team. We had a really good night and will definitely come back.
I visit Dum n Rum frequently and had experienced amazing Indian food. I got a chance to enjoy the food when I missed the taste of my native. The customer service was excellent and the waitstaffs were attentive. It was very clean and had a relaxing ambiance.
This place sure has its pros n cons, but am giving it a 4 star because its one of its kind in Brisbane. It is known for its Kerala cuisine, and appeals to the South Indian crowds, but honestly if you asked me, i would remove the North Indian dishes and bring in more South Indian delicacies from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra as Brisbane needs that.
Fantastic ambience, Menu and taste.
I wasnt a fan of the chicken, duck and goat that had the bone in.. bcos it wasnt satisfying, barely any meat on the bones. One cant eat the bones no matter how tasty the dish is so please increase the portion size there.
You are missing out if you are not eating here. The best, authentic Kerala (South Indian) food.
Over the past couple of months we’ve been eating here very regularly and have been loving everything we’ve tried. 😀 Lots of parking, enough seats (bookings recommended), very friendly staff and clean.
And don’t miss the deals (look out for them in Instagram or Facebook). They are even more amazing 🤩
On my way back from Noosa heads.. headed to this place. Getting authentic Malyali and Chettinadu food with soft appams and Kerala parota. Taste the Indian single malts for a change. This is the best Chettinad style food in whole of Southern Hemisphere. Totally recommended.
Dum n Rum serves the best Keralite food in Brisbane. Kerala is a state in the Southern part of India. Most Indian restaurants in Brisbane tend to serve North Indian food leaving a void for food from other regions in India. Dum n Rum does an amazing job in delivering authentic dishes from Kerela. I would highly recommend ordering from their specialities section of the menu when dining at Dum n Rum.
Dum n Rum have recently introduced Toddy to Brisbane. Toddy is sort of like a palm wine made from the sap of coconut and other palms. It is an alcoholic beverage which tastes slightly tangy and sweet. It pairs amazingly well with spicy food! This is something that is really hard to find in Australia, and you should definitely try it if you get a chance.
Having dined here on numerous occasions, we have had the opportunity to try many dishes from the menu. I have genuinely loved everything. The biryani, kappa biryani, beef fry, fish curry and kizhi paratha are exceptional. I love the fish pollichathu (whole wrapped in banana leaf and baked), but one should only try this if they are comfortable dealing with fish bones. For dessert, make sure to try the ada pradaman.
I have found the customer service to be exceptional here. The menu provides detailed explanations of the dishes, and the staff are more than willing to explain further and answer any questions you may have. You should definitely make a reservation before you visit as they can get very busy, specially on the weekends.
Good Asian Restaurant. Bit different then other Indian food points. Here there are versatile varieties of South Indian (spl kerala) and Sri Lankan cuisines. Plus Ok range of Indian, Shri Lankan, and other south east asian alcoholic beverages.
Food taste wise is ok, as you will like it. Owner has really picked a good cfief. But staff need to be more perfect in their work. For example, we had order food and drink in order. Food was served on time, but drink was missed. We waited for few minutes. So finally went near counter to inquired about drink. Then drink was served. That's wrong.
Sitting arrangements should be reviewed again by the owner as it look like only fit person can sit comfortably on corner side tables.
But all this doesn't matter, after you have ur meal. As taste is good. I strongly recommend this food point.
